Maglor wanders the shores of what used to be Beleriand (now somewhere south of Lindon). His voice is lost amongst the waves crashing against the cliffs, and he wonders what would have become of his fate had he cast himself into the Sea alongside the Silmaril all those centuries ago.
He reaches almost reflexively for his harp, corroded from Ages of mistreatment. Charred fingers twitch against worn strings, muscle memory recalling the motions of the Noldolantë even when his shattered mind does not. His music, too, drowns among the cold waters. When footsteps approach behind him, he does not bother to draw his rusted blade, or even to look back.
"You have lost the touch," he hears. Daeron's voice, quieter than it once was, lingers in the air. "You were better."
The high notes of a flute mingle with the hum of his harp, twin laments wailing into the darkness of the Sea.
Fingon does not play often anymore. Rarely does the mood strike him, and mostly when he is alone, his heart is sorrowful. But at the Mereth Aderthad some merriness of the crowd strikes him, some warmth of the liquor, and he picks up the harp and plays, unthinking, a drinking-song from bygone days. Around him elves laugh and dance, an ocean of swirling silk, and he hears little his own music.
“You have lost the touch,” Maglor says, “you were better.”
Fingon looks down at the joints of his fingers, where feeling has not returned since the ice, and says naught.

High King Maglor AU
Years pass and mourning gives way to grief. Maglor's great laments are sung no more, replaced instead by the steady chants of war. He has honed himself into a deadly blade, become sharp and cruel in the way only a once-kind man could be.
He reaches Morgoth and sings: not the soft, deceptive lullabies of Lúthien, but lashes of brittle anger and searing pain. There is nothing for Morgoth to twist, for his Song has been a tool of the unlight since the first note that rang out over the waters of Alqualondë.
Morgoth is robbed but merely wounded, for none save Fëanor himself could even hope to approach the power to truly assault the Enemy. Entire armies are slain storming the gates of Angband, but Maglor simply gathers who is left and assembles a new force of vengeance.
He is exiled, his closest brother dead, his father and mother long gone across the sea, and those brothers who still live resent his crusade in fear of their father's fate. He has nothing to lose, only memories to care for, and ghosts to avenge.
To slay a Vala is an impossible task, but still High King Maglor musters the remnant of his last army and storms again the throne of Angband.

Reverse Gondolin AU Patch Notes 4/22!
(tagging @general-illyrin @tar-thelien @who-needs-words @bilbo-baggins-is-a-fcking-vibe and anyone else who wants to join!)
🌟 New
Ar-Pharazon joins Sauron after getting disowned, and later becomes the Witch-King of Numenor (thanks to who-needs-words; also there's a fic by who-needs-words and art by tar-thelien now!)
Mordor steals the Numenorean tech. Mordor now has steampunk industrial-revolution level technology.
Lomion and Celebrimbor are married (thanks to the poll); Gil-galad is their collective and adoptive heir. Many feuds are resolved.
Celebrimbor survives but is wounded at the destruction of Eregion. He joins the White Council.
The Kin-strife becomes a proxy-kinslaying-war thanks to Sauron exploiting the tension in Gondor (thanks to who-needs-words)
FA 371 - Erestor Carnistirion born
FA 534 - Wedding of Lomion and Celebrimbor. Gil-galad [possibly son of Orodreth for balance?] is adopted.
SA 3411- Lomion dies to Sauron at the Dagor Orodruin / Battle of Mount Doom. Gil-galad named high king
TA 1640 - Elrond establishes the Elerondo Fortress in the ruins of the Dome of Stars in Osgiliath
TA 1976 - Surviving Numenoreans retreat to the Stronghold of Numenor in Imladris
TA 3018 - Elrond claims the title of High King of the Sindar (for decoy purposes)
TA 3018/3019 - The Fellowship departs. Gil and Glorfindel leave with the Lindon army just ahead of the Fellowship; Elrond and Erestor [Carnistirion] leave not long after. The passing of two armies conceals the path of the Fellowship.
TA 3019 - Dagor Anghabar [name in progress] / Battle of the Dwarrowdelf, between the army of Lindon and the orcs of Moria. Glorfindel kills Durin's Bane.
[ purple = new part of timeline ]
🛠 Fixed
Turgon dies in the Fall of Gondolin by being crushed by a building after going back to look for Elrond & Elros (thanks to who-needs-words)
Oropher & Thranduil find/rescue Elwing; Galadriel and Celeborn take her to Gondolin (thanks to thelien and bilbo-baggins-is-a-fcking-vibe)
Celebrimbor survives with some wounds after the destruction of Eregion. He later joins the White Council and lives with Lomion & Gil-galad in Lindon. (thanks to general-illyrin)
🚧 Ongoing
should Castamir found a naval-based Evil Power (Angros instead of Angmar)
how many Palantiri should be lost - does it make it too weird story wise if there's still a ton of palantiri floating around, especially since celebrimbor is fully capable of using them
how should the Scouring of the Shire work when Lindon is right there - does Lindon get destroyed earlier in the War of the Ring? Currently I have most of the army off w/ Gil around Gondor/Mordor
what happens to Celebrian
do arwen/elladan/elrohir get to do anything important
how to do the Breaking of the Fellowship?? Gandalf refuses to die so far - Glorfindel killed the Balrog (with full energy, full gear, and hair tied back) with far fewer casualties and now Gandalf won't go anywhere. should I still try to get rid of him?
🌱 Upcoming
Scale up major battles (helm's deep, pelennor, isengard, morannon) to account for the presence of two entire extra armies, comprised mostly of Last Alliance veterans (and a handful of Gondolin/Kinslaying/Wrath veterans)
Does Gil-galad die
Figure out the Witch King of Numenor logistics
Figure out what Galadriel and Celebrimbor get to do

