Today is the day I unleash my Mr. Bonzo fanart upon this webbed site.

This post is relatively safe up until the cut.

Is the *tips fedora* meme over a decade old? Yes. Do I care? No, absolutely not.

Now this is where I recommend "getting off" this post to anyone bothered by graphic depictions of body horror, blood, violence, or Mr. Bonzo (monster, not mascot like above).

I know the first image is silly, but I cannot stress enough how serious I am when I say:

Proceed at your own risk.

Now that you have chosen to continue, I have arranged the images in order of least to most vile and disturbing (though that might be slightly subjective on my part).

Remember that you can click off this post at any time.

Final warning: split tongue Bonzo.

I tried channeling Julia Drawfee with the lineart a little bit. Didn't feel like shading that one, so it's a bit flat.

Where did I lose my colours? Plot twist: the first image in this post is actually the last I've made, so technically I gained the colours. I wanted it to have more of a cheery vibe, unlike the ones under the cut, which I wanted to be kinda dreary and I feel like adding too much colour can mess that up.

Alright, I'll address the tongue. Remember how his head splits in tmagp 12? Yeah, it's a nod to that and also I asked myself "how do I make his design worse than it already is?" and that's the only answer I could come up with. I debated adding stitches connesting the two halves of the tongue but couldn't figure out how, so you're welcome. It will be present in all the upcoming drawings as well.

The next one is bloody, but it's not that much worse than the previous one overall.

I was playing with filters after I was done with this piece, because I felt like it lacked something, but didn't know what. Really liked this one, I think it's some sort of a gradient map. It pixelised the image and adjusted the colours a bit, it also really made the blood pop out, though it covered up some of the details.

Why did he lose his hat? It's stupid and hard to draw.

You may have noticed the artstyle change a little, the previous images having neat lineart and little to no shading. That's because I am using different tools, sketchy and soft brushes, that allow me to experiment with lighting and textures more (plus the aforementioned filter altering the image even further).

Alright, I feel like this last image deserves a separate warning. It references episode 12 (spoiler ahead), specifically the moment before the bartender loses a hand, though it's not entirely accurate. It's rendered in more detail than any of the previous images, so keep that in mind before scrolling down.

Basically it's pov: Bonzo licks your hand.

I feel like I could've made his tongue bigger in this one, it seems kinda small compared to his mouth. I really like how the skin on his face ended up looking. It took a lot of work.

The spit makes it look weirdly sexual, doesn't it? Listen, that was not my intention, but I'm not erasing it. I set out to make the worst thing I could and, though not without cost, I have achieved it.

I tried splattering Bonzo in blood, but it wasn't really working for me and it covered up a lot of the detail I liked, so I just put it in the background.

The human hand is drawn from reference, which I found by googling "hand reaching out away from the viewer". And let me tell you: google is shit at looking for drawing references, but I figured it was just going to be a sketch to explore an idea, so I didn't bother trying to get a better one. And then I fixated on it for a couple hours, you know, like a normal person.

I literally (and I mean no exaggeration) dusted off my drawing tablet after a few months of no use to spend the entire weekend, after tmagp 12 came out, glued to the screen making those images, except for the b'onzo one, which I made this evening.

Just to clarify: I drew all of those by myself. No filthy AI image generation is allowed in this house. I am capable of committing far greater sins than an artificial intelligence ever will.

The only thing left here is to extend my sincere congratulations/condolences to whoever got this far. It's up to you to either think you're brave or realise that you're foolish for doing so, but be comforted by the fact that at least you didn't make this post, which I cannot say for myself.

I saw your RMA Post but before i ask, first i love your artstyle its so beautiful and each time i see it, it makes my day :] and second what are your thoughts of S2 part 1 and 2? And if you can rewrite it what will it be?

Aha hello!! I didn't think that RMA post would actually catch any eyes but I'm it did!!

