— The Teacher (pt. 2)

Single dad! Gojo x Fem! Preschool teacher! Reader

Synopsis: Little Megumi wonders if you’re his new mom, and Gojo finds himself wondering the same thing.

⇶ Satoru stuck to his promise of taking you out

⇶ He left Megumi with Utahime for the night, and made sure that everything was perfect for you

⇶ Truthfully, he went a little overboard out of his own anxiety

⇶ Booked reservations for one of the nicest restaurants in town, deep cleaned his house (just in case), got his already clean car detailed, bought a new suit despite having many hardly-worn ones in his closet, stalked your socials for hints at what you might like, and more that he’d be far too embarrassed to ever admit to

⇶ Satoru picked you up from your house at 6 pm, knocking on your door with a giant bouquet of flowers in hand

“You look incredible.”

Those were the only words Satoru could come up with when he saw you.

He always thinks you look incredible, but seeing you all dressed up outside of your usual work attire was a nice change of pace, and you looked effortlessly beautiful.

“Thank you, Toru,” you beamed. “You look pretty,” you told him, scanning over his tall figure, clad in a deep blue suit.

‘Toru’, ‘pretty’. He nearly passed out on your porch.

Satoru smiled, clearing his throat in an effort to gather his bearings as he fought back the deep blush that was crawling up his face.

“For you, mon chéri,” he said, in a corny fake French accent, presenting the large bouquet of flowers to you.

They were neatly wrapped in a brown paper, and tied off with a white bow. From just the look of it, you could tell they were expensive.

“These are my favorite,” you gasped, taking them from him. “How’d you know?”

He stalked your instagram and found a post from a year ago where you said you loved them.

“Lucky guess,” Satoru smiled. “Y’ready to go?”

⇶ He led you to his shiny black sports car, opening up the door for you to get in

⇶ It even smelled expensive, and the fresh scent of car shampoo was still lingering. You could tell he had it cleaned just for this, but didn’t say anything

⇶ When you got to the restaurant, out of place was an understatement for how you felt

⇶ You were just happy you decided to dress nicer than you had originally planned

⇶ Looking around, the restaurant was beautifully decorated, and the people dining were dressed just as beautiful

⇶ The more time you spent with Satoru, the more that you realized you knew next to nothing about him

⇶ Where does he get all this money from? What does he do for a living? Who is he, really? And what’s up with the sunglasses?

⇶ You will admit, the mystery only made him all the more attractive, but you had a newfound determination to peel back his layers

⇶ But your first date might not be the best time for that, so you were willing to let things unfold naturally for now

⇶ Satoru insisted that you ordered whatever you want off the menu because he was paying, and ignored your protests

⇶ You hopped around different topics of conversation throughout dinner, and you did eventually make it to the subject of work

⇶ Satoru asked you what exactly made you want to teach preschool, or teach at all, and watched your eyes light up

⇶ Teaching was undoubtably a job you need to have a passion for, and you had more than enough passion for it

⇶ You told him that you’ve always had an interest in teaching, and loved kids and thought they were precious, sacred even, and that their early years are the best part to watch and be a part of

⇶ Satoru’s heart was getting ready to leap out of his chest just watching you talk about something you love so much

‘She’d make a great mom for Megs…’

⇶ The thought surprised even him, Satoru wasn’t sure if it was genuine or intrusive, but it had him glancing at your features and around him to make sure he hadn’t accidentally said it aloud

⇶ He told you that all the kids were lucky to have you, and that seeing you take care of Megumi and all those kids with ease made him feel like his worries from adopting were pointless

⇶ He glazed over the adoption part so easily, you almost missed it

⇶ Sure, you were more than well aware that Satoru was a single father, and when you saw that his last name was different from Megumi’s, you just assumed it was his mothers last name

“It is his mothers last name, but he’s not at all my biological kid. I adopted him from… a friend.”

⇶ You had removed a layer from Satoru, only to find how thin it was in comparison to the amount he had left

⇶ The revelation answered some of the questions you had, and left you with even more at the same time

⇶ Just based on the hesitation he showed, you knew better than to press any further, and changed the subject

⇶ The rest of dinner went smoothly, and you and Satoru once again went back and forth about the bill before he was calling the waiter back to take his card

⇶ On the drive back, Satoru asked if you wanted to see Megumi since Utahime’s house was in the same direction as yours

⇶ You said yes, because of course you wanted to see Megumi, and because it was getting harder and harder for you to say no to Satoru

⇶ When you arrived at Utahime’s, Megumi lept at you before he even said hello to Satoru

⇶ Satoru feigned being hurt by the action, but Megumi still payed him no mind, directing all his attention to you

⇶ Satoru thanked Utahime for watching Megumi, and you overheard her saying something about not dumping his kid on her again

⇶ Megumi had you sit in the backseat with him, and told you about all the stuff he did at Utahime’s

⇶ All the sudden, he asked why you and Satoru were all dressed up

“Did you guys go on a date?”

You and Satoru shared a questioning look through the rear view mirror, one that asked ‘Should we tell him?’.

“Sure did little man!” Satoru told him, but Megumi didn’t seem too surprised by his answer.

“Oh, Dad goes on a lot of those,” Megumi said, before going back to playing with the plastic dinosaur in his lap.

Satoru was rethinking all his life choices in that moment. He gulped back the saliva that had pooled in his mouth, already going over how exactly he could explain that to you later on.

To his surprise, he heard you laugh at Megumi’s comment.

“But I’m your favorite, right?” You asked the boy, playfully nudging him. He turned to you with big wide eyes and smiled.

“Yup!”

⇶ Dropping you off at your house, Satoru thanked you for letting him take you out, and haphazardly tried to apologize for Megumi’s little comment and explain himself

⇶ You told him it was fine, and thanked him for the night, hugging him and planting a kiss on his cheek

⇶ Satoru froze up at the action, but managed to say bye to you as he collected himself and you disappeared into your house

⇶ When he and Megumi got back home, Satoru made a point to explain to Megumi why he couldn’t just throw out information like that to people, especially you

⇶ While putting on the boys pajamas in the dimly lit dinosaur themed room, Megumi yawned out a question

“Hey, dad,”

He spoke through a yawn while rubbing his eye with his fist. Satoru hummed back in acknowledgment, straining out the bottom of the little boy’s pajama shirt

“Is Ms. L/n gonna be my mom?” Megumi asked, looking at Satoru with low, sleepy eyes.

Satoru thought back to the statement that popped into his head during dinner. You would make a great mom for him.

“Um,” Satoru started, tucking Megumi underneath his comforter. “I dunno yet.”

He was honest. He didn’t know if what he was feeling for you was real or if he was just in over his head.

“I hope she is,” Megumi muttered, huffing out as his breathing turned into soft snores.

“Me too, Megs.”

