a kin memory

as Monika from ddlc, i remember two timelines/lives! one timeline follows the canon events of the game where i was a sentient entity trapped within the game. in the other timeline, i was a human girl living in like, a normal world, except i suffered a huuuge breakdown from heavy stress. something in me snapped and i began to see the world as lifeless and flat, and i thought i was stuck in a simulation or video game of some sorts where everything and everyone was fake and i was the only real being. it was.... very hard, as you can probably guess, but with professional help and support from the other club members i got better

infodump about an oc

@yaoimurder hi squid I'm tagging uu here bc this is where i ramble about that vampire oc i mentioned ages ago, if uu remember that!!! read on if uu'd like (: my oc infodumps are very long and i mention almost EVERYTHING about them so uu can just read the basic info only lol

her name is midah she is my babygirl. she's also my first (and only) empires SMP oc and i ship her w my f/o (mythicalsausage s1)!!

picture #1 is much more accurate to how midah looks but picture #2 includes details about midah not present in the other photo, such as her red vial necklace, flowers on her cheekbones, and silly little hat

since she's an oc for a series I'll mention stuff that some might not know about, im too lazy to explain everything though so if anyone's curious at all just ask :3

okay midah's backstory is a LIIITTLE murky bc i mainly use her for vague-daydreaming purposes. anyway shes an assassin sorceress who practices blood magic and other types of magic (such as offensive fire Magic that involves creating and manipulating white fire). i got the idea for her name from the line, "touch me, midas, make me part of your design," from my ordinary life. other than that though, her character/story doesn't have much connection to the mythology figure midas. it's just her name that's connected to him. her name is pronounced like midas without the "s", or like the name Micah.

midah is half vampire and half flower elf. i don't really have info on what a "flower elf" is exactly, i don't think i wrote down the info for that, but basically it's just. Elf type connected to Flowers. and flowers often grow on (and maybe in...) their bodies. this can be seen in the red roses that grow on midah's cheekbones. help me my brain is coming up with ideas fur this elf type as i type this but I'm too tired to really focus on that and too focused on finishing this rambles

shes brave, strong, self assured of her own capabilities, tbh for the most part she's a normal person with not much mental and emotional problems, and she cares deeply for those she loves (like a certain mythical j. sausage... aka my f/o ever) she cares deeply to the point of sacrifice but hey, anything for true love amirite... shes also usually the voice of logic and reason compared to sausage but she doesn't try to stop his antics (until his antics start getting a little... demonic.) she totally tops sausage btw. shes also older than him by a bit and she's much taller than him (she's like 7ft tall)

anyway midah isn't very affected by the sunlight BUT she does need to drink blood every now and then, otherwise she gets a bit Quirky (aggressive, uncontrollable monsterlike behavior, and also she starts feeling a lot of physical pain) blood is like a Huge thing for her. she can perform rituals using blood. she wears a vial of blood tied to a necklace for good luck. she has a special bond with the blood sheep

wait what the fuck is a blood sheep? they're creatures from empires SMP s1, particularly the mythland empire (cough cough, that's the main setting of midah's "story") basically they're just Minecraft sheep dyed red. but lorewise they're mysterious creatures who have inhabited mythland for a very long time. they exhibit erratic behavior and sometimes display aggression to other beings. their blood and guts are also very useful for rituals! the blood sheep like midah a lot. they follow her around and nuzzle her like docile farm sheep and sometimes she can communicate with them and they follow her orders. they also protect her FIERCELY against anyone

the vial midah wears around her neck is filled with the blood of a sacrificed blood sheep. she wears it for good luck but replaces it every now and then because the luck can degrade and eventually attract bad luck instead

so yeah i have a lot of different storylines i imagined for midah and ill try to go over them briefly (I'll totally not type like 6 more paragraphs)

- backstory #1 explaining how sausage and midah met: midah moves to mythland and works there as a regular farmer at first and then attempts to join the assassin's guild managed by sausage. she expresses interest in being an assassin and spy. sausage is unsure of her at first,but hes intrigued by her, so he tests her with an easy normal mission: assassinating codfather Jimmy in the empire next door and bringing back his head. yeah that's totally not, like, the beginning of a war and political feud or something. so midah sneaks to the codlands, successfully kills Jimmy, returns with his head, and gets accepted into the guild. at the beginning of this backstory she puts on this facade of a totally unassuming and regular citizen who doesn't seem to have any fighting capabilities, let alone the capability to fight with magic and perform rituals, but then time passes and more and more is revealed about her and it's like Wow she's not who she seems to be. at all. and she quits her farmer job and goes all in on the assassin gig but does other stuff on the side too. and falls in love with saus along the way LOL

