yourusername As many of you know, I spent majority of 2021 and 2022 traveling the world with Mick for formula 1. Because of that, my life was put on hold. While I cherish those days, I lost sight of who I was.
Six months ago, Mick and I amicably decided to take a break. While the decision wasn’t easy, it was what was best for both of us as we both were in transitional points in our lives. During this time, I have traveled the world, for myself, and started to journal what I learned from locals, friends and strangers. Early on into this journey, I realized that my experiences were something that should be shared as I know we all go through times times when we feel lost and unsure of who we are.
‘In Me, I Trust’ is available now and is a collection of my stories, thoughts and advice. I hope you take what you need from it ♡

"The next time I saw Sebastian was on the Thursday of the race weekend in China, and I said we needed to talk. The ensuing conversation was the most disappointing moment of our entire relationship. He said he was pissed off by what I had said on the podium in Malaysia, that while he respected me as a driver he had no respect for me as a person.  That was a heavy line for me. I simply said, ‘Then our relationship is in trouble. That’s it.’ I had clung to the belief that we might sort things out between us but I couldn’t help thinking someone must have got in his ear to cause such an about-face. Christian later insisted it was all of Sebastian’s own doing, his justification being that it was payback for Silverstone 2011 and Brazil 2012. I could have gone back a lot further than that!"

Thirteen years on from a famous British Grand Prix victory at Silverstone, Mark Webber has touched on the uneasiness in the Red Bull camp involving his then rivalry with teammate Sebastian Vettel. The Australian motor racing ace won his first British GP in 2010, but not all went to plan for Red Bull that day as the fancied Vettel suffered a puncture leaving Webb to challenge for honours.
"This was one of the biggest memories of my life," Webb recalled. "There was a lot of tension going into that race because of the contradictions on the equipment I felt I was receiving compared to my Red Bull teammate Sebastian Vettel. "I had a close start with Seb in Turn 1. He then made contact with Lewis (Hamilton), got a puncture - which I was heartbroken about - and after that I was racing Lewis to the flag.
"It was not a regulation victory - you always have to earn them and do the work - but I managed to have a clean day in front of a full house.
"I said to the team over the radio 'not bad for a No.2 driver.' I just thought I would let them know I wasn't a bad driver."
Webber competed in Formula One between 2002 and 2013, winning nine F1 grand prixs and finishing third in the drivers championship in 2010, 2011 and 2013. The 46-year-old from Queanbeyan will appear as an analyst for Channel 4 in their coverage of Sunday's British Grand Prix.
Webber said he loved competing at Silverstone, one of his favourite venues. "I always enjoyed racing there," he said. "The atmosphere of the crowd is incredible and they are bloody knowledgeable. You really feel that as a driver.
"It is a phenomenal circuit and one that should never be taken off the calendar. It is the embodiment of what F1 is all about."
Webber recalled two other great races at the track that captured his imagination - Hamilton's win in 2008 and the Briton's 2021 duel with Max Verstappen. "Bloody hell. What Lewis did that day (2008) was just magical. He tore the field apart. I was on the front row, and spun on the first lap. Everyone made a mistake that day, but Lewis didn't.
"He crossed the line 70 seconds clear of anyone else and lapped the field up to third. It was an exceptional display."
He likened Hamilton's duel with Verstappen as two gladiators marking their territories. "It is what makes our sport so great - two legends taking each other to the wire in front of a full house at a daunting circuit.
"Lewis is probably one of, if not the cleanest drivers I ever raced against, alongside Fernando Alonso. They are both absolutely extraordinary in wheel-to-wheel combat.
"But it was a very optimistic move from Lewis. To this day, I don't know how he did not retire with damage. Everything after that was a bonus and somehow the car stayed together and he got the job done and won."

THE FORMULA 1 TAG GAME! 🏎️
rules. answer the questions below!
tagged by @vinvantae tagging: everyone that wants to do it, just say i tagged you. also, @goldsainz @formulaforza @carlosheinz @chrysanthemonza
Tumblr media
1. Who or what got you into F1?
-> my family! they've been enjoying motorsports for years so naturally, i ended up falling in love too. something about forced proximity lmaoo
2. Who was the very first F1 driver you supported? Do you support them now? Have your opinions on them differed or stayed the same since then?
-> kimi raikkönen!! as a child i would get really excited to see him on tv or on track, my parents said i recognized his car and all. i supported him always, followed his years out of f1 and all, he’s 100% my favorite of all time.
