‘Suspect’ Season 2: Dominic Cooper, Tamsin Greig, Eddie Marsan & More Join Channel 4-Britbox International Drama Series

Dominic Cooper, Tamsin Greig and Eddie Marsan are among the names joining Anne-Marie Duff on season 2 of Channel 4 and BritBox International drama series Suspect.
Filming on the drama’s second run is underway, with Vinette Robinson (Boiling Point, The Lazarus Project), Eddie Marsan (The Thief, His Wife and the Canoe, Ray Donovan), Celine Buckens (Showtrial, The Ex-Wife), Nicholas Pinnock (Top Boy, For Life) and Gina McKee (Bodyguard, Our Friends in the North) joining Cooper (Preacher, Mamma Mia!), Greig (Friday Night Dinner, Belgravia) and Marsan (The Thief, His Wife and the Canoe, Ray Donovan).
Duff (Bad Sisters, The Salisbury Poisonings) stars in the series as Dr Susannah Newman. In the eight-part series, she is on a desperate quest to track down a self-confessed serial killer before he kills again that night. When a mysterious new client Jon (Cooper) admits under hypnosis that he is a murderer and intends on killing another young female that evening, Susannah knows he must be stopped at all costs.
I’m so pleased to be returning to Suspect to be able to dig deeper into the character of Dr Susannah Newman,” said Duff. “Expect lots of twists, turns and revelations alongside more questions to be answered. I can’t wait for viewers to see what we’ve done with the second series.”
Suspects comes from Professor T and Before We Die producer Eagle Eye Drama and is written by Joy Wilkinson (Lockwood & Co, The Watch) and David Allison (The Couple Next Door, Marcella). It is for UK network Channel 4, whose outgoing Head of Acquisitions Nick Lee bought it, and co-produced by BritBox International for the U.S. and Canada. The eight-part drama is being distributed internationally by Fremantle and will air in 2024.

With Anne-Marie Duff returning as Dr Susannah Newman plus a truly spectacular ensemble cast that includes Dominic Cooper, Tamsin Greig and Eddie Marsan, Channel 4 viewers are truly in for a ride when this hits our screens.”
Reemah Sakaan, CEO BritBox International and executive producer added: “I am absolutely delighted that such a stellar ensemble cast is joining the incredible Anne-Marie Duff to tell the next chapter of Suspect Season 2. Joy Wilkinson and David Allison have delivered brilliant scripts and I know our BritBox International viewers in the US will be gripped from start to end.”
Carolina Giammetta (Before We Die, Hollington Drive) will direct. Eagle Eye’s Jo McGrath and Walter Iuzzolino are the executive producers and Dylan Rees (Heartstopper, Alice & Jack) is the series producer. Sakaan and Stephen Nye are the executive producers for Britbox International, which acquired the series following a deal brokered by Fremantle’s Lisa Honig, EVP Distribution North America.
Suspect is adapted from the Danish original Forhøret (Face to Face), which was created by Christoffer Boe and written by Christoffer Boe and Anna Juul. The original series was produced by Miso Film, a Fremantle company, and executive produced by Boe, Jonas Allen and Peter Bose who also serve as executive producers on Suspect.
The series has been produced in association with Happy Duck Films and the Belgian Tax Shelter. Fremantle handles global sales.
SH is not in “Suspect” 2 in association with Happy Duck Films🦆 his character seems to still be in a very deep stage of coma since Suspect 1 💁♀️
The interesting thing is there are various British actors who have played relevant character parts, a competent group to work with Happy Duck Films. The actors who pivot from films to TV or the other way around are large. As you can see there are plenty of choices.😉
Dominic Cooper is so talented, he's very witty. So a perfect package! his Ian Fleming role was his best.

DREAMING WALLS: INSIDE THE CHELSEA HOTEL (2022)

The Chelsea Hotel (now called The Hotel Chelsea) is on 23rd Street in Manhattan (in the funky neighborhood the place is named after). The place is a legend in the hospitality industry, once a grand meeting place for the rich and influential which turned into a slightly squalid, but still famous colony for artists. Countless famous writers and musicians and artists have stayed in these walls since the 1884 opening, including Mark Twain, Arthur C. Clarke, Allen Ginsberg, Arthur Miller and Gregory Corso. Dylan Thomas was staying there when he grew ill and died days later in a local hospital.
