Hoping people have some suggestions. This box turtle has been living on my patio some of the time. This is great, I put a tiny watering hole back there and stuff, mostly expecting possums and bugs, but this guy seems to have decided our patio is good shelter too.

The problem is that we are moving within the next month or two and I am 100% sure the apartment complex will douse the patio in pesticide and herbicide., and I’m worried about this fellow and any other visitors to the area may be hurt.

What should I do?

More adventures with demutated turtles. I can't get over when basking sliders and softshells stretch out their legs, it looks so silly and cute. Mikey's behavior is inspired by videos I've seen of box turtles climbing up their owners for... affection? Or maybe just a bite.

Umm... No, I am NOT coming out! One of our Eastern Box Turtle patients was not excited to receive medication and she decided to stay boxed up in her shell. This is the only turtle species in Virginia that has a hinged bottom shell that allows them to "box" themselves up to protect themselves from predators. However, young box turtles do not develop the ability to close themselves off until they are older, which makes them vulnerable for the first several years of their life.
