Suiryu x Chubby Reader

Summary: Never in a hundred years did you expect a man like him to like you.

Suiryu loved women. Loved to flirt and play.

He went on more dates already than any other man of his age.

But as soon as he saw you, that all changed.

You were one of the nurses who helped him after Saitama saved him. He was at the hospital for a few days. Almost all of his bones were broken, so he couldn't do much.

Of course, other nurses offered to help him, since they all found him handsome. But he didn't care, from the moment he saw you, you were all he wanted to treat him.

How you met him was by pure chance. A colleague of yours called in sick last minute so you had to take over their patients, and one of those was Suiryu. The moment you locked eyes with him, you knew you were going to like him. But you kept your professionalism and delivered what was expected of a nurse. Even if he kept on flirting and joking with you, you never crossed any boundaries.

And even though you were a bit shy around him, your duty was to help.

"I don't know why you insist on me feeding you Suiryu, you are all healed now."

"I know. But I really enjoy your company Y/N." you smiled and feed him another spoonful of his lunch. "And tomorrow, when I'm going to be let off, I will ask you on a date. Think of your answer before please." he said. It didn't really shock you, you knew he was a flirt, but the fact that he chose you out of all the nurses, did.

Tomorrow came quicker than you expected. As Suiryu was let go, you said your goodbyes at the front of the hospital.

"Be safe please."

"Knowing that such an amazing and kind nurse is waiting for me here is very tempting, but I do not plan on getting hurt. I plan on becoming a real hero, and man deserving you." you blushed a little.

"I like your soo Sui."

"So, will you go on a date with me?"

"Yes, I will." he was so happy, his smile lit up the whole entire world.

"I will pick you up tomorrow when you shift ends. See ya'!" he said as he turned to leave. You were a bit disappointed that he left so quickly, but you were looking forward tomorrow.

But before you could turn around Suiryu was right in front of you as he pecked your lips. He gave you a wink and waved goodbye.

You only stood there frozen. And you would probably still stand there if it wasn't for one of your colleagues yelling at you that your break is over.

Suiryu watches him with the patience of a river carving itself into rock. The effect on Garou is the same; wearing him down as he wears away.

Garou narrows his eyes. —Why?

Suiryu sighs, shaking his head. —Why, why…You love that word, don’t you?

But Suiryu is already shifting his body, making more space, trusting that Garou will follow as surely as smoke follows beauty, or night follows day.

Above them, the sky flares with the first flames of a firebird sunset. Lurid hues of orange, and red consuming pallid shades of yellow and blue.

Garou is shivering. From the cold, from the scene, and from something else. He digs his fingernails into the bare flesh of his crossed arms. He shouldn’t feel like this.

—Sit with me, Suiryu says. Please.

But Garou’s body is already moving for him, toward him, moving on its own. There’s no question of heart; it doesn’t occur to him. But the answer comes easily enough.

Suiryu watches with a sly smile and eyes you could drown in—how chilling, how dark, how deep.

Garou stares back with eyes like flame; with a gaze as readily kindled as extinguished.

Metal Bat: Metal Bat can’t stray far from his little sister, for more than one reason. He has to be there to protect her if necessary, and she’s a bit of a bossy-pants so whatever she says goes. And because of this, Bad has to have his little breakfast-in-bed surprise be at home, when Zenko is at school. He ravishes them with attention, more than usual since they rarely get time alone like this. He puts on a movie, tries not to burn the eggs and bacon, and always brings a small present along with him. This time, it’s a little teddybear. Cliche, he knows, but it’s something he’s always imagined buying them as a small gesture of his love.

Suiryu: Suiryu was hoping to win the tournament so he could lavish his s/o in the fanciest of vacations and expensive gifts. But after recovering from his attack at the hands of Bakuzan, Suiryu is humbled by his encounter and decides to enjoy life for what it offers him now, in the present. Luckily for him, it’s him and his s/o’s anniversary the next day, so sets out to make a grand breakfast for them both to enjoy together. He revels in the way his s/o’s eyes light up at the sight of the food and him, squealing with happiness. He’s learned that the small things are important, while money and fame can come after.

Saitama: This man is so goddamn lazy that even when he plans a breakfast in bed for his s/o, he orders the entire thing in (he can and will Postmate everything, right down to the orange juice). Saitama and his s/o usually wake up later than most, so he sets the delivery to be brought at around 10:30 or 11am. It’s right on time, and he carries everything to the bed, where a couple things are nearly spilled. His s/o flips to their favorite game show and they sit together giggling and enjoying themselves. Saitama doesn’t need a special occasion to treat his s/o like royalty, he kinda does whatever he wants, whenever he wants. :)

Amai Mask: Oh yeah, it’s gonna get fancy. Amai Mask spares no expense for his s/o’s birthday, and that means a glorious breakfast-in-bed at the fanciest hotel he can get. Not only is it a suite overlooking the beautiful City C, but it’s got every amenity they love. All Amai Mask has to do is give the call and the food is already on its way to them, being delivered right in front of them without him having to move a muscle. While they wait, the handsome boi takes this moment to give them a few gifts he picked out that they had shown interest in earlier before (oh yes, he listens and is observational). Once the food is there, it’s all smiles as the most relaxing birthday ever begins for Amai Mask’s s/o.

