You looked at the time. It was eleven p.m., and the streets were empty save for the rare pedestrian. Picking your way past darkened streets and a labyrinth of alleys, you pull your jacket even closer. Whether it was to ward off the cold or to make yourself more inconspicuous, you could not say.
Well y/n, this is what you get for losing track of time at the office.
There was no one now. At least there was no one you would stop to have a casual conversation with. A pervasive fog crept in, making the light from nearby streetlights look strange and almost magical. You could not stop to admire the scene, no matter how much you ached to do so. The fog grew thicker. It was now so cold that your very breath turned to mist before your eyes every time you exhaled. You shivered.
A bottle shattered nearby, forcing you to walk even faster as shadows formed and grew. Worry gnarled at you when those shadows grew and you slipped down another alley, this time a shortcut to your home.
“What’s your name?”
Fuck me. You ignored the question and pretended as if you could not hear. There were footsteps now, growing louder as more than one person followed you down the alley. It was so dark now; there wasn’t going to be any street lights to be found until you reached the other side, and the only light you had to guide was the dim light of a full noon.
“Come on, love, give us a name.”
Shitshitshit.
The alley seemed to stretch on forever. You threw a quick, nervous glance over your shoulder. There were at least three people—that much, you could say. You fumbled around in your bag for your phone, then cursed yourself when you realized the battery had died just as you were about to board the train. You could not call him, and he insisted on being called when you left your place of work. The footsteps grew louder and were followed by laughter. You kept your eye on the end of the alley, hoping and praying he could feel your dread through the bond you shared with him.
Breathe. One step forward. Then another. Breathe again.
The words repeated themselves over and over again, like a prayer. Someone drew near. In fact, it made the hair on the back of your neck stand up even as fear chilled your heart. You braced yourself, then shook when a sudden rush of cold wind brushed past your arm.
“Who the fuck are you?”
The question was full of confusion and thick with terror. You turned, your sight now blocked by a towering figure garbed in rich black velvet.
“The question should be, who the fuck are you?” Maglor drawled in that soft, angelic voice of his. “And more importantly, who the fuck do any of you think you are, following my lady like this?"
You looked around his arm. The man—at least it was a man—took a step back, startled. “We meant no harm,” he muttered quickly, and took another step back. “We just wanted to know her name and—”
Maglor growled—vicious and otherworldly. The walls around you vibrated from the power it held. “Finish that sentence,” he warned, “and it will be the last thing you ever say.”
He then bared his teeth. The others fell back, then turned on their heels and ran. Once the alley was empty of them, Maglor turned to face you.
“You are cold. Let’s get you home.”
“The others… they saw your…”
“My fangs?” Maglor chuckled. “No one will believe them. And they will not say a word, not unless they want to give themselves away.”
“But they could come back,” you protested. “They would be ready.”
“I will take care of it,” he vowed under his breath.
“Maglor.” You stopped and looked back the way you came. Then you looked at him. His fangs were gone, but his eyes still shone with a strange, reflective light. “You promised not to harm anyone.”
“I am not going to harm them, little one.” Maglor leaned in, his eyes now bright with mischief. “I will simply glamor them into behaving. Then anyone who walks this way will be safe.”
He laughed when you rolled your eyes and stomped the rest of the way. “I envy that, being able to flutter your pretty eyelashes and glamor someone. Alright. Glamor away.”
The walk home was pleasant after that, but the experience left you shaken. Maglor questioned you, bit his tongue when you told him about the phone, then made you swear to call him once you were ready to leave work, so he could accompany you and keep you safe.
“You do not have to do all of that,” you contested. It may endanger him. Someone may see him for what he truly was. A vampire. “Really. You don’t need to—”
"Let me do this for you. It would honor me if you did."
"Alright. And thank you for saving me from them. I don't know how to even thank you."
"I've got you, darling. Alright?” Maglor drew you into a loose embrace. “And if anyone tries to hurt you, I will rip them to shreds."
“Maglor!”
His laughter did a great deal to throw off the chills that had gripped your heart. You finally felt safe.

Thinking of the possibility of Quincey being in Tolkien's battalion and them meeting and being friends. Maybe Quincey loves fantasy stories (and his family's tale of fighting a destructive ancient evil) and Tolkien shared some of his Fall Of Gondolin drafts with him. Maybe he told Quincey of Lúthien who chose to become mortal and to share his beloved Beren's fate, and it reminded him of his parents' love.
Ahhhh I’ve had the same thought! Can definitely see Quincey drawing parallels between the Legendrium stories and what his family —both parents and extended—have gone through.
Years later when he reads Lotr the camaraderie of the Fellowship also makes him think of them

Under the star-filled sky
Tumblr media
The former elven prince, Maglor, lives a lonely life as a vampire after his misfortune of taking his brother's place and escaping Morgoth's captivity. But one night, the cold snowy wind brought him his fate.
Warnings: mentions of violence, torture, death, suicide, turning into a vampire, blood. Don't worry this has a wholesome ending.
