(specifically the onryo borne from the murdered Yoshi Hamato and Tang Shen [because oroku saki a bitch])
[ redacted ] and Tang Shen’s ghost gained control and guided Splinter to raise the boys in love and not [ redacted ] to [ redacted ] in [ redacted ]
Splinter was just a regular little rat... who on his 1000th birthday witnessed the death of his friend/unwitting master and his wife, and thus transformed into a wrathful kyūso (minus the kitten eating) and chased Shredder until losing his trail in New York
Shredder’s fuck around and Splinter’s rampaging as the find out caused the tengu to repo some of the mysticism from ninjutsu
now all the (remaining) ninja clans debuffed and mad about it
The tengu bestowed the ninja the ability to summon shit (kuchiyose), enact mystical effects upon people and objects (kuji kiri), going invisible, minor flight (actually just qinggong/light body technique), and manipulation of the 5 elements, and creating doubles (bunshin)
but again, Shredder fucked up so now ninja can like barely control anything bigger than a lit torch or a 16 oz bottle of liquid and that’s if you got in enough hours to do even that
I mentioned elsewhere but for me in any AU I make, Venus is a cultivator and the more I think about it the more I will die on this hill, not only does it fit better than her being a “shaman” or “shinobi” it’s sick as fuck
Jennika’s origin was pretty fkkn metal, she still falls in with the Foot, gets shanked, Leo gives blood-- bam, turtle time
Jennika goes to hang with Venus in China and get a better understanding of her new turtle body

Donnie begins accepting Venus when she uses a massive amount of chi to manipulate gravity just before he becomes street pizza when Vam-Mi throws him off a bridge

splinter, the boys, and venus (and others) mutating from mutagen laced toxic waste was a pure accident
Splinter was investigating a lead on Shredder’s movements concerning the Foot the same night an animal liberation sleeper cell ‘freed’ some animals from the back of a pet store (that was a front for black market domestic and exotic animal trafficking) that is also the same night a stolen truck driven by some corporate spies filled with a competitor’s chemical waste, which then collides with said liberation sleeper cell’s truck and... ooze happens
Leatherhead, the Mutanimals, Mondo, Mona Lisa, Slash also get mutated from the events of that night, either leading up to or following the aftermath
plus some others etc etc
Venus still washes down the gutter, gets rube goldberg pinballed onto a crate of plums where Chung I finds her and still gets named Mei and taken to live in China and eventually learns to cultivate
Tokka and Rahzar get made, and unmade ala TMNT II; the mutagen made them a little silly tho, April adopts Rahzar and passes him off as a low content wolfdog, Leatherhead takes in Tokka
April went through a couple of major changes so now she’s a journalist with a computer programming background who now does a podcast as an informal neighborhood news reporter with a segment for chatting with people from around the street
Mikey’s the most frequent guest and co-hosts sometimes; Donnie troubleshoots free of charge
Venus brings her province’s regional delicacies when she comes to visit, Splinter and Leo both get pu er tea cakes (she managed to get one the same age as him; Splinter is too old so she got the oldest she could find, Leo has so many tea pets and a nice yixing collection); Raph, Keno, and Casey fight over the pickles, meat jerkies, and chili oil; Mikey has an artillery of cool shirts and a lifetime supply of haw flakes, Donnie has a mountain of doodads with increasingly specific uses, April gets neat accessories and the occasional care package sent with Venus from her grandparents, uncles, and aunties; Irma gets neat frames and coats that never fail to get a “Where did you get that??”
Raph rides a Kawasaki Ninja because it’s funny
A lot of bodegas give Mikey free snacks because the bodega cats love him, and he’s also saved some from being run over or ripped apart by stray dogs or the few large angry raccoons
Donnie’s the only one of his brothers to wear both a top and bottom with shoes because once he figured out how to integrate a motherboard and miscellany wiring onto clothing... he’s been a walking computing menace ever since
Splinter does his best to enjoy his time with his sons (because as a kyūso, he knows the chances of outliving his precious sons is very high (ᴗ‿ᴗ✿)  ...give or take one of the many opponents and obstacles his sons take on takes him out first ( ◕ᴗ◕✿ ) )