- midah x saus backstory #2: they're ~ childhood friends ~ who have been separated for like more than a decade and reunite when midah moves back to mythland. (i envisioned this scene in my head actually—a few days before returning to mythland, midah sends sausage tons and tons of letters sealed within a thick envelope, talking about her plans to return to mythland and why. and also updating him on what's been going on in her life the past decade or so. then on the day she arrives in mythland, they have one of those cute cliche scenes where they run towards each other on a long path and hug each other at the middle. and they cry a bit and talk and marvel about how long its been since they last saw each other. its really sweet ugh)

in this backstory midah was actually part of one of mythland's noble families. i made up some lore where mythland used to be ruled by four noble families (among them were house sausage, which is where sausage comes from duh, and house lavendar, where midah comes from, and yea it's intentionally spelled that way). the noble families/houses went to war with each other for power over mythland and the other two houses were defeated. most members of house lavendar left of their own accord and the rest that remained renounced their noble lineage, leaving house sausage who became the ruling family of mythland. the members of house lavendar specialized in blood magic and a lot of advanced complex blood spells were created by them. hence they have connections to the blood sheep in some way.

i like the longtime friends/allies to lovers dynamic that's going on in backstory #2 (: backstory #1 is still cool in its own way, strangers to lovers is nice, getting to know each other on purpose bc uu find each other intriguing is nice, even though uu might think uur very different people at first, uu get to know the other person a bit more and uu find out things about them and uu realize uur not so different after all ^_^ i read smtg about that once, about loving each other on purpose and choosing to love each other even though uu don't have years and years of history with the other person, and uu grew up completely without them and uur roots aren't tangled with theirs. but still uu love them. and that's very beautiful

For a moment, Tommy almost thought the man had somehow seen him. But he quickly brushed it off, knowing that it was impossible. Tommy was imperceivable, because he was dead and he was a ghost.

Tommy expected the man to move on, to keep walking as though nothing had happened. But the man kept standing there, his face flickering through emotions too fast for Tommy to register.

The man stared in Tommy’s direction with startling clarity, as though he wasn’t actually looking through Tommy and actually knew he was there.

It was silent aside from the pouring rain, and Tommy felt like he was frozen in place.

“Tommy?” The man said, his voice disbelieving. “Is that you? A-Are you real?”

The silence echoed afterward.

Ive seen a lot of your posts and i find many of the things you say to be facinating and eye opening when it comes to the dsmp.

But when it comes to your character or story critical posts it feels very... hateful? Hateful isnt exactly the right word because its clear you enjoy the dsmp. But perhaps frustrating and annoyed. Its like you expect these random minecrafters to be professional story boarders and directors?

I feel like a part of this fandom has forgotten that the story originally started on improv. Sure, the story could be more balanced since its scripted now.

And dont get me wrong its important to talk about flaws! But I feel like you and other people are putting these mcyts on a high pedestal. These people aren't in an animation studio trying to develope this detailed plot where something mentioned in season 1 will make sense in season 6. They're just friends who one day decided to make a story. Sure some of them take the story more seriously than others, but should everyone be held up to the same standard?

I think we should just let the silly little minecrafters do their silly little roleply.

1: I treat the dream smp like I treat all of the other media that I consume, because I find meta analysis And Critique fun.

critique is actually what I have the most fun writing, because I’m a very adhd and autistic person and it can be difficult for me to get my thoughts to flow into a coherent idea without a point of Focus. I’ll have a dozen ideas that I’m chewing on for hours, days, weeks, months, or even years that suddenly click in to place with the right Idea, the right wording, the right trigger thanks to thoughts I’ve had digesting a new lore stream or to someone else’s post. and that’s a really rewarding process for me.

I don’t critique because I hate the dream smp, I critique because being involved in this media and this fandom made me Feel Something and I want to unwind what that is. and getting at the bottom of those feelings means being honest. and that’s fun ! I enjoy being able to do that and I enjoy watching Other People do it too.

I Can get worked up and emotional, especially in the direct aftermath of a stream, but that’s a part of what makes it fun. getting worked up over something that’s ultimately harmless and picking apart what it makes you Feel is a really low stakes way of sharpening your analysis and capacity for self reflection, as well as just being, you know, Entertaining For Some People.

and what I Feel doesn’t have to be negative either, I’m just more likely to post a critique because, like I said, I am fantastically adhd. people know me as being very well worded, but trying to do analysis when I’m really invested in something is like trying to do crossword on a trampoline. my dms get my stream of consciousness in that regard fjkldaslkjadfs

2: the idea that we shouldn’t critique the dream smp because it’s done by amateurs has always been a take that reads as diminishing the quality of not only the dream smp, but of non-published media.

yes it Is a good idea to temper your expectations for what is realistically possible for these people in this context in this medium, because there Needs to be margin of error for live media. the dream smp has challenges that tv shows simply do not, and that’s part of what makes it as special as it is.

but to say that we’re not allowed to Think about it, that we shouldn’t take it seriously as a creative work and should just instead sit back and let it wash over us because it’s a Silly Little Minecraft Story just overtly devalues the story that’s being told and the work that’s gone into telling it.

some of the best stories I’ve ever experienced have been independent work from either a single creator or a small team of creators posted on the internet, often times from people just starting or who are new to the medium they’re telling it in. The Dream Smp Is One Of Those Stories.