(green // blue means two main options, red means i need to think about it more)
The main details I'm figuring out right now are
does Celebrimbor still die at Eregion - I don't think he's getting captured/tortured, but he could still die in the battle. On the other hand, he could probably survive by using Narya & Lomion using Nenya, but that would definitely have repercussions further down the line
how does Idril's deal work - I'm currently thinking of Idril exchanging the location of Gondolin for her family's guaranteed safety, because it seems in character for Reverse Idril? But on the other hand, even if I limit it to immediate family at the time of the oath (tuor, turgon, earendil) then idk where turgon dies? Maybe Maglor can kill him but that seems kind of random
where and how does Turgon die
how does Prince Elrond's character even work
how does Numenor still fall when factoring in Prince Elrond - I'm thinking that the morgoth death cult gained enough traction during the time sauron was there that even after Elrond kicks him out, the cult still sticks around and reemerges later? The Fall still happens, but they never go to attack valinor and there's a good deal more Faithful (maybe 40-60%?)

Lmao imagine if a couple wanted to get married in Lindon or Imladris and saw Elrond and was like “sure why not” and just, asked him to witness their vows in place of any actual maiar or valar.
Like the relationship between the elves in the Valar-Only-Mildly-Care Place and the Valar/Maiar themselves has got to still be stiff since elves are stupidly stubborn about holding grudges, so imagine if a couple just went “fuck the valinor glowsticks, Lord Elrond has been feeding us well and sheltering us for over a century. He’s got some ainur blood anyway.”
So they ask Elrond to be witness and he agrees thinking they just want a lord’s blessing or something and then-
“[Elvish Marriage Vows] we swear in the name of Lord Elrond Peredhel and Eru Illuvatar [More Marriage Vows]”
And at this point Elrond just has to roll with it but he bluescreens later while Erestor and Glorfindel laugh at him (Celebrian and or Gil-Galad too if they’re around)
Bonus points if It becomes a tradition in Imladris/Lindon even though he neutrally suggests a vala instead every time like
Elrond, trying not to get smited as soon as he steps foot into Valinor: hey Lady Yavanna is pretty cool though, right?
Elven Couple, exiled thousands of years ago and still frost-bitten: yes, pity there were no flowers in the Grinding Ice, my Lord. Anyways, would you mind being a witness to our wedding ceremony?”
Elrond starts glowing slightly and never lives it down. He goes to Valinor and people still ask him out of tradition or genuine respect and the Valar just have to put a small tapestry of Elrond as a patron of unions or something so they can claim some sort of control over the situation.
Elrond is mortified, and nobody lets him live it down.