-------------------------------
It all began before the birth of the sun and the moon when the Noldor arrived in the vast lands of Beleriand and lost their high king Feanor to the attack of the Balrogs. Morgoth had sent an embassy to offer a peace treaty and promised to surrender the silmarils. However, Maedhros, the newly crowned high king, and his kin doubted the Black enemy's words, even though he desired to have the silmarils returned. Sensing treachery, Maglor volunteered to go in his brother's stead so they would not lose another high king to the dark lord’s tricks. Maedhros objected to the idea, but after deep persuasion, he allowed his brother to go.
As suspected, the dark lord had sent a larger force than agreed upon to meet with Maglor's embassy, slaying all of his guards and taking him as a captive.
Morgoth sent out word that he would be released if they forsook their war and left Beleriand. Though devastated by the loss of his younger brother, Maedhros refused out of spite and mistrust of the enemy's word and thus began the long terrible years of torture for Maglor Feanorion.
He endured many terrible things at the hands of his hosts. He held on to his pride and hoped he would eventually escape, but his resolve slowly crumbled each year until the enemy ruined the most precious thing for him—music.
He fell into deep despair, and in his madness – he attempted to free himself through death. However, Morgoth in his cruelty did not allow him such a thing and forced the prince to drink the blood of vampires, which healed him of his wounds and saved him from death. It also resulted in him turning into one of the wretched creatures, giving him fangs and turning his arms into large wings.
Despising what he had become yet seeing a chance of escape – Maglor broke free from his chains and escaped the Iron hell in the form of a great bat. He flew away through the night sky, never to be seen among his kin or anywhere else.
He did not dare to return to his kin as he was now one of the wretched vampires. He found his home in a lonely forest and hid away from the sun and the prying eyes of elves and humans who arrived soon after the birth of the sun and moon. He only came out at night to feed on fruits and berries his body allowed him to eat — not willing to quench his hunger with blood even though it made his body weak and sometimes sick.
He could not bring himself to sing anything beautiful. The enemy had twisted the meaning of music into something dark and terrible where it would only hurt his ears. He also suffered an injury to his throat, where prolonged use of his voice would cause him severe pain to his throat. He could talk, but he could no longer sing.
It broke his heart to lose the gift he was born with, but he couldn't let go of his love for songs and music, so the only thing he could do was humm soft melodies filled with sorrow and loneliness.
Those who happened to pass through his forest and hear his sorrowful humming would be struck with sorrow and not dare to try to find him, not out of fear but to avoid causing further heartbreak. Through those people, rumors were born, and he was known as the Weeping Spirit of the Forest.
Many years pass. Maglor yearned to see his family again yet was fearful since he no longer resembled one of the Eldar. He held no doubt that they would see him as a monster and take his life since creatures and the thralls of Morgoth are not to be trusted.
It felt like a punishment for his crimes — to live his immortal life as a monster, never to be welcomed by anyone. He was forever alone until...one night.
He was seated on a tree branch, eating berries and pomegranates he managed to find during his flight. The tangy yet sweet taste of the red fruit graced his lips as he munched through the skin with his teeth, spitting out the inedible parts and enjoying his nightly dinner. Flying and his keen senses made it easy for him to find food, and he did not mind eating fruits and berries — it made him feel somewhat like the elf he used to be.
It was a quiet night, like always, but then something happened.
His long furry ears caught running, and suddenly a brush of cold wind blew against him, making him shudder from the sudden cold.
Something suddenly appeared from the forest. Maglor was startled yet intrigued as he laid his eyes upon you. Your skin was covered with patterns of frost, and your claws looked like they were carved from ice — sharp and deadly. A row of sharp teeth filled your mouth, and you had eyes pale as the moon.
Maglor was curious as you looked human, yet your appearance made it clear you were not. You were a creature he had never seen before, a creature of snow.
You snapped your eyes toward the vampire on the tree branch and were captivated by what you saw.
His messy dark hair curled and nearly glowed in the moonlight, resembling dark waves of the sea. Two large bat wings hugged his body, and your nose picked up the scent of berries and pomegranates emanating from his hands. You could see two fuzzy ears peeking out beneath his hair while his silvery eyes glimmered like two bright stones in the darkness.
You were mesmerized, to say at least. You do not believe you have seen someone so beautiful before— especially a vampire. From the length of his hair and the shine in his eyes, you could tell he used to be an elf. Only they would possess such light behind their eyes.
Maglor grew anxious as you two locked eyes with each other. He grew frightful by the sight of blood that covered your claws, so he dropped his food and prepared to fly away.
"An angel?" you gasped with your slightly distorted voice.
Maglor stopped when he heard you say that. He has never heard anyone say such a thing about him. He was baffled and filled with newfound courage as he turned to look at you.
"Wait..." he started with his quiet voice. "You're not...afraid of me?" he questioned with a curious frown.
"Not at all..." you answered with a smile. "I think you're one of the most beautiful creatures I have seen on these lands so far," you stated, wonder reflected in your moonlike eyes. Maglor felt his heart beat faster as he sensed no lies in your voice—you said it wholeheartedly and with earnest sincerity.
“Oh! Forgive me! That must have been rude of me,” you looked down in shame. "Why...why would you think that?" Maglor questioned, startled to hear such a thing.
