As a Thanatos devotee, I normally tend to hate the story of Sisyphus. I however usually see the Greek tales as metaphors for how the Greeks saw elements of the world interact with any other. Finally I decided to put some thought into the tale of Sisyphus, and finally I understood. Sisyphus hid death from the world, and his punishment was the torture of repetition. It’s a metaphor for how valuable death, Thanatos, is for us. Ares freeing Thanatos was a metaphor for how without Death there is no glory or passion in life. Without Death, or change, we are all suffering in stagnant repetition.

Thanatos
“The thought of a Grim Reaper never scared me very much. If someone offered to walk you home in the dark, wouldn't you accept? Wouldn't it be nice to have a hand to hold?”

I need to remind myself to find more stuff for the Persephone and Hades shared altar, I could make one for Artemis too, but since I already basically decorate the area with nature stuff, I think if I tried to make an altar for her it'd be a bit of a mess. I like to think that our pasture is our altar for her since we do get deer naturally passing through. Anyways I had reblogged someone and posted old screenshots of my Thanatos altar, but now I get to show the slight changes as well as the Hades and Persephone altar.
But here's the link to the original thing.

Death must be so beautiful. To lie in the soft brown earth, with the grasses waving above one's head, and listen to silence. To have no yesterday, and no tomorrow. To forget time, to forgive life, to be at peace. - The Canterville Ghost, Oscar Wilde

I have begged for you to steal me away, Relieve me of this sinuous and torturous place. I have tired to invoke your presence, Yet you have never taken me.
You say "Oh child, there is so much my antipode has to offer, though you cannot see it, for your eyes are covered in bloody silk."  And I cried because I begged for your love, And I had tried so hard for your release.
But interfering with your divine duties would make me a blasphemer, And despite my suffering, your love stops you from taking me. So, I honor what you do, and I revel in your love. My lord, I wait for you.

Anyone else feel like they can feel their gods when they talk with them (weather it be when doing tarot spread to communicate, when praying, or other divination). And I don’t mean in like a feel their presence but like get the sensation of touch?
For example this happens a lot with Loki, who I’ve started working with, like I get the feeling of him draping himself over my back and watching the cards over my shoulder, like I feel him there. Another prime example is Thanatos, I often kinda feel him just hold my hands when I’m at his alter .

I am currently working on a novel which contains some hellenic deities, namely Hades, Persephone and Thanatos. I don't worship any of these deities at the moment (though I have researched Hades in the past), but because I, any many others, are frustrated with constant misrepresentation and disrespect of the Gods in media, I want to be respectful to them. I'm going to set up altars and give small offerings for as long as I am writing the book and doing lots of research to ensure that my information is accurate. If anyone who worships / works with any of these deities, I'd greatly appreciate if you could maybe reach out or suggest some simple ways to honour / pay my respects to them. I would also appreciate if anyone has any sources on them. Thanks!

I have always been a worshipper of Thanatos and Hypnos. I knew they were close but I never truly realized it. I work as a vet tech, I have been one for 4 months now.
As those dogs who lived and loved and been loved and ran and slept and ate and drank and played and rested fell to the arms of Thanatos
I saw Hypnos petting them as Thanatos took their souls
I saw them sleeping gently on the stretcher, I felt Thanatos's warmth fill the room and the room turn cold as He took the loved ones to their final place

So we all know that deities show up looking different for different people, but Hypnos has always looked the same to me every time I see him.
Tall, slightly tanned. Long white, curly hair. Only one head wing, not sure why. Freckled, but in the shape of stars. Golden eyes with eyebags. Fairly young, like 20s looking. He wears one shoulder robes, white or purple. He usually has a crown of poppies but sometimes it’s an eye mask. Sometimes he has a blanket over his shoulders like a cloak and of course bunny slippers. He always looks ready for bed, unsurprisingly.
He sounds very quiet, soft spoken and never raises his voice. Gentle on pitch, pretty androgynous. In fact he’s just androgynous in general.
I don’t work with Thanatos, but I have an image of him I’m assuming from Hypnos. Since the two are so closely linked. He looks very similar, obviously since they’re twins. But he’s paler, his hair is straighter and his face is usually obscured by a hood. I’ve never heard him speak, I just vaguely know what he looks like. Same eyes, similar height. Although Thanatos seems more… skeletal? Like he’s got sharper cheekbones and his hands are kind of boney. I’d assume because you know, death.
Never seen Nyx, Morpheus etc. although I would like to. Just out of sheer curiosity about what they look like to me.

Thanatos
Tumblr media
So, now that I have this tumblr blog set up for myself, I wanted to share some things that have happened to me. I've seen people on here post about how Thanatos has come to them in a dream, and that's something I have experienced at least perhaps three times? The first time he had chosen to appear looking very similar to the design of the character from the game Hades; his skin tone around the same, the same exact outfit, except he was still also how he's described in Greek texts and legends; with black hair and black feathered wings. I had asked him through tarot the next day if he had done that on purpose as a way to kind of make it obvious to me who he was or just decided to do so to mess with me, in which his answer was that he had done so just to mess with me. The second time he came to me in a dream, I literally don't remember anything that happened, I just remember him being there looking like himself but in an outfit that I tried my best to replicate through drawing. Third time he came to me in a dream, he wasn't actually there, but at the end of the dream I just remember some butterflies coming over to me and landing on me and my instant reaction in the dream was to go; "Hi Than!" in response.
Thanatos does actually try to avoid my dreams, which is kind of sad because a lot of the times I'm lacking motivation to grab my Tarot and interact with him through them, and my Autism and ADHD doesn't help with that either and I've told him he can try and interact with me through dreams. It's just, my dreams have always been a chaotic mess; I could be dreaming about Minecraft and then the next thing I know it's no longer Minecraft related and I'm suddenly somewhere else. Thanatos literally had gotten lost within my first dream in no less than 10 minutes.
Either way, my art style is obviously a bit far from realistic, but yeah, Thanatos is a pretty boy and he knows it.
