someone commented on an old post of mine that sonia wasnt fridged bc shes relevant to the plot and i have been thinking about it for an hour bc i dont think thats an actual get out of jail card for that .... also ... what does she do? be raurus way to cement himself as da king? give some half assed advice to zelda, that has no pay off unless you count zelda time reversing a bunch of weapons*, and then immediately dies just so zelda can essentially replace her and make rauru regret he didnt stab ganondorf right when he showed up in their temple i guess ?? (which is questionable on its own imo)

(*its not a good pay off for powers she was suddendly revealed to always have had(tm) and also is only ever used to .... welll, get zelda out of the way back in time, reverse a few weapons and .. idk create a ham fisted way to give the player her gimmick?)

even if she doesnt technically meet the requirements(lol?) to be called fridged like .. she is spiritually at least for how irrelevant and cheapely killed off she was

i am playing professor layton and the curious village on my ds. very fun!!!

I don't know if i'm very far in because most of the time spent in that game was me being confused and bad at puzzles. it's fun though.

!!! im glad to hear youre enjoying it!! its one of my fav titles and honestly such an underrated series, id love it if more ppl gave it a try!

the puzzles can be difficult but very rewarding!! i used to dread them as a kid but now i find them nice and challenging. the math ones are still hard, but if u speak to Flick at the cafe he'll give you chess puzzles which i think were my favorite ^_^

#its nice because its story driven but gives u enough room to do the puzzles on your own to make progress.. and the rewards like #the gizmos painting pieces and furniture for the minigames are also a nice bonus because it gives u a little extra incentive to solve as #many puzzles as possible!! ngl i didnt know how the hotel room minigame worked but i had fun completing the painting and robot dog #plus the variety and the fact that u dont know which puzzles youre gonna get makes it interesting. and theres no harm if u cant finish or #end up missing some because you can find them in the riddle shack or just do a different one instead and its fine. very cool #i have dyscalculia so the math ones have always been hard for me and id need my brothers help so we'd work on it together #or i'd just search up the answer as a last resort............#actually im gonna save u the trouble. if u get the camera case puzzle the answer is 95. ITS FUCKED UP I KNOW BUT ITS 95 #it took me like 2 hours with my brother just to figure that out and i dont want anyone to get a headache from that one ITS FRUSTRATING #ive only played curious village and pandoras box bc its the only ones i had as a kid. replaying pandoras box rn actually!!!#i have cracked versions of unwound future and azran legacy which come after CV and PB BUT my version of unwound future is broken #it freezes on the opening cutscene every time i try to play it which SUCKS bc i really wanna play the games in order. maybe ill emulate it #professor layton #ask #answered #yapping #doodles

i just realised so many of the parts and lines in [of lattes and dozing generals], esp towards the end of the section where reader was reminiscing in jing yuans office + pretty much the whole of the flashback section, was basically foreshadowing the events of the jingliu vs blade cutscene sequence

fuck now i want to write a sequel to the fic where reader is also invited to the reunion and has this massive emotional burst, specifically at blade, after their fight because this is what you expected, but that doesnt mean it hurts any less seeing the reality you have long since accepted unfold before your eyes.

like,,, it would be so bittersweet and full of unspoken agony and internally you cannot help but to loathe fate more and more for forcing you and your once-companions onto this path destiny has laid out for you

sobbing reader is just... so tired.... and on top of seeing dan heng with faint traces of dan feng within him (but u are able to easily discern the two unlike certain someones), jing yuan with such a conflicted expression the whole time because the only thing he can do is stand by and watch, jingliu with her passive way of speech that bites at certain topics yet softens when reminiscing the past time spent together, and yinxing— no, blade having nothing but the stench of death, anger, guilt, and revenge cling on to his form, so palpable it rolls off in waves.

and when he directs that hostility at you when you decide you cannot take any more and begin to leave... you snap, letting out all the suppressed anger and hurt and betrayal built up over the last seven hundred years for your old friends to see in its barest, most vulnerable form.

