Three songs for Far Cry The Silver Chronicles, A Radioactive Calamity of Love, Bombs & Gore and Life, Despair & Monsters. Also the last song is a song from Season 1 of Hazbin Hotel, which I'm aware isn't fully out yet, so maybe SPOILERS! Avoid the last song if you care enough. Music below:
Nadi Sinclair, a sharpshooter amongst Task Force 141, is forced to go on the run with Soap and Price in the Call To Arms duology after killing Shepard and try their darnedest to put an end to Makarov once and for all (therefore running with the metaphorical wolves after the ultranationalist leader). Though alternatively, this could be after Call To Arms, where she joins up with the Project at Eden's Gate under Alexander Khaos and Jacob Seed's tutelage, where, she literally and figuratively runs with the wolves, away from society's expectations, technology and whatnot. Song below:
youtube
"Trick or treat, what would it be? I walk alone, I'm everything My ears can hear and my mouth can speak My spirit talks, I know my soul believes
But we're running out of time (Time, oh) All the echoes in my mind cry There's blood on your lies The sky's open wide There is nowhere for you to hide The hunter's moon is shining
I'm running with the wolves tonight I'm running with the wolves I'm running with the wolves tonight I'm running with the wolves I'm running with the wolves tonight I'm running with the wolves I'm running with the wolves tonight I'm running with the wolves
A gift, a curse, they track and hurt Say can your dream, in nightmares seems A million voices silent screams Where hope is left so incomplete."
"cardigan" is a specific song that makes me think of Ortega "Ore" Brantley's final moments in The House Always On Top, as he stands in a dam that has an active nuclear warhead nearby, injured beyond belief, with one of his father's most dangerous spellcasters, Aggravor, keeping him in one place with nothing more than one hand touching his back, a fatal touch that would soon kill him whenever Aggravor chooses. And Ore reflects with what little time he has left on his loved ones, his companions, friends, family, mother, sister, the innocents killed by Urias under his watch, even the recent loss of Ryder, the Courier's presence being the cause of why he came to Hoover Dam in the first place if only because he saw a slim chance she survived and had to jump to it before it was too late. He thinks over his regret of not killing his father sooner, of being too late to save others, but also his accomplishments, over the fact his sister, and both of their students, had survived, and Ress had evolved far from the arrogant and immaturely entitled girl she started off as. And with that, when Ress finally enters the room, he makes sure to look upon her with pride, and knowing she won't be needing him anymore, verbally passes the torch to her. He has full confidence that she will end their father's blight even when Aggravor ends his life. This song can also be towards Ress as she loses her big brother, the one constant support in her life, the one person never willing to give up on her no matter how much of an ass she made of herself, the one person she thought she would walk the Earth with forever and ever due to their ageless immortality, so she would never be alone. Her big brother who took the roles of teacher, friend and father all in one, always there to guide and support her want for freedom (unlike Urias, who would have used her as a pawn), always there to say "I'll take it from here" whenever she messed up, whenever she needed help fighting. Which must be why Ore's last words, though reassuring, had hurt so much as well. Song below:
youtube
"To kiss in cars and downtown bars Was all we needed You drew stars around my scars But now I'm bleeding Cause I knew you stepping on the last train Marked me like a bloodstain, I, I knew you Tried to change the ending, Peter losing Wendy I, I knew you Leaving like a father, running like water When you are young they assume you know nothing But I knew you'd linger, like a tattoo kiss I knew you'd haunt all of my what-ifs The smell of smoke would hang around this long Cause I knew everything when I was young I knew I'd curse you for the longest time Chasing shadows in the grocery line I knew you'd miss me once the thrill expired And you'd be standing in my front porch light And I knew you'd come back to me You'd come back to me. And you'd come back to me. And you'd come back."
In The Thorned Crown of Iron Thrones, much like canon, Aegon II Targaryen isn't a good brother, nor is he a first son to be proud of (as evident by his father's absolute indifference with him and his mother's disappointment), even less a candidate to be a king of all things (sometimes he was thankful it was his half-sister who would sit the Iron Throne, though he knew that meant him and his younger siblings would be put to the sword, which was the only downside). He knew this to be true, everyone knew, even his own grandsire recognized more potential in Aemond even after his younger brother lost his eye. After the funeral of their older cousin Laena, after Aemond lost an eye to their half-sister's children for claiming a dragon which their deceased cousin had ridden on, after the arguments and screaming between everyone on both sides, for justice, for blood, for punishment, for some shred of care from the man who conceived them. And especially after hearing Corvus, the only older sibling that treated Aegon, his brothers, his sister, and his mother with more decency and kindness than their apathetic father and scornful half-sister (despite Corvus conviction to continue helping his adopted sister keep her claim), break down when father revealed the most damning and life-shattering secret about his "adopted" son (thanks Dad), Aegon couldn't handle it. Couldn't handle the shame, disappointment and hopelessness of the situation, so that night, he ran off. He ended up running off into Driftmark's woods, hoping that, maybe if he disappeared, everything would get better, that his half-sister that his father doted on more than Aegon and his siblings, or his younger brother who would do mother and his grandsire proud, or even their recently discovered half-brother, as merciful and decisive as he is (though Aegon highly doubted either father nor grandsire would allow it to happen), would sit the dreadful throne, be the ruler people wanted. Hell, he would even have Cecil to sit the throne, if it meant the self-proclaimed Royce woman would send her father, his terrifying uncle, to the Wall and marry off his siblings to noble houses willing to care for them. Not him. He wished to be forgotten, to curl up and shrink and shrink until he couldn't be seen anymore. He had not intended of coming across an ex-assassin woman who called herself Okkotsu, who had tried to murder his father back in the day and had a special connection with the recently deceased Laena. Nor had he foreseen them connecting with their troubles, through such unorthodox means. Okkotsu may not know what Aegon is exactly going through, but she knows enough to help lift his spirits up... through the power of accepting yourself as a sopping wet sad little meow-meow blorbo? Song below:

[I'm not going to include all the lyrics, just the ones I find matter to these two downtrodden losers. Also LOTS-OH cursing here]
"So things look bad, and you're backs against the wall Your whole existence seems fuckin' hopeless You're feeling filthy as a dive bar bathroom stall Can't face the world sober and dopeless You've lost your way, you think your life is wrecked Well, let me just say you're correct!"