Headcanons Scars on the neck

🦉 Stolas x fem!Reader 🎩

You and Stolas have known each other for many years. Every time you saw him, he saw a scarf or a necklace around your neck. There was always some kind of accessory around your neck that covered your neck from other people's eyes. Stolas did not know what made you wear something around your neck, because you had never worn such accessories before. You didn't talk about it until one day he saw your neck

You hid scars under your scarf. Your whole neck was covered with scars that you never talked about. Stolas was very concerned about your scars, he tried to ask you about it, but you refused to tell him about it. He quickly realized that these scars were related to some event in your life that you didn't want to remember. He didn't ask you unnecessary questions, realizing that there were things that you might not want to tell

Stolas has become especially attentive towards you. When he noticed that your scarf didn't cover your scars, he carefully adjusted your scarf until others noticed what you were trying to hide. You were grateful to him for this care, realizing that you couldn't notice absolutely everything and you didn't want to show others your scars

He understood that for you, scars were something that you would like to hide and completely remove from your life. He didn't know where you got them from, but he didn't think to try to find out. Stolas was sure that when you were ready, you would tell him about it yourself. He was ready to wait for you to be ready and tell him about everything yourself

🐍 Striker x fem!Reader 👢

Striker came to you every time he didn't have a job. You were close, but even he didn't know what the reason was that you always wore a scarf. You were wearing it at the time of your first meeting, but at that moment he did not pay attention to it, because you had just met. After a long time, he asked you about your scarf several times, but you always turned the conversation to other topics

He found out about what you were hiding under the scarf by accident. He came to your house without warning you and saw you without a scarf and the scars that you've been hiding all this time. From the first day you met, you always wore a scarf around your neck. At first, Fizzarolli was sure that it was just an accessory that you were attached to, until one day he accidentally saw a part of your neck. There were scars under the scarf. Your entire neck was riddled with scars, the origin of which was unknown to him, and when you realized that he had seen your neck, you looked worried

You understood that he was worried about you and you trusted him, so you told him that you got these scars a few years ago and since then you have tried your best to hide it. You were similar in your secrets and it seemed to bring you closer. You were glad that there was someone you could trust, even though you felt sorry for Fizzarolli, who went through something so terrible. Now you both knew that you could entrust something as important as your scars to each other

Andrealphus noticed every time you saw each other, regardless of whether it was at a public event or at a personal meeting, that there was always a scarf or a necklace around your neck hiding your neck. However, he only found out the real reason why you were hiding your neck when you became a couple

Andrealphus had never heard of anyone trying to kill you, but looking at your scars, he knew you wouldn't lie about it. He hoped that whoever did this to you was punished, but the scars didn't make you any worse. He understood that you might not believe his words, but he really thought so. He really liked you and your scars didn't make you any worse for him

Andrealphus knew that despite all his strength and power, he couldn't rid you of your scars, but he could show you that they weren't a problem. He was sure that scars were a much smaller problem than many others that other inhabitants of Hell had, and he was sure that he would be able to show it to you

AU where Hisashi calls Izuku regularly while he works overseas and one day Hisashi tells Izuku about his new boyfriend who is very sweet to him and unfortunately got into a bad accident many years ago that left him disabled so Hisashi helps care for him.Izuku later finds out this boyfriend is AFO.

why would you leave inko for afo. 'hold on yeah i think i'll leave this priceless bahia emerald and skip town and then i found a broken piece of chalk instead.' my guy. you deserve all might stealing your son.

1- ok so. Hisashi is an accountant who moves to new york to make more money. He and inko officially divorce, which means Izuku takes the Midoriya name and Inko has sole custody, but while Hisashi does not have to pay child support or alimony, he does opt to send them some support and tries to stay in contact because i guess his taste in men was so bad that he and inko just work better as friends. good for them ig.

2- actually Hisashi is just straight up color-blind: he can't see any red flags. Its not just his personal tastes. this man has worked for four separate blatant money laundering schemes since he went abroad. he has no clue. this is how he ends up coming into contact with AfO, but AfO's job offering is too indirect and vague, and Hisashi is like 'are you... flirting with me?' instead, but AfO can work with that. And while Hisashi certainly isn't a genius with people or warning signs, i will give him (and inko) this: he's a great lay.

3- He's also a very caring boyfriend, which was part of the problem with inko, they ended up really inciting each other's anxieties, but AfO likes being pampered so he decides to keep Hisashi around even if he isn't a employee. even better really, that he doesn't have to pay, bribe, quirkify, dequirkify, or threaten him. Hisashi, as a bit of a doting boyfriend, also has a lot to say about the man to others, so Izuku ends up hearing a lot of gushing over the phone as he's training with weights and is a bit too out of breath to change the topic. plus, he doesn't want to bring up going to UA until its a sure thing, his dad will definitely freak out about it not being safe. finally he tells his dad he got in, and hisashi is like 'oh yeah, cuz they changed the rules, which track?' and izuku goes 'oh uh hero track and alsoihaveaquirknowitscalledsuperpower oh look at that moms calling me for dinner sorry bye.'

4. Dazed, Hisashi gushes about his son to his boyfriend later, dropping that izuku's going to become a hero at ua, what a surprise- but, well, he supposes his son has always loved to watch heroes...

AfO is like 'hm. being a hero isn't very safe...' ('i know...') 'why don't you try to push him to visit you? keep him safe. maybe in a safe. don't you just wanna keep a hold of him?' ("i do, but that'll only drive him away. he's growing up... besides, if i was busy only keeping watch over him, who'd take care of you?") 'mm, good point. keep prioritizing me, i will neither put a hit on the kid as competition nor do anything to keep him safer.'

5. Reveal... uh yeah so Hisashi does mention to Izuku when his boyfriend goes missing, sometimes he gets called to work suddenly but he's never been gone this long, he's worried, is he restocking his meds, where is he? oh yeah, he vanished around Kamino. unfortunate, but not incriminating on its own. What IS incriminating is rewound!AfO, looking at Izuku with a tilted head. "I can see bits of Hisashi in you, hm. Just the worst bits, luckily." Izuku starts realizing what this means. Bakugo distracts him and blasts him to the Shigaraki fight, because he also started to realize what it meant and simply did not want to deal with hearing anymore of that. Over at the ShigarAfO fight, AfO tries to keep throwing Izuku (and tomura) off their game by wondering if Hisashi will find this new, younger body nice as well- probably, its not like the man had the highest standards. Izuku and Tomura are united in such abosolute done-ness with AfO that he's immediately snuffed out of Tomura's head and nothing remains behind. Tomura is like 'uh, do you want a day's break and then a rematch because i need to bleach my brain' but izuku is like 'oh no i need to punch someone through a mountain rn, lets keep going while i reform you with the power of friendship and incredible violence.' (By unspoken agreement, neither Izuku, Bakugo, or Tomura ever breathe a word about it to anyone, much less to Hisashi.)

I was reading fanfiction and looking at fanart again, and while I find grumpy lover Blitzø funny, I don't think he's a grumpy lover. Have you seen the way he treats people he cares about?

My guy is literally ALWAYS doting on Loona. Constantly giving her affection, constantly giving her gifts, stopping whatever he's doing to go and help her, constantly protecting her, need I go on? Shes literally the only one he actually isn't a jackass to. Like, she can be completely awful, and here he is, defending her no matter what.

With Barbie Wire, while he did sabotage her job, he never once went out of his way to be mean to her, just insulting the people she works with and only getting mad at her because she didn't tell him he was out of rehab. And from what we can see, his is very clingy to her, to the point where it was annoying.

He was a dick to Fizzarolli, but that was before they knew what was going on and when they made up, he's affectionately mean to him and is determined FLABBERGASTED at the way Mammon spoke to Fizz. Like, bro had to take off his glasses to hear that shit.

Honestly, he's a dick to Moxxie, but paying closer attention stuff you can also see that he's still incredibly clingy to him and cares about him a lot, even if he finds him annoying (but also wants to sleep with him and Millie, and literally stalking.???? Yeah, ik it's cuz he wants what they have, but hope the show addresses that instead of it just being used as a joke). I think Moxxie is one of the reasons the fandom believes that he'd be a grumpy lover, but I think it's more about their personality clashes. Blitzø is a Chaotic shit-talking jackass who has crazy ideas for shit, while Moxxie is more reasonable, nervous, and down to earth, which Blitzø believes to be annoying.

For Millie, well, we don't see them have one-on-one interactions much (plz give Millie more attention she's literally so wonderful) but from what we can see, he thinks very positively of Milie and their on great terms, with both of them giving each other nicknames and them enabling each others chaotic behavior. The only downsides that I can see their friendship having is the fact that Blitzø literally stocks her and Moxxie and sexually fantasizes about her, despite Moxxie and Millie being married. Also, Millie referring to Loona as "her bosses hellhound" and treating Loona like a dog, but in the show, Blitzø has only seen her do that once and corrected her once, so I don't think he knows much about that.