First off, thank you so much! It's the best feeling ever knowing my art can make people happy just like that :]]

As for your question, I recently just rewatched a good chunk of S2 Part 2 but some of the details around the later bits are still fuzzy (rewatching em is quite hard for me as the english dubs aren't exactly that easy to find out there unfortunately)

I will say though, rewatching it really opened my eyes to just how much of a downgrade Part2 is compared to S1 and even just S2 Part1 itself, not just in story but in like the voice acting and animation. The voice direction is a bit off, characters sound flat, and the animation just feels... weirder, if that makes sense. It's not the worst thing in the world though, it's just an unfortunate thing I happen to notice. They also changed some of the VAs I think (liek Rema's) which was a strange decision but alright ig... There's also the reusing of so many games instead of new ones but oh well... Despite all my problems with it though, I like the inclusion of the new characters (Manus and all the other Leos Valiants). The Leos are all such silly guys :]] I do wish the DV7s got more screentime and played a bigger role though, the first episode for part2 really fooled me into thinking they would lmaoo

S2 Part1 still holds up, certainly not as good as S1 but still, it's got charm! I love the setting actually, Old City is such a bright and colorful place with like all these abstract and messed up winding pathways, it's so weird and funkyy, I dig it a lot!

So pretty!! God... just like how funky the cities look with all of them being like giant floating islands, it will always be cool af to me

Ik most of my followers don't care about runningman much but in the off chance some non-rma fan sees this, look at Tree City (pic below), I love it so much

Although... sometimes it really does feel like Season 2 is where the studio decided to lean more into it being a children's show. It's a lot less "dark" compared to S1 which is a tad disappointing. Like just compare Akong's battle (where the dude literally uses a bunch of the old guys to power up his thingy 😭) compared to CG's big mech fight. Still, I liked it! I like the neat guardians (the lil pullulu spirits who guard the gate, Vivace and Ensemble twins my beloved <3).

ALSO ALSO THE IRON BEAST, I can always appreciate a big robot guy aha

That's all I really got for the ramble aha, I'd say more stuff about S2 and maybe my views on it will change overtime but as of now, I haven't even really gotten around to properly finishing it yet. I remember watching it waaayyy back but it was all in korean with zero subtitles 😭 luckily, I am in a server with people sharing english versions so I'll probably watch those when I get more free time!

I really just miss talking about this show really and I feel like I've largely outgrown the fandom in old spaces where I used to talk in (like Facebook groups and Amino lmfaoo), so it's absolutely awesome to find RMA fans over here on tumblr!

If I was in charge of Hazbin I would've made it a Psychological horror, drama, and mixed media. Instead of hell the hotel’s set in purgatory with Charlie as the who tests to see who’s willing enough to want to be redeem or not Since her goal’s to redeem sinners. Their hotel rooms become their own personal hell via transforming into their most worst fears or forcing them to relive their bad experiences they did in life. But Charile could aswell make the rooms a little bits of heaven they could have if they continue to be redeemed as a reward, a motivator. But she can just as easily take that taste away if they act out in any way. And everytime they enter their rooms the artstyle changes medie such as 3d, live action, stop-motion, etc as a reflection as to how they what things to be. Sorry if I made Charlie seem ooc, I just love the overly sweet yet sadistic characters.

Since you mentioned that you think Hades is the worst supergiant game, would you feel like ranking them and sharing what you like and don't about each one? I love Pyre personally and would kill to see a sequel/remake/iteration on its mechanics and design. And also more orb wife

Yes, absolutely! Hades was very fun to play, but they really didn't do anything with the setting and the story was meh at best. I undestand that they probably wanted to concentrate on the gameplay, but it was such a huge letdown for me personally.

Number 1 Supergiants game for me is Transistor. It was a tight story that didn't overstay its welcome, very fun gameplay and amazing artstyle. The tone stays consistent throught the whole game too and that's important to me. And I think they used music in Transistor better than in any other game.

Number 2 is definitely Pyre! I think they did lots of fun and unusual things in Pyre, like the need to say goodbye to your strongest characters, the soundtrack that adapts and changes. Style wise, it's always gorgeous and colourful and just memorable. I think they missed the mark with the music in some parts and honestly it's a bit too long. But the final message and the final moments are just 10/10. Very touching. And definitely orb wife <3

Number 3 is Bastion. I started with Bastion and it still has a special place in my heart as a well made game with great style and nice story, but it doesn't really speak to me otherwise. Still better than Hades just because it's unique.

