Okay, I feel like the odds of Martha formally working for Garden have gone up a bit this chapter
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Given the context of this discussion, I think it's also possible she owned a dress to kill to at some point, and that that may be part of the reason she's laughing. I also think it's possible that she's laughing because she either currently is secretly seeing someone or because she used to date Henderson and isn't about to tell Becky that because she'd never hear the end of it. I also wouldn't rule out the possibility of her having a "roommate," but I think it's more likely that she used to date Henderson. Also, I do think there's a decent chance that Martha and Henderson attended Eden together and were sweethearts back in the day.
The main thing that is keeping me from fully embracing the idea thar she was in Garden in the past is the fact that she's seen Yor with her earrings that seem to be Garden symbol, but we haven't been given any reason to believe that she knows that Yor is part of Garden.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's also possible that Yor's earrings aren't actually a Garden symbol or that the symbols have changed since Martha was an active member. Another possibility is that Martha does know she's part of Garden, but she figured that out while Anya was asleep and doesn't really think about much. Martha is comfortable leaving Becky alone with the Forgers, so if she knows that Yor is a part of Garden and assumes that Loid us too, that may explain why she's comfortable doing that. Although it's possible that she just picked up on them being able to protect Becky from her training from something like the military.

Okay this made me suspicious
Tumblr media
What if the reason for Yor's terrible inedible cooking skills isn't just that she was a kid when she lost her parents and didn't know how to cook, but maybe she sometimes saw the food she was given in Garden in order to build up her poison tolerance without alarming kid Yor about it directly? Like they wouldn't tell her what was really in it to not scare her off but they would sneak in little bits of poison into her food and feed it to her.

Ok so I have been stewing this crossover au in my brain nonstop for the past few days and. I am nothing if not committed to the bit, so. Volume cover redraws :)
Here are the originals:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you want to read more about my one piece spy x family crossover, keep reading!
So the idea is simple! Crossover reincarnation au where ASL is reborn in Spy x Family. They’re each born separately and none of them are born with the same names as their previous lives, and with no way of finding each other, they each find their own thing to do in the world.
Sabo, too used to the dangers of being a spy, eventually finds a cause to devote himself to again, in preventing war from engulfing the country he was reborn in. Ace, drawn to fire as he was in his previous life, used arson as a means to rob rich people for sustenance and survival, and is eventually scouted and hired by Garden as a fire specialist and assassin. And Luffy, though born in perhaps the poorest condition, grows up happily and takes whatever part time jobs he wants to do.
The thing about Sabo is that, as much as he seems like a young man of good repute and high standing within society, everyone in WISE knows that he is a massive nuisance. Nobody knew in the beginning how a child less than half the age of most of their veteran agents could have the same skills and knowledge in their profession. Sabo was— and still is— hyper competent, and by the time WISE figured out just how much of a menace to society he was, it was too late.
Ace forgot for the first few years of his new life that he wasn’t made of fire, and consequently, received multiple accidental burns. This did not deter him, however, from growing up to be a very skilled arsonist, well-practiced in every which way to start a dumpster fire or house fire. As a teenage he would use this often to draw attention as he robbed rich people blind. When he was caught, he was given an ultimatum by Garden: join them and receive payment for starting fires and causing problems under contract, or face the government and authorities for his crimes. Begrudgingly, he joined Garden, but eventually comes to appreciate that he can make substantial money in his element.
Luffy is Luffy. No telepathy or experimentation, no fancy schools, no gimmicks or secret identities. But he has still lived an extremely colorful life in this world, full of fascinating and kind individuals who have helped him grow up healthy and relatively happy. He goes where he is free, and he takes whatever part time jobs he wants in order to make the minimum he needs to survive.
Ace and Sabo find each other first, in their late teens, and neither of them realize that the other remembers their previous life, but both refuse to separate. (Sabo thinks Ace doesn’t remember, because Ace didn’t recognize him. Ace never saw Sabo grow up past 10, however, so he doesn’t recognize older Sabo immediately. By the time he does realize who exactly Sabo is, Sabo has backtracked and pretends to know Ace from a dream, or from somewhere else.)
Sabo’s attachment to Ace, predictably, causes problems between Sabo and WISE, but by then, Sabo is indispensable to the organization, and they make an exception for Sabo to be able to remain with Ace, so long as Ace never finds out what Sabo’s actual job is. Ace, on the other hand, hides his job because he doesn’t want his brother, who he has just found and who does not know Ace well enough yet, to know that he makes a living from killing people.
And they find Luffy sometime afterwards, prior to the beginning of the Spy x Family canon. Luffy figures out, not long after moving in with his brothers, both of his brothers’ secret occupations and the fact that both of them remember their past memories. He thinks it is common knowledge, however, and so he never brings it up.

