I did all three backstories for Touchstarved (I have 12 hours on this thing and it's only the demo)
Kuras and Vere don't seem to have red options, but Vere does have a secret ending and Kuras... I don't know, holds you for a bit longer?
For Mhin, it really is just picking The Alchemist backstory. You can call them short or whatever and you'll still get it.
For Leander, you have to take the flowers and keep touching him. It's okay if you hold back the first time even.
For Ais, you gotta tell him fuck you and pet the soulless, and after that red option pretty much all yours.
Differences I found between the three backstories:
It is pretty much like how they tell you, Oracle gets premonitions, Hound has experience with people and survival, and Alchemist has knowledge about magic and science, so there's different things you find out with each one.
The Alchemist:
I may be a little bit biased, but think The Alchemist is the most informative (It's also the first one I picked). There's the expected info of noticing that Vere's collar is enchanted, or knowing about how strong Leander really is when it comes to magic, but it's got the added bonus of MC's mentor having been in the Senobium in the past.
Compared to the others, The Alchemist is more familiar with Senobium, albeit through word of mouth. It's interesting how many times the MC says something similar to "I didn't know the Senobium did that." It calls into question whether MC's teacher was lying, or more interestingly (and what I think might be the case), the Senobium has changed a lot recently. It's talked about, even without the Alchemist backstory, that the Senobium used to be somewhere you could go to for help, but now most of the characters you meet do not like the Senobium, so what changed?
The Hound:
The Hound (the least popular option, apparently) was pretty fun. The Hound notices more about Ais, specifically that he's very suited to be a leader, and that the number of scars he has (one) seems suspicious for his temperament (or "how seasoned he acts", as the MC puts it).
One thing that I found very fun was doing Mhin's route as the Hound. They're somewhat able to keep up! They can (or tried to) recognize tells, and noted that Mhin was one of the few people who was able to sneak up on them. They also weren't sure how Vere managed to get their key. They were also prepared to steal to survive.
The Oracle:
While The Hound notices physical things, the Oracle notices... how do you say, otherworldly things. The Seaspring seems to be hiding a lot (of course it is), but the MC notices a heartbeat. A presence. They feel something from Ais. The name Ocudeus means something, they can feel it. They feel like they can see Ais' tattoo move.
Also, the MC feels something from Mhin and Kuras (in his clinic at least), which is interesting!
If I had to decide which love interest was better with which backstory...
Vere: The fact that the Alchemist thought that they could tell what enchantments were on his collar if only they could touch it feels promising! And both their connections (though I mean connection in the loosest term for MC here) to the Senobium makes it feel like you might very well find something.
The Hound might be one of the few who can actually survive this guy if I'm gonna be honest. (I mean you can still get killed by him but. You know.)
Ais: The Oracle's sixth sense makes going to the Seaspring a lot more interesting compared to the others, and the way they can feel something from Ais is very cool.
The Hound can tell his character better than the others, and I wonder how that will come into play later on.
Kuras: The Alchemist knows their way around spell-crafting and alchemy (When I picked this I wondered if they would be able to help Kuras around the clinic, which doesn't happen, but hey it might).
The Oracle seems to also feel something from him.
Mhin: First things first, their red option literally requires you to have the Alchemist backstory. Mhin's precision is noticed by the other MCs sure, but not to that detail.
Watching the Hound observe where they could be was so fun to watch. It feels like this MC will be able to keep up.
The Oracle feels something from Mhin, something inhuman.
Leander: The Alchemist was able to tell that the flash of magic was a barrier spell, and that most magic (or at least the ones they're familiar with) uses an incantation or spell circle. His didn't.
But either way, there will be things to find no matter the backstory you choose, and all of the character's stories are intertwined, so don't let this dissuade you from a specific backstory! There will always be things to find, you just need to look.
Extra: I found it pretty cool how each MC has a different way of knowing what a Groupmind is. Story-wise this makes sense of course, but each of their reactions to it are slightly different, from I heard this from rumours of people in cults (Hound), to I used to be told I could put people in a groupmind (Oracle), to legends suggest it was possible with a strong enough catalyst but it's never been done before (Alchemist).
Also, it's interesting to know what they each think of surroundings (specifically the Amaryllis district). They all have different opinions from I used to be told bizarre things about this place and now I kinda get it (Alchemist), to it's not that different from the place I grew up in (Hound), to it's VERY different from where I grew up in (Oracle).
And if I'm not mistaken, the reason Vere gives for your desperation is different for all of them!
You can find gameplay from me on my Youtube channel, or watch me getting all the red options and secret ending here:
youtube
I didn't read it out loud cause my mic sorta sucks and sometimes it peaks and gets a bit shrill. Also you see how my mouse moves sometimes? It means I'm screaming. I don't think I'd have been able to keep calm enough for this. Also my reading kinda sucks anyway hope you like it lol

character hyperfixations suck actually because theyre the only way i can be invested in media but also they will have me going "hey where are they" "i wonder how theyre doing rn" right up until either the character or my interest dies
#currently in garlemald#i JUST realized while writing his post. the dying thing. i lose interest when a character dies bc no more new content#it happened with destiny & cayde it happened with zenos in ffxiv#but the thing is. these games have a fuckton of lore and story to comb through.#my interest in either game didnt die with the character hyperfixation i just. got a new one.#in theory i can be somewhat normal in ffxiv and actually appreciate most characters but. yeah. replaying shadowbringers except#im only interested in the cutscenes.#i didnt care about the first the first time through bc i was that fixated on zenos#i do care about the first NOW but only because gaia is my dearest & she & ryne deserve to be happy#but obviously gaia isnt in the msq so#shadowbringers felt formulaic in the same way hunting down the primals in arr msq did#while yes the overarching plot of shadowbringers is good and the writing is great and the villain is fantastic and graha is there.#going to a region doing a bunch of quests killing a lightwarden 'and now go do this four more times :)' is not my personal idea of fun#stormblood is still my favorite but hey man what do i know#it wouldve been endwalker if it wasnt for the ending & the way it sent me into 3 days of constantly ranting about#narrative redemption vs narrative condemnation for characters#but hey what do i know im just a teenager with weird opinions on things#really wish i was more confident in my takes i have so many posts i could make

in desperate need of a genshin impact break tbqh so i'm replaying mass effect 3 and also playing the elder scrolls online again and i forgot how much i missed it, being able to travel and/or explore with an actual group or even just a companion and with banter and conversation instead of just... alone 🙃
don't worry i still adore kaeya with every fiber of my being lmao
#kayleigh.txt#yes you can have four characters in your team in genshin impact but you don't have your own personalized character#and none of them talk to each other or to you even really lmfao#it's just very... impersonal??? idk if that's the right word but yeah#i need to play a game where i actually have friends and companions to spend time with 😂#plus the current events are just... of absolutely no interest to me and i'm not enjoying them at all#the game is beginning to seem more like a chore than an actual pastime that i enjoy#i say as i'm currently replaying me3 for the 27372732th time and bawling my eyes out lmfao#BUT MY POINT STILL STANDS me3 isn't boring and monotonous and irritating and lonely 😂#i have squadmates and A ROMANTIC INTEREST in it which i love that for me#even in eso we have companions now that we can travel with and talk to and they comment on everything#idk genshin needs to up their character interaction game#i think it's mostly because i prefer rpgs where you can customize your character#and you don't really HAVE a character in genshin#like yeah okay ik you're technically 'the traveler' but you can't choose your appearance or personality or anything which is so stupid jfc#idk i'm exhausted from this new job and having works 45hrs each of these past two weeks ugh#and i'm miserable because i'm pmsing and it's so ridiculously fucking hot and unbearably humid here on top of that#hopefully i don't drop genshin entirely but who's to say what will happen 🤷🏼‍♀️#right now i am very much bored and frustrated with it so yep break time lmao

hii! first time requesting here but if possible, i was wondering if you could do something nsfw with wanderer and a fem!reader who gets jealous easily but is stubborn won't admit it. so it takes a bit of. you could say,,,, persuasion 🫣
Wanderer x fem!reader. Smut. Fingering.
a/n: I feel Wanderer would be very, very good with this kind of persuasion.
Wanderer saw your jealousy the second it happened. It wasn't overly evident on your face, but it was there. The subtle, annoyed twitch of your eyebrow whenever another girl's hand lingered a little too long on his whenever she'd handed him some essays he'd checked out from one of the Akademiya's libraries.
You could feel it. His shit eating smirk as he looked at you from where you sat on his bed, your arms crossed, your lower lip pulled between your teeth, playing with it as you replayed the scene earlier over in your head again.
He sighed.
Here it comes.
"You were jealous, weren't you?" Wanderer practically purred. You could feel his ego inflating to proportions to where it felt even the four walls room of his room couldn't contain it.
"I wasn't," You replied stubbornly, hastily looking away from him.
Ah, there it was. That stubborn pride of yours. It always seemed to get in the way of him hearing what he wanted to hear.
"How childish," He scoffed, sitting down next to you. As cute as your pride was, it was time for you to admit to him that you were jealous. He was getting tired of this silly game he played with you.
Wanderer knew there was only one way you could be persuaded into admitting the truth.
"What are you up to?" You asked suspiciously when he put a hand on your thigh.
He hummed, unconcerned by your question. Putting a hand on your shoulder, he gently pushed you back onto the bed. His hand travelled from your thigh up under your shirt, his fingers tips brushing teasingly against your bare skin.
Satisfied when he felt goosebumps prickle on your skin, his fingers unbuttoned your pants, putting his plan into action. His indigo eyes watched yours intently, waiting for the reaction he knew was coming.
The breathy sigh of anticipation when his fingers brushed against your clit outside of your panties. He took his fingers away when you started to move your hips up into his fingers.
Wanderer wanted to tease the idea of denying you release. "It's a two way street, don't you think?" He asked, dipping his hand into your panties, rubbing his index finger in circles around your clit. "I'll give what you want if you give me what I want."
"D-don't hold your breathe," You replied, letting out a shaky sigh of pleasure.
Wanderer knew your defenses were already folding. "You'll tell me what I want to hear, one way or the other," His pushed two fingers inside of you, his smirked widening when you moaned. He nudged his fingers lightly against your sweet spot, barely applying the slightest amount of pressure as his pumped his fingers in and out of you.
"I..I won't," Your hands folded to grip the sheets, feeling your walls quivering and starting to clamp around his fingers.
Wanderer chuckled, increasing the pace of his fingers, bringing them against your sweet spot a little more each time, making a louder sighs tear from your throat. "Yes, you will~" He scissored your walls apart, adding a third finger.
You cried out, bucking your hips into his fingers. Wanderer was enjoying watching you try and swallow your pride, desperately trying to chase the high that his fingers promised. He slammed his fingers inside you, wanting to see it crumble apart.
"Are you ready to admit it yet?" He asked, putting a hand on your hip to hold you still while you writhed against the bed. He knew your orgasm was close. It was going to sound that much sweeter in his ears to hear you admit that you were jealous as he made you cum screaming on his fingers.
Responses formed and died on your lips, coming out in incoherent whimpers of pleasure. "Just a little more," Wanderer purred, knowing he was seconds from hearing exactly what he wanted to hear.
You choked back a sob of pleasure, your hand reached out to grab his wrist, urging his fingers deeper inside of you as the knot of your orgasm broke apart. "Okay, I admit it!" You cried out, "I was jealous. Is that what you wanted to hear?!'
Wanderer fingered you through your orgasm, revealing in his victory until your walls no longer clamped around his fingers. "See, it was that easy," He said, leaning down to press a gentle kiss to your lips.
You sighed, defeated against his mouth. "Don't let this go your head."

Nightlife 9
Warnings: touching, coercion, manipulation. Proceed with caution.