Speaking of Neo Heroes' security guards doing the housekeeping at Badd's house as part of the deal between Badd and Neo Heroes when he joined them, this makes me think:

- "What if redeemed Garou successed at infiltrating Neo Heroes without getting recognized and disguising himself as Badd's guard?" -

This is just pure self-indulging thought because imagine this: Current Garou, the calmer, wiser, matured, yet still powerful as ever, been wanting to return the favor to Badd for defending him in the previous battle and also to protect him from Neo Heroes' shady schemes, he decided to infiltrate Neo Heroes with his new identity and becomes Badd's security guard.

Of course I know this scenario wont be possible at all because of Neo Heroes would investigate everyone to the tiniest details, and some of Neo Heroes members already recognized Garou in canon webcomic just like the whole Suiryu's team squad did. But let's just think they would be fooled by Garou's new persona when he enrolled the job.

Not to mention, let's just assumed enrolling the job as Neo Heroes' staff would be separated from the regular member's employment and many of Neo Heroes' execs haven't familiarized yet with Garou's new appearance.

The setting could be after Garou got ambushed by Suiryu's team and also after Badd got attacked by Neo Heroes' cyborgs, since I think these events occured on the same time or at least at the same week, imho. So, once Garou heard about what happened to the Neo Heroes' members, he got worried for Badd and decided to sorta helped him in a way by become his personal guard.

During the interview, Garou would giving "made up" personal data that wont mentioned any of Bang's influence or everything related to his mentor. During the physical test, he would only using the most basic martial art moves in front of the execs so they wont recognizing his distinct style.

Garou successfully passed the test and get the job, at the same time when Neo Heroes' need a new security guard for Badd since the delinquent hero already kicked out the latest guard from his house for being "too goddamn nosy", courtesy by the furious Badd himself. Badd said he wanted a more decently normal guard and not a creep. That was a great chance for Garou to fill the requirement as his security guard.

Imagine the short-haired Garou wearing a suit like usual bodyguard outfit, looking so neat, professional, and reserved. And he was standing in front of Badd's front door, ready to greet the hero (who saved his life before) then introducing himself as both his new bodyguard and housekeeping guard.

Eventhough from outside Garou looked very calm, actually he was a bit nervous because he would meet Badd again. Unsure if he should be proud that he got a real good job in which he could be by Badd's side, or afraid that Badd would reject him then kick him out from the house just like what he did to other previous guards.

The moment Badd opened the door to scold and complained whoever Neo Heroes stubbornly have sent to him, he got tongue-tied by Garou's appearance. At first Badd still not recognized his identity, but after inspecting him for a few seconds Badd immediately gawked and immediately yanked Garou into the house, closing the door so noone would hear their conversation.

Badd realized that this man, this charming mysterious person, his new bodyguard, is Garou. Garou the ex Hero Hunter, Human Monster, the former enemy who put him into hospital yet also the one whom he protected from the rest of S-Class heroes, the reason why Badd leaving Hero Association, now was standing before him. Introducing himself as Neo Heroes' new security guard who will "keep him and his lil sister" from any danger outside.

Not easily convinced, Badd cornered Garou and asking if Garou has gone crazy for joining Neo Heroes, too. Especially now Badd knew that they were such scumbags disguising themself as saviors.

Garou calmly answered that he already know firsthandly of what Neo Heroes is, also had heard of what they have done to Badd. Hence he became a double agent: working for Neo Heroes to gain their trust so he can protect Badd from anyone, including Neo Heroes members itself since he has the privillege to do that. Of course by doing that, Garou must be smart enough to trick them and manipulated the reports so they wont gain Badd's personal information that was too private to be shared because it could endangered Badd's life.

Garou doesn't care if this could endanger himself should Neo Heroes realizing his true intention. As long as Badd is safe, he wont give a fuck for all of Neo Heroes' bullshits again. Nobody would hurt Badd any longer, let the delinquent hero do his job properly without any disturbance.

Badd was surprised at how far Garou willing to do for the sake of him, but he still wont convinced enough of him because at this point it seems Badd couldn't trust people anymore since the Hero Association's post-war chaos and Neo Heroes' cyborgs assault.

Garou knows Badd got trust issue because of them, same as what Garou feels after all this time. Wanted to reassure Badd, Garou kneeled before Badd and vowed to him, that he definitely will keep Badd and Zenko safe at all cost. If something wrong happened between Badd and him that makes he should betray Badd, Badd has the full rights to punish him severely and he wont fights Badd back. His life is fully on Badd's hand and not Neo Heroes'. With pleasure, Garou pledged his loyalty just for Badd only. Only him.

Garou ended his vow by taking Badd's hand and kissed his knuckles softly. Then he gave Badd such tender genuine smile with equally tender adoring gaze, because for Garou this man in front of him is his "Hero". Now he would return the favor by cherishing Badd and make him happy.