About Yor: she isn’t dense, but most likely indoctrinated by Garden
So I wanted to address this for a long while now, because I’ve seen one too many posts talking about Yor like she’s just an aloof assassin who doesn’t care about things outside her direct environment, which is why sometimes she says dense things.
I’m well aware that she’s a fan favorite so people don’t mean her harm, yet I think the whole story actually hints at way more than her being dense, especially considering her background and who she still works for.
In other words, since Yor was trained but also half raised by Garden’s leader, the Shopkeeper, it’s likely that, considering how they operate and what they’re about, they instilled in her a conditioned dependency since childhood or teenage years that would make her unable to learn things on her own without asking for their opinion, making it very hard for her to turn against them ever.
Want a striking example? Her encounter with Melinda Desmond.
Tumblr media
Not only did she not know who Melinda was (but I mean, that at least could be understandable)...
Tumblr media
...but she also didn’t know what a First Lady is.
Sure, it’s funny on first glance, but after thinking about it, what does it betray? That Garden probably made sure over years Yor would never get the slightest basic info and understanding on what politics of this country are all about. Because if their strong soldiers start to get opinions of their own, then they could start disagreeing with Garden and turning on them. So, “let’s prohibit people having free thinking, so that they can remain good little pawns” as we “fight for peace in our country”.
In fact, for Yor, until a short time ago (when she met Loid and Anya), all she did was thought and decided for her by Garden and, to this day, she still voluntarily asks them for their agreement when she opens up her close circle little by little: she asked them if it was okay to marry Loid and then she asked them if it was okay to befriend Melinda.
Tumblr media
To be honest, that’s a scary ass thought process to envision, when Yor’s an independent working lady well into her 20s, but this shows how deep Garden’s indoctrination runs in Yor, since they got hold of her as a child/young teen.
Another striking example is the way she always describes her job, in an almost childish way. Her nickname “thorn princess” aside, I always found it interesting that Yor’s aware she’s an assassin but she isn’t morally anguished at all about killing people and never mentions or distinguishes any grey area in her missions. In fact...
Tumblr media
... it’s all in black and white and she clearly thinks that the people she kills are all evildoers (which as we saw in the recent arc with the Red Circus isn’t always the case and begs the rhetorical question “why does Garden get to decide who’s evil?”), therefore “she’s not doing anything wrong”, which also pretty much betrays how she was pushed into it.
Long ago, Garden probably baited Yor with Yuri’s protection and told her that, since they’re “about peace”, Yor’s work would just help them to “fight against evil”. As a child, she wasn’t mentally fit to understand the deeper implications and then she was mentally conditioned to always do and think like Garden tells her to, which promotes this systematic childish description of her assassin’s job.
Finally, please take notice of the Shopkeeper’s reaction the first time she tries to argue about her work, in the ship arc:
Tumblr media
Enough said, Garden’s awful. I’m sure there are more examples throughout the story, but I now want to talk about future character development.
After all, since the story obviously calls for Yor to ditch Garden, to protect what’s actually important to her (Yuri, Loid and Anya), we actually do see her changing little by little so far, thanks to her living with Loid and Anya. Her coworkers quickly mentioned that she’s more lively ever since she got married and the ship arc overall emphasizes that her family is starting to become more important to her than her job, so there is high hope for Yor. :D
Additionally, while she’s still far away from noticing that Garden mentally drove her into a corner, she now openly voices her concerns that “she’s not normal” but that she wants to understand why in order to learn how to change.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
To be fair, fighting against indoctrination is tough and takes time so I’m very proud of her for slowly realizing that she ought to decide for herself from now on. :D
TL;DR Yor is not dense. She was indoctrinated as a child by Garden and can only (for now) see the world through the filters they taught her.
Ironically enough, the only character who knows about her real job and could, thus, notice that Yor isn’t being critical about Garden...... actually can’t because she’s a four year old who is too young to understand that Mama’s job is wrong. Well done, Endo-sensei!