3. Who's your current favourite F1 driver?
-> i have two 2023/24 favorites: lewis hamilton and oscar piastri.
lewis has been a favorite of mine from the beginning, his racecraft has always been enjoyable to me. also, he’s one of the reasons why (alongside nico and schumi) i decided to support mercedes. he’s a big big inspiration for me, all of the things he has done are wonderful so i’ve never doubted him as one of my favorites.
oscar, on the other hand, is ofc a new addition to the ‘fav f1 driver’ list but is one that doesn’t surprise me! i saw him go up categories and loveeed his driving style. i was never a diehard fan but a supporter of his career for sure. when he got to f1 (and seb left) i knew who my new favorite was gonna be! (now i am, in fact, a diehard fan)
4. Is there a driver pairing or pairings you support? What made you attracted to that pairing in the first place?
-> not a pairing but…a boy band…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
they live on my head rent free, the videos (and the lore) were so funny (iconic). BUT, if i had to choose a pair, i would go for kimi and seb!! i had always wanted to see them as teammates bc of how well they got along, when it happened i was the happiest. also nico and lewis were my number ones back in the day and by consequence my biggest heartbreak.
5. Do your parents, siblings or relatives have a favourite team and/or favourite driver(s)?
-> everyone in the family likes something different. some have their special reasons but in general they vary.
dad’s favorites are mclaren, lauda, and senna, my oldest sister’s are mercedes and button, my older brother redbull and alonso, younger sister ferrari and verstappen (don’t even ask), and my mom’s favorites were ferrari, prost, schumacher, and häkkinen. <3
6. Do you have any favourite races? Are there any that stand out to you the most?
-> this is such a hard question but i’ll go for the ones i rewatch the most: united states 2018, canada 2011, suzuka 2005, abu dhabi 2010, turkey 2020, and germany 2019.
7. Do you have a favourite circuit? Can be from the past or from the current calendar.
-> hockenheim, suzuka, sepang, interlagos, istanbul, spa, silverstone. my lovers fr.
8. Have you ever been to an F1 race in real life? Feel free to tell us your experience going to one if you like.
-> i have! i went to my first gp when i was almost one year old, it was france 2003 — nevertheless, the first one i remember going to/experiencing (faintly but i do) is the 2007 brazilian gp!
i’m lucky enough to have gone to multiple over the years and i’m so grateful to my family for it. 2022 and 2023 were the first years i was able to go by myself or with my friends/colleagues to races! (i did go a couple with my family + i go with my brother everywhere but yeah) it’s been amazing!
9. Have you ever met an F1 driver in real life?
-> i’m very lucky to say yes, i have met a couple over the years and it’s been great! from the current grid i’ve met everyone but zhou and hülkenberg!!
10. Do you have a favourite F1 car? If so, what is it?
-> FW14B, MP4/4, W11, F2002, RB19 AAAAAAAHQHEUJW. i believe this question goes more towards the liveries but i love those cars, they were such a wonder and the WAY they were driven. ugh. amazing. i love rewatching their races.
11. Do you have a favourite one win wonder?
-> ok so, i would say george but since he’s still racing i’m not counting it. i’ll go with pastor maldonado. HEAR ME OUT. it was an insane day, i was ten but i still remember how crazy everyone felt there in barcelona, like what just happened. also insane to think about how it was pure pace, like yes he was lucky on saturday but sunday was his. ALSO having kimi on the podium is a huge bonus.
12. Do you have any favourite quotes from the F1 world? This can either be inspirational or hilarious.
-> “we have to remember these days. there is no guarantee they will last forever. enjoy them as long as they last.” — sebastian vettel, 2013.
“that’s for all the kids out there who dream the impossible, you can do it too.” — lewis hamilton, 2020.
“i’ve always believed that you should never, ever give up and you should always keep fighting even when there's only the slightest chance.” — michael schumacher, 2007.
“just leave me alone, i know what to do.” — kimi raikkönen, 2012.
“bwoah” — kimi raikkönen, always.

My Ao3 F1 rpf: I write mostly Seb/Jenson, a little bit of Charles/Max and a tiny wee bit of George/Alex
My personal list of favourite F1 drivers ever because I like to put everything in lists of tens (elevens?) :
1-Juan Manuel Fangio - (1955, 1954) The formula one driver.
2-Max Verstappen - For me he drives as if he caught the Super Star in Mario Kart (Brasil 2016, Spain 2016, Austria 2019, China 2017, 2021, Hungary 2022, 2023)
3-Michael Schumacher - (Japan 2000) he’s just magical
4-Jenson Button - (Canada 2011, Monaco 2009, Brazil 2009) overall the brief history of Brawn GP is so incredible. Update: I just finished watching The Keanu Reeves documentary, omg it’s so good!! update: his book is also very helpful!