Note: I know what you’re thinking, why the fuck are you doing this? Well, you wanted bouncer Lee and I did too. Also, short!reader, not sorry.
Part of The Club AU
Tumblr media
You can barely look at Lee as shame nips at your wits. Your body is still tingly with the aftermath of what happened. Even an hour later. It replays in your mind, over and over, even as you try not to think about it. You can’t believe you did what you did and you just can’t believe how much you enjoyed it.
He did too. You could tell by the way he twitched. How after he held you against him, reluctant to let you go as his large belly rose and fell slowly beneath you.
The world feels far away until you come in sight of your building. You blink through the window, refusing to look at Lee. Every time you do, you’re reminded of what you’ve done. Worse, that quest splits your head; was it okay? Was it wrong?
“Gimme a kiss, sweetheart,” Lee demands as he puts on the parking brake, “‘fore ya go.”
You look down at your lap then slowly turn your head. He grabs your chin, startling you, and pulls you close. He crushes his mouth to yours sloppily as you squeak. Finally, he parts but his hand remains locked on your jaw.
“I gotta go get some sleep but you go on to class. Don’t forget to pack a bag for tonight, darlin’.”
“Tonight?” You pout.
“Yeah, you’re not gonna leave lil Hickory all alone, are ya?”
You suck in your lip and think. You almost forgot. You feel worse for that. The thought of the kitten being all alone for so long. You can’t do that.
“Oh, yeah,” you gulp, “yeah, I’ll bring a bag.”
“Just give a call when you’re ready. I’ll be awake ‘round three or four,” he explains, his hand brushing down your throat. He lets out a hum as he feels how you swallow nervously. “I’ll pick ya up and all that.”
“Um, okay,” you acquiesce, “yes, sir.”
“Be good,” he winks and gives a firm squeeze to your chest, “don’t think of me too much.”
You look down as he finally retracts his touch. You resist the urge to cover your chest, instead pulling on the handle and letting yourself out of the car. You snatch up your bag and give a tight-lipped smile before spinning away. The door snaps shut in your stead and you scurry away.
It can’t be that bad. Not if he’s acting like that. Not if you enjoyed it so much.
💮
The day draws on. As the hours roll by, you get more and more nervous about what comes next. The quiz for Social Psychology doesn’t seem as intimidating in comparison to Lee. And you don’t think you did too bad.
You go back to the dorm. Raquel isn’t there. She might be at class but more likely she’s with her friends.
You shove some pajamas and a fresh set of clothes in a bag and toss it with your knapsack. You don’t want to call Lee just yet. You need a little bit of time to yourself; without professors or coeds or anyone around.
He messages you first. You swipe up the conversation and are greeted by a picture of Hickory. Beneath him, you see a glimpse of Lee’s chest, covered only by a thin ribbed tank top. The cat is so cute, you don’t really think about the man under him.
‘Cute!’ You text back.
‘Ready to go? Kitty’s waiting.’
He’s straight to the point as always. It’s past five. It doesn’t feel like it’s been that long.
‘Sure,’ you reply. You’re not really ready but you don’t think you ever will be.
You grab your bags, knapsack on your shoulder, tote in hand, and you go down to wait on the steps. You play a matching game on your phone as students walk by, to and from their respective abodes.
A toot breaks your attention from a nearby squirrel. It flits away and you look up as Lee’s car putters at the curb. You stand and he gets out. As you come down the walk, he opens the passenger door for you.
“Hey, darlin’,” he grins and bends to kiss you. Taken by surprise, you let him, trying not to care about the passerbys.
“Hi, Lee,” you say breathless as he pulls away.
“God, I love it when you say my name,” he winks, “come on then, let’s get going.”
You get in and he shuts the door. You place your bags on the floor by your feet. You buckle in as he goes around to the driver’s side and gets in. He pulls down the seatbelt and clicks it into place. He clears his throat, searching around as if he’s lost something.
“I went out and got some toys for lil Hick,” he says, “uh…” he reaches behind your seat, “so you can keep him entertained.” He sits up and holds a small black bag, “bought you something to play with too.”
He hands over the bag and you take it in surprise. You feel the shape of a box through the plastic. You chew your lip and glance back at him.
“Oh, thank you,” you smile and clasp it in your hands.
“Ain’t nothing,” he says as he shifts into gear. He steps on the pedal, pulling out onto the street patiently. “Well, you gonna see what’s inside?”
You look down and turn over the bag. It rustles as you examine it and reach inside. You slide it out little by little, the hot pink cardboard a surprise. It’s so bright. You flip it over to read the front;  ‘Three speed bullet vibe.’ Your mouth falls open at the sight of the small vibrator visible through the transparent plastic.
“What… I… Lee, I don’t– I can’t–” You quickly hide the toy.
“Thinking you should explore a little,” he drawls, “since ya said you never done much before. It’s always good to get to know yourself, isn’t it?”
“Well, um, I guess, but… I don’t know.”
“If you need help, I don’t mind, I could show you how it works,” he says, “I only thought you might feel more comfortable figuring it out… then you could show me.”
“Ummmmmm,” your voice floats from you. You’re speechless.
“You’ll be all alone and I hate that I can’t be there with ya, so I only thought you would have lots of time to… you know.”
“It’s very nice of you, Lee, but I think maybe, um, well, I’m okay. I’m fine.”
“Don’t you be lying,” he warns, his timbre gritting, “I felt ya this morning. Shaking like a leaf. You don’t know what you’re feeling. Trust me, it’ll be easier once you know what you like.”
You sniff and squeeze the bag in your hands. You’re burning in horror.
“Er, okay, I’ll… okay.”
He’s quiet as he follows the flow of traffic. He shifts in his seat and clears his throat. He looks over at you quickly and a purr rises from his chest.
“Why don’t you open it up and give it a try now?”
“What?”
“It’s fine, just slip it on out.”
“Lee, maybe… later.”
“Darlin’, I got you a gift, don’t be rude.”
You stare at your hands. They’re shaking. You can’t say no. Not now. He’s bought this for you. He’s come all this way. And it’s just a toy. Just sex, right? Everyone else is having it so it can’t be that bad.
You slowly pull the box out of the bag again. You open the lid and slide out the plastic insert. It crinkles as you pop out the toy, feeling the silicon between your fingers. You clumsily free the battery and examine the toy, twisting the end as you figure out how to load it. You put it back together and hold it in your palm.
“Go on, turn it on,” he rasps.
You grip the toy and press the button with your thumb. You angle your hand over your lap as the vibrations rattle through you.
“Spread your legs wide,” he orders.
You obey.
“Now put it right up against yourself.”
You hold your breath as you do as he says. The toy quakes against you and the sensation makes your whine. The intensity has your legs snapping shut around your hand.
“Now, don’t you stop,” he demands, “not til you cum.”
“Lee,” you babble.
“Hush, sweet thing, I hear it in your voice, feels good, don’t it?”

The Spiral [Lio Meier] - Part 3
Tumblr media
A/N: WOW I am blown away by how much love part 2 got from you all. Have I mentioned how much I love you???? Omg 🥰 So, a treat is a quick turn around for part 3. There are 2 more parts after this, then we leave Lio alone for a little bit hehe. Also, apologies in advance, I cried while writing this chapter.
Word count: 3.5k
ICYMI Part 1, Part 2.
Emma Meier is curled into her husband’s side 6 hours ahead of the New Jersey evening. They are both under a blanket, laser focused on Lio’s game. Emma wasn’t sure what was harder, to watch Lee’s games or not. But, it’s the only time they get to see him right now. The only way they know a sliver of what is going on in his life. Tonight is a rivalry game with the Rangers and these games are always intense. The same intensity existed when Timo and Nico were playing too.
“Ugh, can 14 stop doing that to Lio?” Emma mutters, crossing her arms over her chest. Connor’s D partner has his stick all up in Lio’s back and side. “How is that not a penalty?” She continues.
“It’s legal.” Timo shrugs. Emma glares. “What? It is…” He takes a sip of his water, licking his lips as they both focus back on the game.
The puck drops. Lio loses the face off and the play moves forward. The rubber disc deflects into a corner. Four players, two from each team, shift to the corner. Then BOOM! Emma and Timo startle forward watching Lio’s head hit the ice. Emma’s fingernails dig into her cheek where her hand is clasped over her mouth. With her other, she wildly reaches for Timo’s arm. He laces their fingers tightly together. His other hand comes to grab her shoulder in support.
“He is tough.” He reminds Emma. But it feels like a weak attempt at consolation.
Lio is still down, flat on his back, unmoving. Emma watches Connor over him, tapping his chest. Connor’s head turns to yell in the direction of the ref. The whistle is blown. Emma whimpers watching the Devils players collect by Lio.
“He isn’t okay.” Emma says to Timo. Her husband stays quiet, thinking the same thing she is. Him and Lee always talked about getting up for mama, if he could. Their son makes no movement even as the trainers come sliding towards him in their sneakers. Connor backs away from the group, giving the Devils room to watch over Lio. Emma throws the blanket off her body.
“Get me on a plane. Even if it’s private. Get me there, T.” Emma insists, rushing towards the stairs.
Timo was already on the phone before his wife got off the couch.
 - - -
Lucie’s eyes are on the ice below, but the images she sees are not making it to her brain for further processing. In her lap, Stella munches on a French fry, yelling every so often “go daddy!” whether Connor is on the ice or not. She still gets confused about the whole numbering system of sports teams. She thinks anyone in a Rangers uniform is her daddy.
“Uncle Lee?” Stella turns around, looking up at her mom. That is what has Lucie in trance. She keeps replaying the hit over and over and over again. David Carlson, Connor’s D partner, launched Lio into space. It was a clean hit- David didn’t even get a penalty- but Lio was unsteady as he got off the ice with help from the Devils trainer.
“He is in the locker room.”
“He come back?” Stella asks, looking back to the ice. “Daddy!” She squeals at his numbers. This time it really is Connor. Lucie wonders if he feels as sick as she does. When Lio laid sprawled on the ice, Connor immediately hit his knees to check on Lio, even as play continued. Tears had stung Lucie’s eyes at the gesture. He is still so angry at Lio; she doesn’t know how they will fix this. The hurt and shame still sting on Lucie’s skin now.
Lucie’s phone begins to ring in her back pocket. She shifts her weight and Stella to pull it out. She looks down at an unknown New Jersey number. She sends it to voicemail. Before she can put the phone back, the same number lights up her screen again. She clicks the green button.
“Hello?”
“Hey, is this Lucie Wood?”
“Yes. Who is this?”
“Mrs. Wood, I am Ben with the New Jersey Devils training staff. We have you listed as Lio Meier’s emergency contact. I was wondering if you are at the game tonight?” The crowd groans. Ben chuckles. “Sounds like it?”
“Yes, I am.”
“We need you to come downstairs and discuss Lio’s condition further. What section are you in? I can send a team representative up to see you.” Lucie’s heart begins to pound in her chest. She looks down at Stella as she reads off her section, row and seat number.
“I have my daughter with me…. Is… he…” Lucie isn’t sure how to finish her sentence. Conscious? Suffering? Ill?
“He is alert. We have someone here who can sit with your daughter if you would like.”
“Okay.” Lucie agrees and ends the call.
It takes five minutes before a representative comes for Lucie. The employee hands over a pass for her and Stella, then leads them to an elevator. They weave through the mid-game equipment chaos then knock on the external door to the training room. Presumably Ben opens the door.
“Lucie?” He extends a hand. They shake and he allows her to enter the room. Once inside, another representative is there with toys for Stella. Another door is to Lucie’s right. She can see a bed and two skate-less feet extending out. Lio. She has not seen or spoken to Lio since the night Connor kicked him out of their home in Switzerland. Lucie sets Stella down, asking her to stay still, then follows Ben into the room. Lio has his arm over a towel on his eyes.
