Cosmere Characters: Would They Be Good at Pulling Pranks?
Yesterday was April 1, aka April Fools Day, a holiday that encourages people to pull pranks. So that got me wondering: if such a holiday existed in the Cosmere, would various Cosmere characters be good at this whole "pranking" thing?
1. Syl: Yes, but only of one type
Syl is a prankster in canon: she likes to stick things together! Your shoes to your floor, your hand to your spear, your butt to your chair...so yes, she is great at pranks. I bet if April Fool's Day existed in the Cosmere, she would be an absolute menace.
2. Lopen: Depends on who you ask...
I think Lopen's pranks would be like his jokes: not intended to be mean, but actually kinda mean. In Dawnshard, Lopen came to learn that his jokes were not universally fun and beloved, and I feel like his journey with pranks would necessarily be similar. He'd love pulling them, though!
3. Wayne: Yes, and everyone has fun
Sanderson once said that the difference between Lopen & Wayne is that Wayne can read the room. So I think Wayne would not only like pranks, but would also be more aware of their effect. Like...if Lopen is tying your shoelaces together when you're late for work, Wayne is putting googly eyes (which he invented) on all of your family photos while you're out.
4. Sarene: Yes (mostly against Iadon)
Sarene, Miss Malicious-compliance-and-weaponizer-of-other-people's-misogyny, would love an excuse to "accidentally" prank Iadon. She'd either do really obvious pranks and blame them on feminine confusion ("Oh dear I just wanted to clean but I guess washing your portrait ruined it??") or do really sneaky pranks that no one could trace back to her (cut to Sarene secretly weakening the seams on all of Iadon's clothing so that a good sneeze will make them all fall off).
5. Kaladin: Not anymore
We know that in canon Kaladin pulled pranks as a kid--he told Tien to save a lurg to dump in their dad's bath later. But I feel like nowadays, Kaladin is too gloomy and glowering to pull pranks. He might just enjoy Syl's sometimes though...
6. Steris: Maybe they're just not the most creative...
I think that if a Pranking Holiday existed, Steris would study up and do a textbook prank. Like, she's replacing Wax's sugar bowl with salt, and then he drinks a sip of salty coffee, and then she says, "Ah ha! You have been Pranked per the Social Conventions of today's Holiday!" And Wax would be genuinely delighted.
7. Dalinar: No--not at any point in his life
Blackthorn Dalinar would think a prank is "stabbing a guy in the leg and laughing." Modern-day Dalinar would be puzzled that anyone actually does pranks--aren't they, you know, kinda beneath you? The Codes would DEFINITELY not allow them.
8. Sigzil: No, too much paperwork
The Prank Authorization Form is 7 pages and takes 5 weeks for review and approval. Who has that kind of time???
9. Lift: Yes, absolutely
I can see Lift positioning buckets of water over, like, Dalinar's door or slicking the floor right as that merchant she saw yelling at kids walks by. Now--imagine Lift & Syl going on a prank spree together. You're welcome.
10. Hoid: Nobody knows
Hoid put paperclips in the pockets of every single one of Elhokar's outfits. He put edible glitter into Rock's stew, turning it into Glitter Stew. He found one of Kaladin's buttons on the ground and straight-up ate it while making direct eye contact.
But...were any of those things pranks? Were they plots? Were they just Hoid being Wit?
Nobody knows.

I read Elantris for the first time this year and because of all the discourse online I was preparing myself for the Worst Cosmere Book. So imagine my surprise when I absolutely loved it.
Yes, I loved Hrathen, one of Sanderson's best characters for sure. But what about Sarene??? She does suffer from a little of the 'not like other girls' syndrome, but otherwise she's such a great character! She is cunning, smart, strong and compationate. I loved the scene in the library where she's studying politics from the old books in Elantris. You can definitly see that she will become a great queen.
And Raoden. Wonderful, optimistic Raoden. I remember telling someone that I loved reading his chapters and they told me that Raoden was a Gary Sue. Which... sure, I can see that, and he definitely got away with some pretty horrible things (i.e. getting Shaor killed, lying to Sarene about his identity). But reading his parts made me feel so much hope! After the emotional turmoil that was reading Stormlight last year, reading about someone who's life was ruined trying to make the best out of his situation and while also helping other people in his position felt so good!
I agree that Elantris has its faults. But overall it was such a pleasant read. And I needed to read a book like this at the time. People need to be nicer to Elantris.