"Well… we just met, and my hands are covered in blood. I must be disgusting to look at," you motioned to your bloodied hands, speaking lowly of yourself. Maglor felt his heart twist in pain. "I don't think so at all," he said, making you look at him. "You... don't think I'm disgusting to look at?" you asked. "No," he shook his head. "I think you're very sweet, like a gentle snow breeze, and the icy patterns on your skin remind me of the finest art I have ever seen," he said, feeling himself become bolder.
"Oh," your face warmed up from the sudden praise. You couldn't help but giggle and release a shy smile.
Maglor felt his heart skip a beat and his face warm up when he realized what he said, but when he saw your smile — he couldn't help but smile bashfully in return. A sense of shyness overtook him, a feeling he had not experienced for a long time. It was a surprising yet wonderful feeling.
And thus– the lonely night prince was no longer lonely as he found his fate intertwined with yours, an edain with a strange curse.

Blood - Chapter 4
-> Chapter 3
Tumblr media
Nice, tame little chapter about the opposite side of things...
@mismaeve @heilith thank you so much for reading, my friends <3
Words: 1,5 k
Warnings: Vampires, threats, stalking

Chapter 4: Caranthir
“Ding Dong, the old hag is dead,” Celegorm declared joyously as he strode into his brother’s room with the self-evident confidence of an older sibling. “You can go get that maiden you had your eye on for so long.”
Caranthir grimaced uncomfortably; he had been derided cruelly – and unfairly by his reckoning – by his siblings for having agreed to the period of grace the ailing woman had begged for. What difference would a few months or even years make to one such as him after all?
Generally, the townspeople were rather forgiving when it came to their young daughters and sons being called into the mansion, never to return to the familial fold. Not all of them were dead, of course, but those who had survived their arrival in the household had long outlived their own parents and siblings and were changed beyond recognition.
It was practical and efficient to wait until Agnes – the maiden he had chosen after seeing her strolling along the forest edge one evening – would not leave behind any witnesses who could get it into their heads to come looking for her.
“I’ll go get her then,” he grumbled, pushing aside his annoying older brother. No doubt, Celegorm had informed the others before telling him and the pressure to dutifully reel in the young woman was on.
Impatience and a gnawing sense of foreboding plagued him the whole day as he glared at the walls, waiting for the merciless sun to go down so he could sneak down into the village and remind Agnes of the promise her mother had made.
When he arrived at the deserted cottage though, the whole extent of his own foolishness hit him like a slap in the face. She was gone.
“Looking for the girl?” an old, toothless crone asked without meeting his cold eye. “She’s gone to visit an aunt after her mother died. Dear Aggie was expected back yesterday, but she’s never arrived.”
“How do you know?” Caranthir hissed sharply; the dull grey of dusk was quickly darkening into shades of blue and black and he should have been able to breathe better.
“She’s sent a message with one of the travelling merchants,” the woman informed him in a clipped tone, evidently ill at ease to be addressing one of the fine folks who were seldom seen in their simple, rustic village. “I hope she’s not been turned around in that accursed forest. Nobody will go in there to go look for her and it is said that horses and other beasts lose their nerve under those evil trees.”
Spinning around too fast for her dim eyes to follow – a dangerously careless action – Caranthir pulled back his clawed hands at the last moment before he could strangle the crone where she stood. “Worry not,” he purred in a frighteningly smooth voice, “if she’s in the forest, we shall search and find her.”
Without acknowledging her trembling words of gratitude, he turned on his heels and headed back home.
Tumblr media
“Why the long face?” Curufin sat on the wide stairs, fiddling with something at a dizzying speed. “Where is the girl?”
“She’s missing,” Caranthir growled. “One of the townswomen thinks she might have lost her way in the forest.”
At that, his brother looked up sharply and – setting down whatever it had been he had been deconstructing and putting back together – he inserted his fingers into the corners of his mouth and gave a sharp whistle.
“I doubt that you’d send Celegorm after her,” Curufin explained with a knowing smile before turning to their youngest brothers – infamous twins and apt hunters – to task them with finding any traces of the misplaced quarry.
“What is the matter?” Maedhros strolled into the foyer, the very picture of self-possessed calm which made Caranthir loathe him intensely.
“Moryo has lost that girl from the village he had his eye on,” Curufin tattled carelessly. “The twins will see what they can find out. In the meantime, what’s for dinner?”
Tumblr media
“Not good,” Amrod whispered as they stepped out onto a bright clearing; the night was fading fast now, and they needed to get back to the safety of their mansion if they didn’t want to risk spending the whole day in some nearby caves without ascertaining first that there would be no sunlight filtering through crevices in the rock in the most uncomfortable patterns.
“If he has her,” Amras agreed, “then we have a serious problem on our hands.”
They exchanged a long look as they crept a bit closer to the hidden entrance to the halls of the Woodland King; something in the air told them that their quarry was alive yet and the fact that she was just beyond their reach filled them with frustration and maddening impatience.
Nonetheless, time was running out and so were their options at the given moment.
“That’s beyond our competencies.” They shrugged in perfect synchronicity; conflicts with other covens were for their older brothers to deal with and they would not even try to convince the master of this enchanted realm to hand over the prey of another vampire just because his brothers said so.
“Moryo will be so terribly cross though, no matter what he actually wants her for. He can be stubborn like that!” It didn’t matter who had voiced their shared thought or if it had been spoken aloud at all, they both knew that they’d be the bearers of dark and distressing news.