My Deep Rock Galactic Survivor Demo review as of 05.10.23 :)

•Core Gameplay:

Definitely interesting to say the least.

The game description calls it a "reverse bullet hell" and it is not entirely wrong. In this game you cannot aim, hell, you can't even control WHEN you fire your gun or throw a grenade, if an enemy is near, a comically large bullet will come out of your crotch and propel itself towards the nearest Bug.

Your goal here is to go in, mine gold, nitra and other minerals, get XP and kill a "boss" type enemy

The whole deal of the game is "go in, loot, go further down, die and use the resources you got on general upgrades in the main menu" I have no problem with this, except for the fact that the minimap and bonus objectives only get unlocked after at worst two runs.

The resources do stay with you even when you fail tho.

As of the current Demo, the only character available is the scout, and despite being the quick and nimble one, the default move speed is way too slow, and only after around two speed upgrades it becomes bearable. I can't even imagine what classes like Driller or Gunner will feel like.

WEPONS

Scouts wepon selection is also far from brilliant, the current wepons are NOT powerfull enaugh to deal with the enemy crowds and they very obviously lack the AOE that is almost required for hordes at even Haz1, the only decent one due to its piercing is the m1000, and it has a slow fire rate whitch makes it unreliable, most wepons fall off hard by the second mission if you aren't collecting every piece of XP, whitch is hard enaugh because of

the ENEMIES

the game just keeps throwing enemies at you endlessly, and if you just happen to focus on mining or moving, they can pile up very quickly into clumps you straight up cannot kite around, whitch is basically a slow loss, as even when the objective turns to eliminating the big slasher, the enemies keep piling up, and past mission two, it's almost impossible to keep on top of the spawns and since they just keep coming, it's hard to collect the XP you have gotten from your kills.

The enemies at the moment seem to include:

Mactera spitters

Basic grunts

Grunts but red and looking like lobsters?

Glyphid Pretorians

Exploders

(probably some more that I have simply missed)

The enemy selection is good, and if I had to complain about the bugs themselves and not the way they spawn, I would say that the exploders detonate way too fast to escape unless you're already almost out of the range.

the GRAPHICS

the artstyle is visibly different, and it's jarring. My eyes are not ready to see medium poly scout, the bugs themselves look different, like they were squished almost, it's not a major issue in mission, since you don't often pay attention to the small glyphid details while running for your life, but it is visible.

As of the current Demo, there are no graphical options, so no comment can be made on those

It's not a bad demo by any means, but it's far from good and there are definitely many things I would love to see changed in the final release later this year :3

i have some headcanons i would like to share. if anyone wants to read them.

i might add more as i come up w them

1. ragatha's handwriting is swirly but kinger is the only one who can write in medieval times cursive.

2. kinger has a bible-sized book of fun facts about insects that he wrote himself and this is the damn font.

3. you know the different color choices that coraline's other mother offered? yeah, ragatha can change her button eye to match her outfits, but removing and adding in a new button eye takes a while, so she doesnt get to do that often.

4. ragatha has stitches all over her from previous quests going wrong and not wanting it to be an inconvenience to anyone else.

she also has that brick shithouse physique. the only reason she hasn't whooped jax's ass yet is becuz as capable as she is of twisting the lagamorph into a pretzel, she is far too kind. For now.

5. zooble's favorite body part is their claw. becuz it looks cool.

6. if jax ever fell for someone else, he would not be good at hiding it. behind closed doors he's going apeshit becuz of it. he is almost as scared of vulnerability as he is of corn. he also hates crying, and that's part of the reason.

7. gangle is really good at drawing. her artstyle is heavily inspired off of anime and her strongest suit is expressions.

8. gangle can also write. she specializes in feelings. she prefers to write about romance, but she's better with ones such as anger and sadness. she only writes about those when venting.

8. pomni is the only one who can (somewhat) tolerate jax. she tries to understand why he does it, but it's kinda hard to when he's such an ass.

9. pomni and gangle are transfem. jax is transmasc. zooble is agender and ragatha uses she/they

10. zooble is not a morning person.