Listening Garou's vow and receiving sweet gestures from him made Badd flustered, he didn't expect that the ex Hero Hunter who hunted him down would be willing to be his loyal guard. Even swore to cherish him. That's more than a regular guard should do to their client!

Badd had thought he didn't deserved to be treated so nicely like this since he was just doing what he thinks is right. Also he wasn't often getting praised at all by people hence he still hasn't used by it. But seeing how genuine and determinated Garou is, somehow it warms Badd's heart. That Garou really appreciating him to the point he wanted to return the favor, in which Garou didn't have to do that yet he still do it out of free will.

Finally, Badd accepting Garou's offer and trusted him to do his job as his bodyguard. Like Garou has promised before, if someday Garou has to betray his trust, Badd will not hesitated to demolish the wolfman. Monster form or not.

With a bright yet soothing smile, Badd helped Garou to stand up again from his kneeling position and then hugged him tightly.

And saying, "Welcome home, Garou".

Bonus headcanon:

Imagine how often Garou gets Badd blushing madly just by appearing as professional bodyguard, so handsome and charming. Not to mention now Garou showing more responsible and mature side of him that put Badd in awe everytime Garou doing his job properly. Sometimes it distracted Badd's mind and every single memories of the wolfman being so sweet and loving to him lives in his head rent free.

Also, Zenko totally adores Garou and really glad that he wasn't like those creepy bodyguards that Badd had to kick out before. More often Zenko asked Garou to be more casual and to treat Badd more as a friend and not as a client, since she told Garou that her bigbro loves his presence especially when both of them were off-duty at home.

Gradually, Garou becomes more laid-back around Badd (except when he was on-duty or still under Neo Heroes' surveillance). They're eventually becomes bestfriends, completing and complementing eachother since they both were alone and lonely boys.

Secretly without Neo Heroes' knowledge, Garou has been helping Badd to cope with his doomed situation under Neo Heroes' cruel scheme by finally having someone trusted enough on his side when he need it, as he will be always on Badd's side no matter what. Even as far manipulated the daily reports brilliantly so Neo Heroes wont touch Badd with their dirty hands anymore. Anything Garou will do, for Badd.

In return, Badd wont let anyone to hurt Garou again, even if it's Neo Heroes itself. The ex Hero Hunter has already suffered enough. Badd would try his best to cooperate with Garou so they both could make convincing "false reports" while they enjoyed their secret private life together. If someone from Neo Heroes found out what they have done, Badd worried if Garou would be taken away from him. Or worst, gets a fate worse than death. And Badd doesn't want that happens.

On the brighter side, Garou could spend time together most of the time with. Even living with Badd as a privillege of his bodyguard status and Badd's seal of approval to the Neo Heroes execs (so they would let Garou lives together with him, for "surveillance" reason).

Sometimes Garou also assisting Badd in a battle when he was still on bodyguard duty, ensuring Badd wont be too reckless during fighting the enemies. If Badd was injured, Garou was the first one who reacted and immediately taking care of him at home, or bringing him to the nearest hospital if the injuries were quite heavy and need proper medical treatment.

Imagine Garou bridal-carried Badd towards hospital. Badd was actually unconscious at first, but when he regained his consciousness the first thing he saw was Garou's handsome face with those seriously worried expression. That made Badd swooning because: 1. "Why did Garou has to be THIS gorgeous even in pinch situation like this??"; 2. "But he cares so much to me, this strangely makes me happy in some way..";

Then Badd pretended to be passed out in Garou's arms, just so he can peek on Garou's face. Spoiler: Garou knows it the entire time, but he let Badd enjoyed the scenery while he focused on running to hospital.

Imagine the off-duty Badd walking around the town together with Garou. Or going to family picnic with Zenko and Garou has to "keep on eye" on them (when in fact Garou just having fun together with them as it's just a false report for the Neo Heroes execs, Neo Heroes surveillance be damned).

Maybe somewhere in the future, Badd would finally releasing himself from Neo Heroes' grasp and decided to be vigilante, followed by Garou who rebelled against Neo Heroes since his loyalty is only for Badd. Noone can stop them as vigilante duo. Maybe at that point, one of them would confessed their feeling to the other and then they would become lovers, too..

1/2 Another thing that's pretty sure to be different for the Void siblings is the fact that they actually have contact in the manga. Suiko was actually searching her brother in the webcomic. Now that she knows of his ambition why would she except the H.A. invite. Because she doesn't trust her bro to help the dojo's reputation? I imagine Suiryu will probably go to the Neo instead of HA (since he respects it's heroes) less for convenience but he found it a more ambitious road.

2/2 I have this weird dream scenario that Webigaza might be the one to invite Suiryu later this arc in the hospital in front of Suiko. It makes sense in my mind sending the popular idol to enlist the playboy. Webi's introduction would be amazing with the obvious contrast between her and Suiko. Plus if they developed a rivalry or Suiko grows mistrustful towards Webi, Suiko would have a decent reason to join the HA to keep an eye on her from a safe distance. But that's just a silly headcanon.