I’m not comparing the dream smp to a blockbuster or something that’s been carefully crafted with millions of dollars and hundreds of hands like Arcane. I’m comparing the dream smp to Itself. to what it’s Already accomplished through it’s story telling and through it’s medium with the Exact Same limitations that it has now (minus the horrendous scheduling issues, which is out of the creators’ control but still something that could’ve and still Can Be better worked around).

the dream smp has some of the most compelling storytelling I have ever been a part of and it’s Because of its medium, not despite it. and that’s Exactly why I’m as invested as I am, Exactly why I’m not just going to turn my brain off and say that it’s just a silly little minecraft story.

every time I see someone say that it’s Just A Minecraft Roleplay and we shouldn’t think about it that much I remember quackity saying that this was the most fulfilling work he’s done in his entire 8 year career, and it can’t help but read as disrespectful to me. or at least as Misguided.

it’s Okay if you don’t like critical analysis. I do it because it’s fun and makes my engagement with a piece of media I like Better, and nobody else has to do if it that isn’t true for them. but this idea that people get that critical analysis Must stem from hatred, Must stem from impossibly high expectations, Must stem from a place of disrespect is a strange one that I think we as a fandom need to drop.

Despite not being much of a reader, I wanted to make a fic rec list of my personal favorites - because some fics just can’t be captured in my bookmarks well enough. Also, I was feeling very cheesy. Also also, in previous fandoms, I used to love making long reviews, so I guess I’m bringing that back for the love of Karlnapity! These are all about c!Karlnapity, btw ;)

Layered with richly written characters, a lot of emotions (that are very, very soul-searching), multiple points of view, mystery and tension, vivid scenes, beautiful motifs, everything on top of a compelling storyline, When The Sunlight Dies marks the beginning of the scarecrow universe. The universe is like a reimagined Dream SMP, filled with various Minecraft and Dream SMP lore-related references and characters.

This fic takes both imagination and soul and incorporates them into each line. I don’t think I can say this eloquently nor casually enough: this fic is beyond phenomenal. Each chapter draws 3-5 (not to exact number, but about there) scenes into one beautifully continuous story, and even now I could go on forever about each part of the story. The angst, the fluff, the description, all press ready and gorgeously done.

A special thing to note about this fic is that it is intensely emotional - I don’t think I’ve met a single person who’s read this fic and not cried - so be ready for that a few chapters in (for example, don’t read it in front of your parents like I did once 💀). And by all means, if the tagging is too intense for you, don’t read, as all the tags will probably hit very well. But if you do embark on this incredible journey of a fic, grab those tissues and your favorite plushie - you’re gonna need 'em.

I would recommend reading this with rain in the background or soft music from a classical music playlist. But even without music, this fic is unbelievably amazing <3

This fic is near and dear to my heart. Diamond Veins is one of my only exceptions to pure angst - yes, it’s all angst. Still, the angst is incredibly well done, one with the author’s style of voice that consists of raw but very well-structured prose. This type of prose feels like you’re casually walking side-by-side with the character, imbibing in every action and thought and emotion they experience for 7 progressing scenes, and it’s honestly cathartic to read.

This is one of the very first fics I ever read since joining the Dream SMP fandom. Not sure how I stumbled upon it, but when I did, oh, let me tell you what happened. This fic holds the record for the most gasps I made in the span of half an hour. Also, I have not failed to cry every time I read this story. Even after the first read, it is a beautifully written piece worth reading again and again.

Since it is a fairly short oneshot, I feel like this fic would be perfect to read aloud to someone to get their reaction, or your own, if it’s the first time. I also think that this fic is good to introduce someone to the fandom who likes angst and the Dream team side of MCYT. Also, have tissues ready for this one <3

I would not recommend music for this fic; I think that it’s short enough and sure to have you rapt to the point of not needing any background noise.

Jackpot by ceruleon

Word Count: 4,855

If you want to positively drown in lovely and colorful prose, this fic is perfect for you. Filled with nothing but amazing senses and color, Jackpot is a gorgeous angst and fluff fic based around lore with amazing balance and dialogue. The author clearly has a vision for each of Karlnapity’s characters, and the image that is displayed for each of them is confidently and wonderfully written.

Looking back at Jackpot and the High Stakes series it’s subsumed in, I realize that not one but two of my fics are heavily inspired by this series! The execution of emotion and description and story are all so lucidly written in this fic. My heart was also stolen by Karl in this one; he is very, very dear to me (on that note, I love how this author writes Karl period, so I encourage you to check out all their fics with Karl in it :3).