5-Sebastian Vettel - (Spa 2012, Brazil 2012, Silverstone 2009) love for winning, love for f1
6-Lewis Hamilton - (Brazil 2008, Silverstone 2020, Portugal 2021, and the way he drives in Catalunya, it's like watching Eric Clapton play the guitar)
7-Mika Häkkinen - (belgium 200) My mum always told me he was so incredible, and a monster of a driver and overall so amazing.
8-Nigel Mansell - (Monaco 1992, Dallas 1984, Barcelona 1991) who else would faint pushing his car to the finish line???
9-Jack Brabham - (underrated engineering legend)
10-James Hunt - (Japan 1976, Monza 1978) I watched Rush when I was 12, okay? And his commentaries in the 90’s were so good.
10.5.5 Charles Leclerc because I’m ✨manifesting✨his home race win 🕯🏎
-
Also— Fun fact for me even if it’s no one’s business: I share my birthday with Ayrton Senna 😌

I’ve supported Seb ever since I started watching Formula One back in 2008, when he was the underdog, labelled as Crash Kid Vettel and got mocked for supporting him on social media!
Never regretted it in all these year! Cried when he won his first Championship in 2010, against all the odds and so proud to see him win in his championship winning years in 2011, 2012 and 2013 - proved all the critics wrong!
Like most of you on here, never stopped believing in him!
Best moment for me was either seeing him at the Milton Keynes Red Bull home race in 2011 (first time I had heard an F1 car in person), I got an autograph from him or the 2018 British GP, where I got to see him win a race in person... to see him on the winning step at Silverstone.
It’s not going to be the same... I don’t know Formula One without Sebastian... but like a lot of you have also said, I’m glad its on his terms and I am so proud of his achievements! I’m also relieved it doesn’t look like he going to go off and hide when he retires.
I’m going to miss seeing him race 😢

#PerfectComb1nation: Pecco Bagnaia is the 2022 MotoGP World Champion!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Italian takes the premier class crown after a tense race in Valencia, becoming the first Ducati rider to win the title for 15 years. Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) is the 2022 MotoGP™ World Champion! The incredible rollercoaster comeback is complete as the Italian came home in the top ten in Valencia to secure the crown, having overcome a deficit of 91 points back before summer break. Bagnaia is the first Ducati rider to take the crown since Casey Stoner in 2007, the first Italian to achieve the feat since Valentino Rossi in 2009, and first Italian on an Italian bike since Giacomo Agostini in 1972. Born in Turin, Bagnaia enjoyed MiniMoto success before going international onto bigger machinery in the then-CEV in 2011 on a 125, learning his craft before moving up to the Moto3™ World Championship for 2013. Joining the VR46 Riders Academy and then moving to SKY VR46 for 2014, the pieces were in motion before a statement season. On Mahindra at Aspar for 2015, he was the lead rider for the squad and only confirmed that in 2016 as he took the bike’s first ever win – and second. The first was at Assen and the second Sepang, earning him a special treat from the team: the chance to try the MotoGP™ bike in the post-season Valencia test. Bagnaia moved up to Moto2™ in 2017 with the new Sky Racing Team VR46 intermediate class effort and was Rookie of the Year, taking several podiums. In 2018 he then hit the ground running and was a contender for the crown from the off, with imperious form and some incredible wins seeing him take the title in Malaysia. Next stop: MotoGP™. Despite showing impressive speed in his first outings in the premier class in testing, it was a difficult rookie year for Bagnaia at Pramac Racing. Still, a fantastic fourth place in at Phillip Island showed plenty signs of promise. 2020 proved a mixed year for the Italian, but he earned an impressive second place in the San Marino GP and a week later at the same track, he was on the verge of a maiden premier class victory until a heartbreaking crash ended his hopes. He never quite got going again in the remaining races that year, but 2021 saw him move to the factory squad and signalled the start of a whole new chapter. Three podiums and a pole in the opening four rounds signalled the Italian as a title contender and, despite a blip in the middle of the season, he was the last remaining challenger to eventual Champion Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP™) – and finished the year as the rider with the momentum. From a debut MotoGP™ win at Aragon after an incredible head-to-head with Marc Marquez to an amazing victory in Misano a week after, Bagnaia had arrived and he signed off the season with a win in Valencia, too. 2022, however, began on the back foot. A crash in Qatar, a tough race in Lombok, two fifths and an eighth signalled an unexpected start to the season, but Jerez saw the number 63 back on top in a race-long chess match with Quartararo. Then