“Lucie is here.” Ben speaks to Lio. Lio jumps, ripping the towel off fast, then muttering Swiss explicatives.
“Easy.” Lucie says to him in Swiss German.
“Lu, I’m fucked up.” He responds to her in their native tongue. She frowns, then steps forward to touch his sweaty arm. He moves his hand into hers and squeezes. Lucie purses her lips, tears beginning to build in her eyes. She looks at Ben. “What’s going on?”
“Lio has a concussion.” Ben begins with a sigh. “Concussions are testy injuries. As with most things involving the brain, there are some concerns. The biggest concern we have is Lio lost consciousness on the ice. His cognitive testing is a little delayed, but we aren’t seeing any flags for further imaging at this time. However, we have concerns about Lio being alone tonight.”
“I already told you, I can figure it out. Go stay at a neighbors.” Lio grumbles.
“Except you and I both know you’re not going to do that, Lio. If something happens to you, it’s my fucking ass.” Ben is clearly annoyed with Lio, like this is the fifth or tenth time he has explained these circumstances. Ben sighs again, running a hand over his face. “So, I need to send him home with someone. You are his emergency contact and although Lio begged me not to call you, I have to.”
“She has a kid here, man. She doesn’t need someone else to take care of. I’ll go home with one of the guys after the game.”
“I’ll take him home and stay the night with him.” Lucie insists.
“What?” Lio asks.
“Is there anything I need to watch for?” Lucie continues, ignoring Lio. They may be fighting, but Lucie loves him and couldn’t bare the thought of anything happening to him when she could have been there. It’s not how they were raised.
Ben nods and begins to talk to Lucie about concerning symptoms. He gives her his contact information along with the head doctor for the team. They exchange numbers so Ben can check in with Lucie. He wants Lio to stay away from screens for at least the next three days.
“What am I supposed to do?” Lio groans.
“Rest.” Lucie snaps at him. Lio stops complaining and arguing after hearing her tone.
“I’m going to grab a few things for him to take home.” Ben murmurs as he leaves the room. The period has ended and several guys poke their heads in. A different trainer barks at them to leave Lio be. They want to limit his interactions and stimulation right now.
Lucie is quiet next to Lio, still holding his hand. She looks down at their entwined fingers. Lio’s knuckles are red from rubbing against his gloves in the game. His sweat is beginning to dry but not his Under Armour.
“Alright. I’ve got some blue light glasses for him, an eye mask that will help block out any light, noise cancelling head phones, and some Excedrin headache.” Ben says, swinging back into the room.
“Okay. Um, Lio, I need to wait for Connor to give him Stell.” It’s an away game, technically, but hopefully the Rangers will allow Stella to go back on the bus with him, considering the circumstances. Lucie really isn’t worried about it. The Rangers are a supportive organization and Stella will have plenty of fun on the bus with Connor and David.
“I need to shower and change anyway. Might take me that fucking long.” He pulls the towel away from his eyes, instantly wincing at the light. Lucie turns to the light switch and flips it off. Lio sighs in relief. Lucie studies him as he slowly sits up. He sways a bit at the change in position.
“Lee…” She trails off. There is so much to say between them and now he is so clearly unwell.
“ ‘M fine, LuLu.”
“You aren’t.” Lio sits there, slumped forward, wrists hanging off his knees, eyes closed. He winces, then opens his eyes to look at Lucie.
“No, I guess I’m not.”
“Take it slow. I’m going to go back to watch the third with Stell. I’ll be back.”
The whole third period, Lucie ruminates over how she is going to approach this conversation with Connor. Her nervousness does not calm after the game when the Rangers lose in the final minute of the period to the Devils. Connor and David were on the ice when it happened. Connor almost saved it, but he was a second too late.
I need to see you before you get on the bus. Can you come to my seats? Lucie texts her husband.
Be right up, baby.
Connor climbs his way up the stairs to Lucie. Stella is watching TV on Lucie’s phone, but perks up when she sees Connor.
“Daddy!” She grins, reaching for him. Connor scoops her up, smooching her puckered lips.
“Hi baby!”
“You lost.” She frowns. “Uncle Lee won.”
“Yeah, he did.” Connor’s voice tightens. Despite what it is going on, they have done their best to keep Stella out of it, in the dark about what is going on because how could she understand any of this at three years old? “Hi hot mama,” Connor sighs as Lucie steps into his side for a hug. He leans down to kiss her too. “What’s up?”
“Um.” She starts, then stops, smoothing out Stella’s jersey for a second. She looks back into Connor’s awaiting blue eyes. “I need to go home with Lio tonight and stay with him.” Connor is visibly taken aback.
“What?”
“He is… not well.” She looks at Stella who watches her mama closely. Lucie needs to pick her words carefully. “And someone needs to stay with him to make sure he is okay.”
“And because Lio doesn’t have anyone it’s you?” Connor snarks back.
“Yeah, I guess.” Lucie sighs, stepping back from his embrace. Connor’s already cut jaw line gets sharper with the tension from his clenched teeth.
“Why did you agree to this without talking to me?”
“Because I couldn’t talk to you.” Lucie points to the ice. “I also didn’t feel like I could say no.”
“He can come over to our place then. We can… I don’t know.. take care of him together I guess.”
“We can’t do that because you don’t want him around Stell. You also want no part in helping him, so let’s just skip the idea of us taking care of him together.” Connor can’t argue with that.
“How are we going to get Stell home? Cause she is not going with you to Lio’s.”
“I don’t know, but maybe David could help figure that out since he is the one who knocked Lio out in the first place.” The deja vue falls between them, of a similar argument about a hit on Lio back with Lucie was pregnant with the little girl in Connor’s arms. It rocks Connor back on his feet a bit.
“Lu, I don’t wanna fight.”
“I didn’t either, but you brought us here.”
“I just… I don’t like it.”
“I don’t either, but I’m not leaving him alone.” Connor frowns deeper. “You know it isn’t right.” She continues. Her husband nods, biting at his bottom lip. A heavy sigh drops his big shoulders as he runs a hand through his still drying hair.
"I'll see you in the morning? You're coming home, yeah?” Lucie gives him a big, long loving kiss.
"Yes. You will see me in the morning. I love you.”
“I love you, Luc. So much.”
“I know. We are okay.” She insists, wrapping her arms around him. He buries his nose into her hair. Stella leans forward and kisses Lucie’s nose. “You are so cute. I also love you so, so much!”
“I see uncle Lee?”
“Not tonight, baby. He has an owie.” Stella gasps, covering her mouth with her little hand in concern. Lucie snort-chuckles.
“Tomorrow?”
“Mmm, I don’t know.” Lucie shakes her head.
“Okay. Tell him I miss him?” Lucie winces.
“You be good tonight for daddy. No fighting bed time. You had a big day today.” Lucie looks at her husband for confirmation that he is going to stick to bed time. He smiles. Lucie isn’t buying it. “Connor.”
“I know, baby.” He smirks, then pulls her up to her tip toes for another smooch.
They head down together to the underbelly of the arena. Connor and Stella go one way and Lucie goes the other towards the Devils locker room. She texts Lio and he joins her in the hallway ten minutes later.
“How is Stell getting home?” He asks. Lucie can see the sadness in his eyes that Stella was so close and he didn’t get to see her.
“On the team bus.”
“Poor Stell.” Lio chuckles. “Has to be surrounded by losers.” Lucie chuckles too.
“I won’t tell Con you said that.”
“Don’t. He hates me enough already.” Lucie awkwardly scrunches her forehead in response. Their foot steps lead them out of the arena and into the parking lot where Lio’s black Porsche awaits. Lucie helps him slide in then walks around to the driver’s seat.
“Lio!” A female voice calls out right before he shuts his door. Lio and Lucie both turn to see Savannah rushing towards his car. She doesn’t have a jacket on, but crosses her arms over her stomach at the chilly air weaving around her. “Oh good. You’re with Lucie.” Savannah smiles, reassured. She bites her lip nervously. “Um, I wanted to make sure you’re okay.”
“Been better.” Lio says quietly.
“I bet… Well, take care, okay? Don’t… push yourself or anything. Take it all slow.” Savannah shakes her head. Lucie glances between her and Lio, observing the obvious concern Savannah has for her cousin.
“Thanks, Sav.” Savannah lifts one corner of her mouth in a small smile.
“Nice to see you again.” She says to Lucie before slowly heading back into the arena.
It takes twice as long as normal for Lio to get into bed after a game. Between Lucie’s cautious driving, and the way the world swirls like he’s drunk, everything becomes difficult.
How is it going? Connor texts Lucie after she leaves Lio’s room.
It’s okay. He is loopy.
You okay?
Yes, I’m good. How is Stell? Is she asleep?
Mmm…. Yes… 👀
Seriously? 😐
On our way right now 🫡
Lucie sighs, tossing her phone onto the coffee table. She looks around Lio’s place. So many times she has sat in this spot on the couch with Lio and Connor. A million memories and good times and some awful ones too. But nothing has ever felt this heavy. The elephant in the room is cozy and imposing in the corner, looking like he is in no hurry to leave. What is she going to do? What if Lio needs more constant care than just tonight? Lucie isn’t sure she wants to sign up for that. Isn’t sure she is ready to have this impending conversation with him either.
Lucie grabs the remote, flipping on a late night talk show in hopes of it lulling her into sleep. An hour or so later, Lio comes shuffling out of bed. He doesn’t speak to her, but Lucie watches as he cautiously makes his way to the fridge. He refills his glass.
“I can help you with that.”
“It’s fine.” Lio insists.
Lucie shrugs, then goes back to watching the TV. A new band coming out of the U.K. plays an angsty ballet about a break up. Behind her, she can hear a glass being set on the counter.
“Luc?” Lio whispers.
“Hm?” Lucie asks, turning to look over the back of the couch at him.
“She isn’t pregnant. Never was.”
“Yeah I heard.” Lucie nods. Lio looks down, clearly becoming emotional.
“I love you. And Con. and Stell.” His voice cracks when he says her daughter’s name. “I’m really sorry about what I said that night. You were calling me out like you should have and I felt attacked, so I hit back.” Lucie nods. “I was wrong to say those things to you.”
“I accept your apology, Lio.” Lio nods to her words. He begins to shuffle his way slowly back to the hallway. But Lucie has more to say. “After you left, I talked to Connor about those conversations you and I had early in my pregnancy. I tried to defend you, but I probably made it worse. It’s partially my fault this is happening too. I should have talked to him way before now. You were advocating for me and my future when I was too paralyzed to know I had options.” Lucie purses her lips, dropping her eyes to her hands. “I should have told Connor about that before Stell was born. Before she became a living breathing person that is hard to separate from the grim reality of us being very, very young parents.”
“Lucie, you didn’t do anything wrong.” Lio sighs.
“Neither did you when you held my hand, sobbing in your car the night after we broke up. When you told me that we could do this. That you and I would do it if Con and I couldn’t.” Tear tracks curve down Lucie’s cheeks.
“I never meant you should get rid of Stell. Would I have supported you? Yes. Did I think that was the right choice for you? No. I didn’t. I thought you two would be amazing parents and could do it, despite the bricks stacked against you.”
“I know. That night, it was difficult to separate your behavior about your situation and ours. Even for me.” Lio nods, blinking slowly, trying to think of the next words to say. “You have always been my biggest fan. Always protected and guided me, especially at the times I didn’t want to be.” Lucie looks down again, forcing her top teeth into her bottom lip. “And life without you really, really sucks.”
“I hate this. I miss you so much, Luc.” Lio moves into the room, walking towards her to wrap her into a hug.
“I was so afraid tonight.” Lucie cries into his chest. “So scared that I wouldn’t get to say these things to you. That it would be worst case scenario and I would lose you forever.”
“I’m right here.”
“Me too.” She squeezes him harder.