Dozens of songs have been written about the hotel, including Leonard Cohen’s “Chelsea Hotel #2,” Nico’s “Chelsea Girl,” Jon Bon Jovi’s ‘Midnight in Chelsea,” Phoebe Bridgers’ “Chelsea” and Joni Mitchell’s “Chelsea Morning” (there is some debate about whether the song is about the hotel, or an apartment Mitchell briefly had on nearby 16th Street in the same neighborhood.) Cohen, Janis Joplin and Bob Dylan stayed there for months at a time.
Punk rocker Sid Vicious of The Sex Pistols killed his girlfriend, Nancy Spungen, in one of the rooms. There were many other deaths in the hotel, including Japanese artist Hiroya who finished a mural in the hotel in 2007 and then promptly jumped down the hotel’s famous staircase. Eventually so many people died in the hotel that it got a reputation for being haunted.
It is a New York City landmark, but long ago had fallen into disrepair. In 2011, the hotel was essentially closed for a long-term renovation plan – which ended up lasting over a decade. The hotel finally quietly reopened in February 2022, a fact which happened too late to be included in this documentary.
However, while the wholesale renovations took place and the Chelsea was often just a shell of itself, a certain number of long-time residents stayed – many of whom had rent-controlled apartments and could not be evicted. (One of the interviewees here gave her rent as an insanely affordable $315 a month, for which you couldn’t even get a parking spot in Manhattan normally.) Some loved the place. Some had just been there forever and didn’t want to find someplace new to live. For some it was the history of the place. For others it was money. Whatever the reason, 10-20 hardcore tenants decided to ride out the renovations – often having to move to other units, just to save their homes.
The new owners of the hotel (and the ownership of the place changed three times during the 11 years of renovations) couldn’t be bothered to make things easier for the last tenants. In fact they’d prefer they leave so the rooms could be rented out at more expensive rates.
Dreaming Walls is not so much about the storied history of the building (although it does touch on it, periodically). It is more about these last holdouts, the tenants who lived amongst the dust and the rubble and the noise as the Chelsea was fitfully trying to be brought back to life – a life which many of these long-time tenants could not afford. One man pointed out that the hotel had built a back service elevator for the live-in tenants, because the owners didn’t want them to be seen by the tourists when the hotel reopened.
Not surprisingly with the history of the place, most of these survivors are arty types – musicians, sculptors, dancers, writers, painters. Most of them are well past their primes but still trying to create art on a regular basis. Many of them are eccentric, but most all have interesting life stories which revolve around the Chelsea.
Their love for the place is obvious and their willingness to deal with many hardships to keep their own little spot in the world is touching. Dreaming Walls tells their story and tells it well. However, I wish it told more of the story of the Chelsea itself. That is an even more fascinating narrative.

With all of the accusations that we remove people without proof, for no reason, or for selfish reasons, we’re here to set the record straight about why each person mentioned in the ask below was removed. We have never and will never remove anyone without proof, every person we remove from the group is for the safety of our members or for people not following our rules after being given multiple chances to do so.
TRIGGER WARNINGS FOR SOME SCREENSHOTS: Misgendering, transphobia, extremely ableist language
We received this screenshot of the Will Poulter we eventually removed, proving to us that they were a removed member (Maddie, as she is known to play Tom Hiddleston and also Dylan Minnette) that had snuck back in and someone that has a PSA against them for extremely problematic behavior in other groups. We even tried to give them the opportunity to explain themselves, but instead of doing so, they pretended to have lost access to their account and ignore us completely when approached. We even gave them another chance to explain it with the account they messaged us from with the lies about the lost account, and got nothing from them. Because of this, we posted their unfollow and then proceeded to block them to protect our group.
The Gerard Way/Calum Hood was approached for sending in an account under a different alias while already being in the group. When approached on the account they applied from, they immediately deactivated after saying it was their husband in the group and not them without allowing further discussion. And then when we approached the player on the account they were in our group with about it and telling them we would be removing them for the lying/sneaking and deactivating, they had their ship partner message us instead to defend them and to request unfollows for themselves.
Aida/Narcisa/Mireia/Rose/Gina/Juliet/Reia/Maria/Kiara are all known aliases of this person (there could be more, but who even knows at this point) who was here in City of Dreams and in The Glamorous List. They have also been in other groups, as well, with some of the listed names they went by. They have been known to play Lily James, Alicia Vikander, Zendaya, Natalie Portman, and Emma Stone, but there’s definitely a possibility they’ve played more. And they have reserved Olivia O’Brien and Niall Horan here once before after we removed them, but we didn’t allow them to join because we knew who they were right away.