came another crash, at Le Mans, and then another win at Mugello as the Italian took the spoils on home turf. But the rollercoaster went down again as bad luck saw him take home a zero in Barcelona and a mistake caused the same at the Sachsenring. Then, Bagnaia was 91 points behind points leader Quartararo, the biggest deficit overcome to date. The best way to stage a comeback is to start winning, and Bagnaia did just that as he took an awesome four victories in a row in Assen, Silverstone, Austria and Misano. In Aragon it was second place one year on from his first win, but it was hundredths in it as he duelled it out against 2023 teammate Enea Bastianini. Again. But the rollercoaster was in motion once more at Motegi as Bagnaia slid out on the very last lap – and from right behind key rival Quartararo, losing some ground hard-gained since summer break. Thailand marked a huge challenge as a rainy race day gave many flashbacks of Lombok, where Quartararo has taken a podium and Bagnaia only one single point, but fortunes were reversed at Buriram as Pecco podiumed and El Diablo failed to score. Then came Australia and a crash for Quartararo as Bagnaia once again got back on the box, before a tense, tense first match point at Sepang. There, it was once again Bagnaia vs Bastianini. All race long the two went toe-to-toe, with all eyes on the duo who will share the factory garage next season. But this time it was the number 63 who kept the nerves under control and the upper hand on track, taking his seventh win of the season to pull out a 23-point lead as Quartararo put in an impressive stand with a podium. And so, #TheDecider had arrived. Two riders, 23 points, and one crown. It was a nervy weekend for Bagnaia at times but once the lights went out, the track lit up with an incredible race to sign off an era of Grand Prix racing. Quartararo was pushing to get to the front and it got heated for a few tense, gloves-off laps between the Frenchman and the Ducatis – and a few more – but as the race went on the result seemed set: Quartararo had to win to retain the crown, and win he would not. Bagnaia, having lost some aero in a tangle with the Frenchman, kept it calm but slipped back in the top ten once that became clear – and crossed the line in ninth to crown himself 2022 MotoGP™ World Champion. Complimenti, Pecco! #GoFree and fiesta!
Tumblr media
#PerfectComb1nation IN STATS Francesco Bagnaia is the first Italian rider to clinch a premier class world title since Valentino Rossi in 2009. Overall, he is the seventh different Italian rider to do so along with Giacomo Agostini (8), Valentino Rossi (7), Umberto Masetti (2), Libero Liberati (1), Marco Lucchinelli (1) and Franco Uncini (1). Bagnaia’s title is the 21st in the premier class for Italy and the 80th overall in Grand Prix racing. Bagnaia became the second Ducati rider to take the premier class world title along with Casey Stoner in 2007. Aged 25 years and 296 days old, Bagnaia is the oldest rider to clinch his maiden MotoGP™ world title since the introduction of the class in 2002. Nicky Hayden in 2006 is next: 25 years and 91 days old.
Tumblr media
Bagnaia is the first Italian rider on an Italian bike to win the premier class title since MotoGP™ Legend Giacomo Agostini in 1972 with MV Agusta. At the 2022 San Marino GP, Bagnaia took a fourth win in four successive GP races, becoming the first ever Ducati rider to do so in any class of GP racing. Since the introduction of MotoGP™ in 2002, Bagnaia became the fourth different rider to take four (or more) wins in four (or more) successive races in the class along with Valentino Rossi, Jorge Lorenzo and Marc Marquez. With 11 premier class wins, all with Ducati, Bagnaia sits in third place on the list of Ducati riders with most wins in the class behind Casey Stoner (23 wins) and Andrea Dovizioso (14). With 20 premier class podiums so far, Bagnaia is the fifth Ducati rider with most podiums in the class, behind Jack Miller (21 podiums). Casey Stoner leads the way with 42 podiums. This season Bagnaia has stood on the MotoGP™ podium more than any other rider (10 times), including seven wins. Only two Ducati riders have scored seven (or more) wins in a single season: Casey Stoner (10 in 2007) and Bagnaia (2022). After the German GP, Bagnaia was sixth in the Championship, 91 points off the leader Fabio Quartararo, meaning this is the best point recovery to take the crown since the introduction of the point scoring system in 1993. Since 2001, there have been only two occasions on which the rider who clinched the title at the end of the year didn’t finish within the top five in the opening race of season: Joan Mir (2020) and Francesco Bagnaia (2022); they both crashed out. Bagnaia also became the first rider to clinch the premier class title despite five DNFs throughout the season. Bagnaia is only the second rider to clinch the premier class world title having previously clinched the Moto2™ title, along with Marc Marquez.

