I mean I am all for girls sticking together, especially against someone like Joe Jonas who I have side-eye since forever, but if that means fawning over Taylor Swift I guess I'll pass. Especially when she did something very very similar to someone with waaaaay less power than she has in the industry. She has much more in common with Joe Jonas than with Sophie Turner. Obviously, the situations vary in terms of Sophie being a woman (so misogyny adds an awful layer to what she's going through, which Joe Alwyn doesn't have to face) and the mother of Joe's kids, which makes Joe Jonas' actions even worse, but how is it that people are forgetting how Taylor went on her own "smear campaign" against Joe Alwyn just because he dared to break up with her and /or not be willing to marry her? She painted the guy as if he was insecure and jealous of her success, implied he was holding her back, went on pap walks to drive the point home that he was keeping her "hidden" and preventing her from being her own self, made all of her friends unfollow him on social media, all of this knowing exactly how that would look like, and how that would weaponize her fans against him. The dude can't do as much as take a subway without his name going trending on Twitter with her insane fan base calling him all kinds of names. There were fans even wishing for him to kill himself, and the tweet had tons of likes. Never mind the fact she made a point of dating a racist misogynistic right after and weaponized that relationship too (because you can't tell me part of her motivation to state in public she had been the happiest she has ever been, to have the guy in all of her concerts singing along her songs when she built the narrative that Joe was unsupportive of her success wasn't a way of getting back at him). And according to her own lyrics, Joe Alwyn has a history of dealing with mental health issues, like anxiety and depression. And yet, Taylor did all of that to the person she dated for six years. It wasn't a marriage with kids, but the relationship lasted longer than Joe Jonas and Sophie's marriage and almost the entirety of Joe Jonas and Sophie's relationship. I see no difference between Joe Jonas and Taylor Swift, she just gets away with being an awful person. And unfortunately for Joe Alwyn, people bought the narrative that Taylor sold out there about him. Luckily, Joe Jonas wasn't able to stick the "Sophie is a bad mother and unfit partner" narrative to her. I also can't help but think this outing is much more PR Taylor swift seeing an opportunity to come out as a “girl’s girl” than Taylor Swift reaching out to a friend. Afterall, where was this attitude when people were calling her out for dating a racist misogynistic? Hmm yeah, she can fuck off. I also am going to be super cynical here, and it's something I've noticed about her for ages now. To me, she feels a certain validation in other women's failed relationships. Especially with a woman who got something Taylor wished had had herself.

On the double standards of Taylor’s love life and Swifties’ role in Taylor’s reputation

{Fair warning: this is kind of long and I actually originally wrote it during the Ratty stuff but it’s relevant now and this post from @9w1ft (specifically the tweet) made me think that maybe this needed to be really laid out there. }

Disclaimer: I am in no way claiming to know what Taylor’s sexuality is definitively, nor am I suggesting that every relationship she’s had with a man was fake, or that she is a lesbian. I myself have experienced enough bi erasure and biphobia to know better, but I had to put this out there explicitly so hetlors don’t have that as a “gotcha”.

Swifties have the lowest possible standards for whom they consider to be a boyfriend of Taylor’s.

Their standards are a) the media has to stir something up b) they have to interact distantly in some public capacity before they c) walk around together (holding hands or not).

I can give you the names so many women with whom Taylor acted like that, often for longer periods of time and with more interaction than a couple dinners and pap walks or whatever she’s done with those men. And that’s without time to go do research which would doubtlessly turn up more names.

To name some examples:

Karlie Kloss, Diana Agron, Selena Gomez, Gigi Hadid, Blake Lively, Cara Delevingne, Martha Hunt, Sophie Turner, Lorde, all three Haim sisters, Zoe Kravitz, Emma Stone, Camila Cabello, Lily Aldridge, Lily Donaldson.

(To be clear, I’m not suggesting that Taylor dated all or most of those women.)

Now, I have no doubt that if most swifties looked up photos of Taylor with a lot of those women they’d go “they aren’t even doing anything in that picture” or “they’re just walking side by side” or whatever else.