Broke: "Twilight's father's eyes were hidden because he doesn't remember his face/doesn't want to."
Woke: "His father's eyes weren't shown because he's actually the Shopkeeper."
Tumblr media
Call it a crack theory (someone else actually explained it quite well on this post) but I believe it enough to spend 5 hours on that drawing. Man just tanned a lot from all the gardening.

Okay, walk with me here: so McMahon has a ring on his finger, meaning he COULD be married and to whom, we don’t know. That being said, this opens up the potential that later on in the story, there could be a chapter where he and his spouse(?) could go on a double date with Loid and Yor, wherein someone from Garden outside of Yor comes face to face with Twilight.
Tumblr media
Shopkeeper, already suspicious of Loid after Yor tells him about Loid’s interest in the Desmond party, tells McMahon to keep an eye on Loid and pseudo-interrogates him about his political interests. Loid gives a safe answer, but still prompts McMahon to look more into who Loid Forger is; somehow leading him to figuring out his true identity as Twilight.

I think Loid being jealous to a random guy talking to Yor is unlikely to happen bc yor literally announces to every guy that talks (and tried to touch) her that she's married lol, she's not even giving them an opening or a chance to flirt with her.
If jealousy were to happen, i think it'd be with someone that Yor is familiar and comfortable with, someone she doesn't mind having physical contact that would make Loid question what's her relationship with that guy and why they're so close.

I didn’t expect the trailer to provide me content to feed my Garden obsession but i am gonna take the blessings that it is.
Look at them! My babies:
Tumblr media
Very different from what we saw in manga:
Tumblr media
Granted the manga was written 2 years ago, seems like Endo Sensei had time to flesh out the organisation and the characters a bit more for Anime.
Tumblr media
I assumed that the figure covered by the speech bubbles was Yor, the Anime version looks different with the addition of high ponytail. But the figure still has that hair fringe at the side which is very reminiscent of Yor. (Maybe it’s Yor in her teen years?, it must have been a while since they all assembled for the group picture 😂)
What caught my attention with the image was this, doesn’t she look similar?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I had my suspicions because of the way she “I am not your Damn sister”, there is this familiarity associated with the term that suggest she and Yor know each other personally.
Tumblr media
Also Chloe is a feminine name of Greek origin, meaning "blooming" or "fertility." It goes well with the Garden theme I think.
I think we might get a Garden arc soon, if anime and manga features Garden arc at the same time I might just pass out from excitement!

S2 | There are many things I'm looking forward to in season 2, but one small thing is finding out if the WISE rookie
Tumblr media
And the Garden doorman
Tumblr media
Still look similar once the doorman makes his anime debut. I've seen it speculated that these two looking similar is just a coincidence and the anime is an opportunity to make these two either look more or less alike. However, these two looking similar to each other could also be intentional which does have some interesting implications if you ask me.
Edit: they gave the doorman black hair in the anime, I'll have to update with a screenshot sometime

I love that Millie finally had her chapter, giving her more depth and backstory and it's nice that it allowed Yor to corroborate with her own childhood : every adult has scars from their childhood and they all more or less learnt to cope with them as they grew up, so it's useless to attempt a comparison about "who suffered more".
I'm also very thankful for more lore, namely on the Desmond couple : Donovan became Prime Minister only after the war started, so even if he's still sketchy as Hell, despite not being PM anymore, there might be more to what WISE intends on finding about "his" plans (it makes you think of how Garden fits into all of this, to be honest).
This chapter also gave us another look at Melinda's character. Last time we saw her was when she brought Damian home after the bus hijacking and her reaction was... complicated to understand, to say the least. Now though :
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This chapter shows us a different side to her, a woman with many enemies because of who her husband is, having to juggle between what people think of her, as the former first lady, and her own convictions.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"she really seemed nothing like her husband"
I also think her friendship with Yor is genuine, for the moment at least: maybe Yor's "naivety" is refreshing compared to what Melinda's used to (ranging between people hating or sucking up to her) and that she's thankful for Anya befriending Damian (from ch88) ?
Tumblr media
In any case, I really enjoy learning more about the Desmonds from her character and, mostly, through Yor's point of view.
Unlike Twilight, Yor's got not beef with the Desmonds and that makes her the most appropriate lens through which discovering whatever WISE is after (because don't forget WISE has its own agenda, being on Westalis' side and all).
Cool chapter !