This has turned into me analyzing Blitzø's close friendships, and sorry for getting off topic, but talking about how Blitzø would be annoyingly affectionate with Stolas again! From all this, I imagine that if Blitzø and Stolas ever did get into a relationship and get past all their bullshit and trauma, Blitzø would literally just be like, "Oh my Satan, haiiiii😍😍😍😍😍😍😊😊😊😊😊😊❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ how's my favorite prince doing 😚😚😚😚😚😚😚😚😚😚😚😚😚😚😚😚😚😚😚😚I got you flowers and mice because ily so much❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️. Astrology Observations🤍

Hey everyone! I haven’t posted in a while as I do have a full time job. However, my chart readings are still open (the link is in my bio!) On the topic of chart readings, I get quite a few DMs asking if I do free chart readings. I unfortunately do not at this time, doing chart readings takes a lot of time and energy. I try my best to make my ‘observation’ posts as detailed as possible, and my patreon posts are all public! Meaning you don’t have to pay to view them. I have no problem answering a question about your chart for free but an in-depth chart reading will require you to purchase a reading🤍

Okay back to the post!

Having your Solar Return Sun in the 8th house isn’t as scary or foreboding as people make it seem. The 8th house IS the house of change, death, and transformation. However, I’ve seen this placement in a Solar Return chart as having something significant happen. Such as purchasing your own home, moving out of your parents home to go to college, a major change in your finances! Getting married and having to share your assets with your spouse etc.. This year will likely be one of the most pivotal years of your life. I’m not saying it will be an easy year (though it can be). However, you will likely enter your next solar return year in a completely different financial, physical or even emotional head space.

On the topic of solar returns, if your solar return Neptune makes a conjunction to your Ascendant, you may find that people are very drawn to you that year. I’ve seen this manifest as people all of a sudden paying close attention to you, or they may be idealizing/glamorizing you in some way. In terms of romance, you are likely to have many suitors this year! This is especially true if you have planets such as the Sun, Moon, Jupiter/Neptune (ruler of Ascendant) in your Solar return 5th house.

If someone’s ascendant falls into your 10th house, you probably like being seen with them. As in, you take pride in other people knowing that you are associated with them. Alternatively, it can mean that you feel as if they have the potential to impact your reputation or your professional success! (This can be in a positive or a negative way). One of the most straightforward manifestations of this overlay is that the ascendant person could literally be older than you, or they can be someone you look up to in some way.

Chiron in the 9th house can manifest as growing up believing in a specific religion/philosophy, only to drastically change your beliefs as a young adult or as an adult. For example, growing up in a strict Christian home, only to become atheist. I also can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen this placement manifesting as someone not going to college or someone dropping out of college for whatever reason!

If you’re a woman and you have harsh Venus-Pluto aspects (square,opposition and sometimes the conjunction) you may find that other women can be very envious of you. With the conjunction, you may find yourself attracting a lot of “frenemies” where you can tell that they are not fond of you, but for whatever reason they still hang around you. Excessive and constant comments about your appearance especially in childhood are also a common manifestation of having hard Venus/Pluto aspects. The conjunction specifically!

If you have an earth sign (especially Capricorn) over your 5th or 7th house cusps. Your friends/people close to you may say that you have a “type” when it comes to dating/romantic partners! Its not necessarily about looks (though it can be) but you always seem to go for the same “type of guy”. However, if you have a sign such as Gemini or Aquarius over the 5th/7th house cusps your friends/family may even be shocked at how different your romantic partners have been to each other physically & personality wise!

You’re likely to share some 3H,4H and 9H synastry with some of your closest friends! You may also see Saturn sextile Ascendant or Venus trine Saturn synastry aspects in some of your long-term friendships!

In terms of familial synastry, you may very well have one of your big three signs (sun,moon, ascendant) being the same sign that is on the 5th house cusp of one of your parents charts! Alternatively, you may have a personal planet that is the same as the sign that is on the 5th house of your parents composite chart! Interestingly, I have often seen similarities between the angles in parent-child synastry! For example let’s say you have your rising sign in Aquarius , one or both of your parents may have their IC, descendent, or midheaven in Aquarius! I’ve actually seen this happening a few times!

TW:Mental Health/Illness

Talking about mental health/mental illness is always a very controversial topic in the Astro community. No, Astrology cannot take the place of an actual professional medical diagnosis. I am also not a medical professional, so please do not self-diagnose. However, I believe that Astrology should be used in a way that enables us to get a holistic understanding of ourselves. Having said this, Mercury square Neptune in a birth chart is an aspect that I have seen countless times in the charts of people who have opened up with their mental health struggles. BPD & substance dependency/abuse are arguably the most common ones I’ve seen with this placement. On the more positive side, people with this aspect often have some kind of creative/artistic talent such as being able to sing,draw, act etc… individuals with this placement are also likely to advocate for mental health awareness, or the end to the stigmatization of mental illness!

Sand/Ray/Mew/Top on knowing who you are and what you want (Only Friends ep 3)

I watched the 3rd episode of Only Friends tonight and I have a lot of feelings about how Sand, Ray, Mew and Top represent different aspects of knowing who you are and what you want... So it isn't proper meta but here are some random thoughts :

I really appreciate Ray being unapologetic about being into Sand on some level, even if it isn't romantic, he's so forward about wanting to drive him home, spend time with him, listen to him play and sing, eat the food he cooked ... and sleeping together again obviously, but I think it's how honest he is about wanting to be around Sand that makes it hard for Sand to resist him. And that makes it hurt so much more when Ray just as openly prioritizes someone else (Mew) over Sand.

But even then, I think Ray's earnest feelings are going to be very attractive to Sand. Ray is genuine in his feelings for Sand and doesn't hesitate to pursue him, and maybe Sand is going to wish him to stop being so self-loathing and go for what he loves because he deserves it. I'm not saying it will happen, but I could see a world in which Sand somewhat encourages Ray to go after Mew, especially since he clearly doesn't care much for Top.

What's that about by the way, what's the history between Sand and Top ? I absolutely love Sand scratching his temple while showing his middle finger to Top after they've made eye contact, and Top's immediate reaction to criticize Sand's band being there is a very good way to make it clear to us that they've had beef. They could be ex lovers, but I don't get that vibe actually, I feel like their dislike for each other runs deeper and is probably more meaningful than that.

As an aside, Khaotung/Ray's flirtatious eyes at Sand in this episode are God-tier, he is SO FUCKING GOOD at looking at him through his eyelashes in a way that feels both slightly submissive and in complete control. He's a cute sexy cat and he knows it, and First/Sand is doing such a good job at being slightly disarmed, attracted to him, slightly flirt back but yet playing it cool and holding back from feeding it too much haha. They act like Ray is so excited to see Sand and want to jump on him at all times and Sand is afraid of getting burned but finds Ray to endearing to resist, and it's delicious to watch

I'm talking about these eyes and these smiles and these eyes and smiles (thank you @justme-1723 and @intolove). I'm absolutely not over them.

The way Ray asks Sand if he's going to charge him for their night together somehow feels so different to Boston telling Nick he's updated their relationship to being a regular. Between Ray and Sand, it feels more like an expression of Ray's slight vulnerability, his being used to having to spend money on people for them to stick around, and a reflection of their teasing relationship where their banter is largely based on calling each other jerks.

Plus Ray telling him their night was priceless anyway was such a smooooootth line haha, slightly corny but definitely efficient. Could almost distract you from the fact that he's deflecting on Sand's joke that he should see a therapist.

Sand's comments throughout the episode that Ray should see a therapist remind me of the way I've seen people try to joke around some topics to bring them up to a friend or lover, because they actually thing they need help but aren't in a position to straight up communicate that. Sand is acutely aware that Ray is messed up and that his issues are above his paygrade, and I respect him for that.