If I see another fic about one of the 2012 turtles "finally knowing what a real family is" in a rise!crossover, I'm gonna lose my goddamn mind
I feel ya Anon I truly do. It's honestly getting quite ridiculous.
To be honest with you, seeing this stuff happening to the 12 series lowkey breaks my heart. Like this is the show that I as well as so many others have grown up with and to see fanfics put these beloved characters in such uncharacteristic and horrible lighting is a quite upsetting to be blunt. Like I usually don't get involved with this kind of stuff, I'd rather just stay in my corner and just vibe but this is something I've just gotta get off of my chest. As a Rise fan myself, it's disheartening to see some fellow fans turn a blind eye to the faults that Rottmnt has and instead tries to make it seem like it's the best show out there. Like don't get me wrong the show's amazing, but it just like every Tmnt series, has it's flaws and weaknesses. Seeing the 12 series getting torn apart in this way and being treated in such a disrespectful manner reminds me way too much of the episode/movie from the 03 series that had the crossover with the "supposed" 87 series. Much like the fanfics going on now, the episode put 87 in a very bad light. It made the series look awful and basically tore it down and because of it, a lot of newer fans like myself at the time, didn't touch the 87 series at all. Not to mention that there was fans who tore it down and made it seem like the show itself was a waste of time.
Just like now, it's happening all over again. Only it's now the 12 series that's being torn down. It's honestly just upsetting to see something that you love and cherish be tarnished and ridiculed by people who've never even seen the show. Like I understand that people love Rise and they want to encourage others to check out the series so it can get recognition. But doing things such as putting down other variants of the franchise just to lift Rise up isn't the way to go. Especially when it's because of shows like the 12 series that helped paved the way for Rise to get to where it is now.
I love both shows, just like I love the others as well. And as a fan of these beloved series, all I ask is that there's some respect shown for both shows. Cuz this trend that's happening just isn't it fam. Like I get it, writing different characters can be hard and getting them completely in character can be challenging. As someone who's got their own crossover fic going, I understand completely how difficult it can be. So I try to be not too harsh with these things, but lately........it's become increasingly difficult not to.