Lio has felt so fucking alone for the last 6 weeks since he left Switzerland. So isolated from everyone he loves, who he thought loved him, but Lucie coming back feels like a single ray of sunshine piercing through the black night. He closes his eyes, ignoring the way the world sways until Lucie has to prevent them both from falling over by grabbing the arm of the couch.
“Okay, you need to get back to bed.” Lucie murmurs, adjusting so one of his arms hangs across her shoulders.
“If I wake up and this is a dream, I’m gonna be pissed.” Lio mumbles.
“Not a dream.” She assures him. “I’ve got you, Lee.”

side order is here!!! its real!!! yippee
what do you think of it so far?
ok so im just gonna spit out all my side order thoughts so far
SPOILERS FOR SIDE ORDER AHEAD!!!!!!
EDIT: I ACTUALLY FINISHED THE GAME WOOO (just one run tho lol) im gonna write my thoughts under the previous stuff
OK SO. i think im a little..? dissapointed..? abt sider order?? like im kinda conflicted abt the lore, also i suck BALLS at the game
the thing is i have done 5 runs so far AND COULDNT GET A SINGLE WIN. the most i can do is up to floor 20.... im literally so bad at this game I ONCE DIED 2 TIMES IN AN EASY LEVEL. im newgen guys.
maybe im not fit for rougelike games but like... idk. i feel like me and the fandom as a whole expected so much more from side order. i feel like if the game is gonna make you replay the same stuff over and over again it should atleast have a SOUL CRUSHING LITERARY MASTERPIECE TYPE OF LORE like OE and Alterna
AND CAN WE TALK ABOUT HOW DIRTY THEY DID FOUR???? literally called them an irrelavent loser and then sweeped them aside... THEY DONT EVEN HAVE A PALETTE ICON???? theyre not even a secret boss smh.... agent 4 had so much potential I WILL NEVER FORGIVE NINTENDO FOR THIS. and like sure the parallel canon level kind of includes four but that thing is literally an npc??? like imagine what they couldve done with the story if they had included four in it:
when four is left out from the squidbeak splatoon they try to prove themselves by siding with marina with her project. it makes perfect sense. marina and four are both scared of being seperated by their loved ones. but four gets consumed by their anger and jealousy and goes full order mode LIKE DO YOU GUYS SEE MY VISION!!!! i will be forever mad that we didnt get this.
also why is murch out of all the chracters have a pallete??? why didnt they put in captain 3 or something????? sheldon i kinda understand since hes also kinda a part of the squidbeak splatoon BUT MURCH??? get the fuck out!!!
negative stuff aside tho. i love pearl and marina so much. THIS IS THE PEARLINA GAME GUYS!!!!! pearl literally mentions that marina and her sleep in the SAME BED???? marina is so autistic. my little autism creature. SHE MAKES DINO ARMS IN THE ENDING SCENE AUGHHHHHGHHH MY HEARTTT i love marina so much AND PEARL. SUCH A SILLY GOOBER. acht is so precious too... BUT I CNAT BELIEVE THAT THEY MADE THEM WHITE*??? ACHT IS NOT WHITE NINTENDO. anyways i love eight and her little found family full of lesbians. they are all lesbians your honor. we are raising lesbians in this house.
so yeah. i hope i can finish the run atleast ONCE. but like. idk i havent finished the game but side order jsut makes me feel. sad... and lonely...?? unlike octo expension where you could see more and more people using the metros and the chatrooms between marina and pearl are just AUUGGHHH OE IS A GAME. ABOUT CONNECTIONS OK. it makes me feel warm and happy and even though eight became traumatized i like to think that she healed and in the process met so many important people in her life.
in side order i dont see anything in eight*??? is she traumatized??? is she vibing??? is she happy to help??? I LITERALLY CANT TELL. side order makes me feel so cold and empty like do you guys understand what i mean. and its probably becasue it doesnt even take place in the real world. and the thing is. i understand that side order is supposed to be everything that OE couldnt be. i understand that. both games have their own quirks BUT. i just cant seem to make myself love it unlike any other story mode in splatoon...... im really trying to be not biased here but yeah. these are my opinions for side order
AFTER GAME THOUGHTS
HELLO. so yes i somehow managed to win the game. and honestly. the final boss was pretty fun and everyone was so cute at the end omg... but i still think that side order is a bit underdevloped.... i dont even know if ill try to %100 is cuz playing it makes me SO STRESSFUL im glad i get to finish a run BUT i will definetly not be touching side order atleast for a while.... but despite i had plenty of stuff i didnt like in side order the ending managed to make me forget all that haha

Val! I have a cute one for your prompt game.
From you Cute Interactions list
FaceTiming each other + blowing them a kiss.
PLOT TWIST— Steve is out and Honey and Honey Bee are calling him.
(Maybe we can even have a version with peanut and Sugar?”)🤭
I love this!
And I’ll do both of them!!
FaceTime
Steve’s mission had been extended and he hated it. He’d already been out for four days and now it seemed like he’d be out another five. The only thing Steve was grateful for was that this mission allowed communication with others back home. So he got to see his girls at least once a day.
Steve was back in his room for the night. He was freshly showered and changed, giddy as he sat down in bed and grabbed his phone. He’d never really been one for technology but now he was so grateful for the advances that now allowed him to FaceTime you. Your smiling face popped up. The two of you talked for a few minutes. Steve telling you how much he couldn’t wait to be home and you telling him how much you missed him.
“Look who I have here, eager to talk to her daddy.” You say as you turn to phone.
Next to you on the bed is honeybee kicking her feet and cooing. Her eyes widen when she sees her daddy on screen.
She coos and babbles for a few seconds.
“Is that right my honeybee? Are you keeping mama company?”
There’s some more babbling in response.”
“I love you bee.” Steve says before you turn the camera towards yourself. “I love you too honey.”
“We love you more. Come back safe ok?”
“Yes ma’am. I’ll see you soon.” Steve says and hangs up. He sighs as he replays his little girl’s animated face over and over. He smiles because he can’t believe how lucky he is to have everything he ever wanted.
***********************
It was rare that you went out on missions anymore but someone how were in the same mission Steve was on. Now you were told that the mission had been extended. It was making you anxious because you’d never been away from the kids this amount of time in a while. Especially your little peanut. You’d never been away from them except for a few hours so you were struggling to adjust.
Fortunately you were able to call home which you did often. The call rang a few seconds before you saw Bucky’s face and then Henry and Lottie behind him. You gave him the knees about the extended mission and then turned your attention towards the kids.
“And here’s peanut.” Bucky holds up your youngest. Their face lights up the moment they see you.
“Hi my baby. Are you having fun with daddy?” You get babbling as a response.
You and Bucky talk for another few minutes before you’re saying your goodbyes.
“Blow mama a kiss, peanut.” Bucky says.
Mmmaw, you hear along with a small lip smack. Peanut seems very proud about pulling that off.
“Oh my baby you’re already blowing kisses. You’re growing up so fast.” You smile. “I love you.”
“Say love you mama.” Bucky says and your little peanut babbles. “That’s right we do love her so much and want her to come back safe.”
“I love you too baby.”
“Love you, Sugar. Come back in one piece.” You smile, blow him a kiss and hang up.
You couldn’t wait to get home.

hi just wanted to say that i’m terribly in love with the crème-verse, it’s been on my mind since i first found it four years ago. i’ve replayed all the games countless times and i am SO HYPED for honour bound - it ticks all the boxes of what i love to see in media. i just wanted to ask if the visible stat indicators will still be an option when the game is fully released? they really help me focus on the story and characters without having to pick through the finer nuances of the choices 😅
Oh gosh, I really appreciate that. Thank you so much and I'm so excited that you're looking forward to Honor Bound!
I will be leaving the stat indicators in as an option, yes. It'll be the same setup where you can set them on or off before starting the game, or toggle back and forth in the stat page.
Thank you for the ask!

Do the boys have personality’s that they prefer? Like if you have a certain personality will it be easier to raise their affection? Playing the demo it seemed that they responded a little differently to each personality type. (And yes I did replay it 4 times to get all the dialogue 🫣 seriously can’t wait for this game!!)
I briefly touched on this in another ask, but no they have no preference! Other than what attributes your MC starts with, there is no advantage to the personalities so befriending or romancing the guys isn’t any easier or harder.
The guys only react differently because the Seasonal MC’s are different! Let’s use a Winter MC and a Summer MC as an example because their differences are pretty stark. A Winter MC doesn’t like making a big deal of things and they also don’t react much. On the other hand, a Summer MC would readily speak their mind and be reactive.
So if someone like Percy were to start flirting with a Winter MC, they would either bluntly accept his flirting or ignore him. They are, after all, not so easily fazed regardless of how they feel about him. Seeing that, however, would make Percy cheekier because he wants a reaction. He’d think to quip back with something scandalous. But like I said, Winters are a tough nut to crack— so he’ll eventually give up if they don’t give him anything or gloat if they do.
However, a Summer MC has a shit ton of confidence so we determined that they would straight up tell him off or challenge him right back! Unlike Winter, Summers are actively engaging with Percy in this situation and so there’s an immediate back and forth. And since Summers don’t give up easily and Percy’s always willing to push the limit with them, their conversation can be bolder and more heated than the almost one-sided convo with Winter.
That being said, in the grand scheme of the game, those two interactions can be summed up as:
Percy flirted with MC
MC responded
Percy flirted back harder
MC wins/gives up
Ultimately, nothing different haha
It’s more tedious on our end but I wanted the cast to react to MC as a person and not just by their choices. Different season personalities help us do that because not only are we inserting the player into the game, we’re slotting you in as a character with established dynamics.
I mean, you wouldn’t bat an eye if a friend who talks flirty, talks flirty. But if a friend who doesn’t, suddenly does, that would require a reaction or a response, right?
It’s the same principle!
Even if the guys just met you for the first time, they can pick up on cues. So if you’re coming at them with spice then they’ll react accordingly! And if you don’t then of course they shouldn’t act as if you did.
~*~*~*
Phew— I wrote a bit there but I hope that makes sense! And although a good chunk of the game unravels differently based on your season, I hope you guys don’t get caught up in the differences. >~<
We will always make sure each seasonal interaction is new but equal, and if we don’t immediately correct that then there will be something later on to finally balance it.
The last thing we want is to give players the impression that you have to “act” a certain way to be worthy of love. So long as you’re making choices with good intentions, the boys will love you regardless of how you present yourself.
And that’s that!
Scifjsjdhrjehehdhw thank you for playing the demo four different times! I hope you had fun finding all the variations and that they were worth it ^^

I’m curious, do you have a favorite video game?
…j-just one? (;w;)
I am chronically indecisive, I always have a top 10, top 20, etc etc and gaming is no exception!
If I absolutely had to pick just one… it might have to be Cave Story by Studio Pixel. Regardless of what platform I play it on, every time it’s an incredible experience that I never get tired of!
That being said, my Favorite Game of All Time probably changes depending on what day you ask me tbh so here’s some that come to mind right away:
Sonic Unleashed is easily my favorite 3D Sonic (tho Frontiers is up there) and is a good contender here, but maybe not quite as high as some of these other games.
Terraria was a huge game in my life for a period of years, I think I have a total of 3000+ hours logged on Steam? Easily one of my most replayable games.
The Marvel’s Spider-Man series on PS4/5 is just ough SO good, I can’t leave it off this list
I’d be loathe to forget Pikmin on this list, so I’ll mention Pikmin 2 for Wii, but it’s more of an honorable mention.
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and The Minish Cap are always a duo in my mind, and definitely my favorite Zelda games. I’ve replayed Minish Cap alone at least four times, plus a 100% run, very replayable!
Yes I’m cheating and putting 3-as-1 but they’re so closely related to me I can’t separate one from the next; I’m talkin EarthBound, MOTHER 3, and Undertale. All three life-changing RPGs from absolutely genius minds.