Everyone in the friend group is excited when Ray mentions talking to his dad about the pool party being thrown for PR, I assume because that means he might pay for it. No one is excited at Ray picking the band or even seems to know he's that into music as well. Aouch

Top and Mew's silent disco date felt very random in this episode, like there was little context for it except to say that they do go on dates ? It's a good opportunity to show through that dude Beam hitting on Top that Top has actually not engaged with his former hook ups since going out with Mew, but also that he won't outright say he's dating Mew if there is not benefit for him to say so. Mew's reaction is also very telling of the fact that he knows Top's history of sleeping around, can be secure in himself very well and that he won't give in to feeling like he's lucky to have Top's attention.

Edit : maybe this scene is more interesting than I thought, thank you to @chickenstrangers and @ranchthoughts for pointing out here the metaphor of everyone being in different headspaces within the same relationship. Maybe I'd push it even more to say they're not really listening to each other, they think they're dancing to the same beat while they don't actually know what music the other person has in mind.

Though really this scene just feels like it was made to get Top to say "I wanna be a hero but a villain is my role" while Mew looks at him like yes to both

Jennie's boyfriend the bartender is the one to point out Ray's alcohol problem now, I guess you need at least one per episode !

Sand pointing out all the roles he fills for Ray really highlights how lonely Ray is, and how close Sand is to acting like a best friend and even a boyfriend to Ray when they don't know each other that well. And when Ray already has a best friend that he dreams of being boyfriends with.

As Sand identifies all the needs he's tending to for Ray, and how much Ray seems to want someone who is everywhere in his life like a boyfriend contradicts what he says about wanting to be friends only, he's clearly scared both of Ray falling for him and of falling for Ray. Which makes me think he knows he cares too much about people who needs his help, and once again it's really going to hurt when Ray rejects his guidance and makes bad choices for himself

Sand strikes me as the most self aware character of this show, even more than Mew, careful about who he lets in and smart enough to know he should maybe avoid the challenge (where Mew chases it) instead of tempting fate. Not going to be enough though

Mew immediately noticing that Ray is flirting with Sand and encouraging him to go for it is true best friend behavior, even though on the receiving hand it hurts like hell, and I feel for Ray. He does seem touched by how sincere Mew is in wishing him happiness, and that's adorable

Ray is absolutely incapable to hide his annoyance with Top when he's around, and their battle of "we're rich boys who know prestigious bands" is kinda funny

But Ray also respects Mew's autonomy, and does nothing with Boston's provocation to interfere in Mew's relationship with Top. Ray is smart enough not to trust Boston's goading (for now) and to know he's not in a position for Mew to like him that way

Ray presenting driving Sand home instead of waiting for a taxi ride as "saving him" on the same level as Sand preventing Ray to drive drunk is hilarious and a good sign that Ray really doesn't do much for anyone

Especially not without ulterior motives since they end up making out. Their make out also feels more intimate than Nick and Boston who have actually been hooking up for a month or something. The places those faces and those hands go...

They're making out in the same parking lot that Ray called Mew from after he was kicked out of Sand's place and got frustrated he was being put aside for Top. And that's where Mew calls Ray as his second choice after Top to help him, and so Ray drops everything for Mew and doesn't get into Sand's place even though he could. The symmetry of those situations is striking.

The way Ray not only picks up his phone, but fully pushes Sand away and readjusts his clothes properly, like it wasn't happening, like Mew is the legitimate boyfriend and he doesn't want to get caught hooking up with Sand who's just a side piece, hurts more than Ray going to help his friend, and I'm pretty sure Sand feels the same. Ray is showing him what he wants most.

The revelation that Ray and Mew did apparently hook up two years before is very interesting and I don't know if I believe it ? If it's true, it does feel like it was maybe experimentation for Mew and Ray respected that, and that honestly feels pretty realistic and respectable to me ; it's crazy that it's enough to make Top question if Mew is cheating on him, especially given how he is himself surrounded by people from his past and has so far resisted them. Maybe precisely he feels stupid if he's resisting them while Mew isn't, or he's also projecting and thinking that in Mew's shoes he'd use Ray's feelings for him to get some sex on the side

If it isn't real though, I'm curious about if it's just a Photoshop/angle of the picture making it look different, but Boston says he has a video too. He could be lying though, obviously

Interestingly enough, I feel that the couple that was arguably centered at the beginning, Top x Mew, is the least interesting this episode, because on their end everything is basically reaction to other characters. What they're doing and what they will do in the next couple of episodes will largely be consequences of Boston and Nick's actions (dedicated post here)

Meanwhile, Ray and Sand are trying to develop their own thing, on their own terms, aside from the rest of the group, like they've done the previous episodes. But with Sand being roommate with Nick and Top x Mew about to implode because of Boston, they're definitely not going to continue being outside of the main drama. I'm not sure how Ray will handle it and how it will impact his relationship with Sand yet... Looking forward to episode 4 !

THOUGHTS WHILE WATCHING GILMORE GIRLS: SEASON 3, EPISODE 3-“Application Anxiety" (Part 2)

According to Mr. College Admissions Dork, the following fatal errors will guarantee your REJECTION! From Harvard. Bad handwriting (how quaint) Your chosen after school activities are considered boring to Mr.Dork. You don't have enough after school activities. Not enough means you're not trying hard enough. You take too many after school activities. Too many means you're trying too hard. As per Mr. Dork, nobody is interested in everything, and if you like too many things you will be !REJECTED! You submitted your application too early. You are a hopeless idiot if you believed the myth of "Early Admission". Ha ha! Dumb idiot kids! You're too intense. Hyper intense students will FAIL their admission interview! Mr. Dork along with his cohort, Mrs Dork, the delightful rays of sunshine they are, seem to find great joy in publicly dragging their own future students, mocking children who dare to dream of Ivy League admission and cover their walls in university paraphernalia, calling them "hungry and immature". These people are assholes. I think Season 1 Spitfire Rory would have pushed these admission dorks right off the stage. QUIPPY! Rory is wetting her pants and Paris is twitching. Let's flash back to early season 2, where Rory was contemplating some potential after school activities. *sparkly flashback music*

The extra cirricular/summer school options visible behind Rory were: Junior life saving, rock climbing, botany, contemporary art, hiking, loom weaving, local geology, role playing (????), field hockey, and Shakespeare. Harvard will be jumping to accept the applicant with a strong Role Playing/Loom Weaving background. I guess the Asshole is technically not wrong that the school newspaper seems passe* with those options available.

The Dot-Com Bust. How quaint. I'm old enough to remember hearing about it at the time (I was still a teenager) but thanks to GG I decided to do a little research on the topic and learned more about it. Thanks Emily!

The notion that college=guaranteed success? How quaint. And Rory majoring in journalism is the cherry on top of the Quaint Jello. It's okay, she couldn't know. The brutal and hilarious truth is that Jess (who didn't finish high school but is already a published author and running his own business by 21) and Dean (who ended up working in construction, which tends to pay very well) were more succesful than Rory with her Yale education in the end. In fact, Rory had the nerve to needle Dean in S4 about his construction job when she has an Ivy League education but won't even take a job waiting tables. Hell, it's even implied that Luke is sitting on a lot of money and he didn't go to college (although maybe not the best example, as that might have been an inheritance, I can't remember if it was ever discussed in detail). Hell, pretty much everyone in Stars Hollow didn't go to college and they seem very happy with their little working class lives. And if Jess didn't dismember Shane and dump her body in the lake she'd have made a good living as a hairstylist or makeup artist. In a later episode this season, Lorelai turns up her nose at the thought of Rory not going to the most elite college and implies that beauty school and community college are beneath Rory. But lemme save that special rant for when that episode comes along. However, in a few moments, Lorelai does tell Rory, "You HAVE to go to college." I get it, okay. I get what she's doing. She wants Rory to reach for the stars and do better in life than she did, get a good education etc etc. But this notion that attendance at an elite college as the only possible means to achieve success and anything less is just short of failure feels short sighted. Emily continues: the competition is fierce for admission, every student takes honors classes and works on the student council, a high GPA is not enough anymore, Rory needs to do something to stand out, extra cirriculars, etc, etc, we know, we know. Emily: Now even celebrities are going to college. I was watching that insipid Kate Hudson and even she talked about going to college. She's going to get in over Rory! Kate Hudson must have been a big deal in the early 2000s (I vaguely remember it) because they reference her a lot. Almost Famous came out in 2000 and How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days came out in 2003 and she made 11 movies total between 2000-2004. So that tracks. Back on her home planet, AmyShermanPalladino must have picked up an Earth People magazine and read about how Kate Hudson was popular with Earthlings. Really funny that Emily is more aware of current pop culture than any character under 35. Lorelai's still over here spouting references to Yo Yo and Dingus from 1973 or whatever. Lorelai: Don't worry about it Mom, Rory's special, she'll get in to Harvard. Emily: Of course Rory's special. She knows that, I know that, you know that, we all know that. Years of that "Rory's a special snowflake who can do no wrong" talk is definitely not going to have adult Rory up to her eyeballs in therapy bills. Rory shows up at Emily's and Lorelai, Rory, and Paris (on the phone) proceed to have a three way simultaneous Nuclear Panic Attack over the Harvard applications. The next morning at the Gilmore abode, Lane is visting and fielding phone calls about her rock band personal ad. Still no Rygalski.

