The pattern
(for someone who’s drifting)
Let’s say you’ve got something big you’re taking your kids to. Your friends are getting married. And they’re making it a family-friendly event.
Even so, it’s something your kids have never done before. So you try to help them out. By explaining to them what’s going to happen. How it’s going to go.
No questions at first. In the days to come, questions start to trickle in. You answer all of them.
And each time, you take the opportunity to tell them what’s going to happen. Again, and again.
The day of the wedding? It’s a complete surprise to them. Like you never said a thing.
Sound familiar? It does to Jesus.
In the months leading up to Good Friday, Jesus told His disciples what would happen to Him. Jesus answered their all questions. Even the weird ones from Peter. Again, and again.
Good Friday? It’s a complete surprise to them. Like Jesus never said a thing.
Much less told them that He was coming back.
How do I know this?
This week’s Gospel readings. Not a single disciple of Jesus is thinking about what Jesus told them would happen. No one is having a lightbulb moment, going “oh, that’s what Jesus was talking about.”
Instead, some of them are hiding in fear. Others are giving up and walking home.
Those closest to Jesus? That’s today’s Gospel.
They bailed out. They’re back at their old jobs. Like none of it ever happened.
The only constant? Jesus.
And the way that Jesus responds. To each of them, to all of them.
Jesus doesn’t wait for any of them to figure it out. Or even remember what He told them.
The ones in hiding? Jesus hides with them.
The ones walking home? Jesus walks with them.
The ones back at their old jobs? Jesus goes to work with them.
It’s a pattern with Jesus.
Jesus loves them too much to wait for them to figure it all out.
Instead, Jesus is seeking them out. Right where they are.
Sound familiar? It should.
Because Jesus sees you and me the same way.
No matter what you’re doing. Or not doing. No matter how much your normal has been upended. No matter what direction you’re headed off in.
Even if you gave up.
Jesus loves you much to wait for you to figure it all out.
Instead, Jesus is seeking you out. Right where you are.

I saw this on FB today and I wanna try and express something about it. Like, you know the curbcutter effect? Where when curbcuts are put in it benefits everyone (bicyclists, people with baby strollers etc) and not just disabled people?
There is also whatever the opposite of the curbcutter effect is. And this is that.
This isn't just anti-adhd/autism propaganda... this is anti-child propaganda.
Kids have developmentally appropriate ways that they need to move their bodies and express themselves and sitting perfectly still staring straight ahead is not natural or good for ANY CHILD.
Don't get me wrong, I was punished unduly as a kid for being neurodivergent (and other types of kid will ALSO be punished unduly for it... Black kids come to mind) and thus UNABLE to perform this -- but even the kids who ARE able to perform this type of behavior are not SERVED WELL by it. They don't benefit from it.
This is bad for everyone.
The idea that bc some kids may be capable of complying with unfair expectations, those expectations don't hurt them... is a dangerous idea. Compliance isn't thriving. Expectation of compliance isn't fair treatment.

idk how many of you remember this but a few years ago tumblr ran a universally panned ad campaign for (us american) pride month that went "the gayest place on the internet".
well someone planning that campaign dropped in to ask the queer automatticians for advice on that and universally me and the other trans people involved were like "don't do it. i am so serious. don't do it. people on tumblr won't understand that it wasn't automattic who instituted the porn ban, or they will, but they'll recognize that automattic hasn't done anything, hands tied or not, to reverse it. nobody will like this. it will be a disaster." and they thanked us for our thoughts and went ahead with it anyway and then had to do retrospectives about how badly it went and were like "we just didn't know" and [gestures] yeah
[edit: i think the person who rbed saying it was queerest place on the internet was right, my brain is fried, sorry! and that's... even worse lmao]

“Adam finally sat down on one of the pews. Laying his cheek against the smooth back of it, he looked at Ronan. Strangely enough, Ronan belonged here, too, just as he had at the Barns.
This noisy, lush religion had created him just as much as his father's world of dreams; it seemed impossible for all of Ronan to exist in one person. Adam was beginning to realize that he hadn't known Ronan at all. Or rather, he had known part of him and assumed it was all of him. The scent of Cabeswater, all trees after rain, drifted past Adam, and he realized that while he'd been looking at Ronan, Ronan had been looking at him.”