Last honorable mention: The entirety of the Ace Attorney series (namely 1-4) and Doki Doki Literature Club! have altered my brain chemistry forever and they deserve to be on this list if only in spirit.

Basic Stuff
I'm a freak by many a name. But I go by Soda, Cece, Admin, Ary, Xefros, Sol and Rezi mostly. Seriously. Any of those will do. Hell, I'll take new names aswell. Drop them name recommendations lmao
I'm 14 aswell, in Year 10. (I chose Triple Science, French and History if you wanted to know about my GCSE choices.)
I'm a lesbian and agender, which basically is me saying my gender changes for when it's funniest.
I use ALLLL the pronouns, even xenos and neos because I am badass and awesome. Literally anything goes.
I'm Scottish and Irish. Which is kinda cool, means I burn hella easy though which sucks ass.
I'm also autistic, I like to post about that.
I also also have depression and anxiety, I don't really care though because I'm balling 24/7 B)
Tumblr media
Interests & Likes
Obvious is obvious but I'm a massssive Homestuck. That is primarily what I post/reblog. This includes Hiveswap/Hauntswitch
I also enjoy Pokémon. A lot. Like... 2200 hours on Ultra Sun alone enjoy.
Youkai Watch is also a big fav of mine. In fact, Youkai Watch 3 is one of my favourite games of all time!
I absolutely ADORE A Hat in Time! It is THE game for me. It means the world and everything to me.
Alongside AHIT, Undertale and Deltarune are some of my favs ever! (I don't cry everytime I replay UT what do you mean?)
In general, I'm a total loser for vidya. I can do a quick rundown of the gaems I like but probably won't be reblogging often
Crash Bandicoot
Kleptocats
Gmod
Sonic
Papa's -rias
FNAF
Animal Crossing
Half Life
Persona 5
I don't often watch many series or movies. But there's a special place in my heart for Invader Zim, The Owl House, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Eddsworld and My Little Pony. I'm also super excited for the new Scott Pilgrim show :D
It's strange to say but I have a keen interest in reality shows. This means Gogglebox, Come Dine with Me, Four in a Bed, Kitchen Nightmares (both versions) and Impractical Jokers. Only the lord knows why. I think it's the autism. It's probably the autism.
I'm a fan of Pretty Cure aswell! Those girls are so beegitful <3 in those dresses... Yes I found out about it through Glitter Force but that doesn't change anything. Another anime I also love is Pop Team Epic that show irreversibly changed my sense in humour.
I also adore!!! Vocaloid it literally makes up 50% of my music taste. I black out and wake up with 20 new pieces of miku merch lmao
Tumblr media
Music
I have a lot of different music interests! But my all time favourite band ever is Qbomb! I adoreeeee them to infinity. I literally don't know what my favourite Qbomb song is because they're all so good.
But! Qbomb doesn't have my fav song, that honour goes to Stacked Like Pancakes and their song SFDD. It's a really high energy ska song that I recommend highly. (You won't regret listening to it!)
Instead of just listing my spotify stats here, I'm gonna just get some images of those funky websites instead :)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Obviously this isn't completely accurate since this is from my entireeee spotify history. But it's basically all there!

The Moon and Sun (Big Sib Reader x Gon/Killua)
Chapter 2: Toughen Up Kids!
Synopsis: In return for letting you sleep, Bisky requests you help with Gon and Killua's training. Much to your own dismay, you begin to soften up a little.
Fun Fact #2: Y/n's nen ability stems from their fast reflexes and silent steps. Can you guess what it is?
"Ahh!!! I think we killed them!" Gon panicked as your body collapsed backwards.
"They're not dead, they're just sleeping you dummy," Killua scolded.
"Are you sure?"
"They're still breathing, look."
Sure enough, there was a gentle rise and fall of your chest. You'd collapsed flat on your back, limbs starfished out with your mouth closed. It was no wonder Gon thought you looked like a corpse.
"It's best to let them rest for now," Bisky sighed. She'd have to get her answers from you later. Still, it was strange someone that young possessed such a developed nen ability. She looked over your sleeping body. The bags under your eyes were big and looked almost painful. She was surprised they weren't bloodshot. You were asleep, yes, but there wasn't one sound from you. Not even a snore.
Very odd indeed.
"Alright! Back to training you two!"
---------------------------------
The first thing you noticed upon waking up was that your sleep hadn't been interrupted. It was the first time in a long while that you had a dreamless slumber. An even longer time since your body felt properly rested.
The second thing you noticed was the sound of scissors in the distance.
And the last thing you noticed were various spikes of aura. All familiar.
You begrudgingly got up as memories of the previous night replayed. You'd met three kids, well two kids and a very young looking lady. The four of you had run into a bounty hunter.
You looked down from the cliff you'd collapsed on. Sure enough, there was Gon and Killua along with Binolt. They were fighting the scissor wielding psycho, however their aura was anything but scared .
They were determined.
And both of them were stronger.
How had they gained so much strength in just one night?
"You're finally awake." You recognized the voice as Bisky's.
She sat a few feet away from you. There were two stones placed on the ground in front of her. Weird.
"Two days of rest and you still have those bags under your eyes." You gave a small frown.
"Two days? What do you mean I've been asleep for two days?" Sure you'd been up for three, but sleeping for two whole days??? Without nightmares waking up?
But it made sense, didn't it. The two boys could've gotten stronger in two days instead of one night. However, you'd never slept that long. You were never comfortable enough to do so.
"I said two days didn't I? Don't worry, I made sure the boys wouldn't bother you while you rested. They thought you died." Amusement shone through her eyes.
You glanced down once again at the duo. They were almost as fast as Binolt now. They were also taking turns fighting him. It was only a matter of time before they'd completely outclass him. Which begs the question....
"Why are they fighting? Aren't you worried Binolt might hurt them?" It wasn't any of your business. Hell, you shouldn't even be staying to have a chat. You should've said your thanks and left.
But a part of you wanted to see where this went.
And you did live here, after all. They'd just run into you again anyways.
"It's part of their training. Which by the looks of it, is going very well. They've still got about 2 weeks left. The way things are going, they'll surpass his level in six days."
"A bit messed up to make them fight against a serial killer dont'cha think?"
"Please, if they can't handle him, what hope do they have to beat this game." Bisky had a point. A messed up one, but a point nonetheless.
"Since I did you a favor by guarding your body, I think it's only right you return it." You were caught off guard by her words and gave a small glare.
"I would've been fi-"
"And I did beat Binolt for you, soooo...."
She was one of those was she.
So be it, it's not like you were busy at the moment.
"Fine. What did you have in mind?"
"Number 1: I want some answers from you. And Number 2: You're gonna help me with the boys' training. Got it?"
She must think you're some big shot hunter if she wants you to train those kids. Oh how wrong she is.
"Sure, be my guest." Bisky smiled sweetly at your answer.
"Good, very good. So first off, just who was your nen teacher?"
You visibly tensed.
"My, uh, my teacher?"
"Yes, the one who opened up your aura nodes. They must be someone strong to have taught you a very refined ability. So who are they?"
You looked like a deer in headlights, eyes looking everywhere except Bisky. Then all the tension drained from you at once.
"Didn't have one of those, sorry."
"What do you mean you didn't have one!?!? Then who taught you how to use nen!?!?" Bisky yelled, clearly unsatisfied with your answer.
"No one."
"No one?" She was not buying your bullshit. And you couldn't blame her.
"You just magically woke up with your nen, is that what you're telling me???"
You feebly nodded, the less they knew the better.
"Fine, fine. Next question then. What type of hunter are you?"
You didn't tense this time, but your answer was still unsatisfactory.
"I'm not a hunter."
Bisky almost threw a fit. "What do you mean you're not a hunter!???!! Are you kidding me?????" Her outburst caused the two boys and man to look over.
She glared right back at them.
"WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU'RE STARING AT!!! GET BACK TO TRAINING!!!!!"
It would have been comical if her anger wasn't also directed at you.
"It's not such a big deal." You tried to soothe.
"But it is!!! You have incredible nen and with just a smidge of polishing, you could be an incredible hunter!!! Instead you're just wasting your potential and it's driving me mad!!!!"
"Being a hunter isn't for me, and I've decided to stick with that. Sorry if that's not what you wanted to hear, but that's how it is. It's not gonna change anytime soon." You sat in a somewhat defensive position, arms draped over your bent knees with your head leaned down to hide your expression.
"Okay, then there's just one last question I want to ask you. Just one more and I won't question you anymore about your ability and how you got it. Sound fair?"
You nodded reluctantly from your position.
"How old are you? That specific ability you possess, the ability to see aura without gyo, it takes even the strongest nen users decades to learn. And based on your appearance you seem fairly young. So I'll ask again, how old are you?"
That one you could answer comfortably.
"19 ish, maybe 20."
"YOU DON'T KNOW YOUR OWN AGE!!?????"
-------------------------------------
Six days. You'd been watching the boys train for about six days now. Their power had skyrocketed in such a short amount of time as had their speed.
It'd also been six days since you decided to stay. Company was foreign to you. It's not often you would hold conversations, usually opting for one worded responses if you really had to talk. Maybe a few sentences if you were feeling spicy.
You'd never spoken this much. (Well you hadn't for a decade) And it was putting a strain on your throat. But despite the scratchy feeling, you couldn't seem to care.
Not as you responded to Bisky when she would make small talk, and not as you barked out corrections to the boys.
As far as you were concerned, the pain wasn't there.
There were a few things you noticed as the boys fought.
Gon was most likely an enhancer, choosing to bottle up energy in his fist and releasing it when he punched.
Smart, but not as efficient as he thought it was. It took too long for him to charge up, and you'd told him as much. Did he listen?
"I'll work on it!" He shouted as he dodged one of Binolt's scissors.
Another thing you noticed: Killua seemed to be an emitter. There were moments, very brief moments, when electricity would flow from his finger tips. But he would decide against it last second. When you suggested he try his ability out, what did he say?
"I don't need to, I can beat him just fine without it!"
Boys. Stubborn until they were proven wrong.
------------------------------------------------------------
By sundown, Binolt had quit. He'd had enough of the relentless attacks and knew he was no longer a challenge for the boys. He left, with the promise of turning himself in and changing for the better.
The boys were happy to be finished with that part of their training, Bisky however, had other plans.
"You're up Y/n."
You snapped your head up.
"I’m up? What do you mean by that?"
"It's your turn to train them. Think of something will ya," Bisky patted your shoulder and jumped down towards the 'training' area. She turned back to look at you.
"C'mon, they don't bite."
You let out a groan before jumping down. Goddamnit, it had to be you. To be fair, you did agree to this.
"Since you two have finished Lesson One early, Y/n's gonna take over for the remainder of the two weeks." Bisky addressed the duo.
"Sounds good to me, I hope they'll put up a good fight," Killua said. You looked over to the other boy. He was practically glowing with excitement.
"I'm ready whenever you are!"
The circles under your eyes seemed to have darkened.
"Yeah, that's not gonna happen." There was no way in hell you were gonna fight two children for a whole week.
"HUH!???" All three of them exclaimed in unison.
"We agreed you'd help train them! You can't just back out!" You covered your ears to protect them from Bisky's scolding.
"Yeah, yeah. I said I would, but I'll do it my way, okay?"
The older woman pouted. She probably wanted to see what else you could do with your nen. Surprise! Fighting wasn't one of them.
"Okay, you two," you pointed at both the boys. "You each get three tries to hit me. If you can't land a single blow, you owe me 100 pushups, got it?" Bisky thumped you on the back of your head.
"You're being too easy on them. It should be 1,000 pushups for each shot they miss."
"Fine a thousand for each shot, I don't really care," you muttered.