A SMALL CHILD IN STARS HOLLOW! HOW DID IT BREACH CONTAINMENT!

This dapper gentleman addresses Luke as "Sir" , orders an "Egg cream" and offers to pay for his meal (so he's definitely an outsider). Another child and then a manchild (Kirk) followup with requests for other malt-shop items that nobody has ever ordered outside of a 1950's Archie comic. ,... Waaaaait a minuuuute. I know what's happening. These children are Taylor's operatives sent to scope out Luke's Diner. The "Taylor Opens an Ice Cream Parlor Next Door" plot will soon have liftoff.

Between telling a small child to go to hell and insulting Dean to his face for no other reason than he felt like it, I could not love Luke more in this episode.

Can you explain how you feel about cons? I struggle with seeing them as like the celeb/influencer/actor (who’s wealthy enough) taking money from regular ppl just for them to say hi? It seems like everyone who goes has a lot of fun but I can’t help but think it’s a waste of money. Especially considering the stories of celebrities throwing away the gifts they’re given as soon as they leave. It almost seems like a way to make their egos feel good and I imagine they go home laughing at how people would do anything to meet them 😖😖 Or maybe I just have anxiety

I absolutely can tell you how I feel about cons, anon!

First of all, going to cons (at least to me) isn’t just about the actors. Sure, I won’t attend a con if I’m not interested in anyone in the line up, but going to a con is so much more than that.

Let’s talk about the whole “celebrities taking money from regular people” thing first. I personally don’t have any issues with paying for an autograph or a photo op, simply because this is part of their job. Like I don’t mind paying a hundred euros for a concert ticket and then queue for 12+ hours to make sure I’m first row, even though I probably won’t be getting any interaction with the artist on stage at all.

I understand not liking the concept of cons, but I’m very glad those exists. I think if you want to meet someone you’re a fan of, someone you look up to, conventions are great. I live in a tiny town in Belgium, there’s no way I’d randomly stumble on a celebrity here like it might happen in London or NYC. So, yes, cons are a nice way to meet those who you look up to. I see it a bit as forcing the hand of fate, if you will. But again, I understand not being into that.

Is it a waste of money? Perhaps. But I could be wasting my money on worse things, if you ask me. I could spend it on alcohol, on going out every weekend, on gambling. I could spend it on clothes (I do, I’m very much guilty of this), on restaurants, etc etc. You might be spending your money in a way that I would find wasteful! We all have different priorities, different things that make us smile, and that’s okay.

For the gifts part, again it’s something that I can understand from the actor’s part. I attended a (relatively small) con in London a couple of months ago and one of my friends was part of the staff. We had lunch together the next day and she told me about how after the con, actors will sort out the things they keep and the ones they don’t. It’s not about them not caring about the gifts or being ungrateful, it’s mostly about luggage space/weight. When they meet hundreds/thousands of fans and get hundreds/thousands of gifts, it only makes sense that they aren’t able to bring all of it back home with them. It is a bit saddening, yes, but no one forces us to gift them something. When I bring a gift to a celebrity at a con, I know there’s a chance they won’t be able to take it home, and I’ve made peace with that thought.

I’ve never really thought about celebrities going home and laughing at the people who’ve met them during cons, to be honest. I feel like it might be because I’ve only met people whom I think would not do that? Take Gwen for example, since she’s the main topic here, I very much doubt that she goes home and just…laughs at her fans with Giles while they share a cuppa. I mean, I don’t personally know her, we only know what she’s willing to show us, but that would be THE plot twist of the century, Gwen actually being a mean girl.

Now, about cons being more than just the actors. I love travelling, there isn’t a day where I’m not thinking about where I’ll be going next. Thanks to cons, I’ve been able to travel to London (the city of my dreams) more often. I’ve been to Dortmund, where I had never been before, and I’ll be going to Liverpool next month.

I have met so many incredible people at conventions, I’ve made friends at cons nearly a decade ago whom I’m still in touch with now. Gwen said something that really stuck with me last weekend. Something about how cons are a place where you can find a tribe, a clan, make friends who share your love for an artist/piece of art.

I feel at peace when I’m at cons. I feel like I can be myself because I’m surrounded by people who understand what it’s like to be a fan of something/someone to the point where you are willing to pay for it.

There is nothing like the feeling of belonging.

I will keep going to cons and meet actors I look up to, I will absolutely keep meeting Gwen whenever I can because I adore listening to her rambling about cinema and theatre and empowerment and how beautiful humans are.

Call me a hedonist if you wish to, but I wake up everyday with a single thought in mind - seeking pleasure no matter what I do. So, how do I feel about cons? I feel about them like I feel about most things I choose to do, they bring me pleasure and I love that.

I hope i was able to enlighten you, anon. I’m sorry this turned into a whole essay, but I do have a lot of feelings to pour when it comes to these things!

HERE I AM I WATCHED THE FINALE

OKAY FIRST OF ALL IT WAS SO FUCKING GOOD AND ACKNOWLEDGED/BROUGHT BACK A LOT OF THINGS I HAD NOT VERY HIGH HOPES FOR

but i gotta be honest, the whole season did. it was fun and genuinely hilarious, while also acknowledging (maybe not doing something with it yet, but we have a whole other season already under go) some plot points like colin dreaming about his childhood with lazlo

THIS FINALE THOUGH

i honestly honestly honestly have to say, i would not have changed a single thing from it. it was INSPIRED. i want to talk about the theme of this season, the vampires are assholes and they will never be nice to each other, but they are a FAMILY and they care about each other so deeply

first of all we have the morrigan manor trap, which i enjoyed so much, and although the season did a great job at building up to this with a hundred little moments in the previous eps, i was still literally shook at seeing the vampires face the music. like wow the guide is really telling them off for how they treat her and guillermo. like, i felt it. and nadja and lazlo are like ok this could have been a conversation but fine heres some footage of us being nice about u behind your back, AND THATS SO LOVELY LIKE - MY DEAR WE ARE FUCKED UP CREATURES OF THE NIGHT WELL NEVER TELL YOU TO YOUR FACE THAT YOURE IMPORTANT TO US

and its like. this season does a lot to put all the previous seasons into perspective. i cant even begin to speak about nandor and his aversion to turning guillermo. like, CHRIST