There are indeed a couple of interesting wrinkles here, that’s for sure! With manga!Suiryu having been saved by pro-heroes, something has to happen if he’s to end up with the Neo Heroes. Maybe he’s recruited personally. Maybe his lust for easy money makes its voice heard.

It certainly was a relief to Suiko in the webcomic to not only find her brother well, but doing something productive with his life. Interesting to think that seeing her brother’s ambition to be a hero might inspire her to do the same. Ah well, we shall see.

It’s certainly going to be interesting to follow.

Did some fanart for Garou, the Hero Hunter (and one of my favorite bois lol) along with a scene from PandoraMajora’s Fanfic, Monster Love, which is mainly a random set of fanfics with various scenarios being placed that involves the Reader (which be you) and Garou. Also, fair warning, some of the stories are heavy on the NSFW section, but there are those that are also SFW for those that want to play it safe.

Another piece involves Garou (the wolf) and Suiryu (the dragon) from the OVA episode. That’s all I’m gonna say on that lol

Toonami Weekly Recap 11/02/2019

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind EP#02 - Bucciarati Is Coming: In a flashback, it is revealed that Giorno, who was once abused by his step-father and bullied by other kids, began being treated with respect after saving an injured gangster, giving him a reason to live. Back in the present, faced with Bucciarati's Stand, Sticky Fingers, Giorno desperately uses Gold Experience to defend himself. Upon striking Bucciarati, the latter's senses to go berserk, giving Giorno the upper hand. Bucciarati creates a dimension-distorting zipper to try and escape inside another person, but Giorno tracks him down by turning one of Bucciarati's teeth into a fly, which attempts to return to his body. Given the chance to finish Bucciarati off, Giorno decides against it, instead asking to join his organization so he can defeat his boss and take over the city.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba EP#04 - Final Selection: Two years have passed since Nezuko's transformation, and Tanjiro leaves for the Final Selection. Before his departure, Urokodaki warns him that a demon's strength is equivalent to the number of humans it has eaten, gifting him a fox mask with a protection spell. Tanjiro reaches Mt. Fujikasane, where wisteria flowers bloom all year round, creating a prison for demons. The test administrators, a pair of twins, explain that only those who can survive here for 7 days will pass. Tanjiro is soon ambushed by two hungry demons on his very first night. Using a special "Nichirin Blade" that can kill demons without risk of them regenerating, Tanjiro remembers his training and utilises Total Concentration: Water Breathing swordsmanship style, to unleash an attack that kills them quickly. However, him and another applicant come face-to-face with a huge morphed demon made out of ghastly hands. This Hand Demon promises to kill him, recognising Tanjiro as Urokodaki's student from the fox mask, and gleefully admits to murdering 13 of Urokodaki's students since he was captured by the man himself, Sabito and Makomo included. Tanjiro attacks him, enraged. Back at the boulder, Sabito and Makomo's ghosts wonder if Tanjiro can defeat their killer, having failed themselves to slice its neck. Sabito recalls that Tanjiro sliced through the toughest boulder of all of them and chooses to believe. By unleashing an array of attacks, Tanjiro successfully decapitates the Hand Demon.

One-Punch Man 2 EP#04 (16) - The Metal Bat: It is revealed that when Garou was young, he always rooted for the bad guys to win due to the good guys being too popular. When he asked his father, his father replies that the good guys will always win. Garou find that unfair to the monsters because to him the monsters were always the ones trying their best to win, but will lose all the time because they were seen as "freaks." Unwilling to accept the status quo, Garou resolved to become the strongest monster and never lose, and to change the scenario. Garou wakes up from his defeat against Saitama, with no memory of what happened. Garou meets up with Tareo and sees Watchdog Man and Metal Bat, and plans to find them. Saitama signs up for the fighting tournament, and is looking over a list of the contestants of the tournament when Sour Face, a former disciple of Bang, shows up. Sour Face plans to win the tournament to be famous like Bang, and reveals that the year before a contestant named Wolfman won the tournament. However the authorities found the real Wolfman tied up, which is why there's a new rule that if there are any participants that are wearing disguises or is an imposter, then the participant will be disqualified and banned from the tournament forever, as well as paying a heavy fee. It is also revealed that 6 months ago Garou decided that he has nothing left to learn and rampaged through the dojo, disabling many of the students, including Sour Face. Garou then received a beating from Bang and was expelled from the dojo, which also caused Sour Face to quit the dojo. When Sour Face insults "Charanko", Saitama points out that at least Charanko was brave enough to fight against Garou one on one while Sour Face quit, and vows to win the tournament which angers Sour Face. Meanwhile, the Hero Association plans to protect its officials from monster attacks by assigning S Class Heroes. King manages to get away by lying that he's fighting against a secret boss when in reality he is playing a video game. Metal Bat is forced to babysit Narinki, a VIP sponsor of the Hero Association, and his son Waganma at a Mouse Sushi restaurant in S-City instead of watching his little sister play piano. When Metal Bat receives a call from his sister, two monsters named Junior Centipede and Venus Mantrap attack Nanrinki but Metal Bat easily kills them. Suddenly, another monster named Senior Centipede attacks Metal Bat. A monster named Raffleseidon appears and puts on sleeping gases which knocks out Narinki and Waganma. Metal Bat is forced to endure many hits before hitting himself in the head, which pumps adrenaline into his system, rendering the gas useless and enabling him to kill the two Demon Level monsters with one hit apiece. Two local heroes take Narinki and Waganma when a Dragon-level monster named Elder Centipede attacks Metal Bat. During the fight, Elder Centipede knocks Metal Bat near Garou. Thinking that Metal Bat is dead, Garou plans to find Watchdog Man when Metal Bat gets back up. Garou naturally wants to fight Metal Bat, but Metal Bat wants to go back after Elder Centipede. Garou initiates the fight by attacking Metal Bat, and Metal Bat barely manages to block the preemptive blow. In the post credit scene, a martial artist named Suiryu asks two girls to lead him to the Fight tournament.