"Wait what?"
"You're a loser, baby A loser, goddamn baby You're a fucked-up little whiny bitch."
"Hey!"
"You're a loser just like me."
...
"This supposed to make me feel better?"
"There was a time I thought that no one could relate To the gruesome ways in which I'm damaged But lettin' walls down, it can sometimes set you straight! We're all living in the same shit sandwich."
...
"I'm a loser, honey A schmoozer and a dummy But at least I know I'm not alone."
"You're a loser."
"Just like me."
...
"I'm trapped and it gets worse with every hour."
"You're a loser, baby."
"A loser, but just maybe if we-"
"Eat shit together, things will end up differently."
"It's time to lose your self-loathin' Excuse yourself, let hope in, baby Play your card, be who you are."
"A loser, just like me."

It's all about blood. The blood spilled between the Republic of Mareen and the armies of the Blood Emperor long ago. The blood gifts of Mareen's deadliest enemies. The blood that runs through the elite War Houses of Mareen, the rulers of the Tribunal dedicated to keeping the republic alive. The blood of the former Legatus, Verne Amari, murdered. For his granddaughter, Ikenna, the only thing steady in her life was the man who had saved Mareen. The man who had trained her in secret, not just in martial skills, but in harnessing the blood gift that coursed through her. Who trained her to keep that a secret. But now there are too many secrets, and with her grandfather assassinated, Ikenna knows two things: that only someone on the Tribunal could have ordered his death, and that only a Praetorian Guard could have carried out that order. Bent on revenge as much as discovering the truth, Ikenna pledges herself to the Praetorian Trials--a brutal initiation that only a quarter of the aspirants survive. She subjects herself to the racism directed against her half-Khanaian heritage and the misogyny of a society that cherishes progeny over prodigy, all while hiding a power that--if found out--would subject her to execution...or worse. Ikenna is willing to risk it all because she needs to find out who murdered her grandfather...and then she needs to kill them. Mareen has been at peace for a long time... Ikenna joining the Praetorians is about to change all that.

an introduction to Sleepy's wips (this time it's for real)
welcome.
I'd like to sort these by active vs inactive wips, projected novels vs short stories, most recently updated vs neglected, but that's not very helpful, as my wips regularly rotate like they're on a merry-go-round, and I could work on twelve wips in a month or one. or none. the best I can do is list wips I have, indeed, written something for/about them, and then the ideas that have nothing after that.
Category: WIPs
(this category contains content, from a few paragraphs to several thousand words. yeah. I've got range)
Youth: The Ephemeral Infinite (#wip: youth story)
a young adult novel about ten teenagers who have feelings and sometimes talk about them. set in Paris, 2018, over the course of one school year. all ten POVs, and the story is non-linear. it's a combination of the real and surreal, as time feels foggy and all the kids have superpowers. they're not important.
status: draft 0 complete
Dirt in the Doing (#wip: city story)
a new adult novel about attempting to deal with emotional trauma via physical, often violent means. Jet, our POV, will punch anyone who tries to hurt the people he's reluctant to admit he cares about. this particular story has all of my favorite tropes because I'm writing it so I can read it. it's realistic fiction but I call it ci-fi (city fiction).
status: writing draft 0
Spirits and Summoners (#wip: summon story)
a new adult fantasy novel about summoners dealing with spirits, bounties, secrets, and some guy who is spirit-possessing dead dragons. Zan, our POV, is not the main character, and he knows it. this wip is heavily inspired by video games and contains some tributes to their unique ways of storytelling.
status: not trying very hard to either write draft 0 or worldbuild
House of Favors/Swords/Blood (#wip: guild story)
a new adult fantasy novel? about the three guild houses and their apprentices. there isn't really a plot yet. I have two POVs with more planned, and an immortal sorceress with no name.
status: I have started writing draft 0
Mercenary Story (#wip: mercenary story)
an adult? fantasy novel about mercenaries, a princess, shenanigans and questing. and trauma. can't forget the trauma. multiple POVs with a lot to figure out.