Stop Babying Mikey 2k23
This is partially a follow on from my post about how 12 Mikey isn't abused by his brothers, but I want to focus in on how much people across the tmnt fandom (I've seen fics in nearly every verse that do this), completely and utterly baby Mikey, and how it doesn't make sense.
For a start, in every verse but Rise (and possibly 87), it is implied or outright stated that the boys are all the same age. Especially 12 which starts on their joint 15th birthday. I feel like a lot of fans who get into the franchise via Rise decide that they can't all be the same age, and therefore decide to make Donnie and Raph a year younger than Leo, and then Mikey a year younger than that, or an even more weird age gap.
I see this a lot in human aus especially, as if people seem to forget that quadruplets are a very real thing.
It seems to me that people just want an excuse to baby Mikey, and so they decide to make him even younger, even when this directly contradicts canon.
Even in Rise, Mikey is only 1 year younger than the twins.
So why do people treat him like he's far younger than the others? It's especially irking in the Rise fandom when there is a whole episode dedicated to Mikey being fed up of being babied by his siblings (mostly Raph), though a few of the other Mikey's also get annoyed when treated as a baby.
Sure, for the most part, Mikey's are far more childish than their siblings, and tend to act far less responsibly.
But they aren't innocent, precious, angels who radiate positive energy, know nothing of the world or, horror of horrors, about sex, who can do no wrong.
They can be naive about a lot of things, and their brothers definitely try to protect them from the worst of aspects of their lives when possible, but some people take this to the absolute extreme in the most ridiculous ways.
I've seen so many fics about 12 in which Mikey knows nothing about sex, despite the fact that he canonically makes a sex joke (not that kind of sub) within the show. He's also a teenage boy, and despite their social isolation for most of their lives, they have access to enough books, shows, comics, and the Internet in some series, that it is incredibly unrealistic that they wouldnt have even the vaguest ideas around sex.
Or when fics have all the brother swearing, but they won't let Mikey say any bad words, ever.
There is also a pervading idea that 'Mikey gets punished all the time by his brothers for no reason, how could they be so cruel, he's only trying to help', despite the fact that Mikey spends so much of the shows (mainly 12 and 03) deliberately ignoring any boundaries his siblings set in place.
In 12, he constantly antagonises or stresses out both Raph and Donnie (he even riles up April's dad during the Krang invasion, and pokes fun at numerous other characters), and yet they are the ones seen as bad guys for when they inevitably lash out at him.
He also openly plays around with chemicals that are rare and/or expensive, not to mention dangerous, during times of crisis, and yet Donnie is seen as the bad guy for yelling at him or not wanting him in his lab. Purely for his own entertainment, Mikey risks the lives of himself, his brothers, his friends, and everyone that Donnie is trying to save via retromuatgen, multiple times. This also shows an incredible level of disrespect to all of the work that Donnie puts into his experiments and machines.
And don't even get me started on the 12 Croaking episode. Oh sure, Mikey completely destroys the place multiple times, even though it doesnt belong to him, and then decides to run away rather than helping to clean up his mistake purely because he actually got called out for his actions, but then somehow everyone else is in the wrong for being frustrated with him?
I think part of this mentality in the fandom is because, like I said in my previous post, Mikey is hardly ever punished by the narrative. In 12, his mistakes get him a cool new pet, he is somehow able to cure Donnie in Creeping Doom by basically pure luck and is then praised for this (as if it wanst his fault in the first place that Donnie almost permanently lost his mind!!), and then later on when he plays with mutagen during the invasion, he somehow manages to stabilise it, and Donnie gets told off by Splinter for being mad at him messing around with the dangerous solution that he has been working hard over and neglecting his health to complete for months.
Even in 03 Mikey is rarely punished by the narrative, and he also pesters Raph just as mich as 12 Mikey does.
In an ep in Fast Forward, even though he tries to cut in line for a new game, and is only interested in stopping a bunch of dangerous thieves so that he can get a copy, (behaviour which, in a kid's cartoon especially, should not be rewarded), he is still given a copy of the game at the end of the episode.
And then, one of the instances that really ticks me off, is when Raph gets powers via the superhero Cape in in that Back to the Sewers ep. Mikey spends the entire episode throwing a tantrum, to the point where he almost gets both himself and Raph killed, almost let's the bad guy win because he is too busy trying to physically wrestle the Cape away from his brother whilst they are being actively attacked by a dangerous enemy, almost lets said enemy get his hands on the cape and its powers, and then damages the Cape by trying to snatch it from Raph, only for him be allowed to use the Cape later on, giving him the chance to experience superpowers like he dreamed of.
Surely it would have been much more narratiely satisfying for Mikey to have taken a step back at some point in the episode and realised that Raph deserved to be a superhero using the cape's powers, and then maybe have him step in to support Raph, proving that he could still be a hero, even without powers? If they had handled it that way, it would have been far less annoying if Mikey was allowed to use the Cape at the end of the episode as a reward for doing the right thing. Instead, he spends and entire episode whining and pouting like an entitled brat, before almost getting himself and Raph (who had been using the Cape's powers to help save people), and then is still rewarded by getting a chance to use the powers anyway??
It's endlessly frustrating when other characters within these shows receive far more severe narrative consequences for either similar, or far less selfish actions than Mikey's.
I think this happens slightly less in Rise, but the fandom baby Mikey even harder. I genuinely don't think people grasp how small the age difference is between the twins and Mikey. I see comics of the twins walking around and talking in full sentences and looking to be around 5 years of age, but Mikey is a tiny baby swaddled up, unable to do anything at all. The age gap is not that large, he is not that far behind them developmentally.
My sister is just about 2 years older than me, and for most of our childhood people who didn't know us would mistake us for twins. There is no way that Mikey (again, only a year younger than the twins), would be so far behind the twins developmentally.
By the time they're toddling, he should at the very least be crawling.
To conclude yet another TMNT rant, I am just so sick of people completely and utterly infantilising the Mikeys. I see story upon story of Mikey being oh so sweet and innocent, unable to cope with seeing his siblings hurt in anyway (I have legit seen stories in which on of his brothers is severely hurt either physically or emotionally, and yet far more attention is given to Mikey who will be having an absolute breakdown, leaving the injured party to pretty much bleed out in the background whilst Mikey is coddled), or who could never say a bad word about anyone (even though he insults or winds his brothers up on the daily), acting as a therapist for the team (he does do this to some degree, particularly in Rise, but he is also just as likely to capitalise on someone's fears as he is to do anything about them).
It's also really annoying to have people act as if the Mikeys are far younger than their siblings when they are the same age, except for Rise, but even then the age gap is basically negligible.
He isn't a poor little uwu bean that gets unfairly picked on by his brothers. He's a little menace that is hardly ever punished for his actions.

I know it's easy to compare 2012 TMNT to Prime but from what you've said, they're an interesting study in contrasts because I can see a lot of the same "too much of a fan of the source material" problems in them plus yunno, treatment of women, but at the very least, 2012 does do interesting things with regards to combining ideas that were 1987 original and things that were done in 2003's more Mirage-faithful style. I like Slash as a silent solo hero turned leader of the Mutanimals more than his dumb brute style in the OG show. I think the Splinter/Shredder backstory does a good job of taking the tragedy of the 03 version and making it more personal to Splinter by having him be alive. Bebop and Rocksteady are a little more fun when they have different styles of being dumb mistake-makers. Of course, this doesn't overwrite how bad April is treated or any of the other flaws, but at least it's taking things that existed and trying new spins on them.
Plus the visual style's more compelling with the anime-isms and not being indebted to Bay's visual style because his movies came after the show started, not before, and the only real things they take are the elevator joke and that one bit where Mikey goes "I really did meet Megan Fox on that rooftop, yo!" which are tiny enough that they're almost cute.
Godddd yeah the way I’m glad the show came out before the movies for that. Could you imagine if they tried to make the turtles look similar to the movies ones? Nightmare fuel.
12 is interesting cuz I’ve had so many thoughts for so long that I would need to separate from each other to be specific, cuz half of me is like “yes it’s a love letter to 87 and 03, a beautiful marriage of two ideas and playing homage to things” but then the other half remembers the showrunner didnt care for any of that legacy characters at all and you can tell when you think of stuff like. idk IRMA.
but while the april thing is bad like ive said before, it doesnt make the show as a whole bad. things can have flaws and still be good its never a case of thing good or thing bad to me.
but yeah watching prime and comparing it to that its like. no 2012 is a cartoon that isnt afraid of being a cartoon its not trying to be a movie. i have some more appreciation for that as a concept, cuz i didnt think id have to be worried about that before lmao

About the ship tags poll... Ah, sorry for not specifying ^^; I did post that the poll was about Yuichi x Rise!Leo specifically.