Flitting homewards, they didn’t spare a single glance backwards; the girl was not theirs to chase nor secure and thus, they had no qualms about leaving her to her fate deep within the bowels of an underground kingdom in which they’d find no sanctuary from the burning day.
They arrived just in the nick of time to find their brothers assembled, sated and yet tense, in the gloomy salon of their mansion, evidently awaiting their return and their assessment of the situation.
“Thranduil,” Maglor mused quietly as soon as they had finished their report, “interesting! I wonder what he wants with that insipid, little creature.”
“Defying us,” Celegorm spat; he had been locked in for too long and was spoiling for a fight. “He is disrespecting our family and our claims.”
Immediately, loud and belligerent discussions broke out that were cut off abruptly by Maedhros lifting his hands – tense palms outwards – and clearing his throat a few times.
“Brother,” he then asked Caranthir, “do you insist upon your claim? If so, I shall go and try to reason with Thranduil. No doubt, he has been aware or was made aware of our claim on this woman’s blood and life. It would be callous and outright treasonous to deny our rights.”
Gratitude flooded Caranthir’s face in a hot flush as he nodded gravely; he could not explain to the others what he had seen and still saw in young Agnes but he wanted her for his own. Maybe, it had been her melodious chuckle – surprised but exempt from terror – upon seeing him lurking in the shadows.
There was a fearlessness in her calm, acquiescent demeanour that had intrigued him and – if he was completely honest – her headlong flight only made her more interesting to him. What had she thought she’d achieve?
“So be it then,” Maedhros sighed. “I shall go and see if I can get her back. You stay here and keep out of trouble while I am away!”
Another long day of pacing and waiting was upon them during which Maedhros locked himself in the library to discuss his battle plan with Maglor; while his oldest brother was the most diplomatic, Caranthir could not deny that Maglor was probably the most charming and had a vast array of rhetorical skills that made people believe that they were acting in their own best interest when it was really he who was leading the dance.
Despite being truly thankful, Caranthir also resented the fact that he was not consulted on the matter; Agnes was his prey after all, but he was sent away like an unruly child who had made a mess of things. He hated the quiet suspicion that this was actually the case; it hurt his pride to know that his older brothers would have to intervene on his behalf, but he also had to admit that he would not have been able to approach this matter with the delicate tact that undoubtedly would be needed if they didn’t want to cause another nocturnal war to break out.
“Nelyo will get her back,” Celegorm grinned; it was a sharp, cruel smile that didn’t even try to dissimulate the unspoken threat of what he’d do if their elders were to fail in their quest.
Caranthir found himself hoping fervently, childishly, desperately that, indeed, Maedhros would succeed for Curufin had been right when insinuating that Caranthir didn’t deem his chosen prey safe within the merciless clutches of Celegorm the hunter.
“I am almost hurt I was not asked to retrieve her,” Celegorm quipped as if reading the thoughts behind Caranthir’s stern brow. “I am the one with the hound after all.”
“We know where she is,” Caranthir shot back acidly. “There is no need for tracking anymore. We just need to get her back. I just need to get her back.”
Tumblr media
So, that was a tiny insight into the motivations and sorrows of the other side.
Lots of love from me <3

Welp, WIP Wednesday
i was tagged by @meadowlarkx to share a snippet of a WiP. as per usual i will self-indulgently post a whole-ass scene
If he’d been wiser, perhaps Canto Goldsmith would be rich. There are ways to grow capital that need only time, a steady accumulation of percentages and figures. You must have some starting sum, easily enough conjured by performance fees or artifact sales or his translation-work. He is not stupid; he could learn to manage his money, if he put his mind to it, and if he had done so he might by now, have the capital to raise up the streets on the lower East-side of Minas Tirith university into a place worth looking at, a place where children need not sleep shivering on dirty street corners, where windows are covered with good double-paned glass instead of hastily-nailed wooden boards, where there are shops and parks and flower-pots on the windowsills.
But he has not, until recently, seen any use in having money beyond material survival. His focus had been too inwards. He’d thought to be build nothing.
So what is there now?
What he does not need for his rent he gives away thoughtlessly, still, because he cannot stomach to save it even to good purpose. They know him and follow him, the dancing drunks, the street-children, the beaten stray dogs, and he cannot help but give whatever he carries. It has been so for some fifty or sixty years; those who noticed this fact spread stories of him, praise and fear in equal measure. Once, on a particularly cold night, he’d overheard voices beneath his window, two street urchins who had followed him through town debating if the vampire would let them sleep by his stove, if they knocked.
He had.
One of those girls ambushes him on his doorstep quite often, now. There is something of the old way in her manner, some pride absent in many of her peers. She wishes to trade, to sell, to bargain; she must be coaxed into gifts.
Today she has brought him a porcelain figure, dinged and cracked in places. It small enough to fit easily in his hand; two little girls, sisters, one carrying flowers and one a lamb. The older of the two is fair-headed and tall; porcelain has chipped off on some part of her chin and all the fingers of her right hand. The younger is darker and more whole, looking up wide-eyed at the other girl. In one hand she carries a basket of lilies, in the other a horn, which she raises to her lips to blow on.