status: I have started writing draft 0
Every Other Star is Silent (#wip: anxiety story)
a new adult contemporary novel about Aidan, and his anxieties. set in college, with a tremendous amount of discussion on mental illness. singular POV, with a slightly unreliable narrator.
status: draft 2/draft 1 rewrite (but I haven't worked on it in two years)
Spider Silk (#wip: magick story)
a novella about a small town whose history is being rewritten by someone trying to hoard all the magick, and the few people somewhat unaffected by this who are trying to stop him.
status: I occasionally worldbuild and make cameos for my friends
The Search for Petrichor (#wip: rain story)
a new adult duology about magic, family, control, trust, and powers that everyone forgot about. seven POVs with a vaguely fairytale/folktale retelling vibe. in the same world as Guild Story.
status: unknown (truly, I do not know)
The Score (#wip: death story)
a short story about Lawrence Whitely and his experience in the sideways death world of The Score, and all the lives he sees and remembers in it.
status: in limbo, which is very meta
Princess Rowena (#wip: princess story)
a middle-grade series about Rowena and her friends getting up to magical shenanigans.
status: hanging out in the archive
It's a Big Universe (#wip: space story)
a novelette? about a cosmic being travels around the universe in their little spaceship, all alone, until they're gifted some friends by an oracle. they don't understand the concept at first.
status: I've written some of it! and then I abandoned it
A City Asleep (#wip: apocalypse story)
a short story? about two boys roaming a city after the world falls apart. there is not plot but there are VIBES.
status: two whole scenes! and some thoughts
Trans-dimensional Ghosts (#wip: ghost story)
a ? about a junior warlock who is forced (by oath as a warlock) to help out a young man and the ghost attached to him before the ghost can consume all his energy. trouble is, the ghost appears to be from a different dimension. there's also a werecat, which is fun.
status: there are words for this thing but it's been dead for years
Home is Where the Heart Is (#wip: hunter story)
a short story about the annual quest to find and kill the Winterbeast in order to free the spirit of Spring that's been trapped inside its heart all winter long.
status: the winterbeast is very much alive
The Summer Gallery (#wip: summer story)
a short story about a gallery Jake works at for the summer that may or may not actually exist.
status: it has a great opening line, which is something
The Train Between Us (#wip: train story)
a novella about two strangers meet on the train to work and discuss their careers, emotions, and personal struggles while unaware that they're in a pocket dimension for the duration of the ride each day. They gradually help and comfort each other until the pocket dimension expires.
status: writing chaotically
Category: short fiction/misc.
(this category contains content, just brief)
Gang Up On Crime (#w: sleepy stash)
originally the fanfic of a fanfic, this is now just about gang wars but like, for children. there's violence but it's for babies. I don't know what to tell you.
status: I have more thoughts in my head than in my docs
The Girl From the Dimension Next Door (#wip: dimension story)
about Aaron and Sarah, who live two universes apart and regularly bend and break through spacetime to share their childhoods and their troubles.
status: I started writing it as a tumblr serial
The Phantom Thieves (#wip: thief story)
about a group of thieves trying to steal a bridge. there are pocket portals and banter.
status: I started writing it as a tumblr serial
Glow (#w: sleepy stash)
a very short story about the love between mother and daughter (I wrote it for my mom).
status: finished/unfinished
Previous Lives and Premonitions (#wip: college story)
a short thing about what the title says. it doesn't really make any sense because the context isn't in the story.
status: unfinished/finished
Beasts of the Garden (#wip: castle story)
a (so far) only dialogue story about a rosebush thief who has to work in an enchanted haunted castle for three months and survive. part of a larger universe of fairytale retellings. this collective currently has no name.
status: spontaneously updating
The Emporium Chronicles (#wip: worker story)
retail! but make it fantasy.
status: technically this doesn't have content but I do intend to write it so it didn't really belong in the ideas category
Tumblr Shorts:
Hell in a Handbasket
The Chosen One
The Grave Diggers (from the future!)
A Universe of You
You Were a Windshield
Guilt and Guns (in Space!)
Heavy is the Head, or Something
Kismet
A Name for the Road
The Girl From the Dimension Next Door (flash fic version)
Category: Ideas without wips currently
A Soul in Parts - sci-fi story about near death experiences causing your consciousness to split. there is cloning. (I will never write this.)
Forged Fates - fairytale story about being named after whatever the stars or sages or something have declared your fate to be. the protagonist is Jack of All Trades and he's not having fun.
Making of a Miracle - Chaos and Inevitability are entities that are tired of the universe dying so fast when they go up against each other so they decide to create a creature who can balance them out. it's like two supervillains doing arts and crafts and the poor plucky creations having to deal with them.
Library of the Mind - psychological dark academia about exploring too deeply into mind magic. guarding yourself against being manipulated in good, but you can end up tearing yourself apart instead of building yourself up stronger.
The Recollection - a series of shorts about the Recollection, an archive for memories people don't want anymore. memory erasure angers the sage of memory, so instead of wiping the slate clean, unwanted memories are stored in a vault and taken care of by the archivists, childlike beings who encounter the best and worst of humanity while never remembering anything they archive past a day.