anyway the moment where nandor finds out was SO fucking delicious i love you mr de laurentiis i am completely in love with you going insane going insane also like ive seen some DISAPPOINTMENT over this finale and im ???? speechless is it that they didnt kiss or fuck? NANDOR KNOWS GUILLERMO BETTER THAN HE KNOWS HIMSELF HE KNEW HE COULDNT BEAR KILLING HE KNEW HE WASNT READY AND WANNA BET HE ALSO KEPT HIS DISTANCE ALL THESE YEARS BECAUSE HE KNEW THAT WOULD ADD TO GUILLERMO WANTING TO BE WITH HIM FOREVER BUT HES TOO CODEPENDENT TO LET HIM GO WHAT!!! THIS SHIT IS DELICIOUS

but where was i ah yes nandor finding out nandor staking out panera bread and talking to some rando about guillermo and nandor going to his mothers (vampire killer! so its like dangerous for him lbr) place once he found it within himself to let go of the humiliation and prioritize his feelings for guillermo. let that sink in. he didnt want to find him not really. otherwise he would have threatened his mom weeks ago. nandor actually forgiving guillermo and its just like that. because he loves him too much. nandor doing the gayest most romantically and sexually charged shit in the world to prove to guillermo he actually has forgiven him. nandor bringing guillermo home. and saying he will be living with us AS AN EQUAL

nandor bringing him blood. and while we are on this topic, NANDOR WHO HAS THE IQ OF A RUSSIAN TOILET KNEW RIGHT AWAY WHAT GUILLERMOS PROBLEM WITH HIS TURNING WAS AND HOW TO FIX IT. AND HE DID. IMMEDIATELY. WHILE LAZLO STRUGGLED FOR WEEKS. NANDOR KNEW INSTANTLY. this episode had such biiig caretaker nandor energy and i fucking gobble that shit up. he pays so much attention to guillermo and he is so warm and loving to him whenever hes not catching himself…… i think im gonna go cry

nandor looking at guillermo with barely repressed lust as guillermo shows off his new vampiric powers and is taken by a frenzy to just go and do some shit. nandor lurking in the shadows listening to guillermos confession about not being able to kill, and looking so broken up about it, and wanting to fix things immediately for guillermo (but he cant, and btw im glad they brought back the lamp even if it was just to say you dumbass, you are out of wishes, like maybe that was a disappointment to some people but im sort of glad they made nandor use up all his wishes because the whole ceremony bit was sooooooooooooo thoughtful and soooo warm on nandors part). he went and staged the whole place and orchestrated the whole thing just so guillermo could speak from the heart and say he made a mistake. that is insanely loving of him

and btw idk anything about the lore of vampiric lineage BUT! tbh i do think this is such a cool loophole. like when guillermo reverted, time for his human form had passed. which means if any vampire who has lived, idk, more than 130 years had the same thing happen to them, they would obviously turn to dust. of course they would die! but guillermo had this happen only a few months ago so hes good! and the vampirism is reverted! and he has the time and knowledge now to think long and hard if he still wants it

to be honest (not to be a blorke about nandermo) i do believe that nandor and guillermo will get into it next season and the subsequent conflict will be that guillermo cannot be a vampire so he will age and die one day, but i think since nandor is so caring and “acts of service” in this last episode, maybe the solution they find is they decide nandor will turn guillermo eventually, and then bring him blood without guillermo having to hunt and kill (he could also like rob blood banks or drink from people without draining them)

anyway how cool is it that guillermo turned out to be so similar to louis (interview with the vampire, the very movie that got him to want to be a vampire), with the same conflict, except he did get a do over thanks to nandor ❤️

one last thing before i go that i didnt mention NANDOR TYING GUILLERMOS CAPE SO LOVINGLY AND WITH SUCH ATTENTION WITH SUCH REVERENCE GOD I KNOW WE’RE IN FOR A TREAT NEXT SEASON. AND NANDOR FUCKING STAKING DEREK. DO YOU WANT ME TO DO IT. I DONT KNOW. I DO *STAKE *. LIKE WHAT. THAT WAS SO INSANELY HOT TO ME GOODBYE FOREVER AND SORRY FOR THE LONGASS POST

this is my first time writing anything. be nice.

part 1

He's late.

Zoe sat at the end of the bar, her phone on one side and her recorder on the other. She fought off ordering a beer, she wanted to be polite and wait for him.

But if he's going to take his time and be a half hour late, all manners are going out the window at this point.

Right when she was about to flag the bartender down, her phone buzzed.

Sorry, there was traffic. Parking now and walking up. Be there in 5. - C

Zoe couldn't have rolled her eyes harder.

"I hate to ask, but did you get stood up for a first date?" the young bartender finally said, noticing her and walking over. "You've been staring at the door the entire time like you're expecting someone"

"I'm expecting someone, but it's not a date, trust me." Zoe said, holding up her recorder. "Can I have a Allagash White? you can keep it open" She said, handing the bartender her card.

Zoe went into journalism because she cared about people and their stories. She felt it was a lost art; the industry now is filled with clickbait articles and poorly researched topics that led people to believe a false narrative.

One of Zoe's favorite childhood memories is reading the Reader's Digest with her father. She would wait for it in the mail, run to him in the living room where he normally was - in his recliner smoking a cigarette watching the news - and read it from cover to cover with him. Her favorite was the jokes section when she was younger. As she got older, she would ask her father questions and it would open the door to deep conversations about the world in the people in it. She continued these conversations with her dad well into her teenage years; as well as when he was in the hospital dying of lung cancer from the very cigarettes that were burned into her favorite memories of him.

She went to Columbia. Masters in Journalism. She thought her writing was going to change the world and show people how they could fall in love with journalism and get excited to read articles again; Spark conversations with people and have them connect with one another.

Why was she working for Page Six doing celebrity profiles?

Honestly - it paid the bills. Student loans aren't going to pay themselves. She learned the hard way that life is not an early 2000's rom-com; where you could have a column in a magazine, live in a brownstone and go out every night with your friends drinking cosmos.

No, life right now was living in a 1 bedroom apartment, with a questionable water stain on the ceiling, a window AC that barely works and a 70 year old lady who lives next door that has more men over than you do.

It's just temporary, yes. She might of been here for 3 years already, but it's not forever. 32 isn't old and she can still find her forever job. Yes, everything is fine. All part of the plan.

At least, that's what she tells herself when she's having a panic attack about it at night.

In a strange way, she IS learning about people... celebrities, that is. Her interview style was more casual; she felt people opened up more when they were doing something they loved, or over a drink. And people did open up.. she got to interview Leonardo DiCaprio and got a lecture from him when she asked her bartender for a straw. She never heard the end of that one. She learned how to roll a joint from Seth Rogan. She got to have coffee with Anne Hathaway and she showed her all the outfits she kept from when she filed The Devil Wears Prada. Hello!

I was wondering, how does working in a library looks like? Is it fun? What responsibilities are there? Would you mind telling about it?

YES I want to talk about the library!! Always and any time!! Ask me any library questions and I will be excited to answer them!!

I will say that any experience in any library will depend on what role you were hired to fill. I would have a vastly different experience if I was hired to work in a college library with students, or in a medical library with student doctors, or in a law library, or in a private library or in an archive...There are lots of roles librarians fill, and each one is unique!

I, however, took every child psychology class my undergrad would let me, and now I work with the tiny babies! 🥰❤ (And the medium babies, and the preschoolers, and the kindergartners...)

I work in a public library, which means we serve a certain geographical area, and I work with a certain age group, which happens to be birth through K ages, which means that my role is to support the reading habits, language acquisition skills, and local educational efforts in town and in our school district for all the kids who fit that age group. Therefore, my responsibilities are to:

Manage the collection! This means that I make sure we're getting hot new kids books in, [especially kids books with huge educational value (ask me about how we judge this sometime)], that all the gross old busted books are tossed summarily, and that they fit our library's mission statement. Since I work with the little kids, I manage the Picture Book section, the Board Book section, the Early Reader section, the read-along books (CD books or chip-reading books), and sometimes the audiobooks and the kid tablets. I also have to know about the chapter books, graphic novels, nonfiction books, and tween/teen books, since kids will ask me about them at the youth services desk, but I don't manage those collections.

