At long last, part 7 of my RF4 child redesigning project!
This time we’re on the bachelorettes, starting with Clorica!
For Clorica, we have Beau!
Again, name doesn’t mean much, just one that I thought was cute.
Beau is a grumpy, sleepy boy. Unlike his mother he isn’t so happy even when he’s tired, and oftentimes runs off to find a quiet, dark spot to fall asleep. He’s usually found curled up in a strange closet, snoring away. Beau dresses in a way that is comfortable so he can sleep at a moment’s notice.
He isn’t mean in anyway, just moody most of the time. When he was very little he was more joyful and precious, but as he’s getting older and has more responsibilities he finds he needs to use more of his energy and can’t have leisurely naps all day. Beau is a bit of a night owl, and ends up staying up at night to get chores done that he didn’t bother with before. He does want to help people and be kind, and doesn’t intend to lash out at anyone that wakes him up.
I went for a sleepy look for Beau, and wanted to use more of Clorica’s color scheme. There isn’t too much behind his design other than being a precious, sleepy boy.
Sorry if this looks a little weird from the first half of kids! I haven’t drawn anything in a month and this is the first full piece I’ve worked on in a while!
Next will be Margaret!

Winter prompts! Hmmm... what about Decorating and Vishnal (and the rest of the butler squad if you feel inclined)
I see what you did there! I'll have you know I played some RF4 this week, hehe. Butler Squad, roll out! I had a lot of fun with this one. Thank you for the ask!
Winter Themed Prompts - Asks are open!
Vishnal wasn’t sure how many times he had attempted to hang the pine boughs, but the muscles in his arms were screaming from constantly adjusting the garland.
This is just part of of the job. A good butler should never complain about any sort of discomfort.
He furrowed his brow.
Power through – no one else is complaining.
He felt sweat roll into his eyes as he climbed down the ladder to observe his handiwork. After wiping his face carefully on his handkerchief (after all, a butler should be as pristine as his castle), he stared at the greenery, frowning and turning his head.
“What do you think, Clorica?”
She blinked rapidly, straightening her posture. “Oh? The garland? It looks fine to me,” she replied with a heavy yawn.
He tilted his head, biting his lip. “It’s not perfect.”
“It’s not going to be exactly symmetrical with natural branches, though. That’s part of what makes it so pretty.” She continued placing delicate glass ornaments in the large glass vase before her. It wasn’t long before she closed her eyes, her hands deftly placing the shiny baubles in various containers.
Vishnal was about to chide her for “resting her eyes” as she liked to call it, when a booming voice emerged from the hallway.
“Has Vishnal finally finished that doorway yet?” The scent of spiced tea preceded the head butler. Volkanon had been busy with his specialty brew, still donning a spotless apron.
Snapping to attention, he turned to face him. “Y-Yes, Sir!” He held his breath as his boss appraised his handiwork.
The pine boughs had been hung around the door frame carefully, and an elegant wreath adorned the door, complete with a stylish and lavish bow.
“Not bad, but do you intend on leaving the area above the door so bare? This is our special guest’s room we’re talking about.”
Vishnal felt his cheeks flame. “O-Of course, I’ll fix it right away!”
After much precise measuring and several trips up and down ladders, two matching bows were placed at the top corners of the door frame.
Clorica clapped her hands with delight. “Aw, how cute! It kinda resembles Frey’s hair, doesn’t it?”
He let out an audible gasp. “Oh, no! I’ll have to take it down, and…”
“Aw, I like it.” Clorica’s voice had a sad tone to it. “Although, it would look nice with some ornaments spread throughout, and maybe it could use something for a centerpiece?”
Clorica sleepily shuffled through a box and produced a ball of greenery adorned with white berries. “She’ll be sure to like this!”
Glancing at Clorica’s pristine handiwork, he had a feeling that Clorica’s taste was more refined than his own. Thanking her profusely, he climbed the ladder again, hanging the final adornment as Clorica helped him center it. Volkanon’s commanding request for them to try the tea (which both butlers knew would take longer than a mere sampling) left Vishnal scurrying to finish the work, dropping and shattering one of the ornaments in the process. Clorica promised to buy some time for him as she went to Volkanon.
Sweeping the mistake off of the floor, Vishnal silently berated himself.
It looks like I still have a long way before even becoming a semi-decent butler… Why can’t I stop screwing things up?
A delighted squeal caught his attention. He turned his head to see Frey staring at the hall, her mittened hands over her heart as her jaw dropped.
“Wow… this is gorgeous!”
A smile crossed his lips before he knew it; Frey’s excitement always gave him that effect. “It was a group effort, and I’m glad that you enjoy it!”
“Enjoy it? I love it!” She whirled around, taking in the sights, her long pigtails moving with her. “Ah, and my door! It’s so pretty!” She stood in the doorway, looking up at the ornaments.
Vishnal set his broom against the wall and wrung his hands, his heart pounding. “I’m so glad you like it, Princess.”
Her eyes traveled toward the centerpiece hanging above her and her face went scarlet. “You did this?”
“I had some suggestions, but I assembled it.”
She shyly looked down at her boots. “Thank you. I really like it. Um… if you’re available, will you wake me tomorrow morning?” She looked back up at the mistletoe ball, not meeting his gaze.
“Of course! You can count on me!” His cheeks hurt from grinning.
“Well, it’s been a long day. I think I’m going to turn in early and have a cup of hot tea.”
“Tea?!” Vishnal’s eyes widened as he remembered Clorica stalling for him. “Ah, I forgot that I’m supposed to meet with Volkanon. Have a good night, Princess, and sleep well.” He flashed her a smile as he hurried down the hallway.
Frey clung to the door frame, watching him leave. Her face flushed deeply, but the winter chill had nothing to do with it.