The Hat Trick Man - I will not elaborate, because I can't.
Death by Midnight - fairytale where the times of day have personifications and they're a bunch of siblings and midnight (for reasons) is killing the siblings - not permanently, but it does confuse humans when afternoon suddenly disappears from the day for a week - and the other times of day have to team up to stop midnight.
Killing Time - similarly, time's personification has been split into several pieces and the unlucky protagonists have to time loop travel to kill the fast times and hope they're never taking out the piece that holds their reality.
The War of the Words - about godling writers who control the fate of the world and they can't stop writing or the world dies, but also they can't agree on how the story goes, so it doesn't make sense
The Planet Farm Beyond Oblivion - prequel to Space Story about Oblivion, where planets are homegrown from fallen stars and shipped off to spots in the universe but disaster strikes in the form of one of the Growers planting seeds with toxic elements.
Only the Night Knows - fairytale about how only the Night remembers how to wake the sun, and the newest prince and his best friends travel through Night's tower to reach the end of night and the birth of a new day.
Uncommon Ailments - a shop that encounters every ailment from secondhand depression to displaced souls.
A Quiet Cold - a small town slowly freezes while people don't really notice until it's too late.
Blood of Gold, Blood of Silver, Blood of Bronze - blood types are categorized by the kind of magic one wields. it's a well-known fact that anyone can have strong and unique magic, and that the system for tracking it is highly biased and false, but most of the people with gold blood are rich, so society skews in their favor anyway. a new blood type comes on the scene, and others follow after that: iron, copper, steel, etc.. with every new set of powers, the hold the gold bloods have on society weakens. and then one blood type goes rogue, and the world might have to crumble before a new one can be built.
The Cure for Depression and Other Mythical Creatures - mini comics about mental health
August Blue - Conrad and Elsie in the summer by the lake, a place no one else knows or can find. Little does Conrad know that he drowned while looking for Elsie, but as he discovers it, there might be a way to come back. But can Elsie come back, too?
Unearthly Appetites - a guy gets cursed to become a demon and spends the rest of his humanity trying to appreciate it better while encounting strange beings
The Cure for Insomnia - a guy gets turned immortal (or does he) and gets depressed about not needing things like sleep and food as much and has to be rescued from depression by some found friends
The Pennyman - a boy tries to collect 1000 pennies in order for the pennyman to grant him a wish
Making a Difference - kids of an elementary school work at gathering the ingredients for a "difference" in order to put on a school play
Blood Orange - something about magical assassins in the summer trying to achieve the same goal and also kill each other a little bit
Twelve Shadows - a vague Peter Pan retelling where Peter is haunted by and is currently haunting his lost boys while unsure of how to get himself out of a sticky bargain he made without anyone dying, especially him
The Silence Machine - a deaf guy creates a machine to generate silence in order to undo the hypnosis placed on his town caused by constant music
Category: lore OR plot but not both!
The Decaying of Shelara Da'Esti - a summon story prequel about our favorite twice possessed skeleton
Death-defying Acts and Other Mundane Arts - a necromancer accidentally sends her fetch-quester straight into a conspiracy and now they're unraveling a mystery about a cult, reluctantly befriend a wizard, and argue a lot.
stuff about dryads - weird lore about dryads, originally for the Teen Wolf universe, now just chilling in my brain (lore)
romance story - a retelling/crossover of Les Mis and Sense and Sensibility (plot)
Snow Fangs and the Poisoned Cinderella - shapeshifters + curses, merging a few fairytales and also there's no romance (plot)
Moss-rose and the Sleeping Swan - retelling mashup of snow white and rose red and sleeping beauty (plot)
Marriage of convenience - Hadley Jamison is going to have to marry his childhood friend and nemesis, Amelia Kinsey. There's an inheritance, a dowry, a debt, and a lot of family history riding on it (plot)
Pirate Story - a young women gets lowkey adopted by some pirates and there's angst (lore)
Wuxia Story - a woman from a family of assassins marries a young lord who is trying to dismantle said family to prevent from from succeeding in killing the entire royal family. There are three sides at play and the newly married couple don't trust each other whatsoever (lore)
Category: Fanfic
here is a link to the existing masterpost about fanfics because I am not going to retype or migrate all of that, thank you.
I am so tired.

Professor Grindelwald!AU headcanons (part 4)
(part 1, part 2, part 3)
- Gellert introducing his BFF Vinda Rosier to Dumbledore and McGonagall. GG and VR talk about each other like this;
- Since McGonagall is super passionate about Quidditch, sometimes she takes Dumbledore and Grindelwald with her, to watch the game.