I actually want to do a separate one for Leosagi, but this one was specifially just for Leoichi/Leochi! (or, me using mostly my own made-up tag, YuiNardo)
TL;DR - Leosagi and Leoichi/Yuinardo are separate ships :D technically we don't have this problem with other fandoms with newer versions of characters, or even with other ships like Donsagi, but since Yuichi Usagi is a separate character from his ancestor, Miyamoto Usagi, it would make sense to have separate ship tags as well. Especially since the tags already exist anyway, so why not use them per ship? It is also more respectful to both older and newer Leosagi fans and fans of both Usagi characters. I am all of these myself, so hah, this is all silly fanstuff, but I'd just prefer the separation bc the ships are too different to share a tag + it's easier to sort and find fanart/fic later if there are separate tags. So Leosagi poll will go up later!
Longer explain: there was discussion around it a year or more ago, + posts here and there on tumblr mostly, about how technically Yuichi Usagi x Leo is a whole new ship bc Yuichi Usagi is a whole new character from the Samurai Rabbit show... and how maybe it's good to use just the one tag for it? So the oldest unique name/tag for them seems to be Leochi/Leoichi. Since Miyamoto Usagi x Leonardo is an older ship that's been around for 19 years since the '03 turtles show and Leosagi has been the tag/ship name that stuck with that, it's a separate ship. So are the tags associated with it, such as Katanashipping and older tags (which I haven't seen people use anymore.) But people saw the similiarities of the two Usagi's (family after all, lol, but I wonder if there's something else simmering under there), and started tagging the newer ship as Leosagi too, almost as an umbrella term, since we'd briefly had 12!Leosagi as a ship, and people just like the dynamic that the 03 show introduced, but people liked the new TMNT cartoon too.
ROTTMNT didn't have any Usagi eps tho, so - some Rise fans had started making their own Rise versions of Miyamoto Usagi as well, well before the Samurai Rabbit show. And this new ship clashed with that a bit, because people were either taking the character of Usagi from the show and just giving him book/2003 Usagi's personality (so continuing what Rise!Leosagi shippers were already doing, but confusing the pool of thoughts there bc it's a new character w a new name). So the fans who use tumblr and draw/write for the ship got upset that this new ship was taking over the tags and clogging the tags with just Yuichi x Leo content. There’s also the distinction that og Leosagi in 2004 is a ship where they’ve interacted in canon - Usagi exists next to the TMNT in the cartoon, and I consider 03 Usagi a whole separate version of him because they seemed to have changed his backstory a bit + made him younger to match the turtles. There’s also history of the characters interacting in the comics, because their creators Peter Laird and Stan Sakai were friends and Leo is Stan Sakai’s favourite character of the TMNT. Yuichi x Leo is a crossover ship however. so the new ship was a surprise.
Perhaps at first, it was kinda fun to see new art or fic, but then I guess people started getting annoyed for how many fans were using multiple tags and including Leosagi in their posts too, even when Miyamoto Usagi is not there.  A lot of people treated the two ships as the same or made the name an umbrella  tag, which I sorta did too at first bc what, it’s not like there’s guidelines pinned to the start of a tag page on tumblr, are there? So imo, it’ll just sort itself out eventually the more people start using the unique tags exclusively vs the old tag. Sliderbunny was the Miyamoto Usagi x Rise!Leo tag for a while, but that's also become mainly used for the newer ship. I’m not sure if tumblr shows the contents of tags from over a year ago anymore, but there are most likely blogs still active which jave those older posts with tagging prior to Samurai Rabbit coming out on Netflix.
I'm more annoyed personally that people also mis-tag the characters and the book/show. They are not interchangeable! So yeah, it's been a whole many-posts-long discussion over this ^^;;
I also made longer posts thinking abt these myself but I'm not gonna link them here cuz these are just general polls of curiosity. But you can find them under "ship tags" tag on my blog if you get curious. RABNerd28 on youtube made a very succinct (imo) video about this topic as well, which summarizes many of the issues the older shippers find when going online to see content for their favourite ship.
I actually have no idea where Leoichi or Leochi came from as ship tags or why there are two spellings of it (almost like "two pronunciations" lol), but so far, it's a pretty popular tag. So there seems to be no need to double-tag it with Leosagi, when it's 2 different ships. I find it also that whatever the fan content for 2003 Leosagi or just Leosagi is in general, it would be nice to just respect fans who made the ship popular at first, when TMNT03 aired their Usagi eps in 2004. I actually shipped this too back in the day and still do, so for me personally, it's nice to have separate tags just so I can find things better on my blog + so if people who don't like one ship, they can always block the tag and not see those posts from me. Or just general consideration ^^ I think we don't have this discussion around the other usagi ship tags bc well, there are a lot less posts about these other ships both on tumblr and elsewhere, maybe the fans don't have the energy to argue about this?
Another result of earlier discussions and the general tag-clogging, lots of people also dislike the show and the character of Yuichi Usagi. I as a fan of both show and comic, really don't like that, so that's one more reason why using separate tags is better - so at the least: Leosagi and Leoichi separately.
i still prefer my own made-up tag bc it's more unique + sounds fun. also reasons why I made my own unique ship tag: fans make Yuichi really OOC in their art/fic, or they haven't seen the show or the flat-out hate the show.... which is all fine, ordinary stuff even, as far as bigger fandoms and fanworks go. folks make Rise Leo OOC often too, but no one bats an eye. But hey, it's just other fans having fun with concepts and ideas. That's what fanworks are. Transformative fiction. People can change anything they want. But I personally like the show and character, and I like the Usagi Yojimbo books too. So reading/watching and making theories and in-character or just plain meme/funny stuff is how I have fun.
whatever the reasons for the tag names, for this poll I just piled all the reasonable ship tags I could find for it (i.e. used in at least 2 posts) just to see what people use the most. seems that Leoichi is winning so far, which makes sense as it is easier to pronounce.