Goldsmith runs scarred fingers over the smooth coat of the paint, then the cracks on the older girl’s face, rough and crumbling. They are bringing the lamb to slaughter, he thinks.
“Beautiful,” he says, “I am not sure I could pay you what it is worth.”

End of Year Fic Recs <3
Happy New Year y'all!!!! I got tagged by both @deadqueernoldor & @camille-lachenille for this and what better day to fill it out than December 31st.
I must confess I haven't had the time or energy to read a lot of fics this year, but this is a great excuse to look back on the ones I have read and sort through my bookmarks!!!! I am going to cheat for some of these, purely because I'm very behind on fic reading. So not all of these will be fics that were posted this year, but they're fics that I read this year and loved.
So here we go with some recs:
Recommend up to 5 series or multi-chapter fics from 2023 that everyone should read (multi-year WIPs count, if the last update was in 2023).
Prefacing this by saying that I have not kept up with a lot of multichaptered fics this year 😭 but I will try to rec some that I have been religiously reading!
1. Sacrifice - Sekikaru (unsure if the author is on tumblr, nothing comes up for the tag!) [Original Fiction]
Hanyu is a human who has been delivered as a sacrifice to one of the powerful seafaring beings his people worship as gods. Antony is a bored vampire looking forward to a simple meal and a quiet new servant. Neither gets quite what he is expecting. But as old enemies resurface and the old order proves unsustainable, they might just find in each other exactly what they need.
Listennnn I read this on a whim while sick one day and it gripped me instantly. Every OC is fantastic. It's outstandingly queer. The author explores a lot of really difficult topics with incredible depth and care, and there have been points at the plot where I have yelled out loud or fist pumped. It's insane. It is so, so, so good. Rated E, though, and not just for smut. It can get very intense at some points. It is so, so so good. I've been meaning to do art for it one of these days.
2. The Secret of Formenos House - @jaz-the-bard
Once, Maedhros and Fingon were engaged to be married, before Maedhros broke it off for reasons unknown, and with his family took to the secluded manor of Formenos House. After their departure, only Maedhros ever came to Lindon to speak with his other kin again. The truth was that in the isolation of Formenos House a curse came upon Fëanor and his children, killing nearly all of them and leaving Formenos widely considered to be haunted. But when the curse abates from Maglor unexpectedly, he and Maedhros discover that they are now the guardians of two very sick children whose parents were lost at sea. Maedhros and Maglor might not be the caretakers Elrond and Elros need, unable to give them the spotless reputations they need to make their way in Society as orphans, but once the twins recover, they refuse to be sent to anyone else. It's up to the last remaining lords of Formenos House to turn the manor into a home.
I'm behind on this but it's Jaz, it's a Victorian AU, it's a kidnap fam. WHAT'S NOT TO LOVE. It's so good.
3. Aemond, First of His Name - @ellrond
Aegon Targaryen was never fit for rule. He begged with his brother to let him disappear, and his brother helped him. Said brother took the burden upon his shoulders to rule as king, and to crush the threat of Rhaenyra Targaryen. Canon divergence, Aemond is king and Aegon, not allowed to disappear for fear of inciting rebellion, has been sworn to his brother’s Kingsguard. Heavy Aemond/Helaena. Chapters with smut will be described as such.
EXCELLENT. STELLAR. OUTSTANDING. Prose, at times, feels just like GRRM's. The characterization is perfect. It's so delicious. I love it so much and the plot bunny is so intriguing!
4. We Will Make This Place Our Home - @leucisticpuffin
Elrond and Elros are sent to live with their distant cousins in a house that is crumbling slowly to pieces. They aren't especially happy about this. For Maedhros and Maglor, the twins are a rare chance to start living again. It will take a lot of work to turn a house full of ghosts into anything resembling a home.
Once again, a kidnap fam AU that I'm terribly behind on but enjoying nonetheless!!!! Excellent characterization and writing. I know I keep saying that, but that's what's really important to me in fics -- so naturally I love this one!
5. Vincarna - morgana-deryn (unsure if author is on Tumblr, if anyone knows lmk so I can tag them!)
When her life went from bad, to worse, to unbearable, she prayed for change. She could never have expected the answer she got. It came in the form of creatures that shouldn't exist, in a city too beautiful for words, in a heart that no longer beat. It should have been impossible, and yet there she was, living a life she wouldn't have been able to dream for herself. Elrond/OFC slowburn friends to lovers
Another one of those fics I picked up while sick and then really, really loved. The OC is a really well fleshed out human, with lots of wants, needs, trauma, and skills - and the Elrond characterization is perfect! I also really enjoyed the language barrier. It's something that gets ignored in a lot of these kinds of fics, but it's handled really well here!
Recommend up to 5 single chapter fics/one-shots (long or short) from 2023 that everyone should read.
Without the Leave of Thee - @jaz-the-bard
Celebrían is hosting a fairy revel, and she's determined to impress Elrond, who's promised to be in attendance. It's hard to hold herself back from stealing him away as the fae do to their lovers, but she knows it'd be a bad idea. But what is she supposed to do, when Elrond goes and eats from the basket of magic pears from her garden?
What can I say? This was a gift for me and it's Celrond + Fae elves it's like a no brainer. Jaz is a genius and the prose is so damn pretty & the characterization is PERFECT.