Gon raised his hand. You almost laughed at the action, unprepared for how serious he was taking this. So you really were a teacher now, huh?
"Yes, Gon?"
"Should we attack you together or one on one?"
This time you smirked.
"Do what you think is best." If they attacked together, things would go by a lot faster. If they attacked separately, they'd have a stronger chance to develop their techniques.
They eventually decided to fight separately.
"I'll go first," Killua said as he approached you. "This won't take long."
You could see the small assassin's aura change from calm to confident. His nen spiked as he took a fighting stance. Your aura remained the same, body appearing unguarded. Your stance was relaxed, hands in your pockets.
"Begin."
Killua walked slowly around you, producing an after image. The technique would have worked on an ordinary nen user, but your eyes were were far too sharp to fall for that. You could clearly see which version of him was real, his dark aura giving him away.
Why was it so dark? A family of assassins, was it? Just what did they do to this kid?
He lunged forward suddenly, fist clenched and ready to hit you. His movement occuring in only a few seconds, damn he was fast.
"Gotcha!" Killua exclaimed. But that victorious grin was wiped off his face. You were gone. You were right there, he could have sworn he hit you. But there was nothing in front of him. Not even a trace of nen.
Yes he was fast, but not nearly enough to even graze you. You'd taken two steps to the side, white hair whizzing past you. He turned sharply, catching you from his peripheral once his attack missed.
Blue eyes widened with shock staring into your relaxed ones.
"One. Two attempts left."
"How did-??!!! What even-???!!! You didn't even use nen!!!"
Killua's shock was shared by the other two. Gon couldn't believe you'd been fast enough to dodge Killua while Bisky was surprised you hadn't used an ounce of nen. Your move had been sheer will of the body.
"If I used my nen to dodge, you wouldn't be able to see my movements. I'm trying to teach, remember? Plus it's no fun if I go all out."
"And what exactly are you trying to teach?!?!" The white haired boy snapped. His aura switched to embarrassed. Apparently Killua didn't like to be showed up. Or maybe it was because he was regretting his earlier choice of words.
"I'm trying to teach you that even though you beat Binolt, there's always gonna be another hurdle to climb. There's always gonna be someone stronger. So you shouldn't get all cocky when you face a new opponent. That and appearances can be deceiving. Because I look like I can barely stand, you thought I'd be an easy win. Am I right?"
Wow look at you. You're actually giving decent advice. Kari would be proud.
"Tch, whatever," Killua grumbled. "Let's just keep going." He met your gaze again, determination once again shining through.
"This time I won't miss."
"I'm counting on it."
-----------------------------------------------------------
Killua did in fact miss that shot and the next.
He tried to fake you out on his second attempt. He rushed at you from behind, then skirted to your front, leg outstretched for a sweep. But you'd jumped back last second, landing on your hands with your legs up in the air, narrowly avoiding Killua's.
His final attempt was the closest to connecting. He'd actually used his emitter ability. He went in for another punch, pulling his arm back, then sparks emerged from his finger tips. You dodged to the left, not realizing you'd moved right where he wanted you. The electricity vanished and you felt his presence behind you. He was centimeters away from landing a solid punch against your back.
But you were petty, and you didn't want Bisky nagging you, so you made a choice. Nen flowed from your body at last. You pushed it towards your legs in a second.
One second, one millimeter, one move to your right and Killua had missed.
"AHHH COME ON!!! YOU WERE RIGHT THERE!!!!!"
You let yourself laugh at the boy's outburst. Ah to crush a child's dreams, there's nothing quite like it.
"You cheated!"
You put your hands up defensively.
"Me??? Cheat??? I would never."
"Yes you did, you used nen!"
"I never said I wouldn't. Whatever gave you that impression?" Your eyes twinkled with mischief.
"You know what, you suck!" Killua stuck his tongue out at you. You gasped in feign hurt.
"My feelings, oh how you wound me!"
Another first in a long while, you were laughing. You were messing around and actually having fun.
"Okay, okay, enough teasing. Gon, you're up."
The boy in green shot up excitedly. His eyes also determined. The aura around him was much lighter than Killua's. It was erratic and jittery with a dash of innocence. Everything a child's aura should have been. And yet there was a hint of something darker underneath.
"Begin."
Immediately, the young boy poured all his nen into his fist. He dashed from side to side, trying to figure out where you would move to dodge. Whereas Killua had been cautious with his movements, Gon seemed to work on impulse.
He jumped up and released the nen from his hand. He didn't need to be up close to strike you, and he knew that. He also knew it would be harder for you to dodge if two attacks came for you at once.
Dodging the first attack was easy. You jumped to your left, but before you could properly stabilize your footing his second attack came. He was at your side, another punch charged up.
Goddamnit, looks like you'd have to use your nen again.
You pushed your nen towards your legs once again and surged forward. Three quick steps, and you had barely managed to miss Gon's fist. His nen grazed your back as you moved forward.
One Attempt Left.
"Damn, I thought I had you!" Gon was gripping the side of his head, whether it was out of frustration or confusion, you'd never know.
"See, it's not that easy after all!" Killua shouted from his place next to Bisky. Gon was pouting as he turned to his friend.
"I know, but I was sooo close!"
"Almost doesn't count, kiddo," you chided. The boy turned to face you, an even bigger pout on his face.
"Hmmm." His eyes squinted in thought.
He was such a boy, you thought with a soft grin.
"Don't think too hard or you'll hurt yourself."
All of a sudden, Gon perked up.
"Got it!" And then he vanished. Your amusement was replaced by seriousness. Your eyes moving to locate him. And just when you were able to pinpoint his position, about five big ass boulders were launched your way.
He was using projectiles??? The thought hadn't crossed your mind that he could.
It would have been a fantastic plan, it really would have. But unfortunately for Gon, you already had his location pinned down. It didn't matter what he threw or how much dust was kicked up, your eyes could see his aura just fine.
You could see it dash side to side, trying to find an opening. He jumped above the dust, unaware that you knew of his plan. He was trying to charge his attack discreetly.
Then you saw the spark of nen trail down: he landed , and he was likely getting ready to charge you.
"NOW!" He ran towards you, chosing to attack from the front. He punched with everything he had (overkill much????). The dust cleared immediately with the release of his nen.
He felt his fist connect.
He had done it!!!!!!
Then his wide grin disappeared as quickly as it came.
What he actually hit was one of the boulders he threw. Damn! But where did you go???? He felt a tap on his back and screamed.
"AHHH!"
"Calm down." You stood behind Gon. He looked up at you shocked.
"You dodged that?!?!? But how!?!? There's no way-" You cut the boy off with a point towards your eyes.
"I can see, remember?"
"Aww man, I forgot about that."
You gave a crooked smile, about to comfort him, when Bisky spoke up.
"Alright boys! That makes 3000 pushups each!"
The duo let out a groan of disapproval.
"Goddamnit!"
-----------------------------------------
As a treat for doing so well, Bisky decided to take the boys to Masadora. (You being forced to go along as a guide)
She asked you to lead them to a card shop. You had chosen the same one from your previous visit. The NPC there greeted you.
"Welcome back!" You gave a feeble wave. Man what was happening to you, you were never this friendly.
The boys went off to look at the cards, while Bisky was looking for tools to help them train. It was a brief visit, much to Gon and Killua's dismay.
Bisky had bought two shovels and a wheelbarrow. It didn't take a genius to figure out what she was planning.
She was gonna make those boys work.
"Let's head back to Masadora now!" Bisky ordered. "But this time, we go in a straight line." Oh she was evil indeed.
"You don't mean," Killua said after putting two and two together. Bisky's smile was catty as she responded.
"I do! It's time to start digging!!!" Evil, absolutely evil.
You loved it.
---------------------------------------
They worked all day, picking away at solid rock until they had a tunnel. And even when they collapsed from exhaustion, Bisky wouldn't let them rest.
She made a makeshift pully out of rope. Having the boys hold onto the end while a rock was suspended over them. If they let go, the rock would fall on them.
"Keep part of your brain on hight alert, even when you're sleeping!" She was diabolical.
Killua seemed to have no trouble, which was concerning.
And Gon was struggling, which was concerning.
Both for different reasons, but concerning nonetheless.
You sat across from them watching as both nodded off. Killua's grip on the rope was unwavering. Good for him, but also bad. Why did he seem almost used to this? It was upsetting.
Gon's grip however, was loosening. He was fighting to stay awake. Eyes struggling to stay open, he relaxed his grip causing the rock to fall.
"OWW!" He jumped up and grasped the back of his head.
"Oh and one more thing, if the rock drops, you have to put it back up again. I'll also be increasing the size as we go on," Bisky added.
So there went Gon, trying to stay awake so he wouldn't get hit. You made sure Bisky was asleep before kicking a pebble in his direction.
He snapped awake, readjusting his hold on the rope, and shot you a questioning look. You put a finger to your lips, signaling him to be quiet.
Why were you helping him??? You should let him learn the hard way. But there was a part of you that felt bad. You knew what it was like to fight off sleep, and this was a kid who clearly needed it.
What was happening to you
You gestured to the rope and then his hand. You pointed to your own and let nen flow through it. Gon seemed to understand and did the same.
Then you pointed to your head and repeated the action. Gon let nen surround his head. One last time, you gestured to the rope and made an opening gesture.
You wanted him to let go while his head was guarded. He was weary, but followed through.
The rock didn't hurt this time. In fact, there wasn't any pain at all. He beamed at the realization.
As long as he protected his head, he'd be able to sleep. You gave a thumbs up as a 'you're welcome.'
What you didn't realize was that you'd inadvertently thought him Ko, and because he was Gon, he'd taught Killua.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bisky, was teaching the boys several new nen techniques. Some of which you knew well, and some you'd never heard of. Safe to say, you were all learning something.
It'd been around three months since you decided to stay. And in that time you'd grown use to using your voice. You'd become use to Gon and Killua's friendly bickering. And you'd grown use to being comfortable.
You, Bisky, and Killua gathered around Gon as he tried to perfect his technique. He had based it on rock-paper-scissors because why not.
"Show me rock! Jan-Ken-Rock!!!" The boulder disintegrated at his punch. Impressive, had he tried to hit you with that earlier, you might've been seriously hurt.
"Okay, next up! Show me rock! Jan-Ken-Paper!" And nothing happened this time.
"Bisky, how do I make my nen fly?"
You practically doubled over in laughter, god that was adorable.
"Train more," was the little woman's response. Gon pouted.
"Y/n how do I make my nen fly?" You had to grab onto Killua for support, wheezing at the other boy's naivety.
"You can't just ask Y/n when you're stuck, that's cheating!" Killua scolded. You finally put yourself back together, wiping away stray tears.
"Okay, okay, give me a sec. Whew! Okay, so you wanna shoot your nen out right. You've got to make sure when you release it, it's not just you letting go because then you're just dispersing it instead of shooting. Make sense? You have to fire, not let go. You'll get the hang of it, eventually."
"But how do I do that?"
"Through hope and prayer." Bisky thumped you on the back of your head.
"You're just as bad as the children."
Killua cleared his throat to gain everybody's attention. Aww, he wanted to show you all something.
Sparks emitted from his finger tips, then through the rest of each hand. So this was what he was hiding. Very impressive, and had you been hit with that attack, you probably would’ve been temporarily paralyzed.
"This is all I've got right now, but if I charge it up it's pretty strong." He looked very pleased with himself.
"That's awesome Killua!!! You're like an electric eel!!!"
"Awful analogy," the other boy grumbled.
You erupted in another fit of laughter. An eel. You'd have to use that at some point.
"See?!? Now you've set them off again!!!!"
"But eels are cool!!!"
The death of you, these boys were going to be the death of you.
-------------------------------------------------------------
For what seemed like the fifth time, the four of you went to Masadora to find out how to leave the game. It was in order to send Killua on his way to take the hunter exam.
