dear boy,
part 1 of a college! au — yoonkook are neighbors.
Tumblr media
summary: “some things are better said.”
jeon jungkook doesn’t expect to recieve a letter from the mailman.
his monthly subscription to sportsdaily? yes. a bunch of catalogues for things he never looks at? that too. maybe even a care package from his family back in busan. but a letter? from his grouchy neighbor who couldn’t just have slipped the letter under his door, but had to go the extra mile to mail it? turns out really, really petty people still existed in the world.
he flips the envelope over and over again, noticing the pristine state of the white envelope and his neighbor’s crisp handwriting — ‘dear boy,’. jungkook is miffed. he’s not a boy. he’s 21, a young adult. who does his neighbor think he is? besides, what had her ever done to his neighbor anyway? it wasn’t as if they ever interacted. he glared at the envelope, before finally ripping it open.
_you are too loud. don’t greet me. _jungkook winces. as irritating as that sounded, it was true. he was a young adult, it was normal for him to game until the wee hours of morning. it wasn’t as if his neighbor had ever complained anyway. everytime jungkook stepped out the hallway, ready to go out and buy a waffle for breakfast, he’d greet his neighbor a hearty ‘good morning’. you know, as respectful people should? if his neighbor didn’t like it, he should have said something.
i get it, you have a beautiful voice. please stop singing in the shower. jungkook blushes. his friends knowing that he sang in the shower was one thing, but a complete rando? who also complimented his singing? really, really awkward. he doesn’t even do it on purpose. singing is just something that came naturally to him, just like how namjoon-hyung slipping into english whenever he got frustrated. he doesn’t even think his own voice is beautiful, unlike his taehyung-hyung whose deep voice he greatly admires. his neighbor has no idea what he’s talking about.
stop inviting your rowdy friends over. hoseok is too loud. jungkook blinks. his neighbor knows hoseok-hyung? was he the reason why hoseok-hyung often slipped out to visit someone in the same apartment building as jungkook whenever the group came over? had hoseok put his neighbor up to this? but then again, his hyung knew almost everyone in the campus. it came with his loud and cheery personality. although hoseok hung out with them the most, he often spoke of the campus rockstar ‘suga-hyung’ with excitement and exasperation. maybe his neighbor was this ‘suga’?
signed, min yoongi. ah, but his name was min yoongi, not suga. disappointment flares in jungkook. it would have been amazing to discover that his neighbor was the famed suga. surprisingly, jungkook doesn’t feel irritated or annoyed by his neighbor’s letter. a guilt washes over him, pity, he soon realizes.
jungkook thinks it’s time to officially meet his neighbor once and for all.
——
min yoongi does not like waking up early in the morning. especially when he his alarm clock hasn’t blare, or when he hasn’t had his morning coffee, or both. this person, whoever the hell he is, sure didn’t know him at all. or maybe they did, and this person was a brazen, loud, incredibly bold individual without a care for personal space, more specifically —
“okay, what do you want, hoseok?” yoongi says as he abruptly opens the door, ready to reprimand hoseok for disturbing at such an early time. but,
the jeon kid from next door? he expected hoseok, sure, or maybe his cousin, taehyung, but the jeon kid? totally unexpected. what ever could he need?
jeon boy turns a bit pale, looking as if he’s regretting his descision to knock on yoongi’s door. yoongi couldn’t look that mean, could he? i mean, taehyung says he looked like a scary grump most of the time, but he’s never actually ever been feared. was this one of hoseok’s pranks? or, one of taehyung’s schemes to make him friendlier or whatever?
“look, if hoseok made you do this, then —“
“no!” the boy says so quickly and harshly that yoongi takes a step back, apalled. realizing his mistake, jeon boy flushes a dark cherry red. he bows suddenly. “uh, i’m jeon jungkook. hoseok-hyung didn’t make me do this.”
o...kay? he is a bit flustered. no one has ever bowed to him. yoongi raises a hand for jungkook to shake, “i’m min yoongi.”
jungkook shakes the older boy’s hand with a bright smile on his face. soon as the gesture finishes, they are at loss for words. yoongi, most especially. would it be time to be a respectable host and invite his neighbor in? or should he be wary of strangers? then again, jungkook wasn’t exactly a stranger. they’d unofficially known each other for three months now. so....
“umm, i’m sorry if i greet you. i won’t do it again.” jungkook says quickly. “and, uh, thanks for the compliment. no one has ever said i have a nice voice before. but, i like my hyungs, and i will invite them again. sorry ‘bout that.” he hands yoongi the letter.
and with that, jungkook spins off, a little red in the face. yoongi is left, a bit confused. when the hell did he knows about yoongi’s complaints? even though he wrote a supposed ‘letter’ to confront these issues, he had no plans of ever letting his neighbor know. how did jungkook get his hands on that letter anyway? it was just in his desk drawer... where hoseok had been rifling around for a pair of footsocks a fortnight ago.
dammit, hoseok. he’s sure to get it later.