While Albus is politely supportive, Gellert is rather disconcerted by her enthusiasm (those two always end up rooting for opposite teams, of course);
- Albus introduces Aurelius/Credence to Gellert at some point, and the two become basically his uncles. AD is the cool and goofy uncle, Gellert is the cool and sassy uncle;
- Albus and Gellert take Aurelius/Credence to get his first wand, and first pet (a crow, or a cat);
- Grindelwald's patronus would be either a phoenix (for Albus) or a dragon, judging by its description and the phoenix-dragon duology;
- Gellert would be very fond of dragons, and during the Triwizard Tournament, Hagrid shows him the animals as well (Albus' idea). GG and Harry- both hidden under the Invisibility cloak- would both gag in utter disgust as Hagrid and Olympe flirt, tho;
- Gellert proudly struts around with the Slytherin House colors during the Triwizard Tournament, glaring defiantly at Durmstrang. Hogwarts is his home, after all;
- Everytime Dumbledore quite literally gifts points to Griffyindor House, Gellert and Snape be like "Is this man for real? 😐🙄" at the table;
- When Umbridge (in The Order of the Phoenix) tries to send away Professor Trelawney- who, in this AU, was mentored by Grindelwald in Divination- Gellert steps immediately in her defense, alongside Albus and Minerva;
- The level of sass and pettiness Gellert regards Umbridge with, reaches astronomical levels;
- Grindelwald has a hand in Fred and George's firework-accident towards Umbridge (I mean, the fireworks were kinda dragon-shaped), and he helps with the pranks in general, and the whole Room of Requirement thing;
- When Dumbledore dies in "The Half-Blood Prince", Grindelwald is the first one to approach Harry next to the body, sharing his shock and grief;
- When Albus dies, Fawkes doesn't leave, but stays behind and becomes Credence/Aurelius';
- In "Harry Potter: The Deathly Hollows", when Harry reveals that Snape is the one who murdered Dumbledore, Minerva and Grindelwald fight Severus off, together.
While, like in the film, McGonagall looks slightly hurt and hesitant about harming a former friend, Gellert goes all-out, absolutely mad upon finding out Snape's killed his lover;
- Despite never really getting along with one another, Aberforth and Grindelwald fight valiantly side by side (with Aurelius/Credence, and Fawkes, of course) to protect the school, during the Battle of Hogwarts, honoring Albus' memory;
- Gellert is slain in the Battle of Hogwarts;
- GG would know beforehand- thanks to a vision- that it'd be his last battle, and he accepts his destiny peacefully, happy to finally be able to reunite with Dumbledore again, in the afterlife;
- Gellert's body is found by Minerva, with Aberforth and Aurelius/Credence crouched silently beside it.
The three would grieve deeply for Grindelwald: Minerva, for a fallen old friend, Aberforth for the man he'd never really liked, but that had loved his brother Albus to his last breath, and made him happy, and Aurelius/Credence for his adopted uncle;
- People would know Grindelwald'd died, as McGonagall wordlessly carries his purple-red scarf, and Aberforth his body;
- By Minerva/Credence's request, Gellert is buried beside Albus, when he may finally rest;
- After Dumbledore says his final farewell to Harry in limbo, and moves on towards the afterlife, he finds Gellert waiting for him, on the train he boards. :)

September TBR--
Tumblr media
I have a pretty ambitious TBR given that my husband and I will be on vacation for almost half of the month. And working when we’re not on vacation. But I want to get into the Fall spirit and I’m hoping to do that with a few new releases, a backlist or two, and a couple rereads.
1. Built to Last by Erin Hahn (NetGalley)-- Former child star Shelby and her former co-star are thrown together for a home remodeling show and old feelings rush to the surface. “Sparks and sawdust fly as Shelby and Cameron film the pilot for ‘Homemade’.”
2. The Final Gambit by Jennifer Lynn Barnes (New Release)-- This is the final book in The Inheritance Games trilogy. It’s no secret around these parts that I love Jennifer Lynn Barnes’ books so, of course, this one has been preordered for months. In book one, a regular girl’s life is turned upside-down when she discovers that a Texas billionaire has left her his fortune--disinheriting his own flesh and blood in order to do so. Avery and the Hawthorne grandchildren solve puzzle after puzzle to get to the heart of the mystery.
3. All of Our Demise by Amanda Foody and Christine Lynn Herman (New Release)-- Another finale. This one is the second book in the All of Us Villains duology. The first book was a combination of the Hunger Games, a Fantasy magic system, and Thriller. I don’t know that there’s a great way to talk about this one without giving up the plot for the first book. But this one continues where book 1 left off and our players all have choices to make, each with their own consequences.
4. Goblet of Fire.
5. Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson-- This one is a reread for me. I think I’ll be reading it for the...fourth time? That cannot be right. This book is set at a private boarding school for gifted children and follows Stevie Bell as she attempts to solve an old mystery while mysterious things begin to happen at the school
6. The Secret History by Donna Tartt-- After I read ‘If We Were Villains’ last fall, I’ve gotten a handful of comments telling me to read this one for the dark academia vibes. I’m here for it. According to GoodReads, we follow a group of clever misfits at an elite New England college who--under the influence of their charismatic classics professor--discover new ways of thinking and living. This sounds exactly up my alley and perfect for the Fall.
7.  The Woman in the Library by Sulari Gentill (Kindle)--Another newish release (June). This one is set in a library where the tranquility is ruined by a violent scream. Everyone is told by security to stay where they are until the threat has been assessed. While they wait for the all-clear, four strangers at the same table pass the time by having conversations and getting to know each other better. It just happens that one of them is a murderer.