We removed them immediately upon finding out the absolutely disgusting, horrible, and repulsive things that they were saying about one of our admins, and more importantly, a handful of our members, which you can find in the screenshot. Names/aliases of muns and celebrities these muns play have been blocked out for their privacy, as we want to keep them as safe as possible. We did not remove this person for no reason at all. We simply have zero tolerance for the kind of behavior that they were exhibiting and that was the end of it. They are banned permanently from our group because we do not want to subject our members to such hostility of people misgendering, being transphobic, and ableist on purpose. We have no room for that here in our group, whatsoever.

As for Marie/KT/Kayleigh/KJ, she had played Mason Mount and Taylor Hill when she was in Dreams. Her other go to muses are Louis Tomlinson, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Danielle Campbell, and Barbara Palvin. She had been banned from Weird due to her behavior towards other members in the group. Other members had come forward about KT’s horrible behavior ranging from verbal abuse/hateful messages to just downright stalking another member who had provided screenshots that are too personal for us to provide. She had even been known to be forceful with her ship partners as well that were provided with proof as well.
She was ultimately banned from Dreams for the safety of our members and to keep out her behavior that we do not stand by. Our members’ safety has always been our top priority and we could not let her attacking stalking members lightly. Nor would we ever with any other mun or player that comes into our group.
For the Megan Fox, she left our group by requesting we unfollow her. She claimed she had issues getting in her account and was being sent hate about not being active enough, around the same time other members in our group were sent the same anons about picking up activity. We are lead to believe it was possibly the Megan sending them to others, and to herself to make her look like a victim. She also came to our messages complaining about another member’s activity where it was not her place, and subsequently mentioned the conversation in her unfollow.
The Ben Hardy (Mia) was removed due to a history of forcing ships and inactivity, unfortunately we do not have screenshots of the conversations where we were informed of that. As it was done on character blogs and the accounts no longer exist. At one point, Mia herself had written a post owning up to her behavior, but the post has been deleted so we can’t link it.
All others, including the Zendaya/Sabrina that was mentioned, were removed due to repeated warnings about inactivity and continuing to sneak in under new aliases even after being removed. All were given chance after chance for their activity, and included new chances within the group once we changed from Glam to Dreams, and they repeated their same behaviors. @cityofdreamsrp

A Breath Of Fresh Air Podcast: A Gold Medal Show About The Oldies
Gordon Lightfoot, the Canadian singer-songwriter whose enduring folk hits included “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald” and “Sundown,”died last week. He was 84.
Lightfoot found success on the US pop charts in 1970 with the song “If You Could Read My Mind.” That track also earned the artist his second of four Grammy nominations, that one for best malepop vocal performance.
Lightfoot’s songs have been covered by numerous legendary artists, including Dylan, Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Neil Young, Barbra Streisand, and Eric Clapton, according to the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.
In July 2022, Lightfoot was interviewed by Australian broadcaster Sandy Kaye for her radio show and podcast A Breath Of Fresh Air.
Lightfoot, in that interview, talked about being in a state of repentance, giving up alcohol and other vices. Lightfoot talked about his two-and-a-half year recovery from an aortic aneurysm. He told Kaye that his big hit, “If You Could Read My Mind” was about the end of his first marriage.
When Lightfoot died, Kaye replayed that episode as a tribute to the singer-songwriter.
Those most Americans don't know her, Sandy Kaye is an extraordinary woman and broadcaster, journalist, and producer who has spent more than 35 years on both sides of radio and television microphones. She has worked with every TV network in Australia, and has hosted her own commercial radio talk-back show. She even held the distinction of being Sydney’s first female newsreader on radio.
Kaye began A Breath Of Fresh Air as a COVID project. It’s now a weekly, hour-long show that’s broadcast on radio stations right across the world, and it can be heard as a podcast on all major podcast platforms.
This is what Kaye says about her podcast: "A Breath of Fresh Air is my passion project. I wake up with it and go to sleep at night with it. I research, produce and present relentlessly and spend a great deal of time finding the artists you hear. It gives me a great deal of pleasure to share these stories with you. Together we learn about where their music took root, how they navigated the road to success, and what’s happened to them since. We get in behind the songs and hear them too. It’s fascinating stuff and, I think, makes for some easy, fun, and engrossing listening."
