We all know that Tails is Sonic’s biggest fan by far (Amy is a close second). But a lot of people don’t talk about how Sonic is Tails number one fan.
Sonic legit thinks Tails is just the coolest person he’s ever met and it show’s when ever he talks about what Tails has accomplished and just when he talks about Tails in general. I mean to him Tails can do so many amazing things, he is super smart, one of (probably to him) the nicest person he knows, and is just his best friend and little brother.
He always defaults to Tails when ever they are in most situations and just thinks Tails will always have, or eventually come up with, a plan. Sonic thinks his inventions are awesome, loves to adventure with him and just hang out with Tails.
I think this too is why there always seems to be a disconnect between what he thinks of Tails and what Tails thinks of himself. Sonic knows Tails has self esteem issues and he does his best to encourage him and mitigate those thoughts when Tails tells him he’s having them. But Sonic is just so proud of Tails and just thinks Tails is literally the most amazing person he knows, so he legitimately just can’t fathom why Tails does not see what he sees.
And while I think it is sweet, it does put a little block in their relationship because all Tails sees is what he’s not compared to Sonic. While all Sonic sees is this amazing kid he was lucky enough to meet and grow as close as a brother to.
(Frontiers spoilers) Which is why I think Tails traveling on his own for a bit like he said he would in Frontiers is a good thing. Now I don’t think Tails should just go off without telling anyone where he is (he is still 8 and I’m too old to see that childhood whimsy of kids on an adventure with no adult supervision as a good thing). But I do like the idea of him going off on his own with regular check-ins with his freinds (mostly Sonic) to keep them posted on where he is. And just him having that space to gain that confidence and build that self esteem up without Sonic right there to compare himself to.
Also side thought, I think most of Tails and Sonic friends also think Tails is amazing and cool, but I think most of them see Tails as an awesome/amazing ‘little kid’. While Sonic sees him as his little brother basically, he still sees Tails as his best friend and partner in crime who is very capable (but he still has older brother privileges of putting Tails safety first).
I do think in the idw comics though one of their friends did start to see Tails like Sonic does. And that’s Tangle. (spoilers for idw issue 31)
Just right here at first she’s checking up on him cause Sonic’s gone and her (and everyone else) are probably worried about Tails. Especially after what happened during Forces where Tails “lost it.” But then Tails is just so upbeat, positive and determined, Tangle finally sees what Sonic sees in Tails.
All I’m saying is that Sonic and Tangle are President and Vice President of the Tails fan club cause they both think he’s just one of the coolest people they’ve ever met. Can I get Sonic and Tangle bonding over how amazing Tails is and embarrassing him please. Plus I like to think Tangle has dubbed herself as Tails backup older sister since they’re tail buddies and she thinks he’s just awesome.

Sonic Forces AU in which whenever Infinite tries to spawn a Shadow illusion it only loads Mephiles which don’t speak at only stare. Ultimate lifeform still gets framed because of it. Said illusion also appears in the background of Silver and Infinite’s fight, tracking the timetraveller with its gaze.
The game never specifies whether it’s the real Mephiles or a copy.

Late game Sonic Frontiers spoilers.
People seethed with rage in response to Sonic saying "it's been Generations since I've seen you" in Forces but in Frontiers the writers keep forcing the characters to constantly spout references to past games like jingling keys in front of a baby and man if everyone isn't going goo goo gaga for that pandering bullcrap.
Same with the tone. Everyone is all like "it's SO nice that Sonic is finally taking itself seriously again!" as if Forces wasn't about a small resistance fighting back against a tyrant that conquered 99% of the planet, with everyone having almost lost hope because they thought Sonic was literally dead. Yeah the dialog was stiff as hell but you can't argue that Knuckles didn't whole-ass that stupid line about war.
Speaking of stiff as hell lines: A large chunk of the lines in Frontiers. Literally the first lines out of the main characters' mouths are so unnatural and lifeless, and that's without the voice direction telling the VAs to act like it's 3AM and their parents are trying to sleep. Then Sonic loses his friends in a portal and he's like, "oh well, time to try and rescue them I guess."
I don't know. While Frontiers' gameplay and plot structure overall feel much more refined than Forces', almost everything else feels majorly the same in quality to me. Frontiers is better, but half of the cutscenes feel like the writers' desperate attempt to tell players that they're trying to course correct. Like, they straight up had Tails talking about his inconsistent bravery like it was a character flaw he needs to work on, rather than a writing error that could've been fixed by just... deciding to stop making Tails a coward.
Still, despite acknowledging past errors, it seems they can't remember that Knuckles is supposed to be guarding the Master Emerald, since they implied he's gonna go off on adventures away from it... for some reason. I haven't finished the final island yet so maybe they'll... idk... have Angel Island suddenly come alive with an ancient defense system powered by the Master Emerald... or... something.
But honestly, if they actually decide to have Sonic's friends split up at the end in a "heartfelt" moment despite them literally just working together to save him with the power of friendship, I might just have to throttle someone.

