Stormlight Characters Meet an Octopus
As requested by @miss-madithe-baddie :)
It's Octopus Time on Roshar!
1. Kaladin
Kaladin: [stares at octopus]
Octopus: [stares at Kaladin]
Kaladin: So it...what? Is it one of those creatures that squishes down into crevices during storms? It doesn't look like it has bones.
Kaladin: Kinda big though. Would need a big crevice.
Octopus: [stares at Kaladin]
Kaladin: ...
Kaladin: I feel like it's judging me, somehow.
2. Bridge Four
Moash: Well, I don't like it.
Moash: An animal with no carapace is unnatural.
Rlain: ...You're an animal without a carapace.
Moash: W-Well, it's different for humans! We can build houses!
Drehy: Maybe the giant squish bug builds houses.
Drehy: We all saw it pick up the shell and put it on its head.
Skar: That's more fashion than construction, I think.
Sigzil: We saw it go into the water. It's a sea creature.
Sigzil: Sea creatures don't need carapaces like land animals do.
Moash: It's on the land right now!!
Skar: Guys, shut up! It's wearing a shell as a hat again!
Renarin: It really is quite fashionable.
3. Adolin
Adolin: Sure is weird looking!
Adolin: Look! It has little sticky cups under its legs!
Kaladin: D-Don't grab it! It's gonna bite you!
Adolin: I bet it can crawl up walls 'n' stuff!
Adolin: Hey, isn't that something you can do too, Bridgeboy?
Kaladin: I use Stormlight! Not sticky vine legs!
Adolin: Bet its some kind of tiny Windrunner.
Kaladin: It is NOT!
4. Shallan
Shallan: Hush, all of you.
Shallan: This thing is beautiful! Gorgeous!
Octopus: [abruptly changes color to match surroundings]
Shallan: !!
Shallan: Talented! Amazing!
Shallan: This might be the most important drawing I'll ever do!
Adolin: ...You drew me last week for our wedding anniversary?
Shallan: [already drawing] And you didn't even change color ONCE!
5. Lopen
Lopen: [staring intently at octopus]
Lopen: [staring intently at octopus]
Lopen: [staring intently at octopus]
Lopen: [concentration face]
Rock: ...You're trying to grow more arms, aren't you?
Lopen: I didn't know EIGHT was an option!
6. Zahel
Zahel: I've seem those things before.
Zahel: Very smart.
Zahel: Very tasty.
Rock: ...Tasty you say?
Shallan: NO
7. Navani
Navani: Seeing this bizarre creature gives me so many ideas.
Navani: Dalinar, do you think we should build semi-aquatic vehicles that can go on both land and water and develop color-changing camouflage technology?
Dalinar [trying to be a supportive husband]: And perhaps the land-water vehicle could have...tentacles?
Navani: No ideas are wrong in the brainstorming stage.
Navani: But also no.
8. Dieno (the Mink)
Dieno: [gives octopus a bro nod]
Octopus: [gives Dieno a bro nod back]
Dalinar: ...What was that?
Dieno: Ah, it is nothing! Just two master escape artists recognizing each other.
Dalinar: Escape...artist?
Dalinar: This creature has done nothing but sit on that rock and occasionally go into that pool this whole time.
Dieno: Yet nevertheless, people like us...we recognize each other.
Dalinar: ...
Dalinar: [doubtfully] If you say so.
9. Dalinar
It is later. Dalinar is walking through Urithiru.
Something from above touches his face with a thwick sound.
He looks up.
The Octopus is looking down at him from the ceiling, one tentacle reaching down. Lift is also in the ceiling.
Lift gives him a thumbs up.
Dalinar keeps walking.
10. Lift
Lift: Today has been the greatest day of my life.
Lift: I had no IDEA there so many vents 'n' shit that someone like you could squish through!
Lift: And when you used your dark water attack to push that button? Amazing!
Lift: Even I had trouble keeping up with you!!
Lift: Truly, you are my new best friend.