So what does Sandy Kaye do on A Breath Of Fresh Air? First, she interviews pop music stars from the 60s, 70s, and 80s. Yes, that's right. The 60s!
Kaye interviewed teen idol Bobby Sherman in March 2023 about his TV and music career. Late that month, she talked to Elliott Lurie of the group Looking Glass, who wrote and sang Brandy, a 1972 top ten hit. Lurie explains how the song originally was built around his high school girlfriend, Randy. A year after the song peaked on the charts, the girl's name Brandy skyrocketed in popularity. In an odd twist of fate, Barry Manilou had written and recorded a completely different song called Brandy, and the singer was reluctant to, but ultimately convinced, to change the name of the song to Mandy.
So if you're a fan of 60s, 70s, and 80s music and enjoying reminiscing with the artists who made those hits, A Breath Of Fresh Air will get you tapping, clapping, and humming. Kaye is generous in playing those old hits with excerpts running over a minute, sometimes two.
Kaye excels at corralling reluctant guests. After all, many of these people are in their 80s. An example is John Kay of Steppenwolf, who admitted in the beginning of the podcast interview how reluctant he was to do her show, To Kaye's credit, she warmed him up, and John Kay was a fascinating interview.
This year alone, Kaye has interviewed Gary Puckett, Supertramp's founding member John Helliwell, the Go-Gos drummer Gina Schock, singer Melissa Manchester, John Ford Coley, and Felix Cavalliere of The Rascals.
With so much experience in broadcasting, Kaye is as fluid as water as a host. She exudes an approachable warmth with a rich, sweet-sounding voice, and a strong desire to please her guests and her listeners.
Yet, don't misconstrue her for weakness. Kaye can ask the tough questions about controversies that arose when these musical artists were at the height of their popularity.
What makes these interviews -- and the show -- so captivating is listening to musicians who were famous during those decades, and hear their perspective now as people in their 60s, 70s, and 80s. If there are any common themes about these remembrances of fame, the artists all seem to characterize their sudden popularity as a whirlwind in which they were too busy to enjoy it. Others admit mistakes, and chuckle at the decisions they made in their youth.
If you're someone who was there and part of the music of the 60s, 70s, or 80s, you'll definitely revel in the memory lane free trip. But if you're a millennial or Gen Zer, there's also something for you in these recollections by iconic musical artists.
Check out A Breath Of Fresh Air. It can take you back to your youth, or, at least, offer younger listeners insights into why Baby Boomers are the way they are.

Aah, Andromeda! I still remember fondly lil 14-year old me sitting down on sunday afternoons to watch "back2back action pack" starting with Hercules (bland), Xena (iconique!), Cleopatra 2525 (highly entertaining but absolutely bonkers), Jack of All Trades (Bruce Campbell!) and lastly Andromeda, from which the ONLY thing I remember is Tyr (norse wargod-name, because I was a MASSIVE mythology-nerd) and that the ship's computer had a crush on Sorbo's character...
"Dylan Hunt is the least interesting part of this show." Ironically enough Kevin Sorbo's Hercules was always the most boring part of The Legendary Journeys and the show really suffered and dragged after killed off Iolaus. I literally remembered the ship computer having a crush on Sorbo's character before I even remembered his name (I still wouldn't have remembered it if you hadn't written it down.) I'd rather watch Cleopatra 2525. which was bonkers, but everyone seemes to have a good time!
I was on Tubi the other day, just going through old titles from back in the day - the B-list stuff that most people don't remember, when I came across Beastmaster, featuring Daniel Goddard running around in a loincloth with a big stick, talking to and saving animals. In one of those episodes, Keith Hamilton Cobb showed up, looking fine as hell, and I suddenly remembered that he was on that show with low-rent Hercules.
So I went looking for Andromeda, which was also on Tubi, and I've been enjoying this trip down memory lane, despite Sorbo's overwhelming (and unwanted) presence. I enjoyed all the characters except for him. I loved the crew of the Eureka Maru (forever said about Rev Bem), I loved Rommie, the Android version of the ship itself, and I especially loved Tyr.
Twelve-year-old me didn't understand why, but twenty years later... I get it.
People actually expected me to find Dylan attractive when I had this man right here every episode.
This man who wpre leather pants and chain mail and fishnet tank tops, his arms forever on display.l, looking like a whole ass meal and dessert.