PECCO BAGNAIA How does it feel? "I'm very, very happy because on the day of the worst race of the calendar I've had a special sweet taste When I crossed the finish line and saw my pit board with writing saying I was the World Champion everything was brighter and nicer. My emotion is incredible in this moment. It wasn't easy because after the fight with Fabio I lost a winglet and from that moment everything was a nightmare. I've done lap by lap trying ride defensive lines, but it was very difficult, and it took so long to finish the race. I'm very proud of my team, myself and of what we did because it's incredible." Did you think it was going to be difficult after Germany? "Yeah, like I said one or two races ago, I lost the faith in the championship for one hour after the Sachsenring race but then after that I knew there was still a chance to be World Champion. Sincerely, the work we did this year was incredible. We performed in an incredible way in the second part of the year. We tried to analyze everything, at home also, to see what to improve, why I was crashing and I was making so many mistakes, and from that moment we've just done some incredible. I'm very happy for that because we really deserve this title." Most difficult moment + best moment? "The most difficult was Sachsenring, because I was very competitive like in Le Mans. I was there with a possibility to win the race, but I crashed and in that moment I realised my weak point was that. I was a rider with a lot of ups and downs, with good speed but no consistency. To accept that was not easy. From that moment I recognised I had a problem and I tried to improve myself, also thanks to the people at home that worked with me everything day and helped me a lot. I think I improved myself a lot this season." On Ducati's long wait: "I saw many faces crying, and it was incredible. I was crying too. It was an amazing victory because I was feeling the weight on my shoulders to give back this title to my team, to Ducati, and to Italy. When I spoke to Vale, he said to me yesterday that you have you be proud to have this possibility, not everyone can have the same feeling. It's true that you feel the pressure, you feel anxiety, you feel fear, but you have to be proud of it, be happy to have it, and try to enjoy it. I tried to do it, and today in fact it didn't work but sincerely I'm very happy to think who we have as a mentor and leader.

Daniel Ricciardo celebrates 33rd birthday in typical AUSSIE fashion ahead of British Grand Prix
Daniel Ricciardo celebrates his 33rd birthday like a proud Aussie with a crafted SHOEY cake ahead of British Grand Prix Australian F1 driver Daniel Ricciardo celebrated his 33rd birthday on Friday McLaren presented him with a 'shoey' cake ahead of the British Grand Prix Ricciardo is quietly confident he can snare a podium finish at the Silverstone track after a year where he struggled for form and with his machine By Andrew Prentice For Daily Mail Australia Published: 01:22 BST, 2 July 2022 | Updated: 01:22 BST, 2 July 2022 Daniel Ricciardo has celebrated his 33rd birthday in style, with a shoey cake presented to the F1 star ahead of the British Grand Prix this weekend. McLaren uploaded two images on Twitter, showing the larrikin Aussie loving the cheeky gesture from his team. Ricciardo popularised the victory celebration where he pours champagne or beer into his sweaty boot and then takes a deep swig.   The cake from team officials also featured a honey badger - the animal that is also Ricciardo's nickname - poking its head out. Daniel Ricciardo has celebrated his 33rd birthday in style, with a shoey cake (pictured) presented to the F1 star ahead of the British Grand Prix this weekend Attention now turns to trackside at Silverstone, where the Perth born driver is gunning for a podium finish. Ricciardo posted the ninth fastest time at Friday's practice session but stressed patience is key this weekend from McLaren. 'It was OK,' Ricciardo said when reflecting on his first hit-out on the track. 'In the morning actually, there wasn't much going on, but in the afternoon, I guess it was more fun, we got out there, had a little bit of fun. 'With the hard [tyre] it was looking alright, but then with the soft, I didn't really put the greatest lap in the world together.'  Attention now turns to trackside this weekend at Silverstone, where Perth born Ricciardo is gunning for a podium finish He also acknowledged McLaren are collectively working tirelessly to ensure they will be competitive against the likes of Mercedes and Ferrari. 'I know the team has been trying to dial the car in more, looking to get better,' Ricciardo said. 'For us and my engineering team, it was sim work, trying different set-ups and trying to nail this car.  The McLaren team are collectively working tirelessly to ensure they will be competitive against the likes of Mercedes and Ferrari (pictured, Ricciardo moments before a practice round on Friday at Silverstone 'I think we've got a better understanding of the car - particularly in the last few races, where I've been able to find a bit more of a setup that I am comfortable with. 'It's been good. We know our weaknesses - they're not overnight fixes, but we know the direction to go in.'  Back in 2011, Ricciardo made his Formula 1 debut at Silverstone for HRT.  Just over a decade and 13 races later, he has a podium and nine British GP points' finishes to his name. He loves the high speed circuit - where he finished fifth in 2021 - and is well aware wind can be a significant factor, with drivers hitting top speeds of over 300 km/h. Corners are also notoriously difficult to contend with.  'It's one of those tracks where I feel the circuit represents a Formula One car the best, in terms of downforce and high speed,' Ricciardo said. '(Corners such as) Copse then Maggotts, Becketts, the change of direction, we kind of arrive in eighth, down to seventh, down to sixth. 'In qualifying, I think almost sixth is the lowest gear we'll go through that section. So it's serious speeds and it's a little bit bumpy as well. 'You exit over the kerb, it's cool. We all drive around here with a smile.' What does 51G mean in respect to the Silverstone Crash?