More fun facts:
Nahar is named after the sound a horse makes.
Fingolfin's horse is named Rochallor. "Roch" means "horse" (the rest of the gloss is unknown).
One of Tevildo's friends/servants is named Miaule. As in the word "miaug/meoi", which means "cat" and is also the sound a cat makes.
Draugluin is based on "draug", which means "wolf". (The full name means blue wolf.)
Fun fact:
"Dog" in Middle Quenya is "huan" (glossed as such in 1930's Etymologies).
Which means, you guessed it, Tyelkormo Feanarion, son of a renowned labengolmo, named his magical, given by a Vala dog "Dog". And, quite frankly, should be recognized for that

star wars by silm logic
for the silm-sw dual citizens:
I was wondering what would happen if star wars (particularly tbb bc that's the currently-releasing bit of star wars) adhered to silm logic:
Hunter is the local leader of a hidden city (Pabu)
Omega is the heir
Rex is the overall leader of a warring people (clone rebellion)
Hemlock is the local leader of a branch of the Forces of Evil
Palpatine is the overall Enemy
so therefore
Rex and Echo gather an army of escaped clones. They rescue Cody or Wolffe from the Empire. Song and fire are greatly involved.
Themes of rising hope are invoked as they make a stand against the Empire. The clone rebellion grows further.
They are initially victorious and manage to rescue the clone prisoners from Tantiss with few casualties. Hemlock is ousted and flees to the heart of the Empire (but his operation will return in time)
Echo goes to check on the Batch on Pabu and ask them to ally with him and Rex in the upcoming battle.
They march on Coruscant. Things suddenly go disastrously wrong. Cody is killed in battle. Rex faces Palpatine in single combat.
Rex dies tragically.
Eagles.
Echo tells Hunter about the battle. They are delayed on their way and attempt to ride to the rescue. The Batch arrives just after the deaths. Echo is sad.
Pabu is betrayed while the Batch is on Coruscant.
Pabu is invaded by the Empire. Hemlock subjugates the people into his weird clone experimentation program.
Dragons.
The Batch returns to destroyed/invaded Pabu and is unable to intervene.
While attempting to protect their city most of the Batch dies.
Echo is very sad.
Hunter is captured and killed in front of Omega.
Omega escapes and swears an Oath mourns the Batch.
Echo is broken by grief for the ghosts of his past and vanishes.
Omega later becomes a Rebellion leader, carrying the memories of the failed clone rebellion and the haven of Pabu with her.
Echo fades/dies on some random planet as the forgotten remnant of the GAR/Clone rebellion.

Day 6 - Loss for @silmarillionepistolary
Unfinished Royal Portrait of High King Findekáno
This portrait by an unknown court painter was left unfinished after the High King's tragic death in just the sixteenth year of his reign. It was later recovered from the ruins of Himring Fortress, among several other possessions of the late High King. It is believed to have been left there shortly before Prince Maedhros Feanorion attacked the camp of Eonwë the Herald in a successful attempt to reclaim two Silmarils.

jrr tolkien feanor: CHARGE EM AND THEY SCATTER
already inflicted this on the discord server and decided to make everyone suffer here too
assigning silmarillion elves bad driving habits
feanor: speeds, unless you tailgate, in which case he will slow down until you back off. if he has to stop in the middle of the high way, that's your fault for entering a battle of wills with feanor
fingolfin: tailgates
finarfin: does 5 below the speed limit in the outside lane
maedhros: chronic backseat driver
fingon: incapable of using turn signal unless he has explicitly been reminded by maedhros in the past 15 minutes
maglor: plays music so loudly he cannot hear sirens if an emergency vehicle needs to pass
celegorm: explicitly ignores those special speed limits around schools (either they learn or they die)
curufin: has modified the shit out of his car so the engines are super loud because he thinks it makes him look cool
caranthir: knows the location of every speed and red light camera in tirion. abuses this knowledge.
celebrimbor: on his phone
nerdanel: thinks stop signs are a suggestion (see also: red flags)
finrod: incapable of recognizing when he is too drunk to drive. very insistent he gives his drunk friends a drive home because they're to drunk to drive and he wants them to be SAFE
turgon: tells everyone to get an electric car while not actually having one himself