Dr. Stone Kingdom of Science Arc EP#11 - Clear World: Senku uses quartz sand to produce glass, which he uses to create glasses for the short-sighted Suika. Lacking the skills needed to glassblow useable lab utensils, Chrome brings in a skilled craftsman named Kaseki, who is able to quickly adapt to the unfamiliar substance. To break in their new lab, Senku offers to make Ginro a silver spear as part of a dangerous mission.

Fire Force EP#14 - For Whom The Flame Burns: While chaos reigns in Asakusa with Infernals appearing and people's appearance being changed at random, Konro and Benimaru argue over who should take charge. Benimaru eventually defers and gains everyone's attention. He explains what's happening, then goes after the Infernals while Konro and Company 7 attend to the fires. Meanwhile, Shinra and Arthur face Haran who has become a horned Infernal after swallowing an Infernal Bug. However, Benimaru intervenes and attacks Haran with his Ignition ability. Benimaru launches Haran into the air with his matoi to spare the town, but Arrow fires a flaming arrow towards them. Shinra uses all of his speed to intercept and deflect the arrow, allowing Benimaru to take the opportunity to use his Crimson Moon (紅月 Akatsuki) avility to create a massive explosion which destroys Haran. Shinra catches Benimaru as he falls from the sky, completely spent from the confrontation. Later, Benimaru and Obi share some sake, sealing the friendship between Companies 7 and 8.

Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Soma EP#17 - The Seductive Karaage: Arriving back home, Soma temporarily re-opens Yukihira Diner to serve his loyal customers, including his childhood friend, Mayu Kurase, who has a crush on him. He learns that the Sumire Shopping District has been doing poor business lately due to the arrival of a popular karaage chain shop, Mozuya. Wanting to help revive the shopping district, Soma decides to come up with a competing karaage recipe, calling in Ikumi as his meat expert while Mayu winds up as his taste tester. The three do some recon at Mozuya, where they find its CEO Kinu Nakamozu to be a spiteful woman, before beginning work on a karaage recipe of their own. As Soma takes Mayu's suggestion to use their shopping district location to their advantage, it is revealed that the figure behind Mozuya's success is one of the Elite Ten.

Lupin the 3rd Part 5 EP#20 - Zenigata, Gentleman Thief: Lupin, Jigen and Goemon take a trip to one of their old haunts in Russia to carry out some easy heists. To their surprise, they find another party of thieves already raiding the same targets with their old enemy Zenigata among their ranks. When Lupin talks with Zenigata, he finds that the latter has alcoholic amnesia from a massive drinking bout after another failure to catch Lupin. Zenigata has adopted the alias "Monety" and the modus operandi of his old nemesis Lupin while trying to uncover his lost identity. Unwilling to leave Zenigata in that condition, Lupin and company intercept Zenigata at the site of his next heist. When Lupin and Zenigata escape the crime scene together, the encounter finally snaps Zenigata's memory back into place, and to everyone's relief their relationship returns to its usual state.

Black Clover: Elf Tribe Reincarnation Arc EP#93 - Julius Novachrono: Marx, the Wizard King's advisor, sends word to every squad captain, ordering them to help the Wizard King. Licht's spells cause massive damage to the city, yet Julius holds back so as not to injure Vangeance's body. Julius reveals his Grimoire, which is so large with so many pages it has no cover, just an endless circle of pages around a central spine. Licht comes to believe that as he had planned to unbalance the world by eradicating humans, fate itself conspired to restore balance by creating Julius as the embodiment of order. Licht casts a spell powerful enough to completely wipe out the entire country. Julius recalls his youth as a magic knight, searching for his life's purpose, until he met Zara, Zora's father, who taught him that a true knight should serve the people. After Zara was murdered Julius grew disgusted at the way the class system kept both nobles and commoners from reaching their potential. He decided to become the Wizard King so he could help make the world a better place through the efforts of knights like Asta, Yuno and Noelle. Refusing to give in Julius uses all his accumulated time to reverse the entire country back a few seconds, saving everybody but leaving himself open to Licht who stabs him in the heart. Yami arrives too late to stop him and draws his sword in preparation to kill both Licht and Vangeance.