I read a lot of these fics on the list without music, but I feel like a little bit of soft, romantic music for this romantic fic could go a long way. Still, even without anything in the background, this fic paints so many enchanting pictures that you don’t need anything extra while reading.

I doubt that this one’s a tear-jerker, but you never know. It is pretty painfully sweet, though, and if that makes you emotional, then I think some tissues would be necessary, haha.

Iridescent Eyes by TwoozyZinc

Word Count: 4,451

In this humorously but beautifully written piece, we see through the eyes of Flint/Connor as Jack and Mason fall in love with a colorful stranger. The entirety of Iridescent Eyes hinges on an interrogation scene which quickly turns into flirting, and watching the pining happen from an outsider’s perspective is adorable, as well as done marvelously here.

I absolutely love the image of this dark cave with intimidating bandits talking to a bright, neon stranger. This fic paints that scene very well with lovely prose and also casual prose since it’s in Flint’s perspective. The combination of the two wordings makes this a solid read.

Be warned that the ending has quite an angsty conclusion, but I’ll be honest that it’s easily overlooked because of the fluff surrounding it, as well as a dear and hopeful ending. I didn’t cry during this fic, but given that it’s a Tales fic, I doubt that I could read this with a straight face anymore.

Iridescent Eyes is both heartwarmingly and heart-clenchingly good, and I think that it’s the perfect fic for when you’re craving Karlnapity and The Wild West story again. I’m not sure if music is necessary. It was fun enough to hear the characters’ voices in my head while I was reading xD.

This fic encapsulates everything my heart loves. It’s short and sweet with an air of levity in every word of dialogue but also utter depth that I adore. I love the headcanons slipped in and all the detail to the mannerisms. This author’s dialogue is a little humorous and a lot charming, and the scenario is so deeply amber with a lot of shading, for lack of better words other than colors. This fic simply feels like lovely, raw emotion, both in writing and in the scenario.

This fic is perfect for those wanting a soft moment that isn’t immensely emotional and yet is emotional all the while. Now, this is also kinda a niche thing, but my imagination is pretty selective when it comes to what I see in my mind, but this fic is unfailingly vivid to me in all its wording.

This is a cute and, again, short read, so no backing sound is necessary. I think a romantic song could be amplifying to this fic’s effect, though.

If you’re feeling a little emotional and need something comforting, I think that close watch on this heart of mine is a perfect little read.

I Hope That You Burn by elytralove

With gorgeously shifting emotions and beautifully described inner and outer turmoil alike, I Hope That You Burn captures a richly tender moment in reimagined canon wherein Karlnapity meet again in Kinoko, packed with heart-clenching, lovable emotion in every word. The scenario and cuddling afterward are to die for, and each moment in this fic hits strongly in different and powerful ways.

This fic is the perfect sort of story for when you’re feeling numb - as I was when I first read it and nearly cried. Seriously, out of everything that I was thinking, when I stumbled upon this fic, I dropped everything and was rapt. To this day, I remember that moment clearly.

I’m not sure what to say about background noise, but I think that this fic is written so well that you don’t even need anything. Whatever you do, though, I think that this story holds a fair chance to make you emotional, so be ready for that!

(Side note: I adore this author very much!! Their works are all incredibly heartfelt, so I’d recommend them as a whole to you! All their fics carry the same emotion and love, so please check them out if you have the time <3)

White Wine, Fine Dine And Everything On The Line by Deiohx

Word Count: 26,406

Oh my gosh. I feel like those were my first words when I was done reading this one, because oh my gosh. White Wine, Fine Dine And Everything On The Line takes a beautiful ride through Karlnapity’s lives through loveable characterization and a well-thought-out journey through Las Nevadas as the three rediscover their love.

I have to point out how much I enjoyed how this fic recounted on a handful of sexual headcanons, all of which I think really fit in with the characterization of Karlnapity. As a whole, this fic provides several fluffy moments and culminates with an angsty but sure resolution, and the entire story feels like a perfectly untold future canon. Despite the warnings I gave, also, I believe that this fic handles each topic very well.

I didn’t listen to anything while reading this one, but I think that a well-crafted playlist to fit each moment might add to this story. It’s still an engaging read without it, though! This fic is perfect for when you crave a resolution in canon <3

One final thing to note is that this fic has a number of obvious grammatical errors, but they’re all quite easily overlook-able as the story is quite good.

We Must Have Good Pitch, ‘Cause Baby, You and Me are So In Tune! by Quid_Pro_Cure

This fic is 5/5 dtkq-centric, but it’s told through Sapnap and focuses mostly on Karlnapity, so I had to include this fic in the list. Affectionately called So In Tune, this fic has many affectionate moments of its own and lovely and consistent characters that will have you hooked like a hook line (haha get it, because music has hooks- I’m sorry). I think that this author has a very good grasp on their writing style, and because of it, the story is very balanced and well told, honing in on both story and certain tender moments, all while progressing relationships with little to no angst; this fic is a gift.