The more I go through it, the more I think Captain Dylan Hunt should have been played by someone else... Gina Torres maybe. She has the presence and it would have been entertaining, and made more sense why Rommie would have been attracted to the captain. Hell, we wouldn't have even had to have changed the character's name.
Part of me also would have loved to have seen this show in its original context - as a spinoff of Star Trek. This whole show was based off of unused ideas by Gene Roddenberry, and so I can't help but see it.
The Commonwealth is obviously supposed to be a knockoff of thr Federation, so Dylan Hunt is Captain of a Star Fleet vessel and on a diplomatic mission, they're ambushed by the Nietzscheans (I like the idea of them being a new species introduced as opposed to a knockoff version of Vulcans, Romulans, or Klingons) and the Andromeda gets stuck in a black hole for 300 years. I would have loved to have seen how the galaxy would have been 300 years after the fall of the Federation, instead of this dream of restoring a Commonwealth that we have no attachment to.
I'm enjoying this trip down memory lane with all of these old scifi and sword & sorcery shows from the late 90s and early 2000s.

Malibu Rescue- Their little sister self-harms
Warning- self-harm
Eric- When you told Eric you had something to tell him with a serious look on your face he was immediately concerned. He sat down on the couch with you and waited patiently for you to open up to him.
"Eric lately I've been feeling really sad and lonely. And I just feel like such a failure, so I-" You were struggling to get the words out so you hold your arm out to him and he sees the marks on your arm.
"Y/n what...? Did you do this to yourself?" You squeeze your eyes shut and nod your head. You feel yourself being held in your older brother's arms. He always made you feel safe and protected and this time was no different.
"I'm sorry Eric you must be so disappointed in me."
"No sunshine, absolutely not. I am so proud of you for being brave enough to tell me about this. Asking for help takes a lot of courage and I am glad you came to me. Do you want to talk to someone? Like a professional?"
"I think I should so it doesn't end up getting worse.."
"Do you want me to call someone so?"
"Sure... will you go with me?"
"Of course sunshine. Your big bro is always here for you, you know that don't you?"
Gina- When you opened up to Gina and told her that you had been self-harming you weren't expecting your normally strong and stubborn older sister to start crying in front of you. You knew she had his own experiences with depression and you figured she was the one person you could open up to.
"Sorry for crying. You're my little sister and I care so much about you. I feel like I have failed as your older sister and can't keep you safe.." You hug her to help comfort her as well as yourself.
"It's not you Gina please don't blame yourself."
"Do you want to talk to someone? Like a professional?''
"I don't know if I am ready for that step yet. I just feel comfortable talking to you for now."
"Then that's what we'll do. Anytime you feel like harming yourself. I don't care if it's in the middle of something, you call me or one of my friends and they will get me, okay? I'm always going to be here for you and I don't want you to do something you're going to regret later... okay?"
Tyler- Tyler had seen the scars on your arm when you wore a t-shirt. He had knocked on your door and you told him to come into the room without thinking. His eyes immediately went to your arm as you had a few fresh cuts there.
"Y/n? Did you do that to yourself?" You see tears well up in his eyes instantly and you panic, running to the closet to grab a hoodie to throw on over your shirt. Tyler lightly places his hand on your shoulder and you feel tears forming behind your own eyes. When you turn around and see the look of concern in his you can't stop them from falling. Tyler doesn't say anything, just tugs you into his arms into a bone-crushing hug.
"Please y/n don't do this to yourself. If you ever feel like hurting yourself come to me, or your friends, or just anybody. You know there are so many people who are here for you and love you and don't want anything to happen to you."
"I'm sorry Tyler..."
"Shh don't apologize to me. I'm going to help you through this okay? It's my duty as your big brother to keep you safe. Even if it's from yourself."
Dylan- "Dylan what are you doing?" You see your older sister coming at you with a marker in her hand. She goes to grab at your arm and uncover your long sleeve and you immediately pull it into yourself.
"Y/n... I know okay? Just.. please let me see your arm." You shrink back but place your arm out.
"Turn your head away." You do as your sister tells you and turn your head to the side. You can feel him drawing on your arm and your curiosity gets the better of you. You turn your head to the side and are immediately scolded by her.
"No peeking until I am done!" You crack a smile and turn your head back. A few moments later and Dylan tells you it's okay to look. You look down and see your arm covered in hearts. Immediately you feel tears well up in your eyes and spill over your cheeks.