After the crash on Sunday it was revealed that the impact was 51G, but what actually does that mean, well when Verstappen hit the wall at Turn 9, his peak rate of deceleration was reportedly 51 times greater than gravity in a lateral (sideways) direction, which is a deceleration rate of 500.31 m/s^2.
If we assume that his speed into the barrier was 180kph, the corner is usually taken about 285kph on entry but being conservative that speed was lost in the gravel trap (although it’s likely not to be that much.)
We can use v = u + at to calculate how long it took the tyre barrier to stop him as well as the force that pushed him into the wall.
v (final velocity) = 0
u (initial velocity) = 180kph or 50m/s
a (deceleration) = 500.31m/s^2
So working that out the time between hitting the barrier and completely stopping, this rapid deceleration happened in 0.099 seconds, Verstappen felt a weight of 3.6 tonnes pushing him into the barrier for under a tenth of a second.
51G isn’t one of the biggest crashes we’ve seen in recent years; Romain Grosjean’s crash in Bahrain last year was estimated to be 67G, and Robert Kubica had a 75G crash at the Canadian GP in 2007 and walked away, Sergio Perez had a massive 81.6G collision in Monaco 2011, his first year in F1 and had to stay in hospital for a few days and in 1977 David Purley survived an estimated 180G crash which is one of the highest g forces a person has survived.
Obviously it’s a massive collision and not one to be taken lightly, especially when it’s over 10 times the lateral g forces that drivers experience on a challenging track, but it shows how far F1 has come. The thing is with impacts in F1 it’s not necessarily the g force that causes damage but it’s the rapid deceleration of the body.
Overall it just shows how much safer F1 is nowadays if a driver can experience that sort of force and still get out of the car themselves.

Would genuinely love a breakdown of the multi 21 materials you have offered your friend!!! I'm also a newish fan and missed out on all this good shit from back in the day 🙌
first of all i'm so sorry for the wait but i finally found the time to write this all down and apparently i had a lot to write about kskdk also there probably might be people who know a lot more about multi 21 and everything that comes with it but i think my little breakdown could also be useful. oh and also if you want to know more about f1 history or some interesting topics about f1 you should definitely check out @mclarenp1 and their f1 essays, they have a masterlist so you can find all the essays easily! the essays are really interesting and give a good insight into some f1 stuff.
also, this might be a little biased since i'm a seb fan so i apologise for that. and i apologise for my english, it's not my first language. anyway, enjoy! :)
to begin with here's a video from the official f1 yt channel that touches on the events of multi 21, it doesn't go into details but it's objective unlike some other videos out there.
incident took place at malaysia 2013 gp. here's short run through of what happened. seb started from pole but mark took the lead at the beginning of the race. seb was instructed by rbr to hold his position and stay behind mark by coming onto radio and saying the infamous words 'multi 21' so that the team could have safe 1 and 2 finish. seb disobeyed the orders and attacked mark and took the lead from mark which resulted in him eventually winning the race. to say the tensions after the race were high is honestly understatement. mark was disappointed and furious and literally everyone was hating on seb and found his move unsporting and disrespectful.
i want to start this breakdown by explaining what exactly multi 21 is.
multi 21 basically means that mark's car number 2 stays in front of seb's car number 1. it's also known as multi 12 or car number 1 stays in front of car number 2. it was used before in the races but people never really gave it much attention. actually, everyone assumed it was some kind of engine setting on the steering wheel but only after malaysia 2013 and mark's reaction in the cooldown room people realized it's in fact a coded message. of course, teams could have just directly instructed drivers to hold their position but they probably didn't want to have it broadcasted so they used this instead.
some say seb disobeying orders was a payback for what happened in brazil in 2012 (x) but others say this all first started in turkey in 2010 and i'm here to briefly explain to you what happened in those races and also in silverstone 2011.
in turkey 2010 seb caused a crash with mark but the team sided with seb. that was not a surprise at all since seb was favoured by rbr.
next we have silverstone 2011. rbr was running safely in second and third so they instructed mark who was in third to hold the position. just like seb in 2013, mark disobeyed the orders but the difference is mark didn't manage to pull it off and pass seb so he stayed behind him.
then brazil 2012 happened. it was a championship deciding race between seb and alonso. mark was out of the running just like massa, alonso's teammate at the time. massa helped alonso during the race while mark didn't do much to help seb. in fact he even compromised seb's start, disobeying orders and squeezing seb. (x)
another difference between silverstone 2011 and malaysia 2013 was that at silverstone the 'only' problem the team could've had if multi 21/multi 12 was ignored was that drivers could've taken each other out or by pushing the cars to their limits could cause them to fall apart.