The roles of each character will make you so endeared to each of them, and the unfolding of music through words alone is plain mind-blowing. Also, as a little side note, the author’s update notes before each chapter will be proof enough to how sweet this story is, Cure is an absolute dear (I encourage you to check out their other works, too! They have more Karlnapity ;))

The author also made a specially crafted playlist to go along with the mood of the fic; I recommend listening to it in the background as you read!

This story is another non-oneshot, also wanted to make that clear. And finally, I don’t think that I shed tears throughout the reading of this one, but it certainly has its emotional and very down-to-earth moments that I adore.

We’ve all heard of soulmate AUs, but how about soulmate geese AUs? you had me at hjönk is an endearing modern-day AU with only one fantastical element: the day you’re fated to meet your soulmate, a big, annoying goose leads you to your soulmate (or in this case, soulmates ;)). Bogged by the goose’s insistence, Quackity does his best to escape the creature and runs into a big mistake that ultimately ends up being, well, not a mistake.

With charmingly annoying geese and three souls colliding, this fic is an extremely cute and creative piece. I’d say that it’s best to read whenever; it’s so sweet, hilarious, and lovable all around. The fated one-on-one and eventual 3/3 moments are adorable, also.

This fic has such a great storyline that I don’t think any music is needed. Maybe your favorite upbeat song will do well with this one, but overall, it’s unnecessary.

If you’re in need of a little laughter and some good writing, this fic is for you!

Last but absolutely not least, Big Daddy. I have to be honest, a lot of what makes this fic for me is the second chapter. The first chapter, though, is a loveable misunderstanding story wherein Quackity flirts with Bad (this fic is probably my favorite take on the trope as it’s quite chaotic and funny). The second chapter, however, is a movie in itself where Karlnapity take a journey to the nether. It’s a lot more deeply written than I make it sound!

Big Daddy is no misnomer as this fic uses extensive hilarious similes and metaphors to vividly describe each important detail. The description is positively laugh-worthy and overall a great feel-good fic that hinges on adventure and characterization.

I don’t think that this fic requires anything else as I was laughing so much by the end of each chapter that I wouldn’t even slightly pay attention to any background noise. This story is truly a delightful read that does not feel as kinda-long as it is.

I’d recommend reading this when you’re in the mood for comedy! This fic has tons of comedic fluff and great writing to go with it.

In this adorable thread of posts/tweets, The Karlnapity Sims (which I have somewhat unofficially titled) series aims to mend the separation of current canon and rejoin Karlnapity… but in another timeline! With wonderfully designed characters and compellingly sweet events, the threads take you through captions and screenshots like a storybook fic.

Even though we all know the ending that the three get back together (hopefully), I love all the moments of them discussing polyamory, learning about each other, and all the little ups and downs before they get there. The story is currently unfinished but it’s adorable - so much so that I recommend this before it’s over!

This fic is a perfect pick-me-up if I were to describe it. The author’s captioning and commentary is easy to read and the dialogue is also quite cute. Overall, I can tell that a lot has gone into making this. I can only imagine how long it takes to compile screenshots and give each set a specific context, so kudos to the author (since I can only give likes)!

I don’t even consider music or anything when I read this series, it’s so cute and I think the engagement of both pictures and words is enough to have you hooked.

been thinking a lot about online identities.

it is interesting to me the level at which people will go to curate their online persona now-a-times. there’s a lot more focus on creating these vtuber/twitch “personas” with a 3d avatar that can emote, adding your own voice to the mix, and other things such as that. but at the same time there’s such an emphasis on doxxing, on the “face reveal”, on what someone looks like in real life. on real life identities, dramas, personal information being revealed, relationship and information on peoples’ partners, breakups, their family, real life friends, etc etc etc. it seems that kids are forming parasocial relationships with these youtubers and twitch personalities, thinking they are their personal close friends, donating actual money to these people, and then something gets dug up and the person is doxxed and cancelled. and then everybody takes their money and moves on to the next one.

back in my day, we usually identified ourselves with a simple online “handle” or URL and one 2d avatar and that was it. the focus was more on the content we were creating - writing, art. now it seems like the content that content creators make is more of an afterthought. i won’t say that let’s plays aren’t art, you have stuff like the dream smp which seems to have a bit of a lore and a story to it that makes it more than just watching some lads play minecraft, but at the same time... eh? maybe i’ve become too old. i don’t really get it.

as copyrights become more of a problem, people want to monetize their content. however, ip holders have a stranglehold on the internet. they don’t want anything monetized that doesn’t meet their “ethical and moral” standards which would damage their brand apparently if it came through that they were financially supporting something verboten. so in other words, it can’t be lgbt, you can’t swear, and it can’t be transformative in any way. only squeaky clean.