11. zooble reacted the worst to being stuck in the circus. despite that, they managed to get used to it quicker than everyone else.

12. zooble tolerates pomni more than everyone else. they almost pity her-she's already shaking as much as kinger and she just got here. they secretly enjoy her company, but they won't admit it. Not intentionally anyway.

13. ragatha is also scared of chihuahuas.

14. caine can hear the voices from the cellar. every single one of them. those voices are all thats left of those abstracted circus members. he is constantly trying to talk over them, that's why he's so loud. that's why there's always circus music.

15. bubble pops randomly at times for no reason, even when caine has nothing to do w it. he also pops when he floats too close to the sun.

16. and he multiples when he goes through a bubble wand. he did it on purpose a few times.

17. pomni has a very low spice tolerance. so does jax but he doesn't act like it.

18. gangle has the highest spice tolerance.

19. ragatha offers to fix gangle's comedy mask often.

20. jax got his name from the name generator thingy where pomni got her name. his name was actually spelt "jacks" but he thought that was stupid.

The Summer Hikaru Died Vol. 1 + 2 // Review & Thoughts

I just finished reading volume 2 and realized I did not talk about vol. 1 at all, so let's talk!

The Summer Hikaru Died (story & art by mokomokuren) is a cosmic horror story with a queer-coded complicated relationship, set in rural Japan. Got your interest? Well, you’re in for a ride!

CW: Death; Body & Cosmic Horror; Gay Panic & Homophobia

I honestly don’t remember how I got to know about this… I think someone talked about it in a podcast episode? I remember the concept being very interesting: your friend is gone for a week and when he comes back, it turns out he’s some sort of creature that only our protagonist is aware of.

I read both volumes with a huge time gap—almost an entire year, I think?—and every time I finished one, I was just too stunned to read much of any other thing that day. It’s immersive, it’s creepy, and it has that gay panic vibe only these types of works can give. I love me some fluffy and dramatic romance, but the angsty, scary and out there stuff is what conquers me.

I’ll admit: I thought this was going to be just another BL I’d forget soon enough, so the horror aspect caught me off guard… and I absolutely loved it! It’s intense without being always present. I wouldn’t say it’s psychological horror as the horror is present, but it does not rely on cheap jumpscares. Instead, it builds its tense atmosphere, and the use of cicadas for that is amazing. I remember getting the same anxiety-inducing feeling when reading Higurashi: When They Cry (the visual novel), like the heat is getting to you.

I’m not a huge horror fan. Not that I don’t like it—I love it—but I just can’t find stuff that suits my specific tastes. This one does, and I can’t get enough of it. I love mystery and horror but I hate the kind of horror that relies on visuals to scare the reader. This one managed to have a healthy balance and it serves as the exception.

It has Hikaru’s face. It has Hikaru’s voice. It even has Hikaru’s memories. But whatever came down from the mountains six months ago isn’t Yoshiki’s best friend. Whatever it is, it’s dangerous. Carrying on at school and hanging out as if nothing has changed—as if Hikaru isn’t gone—would be crazy...but when it looks so very like Hikaru...and acts so very like Hikaru…

This story is fantastic. It’s fast-paced, and yet you feel stuck in time, glued to your seat. I sometimes even forgot the background cicada noises I’d play while reading.

This is mysterious, but don’t expect your typical mystery read. This is a slice of life existencial thriller, dealing with bizarre creatures and worst of all—your own feelings.

Mokumokuren’s art is just superb. It’s so unique that if I wasn’t already drawn by the synopsis, I would have read it for the art alone. Not only is the artstyle pleasing to look at, but the way they draw perspectives and play with the shading does wonders to the horror elements.

Also, I have to shoutout to Abigail Blackman (the letterer) and Yen Press! The way the sound effects were inserts in the panels made a world of difference, especially when it comes to the cicada sounds.

The story follows mainly Yoshiki and Hikaru, two best friends in a rural Japanese village. Yoshiki is more of a gloomy kid, while Hikaru (just like his name, “light”) is the sunny, dumb kind. This all changes after the events the synopsis presents, showing Hikaru as more feeling, and even more childish.