2. The First Water - @ellrond
“How did we first meet?” “You gave me water.” The first meeting of Galadriel and Elrond as a child is mentioned in Rings of Power. This is an incorporation of the kidnapping of Elrond and Elros by Maedhros and Maglor with that story. Not very happy.
Amazing fic based on one of my favorite moments in the show, and one of the moments I found most intriguing. The prose is really vivid and I just loved the portrayals of both Galadriel and Elwing in this.
3. Stirring - @slightnettles
Just a mostly sappy vignette for Rings of Power Valentine's Week. (Day 1: OTP)
Brimbrond is my other Elrond otp, and @slightnettles writes them perfectly. I adore this fic & come back to it often.
4. I Promise You You're Not Broken (I Promise You There's More) - @maglor-my-beloved
It is late in the evening when Celebrimbor is informed of the Elf who had arrived at the gates of Ost-in-Edhil and yielded to the guards, pleading to be brought to the realm's Lord. A strange Elf comes to Eregion. Celebrimbor meets a long-lost cousin.
So many pretty turns of phrase!!! So many incredible descriptions!!! I am just obsessed with the idea of Celebrimbor taking Maeglin in. AAA.
5. Braided - @glorf1ndel
Artanis and Celeborn are fascinated by each other's braids.
Hair customs among the elves!!!!!!!! Celeborn x Galadriel!!!! EVERYTHING I LOVE. Plus it is so well written!!!!
6. (I know, I'm cheating. I love this fic though!) A Million Miles Apart (I hold you close) - @raointean
"Elrond took a sharp breath in surprise. Eärendil’s fëa was not white-hot and blindingly bright like he had imagined the soul of a star to be. It was instead vibrantly colorful and full of life." OR Elrond speaks to his father for the first time since he left.
Listen. If you've followed me for some time you know I'm very iffy on my feelings about Eärendil. This fic made me like him.
Recommend up to 5 fics NOT from 2023 that everyone should read (oldies but goodies.)
Sugar and Diamonds - @nocompromise-noregrets
Celebrían, visiting Imladris for Midwinter with her mother, has a very important conversation with Elrond.
This was a gift for me and I'm obsessed with it. Celrond getting together!!!!! <3 <3 <3
2. bijebtorv’afâh - @arofili
Fíli comes to terms with his identity.
When I say this fic lives RENT FREE in my brain!!! The worldbuilding, the bead-making, Fili...everything is so good. Read it read it read it.
3. All The Ways to Love - @thatfeanorian
When Fingon is forced into an arranged marriage with a cousin he has never met before, he expects the worst. Soon, however, he will realize that Maedhros is not at all what he expected and might in fact be exactly what he has been looking for his whole life. featuring Mae's terrible mental health, Fingon's stubborn determination to make Mae love himself, and Feanor who naturally tries to ruin everything.
I know I recommend this fic regularly but it just hits all my buttons, okay? It's formative Russingon for me. I love it to death & reread whenever I'm sad!
4. All That Is Left - @tuuliii
When Nerdanel has finished the face of Fëanor she looks him in the eye, satisfied. "Some of my best work", she says and strokes his cheek. A tear glides down her own and falls to the while marble floor. "You left me. You left me and now all that is left of you are statues…” A story about Nerdanel and her family in five parts.
My favorite Nerdanel character study. It's so fucking good.
5. Under Strange Stars - @idrilsscribe
Barely a long-year after the Last Alliance all is not well in Imladris. Elrond's household has been dealt a crippling blow: a very young Elrohir has disappeared. After decades of false leads he is found in the Far South of Middle-Earth. Can Glorfindel rescue the House of Earendil once more? His task is not an easy one: Elrohir has no memory of who he was, and little interest in leaving his people's fight against the Black Númenóreans of Umbar ...
One of the first LOTR fics I ever read, and it's a favorite. I recommend this one a lot, too, but for good reason!!! The whole series is excellent and honestly just peerless.
Recommend up to 5 of your own fics (completed or WIP) from 2023 that everyone should read.
I actually haven't done a lot this year. Here's what I've been working on:
Beneath a Boundless Sky (WIP)
Set directly after the events of And the Stars Shine the Same -- Elrond’s two new wards both struggle to feel at home in Rivendell. The wounds from their slavery in King Frumgar’s court are still fresh, and the scars are deep -- and they’re not the only ones. Maglor is home at last, but each day he lives he is haunted by guilt and grief. Elrond is nothing if not patient, and he is certain that given enough time in Rivendell, all three will heal. Meanwhile, the twins set out to join Legolas and investigate the source of the mysterious Shadow which attacked Rivendell, but are held up in Rhovanion. In Greenwood, something evil festers beneath the trees. Only Lothlorien, protected by Nenya, seems to be safe...but for how long? Rhovanion stands on the brink of political catastrophe. Sickness spreads through the Misty Mountains, and to make matters worse...something is wrong with the children. A story about dysfunction and trauma, healing, the breaking of trust and of regaining it, and also the birth of the Kingdom of Rohan, redemption, and hope...if I can pull it off. No graphic depictions, some dark content ahead, mature themes.
This one is a continuation of the And the Stars Shine the Same series! Elrond centric, focusing mostly on the Peredhil fam -- but there are a lot of OCs and sideplots, too :)
To Partake (WIP, rated E.)
