Okay, I am watching The Fight. Some points:
Scott thinks he’s asking Stiles, “why didn’t you tell me that Donovan threatened you and your family, and you killed him in a fit of fear and rage?” but Stiles thinks Scott’s making an accusation about the events that actually transpired.
Scott thinks Stiles totally came unhinged, but Stiles is defending both what actually happened, the way he felt about it in the moment, and the way he feels now, which is obviously fucking guilty and sick.
THEY ARE LITERALLY SPEAKING AT SUCH CROSS PURPOSES and Scott even says he wants to believe Stiles, but at no point does Stiles actually explain, “this is what happened” and at no point does Scott ask or question if Theo told the truth. This is of course a character virtue and a flaw, his trust of Theo.
THEY ARE BOTH AT FAULT and how anyone can watch this and say that either of them were right or wrong is beyond me. Because they are both right--Stiles in that he had to defend himself and his family, Stiles in that things are not always as simple as Scott would like to make them. But Scott in that they cannot go into situations thinking that people’s DEATHS are the way to solve them! But they are both wrong in that they did not trust each other with full explanations or even explicit accusations. They allowed it to go on, each of them.

There's so many reasons I love Cam's first duel, and everything that surrounds it. I love that it's yet another building block in the sixth and ninth house relationship, something Gideon latches onto in how Cam fights constantly impressing her, and how Pal's worry for her makes her trust him enough to go to him when she later mistrusts Harrow. I love that the whole lead up to the actual fight is basically everyone going "Not the Sixth house, they can't fight at all, this is so unfair!"
We've already seen a bit of Cam fighting, we know she put Gideon on the backfoot during their brief little clash, but that doesn't necessarily translate in your first reading, because so much of the book is Gideon lamenting how bad she is with a rapier and how much it sucks, you could easily see it as Gideon just not being very good, even though other people repeatedly make it clear she is very good.
And more than anything I love Pal's reactions to it all. Neither he nor Cam even really know dueling etiquette or lingo but they don't have to. And Pal is absolutely furious afterwards, not simply because Judy Duty challenged them, but because she did so without good reason and as a result got two good people injured and opened up the floodgates on so much chaos.
And I very much enjoy that it gives us a little bit of a bigger slice of so many people all at once. Gideon knows far more about fighting than people probably realize, Cam is far more deadly and cunning than anyone has likely given her credit for, and Pal isn't just some know-it-all bookworm, he's clever and capable of intense subterfuge, alongside intense respect and care as shown repeatedly. Judith thinks she's always in the right because she's Cohort to the bone, and she has rules and regulations in her blood. We get yet more hints at the power dynamics at play in the third house and just how utterly ruthless and vicious Ianthe is. It's so many revelations and things that the book has been building towards and I absolutely love every second of it.

the men and boys are innocent too.
we cry "the innocent women and children" to appeal to the masses, to try and force their sympathy, but the men and boys are innocent too.
I have seen sons crying out for their mothers, their fathers, their siblings. I have seen them break down at the loss of their families. I have seen them cling to their dead and grieve.
I have seen fathers cradle their dead children, seen them kiss their faces and hold their little hands. I have seen them faint with grief when asked to identify the dead. I have seen them carry their sons and daughters. I have seen them fasting to provide what little they can for their families.
I have seen men and boys digging through the rubble with just their bare hands, I have seen them comforting strangers, playing with children, rocking them, hushing them, even if the face of such imminent danger. I have seen them cry, seen them grieve, seen them break down into each other's arms, seen them be selfless, beyond selfless, becoming something I don't have a word for.
I have seen the men who are doctors refuse to leave their patients, even when they have no medicine or supplies to give them, even when they're threatened with bombings. I have seen fathers who have lost all their children pick orphans up into their arms and proclaim them their child so they are not alone. I have seen men and boys digging pets out of the rubble.
the men are innocent too. the men and boys are being hurt and killed too. the men and boys are grieving too. the men and boys are scared too. the men and boys are fighting to save their people too. the men and boys deserve to be fought for too.

When I was a teenager and still on Neopets I was part of a pretty big Star Trek guild and eventually became part of its council, with the solemn duty of creating weekly polls. Well one day I created the poll "Which would win in a fight? Borg Cube or Death Star?". Naturally, since this was a Star Trek guild, the answer was overwhelmingly "Borg Cube", but someone did have the rationality to point out we were biased.
So I look up a pretty prominent Star Wars guild and message one of their council and ask them to poll the same question and get back to me in a week. They do, and naturally the fuckin geeks said "Death Star".
So then I look up a Stargate guild and messaged the lead council member, saying the same thing, and they get back to me almost immediately saying that the Death Star would immediately one-shot a Borg Cube but they would never be able to do it again to another Cube. And I took that wisdom back to my guild and we were mollified, and for one moment the Nerd World was peaceful.