"Are you sure you don't wanna come, Y/n? The hunter exam isn't hard, you'd be able to pass easy." Killua offered.
"Yeah, and then all four of us can be Hunters!" Gon cheered.
You let out a small sigh.
"I appreciate the offer, but it's like I told Bisky. Being a hunter isn't for me. You have fun though." Have fun??? What were you 50?????
-------------------------------------------
You, Gon, and Bisky continued on with the training. It was going well.
But then you'd felt something.
A presence was heading fast towards the three of you.
"What's wrong?" Bisky questioned. You pointed forward as another familiar face landed. You stood in front of Gon, arms crossed.
What, did Genthru get tired of recruiting people by himself?
"Abengane, was it? Your business here?" Your tone was once again icy. He stared at you wearily, then examined the rest of your small group.
His aura was riddled with fear. Strange.
"You decided to pair up with these guys, that's good. And I can see one of them is missing."
There was an ominous aura over his shoulder. It looked like a timer, and it reeked of bloodlust.
"What's that thing on your shoulder?"
"What happened to you?" You and Bisky spoke at the same time.
"The bomber got us. Just hear me out, I've got something to say."
-----------------------------------
Abengane went on to explain that Genthru was indeed the bomber and had devised a plan to kill the other players if they didn't hand over the cards he needed.
That explained why he was always so hellbent on touching you. That creepy bastard.
Killing innocents over cards. Fucking cards!!!!
Abengane went on to say he didn't trust Genthru would keep up his end of the bargain. That you were the only people he could trust. (Bullshit) and he wanted all three of you to spread the word before leaving to warn others himself. (Double Bullshit, his aura showed deceit)
But what else could you do besides head his word.
------------------------------------------
50.
70.
100.
130!
130 auras vanished, and the most disgusting nen you've ever felt flooded your senses.
Dead.
All those people were dead.
And you were the only one who knew, who felt it.
Bisky and Gon where none the wiser.
"Do you think we should stop by their hideout?" Gon spoke up.
One dead body in front of you was enough to make you want to hide away. But imagining hundreds, imagining the stench that would surely pollute the air.
"Y/n?" Bisky put her hand on your shoulder. You shrugged it off. You didn't want to be touched right now.
"They're all dead. It's too late."

Wouldn't it be nice?
“There are only ten minutes remaining till the end of this match and Richmond players seem to be in quite the pickle.”
“You are right Arlo, it does appear to be a dangerous situation for the greyhounds. As of now the score is 1:1 but Chelsea’s in possession and it looks like they may score the winning goal after all.”
“A beautiful pass from number 11, getting through Richmond’s defence, the only thing between the Chelsea Striker and leaving the match victorious is Richmond’s goalie, Zoreaux, who seems to be having a tough day today.”
“The greyhounds are relying quite heavily on their defence players today… What’s this? A beautiful kick by the Chelsea attacker! It’s soaring through the air and… By God, Arlo, did you see that?”
“If you are referring to the brilliant dive by Richmond’s number 13, then yes, I most definitely saw it. We simply have to look at it again, the way he got in there just in time to kick the ball right back into the stands, simply marvellous.”
A slow motion replay of Jan’s desperate save displayed on the screen accompanied by the cheers of the fans in the stands and the live commentary by both Chris Powell and Arlo White.
“The Dutchman did it again. He has definitely been the backbone of today's defence, foiling most of the scoring attempts. But back to the game, it is now time for Nelson Road residents to either try and keep the ball for the remaining four minutes, or to shock us with some clever closing play.”
“You never know what to expect from them, and they’ve been continually pulling all kinds of tricks from their sleeves. Chris, what do you think is going to happen?”
“It remains to be seen, Arlo, we’ll just have to wait.”
“Bumbercatch passes to Montlaur, Montlaur goes in to score, but no! It was a feint and it’s Jamie Tartt now with the ball. Tartt passes to Rojas who gets through Chelsea’s defence and gets the ball straight to number 12 and it’s a goal! A beautiful play by the Greyhounds mere seconds before the final whistle! Richmond winds up victorious with two goals from Tartt and Hughes respectively.”
“A beautiful display of teamwork indeed. It’s games like this one that truly highlight the unity of the Nelson Road Team, the famous ‘Richmond Way’ a term coined by Trent Crimm in his best selling book…”
The commentary was now fading away as the team exited the pitch, still euphoric after the win. Jan walked feeling exhausted but hyped up and was now heading to the locker room to celebrate along with the entirety of the team. The coaches were already there, waiting for them.
Everyone got seated and the room fell into silence, awaiting Roy’s words.
“Allright, I’ll make it quick. Good job Jamie, Colin,” He nodded at each respective player but then turned towards Jan “Jan Maas. You are the main reason we didn’t fuckin’ lose today!” Excitement in their manager’s voice crystal clear.
Dani was the first one to cheer, but soon everyone joined in and the whole locker room was once again filled with excited footballers. Shoulder pats and bear hugs were exchanged once again before Roy had to shout to get them to settle down and listen to the announcements.
“Oi! You have fifteen minutes to celebrate here, and after that I expect to see you all on the bus, ready to head to the hotel.”
With that Roy left to support Rebecca handling the interviews, and both Beard and Nate followed him out of the room, probably to settle some other matters.
The team changed quickly and it wasn’t even twenty minutes later that Jan sat next to Richard on the way to the hotel. The Dutchman pulled out a well loved book that was given to him for his birthday by the man sitting right next to him out of his bag. Richard himself could never read while in a moving vehicle, so as usual he opted for listening to music and looking out the window, completely zoned out.
The ride itself was short, and soon enough they all stood in the hotel lobby waiting to get their keys.
“Listen up people!” Coach Beard could be heard over the general ruckus “You get settled and then at 8PM sharp we meet in conference room 3 for our movie night! Jan Maas, today you get the honours of drawing the movie from our box of suggestions.”
A collective choir of whoops and whistles filled the foyer.
The movie night tradition became a thing when Ted was still their manager and it was one of the many things that stuck around even after he didn’t. Of course pillow fights also kept on happening, but the clean-up after a movie night is undoubtedly easier, and watching a silly movie is definitely a great way of winding down after a difficult match.
The box of suggestions though, was Phoebe’s idea that Roy decided to implement. At the beginning of the season each player got to write down one movie name on a post-it and put it in a purple glittery shoebox. Then, every movie night someone from the team would draw a piece of paper from said box and whatever it said, that was the movie they were going to watch.
The suggestions were obviously restricted, to the disappointment of both Moe and Richard. Richard’s, because almost everyone voted no, on classic French cinema, and Bumbercatch’s for reasons unspecified. The only other rule was no one was supposed to know who suggested what.
So obviously Jan and Richard turned into a game to see if they could guess who wrote down which movie. So far they were pretty sure that Dani suggested Night at the Museum and Sam was definitely the one who pitched Ratatouille, as for the other ones they were based purely on speculation. Both of them were pretty positive that Thierry picked How to lose a guy in 10 days. Richard kept disagreeing with him about who suggested Baby Driver, it was a tie between Jamie and Isaac, but for some reason the same disagreement also occurred while debating who picked Ocean’s Eleven.
Some other movies they watched included classics such as Jojo Rabbit, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Legally Blonde, The Greatest Showman, and Knives Out. The jury was still out on all of these.
They agreed not to disclose what movie they themselves suggested, to keep the game more interesting.
Jan however knew exactly what Richard picked. He remembers the first practice of the season, he remembers the weather outside, and the exact button up shirt that Richard wore that day.
Why does he remember that? Well, because he spent the entire after-practice meeting staring at the four undone upper buttons, and not thinking about what movie he should put down as his suggestion. That in turn meant he caught a glimpse of Richard’s post-it and the two titles written in neat handwriting. Duplex and 50 First Dates sat right there being deeply analysed by the Frenchman struggling to pick one. That’s when Jan decided, whichever one his friend doesn’t pick, he was going to write down.
The jangle of the room keys brought the Dutchman back to Earth. Richard has already gone and picked them up from coach Beard and was now motioning for Jan to follow him to their accommodations.
Most of the team roomed on the same floor, but the coaches made sure to get themselves settled the furthest away from the rest of the team. The rooms were nice enough, with a small balcony, two beds, wardrobe, a table with some chairs and an adjacent bathroom. Enough for a one night stay.
Richard immediately threw his things onto the bed by the window and sat down on it. After dozens of times sharing a room at away games Jan already knew that the Frenchman loved being woken up by the sun.
The Dutchman took the other bed and unpacked some of their bathroom things. There was no use taking two tubes of toothpaste, so they both agreed beforehand who was going to take one, same with soap and shampoo. Neither of them trusted the ones provided by the hotels.
After they were done unpacking they headed down to the dining room to grab some dinner before coming back up to their room to get changed into some sweatpants and comfy t-shirts and whatnot. Then the only thing left was to locate conference room number 3.
On the stairway they were joined by Colin, Isaac, Moe and a couple of the reserves. They already went up a flight before Reynolds stopped them to ask a question.
“Hold up, does anyone know where we are supposed to go?”
“Conference room 3, duh” Colin answered.
“Yeah, but do any of you actually know where that is?”
Everyone stopped in the middle of the stairway and shook their heads.
“Then where the hell are we going?” Goodman piped up.
“O'Brien, didn't you say that your roommate stayed back to ask the receptionist about it?”
“Yeah, he did.” Tom turned around as if to locate said roommate and didn’t seem to find him. Then he turned around again, hoping for a different result. That clearly didn’t seem to help. “I forgot Bhargava!” he yelled out and dashed down the stairs back to the rooms.
“Do you guys think he just locked him inside their room?” Colin asked, looking after the goalkeeper.
“Maybe he just forgot to tell him we were going already..?” Isaac supplied.
“Nah, he totally locked him in,” Richard laughed heartily and looked at Jan smiling which he reciprocated.
“Isn’t there a floorplan somewhere maybe?” Jan asked no one in particular. The Dutchman looked around trying to find something that would tell them where to go. While they were still standing around on the stairs they all heard O’Brien shouting.
“Lads! We got to go downstairs, not up!” A chorus of groans lasted a good ten seconds it took them to get downstairs and back to the lobby.
Once they finally reached the conference room Roy looked at them, then at his watch, and then back at them.
“What took you so long, you got fuckin’ lost, or something?”
“Well, what matters is that we are all here now.” Reynolds said after a beat of silence.
“That is the bare minimum, we said at 8, it’s 8:20”
“Actually, it’s only 8:17 so it’s closer to…” Goodman started but one look from their former captain turned manager shut him up.
"We need to learn how to appreciate the little things, like finding our way, or Richard…" Jan said, throwing an arm around his friend, who was standing right next to him.
The Frenchman was not amused, and rolled his eyes pointedly exaggerating the movement.
"Laugh all you want, I'm not the one that had to ask the hotel desk to get another duvet, because I didn't fit under the one that comes with the room."
“Fuckin’ hell… Enough of that, get inside, sit down and get ready to watch the movie.” Roy stopped them before they could drag the conversation out even longer. “Jan, come with me to pick the movie.”
Inside the conference room a projector was set up, along with a few rows of nice cushioned chairs to sit on. Roy stood in front of the chairs waiting for the footballers to settle down on their seats.
“Today's match was hard,”Roy began his speech. “but we pulled through. And we fuckin’ won!” Here Roy paused, waiting for the cheers to die down. “And we owe it not only to the ones scoring the goals, but to our defence as well, especially to Jan Maas over here, so Nate,” Here Roy turned to the shorter man, “Bring in the Box!”
Nate approached with the glittery shoebox and dramatically opened the lid before turning to Jan waiting for the Dutchman to pick out a post-it note with the title of today’s movie.
Jan covered his eyes and reached into the box pulling out a piece of paper folded twice, handing it to Roy and walking off to sit down on an empty chair next to Richard that the shorter man saved for him.