TMNT PIA: Character introduction - Michelangelo

Here’s an overall rundown on the goodest boy.
Michelangelo is a red eared slider, he’s 17 years old, 5’9” and goes by he/they pronouns, aromantic, pansexual. He’s also the oldest of the four turtles. Like with every version of Michelangelo, he likes to goof around and have a good time usually by annoying the living daylights out of his younger brothers, but this time it’s also paired up with a protective, responsible oldest sibling trait that is typically seen with Leo, leading to him being the annoying older brother who loves to tease and have a laugh at his younger siblings, but he does know when to quit. Like with most iterations, Mikey is a big fan of comic books, TV and of course, pizza.
I would actually say that this version of Mikey is sort of a combination of multiple different takes on the character, the main ones being 03, the 07 movie, Mutant Mayhem and Batman vs. TMNT, but he also has a lot of elements typically seen with Leo, especially 2012 and even Mutant Mayhem in how he’s the oldest brother and desperately wants to keep his family safe. It is worth noting however that although Michelangelo is the oldest sibling, he isn’t the leader.

And a few extra facts:
In this iteration the turtles are able to fight pretty with much any weapon. They do still primarily fight with their usual weapons, but they can also fight with others, including each other’s. Mikey prefers to fight weapons that can incapacitate rather than kill or do serious harm. Because of this, he typically prefers to use nunchucks, kusari-fundo and tonfa. He can use a katana or other weapons, but only in emergency situations. He doesn’t like the idea of taking a life. This is mainly due to the fact that he is the oldest of his brothers and has a natural protective instinct that does not allow him to harm others (Unless they already caused harm to his family)
Splinter originally wanted for Mikey to be the next leader of the Hamato Clan, mainly because of his ability to be responsible and always keeping an eye on his younger brothers, but Mikey declined the offer, mainly because he didn’t want that level of responsibility and also because he’s not as focused on ninjutsu as he would have to be in order to be the next leader, in his exact words ‘I don’t take ninjutsu as seriously as say… Leo’. This then lead to Splinter presuming Mikey thinks Leo should be leader instead and after thinking about for a few days realised his eldest son had a point. (More about this on Leo’s post)
Like with most iterations, Mike is a big fan of comics, tv and of course, pizza. Mikey is the best cook of the family and eventually took over the responsibility of making meals for the family.
He has a scar over his eye which was actually caused by Leo when they were younger (Mikey being about 12 at the time). About a month after Leo was allowed to begin using actual swords instead of fake wooden ones, Mikey suggested they do try them out, but Leo ended up accidentally slashing Mikey’s eye. Mikey was more concerned with calming Leo down and reassuring him that he was okay (Even though at the time it was the most severe injury he’d ever gotten) while also trying to make sure Leo didn’t get into too much trouble with Splinter and telling Raph to make sure Donnie didn’t see the blood. After the injury was treated, Mikey had tried to comfort his younger brother, asking if he thought it would create a cool scar, but this only caused Leo to start crying. Years later, Mikey thinks his scar makes him look more badass, and Leo cringes whenever he brings it up.
He’s a really convincing liar, unless he’s talking to his family, since his conscience makes him really uncomfortable if he tries. He usually only lies to enemies.
He has a calico cat named Klunk. Mikey found her as a kitten in the sewers, cold, wet and hungry and took her back home with him. Shes been living with them for over a year now. She’s his baby! He loves her almost more than his brothers.
While he’s not the best of the siblings when it comes to stealth, Mikey is the best at stealing things, especially without the person noticing. When they were children they used to play a game called ‘Mask Tag’, the way the game worked was all the brothers would play tag, and whoever was ‘it’ had to steal their masks, if he manages to catch the mask, that brother would be disqualified. They would play four rounds, with each turtle getting a chance to be ‘it’ and whoever caught all the masks the quickest won the game. Mikey almost always won.