at malaysia 2013 the huge problem was the tyre life. there was an agreement before the race whoever was in front after the final pit stop would remain in front. both drivers would then turn down their engines and the driver ahead would possibly take the victory.
apparently mark did turn down his engine and seb didn't so he eventually overtook mark and won the race. there were also talks mark turned his engine back up but didn't manage to defend from seb. (x)
also, seb was on the strategy that had him faster tyres in the end.
there was also one other detail about this race that is quite interesting. seb was told to stay behind mark earlier in the race but he could fight for the win later on. so seb was actually promised that he could race mark but was denied when told to hold the position.
it isn't really strange that the incident was made a bigger deal than it is since seb was hated on a lot back then. people despised the fact that seb won so many races and made a battle for the lead boring. he was also percieved as a cocky little bastard while mark was seen as an underdog and second driver who deserved better. but the thing is mark was not that innocent himself, he painted seb a villain every opportunity he got and that was actually the only way he could throw seb off his game since he couldn't really do that on the track. seb was also playing mind games there of course, but he also had the result to back it all up and was a three time world champion then.
the story of multi 21 was always kinda presented only from mark's side in the media, especially since he released the book and his pr team really did everything to sell the book so they kept spinning the seb hatered in the media.
there were also number of interesting interviews that happened after this race.
mark was obviously mad and fuming and seb was feeling sorry and stated that he made the mistake in his post race interviews.
but at the next race when they asked seb again about the incident he said the iconic "i was faster, i passed him, i won" (x) line which made it clear that he stuck by his decision of disobeying the order and passing mark.
fun thing here is, after race in silverstone mark said that any driver should ignore team order like that, alluding that he indeed was fine with disobeying team's instructions but apparently only when it suited him. (x)
but tbh maybe rbr itself and their poor management was to blame here for everything. they created poor relationship between them, mark and seb. they clearly had seb as their favourite and he was getting the priority at mark's expenses.
also, there was no need to not let them race in malaysia, yes there were risks, but it was early in the season and the championship was still open to everyone. seb eventually proved in that race and during the season that he was the faster driver, he was also young and motivated and had won three consecutive titles previously. rbr could've assumed that seb was too determined and devoted not to race his teammate there.
anyway i think this is mostly it, i didn't really bother to find all the articles i was referring to here but maybe i'll do that later and add all the remaining links. hope this was good enough for you anon :)

Tumblr media
2015

«I’d far rather be happy than right any day.»
Hitchiker’s Guide To The Galaxy
Thought I’d do a some sort of introductory post, for the sake of it - let you know who you’re dealing with :D
About me:
✿ name: Anastasia (Ana, Stasia, Nastia, single-n anna)
✿ age: i’m 20,5 (August 17th, 1999)
✿ relationship status: chronically single af
✿ nationality: Russian
✿ languages: Russian, English, conversational Italian; also attempting to grasp Dutch
✿ an International Baccalaureate survivor (IB was a bitch but i’m glad i did it! My subjects were Art, Geography, Biology (High Level) and Math, English and Italian ab initio (Standard Level))
✿ i’m in my final year of studying towards Bachelor of Arts in Geography in London, but looking to do a Masters course in Public Administration or Urban Development in the Netherlands
✿ Hogwarts House: Ravenclaw
✿ favourite colours: navy, lavender, sky blue, burgundy, turquoise
✿ favourite food/dishes: any pasta, avocado & fennel salad, brownies, grapefruit juice, sweet&salty popcorn, stracciatella ice cream
✿ 3 random facts: i’m left-handed (used to be ambidextrous); i attended the same school as Christopher Nolan; i once worked a catering event at McLaren Technology Centre and served Lando Norris (current McLaren F1 driver) because he sat at one of the tables assigned to me
My Interests:
✿ Books: sci-fi, detective novels, historic novels, adventure fiction, biographies
✿ Music: Linkin Park, Imagine Dragons, Mike Shinoda, Nina Nesbitt, Lewis Capaldi, Little Big, Oxxxymiron, Eminem, Harry Styles, Ed Sheeran, The Kooks, Rag’n’Bone Man, One Direction, various film/play soundtracks (but all in all my playlist is a m e s s, i’m more of a ‘random songs i like’ listener than a ‘single creator i support’ listener)
✿ Travel: I absolutely love visiting new places and discovering cultures and traditions of different countries! My ultimate dream is to visit every country before I pass away (32/197 for now)