Some Edgedancers after a length, late-night feverish rant that mostly consisted of me trying to figure out how they navigate when having frictionless feet means you can't push off the ground to steer like ice skaters do (I'm not a physics major, though). Solution? Staves/spears, which can change in shape at your need if you've got a spren version (or just your hands, if you're like Lift). It was fun experimenting with referenes for this one. I used a combination of artistic roller skaters, speed skaters, and figure skaters, then took to playing around with canon things like shardplate, a more performative outfit... you get the gist.
Plus some Bridge 4 since I got really fixated on professional skydivers (specifically kuczynska.maja) for inspiration as to how Windrunners might move in the air. Ran out of steam to finish all of them, unfortunately.

Cosmere Characters: Would They Be Good at Pulling Pranks?
Yesterday was April 1, aka April Fools Day, a holiday that encourages people to pull pranks. So that got me wondering: if such a holiday existed in the Cosmere, would various Cosmere characters be good at this whole "pranking" thing?
1. Syl: Yes, but only of one type
Syl is a prankster in canon: she likes to stick things together! Your shoes to your floor, your hand to your spear, your butt to your chair...so yes, she is great at pranks. I bet if April Fool's Day existed in the Cosmere, she would be an absolute menace.
2. Lopen: Depends on who you ask...
I think Lopen's pranks would be like his jokes: not intended to be mean, but actually kinda mean. In Dawnshard, Lopen came to learn that his jokes were not universally fun and beloved, and I feel like his journey with pranks would necessarily be similar. He'd love pulling them, though!
3. Wayne: Yes, and everyone has fun
Sanderson once said that the difference between Lopen & Wayne is that Wayne can read the room. So I think Wayne would not only like pranks, but would also be more aware of their effect. Like...if Lopen is tying your shoelaces together when you're late for work, Wayne is putting googly eyes (which he invented) on all of your family photos while you're out.
4. Sarene: Yes (mostly against Iadon)
Sarene, Miss Malicious-compliance-and-weaponizer-of-other-people's-misogyny, would love an excuse to "accidentally" prank Iadon. She'd either do really obvious pranks and blame them on feminine confusion ("Oh dear I just wanted to clean but I guess washing your portrait ruined it??") or do really sneaky pranks that no one could trace back to her (cut to Sarene secretly weakening the seams on all of Iadon's clothing so that a good sneeze will make them all fall off).
5. Kaladin: Not anymore
We know that in canon Kaladin pulled pranks as a kid--he told Tien to save a lurg to dump in their dad's bath later. But I feel like nowadays, Kaladin is too gloomy and glowering to pull pranks. He might just enjoy Syl's sometimes though...
6. Steris: Maybe they're just not the most creative...
I think that if a Pranking Holiday existed, Steris would study up and do a textbook prank. Like, she's replacing Wax's sugar bowl with salt, and then he drinks a sip of salty coffee, and then she says, "Ah ha! You have been Pranked per the Social Conventions of today's Holiday!" And Wax would be genuinely delighted.
7. Dalinar: No--not at any point in his life
Blackthorn Dalinar would think a prank is "stabbing a guy in the leg and laughing." Modern-day Dalinar would be puzzled that anyone actually does pranks--aren't they, you know, kinda beneath you? The Codes would DEFINITELY not allow them.
8. Sigzil: No, too much paperwork
The Prank Authorization Form is 7 pages and takes 5 weeks for review and approval. Who has that kind of time???
9. Lift: Yes, absolutely
I can see Lift positioning buckets of water over, like, Dalinar's door or slicking the floor right as that merchant she saw yelling at kids walks by. Now--imagine Lift & Syl going on a prank spree together. You're welcome.
10. Hoid: Nobody knows
Hoid put paperclips in the pockets of every single one of Elhokar's outfits. He put edible glitter into Rock's stew, turning it into Glitter Stew. He found one of Kaladin's buttons on the ground and straight-up ate it while making direct eye contact.
But...were any of those things pranks? Were they plots? Were they just Hoid being Wit?

finished Dawnshard! character wise: i love Rysn, i love Lopen, (I LOVE THE ONE KALADIN SCENE RAHHHH)
plot wise: this was such a cute little travelogue like yes explore a deserted island with hidden treasures with a group of people you eventually start to get along with but then one of the people you trusted most betrayed you because he was one of the guardians of the island.
cosmere wise: i can't wait to see how the dawnshards come into play in KOWT