i have never and will never monetize my content because i write fic and a lot of the fic that i choose to write deals with heavy issues. so i’m out of this world of “content monetization”, i guess. what does it mean to become a brand? a persona? does this mean selling out? if chatgpt writes your copy and scripts and content, what does it mean? you’re an “online enterpreneur”? you’re an “influencer”? you’re a “disruptor”? you’re doing something significant? you’re improving peoples’ lives?

over time i truly start to hate this kind of landscape. i miss being surrounded by those who want to create for the sake of the process of creation. yes, i have this blog to shoot the shit, talk about my work, whatever, but creating this tumblr was never about “me” as a person. it was for me as a writer. of course this is a self indulgent place, for sure, but it was always about writing, from the very start. and i can’t seem to find as many people around who are interested in the same things. all they want to talk about is “monetization” and “content” and “personas“. i don’t know what that means. i’m not in that world. i’m not excited about ai writing things for me. overall, it’s not a good thing.

getting back to what i was saying re: doxxing and cancellation, i know that kids love this kind of schtick and if i were a teenager now, i’m sure i would be getting in on it too. it feels good to gang up against people when you’re a teen and i’m sure many of them think they’re doing the right thing within this culture but i still say things on the internet should be decoupled from real life hangups and drama and how people look in the meatspace. i don’t know it’s just silly. that being said, the kids are usually alright so i’m all for what teens think is the cool thing now as long as it’s positive. but i also think people should use their judgement and think independently more, not in a ben shapiro you-should-think-independently-by-buying-my-book type of way, but in a genuinely traditional you-should-look-at-different-sources-and-draw-your-own-conclusions-about-the-world type of way.

thems just my thoughts.

edit: also, this is dovetailing neatly with a very very disturbing general push in the zeitgest away from science and scientists (which is worse post-pandemic, dumbfucks saying the vaccine is poison etc) and into very very toxic anti-intellectualism which is leading some people back into religion fundamentalism. as someone who has experience with religious fundamentalists... this is not good juju

Rewatching “Remember,” a Ranboo/Benchtrio animation, lead to a New L’Manberg era ramble...

I always come back to it over and over again because I love it so much! The New L'Manberg era is one of my favorites because of how interesting the dynamics are between the characters and all the events that take place. Benchtrio's dynamics are especially fascinating because of everything they go through with all the pressure they are under. Which I will briefly go into (because I have too many thoughts about this and they demand to be written): - Content Warning! Discussion of manipulation and its effects ahead! - c!Tubbo - Tubbo’s striving to be the best president he can be for New L’Manberg after the prior two presidents harmful terms, but he is faced with all the difficult responsibilities/decisions that comes with that. The biggest/hardest one being whether to exile Tommy to protect New L’Manberg or keep Tommy and enter his country into another war with Dream. He isn’t even allowed a moment to consider his own thoughts/feelings about many issues because immediately Quackity and Fundy are throwing their opinions at him, and if he disagrees he is quickly compared to Schlatt. His self worth is already painfully low, but this comparison just adds a bucket of salt into that wound. Tubbo is under an excruciating amount of pressure. c!Tommy - Tommy is trying to process and understand so many things during this era, but no one is allowing him to do that healthy because they keep adding more trauma to the pile (namely Dream of course). He recently lost his older brother figure in a devastating event by said brother figure’s own actions. Tommy’s still trying to understand all the complicated emotions that are tangled up with that event and those leading up to it. One of those feelings is betrayal, which he experiences again when Tubbo ultimately chooses to exile him. Lots of stuff happens during exile and I can’t go into all of it right now, but what I’m trying to get at is that Tommy isn’t allowed to process everything that’s happened/is happening to him in a healthy way because Dream is manipulating him. c!Ranboo - Ranboo is a newer addition to the server at this time so he doesn’t have all the prior trauma that Tubbo and Tommy have with early L’Manberg, Manberg, and Pogtopia, etc. BUT he does not lack in his own struggles. Between his memory issues, enderwalking, being manipulated by Dream, his panic/anxiety, trying to help everyone out by not picking sides but people, etc. he is stressed. He is trying to maintain good relationships with everyone where he can support and help them as much as he can, but Dream (and other factors) are preventing him from achieving that. And it hurts. It hurts him to watch his friends hurt and not be able to do anything because of his own issues and/or because he thinks he might have caused that pain. ALSO let’s not forget that Tubbo, Tommy, and Ranboo are teenagers! All of them have so much pressure put on them as they try to navigate the hectic world around them. And they’re held to such high expectations to react to their traumatic experiences in a “grown up” way when they aren’t even adults. [Quick Disclaimer] I’ll be the first to admit that I need to revisit the original source material for this era because it has been awhile since I’ve watched it. Plus there are parts that I definitely missed in my watch throughs (because there is so much content), but I just had to share some of the thoughts I have stashed away about New L’Manberg. I’m sure there will be many more thoughts to come when I do revisit the streams for New L’Manberg because I’d love to expand on this even further! could potentially be another youtube video, who knows Anyways! New L’Manberg is such a fascinating era with SO much potential to be fleshed out even more by going beyond the limitations of Minecraft! We, as the fans, have the opportunity to give it more life and weight by filling in the quiet moments in-between all the major events we witnessed. Which is what I think @ariapmdeol was able to do with her wonderful animation “Remember.” She really captured what I love about the New L’Manberg era and I’m so glad I decided to revisit it tonight because it inspired me to share my many thoughts! OK SMALL RANT ABOUT THE QUACKITY THING