"Dyl?"
"So the next time you feel the urge to self-harm, you'll see all those hearts on your arm and know that you have an older sister who loves you and cares about you so much and doesn't want you to hurt yourself anymore.." You burst into tears and throw yourself into her arms.
"Thank you, Dylan"
"Of course. You know you can always open up to me and tell me what's going on. I will be here for you, you can always count on that."
Lizzie- Lizzie was shocked when you told her you had been self-harming. You had when you were younger but as far as she knew you had stopped for the past year.
"I'm sorry Lizzie I know I probably disappointed you so much. I was doing really well but, some people are school were bullying me and it just got to be too much.."
"Oh, y/n, I am not disappointed in you at all. I'm glad you told me. Now let me help you okay?"
"How are you going to do that?" You see Lizzie reach for a baseball bat and you tilt your head at her.
"Now give me the names and addresses of these people who are bullying my precious younger sister." You burst out laughing and scold her."Lizzie no! you can't go beating up random teenagers." She sighs and sets the bat back down.
"Thank you though Lizzie. It means a lot to me to know my big sister always has my back."
"Next time... before you do that will you talk to me, please? I know I am not around as much anymore but.. I'll always make time for you."
"I know. And I will next time. I promise..."
Brody- You were wrestling around with Brody. He had been picking on you all day and teasing you and you had enough. While you two were messing with each other your sleeve rolled up and he looked and saw the scars on your arm.
"Y/n? What are those?"
"Um... Nothing Brody just forget about it please?"
"I am absolutely not going to forget about it, what is going on? Are you hurting yourself?" You tug your sleeve back down and hug your knees to your chest.
"Yes... I only did it once though Brody I just got really sad and overwhelmed and... I don't know it just happened."
"You aren't doing it anymore though?" You shake your head.
"But you still get urges to, don't you?" You hug your knees tighter and nod your head. Instantly he wraps you in a tight hug. "Y/n please next time you feel like this tell me. You're my little sister and I love you and I never want anything bad to happen to you. Okay? Your big brother is always going to be here for you."

There is a long-forgotten 1997 film called Addicted to Love which is one of my all-time guilty pleasure favorites. In it, two people (Matthew Broderick and Meg Ryan) meet while stalking their exes – who left them to hook up together. Even though they realize they are very different, they have a mutual goal – to break the new couple up and get their exes back. Therefore, they use subterfuge, spying, misinformation and break several laws to try to tear those two apart.
Upon reading a description of I Want You Back, I was immediately reminded of Addicted to Love. Here also, two recent dumpees (Charlie Day and Jenny Slate) meet and team together to sabotage their exes’ current relationship (although this time out, the two exes are not dating each other). They use lots of questionable tactics to throw a monkey wrench in their exes’ happiness. In both, the woman is tougher and more jaded than the man, who is a bit more of a romantic. Both films are even named after an old pop song.
Sure, there are some differences. Addicted to Love takes place in a gritty area of New York, I Want You Back is in sun-dappled suburban Georgia. In fact, just in general, Addicted to Love is probably a darker film. Still, it is a marvelously relatable and fun story idea. I Want You Back is not quite as good as Addicted to Love, but it’s still a lot of fun.
While I say that I Want You Back is generally a lighter film, it does have some dark patches as well – for example, one of the heroes setting up a failed threesome to break up one of the couples, and another one mistakenly doing molly with some high schoolers.
However, no matter how cynical it sometimes becomes, I Want You Back does tend to have a good-hearted openness to the power of love and the power of survival.
We meet Peter (Day) and Emma (Slate) as they are concurrently getting dumped by their long-time significant others. Peter’s girlfriend high-school-teacher Anne (Gina Rodriguez) leaves him because he is too safe and settled – she wants a little spark in her life. Emma’s fitness trainer beau Noah (Scott Eastwood) has the exact opposite problem, he’s ready to settle down and Emma is still figuring things out.
They quickly learn through social media that both things were mere excuses – they both had met other people. However, instead of being angry that they were cheated on, that just makes the two more determined to win their former lover back.
They become friends through their mutual heartache, and soon stumble upon the idea of using the other to break things up and swoop in to pick up the pieces.
Despite the slightly edgy circumstance and some offbeat plot threads, I Want You Back is a pretty standard variety rom com, where true love may indeed win the day. And, honestly, if you don’t guess what the ending will be about a half hour in, you haven’t seen enough romantic comedies.