Fun notes and commentary on Ova4: Games and Rivals

Takes place sometime soon after Boros, and it’s a worldwide online battle tournament with animal avatars. Possible to compete (freely) with either traditional gaming controls or a VR headset using your own moves/skills. For the winning prize of 5 million yen. Here’s what the competitive dorks chose:

Saitama: gorilla (always goes for the brute force power types)

Garou: wolf (obviously!)

Suiryu: dragon (name pun on ‘ryu’)

King: pink koala (dangerously unassuming and girly, of course)

It gets me that Genos never chooses to participate in these things himself; he rather observes and analyzes from the sidelines. (No chill and no fun! Always takes things seriously for a studying opportunity.) While providing supportive morale for Saitama however.

It’s funny how Saitama’s easily swayed by the prize money, but also how he assumes his power will be translated through the VR system for an instant win. (That’s not how it works!) He even admits he’s not that good at video games, and Genos even tells him ‘you should have no problem if you fight like always.’ Oh boy…:’D

Naturally, he’s instantly K.O.’d by King. “Perhaps the game cannot reflect the power of sensei’s punch.” Genos muses. Naturally, he’s pissed on Saitama’s behalf for the loss, but Saitama tells him to direct that anger towards monsters instead. :’) (Which he also jots down in his notebook, aha.) He reasons there must be someone out there with comparable strength to Saitama if they were able to beat him like this with the same VR headset! Impossible! (Oh my gosh, how that’s flawed…and lul the irony.)

Meanwhile, they spot competitor screens from other venues, where Garou (oh who could it be?! fighting as a wolf of course) easily wins and rises the ranks. It’s funny how he’d choose to enter + show off his skills in a gaming tournament like this of all things, but hey, it’s another competition with prize money to be won. :P (Since this is still early on before any of them met, he’s probably still messing around on his dojo hunting days.) Suiryu’s also spotted easily winning other matches, fighting as a dragon using only kick moves. Both of them remark how lackluster the current challengers are…

Until they face each other in the semifinals! Wolf vs Dragon! Genos wants to continue watching, but Saitama’s bummed and wants to go home and eat. They stay and comment how Dragon seems like he has the stronger advantage, but also how Wolf is holding back just measuring him up. (Another difference from Genos, but Garou multitasks analyzing his opponent while also actively participating/having fun in fights like this.) ‘Nice, finally a guy with some fight in him!’ and Garou gets more into it.

Genos recognizes Garou’s stance/moves similar to Bang’s, but hilariously Saitama’s all ‘he’d never play video games, plus he doesn’t hunch over’ like that either (pfft now that’s just too funny, plus it’s another fun case of just who could this mystery new lad be?!).

Garou and Suiryu start having more fun duking it out, trading blows and appearing rather evenly matched. What proceeds is a really sweet fanservice dream battle that we’d otherwise never get to see in canon (it was either here in a possible early scenario like this or never, since Suiryu soon becomes too injured and Garou progresses too far for a fair match-up between them) and jumpaoki just goes absolutely ham animating them, what a treat. :’D I love the blocked move homages similar to the Metal Bat fight (but visualized better), and how jumpaoki can portray Garou as a cocky shit to a feral bastard. Nice.

Also, the little pause + walk off they do and the mid-air dodge/spin Garou does, wtf! 8’D Just gotta show it (my gif):

Even Saitama comments on the ‘fun’ they’re having. :’)) (Which he…rarely if ever gets to experience anymore…aww.) But just as Garou’s about to get serious and kick it up a gear…he glitches the game. :O

Apparently, the speed of his moves overloaded the VR system. Which, if we recall from the comments Genos made before, the game’s limited in accurately translating/reflecting the actual power of the user, so I like the implication here that Garou’s already showing signs he’s too strong for the system to register/handle. ;) Some nice little foreshadowing in that. Despite how it’s…unfair and unsportsman-like that Suiryu wails on him while immobilized from a controller error. D:

Garou rightfully gets pissed at that and almost ragequits, but reconsiders and refrains from throwing the headset, saving the staff from incident. :’)) Instead he hands it back to them and asks where to find (Suiryu), but they don’t have the information for that (probably a player confidentiality thing). So guess that’s that for them ever meeting/interacting again~ (What we got was delivered nicely and fun while it lasted!)

The finals proceed and bam, King swiftly destroys Suiryu. :’D (Feels like karma, plus with this outcome, it’s preferable this way than King prematurely facing and beating Garou.) Suiryu muses how there’s no way a player could perform moves like that with a regular controller, and reasons (King) must be a far superior martial artist to him.

Except…surprise! 8D King dominated and did all that with a handheld (he was pretty much there just to try out the latest innovation too), and with his unique and unmatched set of skills, I like the message how there’s more to ‘strength’ than just power alone. Classic.