THAT’S THE POINT

I’m 1000% sure that if you photoshopped a man into basically any of those pics people would assume they’re dating because they’re walking together.

Almost all of Taylor’s supposed boyfriends have had significantly less interaction with her than those women, but people don’t hesitate to say she’s dating the men. Her team can and will deny it, but swifties will add a name to their list anyway, and that creates a whole other problem.

The sl*t shaming:

In my opinion, the sl*t shaming that Taylor has experienced for about the last 15 years has been, at least in part, because of swifties who jump to conclusions about men she’s seen with. When her own fans believe she’s dated however many guys, it’s that much easier for the media to repeat that and twist it to be negative.

If you wouldn’t look at a random guy and girl standing within a few feet of each other or walking together and come to the conclusion that they must be dating, why do you assume that about Taylor? Or, for that matter, does every person of the opposite gender that you associate with have to be your SO?

[And yes that can easily be turned around on Gaylors, but the whole point is that we aren’t solely using proximity to link potential exes or lovers to Taylor. We actually do the analysis of the lyrics, we break down the connections, we do the research.]

My point is that swifties have contributed on a large scale to Taylor’s sl*t shaming in a way that should make them think twice about who they claim she’s dating. Unfortunately as we’ve seen with this M*tty situation {and now the football guy}, they don’t seem to have the self awareness to realize how they’ve aided such a disgusting campaign of hate.

One more thing: you can say that no one will say those things now anyway because Taylor is on top of the world and they wouldn’t dare sl*t shame the Queen of Pop or “The Music Industry”. You might even be right. But if you do this and feel no guilt or shame over how your actions may have played a part in the several intense periods of sl*t shaming that Taylor has gone through previously, you need to think about why that is.

Taylor said it best in her speech at the Grammy museum in September 2015. She was introducing Blank Space and talking about the situation that made her write the song.

“In the last couple of years the media have had a really wonderful fixation on kind of painting me as like the psycho serial dater girl… It got pretty out of control there for a couple of years because… every article would be like, Taylor Swift Standing Near Some Guy. Watch Out Guy!”

That sounds insane, and it was definitely worse then than it is now, but the fact that it’s happening right now at all is ridiculous. Swifties need to stop helping the media tie Taylor’s name to men as if that makes her relevant. She’s a highly awarded singer, songwriter, and performer who has set and broken records (and then broken the ones she’s set) countless times. Swifties need to stop pretending that dating someone is what makes her interesting or we’re no better than the people who think she only writes breakup songs.

The Joe hate is so uncalled for. He was there for Taylor at her worst. Some of most romantic songs are about him. It’s wild to me to see some Swifties switch up that fast.

As a massive Swiftie and a big sports girl, I’m cringing at the over saturation of media coverage and some fans already planning their wedding. This also goes for Timothee Chalamet from filming LW. They had really good, natural chemistry from filming that they were bound to become close friends. Not to mention how fun their promo interviews were for the film. And she may or may not have been given an invite to be in Call Me By Your Name sequel.

Lizzo is a given seeing how close she is with Harry. YN often jokes about she's the third wheel between the three of them. When she and Lizzo are in a room together (at a show, in the studio, etc.) they're always laughing and cracking jokes. And Watch Out For The Big Grrrls? YN was a guest to perform with Lizzo at Bonnaroo with her own core tour dance crew consisting of females ranging from different colors, shapes, and sizes.

Being besties with The Weeknd is another obvious choice from the number of songs they've collaborated with and spent countless hours in the studio making music and talking about anything and everything. Whenever they get the chance, they'll have each other as a surprise guest at one of their shows. Although he had nothing to worry about, this friendship in particular makes Harry feel the kind of jealousy from when they were in the band together.

Megan Thee Stallion and YN have such a fun friendship. From what you mentioned about the two of them, all I can see is YN dancing along in the wings of the stage to Thot Shit. Then Megan quickly goes over to grab her hand and pulls on stage. So while Megan holds her hand and continues to rap, YN has her back to the audience, moving her hips seductively as she slowly lowers herself down. She even looks over her shoulder and takes a sip from her see-through, neon green cup as she does it.