Even with its spiky edges, I Want You Back is a terrific valentine for the lovelorn.

Rina for 47
I could’ve written about 700 more words for this but I made myself stop. This is pure fluff and I’m really happy with it tbh and I hope you are too!–
#47 - “May I have this dance?”
–
Ricky wasn’t a fan of school dances. He tended to think they were overrated and caused unnecessary drama. (The last dance he went to was Homecoming where Gina poured a drink over EJ’s head for reasons Ricky still didn’t understand).
So standing in the hot gym in a suit was not his ideal way to spend an evening but here he was at prom. Mostly because Big Red and Nini had told him he had to go to his senior prom, despite not having a date. He and Nini had broken up shortly after getting back together, realizing that while they did love each other, it was more platonic than anything. That was over a year ago and they were back to being great friends and Nini was dating a transfer student named Dylan, who was a good guy in Ricky’s opinion.
So while Nini had Dylan and Big Red was still happily dating Ashlyn, Ricky was fifth-wheeling his own prom, sitting at their table with their discarded stuff while the couples danced.
He was so lost in his own world, staring at the table decoration in front of him, that he barely noticed when Gina flopped into the chair next to him.
“If you stare at that any harder, it might catch fire.” She quipped, nudging him with her arm.
Ricky started and shook himself out of his revere. Smiling at his new companion, he asked “Where’s your date?” Gina had been asked to prom by a guy on the varsity soccer team that she shared classes with who Ricky had never actually met.
“Got back together with his ex,” Gina shrugged, stealing Ricky’s punch.
Ricky winced: “Oof thats rough. I’m sorry.”
“Ehh its whatever. I wasn’t that into it anyway.” She leaned back in her chair and looked at him. “I’m glad it gave me an excuse to come over here and sit down.”
“Yeah?” Ricky hadn’t admitted it to anyone, but most of the reason he didn’t have a date was because the soccer player had asked Gina before he could and he hadn’t thought of anyone else he wanted to ask, even as friends. So while he wasn’t happy Gina’s date had fallen through, he wasn’t not happy that she was here now.
“Yeah, the soccer team is nice and all but not really my scene.” Gina smirked at him. “Plus, you looked pretty pathetic sitting over here all by yourself.”
“Yeah, I was hoping if I looked dejected enough, Nini would let me go home early.” Ricky admitted, glancing over to where Nini and Dylan were dancing.
“How’s that working out?” Gina followed his gaze.
“I’m still here, aren’t I?”
“Yes you are. And I am too. So, Ricky Bowen, may I have this dance?” Gina looked at him and held out her hand.
Ricky grinned and took it as they stood up. They made their way (still hand-in-hand) to the dance floor. Ricky put his hands on her waist and Gina clasped hers around his neck. His heart was pounding but he refused to run scared now.
“We don’t have good luck with dances, do we?” Ricky mused as they swayed to the music.
“Yeah, my date bailed and you don’t have one so…” Gina looked up at him and swallowed. “Let’s be each other’s back up plan. I won’t complain about being your second choice if you don’t”
Ricky choked out a laugh. “Gina Porter, you are no one’s second choice.”
“Whatever you say, Ricky.” She turned her head away from him.
“No, I’m serious.” Ricky assured her. He was terrified of what he was about to say but knew he had to do it anyway. If only so she knew she wasn’t a second choice, to anyone. “I was going to ask you, but the soccer guy beat me to it.”
“Really?” She was looking at him like she had that night so long ago when he gave her a ride home after the Homecoming disaster.
“Really.” Ricky confirmed. “And I didn’t really ask anyone else because…I mean, who else is there?”
“That is the second nicest thing you’ve ever said to me.” Her smile was soft and her eyes teasing. Ricky felt the tension leave his shoulders as he relaxed.
“What’s the first?” He asked.
“When you told me I wasn’t that scary.” She smiled again, “Do you remember that night?”
“Only everything.” He gave her a little spin and when he pulled her back in, he continued: “There’s only one thing I’d change though.”
She pulled back slightly. “And what’s that?”
“That cheek kiss.” Ricky shook his head a little. “I want a do-over.”
Gina gave him a look that Ricky knew to mean “challenge accepted”, so he leaned in and their lips met.
Maybe prom wasn’t so bad after all.