Oh look ive stumbled into a party with all the cosmere protagonists!
Susebron, Elend, Raoden, and Adolin are talking books, Adolin looks quite bored but everyone in the party is extremely enthusiastic.
Huh their wives have grouped up too. I think they are having a sassy comment competition. Sarene is giving a good effort but Shallan and Siri are running away with it. Siri's hair is bright yellow and they all have those smug grins on their faces. It looks like Vin is sticking with her court persona and seems to be discreetly judging if the others can fight.
Oh good! Raoden noticed Adolin was bored and switched the conversation to responsibility. They are all now talking animatedly about what they owe to their people.

Sarene for you! I found it hard to connect with this one since I read the book almost 9 years ago and I remember little to nothing about the plot, so I did my best with the wikia

I've read more or less 240 pages of Elantris and the only thing I can say is that I absolutely love Raoden. He's just this lovely thing who finds himself in a really shitty place and in terrible conditions but doesn't give up and tries to make his and everyone's situation better. And not only that, but for what I've read in Sarene's chapters he was also aware of his father being a terrible king and kind of trying to make it all better. He was also loved by all of the citizents of Kae because he's genuinely a great person. He's so cute, I can't wait to see what else happens to him.

What Cosmere Characters are Doing on a Snow Day
Snow doesn't really seem to happen in a lot of the Cosmere but, well...if they DID have snow, what would Cosmere characters be doing?
Lift: Sledding! Slicking the ground makes her sled go real fast!
Marasi: Inside, wrapped in blankets, drinking hot chocolate.
Allik: Inside, wrapping in fifty-thousand blankets, by the fire. He's still cold.
Venli: Building snow-singers. (Snow is lot harder to work with than stone!)
Susebron: Catching snowflakes on his (new) tongue. Having a great time.
Adolin: Building a snow castle out of snow bricks.
Maya: Silently and seriously helping Adolin build.
Azure: Leading a contingent of men in a truly epic snow fight. She is covered in snow splatters, grinning.
Kaladin: Leading the other contingent. So good at dodging that he hasn't been hit yet--except for the one time he dove in front of Skar to protect him.
Sarene: Making snow angels, mostly to piss off Hrathen, who is visibly shaking at the blasphemy.
Shallan: Making note of the various animal tracks in the snow, sketching them carefully.
Pattern: Staring at individual snowflakes as they come down, buzzing with intense excitement.
Syl: Zipping along excitedly among the snowflakes.
Navani: Just invented snow shoes and is watching her engineers craft them.
Sebarial: Sitting in a tent full of heating fabrials, in which he and Palona are drinking mulled wine and watching the festivities
Rock: Has created a Hot Stew Station where people can come and get warmed up.
Dalinar: Wearing Navani's snow shoes, standing silently, watching everyone.
Szeth: His white clothing blends into the snow. In his hand, a finely crafted, perfectly round snowball. His target: Kaladin. The snowball fight ended hours ago, but no one could find Szeth to tell him. So he continues to hunt, silent and invisible in the frozen landscape, stalking his next target.
He's having a good time.

The thing is that Hrathen’s love language is power struggle, so to me it makes perfect sense that he’s in love with both Sarene and Dilaf.

ell, it still is cosmere fashion month and for week three, since the theme is “secret admirer” I thought about offering something from Elantris, since it has not only one but two (even if vastly different) admirers among the main characters. I don’t know why Raoden almost always ends up with a Hippie vibe in my interpretations but here we are ...