ok im back I actually DID go watch the rgg prologue short film. i am changed

#if you want the literal only yuko nishikiyama content out there uh. this is your chance #it was very cute i liked it a lot #think i might redraw some scenes from it :3 but i gotta do the bowling thing first #anyway i literally love childhood whimsy so much #and it does a good job contrasting that with. y'know. being orphaned due to organized crime violence. and so on #the exec director was the same as the rgg movie that came out the following year (takashi miike) but it's a way more grounded film #i wish i knew exactly what was added for kiwami in terms of cutscenes bc i feel like this would have an interesting relationship w that #rgg #like a dragon prologue #it's so cool being part of a fandom with so much lore like how is no one talking about this #anyway if you have 40ish minutes it's a pretty good time 👍#you will probably not be changed by it significantly but all experiences change you a little. so #anyway it's wild seeing how few views this has compared to the 2007 movie #it's also wild seeing ppl say it's better. listen LISTEN. rgg2007 is CAMP PERFECTION. nmk1's plot is actually really juicy its brand new but still has the elements of mk. the "liu king evil real?" plot, and shang tsung's scheming, shao's blood thirsty. the origin and fluences of these characters being the way they are really different but theyre still being selves that theyve always been

#its really good!#n in nmk1 stands for new #they way kung lao is. the way kenshi is himself #how tarkatans are treated.#its fucking me up how kung lao is a different person #kung lao as liu kang's friend is an elder god. so is raiden liu kangs meantor and kitana liu kangs love interest #this people. are actually completely different people and arent reincarnations of themselves from the past timeline #yet their influences live in the new universe and take hold onto new people #HOW QUAN CHI STRINGS PPL ALONG SO UNEXPECTEDLY #I REALLY SENSE THE DEADLY ALLIANCE HAPPENING AGAIN IT WOULD BE SO FUCKING EPIC #IM ONLY BARELY AN HOUR IN #im watching the cutscenes

looking at all the gacha games i play and comparing them id say dislyte has the best character design, arknights having the best gameplay and world, magiareco having the best story presentation and general presentation, and bbs has best alts and thats really it

#reasonings: dislyte has some pretty damn good designs like clara or cecilla. also it has food for both gay ppl and furries (sander)#like it has a very strong visual identity being high fashion sort of futuristic but clearly supernatural #arknights has a shit ton of lore and an actual world that has conflicts and im gen interested in it. also the characger design is cool #also it has the cool base building that reminds me of fallout shelter and its tower defense which is so fun #magia has transformation animations when you pull characters which is really cool #like genuinely magia has the best pulling. arknights was cool with the zipper but the whole henshin. even if off model #but also arc 1 ch 12 having some animated cutscenes was really cool and the live2d models are expressive #and bbs im just there for my son im going to be real with you #ig it has the cooler alts and anniversaries being what ifs is a cool idea. shame its sexist about it LOL #and the only way to get me to download GI is to inteoduce an SE asian region with actual dark skinned characters.#so basically never lol.

god i love when the music in cutscenes is synced to the visuals. you know what i'm not even gonna pretend that this isn't about kirby so here's a (non-comprehensive, because i'd just paste the whole list of cutscenes otherwise) list of moments that live in my brain rent-free

under the cut because the post got long

[a visitor from afar] when kirby gets their Call To Adventure Moment and the super ability theme is played on those low strings. it gives me CHILLS for how innocuous a moment it is. also, it gives me the feeling of... fate? like this is the moment that sets everything off, which starts the entire story (which it kinda is, but knowing that isn't the same as how dramatic this feels).

[let me explain everything] the cymbal(? triangle?) hits as the master crown falls off landia and skips on the ground a little. and GOD the minor key title theme on low strings kicking in as magolor descends to signal Hey, He's The Villain! and of course the drums as landia walks up to kirby which is so impactful in the absence of music. it makes me feel that the sound of landia's footsteps really were thunderous, in the shocked state everyone was in.

[final battle ex] that little tune that plays during magolor ex's transformation sequence. it's a minor key variation of the motif you hear right as the lor enters halcandra! it's going full circle - entering halcandra with the cheerful major variation and leaving with the foreboding minor one. i think the foreboding aspect of this works well both as a precursor to the final battle for the player, and for magolor's fate (like he's sealing his fate by tapping into this power).