These two are so interesting to follow: a co-dependent pair that doesn’t want to admit it and the way this shows through a literal monster is just delicious.

The way Yoshiki feels repulsed towards his friend and his own feelings, while feeling seduced to accept something that might not be so good to him—and yet, it feels right. He misses his friend and feels conflicting feelings towards this new creature inhabiting Hikaru’s body. Is it alright to accept this as Hikaru, or will it never be the same? Are is feelings true when directed to someone who isn’t there anymore?

The way Hikaru tries to come to terms with the meaning for his feelings and what is “Hikaru” and the being’s own identity. His strong feelings of loneliness and feeling overly attached to Yoshiki is something I could definitely relate to.

While there’s nothing explicitely better about queer media, something I’ve noticed is how more subtle and metaphorical dynamics and relationships can be, either because of direct societal prejudice or because of how queer people grow to hide their feelings, in fear of rejection and humiliation. Of course, the latter can also happen with hetero couples, but the feelings of rejection that can lead to co-dependence and loneliness are just that much stronger within the queer sphere, especially amongst gay men—and it’s visceral, to the point of fitting right into the horror realm.

Dealing with the unknown can be scary, and the way mokumokuren portrays this relationship and mixes it with the cosmic horror elements is masterfully done. It feels gross but erotic—like a guilty pleasure you find as a teenager—without ever being pornographic in nature. Hell, there’s not even a kiss or explicit thoughts, it’s all a play of “will they, won’t they” for the readers to munch over. While this is a fast-paced series, it’s also a slow burn when it comes to their relationship.

The writing iself isn’t anything too grand, due to its format. You can’t expect too much of a focus on writing in a visual medium.

I’ll talk about this into more detail in the following paragraphs, but the way the writing mixes with the environment and horror elements is where it peaks. There’s occasional bolding and a play with the font sizes, making it more tense to follow along.

I’ve always loved stories set in rural Japan, but all I’ve read that checked my boxes were set before the 2000s—before smartphones and other modern technologies.

The Summer Hikaru Died is set in contemporaneity and even then, you sometimes forget it. There are occasional shows of a smartphone, and even a mention of the Nintendo Switch, but the rural setting makes it so that feels useless.

When reading Higurashi (which is set in the 80s), I always thought “man, this wouldn’t have happened if they had smartphones” but reading this now, I realize that was a futile thought. Sure, they could use the GPS tracker in moments of panic, or call a friend, but in the moment of fear and paranoia, that could only aggravate a situation. Mokumokuren takes full advantage of that: someone sneaking a glance at a message notification they weren’t supposed to see; being too scared to grab the phone…

The horror elements here were only intensified by the creative use of the format!

The concept for this story by itself isn’t anything unique: things inhabiting our loved ones’ bodies isn’t a new thing. However, the way this trope is used to explore other fears and themes is where it stands out.

The exploration of sexuality mixed with feelings of guilt for both parties; the “what if” scenarios in Yoshiki’s mind that could have saved Hikaru; and the overall way being queer plays into society, especially one such as the rural community in Japan.

It’s not uncommon for queer people to have lost a friend or two, be it to mental health or an STD, and the way homossexuality is sometimes compared to an “illness” by the townfolk, I can see the being inside Hikaru as a personification of his feelings and desires, and how Yoshiki struggles to accept them and his own love.

The series isn’t over, but I strongly recommend checking it out.

The third (and latest) volume comes out in April 16th, and I’m super excited! From the cover alone, it may focus more on the minor cast, such as the group of school friends.

In summary: this is a fast-paced (but slow burn when it comes to the main relationship) horror story, more within the cosmic horror sub-genre. It has BL elements and I personally find it to be the main topic, even if it’s not explicit. If you enjoy these, go for it!

Even if you’re not a fan of BL, I find it interesting and subtle enough most times so even people who aren’t into BL can enjoy it, as long as you enjoy slow-burn horror.

I’ll give all my starts and love to this one, as it’s one of my personal favorites! I’m looking forward to more from mokumokuren!

something about the way carmen sprints to the end of the train and then turns around is so fucking funny. yes that is the last car! congratulations! its a good thing you came up here instead of trapping yourself in the interior of the last car I guess
