erin swallowed hard, gaze fixed on dean's as he tried to push through the walls that she'd spent so long putting up around herself. retreating, disappearing, isolating herself had always been her coping mechanism of choice. apparently, there were things that you couldn't grow out of, and this was one of them. "i know i didn't have to." erin agreed, smile on her face as she stepped across the threshold into the hadler apartment, making a beeline for a kitchen counter to carefully place her food order on top of. "but it's always a nice surprise when someone turns up with food." it was certainly a way to win her over without too much thinking about it. she was a sucker for a carton of chinese food and a beer. "and i figure since you were here on your own, and i had nothing better to do, i should come and keep you company!"
conferences were part of being a doctor. he has been to a few himself, and so has patrick. they will never stop. and they did enjoy them, meeting new people in their field, learning new techniques. they just hated how they always had to leave the other behind. he had just gotten home, he had a shorter day in the OR, the rest of the day was full of consults. he actually had just placed a food order when there was a knock on the door. he laughed, seeing it was erin, and she was holding a food bag. ❛ oh detective lindsay. you did not have to do that. come on in! ❜

erin wasn't convinced by the nurses answer. call it detective's intuition, call it just being a good friend, there was something brewing beneath the surface. it wasn't just elyse though, it was all of them. the city had been going through more than a rough patch when it came to first responders, and every single one of them had seen the repercussions first hand. they were all feeling the burden of trying to the right thing. "you're telling me. feels like there's something in the water at the moment, doesn't it?" heavy sigh comes from the brunette, as arms folded gently across her chest. "you're holding up okay though, aren't you?" caring expression danced across her face, concern evident in the question put to the nurse.
she loved being a nurse, so much. she loved being one of the people that can help make a patients day better. from just doing their job. a lot of times they were lucky, others, not so much. then events like these happen. where it felt like everything was happening at once, shootings, car accidents . . . then a stampede at a pop stars concert. not taylor swift, thankfully. she would have been there come hell or high water. it has been days of this craziness. it felt like chicago had lost their minds. or a full moon was out, she honestly didn't know what to think. on top of that, her and tyler got in a huge fight about . . . she doesn't even know. but still, she gives erin a small, forced smile, taking a deep breath. yet, she nodded. ❛ yeah, i am alright. just tired. of everything. its been a rough few days personally and professionally. ❜