i think that he is intentionally doing something. he's being silly and planning things that would be cruel if outside of minecraft. he is acting like he doesn't know what is going on and he is being sly about it.

but i do NOT think it is intentionally to hurt. if anyone on the SMP's cast list actually wanted a break / thought this was too far they would SAY something. most of them are playing along. jaiden literally said something along the lines of "i need to grieve", she wants her character to suffer a bit, to experience emotions that may be cathartic.

ofc if there is no final resolution and it ends up like the DSMP's ending, yes that's kinda problematic, but like... i REALLY doubt quackity is being evil and WANTING suffering. he is just having fun developing a tragic story in minecraft and the gamers are gaming over it. even he himself seems to be acknowledging that it is getting tragic at times. he does encourage silliness and joy in the smp too, as far as i am aware. he does stupid things that make people laugh.

like. this is fun for the most part imo, evne if we are all sometimes sad and very attached to the eggs.

idk if this makes sense but. yeah !

Ok, i think it’s totally fucking wild that my absolutely favorite “crack” (taken seriously) theory is somewhat coming true ?? like the one i feel kinda actually emotional about! Srsly!

Like it’s def. not *my* version of the theory ofc, but *a* version! it’s the various creator’s version. but like good for them. and omg o m g.

and rambling about why i get emotional about, the idea, at least my version (i don’t want to put any weird pressures on the SMP creators or their version) and why i get emotional about the story too.

so, like, the crack idea (LOSAR’s version) is the idea that all the SMP roleplay servers are linked in a multiverse, though quite loosely. And also wrapped into my thoughts or ideas are some vague stuff about admin powers and mod powers and viewers - (and watcher / listener lore from Evo and 3rd Life being loosely tied to that)

so the main crack idea that’s kinda grown into this emotional thing, at least for me, (and it is Crack), is the whole joke bit video where Grian and Tommyinnit meet up, aka “I Tried to get Grian to Swear”, also known as “the one where they have a building competition” and also get weirdly posessively desirous about Mumbo Jumbo....

Anyway, the idea i had is it actually seems to fit well with other stuff with their HC and Dream SMP roleplay characters, and like they actually play off eachother surprisingly well there. And it’s a chance for both groups to see how “the other half” lives. and they have fun.

So the background of these people is that, oh boy, Tl:dr the relevant parts here is that HermitCraft SMP where Grian usually plays is.... you could call it upbeat, cheerful, and pranksterish but friendly, but not romantic at all. Pretty much anything of that aspect has to be Teen rating. And that includes explicit “straight” stuff too, btw. it’s like a friend molecule. Whereas the Dream SMP, where Tommy’s from, does have that aspect, many gay, straight, poly, marriages. and a lot of passion and genuine caring. also to put what you heard about bluntly, it may not be the worst.... Dream SMP is a hellhole. This is just to set the scene if you know nothing.

So anyway, (in the joke video i referenced, and in my story) this is a time when the two groups meet. And see how they live, and swap stories, and yes build a pair of cottagecore cottages for winner’s clout.

And (in my story at least) they see things in eachother. Grian sees how scarred Tommy is (and how annoying and weird to be around) but also how *passionate* and willing to express how he feels about Grian and Mumbo Jumbo, even if it’s in a little bit of a yandere stan way lol. (understatement)

While Tommy sees in Grian and Mumbo.... one: how absolutely power hungry they are. Like they really like to influence things, really. and that they are inhuman. And well... on the Dream SMP, neither fares very well really. If you’re power hungry (like Dream) you become everyone’s enemy. and there’s so many inhumans/part humans on the DSMP, but g d do they go through some hard times because of it, and can’t even talk to it with anyone. Ranboo is part enderman and has to deal with Follish killing other endermen in front of him and rain and snow burning hi,m. Philza is winged, but has his ability to fly stripped due to injury almost immediately upon joining the server. And yet - to Tommyinnit’s wise eyes - Mumbo and Grian are liked and respected on HermitCraft. wtf.

And ofc, the contest ends with Grian winning and taking Tommy’s prized elytra (a pair of minecraft wings) as a prize (this will be important later)

So just like Dream XD is Dream in admin form - a God in the minecraft world.... the two go off into Admin Mode (which side note, in my story is Watcher Mode for Grian)

And they go talk to Mumza.