hi friends! happy spring and happy april! i hope you are doing well and being gentle with yourselves! i feel like i am a little all over the place with wrapping up march, getting my first quarterly post of 2024 ready, prepping for some kpop comebacks, and just getting back from a wonderful vacation! but first things first – i need to talk about the eight books i read in march! (spoiler alert – i feel like i was handing out four star ratings left, right, and center this month haha!) down below will be mini reviews, some with links to full reviews, with content and trigger warnings! ✨ ✨ Bride by Ali Hazelwood ⭐⭐⭐⭐ ARC provided by the publisher via Netgalley “I would take anything she chose to give me—the tiniest fraction or her entire world. I would take her for a single night knowing that I’ll lose her by morning, and I would hold on to her and never let go. I would take her healthy, or sick, or tired, or angry, or strong, and it would be my fucking privilege. I would take her problems, her gifts, her moods, her passions, her jokes, her body—I would take every last thing, if she chose to give it to me.” i feel like all my friends who also loved this one, were all by my side here on goodreads, back in the early 2010s, reading all the paranormal romances known to man (or that our moms kept on their bookshelves). the nostalgia for books like riley jenson, black dagger brotherhood, kate daniels were so very felt. yet, this book completely stands on its own and is a really good book that i highly recommend. content warnings from the author (please use caution for potential spoilers): death of several people within the context of a war between different species (vampires, werewolves, and humans) is mentioned, several mentions of blood, kidnapping, mild violence, poisoning and attempted murder, attempted kidnapping/harming of a child (she is unharmed), death of a parent (off page in the past and off page in the present), explicit and graphic sexual content, knotting (the mmc’s apparatus is not quite human?), cursing and vulgar language other trigger + content warnings i found while reading (ali’s books really do have such good tws – i am always so thankful and impressed): missing friend, mention of sickness of child (she is fine), spider mentions, brief mention of death during childbirth, brief mention of loss of a partner in past, mention of vomit, parental abuse and neglect, and violence ❤️ full breakdown review HERE ✨ The Prisoner’s Throne (The Stolen Heir Duology, #2) by Holly Black ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 1.) The Stolen Heir ★★★★ “I need no protestations of your feelings. Love can be lost, and I am done with losing.” let me just start this mini review with a big preface: you all know holly black is one of my favorite authors of all time, and her world of faerie is one of my favorite settings of all time, so just reading a new world by her, and being in this world again, was truly a joy to me and will be one of my favorite reading experiences of the year. in the first book in this spin off duology starring oak, we get to go on a quest line adventure alongside him and Suren, while they both are contemplating the person they want to be versus the person their birthright is trying to lead them to be. i really enjoyed it and could not wait for this second book, especially because we all know holly black loves a good cliffhanger ending. yet this second and final installment, despite picking up right where book one left off, felt so unlike the first book in this duology. i feel like a lot of people picked up the stolen heir wanting more of jude and cardan’s story, and were a little upset when they were given something completely different. and i almost feel like that sentiment was very heard, therefore this book feels way more like a continuation of jude and cardan’s story with oak struggling to be the main character alongside the plot that ultimately felt like a new set up for what is to come. and i don’t really know if this is a complaint or praise, b...

Hey everyone! I hope everything is looking up for you and that life is going your way. I don’t have too much to say before this review. I am, however, very excited to share this book. For those of you not in the loop, Harpers Collins (who published this book) was at odds with their union. Thankfully, they were able to re-negotiate and now I can talk about this book. Buckle up and let’s talk about…

Six Of Crows Review
Six of Crows(Book 1 of the Six of Crows Duology)
Written by Leigh Bardugo
This review contains spoilers
Genres: Crime, Heist, Fantasy, and a bit of Comedy.
Tumblr media
I give this book 4 stars out of 5.
Ok, this book was a roller coaster.
But before anything, a round of applause for the author.
I am just shocked at how well the plot was written. It pulled me in, the tension, the remorse, the shock, and the twists! Oh, lord, the twists were amazing! The amounts of twists this book holds are just insane, and I never saw through any of them.
Soon after that, the main characters will get introduced. Though it is a slow process, it helps you understand them well.
Meet the protagonists:
A convict with a thirst for revenge. Matthias
A sharpshooter who can't walk away from a wager. Jesper
A runaway with a privileged past. Wylan
A spy known as the Wraith. Inej
A Heartrender using her magic to survive the slums. Nina
A thief with a gift for unlikely escapes. Kaz
(Out of all, my two favorite people are Wylan and Jesper)
The book is written in multiple characters' POV's(Point Of Views) so you understand how they feel through the entire book.
A team of 6 are out to break into the Ice Court to save a man who made a dangerous drug which makes Grisha's ability drastically increase at new heights and allows them to perform their ability in ways they never could have done before.
An example is that a Heartrender, who without the drug, can manipulate one's lungs, heart, slow healing, and emotions.
But when they have taken the Jurda Parem, it gives them the ability of mind control, fast healing, ability to see at further distances, and can sense heightened to the point they can hear the heart beating and blood flowing in others bodies.