About team russia Khorkina said some words after seen it herself in Montreal :D also Sveta doubt that Aliya can comeback after having baby, on level of wining medals :/ www(.)sportsdaily(.)ru/articles/olimpijskaya-chempionka-svetlana-xorkina-zhelayu-mustafinoj-vernutsya-za-medalyami
Khorkina is overall pleased with the results the Russian team achieved at Worlds. She praised Belyavskiy and Eremina for their AA performances, and says she proud of Paseka for becoming two time World Champion. She went to Worlds to assess the state of the current young gymnasts and she was pleased with what she saw, despite acknowledging everyone needs to upgrade.
Sveta thinks there are great athletes in the Belgian and German teams, and was also surprised by the Japanese team, who are obviously preparing for the Olympics held in their country.
She congratulates Morgan on her AA win, but thinks the Russian girls need to prepare, to become better, in order for them to win next time.
She says she knows Aliya is back at the Round Lake, and if she came back, she must fight for medals. Asked if Aliya can come back after having a child, Sveta says she had a child at 26, and did not return, because back then, the rules did not allow gymnasts to work on one event alone. She was a great all around gymnast. However, she says coming back after childbirth is not that uncommon, and gives Chuso as an example. She hopes Aliya can combine family life with a high level sports career.
Asked how the Russians were welcomed in Montreal, she says everything was fine, and she saw nothing negative.
She is asked how did the fans react to seeing her in Montreal, and, of course, she says everyone was excited, even current gymnasts or girls competing in the 80s, like Daniela Silivas lmao.
She hasn’t considered releasing her book in English, but now she’ll consider it.

Nezt Game Lakers vs Wizards Wednesday @7:30 pm pt #Lakers #LakersChapo #LakersChapo2 #LonzoBall @zo #lavarball @lavar #Wizards #JohnWall 🔷️From October 22 The SportsDaily John Wall warns Lonzo Ball about being targeted by other players It took only one game for Lakers rookie guard Lonzo Ball to get called out by another NBA player. Ball, playing in his first career NBA game, got shut down by Patrick Beverley on Thursday, who held him to just three points on a one-of-six shooting performance. Beverley had plenty to say about Ball after shutting him down, and that’s probably not how the Lakers guard had hoped his first career NBA game would turn out. As far as the next few games for the Lakers, an entertaining matchup with the Wizards is set for Wednesday. It will be fun to watch Ball and John Wall go at it on the court, and we can expect the veteran to provide the rookie with some teachable moments. Wall was recently asked about why Beverley went off about Ball after the two matched up on the court, and he speculated that his father, LaVar, has put Lonzo in a tough situation. Wall believes other NBA players will continue to target the Lakers rookie guard. “I think his dad put him in a situation where guys are going to target him,” Wall said on the Wizards Tipoff podcast, as transcribed by NBC Sports Washington. “Lonzo is one of those kids that is very talented. He’s been a good player for years, he just don’t say much. I think his dad does all the talking for him.” He does make a good point, but we don’t envision LaVar Ball quieting down anytime soon. Wall also went on to provide some good advice for Lonzo going forward.

Sports media follows for 2017...what do you recommend?
I’m writing this mostly for my Introduction to Sports Reporting and Writing course with Grady Sports colleague and AJC reporter D. Orlando Ledbetter, but also for general interest. Please send along any must-read blogs, podcasts, emails, and other resources that sports media people ought to be following.
I tend to keep closer track of issues in college sports (my main research interest) and in social media in sports, just because that’s where so much of the action is.
First, I highly recommend using Tweetdeck to create columns for following Twitter lists and hashtags. I have a sports media list and also highly recommend following the #smsports hashtag.
Richard Deitsch’s Media Circus and Sports Media Podcast for Sports Illustrated
Awful Announcing
Slate’s Hang Up and Listen podcast
The Hashtag Sports #SportsDaily email (scroll down for the signup)
Jessica Smith’s blog
Don Van Natta’s Sunday Long Read (not exclusively or even typically sports, but still worth a weekly visit)
Pro tip: When I see a story I want to hang onto for future research, I save it in Evernote. If it’s something I want to read this week during a meal or before I go to bed, I’m a big fan of the Pocket app.
If you have any additions, please send them along!