Provide programming! Librarians usually have a specialty in...something. Everyone finds their niche. It's guaranteed. This may be because most librarians are secretly neurodivergent but also because it's great to be good at something and have people learn to expect it. Some people are great at research in certain topics or know a lot about local resources or can lead certain craft programs that may be specialty only. Since I work with babies, My role is to provide a lot of storytime programs, age-appropriate craft programs, and help facilitate outside performers in the library to provide educational things I can't. (Ex. I don't know sign language, so I can't do sign language storytime. We hire someone to to this for us since it's not an easy thing to branch out.)

Perform outreach! Outreach is what it's called when the librarian shows up at your school and says "you know we have sonic comics, right?" And kids are like 'YOU HAVE SONIC??' And we're like, 'yeah, we have Dogman too'. Outreach can take many forms— Adult Services librarians might head to a community home or the food pantry or nursing homes to check out books and make library cards, but Youth Services librarians usually go to community centers, parks, and most importantly, schools! This is so that we can preach the good word of library cards to kids at an age where they can learn the values of never paying for books but still being voracious readers. Want a million books at home? Check out ten at a time, and you'll hardly ever run dry!

Now...is it fun?

I mean. I think so? I love my job; I get to see babies every day, I get to recommend the books I read as kids to kids now, and give them the hot new books when they need something more modern; I get to tell moms to stop being so weird about their kids' reading habits and just let them read comics, no, really, it has a massive impact on their willingness to fall in love with reading; I get to tell kids that they can get to pick out their own sticker if they clean up the toys when they're done playing (HUGE for them); I was trained to sing since I was yea high, and I love picture books as an art form, so planning storytimes is super fun and exciting for me! On the other hand, I'm basically performing half hour mini-shows once a week— or maybe even multiple times a week on outreach weeks— and have to have them scheduled months and months in advance before they're actually designed, and each one is new and untested. Every week. The performance anxiety can be unreal, even when I love what I'm doing. I love gossip, but I actually get overstimulated in rooms with a lot of active people for a long time, so some on-desk days can be stressful. People will harass you about changes upper admin make, but you're the one on the desk, do you're the one they yell at. My coworkers are all amazing and I love them, and that's pretty lucky, haha. The kids who see me come to their school ALL come up to me to tell me I visited ("I know, I was there! What book did you like the most?") and ask after the books and resources I showed them while I was there. I show them books and things from my childhood, things that are about to disappear. We sing songs older than some of the parents are and songs released last year. All things are give and take.

And sometimes on empty desk shifts, I write fanfic. So. ✨👍🏽📚

I would say that if you're interested in libraries, volunteer at your local one. A lot of things librarians will tell you about will sort of get washed aside when we try to infodump everything to you when you get your card. I'll be like "WE HAVE FREE WIFI HOTSPOTS AND MUSEUM PASSES" and people will be cleaning out their ears like "huh? What'd you say? Whatever." Volunteering is a great way to get out on the floor and get to know all the services public libraries offer. I got a two year degree in two years of working part-time and full-time, and now I make construction paper crafts for kids! I needed a Masters degree for that! Whack. Anyway being a librarian is like doing whatever you want and giving out freebies all at the same time, as long as you also do your homework and make sure your large collection of books is nice and clean and functional.

Also. Weed out all the racist books. "What but racist book #2 was my favorite! :(" Don't care. I work with early childhood education and baby books. If a kid sees that, their self esteem could be harmed irrevocably. Dump it.

Other roles in public libraries are different: you could work in circulation, collection development, marketing, tech services, adult services... But this is what I do! 💜📚💜

Any advice in making a character

Oh, I`ve got so many, I actually had to restrain myself))

Be self-indulgent! This is the most important thing to do. If any of my further tips conflicts for you personally with this one - this must always win! The main purpose of your character is for you to have fun, to get a voice, to be able to talk about whatever is important to you! Pay no attention whatsoever to people accusing you of making Mary Sue or Bella Swan. It is ok to learn, make mistakes, make characters, that will make you cringe in a few years.

Make as much moodboards as you need! 5 pinterest boards for 1 character is ok, even great! Don't hesitate to make a full moodboard for their home, even if you are planning like 1 short scene in the house.

Moodboards are good not only for pictures! Feel free to add quotes, that remind you of your OC, make playlists for them, go to your favorite clothing online catalog and pick, what would they buy from it! I for example have a thing for scents and I make perfume moodboards for characters (just helps me to feel them better). I use Miro for multimedia moodboards, highly recommend it.

Try starting your character as an 'archetype'. What I like to do is to go to this page and take a test from a perspective of my character The results often help me understand, how would my character react to different people and manage different situations. There are different personality tests, you can use. I believe, this one is the most well known, but I find my first option more helping in writing.

Character 'growth' is not obliged to be something positive. Your character can always become a worse person and it is still a growth.

'Play' with your character constantly! Even if you made them for one short text - ask yourself questions about them every now and them! Would they pick the same type of cheese as you? What was their favorite music genre, when they were 10? And now? What was the most awkward date, they ever had? Dont be shy, use writing promts to come up with little stories about them. This all will give you an indepth understanding of your character.

One of my favorite games to play with my characters is '3 interviews'. I imagine my character taking part in: 1. a talk with a psychologist 2. a cross-examination in court 3. an interview with a journalist. These are 3 situations, that motivate the same person speak on very different topics and relive different emotions. So I like to just examine their behavior. You will be surprised, how many ideas this little game adds to your character.

Don't be shy to ask others to tell you about your character. Request little stories or headcannons about them. The goal here is not to have the same perspective on your OC as your friends do. The goal is to understand, how others see them and which detail (and why) work good or bad for you. There are some authors out there, that take requests and commissions for others OCs.

It is ok to make your characters look like an average person and it is absolutely ok to make them look incredibly beautiful. Don't force yourself to change anything in your OC just because their partner is very good-looking, or because some said to you, that such a beautiful person has no place in this fandom.

Give your OC friends, hobbies, interests outside their job and love-life. Please. You will be surprised, how useful it is to keep this emotional hideout for your character.

Killing your OCs parents is not the only way to make them move out of their parents house. (don't worry, I myself have 2 OCs, whose parents are dead).

Making your OC kill someone is not the end of your OC. Your readers wont start hating them.

The more power your character has - the less freedom they get. Life of a queen is planned to the minute, life of a peasant - endless pool of possibilities))

Watch video essays where therapists talk about different characters in popular culture! There are so many ideas, you can get there for your character. My favorite channel is cinema therapy they have so many wholesome, funny, serious vid on this topic!

By the way, never be afraid to borrow some ideas.

Wanna see a trick? Ok, I'll describe briefly a character to you and you will try to guess, who am I talking about. So our guy, a middle-aged man, lives in a depressing gray world, full of violence and indifference. He loses his job and escapes his constant suffering in fantasies, where he is famous, has his own show on TV, the audience loves him and even his favorite late night show host applauds him. But these are only his fantasies, when in reality nobody care about him except for his senior mom, who genuinely loves her son. Youre thinking something like "Arthur Fleck" or "Joker"? Well, I've just described you Rupert Pupkin, the main character of 1982 American comedy "The king of Comedy", which had a great impact on 2019 film Joker.

My message here: it is not bad to revisit your favorite stories and characters and let them form your OC.

Abandoning one OC and moving on to the next is not a betrayal. Having multiple OCs for one fandom is not an inability to concentrate. Your brain produces many ideas - it is ok to give yourself creative space.

Self insert can be fun and interesting. Just don't forget, that you are not obliged to insert yourself in one and only character - you can always give your thoughts and traits to multiple characters in the story!

Your character needs flaws, not because it is a shame to write somebody perfect. They need flaws, because that will actually help them navigate through their lives.

I think you mentioned the number 20 before too.