And For the Third Life/Last Life/Double Life series - Grian institutes a loooot more passion. and also a LIMITED CANONICAL LIFE SYSTEM like they have in THE DREAM SMP. And finally gets a chance to cling to Scar and Mumbo (but at what cost? “I don’t feel too good about this”)

And for the ORIGINS SMP - Admin Tommyinnit, Tommy XD, institutes unlimited lives, sure, that dcan’t be understated, but also (maybe more importantly) free use of powers or abilities. yes! Elytras, shulkers, ender pearls, teleportation. Just like on HermitCraft. and also * the ability to talk about all this stuff *

(notice any patterns on what species people chose on origins? Tubbo starts as the most highly armed and armored species in the game, Phil has elytra wings, Ranboo is an enderman, Will a ghost, Niki was surrounded by fire, now she’s surrounded by water, Jack had to claw his way out of hell after dying in one of Tommy’s stupid wars on the DSMP and always resented him for it, now he starts in hell on the O SMP and has Tommy come to see him and help him get back.)

Anyway, and Tommy is an Avia, who doesn’t have full elytra and can’t fly but has (cute little) vestigial wings.

And who’s favorite jokingly annoyed phrase is “Phiiiil, i wanna fly like you phil!”

And Tommy’s also said that unlike the Dream SMP the disc thing doesn’t apply here.

So....

(now do you maybe start to see where the elytra comes in?)

On Dream SMP, Tommy gives his music discs away to Dream ( XD ) for everyone’s freedom. and constantly wants them back.

On ORIGINS SMP, planeswalker Admin Tommyinnit XD Gives his elytra to Grian (Watcher) for the ideas of the Origins SMP. And is like “I wanna fly like you Phil.”

(because if you notice, i think part of the “Tommy” personality in any universe, besides being selfish, and talking about girls, and talking shit to ppl, is being willing to give up things he cares about for his friends ).... (and oh boy, grian will take anything, anything that isn’t nailed down. )

But deep down I think he’s a little “happy” with both cases.

and i know this is a different multiverse thing. And i just like multiverses and planeswalkers in general.

But this is part of why i’m emotional about it, if i am.

(and why.... forget grian adopting tommy, how about i ship some Tommyinnit and Grian and Mumbo Jumbo) < 3

Yesterday, my lovely friend @whereisela and I got to discussing what our ideal ending to the Dream SMP would be, given the state of the SMP as it stands right now.

And I thought I’d share it. ❤

My main priorities are it being simple and also very happy. I love a good, cheesy ending!

So, my idea is basically that the egg takes over the SMP. It suddenly starts spreading really vigorously (maybe the egg hatches, I’m not picky over specifics) and infecting most of the server. Once possessed, they all start spreading blood vines everywhere, trying to consume the entire server and everyone in it.

Things look bad but the few survivors band together and start fighting back, in the form of trying to destroy all the red blocks. So you have the eggers spreading bloodvines and the uninfected taking them down in a nice minecraft friendly war.

Of course, the unegged are also trying to save the possessed members. They cut off vines near them and then they have to try and talk to them to break them out of the spell using the power of friendship, getting to remember the things they love and their friends. This works, as love is stronger than the egg’s control. Slowly everyone gets freed (and ideally it is the people they’re closest to who saves them, depending on if they’d plan out specific encounters like that for dramatic effect or leave it more to chance).

All the memorable locations from the SMP are covered in vines so they have to revisit all the old areas in saving the server and you get to see it slowly transform from red back to lovely greens and other colours as the unegged start to win. It’s like a loveletter to the server and how much it means to all the server members.

Dream was also egged but unlike everyone else, they fail to save him. His friends do try to get through to him but unfortunately the egg’s promise of power and control is too much for Dream who abandoned his attachments long ago and this is his demise. It’s emotional.

The rest of the server bands together and it takes all of them to finally destroy the egg once and for all but they do and everyone is saved. During the fight which can potentially last quite a while, you can have various members reconciling with each other and making amends as they all have to work together as friends. That can tie up a lot of the loose plot points and things.

And from there, you can go into your optimistic epilogue where they all enjoy the server that means so much to them, in essence saying goodbye (though the characters would be living happily ever after.) It’d be a fitting conclusion to it all.

We like this idea because it’s pretty straightforward, everyone can join in. If they want to do big emotional scenes some people can, while others might prefer to mostly play the game and they can also choose whether they want to be possessed by the egg or not. There’s some direction but plenty of room for improv, and anyone can stream but others could just make smaller cameos if they preferred. Also it’s really optimistic which I personally believe is just the kind of ending the SMP needs, and it’s thematically satisfying and hopefully a lot of fun.

We came up with a lot of more specific ideas within this scenario but this in any form would be wonderful. You can’t really go wrong with saving the world from a mind-controlling egg through the power of friendship.