Even if it takes until the breaking of the world, Celebrimbor is determined to help Elrond feel comfortable in his own bones. He is too precious a creature to hate himself so much. (Or, the one where shortly before the scheduled mission to Khazad-dûm, Gil-Galad offers Celebrimbor a taste of his herald. Celebrimbor accepts, and regrets it.)
Based on the characterizations in Rings of Power, because I wanted to put the relationship between Elrond and Gil-Galad in the first season of the show under a microscope, but it isn't necessary to have seen the show to read this fic. I veer completely off of the canon events of the show after episode 5, and simply never return to the show's plot -- sticking a lot closer to the Silm.
There are several really difficult scenes in the fic, but I have tried to be very thorough in warning readers at the start of the associated chapters. If you really love Gil though this might not be a fic for you. He is uhhhhh--- well I am trying to fix him, but he remains a very large looming antagonist so far.
Really, it's an Elrond character study (exploring how his childhood trauma affects his current relationships with everyone in the second age, and how he grows into the strong leader we all know and love) disguised as shipfic porn. It's got me in an absolute vice rn. I've had such a blast working on it.

The Silmarillion Elves Finding My Mutual's Blog
AN: why am I doing this? Lack of brain cells, I tell you. But here we go (lmk if you would like to be removed...I don't intend to offend anyone). A small gift for mutuals and feel free to add more blogs if needed.
Summary: How would characters from the Silmarillion react to finding my mutual's blogs. Purely based on my interpretation which may or may not be messed up.
Tumblr media
@asianbutnotjapanese: the loremaster with all the records. Elrond and Finrod. Do I need to say more? This trio would sit together to appreciate all the writings together. A group that thrives together as they compare their findings.
Finrod's appreciation might originate in the form of odes complimented by the notes of his harp.
Kings and queens of reblogging stuff for easier access.
Tumblr media
@doodle-pops: There's going to be a crowd here. But the chief guest of this gathering can be none other than Fingon. Accompanied by Glorfindel and Fingolfin (because I see you with that sugar daddy fic Mina).
I completely expect Fingon to encounter the blog, binge-read everything and then create his own the very next day (and yes, he will write the most cursed ships). This elf will create multiple other accounts to comment on the Fingon fics...Will jokingly compare the note count of his fic with that of Maedhros'.
Glorfindel is just another golden retriever. He will meticulously thank you and the rebloggers (celebrates humbly at his popularity). And he will be the one to send super sweet 'you're amazing' kind of asks to the writer.
Fingofin will become an established annon on the blog. No one knows it's him. His online personality is 180 from his real life. (He's got some ships and opinions and mans won't stop from stating them *aggressively*.
Tumblr media
@a-world-of-whimsy-5: The Ainur. Sauron, Namo, and Irmo (Manwe and Eonwe are lurking) are here and they will read everything. Don't be surprised if you get a bunch of passionate Sauron requests by an 'annon' the next day. Very specific requests.
Irmo on the other hand reads even the spiciest fics with a poker face late at night. I can just imagine him laying with his phone in his hand as he scrolls through the blog. A quiet existence but don't be surprised when you wake up with 50 notes and a new followers.
Namo will start by restraining himself to the sfw fics but somehow ends up reading nsfw and goes down the rabbit hole. Next day the he can't look anyone in the eye (especially Manwe). Decides never to do that again only to come back for more (don't even bring him close to hurt no comfort, this Ainur cried for Luthien. He can't handle angst).
Tumblr media
@wandererindreams: Ulmo, Manwe, Eru, and The Void. Just a merry group having existential conversations. You all would be sitting there with your copy of texts and believe me Eru will pull out receipts to prove shit.
The sight of the Void being hyped by all the extensive headcanons...chef's kiss. Literal black hole feels included in the fandom for the first time.
Manwe and Ulmo would be there with wisdom and appreciation for your deep contemplation. Both commenting their piece and views about the subject in lengthy comments.
Eru will be taking notes. I can envision Iluvatar, playing devil's advocate (ironic) and arguing against anything and everything. Eru likes hooman who challenge him (ask Numenorians).
Tumblr media
@animatorweirdo: Maglor and Sauron. The second eldest Feanorian will be found blushing as he reads your works and he will revisit the blog in bouts of day-dreaming of his true love. Leaves adorable emojis in the comments.
Believe me, Sauron would get some pretty interesting ideas from all your sci-fi fics. Now he really really really needs a vampire plus werewolf SO so bad. This maia will flourish under all the attention given to him. Follows fervently but will like sparingly (he's got an image to maintain).
I would also spy a lingering Maedhros but he's got the tired mom energy so he'll be a flickering presence who remembers Tumblr once every 3 months.
Tumblr media
Lamemaster: dead. Feanor or Finwe will smite me the second they see my blog.

Hi, Maedhros and Fingon from the superhero au make me feral, I love everything about them. if you feel like it I would love to see some more about Elros and Elrond from that au. Or alternatively, i was too shy to suggest anything the other week when you were doing the prompt list, but how about Elros and Elrond, the mafia au, library?
I’ll take “Elros and Elrond from the superhero au” for 500, Alex; thank you!