[each to his own world] i promise this is the last rtdl one. anyways i just wanted to talk about the drum hits as the landias fly across the screen; not a lot of analysis here, it just hits hard i think. oh but i will mention that ending with the first motif in a visitor from afar (aka road to victory) does such a good job at nicely tying the game up music-wise. i'm a sucker for bookending!

[waking to a flowery coup!] taranza's theme aside (which is wonderful) i'm a big fan of the music happening during dedede's abduction. the cymbal crashes at kirby's shocked face and when taranza breaks out through the roof fit perfectly. green greens on low strings does the same job as the super ability theme in a visitor from afar ('fate'/'this is the moment' feeling) and i LOVE the way the cutscene ends - with the same motif every boss battle starts with. it really does feel like the boss battles are logical continuations of this cutscene not only visually but also musically (and the particular bit of green greens they chose here is also the main one used in revenge of the enemy, too!)

[sectonia fight] okay this one isn't in the theater but it'd be a CRIME not to talk about the intro to sectonia's fight. the slow, dramatic organ over the zoom-in on kirby and the unconscious dedede, keeping the destruction already wrought in sight at all times, the shot of the budding dreamstalk in front of the huge moon. the music speeding up in a repeated chromatic pattern that gives the feeling of a buzzing insect while simultaneously accounting for the action picking up as sectonia flies into view. and then holding the note juuust long enough for the healthbar to fill up, so the music (now with added drums!) hits RIGHT as the fight kicks off... perfection. i wish this part was included in the true arena tbh

[she who holds the stars] the piano in this is absolutely menacing, it gives me chills. i LOVE the way lower notes are used like a drumbeat as the music picks up, the cymbal/triangle sound matching the flash of light as sectonia fuses with the dreamstalk (and with the light that is expelled from it). that full orchestra kicking in as she explains her plan is SO cathartic after that section of quiet, light music while still being threatening and fitting for a final boss.

[katrc opening] i love the bit where elline is being chased by the grab hands! the grabs are synced to the music, and the frantic piano run works great for elline spiraling out of control and falling. which, speaking of, idk what exactly makes the noise for when she hits the ground (i think low notes on piano?), but it sounds so impactful and painful. like, it makes me wince when i watch this scene

[first contact] when kirby wakes up and we hear green greens for the first time - it's been changed! we get the first three notes of green greens, and then we get the haltmann works theme in the green greens style (the repeated first note before going up - try listening to that bit, and removing it in your head to see what i mean), before going back to green greens. it's green greens but interrupted and changed by the hwc theme, perfectly describing what's going on in the story. absolutely one of my favorite kirby music moments ever because it's such a subtle change but also such a strong, evocative one.

[a star is born] the opening synth in intermezzo without a leader slowly growing louder as the halberd gets closer and closer and finally dips as it's pulled in by gravity is genuinely so cool. the visuals do such a good job of giving an emphasis on the sheer scale of the battle and the music complements it quite well.

[restored to life] i really like the way the hwc theme fades into the halberd's! when kirby first sees the halberd, they're playing at the same time. then the halberd theme takes over entirely. the hwc theme gets entirely cut off, not getting to resolve, which almost feels like a celebration of meta knight being in full control of himself again. the fact that the halberd theme taking control is in time with a cut to meta knight's face, plus the halberd theme going into the kirby's triumphant return part, only adds to this feeling

[starfall: a rude awakening] the jamba theme as hyness walks up to the jamba heart, it holding that last note as he attempts to break the seal, and finally going almost completely silent for a brief moment as the heart spears fly out. then the cymbal crash into the main theme as the heart pieces go flying everywhere. it's not super deep but it is very satisfying to watch.