TMNT 2003 had been my special interest for over 10 years and honestly got me through hell so so many times
I re-watched it a few months ago and wasn't planning on doing it again but well you made me go watch it again last night and now i have to bing watch seven seasons again and gosh I'm so happy and uh idk why I'm telling you this lmao
Also it breaks my heart that leosagi's last canon convo was during the whole leo PTSD stuff
Like he didn't even get to apologize
Ugh that's so frustrating
If i ever become a multi millionaire you can bet I'll found a remake of the 2k3 version so uh ... Let's hope i do become rich ig...

Your art is amazing i really like how you draw the turtles and poses and uh .... I personally have some struggles with angles in anatomy any tips ? Or like any general recommendations for you artist fans ?

Oh man, same! I started watching ninja turtles when the episodes were still coming out, back in '04 I think. I was 9! I got super into it, I got my best friend into it, we played with ninja turtle toys for so long.
My medical issues weren't so bad back then, but they were still a Whole Thing(tm) and I had the DVDs of the first 12 episodes of season 1 and all of Fast Forward once that came out. I watched both a LOT when I was sick, especially Fast Forward. It has gotten me through ROUGH times.
I'm glad you're rewatching it again! I've rewatched it probably three times in the last six months? I'll probably do it again, too hgdkfjg it's so good
Usagi does show up at April and Casey's wedding in the last episode, so I like to imagine that he and Leo had a time off-camera where they met and sparred a little and talked. I like to fill in the blanks. B)
A remake of '03 would be SO cool oh my god fhgfjg I would love that so much!!
ThANK YOU FOR THE COMPLIMENT AHH!! I struggle with angles in anatomy as well, foreshortening is rough oof. The way I learned to draw things from certain angles is taking stock photos and tracing over them to see how things were drawn. I especially love AdorkaStock (previously SenshiStock), their stuff is GREAT for practicing poses. Looking up youtube videos on gesture drawing can also help loosen up poses. I also really love the Morpho art books, they're super helpful.
A lot of practicing art is just drawing. Even if you feel like it's not good, you should still draw it! As long as you're having fun and enjoying the process. That's the important part. Draw what you want, if you don't like it then don't post it anywhere! Even if you do like it, you don't have to post it. Sometimes it's nice to just draw something that's all yours.
Don't apologize for rambling, as you can see, I tend to do the same thing, and honestly ain't rambling half the fun of having a conversation?? I love hearing from people!

Hey I noticed you are a 87 Raph fan. I am curious what’s your opinion on the 03 and 12 iteration
I love all the Raphs! I love the ‘tough guy who actually cares the most’ thing. I love 87!Raph’s sarcastic wisecracks. And honestly I probably write him meaner than he is. But he’s also a silly guy that loves costumes and pizza.
03 ‘Raphie’ just seems so cool to me with his attitude and accent. Definitely ‘a’. Favorite. I loved seeing him aim a triceraton gun. (Also he knits.)
I hate how the 03 turtles were.. mean? To the 1987 turtles. But the 1987 turtles were badly written and 87 Raph would probably talk smack about them too.
12 Raph, not as cool but still fun. I love how he cares for his turtles. ‘Tough guy’ meets dumb dork I guess. I’ve only watched the first season of this one cause I couldn’t get past some of the jokes. And the show missed the mark of some of what tmnt was about by trying to be ‘edgy’. So I don’t know if he ACTUALLY has an problematic behaviors. He usually hits Mikey back when he’s being a lil shit, and it’s deserved. (03 Raph does this this too but not as often.) Like siblings do.
While we’re here I also adore Rise Raph. I’m so happy that they depicted an accurate depiction of anger issues. He’s just a teddy under a lot of pressure. (Like my sister…) He’s such a complexed Raph.