Elros’s Finwëan superpower is healing, because in THIS house we respect “the hands of the king are the hands of a healer” as an ancient truism of Arda and, accordingly, believe that Elros was the one with innate healing talent and Elrond only learned it later in life, likely in memory of Elros. Superhero au!Elros can heal others and himself by laying hands on them and willing it, though it does require energy from him and concentration. He gets much more efficient with both power and speed once he learns anatomy.
Elrond’s Finwëan power is the ability to radially radiate an aura of peace, in which harmful attacks are physically slowed and the will to violence, and all other negative emotions, are calmed. Ranged projectiles which enter the space also slow, though not necessarily enough to do no damage. He can push it farther out and/or more intensely the longer it goes, with limits. Elrond has to maintain his own sense of peace in order to do this, no anger, fear, desire to injure, etc. Elrond glows while he does this; the light marks the area and strength of effect.
Five generations down from Finwë, these powers are relatively weak compared to previous generations. However, their Maiaran blood means they both have a natural talent for Singing (ie, magic), which they can most easily use to augment their Light-based abilities.
These twins grew up in a post-apocalyptic hellscape timeline in which Morgoth conquered Earth and now most people are dead or, if unlucky, enslaved. The small group of free survivors which their parents led, constantly on the run, was luckier and more protected than most thanks largely to the Silmaril Elwing bore, but they were hunted fiercely by the small surviving band of the Sons of Fëanor (down to Maedhros, Maglor and Amrod) and their few remaining followers...while all were hunted by orcs, wolves, vampires, etc.
They found some sort of rip in reality, maybe caused by Morgoth's discordant war of conquest. Eärendil went through it to seek aid from the Valar. When the Fëanorians cornered them there, waiting for his return, Elwing tried to go through it with the Silmaril. Her sons tried to follow her, holding on to the back of her shirt, holding on to each other.
They got about 1.5 out of 3, and ended up by the side of a random freeway in modern America....
Maglor and Maedhros were driving (being driven) by on their way to a concert - Maglor to sing, Maedhros bullied into having a pleasant night off while supporting his beloved (annoying) brother and smiling for the cameras. Maglor saw 2 bedraggled 6yos trudging along by the side of this random freeway and told the limo driver to pull over...
In short order,
- the Fëanorians are like, 'holy shit, hitherto unknown baby cousins of some sort?!?' because these kids eyes definitely have Light in them
- Elros tries to stab Maglor, because Maglor reaches for them and these are literally the terrible monsters they were fleeing from 30 minutes ago, albeit much cleaner and less obviously scarred, and of course the 6yos from the post-apocalyptic hellscape have their own knives + basic combat training
- Elrond is too scared to stop anything with his power, see: previous comment about monsters.
Maglor's hand gets a little stabbed. Maedhros grabs Elros's arm and wrenches the knife away before he can try again. Elrond bites Maedhros's arm, like, really hard, the way you secretly always want to try biting someone just once, lots of blood.
- Maglor Sings the children to sleep with a hasty but strong lullaby (he was under stress, okay, and stabbed!). He and Maedhros look down at the uneasily-sleeping children.
- "They look a little Turgon-y," Maglor offers. "In the eyebrows?"
- "I don't even know if that's Light like ours," says Maedhros. He kneels down to frisk each boy for more weapons, then picks them up, one in each arm. "Remember Dior?"
- (Dior, son of Lúthien and Beren, had time-travelled back a comic books time!couple years ago from a terrible future in which Fingon was actually for real and ever killed this time so the House of Fëanor went to war with the magical isolated island of Doriath, in the name of retrieving the one Silmaril free of Morgoth, to the detriment of most of the rest of the world. That terrible timeline averted, Dior had stayed in the present and (re?)married his non-future wife, a millennia-old Iathrin forest ranger named Nimloth. They'd just recently had twin sons, though clearly not these ones - those were silver-haired rather than dark, and this one who'd just stabbed Maglor definitely had Fingolfin's nose.)
- (So the Fëanorians both knew that all-out war was to be avoided at almost all cost. But Doriath actually now had two Silmarils, or rather, the same Silmaril twice over, and Maedhros didn't need to say it aloud for Maglor to understand: ransom.)

I'd really like to know more about "Sightless, Wordless, Soundless" please!
So, do you know the Buffy the Vampire Slayer season 4 ep. called Hush? It's about dark fairytale-like monsters named the Gentlemen putting a spell on the entire town so everyone becomes mute. That's the inspiration for this fic.
Similarly going for a dark fairytale vibe here. Years of the Trees, Melkor is sowing dissent among the Noldor and pays extra special attention to Fëanor, and also his sons while he's there. Sauron, impatiently waiting for Melkor's return checks in on the situation in Valinor, sees all this, and gets jealous.
So Sauron places a curse on the Sons of Fëanor, making them lose the sense of sight, hearing or speech, depending on which would hinder them the most. Maedhros and Maglor are mute, Celegorm and the Ambarussar are deaf, and Curufin and Caranthir become blind. He tries to put a curse of losing all three senses combined onto Fëanor himself but it doesn't stick, the Silmarils protect him. Chaos and panic ensue, Sauron's out for blood and to get his man back and Melkor very much wants to get his hands on the Silmarils.