Waaait uhhh, can I hear about some prominent season one characters; Sonic, Mumen Rider, the S classes (in particular; Tatsumaki) and Lord Boros?

Oho, ok let’s see... :D Again, I read the manga before s1 aired, so I’m basing my honest first impressions off of that (and what I can remember).

Sonic: from his first introductory panels, I remember being excited/intrigued he might be a girl! :O Like, ‘ohh?? A ruthless dark assassin who’s female? That’s pretty fresh/neat!’ Until he was revealed as a dude and I was like, ‘oh. ok.’ Then my interest in him honestly waned. ;o; Simply put, his character’s appeal in the fandom just wasn’t ‘my type’ either. Also because many of his appearances and use in the story were mostly for gags, it wasn’t until ONE finally fleshed out his backstory with Flash (in the webcomic, yes it took that long) that I was like, ‘oho, NOW we’re getting somewhere!’ 8′D That his character finally gained more appeal/substance to me rather than being mostly used as the butt end of a joke. So whew;; I was so glad ONE finally wrote him seriously to be able to appreciate him for real. :’D

Mumen Rider: back then, he went by ‘Licenseless’ in the fandom. A very good, wholesome lad who’s self-aware but also knows what’s best and when to act when it’s the right, helpful thing to do. :’) He feels like the warm comfort of a mug of hot cocoa on a brisk, chill winter morning~

S Class: at first, nothing resonated about them in particular, other than recognizing they were all outlandish & traditional character tropes (on purpose, yes even the offensive/outdated ones to western eyes) that ONE was playing around with and/or deconstructing for the lulz.

Tatsumaki: a little bratty and grating in attitude at first, but seeing how she’s an honest workaholic and asserts her strength brought to the workforce...yes, that’s something I can work with. A bit shockingly heartless in the wc, but the manga fleshing out her character more, and demonstrating both her prowess and efficiently as a hero, now that’s definitely served her well. If it weren’t for Blast’s placeholder then yes, Tatsu would be the top, most active hero! I’m impressed.

Boros: a very flashy and flamboyant dbz parody. Extremely (unfortunately) short-lived too. His presence almost feels out of place in the story looking back in hindsight. But his character marked the end/turning point of opm’s ‘introduction/prologue’ saga, before it could switch from something episodic into something more legit/serious with an ongoing plot~ So I kinda look back at him ruefully, but appreciate how the story transitioned because of him too. :’)

I also wanna hear what you thought about some season two characters other than wolfie; Fubuki, Suiryu (tho I remember going real far back in your blog and you being blunt about not liking the tournament arc, unless I'm misremembering ^^'), Lord Orochi & Gyoro Gyoro. (Also ofc gotta ask if you feel for King's "persona". I remember being genuinely shocked lol.)

Part 2 with s2 characters continued! (Oho other than wolf boy~)

Fubuki: other than her gorgeous face and inferiority complex vs her sister (giving her flaws with which her character can grow), it was specifically her manipulative behaviors (trying to recruit Saitama with ulterior motives, rather than being honest/upfront about it) that honestly put me off about her. Since manipulative characters are not my thing. (Also some trivia: when I showed my mom s2, who yes liked Genos the most in s1 and got feels for Garou in s2, even she disproved of Fubuki too!) So yes, I can honestly say I generally prefer Tatsu over her. However, I feel Fubuki’s strongest character moment is when she finally confronts and asserts herself vs Tatsu in the wc’s post-Garou arc. Which made me honestly proud of her progress. :’) So I hope to see that part (and Fubuki’s true strength) Murata-adapted someday.

Suiryu: so the manga’s tournament arc in general wasn’t my thing either (but I believe gofancy was the one who was most openly blunt about not liking how it overstayed its welcome + real estate.) Simply because it was the first major diversion from the wc, and I remember how Murata’s pace was pretty slow back then too, leading many fans to dropping and/or putting the manga on hold for a while. :’) Suiryu’s initial character wasn’t my type either, for the overconfident, dismissive, sleazy/lazy, self-serving flirty/womanizer traits. Also wasn’t my thing. But I felt his incoming Gouketsu-beatdown was...unfairly brutal. D: Made me feel honestly bad for him. (Yikes, ONE doesn’t hold back at all when characters get their humbling comeuppance.) I’m glad he’s since had a change of heart and seen the value/light of true heroism (which warmed me up to him), but I still don’t know what to think about his wc’s counterpart (which honestly surprised me to see ONE use a previously manga-only character!) Wc Suiryu feels different in vibe, like he’s yet to undergo that same character development. But it seems ONE’s got further plans for Suiryu’s use in the story this way, so I’m eager to see what that’ll be..