ROTTMNT RELATED!!! Read it please.
I was in Facebook just now and I end up realizing something that pissed me off. Lots of people in the TMNT fandom on Facebook don't like Rise and they keep spreading hate across the fandom because is different (no doy) from the old ones and 'cuz of that should not be qualified as TMNT yadda yadda yadda...but man...ALL THE INCARNATIONS ARE DIFFERENT IN THEIR ON WAY! I mean gosh! Look at them! 87' were silly and funny and it was NOT like the IDW comics, but so many people loved them! 03' had a more serious tone and weren't like his predecessor, but it stil was TMNT and it was loved by many many fans! And I'm not even mentioning the 12' series! It was in 3D! Totally different from the others! I still remember the hate when people saw that! But guess what? Lots of people loved that incarnation, because, let's face it, it was SO cool and ,above all things, it was TMNT! So I ask. Why is different with RISE? It's still those four teenage mutant ninja turts that we all love and admire! Of course it has some differences, but (as I said) they all have as well! It's supposed to be different, because if it's not, what would be the point to tell it again? I know It's not the same and I understand why people may not like it, but please stop saying is not worth it! It has a beautiful (and fluid) animation, some really really good characters, a wonderful choice of voice actors, it's funny and lots of people enjoy it, even if you aren't a part of them. In conclusion my points is: Stop spreading hate against something just because is different and YOU may not like it. (And this does not go just for cartoons...if you know what I'm seeing).

TMNT Fanon
Hey all, it's me, back to (kinda?) rant about the TMNT fandom again. This isn't really a complete rant though, more just me pointing out what is popular fanon rather than canon. I've seen people getting angry at fan authors/artists who depict characters in ways that don't match popular fanon, but everyone is free to depict the characters how they want, and we don't all have to subscribe to popular fanon ideas. So I've listed out a couple of popular fanons or things that I see happen in a lot of stories below, some of which really annoy me (please let me know if any of these have actually been confirmed and I've missed it!)
1. Having the boys be different ages in series were they are confirmed to be the same age. In at least 12 and 03 they are all confirmed to be the same age, so why do so many fics insist on making Mikey a year or so younger than his siblings? It ties in to my previous rant about people babying Mikey, they conveniently forget that quadruplets are a thing so that they can make Mikey younger than the rest, really playing up the whole innocent little brother thing, which actually just completely unbalance all of their relationships (it's even worse when they make him years younger, particularly in human aus), so all the other brothers are in their mid to late teens and then Mikey is like anywhere from a toddler to 10 years old.
2. Unfortunately, for the most part, their sexualities and gender identities are just headcanons. Whenever they are canonically shown to have an interest in someone, it is a girl, and for the most part they are all shown to identify as male only. Now, I am all for giving the turtles different sexualities (I headcanon most Donnie's pretty much anywhere in the LGBTQA), but you cannot tell someone that they're wrong just because they don't headcanon them the same way as you (Rise and 12 Leo fans can be particularly rabid about this, I saw one Rise Leo fan telling someone that they can't ship Rise Leo with their female OC because he's gay, which is not canon)
3. How long 12 Mikey and Rise Leo spent in the prison dimension. They did not canonically spend years there. Quite frankly, I don't believe Rise Leo would have survived more than a few minutes in his Dimension x. And at most I would say Mikey was in Dimension x for a few days/weeks. His brothers did not take that long to follow him in, and I'm pretty sure time in dimension x isn't that screwy. I'm also pretty sure that he would have had some sort of scarring if he'd been in there for year. You can make as many headcanons as you want, but they are not canon. It especially doesn't work for Rise Leo.
4. Rise Leo being the medic. I have moaned about this before, so I won't completely rehash the same argument, but there is no canon proof that Rise Leo is the medic. There is also no canon proof that Rise Leo is an imnosiac. (It's also fanon that he is fluent in Spanish. Does he know some words in Spanish? Definitely. Is he fluent? No canon proof.)
5. Giving any Donnie apart from Bayverse, Rise, or Mayhem glasses. We... we see the Donnies as tots, and none of them except the aforementioned three have glasses. None of them have glasses as teens either (and no, goggles do not count). So why does pretty much every human au have Donatello wearing glasses? I know that TMNT is bringing back the 'only nerds wear glasses stereotypes', but we don't need to perpetuate it. And if you're not just doing it because of the stereotype, why not give one of the other turtles glasses? I don't think I've seen a single human au were any of the other brothers have glasses.
So, that's me done for today 🤣 Some of these annoy me more than others, and in some it's more the conduct of the fandom (aka when it comes to gender/sexuality fanon) that irritates me. Everyone is welcome to write the turtles however they want, and fanon ideas can become pretty popular to the point were people do act as if they are canon, but not everyone has to agree with them, or like them, and getting angry at someone for not conforming to the most popular ideas is not really beneficial to anybody.