The bad thing about this was that the drug was addictive, and made all the Grisha who took it begging for more.
The tension rises slowly, but then out of nowhere BAM, the plans messed up, Kaz's prison uniforms covered in blood and nobody knows why, and the Yellow Protocol alarm has been off increasing security across the entire Ice Court to make them read everyone's papers once again.
The tension there was real, like aaah what'll they do next?
But fortunately, Kaz and the rest of the group were able to formulate a quick plan, but a very risky one.
And the thing about different points of view, there was tension EVERYWHERE. Inej being taken to a room where suspicious people were held, Nina following a Druskelle leader who showed how Parem was tested on Grisha's in a laboratory (and Nina's a Grisha, she had to see her kind suffer), Jesper and Wylan trying to stop the Black Protocol alarm, and Matthias and Kaz sneaking into the Ice Court as guards.
It was like we knew there was tension, but we actually felt it when the Yellow Protocol alarm went off.
For me, the first strong feeling of tension was when Kaz flinched. Flinched. The Kaz Brekker who feared nothing, flinched. It was when Kaz's past was finally understood.
Ok, so they get the son of Bo yul-Bayur, since Bo yul-Bayur the creator of Parem died, and left Ice Court. But on their way to the ship encountered multiple guards who were then defeated by Nina who took the drug to enhance her powers. She had many side effects, but begged everyone not to give her a second dose, or else she might get worse.
They reach Ketterdam and Kaz, Inej, Matthias, Jesper, and Bo yul Bayur's son go to meet Van Eck, the man who sent them on this mission and get their money.
Ok, by this point I was like, there can't be any more twists, right?
Wrong
Leigh Bardugo had many twists left, Van Eck not giving them their money, us figuring out he just needed the creator of Parem for his own use, Van Eck explaining his hate for Wylan, his son, because he could not read, him using Grisha under control of Parem to destroy the ship where Nina and Wylan were on, us figuring out that Nina and Bo yul Bayur's real son were actually not on the ship but in some free cages at Hellgate and the one standing next to Van Eck was Wylan in disguise as Nina changed his appearance. Then finally Van Eck running off with Inej, and us figuring out Kaz let Pekka Rollins out of the Ice Court.
The book was amazing, but also very confusing. Make sure to keep the maps in handy, they were very helpful.
I haven't read the Crooked Kingdom yet, though I will soon.
No mourners, no funerals.

She-who-fights-and-writes Top 5 Book Recs 2019!!
Tumblr media
Here are my top five books/book series that I think EVERYONE should read or at least try to read in their lifetime!! No matter their standing on this list, I love every single one of these books with my whole heart!!!!!
5. Pet Sematary by Stephen King (Genre: Horror)
Tumblr media
Back cover:
When Dr. Louis Creed takes a new job and moves his family to the idyllic rural town of Ludlow, Maine, this new beginning seems too good to be true. Despite Ludlow’s tranquility, an undercurrent of danger exists here. Those trucks on the road outside the Creed’s beautiful old home travel by just a little too quickly, for one thing…as is evidenced by the makeshift graveyard in the nearby woods where generations of children have buried their beloved pets. Then there are the warnings to Louis both real and from the depths of his nightmares that he should not venture beyond the borders of this little graveyard where another burial ground lures with seductive promises and ungodly temptations. A blood-chilling truth is hidden there—one more terrifying than death itself, and hideously more powerful. As Louis is about to discover for himself sometimes, dead is better…
I didn’t sleep for two days after finishing this book. I had to read it in the morning, never at night, and couldn’t put it down whenever I picked it up. However, this book is really a testament to Stephen King’s reputation as the dominator of the horror/suspense genre of fiction.
Beautifully descriptive and creepy, it gives a shocking new perspective of the consequences of playing God. With a very much flawed and very much human main character, along with a gripping story that raises the hairs on the back of your neck, Pet Semetary is the perfect book to read when you’re feeling a flare for the supernatural.
4. The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer (Genre: Sci-Fi)
Tumblr media
Back cover of Cinder:
CINDER, a gifted mechanic in New Beijing, is also a cyborg. She's reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister's sudden illness. But when her life becomes entwined with the handsome Prince Kai's, she finds herself at the centre of a violent struggle between the desires of an evil queen - and a dangerous temptation. Cinder is caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal. Now she must uncover secrets about her mysterious past in order to protect Earth's future. This is not the fairytale you remember. But it's one you won't forget.
These books broke me out of a serious book hangover (caused by the #1 series on this list) and made me realize “Wait, there are other books in this world that can be enjoyed besides this series.”
Funny and captivating, this book puts an interesting twist on classic fairytales. Instead of being the kind of twist where everything is unnecessarily gory and dark, this puts a futuristic spin on the classic stories that we all know and love.
The characters are amazing and very diverse, and although the stories are similar to the Grimm’s fairy tales, they’re a whole new ballpark plot-wise that keeps you on the edge of your seat!
3. In Order to Live by Yeonmi Park (Genre: Memoir)
Tumblr media
Back cover:
“I am most grateful for two things: that I was born in North Korea, and that I escaped from North Korea.”