Orochi & Gyoro (Psykos): first time seeing Gyoro in the manga I was like !!! 8D because it meant wc Psykos was incoming~ But seeing Orochi I was like w h a t. Because Psykos (Gyoro) was supposed to be the MA’s figurehead, but she was tiny and unassuming compared to...this new guy puppet (??) (She’s now the villain mastermind behind the scenes -played straight- I guess!) So there was confusion at first to what in the world ONE was thinking by presenting them this way! And well, by now Orochi’s inclusion (as the ‘monster king’ to rival what wc Garou would have dominated) has certainly escalated things and wreaked havoc....but we’ve still yet to see how things will resolve following their fusion. So...a big unknown of uncharted territory that’s difficult to form an honest impression about, other than...I’ll wait to see what happens.

King: I personally found his ‘persona’ reveal to be a brilliant twist. :’D He’s also eternally suffering and can’t easily escape from what others assume of him, so wow, I do feel for him. Also probably one of most self-aware, sound of mind (Reigen-equivalent) characters with the most common sense in opm, so that’s pretty fresh/valuable to have. I also personally find his moments to be some of the funniest/absurd in the whole series (especially his wc staredown vs the MA cadres, that’s hilarious) for how he -an otherwise non-powered but anxious guy- manages to survive and bullshit his way out of increasingly ridiculous scenarios! So yes, a very unique and entertaining character who brings some interesting spice to the opm character roster. :D

I haven't seen the video games OVA yet, but I've been told by reliable sources that Garou destroys Suiryu in Mario Kart.

[Ova4 spoilers!!] Well…👀 I’m not too sure about the Mario Kart scenario, but…

Garou’s moves quite frankly destroy and overclock the system! 👀

👀👀👀 You just might be onto something there! Cause now that Suiryu finally exists in the webcomic, there just might be a chance for them to actually meet (beyond the ova virtual reality scenario) someday! :O Esp if ONE had all of this in mind when he (likely) wrote that ova…oho how very sneaky of him. We’ll just have to see what becomes of both webcomic Garou & Suiryu now!

Opm spoilery speculation stewpot

Knowing how ONE loves to twist and play with irony, we have a self-proclaimed monster who’s actually heroic (Garou, the ‘heroic monster’), vs a classified ‘monstrous hero’ (Genos) who’s now suspected by the HA, via Child Emperor, of being the very enemy he’s sworn to defeat. Gosh! AND then we have Saitama, whose truly heroic acts sail under the public’s radar, while his achievements are either considered fraudulent, falsely accredited to others, or taken as monstrous feats of destruction. Gee… (Even subsets of the fandom similarly suspect Genos may actually BE the Mad Cyborg too, while others believe Saitama is physically an actual monster. Both viewpoints play right into ONE’s hands…)

On one hand, we have Garou who took the labels given to him by others, and fully ran with it despite that role conflicting with his true self, vs Saitama who acts in accordance to his own values and does what he wants without worrying what others have to say about it. (He doesn’t care about receiving the public’s criticism or approval.) Add Genos, who has taken Saitama’s valiance to heart, and has sworn to faithfully follow and support him regardless of the public’s perception of him (via his declaration after the Sea King incident). Genos won’t relent on achieving his goal despite what others have to say about it either. Neither of them therefore need the HA’s given ‘pro hero’ title or anyone’s approval to continue their usual acts of heroism together. Who does need the public’s approval to stay afloat however, is actually the HA, whose recent track record has been slipping to the point another rival organization, the Neo Heroes, has pledged to reform and take its place (and who can claim they’ll be any more successful?)

Now we have a situation where if something happens to the HA, Saitama and Genos could be left together as free agents (they already decided not to join the Neo Heroes anyway). BUT if the rumors about them sour the public’s perception of them just like the HA’s, they could very well end up isolated or falsely accused of being monsters/villains just as ONE’s possible lead up may suggest. :O The story’s true heroes unfairly judged as monsters? While the story’s self-proclaimed monster was actually a hero all along!? Blasphemy!! And now, wouldn’t that ironic injustice royally piss Garou off. :P In that scenario, I can see Garou becoming a potential ally to them. Especially when the ‘earth is in danger’ prophecy is still at large. When the time comes, his strength may become necessary support again. Especially when the possible foes to humanity include the wrath from the entity ‘God’ himself...

And so, when the earth is truly in trouble, who will the public turn to then? Those who they’ve unfairly turned their back on, yet who still strive to do what’s right, or those with unreliable and uncertain track records? With whom will the public place their faith?

Where the webcomic has paused at ch109, the opm world is left pending in an unstable state of flux. Things have been brewing behind the scenes, with many unfinished plot threads, and ONE has yet to reveal where all that built up tension will go. Currently, he’s focusing on improving/revising how the manga will align with what he’s got planned, or perhaps he will ultimately decide to diverge from the webcomic’s existing plotline completely. Regardless of what happens, Saitama will be there to rise against the challenge, and depending on how ONE handles it, he could very well rouse the kind of heroic values in times of need that Garou had always wanted to incite, yet this time done in more constructive ways. (We’ve already seen small glimpses of that happening, when Suiryu saw the light from Saitama’s influence. Now it just needs to happen on a larger scale for effectual societal change to happen.) Whatever ONE’s got planned, I have faith and I’m definitely looking forward to it, especially if he likely ends up twisting all expectations along the way. :D