“And the movie of the evening is… 50 First Dates!”
Some people whooped, some looked around confused. Richard turned to look at Jan grinning. Jan returned the gesture for the second time today and turned to the screen waiting for the movie to start. He has never seen it before, but since Richard enjoyed it, then it must be nice.
The snack bowls were passed around, the light turned off, and the movie put on. Jan held onto the popcorn he was handed. For the next hour and a half every now and then the Frenchman would nudge him to get the bowl within his reach.
From time to time someone would snicker at some joke, Jamie definitely winced at the scene where Lucy beat Henry up, Thierry pointed out the fact that the dolphins were named Mary Kate and Ashley and Dani shot up during the diary burning scene to exclaim that it’s almost like that time when they were getting rid of the ghosts from the treatment room.
They all bawled their eyes out at the break up scene, and tissues had to be passed around during the final one. Jan ended up liking the movie and judging by the fact that by the end most of the players were trying to hold back tears, so did they.
Once the light came back on the coaches gave them ten minutes to tidy up, and get back to their rooms. Isaac and Sam stayed the longest to make sure everything was back to how it was beforehand, which meant Colin was stuck outside the doors waiting for his room key that his best friend held on to, Jan and Richard decided to keep him company.
“How’d you like the movie?” the Welshman asked, noticing how the two of them decided to wait around with him.
“I liked it” Jan simply answered “And you, Richard, you’ve seen it before, right?”
“Yeah, but I still find it enjoyable.”
“Yeah? Is it because Henry reminds you of… well, you?” Colin laughed
“Why? Because Dickie here is a shameless flirt, or actually a softie that cares a lot about penguins?” Colin joked as Isaac joined their group while Sam was locking up the conference room.
“I’ll have you know, penguins are actually great animals.”
“Yeah, and they are also the best secret agents in the world” the Nigerian finally joined their tiny circle, and they were able to start moving towards their rooms.
They all stopped in front of Sam and Dani’s room to talk a bit more before retiring for the night. Jan couldn’t help but notice how short Richard looked standing next to them all, well, maybe not next to Colin, but the rest of them towered over the Frenchman a little.
After about ten minutes of idle lounging around Colin yawned loudly prompting their discussion to halt.
“Need your beauty sleep?” Isaac asked.
“Better not, because he would need a lot of it.” Richard quipped.
“And remember, we have to be up early tomorrow.” Jan replied without missing a beat.
Colin flipped them both off as they bid the group farewell and took off in the direction of their room.
Back in their room they got ready to sleep taking turns in the bathroom. Richard went in first so when Jan exited after his own shower he was surprised to see his friend still up clearly waiting for him. As soon as the Frenchman noticed Jan was done in the bathroom he motioned for him to join him on the bed, so Jan did.
“So, who do you think picked the movie? I’m pretty sure both Dixon and Goodman recognised it but I’m not sure any of them would have picked it as their one choice.”
“How about Tommy Winchester?” Jan suggested trying to seem oblivious.
“Nah, that’s also not it…Maybe Reynolds?” the shorter man continued to speculate.
“How do I know it wasn’t you?” It might have been a bit of a risky move there, but it wasn’t unsound to assume that. “After all you did know the movie and I remember you mentioning something about liking Drew Barrymore romantic comedies…”
“It does make sense, but let me tell you a secret. I wanted to put that one down, but ended up picking a different movie.” Richard winked at him and it took all the self control Jan had to not reveal to him that he knows. “Also, you remembered that comment about Drew Barrymore? I didn’t even remember it until you mentioned it.”
“We are friends, I remember things about you. Things like your favourite actress… Maybe not the French cinema ones, because most of them I’ve never heard of, but you know… other ones…”
“Give French cinematography a try, you may end up liking it. We could put a film on during our next charcuterie night?”
“How did you end up liking it? I didn’t think goat farms had access to a lot of fancy French cinemas.”
“Well, my maman had a big city soul and I got it from her. She never did get out of the farm, but I did and have been living with splendour for the two of us ever since. Never looked back…”
“You never talked about her before… She sounds like a lovely woman.”
“She was… She was the only one who would get my father to dance with her. He was the most stern man you’ve ever met, but when she put on an old record and asked him to dance he would, just like that… Bought them an Adele record for their 20th wedding anniversary with the money I earned in my first job because that was the only new release at the local store. Père and I listen to it every time I visit him back home.”
They were now both lying down, propped up on the big pillow and looking at the ceiling, Richard leaning on him.
“What is your family like? I don’t think I ever heard you talking about them either…”
“Well, I have a brother and a sister, both older than me, and my parents own a small corner shop…”
Jan woke up in the middle of the night disoriented. He looked around and noticed someone lying on top of him.
Richard’s rhythmic breaths and the rise and fall of his chest calmly brought Jan back to Earth and stopped him from panicking lest he wake up the smaller man. They must have fallen asleep whilst talking.
The Dutchman looked back at his friend and smiled softly at how the other man curled up into him. He made a move to reach for the blanket at the foot of the bed without stirring the Frenchman but was unsuccessful in his attempt as the other man stirred awake.
“Morning… Well, not morning, but there isn’t really a greeting for the middle of the night…”
“Hello to you too… Can we go back to sleep, or are you gonna move some more?”
“I… Well, uh… Sure, let’s, let’s get back to sleeping.” Before lying back down Jan draped the blanket over the both of them and spared one last look at his best friend. He waited before Richard’s breathing slowed down again before speaking.
“I was the one who put down that movie… Because I saw you struggling to pick one, and I decided to pick the one you wrote off.” He was now absentmindedly tracing patterns on Richard’s right shoulder and arm while spilling some stuff he’d be too scared to admit in the daylight. “I couldn’t stop looking at you that day… And many days before and after that. It’s been a thing for quite some time. And now I’m thinking that I’d like to buy a gramophone so that we could get a vinyl of some Adele album and dance to it, and maybe visit your dad on the farm… You could show me the goats. I've never touched a goat before… And maybe we could grow older together, but not as friends… As something…”
“Just so you know, I’m not asleep yet…”Richard whispered softly as Jan's face dropped. “And I think I would like that too, but maybe we could talk about it more in the morning?” Jan’s face went from horrified to touched to happy as he hugged the man lying next to him.
He pressed a soft kiss to the top of Richard’s head and burrowed his face in his hair. Richard in turn kissed his neck before turning to find a comfortable position and go back to sleep.
“Goodnight Richard”
“Goodnight Jan”

Honestly, the way you're acknowledging that MC's original world is still turning while they're stuck at *squints at notes* .. Eternia. Eterna? It's 5am and I forgot. Anyways, the way you're acknowledging that just. It just make it hurt all the more, man. I don't really know how all this will pan out, but MC is going to be faced with some really tough choices down the line, what with being stuck between two worlds. Maybe even two lives, if they start adjusting to their life in Angsty Kidnapper Land.
Unless... they turn out to be some sort of realm walker...
Ahahaha. Anyways. Incredible game!! It is such fun. You know how many times I've replayed the demo? Four times. Four. I keep going back just to pick all the 'furious, on the warpath' options. Hell-hath-no-fury MC is the BEST. It's incredibly cathartic, watching MC being rightfully pissed about their situation, watching them freely express their anger. I tend to keep more aggressive emotions like anger to myself, so it's very refreshing. It wouldn't be a stretch to say that I'm using your story as some odd way to cope with my own life's trainwreck state. It's amazing <3
Honestly, this Eternia place has terrible manners. Hells upon hells, MC woke up in a dungeon. After getting kidnapped. And they expected MC to take it well.
Like.
A dungeon. Really? A dungeon? How 'bout a bedroom? Is that so hard? Really? If they're concerned about security, I'm sure it's not hard to post guards outside of said bedroom? Maybe put up a few wards if that's a thing there?
Azzy even knew that MC was an average citizen!! An ordinary(?) human! The man practically recited MC's profile on the spot! Honestly, how the hell was plopping MC into a cell supposed to endear them (and their cause) to MC?
They could've been going for an intimidation tactic but. MC's someone they're going to be closely working with, and with the current state of affairs, it seems like they might be doing so for quite a while - so it would be better if they started off on a good note, no?
A good note that is certainly not waking up to a dungeon in a strange land. And a good note that is absolutely not getting stared/glared at very angstily by some knight with a crush(?) on your doppelganger.
Yes, this is for you, Theokins. Honestly, the nerve of him, acting like MC's at fault for having the same face as S. I understand that the man is hurting, but damn.
That line in the bar, when MC tries to escape and Theo 'says the word prince as if MC had somehow tainted it' - ugh. Whatever Theo's feelings about S are, MC has nothing to do with it. He may be doing it subconsciously, but his callousness/Sad Boy-ness with MC is getting on my nerves. I happen to like this MC a lot, thank you very much, so I'm feeling very protective of them.
I have a feeling know that MC getting caught in the crossfire of people's feelings/expectations for S is going to be a running theme in this story. Which in turn will probably definitely come with a healthy heap of identity crises. Joy. I can almost feel the internal hair pulling I'll be doing.
I do hope that we'll have chances to bully Theo at least a little bit in the future, though. I usually play the genuine, good natured MC, but they just can't let Theo escape scot free from the consequences of his attitude, no? :D
Ehehehe.
TLDR: The Kidnapper Squad absolutely sucks at the hospitality and tact aspect of kidnapping. Surprise surprise.
Anyway. Don't get me wrong. I've griped and rambled through 90% of this monstrosity of an essay, but I completely adore this story. The way it sparks genuine emotional reactions from me - it's great fun. The first time I played the demo, I was going through the scenes with extremely vivid ramping indignation. I was even gripping my computer mouse tighter and tighter, wishing I could just chuck it and nail [insert kidnapper squad member here] on the head with it. The range of emotional reactions you allow the MC is, frankly, impressive - and it's immersed me into the story in a way that few stories are able to do.
I'm very excited to see what comes next! Of course, take as long as you need - pieces of art aren't made in a day <3 Thanks so very much for creating this story and sharing it with us. You're awesome! I'm sorry if this... letter...? rant...? Ran for far too long (it definitely did). I just got very excited. And I tend to go on and on when I am. :D
I hope you have a very nice day! <3
Oh my gooodnesss I love long asks mostly because it makes me really happy that you got invested in the story!
Firstly, I'm so glad you liked the story and thank you for the kind words! I'm really happy it resonated with you. I tend to keep any negative emotions to myself as well, but I knew I wanted to give readers the option to be as feral and as angry as possible. An angry MC is basically what I'd hoped I'd be in that situation instead of the reality (scared and very obedient lol...). MC is a totes new yorker, i had to squeeze in the angry NYCers that tend to be our stereotype lolol
And yes, these Eternans suck. I say this a lot but I am happy they've gotten people angry. They're supposed to! They went about 'kidnapping' MC in the worst way but I find the whole thing kind of funny, especially considering they just throw MC in a room anyway like you could've done that in the first place!?! They get better, I promise!
Theoden is.....interesting. 'Sad Boy' is honestly the most perfect way to describe him. He's like a moody teenager. His relationship with S is super complicated and I'm excited to get into it, considering what they have is not at all straight-forward (evil laughter).
And don't worry, bullying Theoden is coming hehehe
You're def right about expectations and identity crisis. One of the major (internal) conflicts MC deals with having to separate themselves from S. It's also something the whole kidnapper squad has to adjust to, and it's definitely not easy. Especially if you're romancing them. Even worse if MC starts getting comfortable and actually enjoying themselves at Hotel Kidnapper.
Thank you for the nice words and I'm so happy you loved the story 🥺 the fact that you played it four times means so much to me! I hope you like what I have planned.
and please, I'm always happy to hear long rants (especially if its just ragging on Theoden lol).
Thank you!!