Oh my gosh and Mac Miller and Ari?! YN played cupid and was the one to introduce them to one another. And you best believe she was by Ari's side during his mourning. She lost a very good friend and she made sure she was there by Ari's side for whatever she needed.

It's all about connections, right? It's not what you know but who you know? So after meeting Paul Mescal and Daisy Edgar Jones at one fancy event, they immediately got along. So when working at the studio one day with Phoebe Bridgers, she played cupid for the second time and introduced her to Paul.

And with Daisy, YN was introduced to Sebastian Stan when they filmed Fresh. She was really grateful for all of her media training because she kept her cool instead of fangirling like she wanted to (if only she knew that he felt the same way). Both of their managers and agents may or may not have gotten in touch for a possible movie together...

Through Sebastian, YN was able to meet the bundle of sunshine that is Simu Liu. Simy treats her like the little British sister he never had. They don't see each other that often, but it's all smiles and witty jokes when they catch each other on a red carpet.

The thing that irks me is that Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner’s divorce is that it’s charting into very serious territory and Swifties are still trying g to make it about Taylor and how Taylor was wanting people how bad Joe was and I’m over here like…I could give less of a shit about Joe Jones and how he broke up with Taylor Swift in a 23 second phone call, these two situations are not remotely the same. Joe and Sophie are in a very serious divorce which is escalating to a very nasty custody battle because Joe wants his daughters in the states and Sophie wants them in the UK. And even if the courts favored joint custody between the two, it would be very hard for their to children to acclimate between both school systems especially if the curriculums are vastly different. Not to mention he’s filing in Florida which is a huge red flag to me because of how Florida is declining as a state especially when it comes to education and the quality of living and it rubs me the wrong way that he files in a state that is very anti women. This is a serious issue and it should be treated as such.

allegedly they owned a house together in florida which they sold very recently so that's why he filed there, but he's an evangelical so him filing in florida makes sense anyway. literally no one is taking this whole situation seriously and it's just being treated like a tv show drama between fake people, when these people and their kids are very real and none of this is "winning". there's nothing to be won in pap walks to "get back" at the other person or spreading rumors through tmz that one of them "likes to party". but all anyone cares about is taylor and her ancient relationship with joe, and turning it into some "team x" vs "team y" social media campaign.

As someone who has always enjoyed Taylor's music, and is almost the same age as her, the behaviour of these past few months has been unreal at best and almost ruined it for me. It's like the worst version of all the antics I used to dislike from a decade ago, without the excuse for youth and inexperience: she is reaching her mid thirties!

And I could not for the life of me understand how someone could dive deep into this fame-hungry performance and selling your personal life for clouts after years of doing the opposite, and talking about how much this behaviour had made you suffer.

Then it clicked. That probably Joe was the one to break up with her, and everything since then has been a performance to get back at him and a rejection of the years spent together, and of the way they had built their life. But whatever goes behind the scene, and I hope she at least has a genuine connection with the people in her life, from the way she has dealt with her new realtionships to inserting herself into her ex divorce narrative her behaviour has been so hard to move on from. It's hard to deny the deep desire for a constant spotlight on her personal life when you know she can make sure it's not there, as she has done so for years. Helping Sophie Turner was sweet, but did it have to become a headline with a pap walk? This is not something that happens because she is famous and she can't help it, it's something she is clearly seeking and organising with her team. And I can't for the life of me imagine a version of wanting this level of attention on yourself that is not completely patological.

I wish I could just listen to the music without knowing anything about her life.

You can't listen to her music without knowing anything about her life because her music just revolves around it. It is addictive because of the controversy they spread not because of the production or quality. And when you realize she has turned into a terrible person, her music starts sounding terrible too

i’m gonna go out on a limb and say we all have theories/thoughts etc on what happened with taylor and karlie from 1989 to rep. but what absolutely blows my mind is when i log on twitter and my feed is filled with tweets about how sophie turner is staying at taylor’s apartment that’s ‘somehow magically babyproof’ ie she and karlie have a secret child together like. what. how are these people functioning adults with these beliefs lol