20 and how it's been paired

You are right, Taylor has not used twenty much in her songs, and only this and Epiphany are not about Harry. It's pairing is also interesting, it was released with Right where you left me:

And then she played it with Say Don't Go in the last Eras show of 2023. RWYLM and SDG are about holding onto that relationship, while ITTG is about knowing when to let go, but the ITTG lyrics don't seem to refer to Harry. I think she has put them together to ask herself and the listener "Is it over now?" I don't think she knows, but ITTG doesn't talk about him.

It's time to go

Taylor said It's time to go is about "listening to your guy when it tells you to leave. How you always know before you know, you know?" The Lyric video reflects this with fine cracks forming in a wall, it is about paying attention to when it is time to give up.

I think this song is about her overall philosophy and thoughts on how to know when to hold on and when to let something go. The lyrics point at a lot of times she's let something once important to her go including Joe, Karlie Kloss, Scooter, and her parents divorce.

I think she spent the pandemic reflecting on what she wanted. While folklore had a lot of 'what if's' in the Spring, by the fall/Winter on Evermore she was reflecting 'well then what is it that I want.' Then on midnights it was Joever.

Lyrics

When your dinner is cold and the chatter gets old You ask for the tab Or that moment again, he's insisting that friends Look at each other like that

This reads to me as Joe, he seems cold to me and was constantly pictured with friendly female friends on set. This scene sounds like what Taylor acts out for Tolerate it in the Eras show, and this (after this song was written) photo from October 2022 with her arms crossed while he mansplains something:

I'm with everyone else thinking this refers to Karlie Kloss. Here's Buzzfeeds summary of why it's Kover.

The 20 years at a job nepotism line doesn't have a particular meaning for me, though I expect there is lots of it in her experience. The second half is about her parent's divorce, they were married for 22 years. This is the most indirect part of the song I think because it's a very personal topic, she has sung about it on Fearless before.

The chorus and bridge are the self-talk in the song to let things go when they have run their course. I have seen people say the things in this song she let go are "toxic" which I don't think Taylor is saying or is true, something can be good and end, people can do regrettable things and still have been important. (other than Scooter, because f*** him)

15 years, 15 million tears Begging 'til my knees bled I gave it my all, he gave me nothing at all Then wondered why I left

Taylor signed the deal with Scooter at age 15, this verse is about him and her masters.

This is also about her masters, and she acts this out in the Eras show too, and I can see you MV:

The outtro is almost exactly what she wrote in IG as the thesis, which is about knowing when to let things go, the song has listed the things she has let go that were once close to her.

1: thank you! this is a very big question that i've thought about sharing more in depth before but became a very overwhelming topic. there's so many ways to explore colour that it's hard to capture in a single pdf let alone a single post. i'd like to return to that project, but here's a little summary for the mean time:

through a strictly technical perspective, i started off learning colour harmonies. these are the most basic introduction to colour theory. they are useful but they're difficult to apply if you don't know how light works... learn different colour systems and the physics of light. i really recommend colour and light by james gurney as it goes over this better than i can.

what i find important is learning how to blend the technical knowledge with symbolic meaning. in other words, ask yourself what kind of story colours can tell and how you can achieve it. different meaning can be extracted depending on where you put colours, how much you use them, how you relate a colour to a specific subject, what the history of that colour is, etc! don't just think about if colours look nice but if they make you feel a certain way.

sorry this is a very basic answer, but if you had any more specific questions or wanted me to explain my colour choices with a specific artwork i'd be happy to do so.

2: my main project right now is called xyril's city (though lately i've been considering renaming to xyril's labyrinth). xc is a story that takes place in the 1980s and it starts off with kid forteman, a farmer in ashborne, ohio, trying to find out why her crops and livestock are getting sick. she puts the blame on acelle corp, a company that recently moved into town and flushed out all of the local businesses. after kid gets fired from the farm, she decides to confront acelle corp at their headquarters in montross, new york. in montross, there is... a lot going on. acelle corp is trying to take control of the entire city which conflicts with the interests of unions and the lebub family, a crime syndicate and the former power of montross. kids made it her job to investigate montross politics & the role of acelle corp in everything.

lately i've been working on the characters in lucky lebub's hotel & casino (which this piece takes place in). jasper's official title is casino floor manager but his actual role is the right hand man to the head of the lebub family, slade. sweet talking, charismatic, always enticing people into another game. he's having an affair with ashiri whose official title is... just an employee. does everything, from cooking, cleaning, waitressing, escorting, etc. her secret job is organ harvester, though the only person he harvests organs from is himself because he has regenerative abilities. he inherited his late husbands debt, so she has to take on a bunch of roles to pay it off.

So I have many novels in the works, but my most important one by far is Just Another Tomorrow which I've been working on for over a decade at this point. I started it as an escapist fiction when I was in high school and it has morphed into a novel about life, therapy, found family, and other strong topics such as familial abuse, drug abuse, teen pregnancy, hate crimes, unorthodox coping mechanisms, and what love really means.

Maddie, a 17 year old, has been stuck with her abusive father since she was 4 years old. She was told her mother walked out on her and her father (truth later reveals she committed vehicular suicide). In her freshman year, she meets Cameron, who notices how solitary she is and tries to become her friend. He learns about her home life and becomes determined to get her out of there, by any means necessary.

The book starts on the night they run away, and follows them through their road trip. The book is told from Cam's POV, he is a very unreliable and biased narrator, but he's also a 19-20 year old dumbass who of course has privileges he never considered (two parents, nice house, stable jobs, etc), so he learns A LOT through the book. Between chapters, we get excerpts from Maddie's diary, to show her perspective on things. We learn about their history together through flashbacks, shown through Cam's POV as well, because the novel very much follows his train of thought (poor undiagnosed ADHD man). So basically something triggers the memory in the book and it goes into the flashback, it's very fun.

Anyways they're just trying to stay away from their hometown until Maddie turns 18, so that legally they're in the clear from her father. However, they run out of resources and they don't know what to do, so when they're stopped in a small town in Arkansas, he's trying to get some cans of soup and peanut butter, and an older couple comes into the shop and notices him. This is Rob and Edie, cofounders and current owners of Summerfield Family Campground. Edie asks if he needs help, and he nods, on the verge of tears, because of course this was his idea, he was supposed to have all the solutions, he was supposed to help Maddie, and now he's struggling. So they couple offers help, Cam and Maddie follow them to the campground, to a smaller offset called Utopia. This is where Rob and Edie host their found family, all sorts of people who they've helped over the year. This includes their biological son Vinny, his husband Daryl (nicknamed Dare because in college he took every dare given to him), Jess and her toddler aged daughter, Elijah, [Wren] (I have gone through about 13 names for this character and I cannot settle on one, basically genderqueer AuDHD who was a troubled foster kid), and a few others. Ta da, found family!

Anyways, this is where most of the positive character development happens, Cam learns, Maddie heals, everyone is happy, until cops discover that Cam and Maddie are runaways and that their parents are desperate for them to come home, so they have to run again.

Later, Cam accidentally finds Maddie's diary open to a page where she talks about wanting to go home because things were easier there (it was an older entry but undated bc they lost track of the days during their trip) and he gets mad, storms off, and gets hit by a car. They're both taken to the hospital, and that leads to parents getting called and basically the end of the running away. Cam's parents arrive first and he starts explaining to them why he had to do what he did. Then Maddie's father arrives and starts laying into her, tearing her a new one, making a scene, and that's when Cams parents intervene and say she's not going with you. He's banned from the hospital and goes back home bc he didn't wanna keep paying for the hotel. Happy ending, Maddie and Cam are safe and (relatively speaking) well. Obviously Cam has a long road of recovery ahead but he's alive, so can't really be too upset at the circumstances.

There's a LOT more than that to the book, but that's the gist of it. I'm really proud of Just Another Tomorrow. Special thanks to @xmarinaryx who has seen this book from start to finish more times than I can count, and has marked up many a page with red pen.