✿ TV shows: Merlin, One Day At A Time, Sherlock, Queer Eye, The Dragon Prince, A Series of Unfortunate Events, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Star Trek, Disenchantment, Dark Tourist, Formula 1: Drive To Survive, F.R.I.E.N.D.S, Lewis, Castle, Marvellous Mrs. Maisel, 2 Broke Girls, Modern Love, Bones
✿ Dark Tourism: yes it deserves a whole another section. Basically I’m fascinated with and attracted to abandoned and eery places that have deep and sometimes dark history (easiest examples would be Auschwitz, Chernobyl, Suicide Forest in Japan etc), because I think it’s those places that carry the most meaning and should be treasured by humanity. I’d love to be able to travel to as many of such locations at some point in life (hence why the whole Dark Tourist show is like my Holy Grail lol). I’m also writing my Bachelors dissertation about The Troubles in Northern Ireland and the significance of dark tourism in our perception of history and the accuracy of its narrative
✿ Formula 1: (again - deserves its own section)
When did I start watching? I recall seeing my mum watch races since maybe 2011, but myself I really got into the sport circa summer 2017, first GP I clearly remember watching was Silverstone that year
Who in my family watches, besides me? my mum was the one that got me into it, dad also used to follow the sport but not anymore
Favourite driver(s): Daniel Ricciardo, Lando Norris, Sebastian Vettel, Charles Leclerc, Daniil Kvyat, Kimi Raikkonen, Esteban Ocon, Alex Albon (+ from F2: Robern Schwartzman, Callum Illott, Marcus Armstrong, Jack Aitken, Mick Schumacher)
Favourite team(s): McLaren
Attended any GPs? Silverstone 2019, my first and only so far
What kind of content I may be expected to post?
✿ incorrect quotes
✿ fanfiction & drabbles (I do have an AO3 and I hope to be able to write more fics once I’m done with my dissertation in mid-June)
✿ maybe occasional art, if I decide to say ‘fuck it’ and order a new apple pencil (I also have some old goodies stored that I may share at some point, they are mainly F1 though)
✿ shitposting. A LOT of shitposting
✿ poor attempts at memes
(in other words - nothing original and outstanding)
Anyhow, this is me - hello, ciao, привет! I don’t know how long I may be here and how active I’ll be on this blog, but while the fire is there - let’s burn some shit, I guess? 👀

Note
6, 10, 12, 18, 20, 25, 28? (:
6. Favourite Team Principle
Argh. So Many! Claire Williams because she is the kick-ass queen of the goddamn paddock, Toto and Maurizio for their occasional sassy moments, Cyril for the lowkey shade, also Ross Brawn for everything he did for Brawn GP.
10. Favourite Driver(s) from 90s/2000s
Michael Schumacher (my og number 1 fave and king of racing), Mika Hakkinen, Kimi, Nando & Mark (they count right?) and
12. Your dream podium (three drivers from any era)?
Michael, Seb & Jenson. easy.
18. The race(s) that impressed you the most?
I have so many that I love for so many different reasons so I’ll try and give you a top five but my list is probably going to be 20+
- Brazil 2012
- Canada 2011
- Abu Dhabi 2012
- Silverstone 2018
- Brazil 2009
20. What do you think about your F1 Commentator(s)?
I would first like to say that the whole Channel 4 team is iconic af. They are a blessing to the paddock and they are seriously under appreciated and I still don’t know who is any of them will be around after this year and that makes me so sad.
Ben Edwards is probably my fave commentator, he is so knowledgeable about F1 it’s INSANE plus he has such an incredible passion for the sport which really comes through, especially when he’s commentating on a super intense on-tack battle. Plus he’s so neutral on everyone and provides some of the best analysis, worth more than the entire Sky commentary team put together.
I have mixed feelings about DC, when he’s not talking about the big 3 teams he’s pretty good, and actually provides some decent insight, but sometimes I feel like his bias shows through when he speaks about Mercedes/Ferrari/Red Bull. But that’s just me, I could be wrong.
I love it when they get Karun to sometimes commentate on Practice sessions because like Ben Edwards he is so knowledgeable and so excited to be there that’s he’s actually a joy to listen to
25. The craziest thing you’ve done to express your F1 passion?
Well it’s either getting up at half 1 in the morning to watch free practice or it’s my race weekend manicures. I know that painting your nails is seen as “super feminine” but I honestly don’t care I love so many teams/drivers and if spending hours (nope, not joking) on a nail art design helps me rep all my faves then so be it.
28. Let’s imagine that you are an F1 driver (any era). Which team would you like to drive for and whom would you like to see as your team mate? Do you see yourself as a World Champion?
A part of me wants to say teammates with Michel in the early 2000′s, but let’s be honest I wouldn’t stand a chance.
As much as it pains me to pick between my problem children, I’ll say McLaren, specifically late 90s, team mate with Mika. I probably wouldn’t win the championship against him and Michael but the racing would be EPIC.
Get to know me (F1 Fan) asks
