Flynn likes to be involved with everything I do. If he sees me crouch down to look at something &/or pick it up, he likes to come & inspect it as well. In case it's interesting. Or edible. Or both.

In this case, I'd found a fossil. According to Flynn this falls in the "Not Interesting" category but he gave it a polite sniff all the same. Like I politely praise him when he finds & shows me puddles & molehills. We humour each other.

Such a teeny tiny fossil! It's one of the smallest I've found. Probably at least 420 million years old, which is just completely wild.

#I've got a fair sized collection of fossils now #mostly either brachiopods - which look like bi-valve molluscs but aren't... & corals #some of the shell fossils are very well preserved & almost look like they came off a beach that day!#I find them on farmland - ploughing turns the soil & they pop up to the surface. also there are 1 or 2 old quarries in the woods #this one was on the footpath - I bent down to pick up Flynn's toy & spotted it #silurian #fossil #shell #england #dog #flynn

I recently heard about a 400-year-old tree in a nearby village, which made me want to estimate the age of the big lime tree behind my house. I measured the circumference at my height then divided by Pi to get the diametre then multiplied by the growth factor for this species—and I learnt that my lime tree is about 255-260 years-old! It was born in the 1760s... I also went and measured some of my beech trees and the oldest ones are ~190 years-old, which makes sense as it’s the age of the house. I’m not sure why this lime tree is so much older than all the other trees on this land, but it makes me want to give it a little plaque, maybe one that says “I was 25 years-old during the French revolution.”

#crawling along #i know my land used to be a forest until the 1820s when most of the trees were cut to create pastures #beech trees were then planted around each pasture to delineate it #then in the 1960s or 70s the farm was downsized and all the pastures except two were abandoned and left to rewild as they pleased #so the trees around my house are 50-60yo at most save for the beech trees enclosing the younger woods like sentinels #i'm guessing the 1820s owners preserved a couple of the pre-existing trees in each pasture to provide shade for the animals?#and the other(s) have been cut since #whatever the reason i'm glad this one lime tree was left alone to live its life!

I've always liked the idea that the clans carve to preserve their history, while the tribe paints

So what about the kittypets?

They sing.

They see their twolegs going around the home, making rythmic noises while they work, so the cats copy.

Kittypets sing about their pasts, about life. They sing to each other and to strangers. They sing about everything. They sing about nothing. Some songs have words, others are just noise. Some songs are long, some are short. Some have been passed down for ages, others made up on the spot.

The clans hear them. They hear those songs, echoing from the twoleg place. Some are tempted to join in, but are prevented. Warned.

reblogging so many cowpokeprose/maybecowboycore posts because, while searching for an old post of theirs (honey you're golden), i found out they'd changed handles and then deleted maybe a year or so ago. still haven't found the one i want to find, but i'm reblogging and screenshotting a lot of the ones i find along the way so i've at least got them stored. i don't know the motivation behind the deletion, so i don't know if my efforts are wanted, but i do know something that mattered a lot to me is a form of lost media now.

You see, now I’m hyper-fixated on G1 Monster High and Ever After High, mostly Ever After High, so now I want to start a rewrite AU thing of my own and use the disappearance of Hexiciah Steam’s team as a catalyst for the crossover. Like, the Evil Queen returning is Act 2 or 3 of the crossover, secret final boss type thing. Act 1 focuses on the missing steampunk dilf. I’d also reorder or cut somethings entirely from both series.

Like, the Catacombs under Monster High are a eldritch nightmare realm constructed by an ancient monster race known as the Builders. They’re near impossible to map out due to their impossible size, full of impossible illusions and tech, just random weirdness. Well, what if the impossible stuff that monster kind doesn’t understand or can’t make sense out of is the result of magic not native to monster kind? What if the Builders used some Ever After and Wonderland magic in their creations in addition to monster magic and tech? What if it spanned several realms?

And like, we’d get the ghouls investigating because Ghoulia finally made progress on her research into what happened to Professor Steam and discovered that the last report of this mad scientist was he was going to go down into the Catacombs with his team to finally prove his Builders theory correct. Cleo is extra interested and invested because the name of one of the listed team members? Her long missing mom. Also Lagoona actually comes along on an adventure for once.

On the Ever After side let’s let Darling be the one to be doing research on magical locations for a school project and figure out where the lost entrance to the Labyrinth is. Idk, some of the girls go with. Definitely Blondie for her Mirrorcast, which means Dexter’s going too because camera man. Cedar goes because of all the fantastic art that’s said to be within the Labyrinth and also “I cannot tell a lie, so if we do find the Labyrinth my word will be proof that this isn’t us pulling a hoax-us-pocus”. Apple and Raven cause we need them, they’re the main characters (and Apple and Darling need to develop together so the Dragon Games payoff is like, a payoff). I also need Briar to come because I love her and this is my self-indulgent rewrite AU thing. Also I can totally picture her telling Lagoona that Gil’s family ain’t shit, love is love, make out with that boy in front of their house while flipping them the bird. Ramona and Cerise because I want a “Werewolf? No, wolfwere” interaction and also for this whole thing to end with Ramona getting Clawdeen’s number. Enemies to lovers arc, annoying little sisters in full force, all that.

I also would want Cupid to come because I just want them all to look at her like “Cupid, you have some explaining to do”.

Idk, I could have it that later when the Evil Queen escapes via something in the Catacombs/Labyrinth it’s revealed that she manipulated things by causing the exact right people to find the exact right documentation at the exact right time. Casting spells from her mirror prison like the villainous queen she literally is.

My prof gave us this giant slab of plywood and said we had to cut it up in 4-6 pieces and rearrange it to make a painting about time and narrative (unless you don’t want to, he said, do whatever). This shit is heavy as fuck but it’s ok because I’m the strongest person in the whole world and nationally renowned arm wrestler. Anyway, I drilled through the front of my panels in 4 places by accident because I forgot to measure the width of the scrap wood i was using to brace the pieces. Idgaf though. Like genuinely I am not sad. Also, the school only allows gamsol in the studios and there are signs about that everywhere but my professor has old man cred and actually made it a requirement that I use linseed oil because he said it was a “shame” how my “beautiful colors” were not allowed to be luminous because the gamsol flattens them so badly. So now I’m being illegal in the studio, but apparently literally everyone has been doing that this whole time. Shout out to me for not being able to discern the severity of certain rules. You can already see the difference tho. The panel with the silhouettes, all the snow was painted with linseed oil. Every other dull matte panel is all gamsol. Anyway this is due Tuesday and I only consider it 50 percent done so wish me luck

#my art #wip #mine is about narrative and time btw!!!#it’s about two similar stories from two different points in my life and I’m trying to overlap them #one when I was 13… was walking around the woods with my brother and friend in the snow and found a severed dear leg #one from just a month or so ago… walked around behind the school with my friend and found a frozen dead fish in the grass #and I wanted to paint snow for this one before I even came up with the concept #AND it has to fit in some way with my first triptych with the hands and teeth… so I’m thinking about decay and preservation #I actually made a comic about the deer leg story for class. but I felt like it was rushed so I never shared it. it’s a cute story tho. imo