Still in her early twenties, Yeonmi Park has lived through experiences that few people of any age will ever know--and from which most would never recover. At age thirteen, together with her mother, she made a harrowing escape from brutal conditions in North Korea. Two years later, they reached South Korea and freedom. But the devestating journey in between cost Park her childhood and nearly her life. As she writes, “I convinced myself that a lot of what I had experienced never happened. I taught myself to forget the rest.”
In In Order to Live, Park sines light not just into the darkest corners of life in North Korea, describing the deprivation and deception she endured and that millions of North Korean people continue to endure to this day, but also onto her own most painful and difficult memories. She tells with bravery and dignity for the first time the story of how she and her mother were betrayed and sold into sexual slavery in China and forced to suffer terrible psychological and physical hardship.
Park confronts her past with a startling resilience. In spite of everything, she has never stopped being proud of where she is from, and never stopped striving for a better life. Today she is a human rights activist working determinedly to bring attention to the oppression taking place in her home country. Park’s testimony is rare, edifying, and terribly important, and the story she tells in In Order to Live is heartbreaking and unimaginable but never without hope.
This book changed my life.
Riveting, beautiful, and at heartbreaking, it really made me appreciate what I have in life and made me more aware of things that are currently happening in the world as we speak.
I think that no one should be able to talk about North Korea and about how it’s not a big deal that we help the people there until they read this book.
Truly an amazing and unbelievable story.
2. The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller (Genre: Fantasy)
Tumblr media
Back cover:
Achilles, "the best of all the Greeks," son of the cruel sea goddess Thetis and the legendary king Peleus, is strong, swift, and beautiful— irresistible to all who meet him. Patroclus is an awkward young prince, exiled from his homeland after an act of shocking violence. Brought together by chance, they forge an inseparable bond, despite risking the gods' wrath.
They are trained by the centaur Chiron in the arts of war and medicine, but when word comes that Helen of Sparta has been kidnapped, all the heroes of Greece are called upon to lay siege to Troy in her name. Seduced by the promise of a glorious destiny, Achilles joins their cause, and torn between love and fear for his friend, Patroclus follows. Little do they know that the cruel Fates will test them both as never before and demand a terrible sacrifice.
A phenomenally written and emotional re-telling of the classic Greek epic the Iliad that delves into the romantic relationship between Achilles and Patroclus.
Madeline Miller truly has an undeniable god-given talent for writing; her descriptions and storytelling makes for a book that you CANNOT put down once you’ve picked it up.
I read this book in a day and had a serious, serious book hangover afterward; I literally could NOT stop thinking about it for days. It just sticks with you, you know?
Me and my mom both wept over this book; it is truly a triumph and a masterpiece.
1. The Grishaverse by Leigh Bardugo (Genre: Fantasy)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Back cover of Shadow and Bone, first book in The Grisha Trilogy:
Soldier. Summoner. Saint. Orphaned and expendable, Alina Starkov is a soldier who knows she may not survive her first trek across the Shadow Fold―a swath of unnatural darkness crawling with monsters. But when her regiment is attacked, Alina unleashes dormant magic not even she knew she possessed.
Now Alina will enter a lavish world of royalty and intrigue as she trains with the Grisha, her country’s magical military elite―and falls under the spell of their notorious leader, the Darkling. He believes Alina can summon a force capable of destroying the Shadow Fold and reuniting their war-ravaged country, but only if she can master her untamed gift.
As the threat to the kingdom mounts and Alina unlocks the secrets of her past, she will make a dangerous discovery that could threaten all she loves and the very future of a nation.
Welcome to Ravka . . . a world of science and superstition where nothing is what it seems.
Back cover of Six of Crows, first book in the Six of Crows Duology:
Ketterdam: a bustling hub of international trade where anything can be had for the right price―and no one knows that better than criminal prodigy Kaz Brekker. Kaz is offered a chance at a deadly heist that could make him rich beyond his wildest dreams. But he can't pull it off alone. . . .
A convict with a thirst for revenge. A sharpshooter who can't walk away from a wager. A runaway with a privileged past. A spy known as the Wraith. A Heartrender using her magic to survive the slums. A thief with a gift for unlikely escapes.
Six dangerous outcasts. One impossible heist. Kaz's crew is the only thing that might stand between the world and destruction―if they don't kill each other first.
The Grishaverse is a group of series that are all set within the same universe where magic runs wild and the world-building-- from the culture of each country to the unique landscapes--is so phenomenal that you almost wish you could jump right into the book like Blue’s Clues and live there forever.
Leigh Bardugo is my favorite author of all time.
Her writing is beyond any other tier that I have every had the pleasure to read, to the point where I couldn’t read any other books for a good year after finishing the Six of Crows Duology because it set my standards so high for YA fantasy.
There are many books within the Grishaverse-- including the Grisha Trilogy, the Six of Crows Duology, the King of Scars series, and the Language of Thorns storybook--but you don’t have to have read one series to understand the other.
Personally, I like the Six of Crows Duology better than the Grisha Trilogy; it was written afterward and the writing and storytelling is far more evolved and sophisticated.
But even so, Leigh Bardugo really is an incredible storyteller, so if you can get your hands on any of these books, please do!
