i learned about Tim Wong who successfully and singlehandedly repopulated the rare California Pipevine Swallowtail butterfly in San Francisco. In the past few years, he’s cultivated more than 200 pipevine plants (their only food source) and gives thousands of caterpillars to his local Botanical Garden (x)

Hearing somone talk about how it’s “stupid” and “a waste of time” and all that for people to shut down college campuses. For people to protest. For her to say “I’m not saying what’s happening over there is okay but… I just hate that the graduations might get disrupted”. And I’m just thinking about the pictures of shoes with burned out bones in them. And the slush of children carried in bags. I want to throw up. I can look at the gore and the bombs and the death and the pain and I can keep fighting, keep trying to do something, try to help. But to hear someone say that all the deaths “over there” are less important than a goddamn graduation. Im fucking shaking. I don’t know if it’s rage or grief or if there is a distinction.

I cannot understand it. I try. I try to be compassionate to people so I can better guide them, convince them, push them toward Palestinian liberation. But to hear such blatant, utter, disgusting selfishness. I don’t know how to respond to it

the magic of urge surfing is that I get to find out how often “I want to get drunk” is not always what I’m actually feeling. so often, if I just wait it out for a bit, “I want to get drunk” is actually “I’m overwhelmed and I want to go outside to calm down” or “I’m tired and I need a break” or “I’m lonely and need to talk to a friend”.