Who wants to get angsty tonight!!!
So I was thinking about that cut scene in Forces again when Sonic and Tails unite finally and then proceed to NOT REALLY HUG EACH OTHER!!!
So here I am with a headcanon/AU little thought for why that is.
What if while Eggman and Infinite had Sonic trapped they used the Phantom Ruby to make copies of Tails that would rescue Sonic. But it was only after Sonic hugged the Tails copy would things immediately be terrible. Infinite would do this by either showing Tails suddenly being killed or just having all of it suddenly vanish so Sonic sees he never even left his cell and is still all alone.
So that's why Sonic doesn't full on hug Tails again because he's scared if he does then he'll only find out he never left his cell, the whole rescue was another lie and possibly having to watch Tails die again.
Idk I wanted a full on big ol' hug in that scene and at best it's a light shoulder grasp. So I'm personally fixing it by making it sad. Let me know what ya'll think.

Sonic Forces Mobile roundup: Tech Knight Silver teased, Surge the Tenrec leaked
Several character events have been teased and leaked alongside new patch notes for Sonic Forces: Speed Battle. Here's a quick run-through of them all.
Surge the Tenrec leaked
Take a look at the official SEGA HARDlight render of Surge the Tenrec, spotted within the game's files. Not much is known about her runner specifications and release window as of yet, but more is expected to be revealed later on.
Surge will join Whisper the Wolf and Tangle the Lemur as the one the latest IDW Sonic comic characters to appear in official games media.
Tech Knight Silver officially teased, Mummy Knuckles coming soon
SEGA HARDlight posted two teasers for the upcoming slates of character skins in Speed Battle: the "Tech Knight" skin for Silver the Hedgehog, and the "Mummy" Knuckles the Echidna skin.
All of the aforementioned runners were inadvertently teased by name in a spreadsheet leak from the game's developers in late June. Since then, a spokesperson acknowledged that the slate was "subject to change," but did not rule out the release of the mentioned characters, which all came to fruition as planned.
A spokesperson did not acknowledge the leaked renders of Surge and Tech Knight Silver as of press time, due to a policy that prohibits discussion of datamined content.
New in-game events
Speed Battle players can collect Special cards for Sonic the Werehog and Reaper Metal Sonic during the "Graveyard Smash" event. The mission rewards will alternate between each character in the event, scheduled between 24 to 31 October. The event's bonus box will contain 15 cards for each runner.
There is also a new "Brawl Mode" event to earn guaranteed cards for Sonic the Werehog and Reaper Metal Sonic. Scheduled between 24 October to 7 November, players will be placed into teams between the two runners.
To score points in this Team Vs Event you will need to hold the Brawl token, and carry the Brawl token over the finish line. Deal damage to rivals to steal the Brawl token from them, but if you get hit they'll take it back!
The winners of the event will receive 50 cards for their chosen runner, while the runners-up will receive 25 cards.
The new Halloween-themed events followed the launch event for the Classic Super Sonic runner, timed to coincide with the release of Sonic Superstars. Here's the specifications, in case you missed it:
Patch notes
Here's a brief look at the official update notes for version 4.22.0 of Speed Battle. Expect various bug fixes and Tails' Vault improvements.
Balance changes
Reduced damage on 'Sharp Shelter' for Boscage Maze Sonic,
Reduced radius on 'Brutal Barrier' to one lane for Linebacker Omega,
Removed invincibility from 'Twin Tail Boost' for Movie Tails.
Gameplay changes
Added a ray-beam effect on spawn of 'Cyclone Charge' for Longclaw,
Metal Sonic can no longer steal 'Steal'.
