on twitter, a viral thread started where people around the world shared their translations of “If I must die”, the last work of Dr Refaat Alareer also known as "the voice of Gaza". A beloved poet, teacher and life-long activist for Palestine, he was recently assassinated along with members of his extended family by a targeted Israeli air strike. His loss leaves a hole in the heart of palestinians all over the world.
Below the cut, I’ll be posting the translations of his poem, with links to the original posts. Unfortunately, tumblr limits posts to a maximum of 30 images. I will update when I can.

Zionists want you to conflate Judaism and Zionism. Zionists want you to believe that Judaism cannot exist without Zionism and that all Jews are Zionists. Zionism would have Jews believe that a Jewish state is the only way that they can be safe from antisemitism and will point to any instance of antisemitism as proof that Zionism is the solution- so Zionism wants gentiles to be antisemitic in their support of Palestine. They want you to conflate all Jews with Zionism and the state of Israel, and they want you to treat all Jews regardless of political affiliation as the face of Israel. Antizionist Jews exist, and incidences of antisemitism ostensibly acting against Zionism will not help dismantle the forces propping Zionism up.
Don't do their work for them.

my last reblog about ASL made me wonder about Palestinian Sign Language. I don't have much time to delve into it right now, but I did find a lengthy 2020 journal article about PSL, written by Mahmoud A. M. Abdel-Fattaha and Khalil M. I. Alawnah for the International Journal of Innovation, Creativity, and Change. here is a direct link to read it.

it’s just heartbreaking to me that people don’t see what’s going on in Palestine as inhumane, as if it’s some sort of reparation, and not what it is, an ethnic cleansing, and feel zero remorse toward it. thousands of people have died, children have died, hospitals have been destroyed. nothing about this is a success or a victory — it’s murder and power on a grand scale.

“Poor Taylor, all she wanted to do was date a racist.” 🥺
Sorry, I can’t hear your “bitching and moaning” over the sounds of my country being bombed. Your complaints and laments over a bigoted man don’t mean anything next to the dead bodies of children in my home country that I’ve had to escape from.
Let’s get one thing clear: being racist is a bad thing.
Having to explain that to a fan base of mostly white people who are privileged is exhausting.
And hearing Taylor Swift call this a point of suffering for her is almost comical. I wonder how she would feel if she actually faced the dangers that people in the global south face on a daily basis.

um, i'm gonna say this as someone who's been watching less than pleasant (to say the least) scenes of war and death across the world but especially in palestine since a very young age that definitely did fuck me up: you don't have to consume graphic media to stand with palestine. some clips and pictures are highly triggering and not everyone can handle that. it's a privilege to look away because they can't, but if looking does more harm to you and your ability to support them, don't expose yourself to too much of it. read, educate, spread awareness, boycott; everyone can help in their own way.
a study has shown that people who are exposed to violent media may be less able to help those in need due to the effect of desensitization.
also if you feel guilty for not being able to cry or react as passionately as you did in the beginning of this aggression, that's your body coping through emotional numbness. it doesn't make you any less human. you just need to consume a different kind of media relevant to the cause and give your body a break.

the problem with all these white authors like rick riordan who are revealing their stances on the israel-palestine apartheid is that they barely do anything but virtue signal when they claim “i’m on the side against war” “i’m anti-violence” “i abhor terrorism.” zero people are going to disagree with you. zero people believe what hamas did is justified. zero people think israel shouldn’t have a right to defend itself against terrorism. but that isn’t what israel is doing when they collectively punish all of palestine, who doesn’t even have an official army. when rick riordan says some wishy-washy bullshit about the violence suffered on both sides of the conflict, and words his whole dumbass blog post like it’s violence that is in any way equal, that literally helps no one. in fact, it’s so damn negligent of the 75 years of violence that palestine has suffered and been oppressed for. yes, there are innocent civilians in israel who are suffering, no one is disagreeing with you. that doesn’t erase the fact that israel is a disgusting state that has used state-sanctioned violence on a systemic scale since its conception, and the oppressed people have responded to that in violent retaliation (because OBVIOUSLY they would). israel is built on the subjugation of palestine, there is no equal suffering between the two.

We really don’t give Noah Schnapp enough props for his acting abilities. It must take a lot of work to play such a kind and compassionate character when you’re actually a massive piece of shit.

how the zionist entity bastardizes the star of david
after destroying a park in gaza, israeli tanks carve a star of david into the ground
this is not new. previously, israeli forces seared the star of david on the face of a palestinian civilian:
reminds me of isis terrorists killing muslims in syria according to 'halal' guidelines. in both cases, a brutal cult (zionists/salafi extremists) uses religion (judaism/islam) as an excuse for violence in a way that seems to mock & disrespect the very religion they claim to follow

LIES: Palestine is murdering civilians.
TRUTH: Palestine is expelling occupiers.
LIES: Palestine is attacking Israel.
TRUTH: Palestine is standing upon its rights in its own lands.
LIES: Hamas is giving Israel reasons to attack them.
TRUTH: Israel has already been attacking Palestinians without a reason for years. Every resistance counts and weakens Israel.
LIES: Israel is the victim.
TRUTH: Israel is suffering for its sins for the innocent children they have killed.

Hey uhm hot take that shouldn’t be hot:
Traumatizing yourself does not count as awareness for a cause.
Yes, don’t ignore it, but don’t doomscroll and purposely go out of your way to look at literal massacred children or self immolation or other carnage and what-have-you, then do nothing about it except reshare it and gush about how it gave you panic attacks and nightmares for the next week.
You’re not helping. You’re turning a fucking genocide into shock content to fuel your white savior complex.
It could’ve happened to YOU had you been born in the wrong place at the wrong time, too.
Have some respect.

as an antizionist jew, it really fucking sucks that every time i see a post about antisemitism i have to scour it to see if it implies or could be interpreted to imply that antizionism is antisemitism. what’s even worse is that it does and it can, every time! it’s gotten to the point where i avoid any discussion of antisemitism at all, because im worried to add any fuel onto that fire.
and it really sucks because it does seem like antisemitism is on the rise! but i can’t fucking tell because all you’ll talk about is a fucking human rights movement that is frequently spearheaded by jewish organizations! get it together!