Separating TMNT Verses and Characters
This is just a quick one, because I've been seeing this happen a lot recently and need to vent, but I really just want to say that it is so annoying when fans won't stop mentioning a TMNT series or character when a post, video, fic, pictures, etc, has absolutely nothing to do with them (this is annoying in other fandoms as well tbh).
If someone makes a post about, say, the relationship between Donnie and Raph in the 03 series, why do people immediately feel the need to start comparing it to other series, or start dragging other characters in? Or, as another example, if someone makes a post about how physically strong the Bayverse boys are, why is there always at least one person who has to jump in and be like, 'well, actually, thanks to his mystic powers, Rise Mikey is actually the strongest turtle in the TMNT franchise, and he can solo anyone'. Like, who asked? If the post is clearly discussing physical strength, and doesn't even mention other iterations, why do you think they'd care about you trying to prove that Mikey is the strongest due to his mystic abilities?
Or if you're reading a post/fanfic, or watching a video that is clearly about one character, and half of the comments are going on about someone else, or just annoying copy pasted phrases (this is worse on TikTok than tumblr though honestly, why does every TMNT post, even ones that aren't about certain characters, need several iterations of comments like 'transfem Leo solos', 'Mikey solos 'I am Rise Leos girlfriend' etc)? I probably am coming across as a bit of an ass here, or I am misunderstanding something, but I just can't see what value these comments bring to a video. Sure, people are free to say whatever they want, but if you are commenting on a video about one character, and the comment is solely a phrase like the ones mentioned above which have no relation to the topic of the video, I just don't understand the point.
When you're in a fandom with many different iterations of the source material, you need to learn that not all of the content is going to be geared towards your particular favourite, or your particular favourite character, and trying to interject them into everything is just going to engender bitterness towards parts of the franchise, certain characters, and even amongst the fandom. I think we've all seen posts that are annoyed at Rise fans constantly trying to take over posts, fics, polls, etc that have nothing to do with Rise, or trying to tell people that their characterisation is off because they are writing/talking about a different version, and some Rise fans don't always seem to realise that the dynamics are very different in other versions. Though I do tend to see this happening more with people who are primarily Rise fans, other parts of the fandom do the same thing, which can get pretty tiring.
I honestly think the fandom would all get along a lot better if everyone could take a step back and remember that not everyone is coming into the fandom for the same things. My favourite character across every iteration I've checked out, (and I have watched/read and enjoyed quite a few iterations at this point so I have experiences across most of the fandom), is Donatello, which is probably obvious from my previous posts, and if I was paid every time I've seen someone jump in on a post about, say 12 Donnie with a comment like 'Rise Donnie would be laughing right now, Rise Donnie would be cringing, Rise Donnie would never', I'd be rich enough to buy the rights of the TMNT myself. Obviously all of the Donnies wouldn't do the exact same things or react in the same ways to everything. They all have the same core, but they are also different characters in different universes with different experiences. Of my post is specifically about one version of Donnie, I don't want a bunch of people comparing him to other iterations or characters, or just generally shitting all over him.
Or a post about something traumatic that Donnie went through, and then someone leaps in with a 'yeah but the Leos obviously have it worse, they've gone through this, and this, and this.' Alright, but this is about Donnie so again, why should I care? If I wanted to discuss Leo's trauma, I'd have mentioned this in the post, or made another post about it.
I think that one of the most egregious repeating examples of this that I have seen is usually attached to the phrase, 'what about x character'. If someone creates something about one character, and you immediately hop in with a 'what about x' it kinda makes me want to scream. Say I made a post talking about how 12 Donnie actually makes a pretty good leader in some episodes, someone jumping in to say'well what about Raph or Mikey in these particular eps' would infuruate me. Or if I say, '03 Donnie really suffered in SAINW, someone jumping in to say, 'well what about Mikey, he suffered too' is more annoying than anything.
We all have to curate our own online fandom experiences, but part of this should also involve the realisation that other people are also trying to curate their experience, one that might be fundamentally differeny from what you want, and that, by trying to interject things about other characters and iterations where they arent wanted, you are probabky just going to make people annoyed.
Some people (maybe not all, but definitely some) will not want you to hop on their post and make it all about a character or series that isn't relevant to what they are talking about, and if you do so, you may face some kind of backlash. I have seen countless people grow bitter towards certain parts of the franchise/fandom and characters because of things like this (I know that I can grow irritable when half of the content that I consume ends up being buried in comments about things that are completely irrelevant). And this isn't just fans of one particular iteration or series, even though some fans have more of a reputation for doing this than others.
I guess my main point is to just have some consideration for others, and reflect on whether or not you'd be annoyed if someone commented on something that you'd worked on talking about a character you don't particularly like, and making everything about them. It can really suck, and I've seen people become discouraged when an excellent fic, character study, post, vid, etc of their favourite character gets flooded by comments of, 'this is more like x character, imagine x character in this scenario, but what about x'. Obviously this isn't the same for everyone, and some people actually do invite people to discuss other versions and characters on their posts, but I still think people need to consider whether or not the comment that they are posting is just going to end in an argument where no one comes away happy.