[star allies: return from afar] man the soft piano + some sort of vibraphone/glockenspiel or something version of kirby's triumphant return as the warp star takes off gets me every time (fits perfectly too, with what's happening! kirby is indeed having a triumphant return!). and GOD that final quiet chord as kirby waves at the camera makes me emotional

[the king's turn to shine] dedede's theme starting as he makes his decision, followed by the trumpet playing as the waddle dee starts flying (and it only ends after they're caught by kirby). then, the instruments fading out with the soft piano bit as the doors slowly close, as if the metaphorical door to dedede is closing alongside the physical one. the note is held, but fading, as the doors slowly close, which makes that low note as the doors shut feel so loud when it happens. it really feels final

[no night is eternal] i LOVE the rendition of a new wind for tomorrow played after elfilin's sacrifice. at first it's a very light version without much harmony as kirby and bandana dee look over dream land, like a sort of "welcome back, the adventure is over and the world is saved" vibe. then a low string note is played as kirby looks down dejectedly and the harmony becomes melancholy. until the light of the portal appears, which is synchronized with a high note and followed by much happier-sounding chords. it's a lot of very subtle changes but ones which do wonders for how surprisingly emotional this scene is

#star says #kirby #wake up im talking about kirby music again #sorry for the rtdl bias. but also im not sorry <3 in my defense it and td are the only 2 games without like. playable cutscenes #(aka cutscenes where you press a to advance dialogue) which i do like! but inherently they do lose this factor lol #also i find dialogue-less cutscenes more interesting to analyze via music since you can go a bit wild on the Thoughts #my meta #sorta. i mean it's analysis in a loose sense of the word. eh whatever i'll just tag it

It seems like you’re channel gets a lot of super hard core mega Yakuza fans and the casual/newer fans who just want some basic information without play the games because they can be kind of a slog to get through.

and in that i'll always be happy to give info, i for sure love talking about this franchise until im blue in the face LMAO

#snap chats #sometimes though... there do be some stuff that's just so common knowledge that it has to be hard not to pick up #but i'm biased i've played most every game multiple times so what's 'common' to me is definitely new for other people #i shouldnt be so harsh in that regard. on that note though if you want a lot of information #there's always the wiki you can skim through: it keeps things succinct yet informative #and thats not even suggesting watching the actual cutscenes: you get the impact so much better actually seeing everything #if you have to treat it like a tv series then do so but i greatly implore people to actually. interact with the series if you can #you dont have to play it- i get it not everyones a Gamer™️#but these stories and characters are so lovely and crafted with care it'd be a shame to get the series only through footnotes #you can't come up with. All These Damn Essays I Keep Typing By Accident by just footnotes #it's absolutely worth the 'slog' to see everything for yourself and to be able to come to your own conclusions #theres also the fact i have my biases when it comes to things in this series so i might tell it a different way #i try NOT TO. in one of my classes growing up we were told to explain things as if we're talking to someone with absolutely no knowledge #yk try to keep it unbiased and simply put so i try to do that #but sometimes... yboy gets petty or just. Emotional ☠️#anyway thats enough of my preaching i just love this franchise and i love it when people are interested in it #and i hope that people can be interested in it enough to play the games or just watch the stuff #having any amount of love for it is enough honestly but its always fun being able to talk more in-depth yk #ok im done fr now BYYYYYE

character hyperfixations suck actually because theyre the only way i can be invested in media but also they will have me going "hey where are they" "i wonder how theyre doing rn" right up until either the character or my interest dies

#currently in garlemald #i JUST realized while writing his post. the dying thing. i lose interest when a character dies bc no more new content #it happened with destiny & cayde it happened with zenos in ffxiv #but the thing is. these games have a fuckton of lore and story to comb through.#my interest in either game didnt die with the character hyperfixation i just. got a new one.#in theory i can be somewhat normal in ffxiv and actually appreciate most characters but. yeah. replaying shadowbringers except #im only interested in the cutscenes.#i didnt care about the first the first time through bc i was that fixated on zenos #i do care about the first NOW but only because gaia is my dearest & she & ryne deserve to be happy #but obviously gaia isnt in the msq so #shadowbringers felt formulaic in the same way hunting down the primals in arr msq did #while yes the overarching plot of shadowbringers is good and the writing is great and the villain is fantastic and graha is there.#going to a region doing a bunch of quests killing a lightwarden 'and now go do this four more times :)' is not my personal idea of fun #stormblood is still my favorite but hey man what do i know #it wouldve been endwalker if it wasnt for the ending & the way it sent me into 3 days of constantly ranting about #narrative redemption vs narrative condemnation for characters #but hey what do i know im just a teenager with weird opinions on things #really wish i was more confident in my takes i have so many posts i could make