What are your headcanon ages for the main character, bachelors, and bachelorettes from Rune Factory 4?
oh my gosh I started answering this like a week ago and then it fell through one of the swiss cheese holes in my brain. Sorry Nonny!
I don't really have any hard headcanons about the rf4 character ages, and really what I do have is just kind of a general age range for them. But if you're curious about how the characters read to me maturity-wise I'll tell you.
Frey/Lest - I think they're in their early 20s, somewhere between 19-23 at the beginning of the game. the amnesia helps them have a bit more of the "youthful innocence" that just comes as being that age. Like you can clearly tell they're grown and responsible enough to have been given the story-compelling mission in the first place, but that also have the energy and optimism of someone who still sees the world as completely open to possibilities without as much of the "i need to have my shit together" vibes an older 20-something might have
Amber and Kiel are the ones I headcanon as the youngest, and they both give me very strong late-teens/babey adult vibes. I don't see them any older than 19 at the beginning of the game. And depending on when in the RF world society would consider someone a Full Adult TM, it can change the lower end of that age range, so even to 16 or 17. They're not children, but they're still kids, if that makes sense. They both still have "parental" figures in their lives so they're not entirely independent as an older adult might be.
Forte, though I actually don't think is too much older than Kiel, she's maybe just a few years older than him. So about the same age as Frey/Lest, early 20s, no older than 25. I think given her family history and her general character she was definitely the girl who had to grow up too fast and has acted more mature than other kids her age needed to. So she can very easily be read as older, but I think there's enough clues in her dialogue and her character to show that she's younger than she wants people to perceive her as.
I get the same general age range from Vishnal and Clorica too, 19-25 though probably closer to college ages. Vishnal I think is the younger of the two butlers. Their roles as apprentices and the fact that they're still in training tells me they're probably still rather young adults. I imagine butler training of the caliber they're going through is a 4-6 year ordeal and I imagine they would have started in their late teens/early 20s, much like most people choosing a career path.
Xiao Pai and Doug are the last of the under 25s. It's hard to know Doug's precise age, given he's not human and dwarves are long-lived in the RF world. So while he might look and act like a hot-headed 19-22 year old, he might be 60-70 years old. They've never really spelled out the lifetimes of the non-human races. Xiao Pai I tend to read as on the younger end of her 20s, but given the way she acts and her general clumsiness (which are often associated with younger people) she could also be older than that. It's hard to say.
Margaret is another one of those ambiguously ages characters, being an elf, we don't actually know how old she is. But I definitely read her as an adult in her mid-late 20s. I think she's the eldest-coded bachelorette, so I could even see her as a 30-something. (I genuinely don't think any of the bachelorettes are supposed to be older than 30 because god knows the developers would have had them complaining about being an old maid and a spinster 🙄) She just reads as a character who has had much more worldly experience than the younger girls, and yeah, some of that can be attributed to the fact that she's had Decades more time and lots of freedom than the others, but she also feels more settled into life and adulthood than a younger character would.
Dolce I think is mid-20s. I can't really explain it, but she just gives me "I'm 25 and I've finally felt my brain chemistry solidify" vibes. I do think what she went through in her life, as well as dealing with an eternally youthful and chaotic spirit of Pico probably made her act more mature than she was, much like Forte, but I also do think she's just a little bit older than most of the other marriage candidates in town.
Dylas and Arthur I think are around the same age, mid-20s. Arthur I could push to late-20s, but there's something about his character that makes me go "oh no, he still has that independent streak of the young 20s" I do think his upbringing also forced maturity onto him at a younger age than would otherwise be expected, but he also took on responsibilities that people might not expect someone so young to do (he also shirked the responsibilities he didn't want to do, so again that independent/rebellious streak) Dylas I think acts younger than he really is, though he's really not all that old. I think he got to spend a several years living as an adult in his original time before becoming a guardian, though he didn't really see himself as 'grown' back then and that carried over to how he behaves in game (with additional traumas)
Which brings us to Leon as the last, I think. He's the one I could possibly see being the oldest of all the bachelors, late-20s to early-30s. In his life before becoming a guardian he has established a whole vocation and had been in it long enough to become a high-ranking priest. Even if he had started his vocational training as a young teen, I don't think he could have gotten as far without spending a good portion of his 20s working at it.

The first character I first fell in love with: Melody. I loved her cute vibes when I first saw her in RF1, I loved them in Frontier, and I continue to do so now... It’s a really sweet aesthetic okay??
The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Clorica. I just kinda- Like. I get it. I empathize. I too am tired all the time and sometimes don’t have my act together. We can bond over this, surely.
The character everyone else loves that I don’t: You know, I don’t know much about RF as a fandom, and i don’t know who is ‘popular’ to other people so I’ll just go ahead and say that Iris never really made a big impression on me.
The character I love that everyone else hates: Again. I don’t know who people in the fandom hate. Buuuuut if I had to guess, I could imagine some people not really liking Sofia’s initial attitude, but I really grew to like her character!
The character I used to love but don’t any longer: How dare?
The character I would totally smooch: Like- The entire cast of RF3? Plz? Barring that, Felicity. She deserves the best in life.

Dolce/Clorica: Established Relationship

Clorica yawned in the bright light of of the summer day. It was sweltering, and although she’d dressed down into her swimsuit, with her toes in the water of the lake, it didn’t quite break the oppressive heat of the day. She sighed.
“Hot days make me sleepy,” she sighed to Dolce, beside her. She was knitting a open stitch shawl that still seemed too warm for the weather. Dolce quirked her mouth into a small smile.
“You’re always sleepy,” she said. Clorica considered arguing that, but it seemed like a lot of work. Instead, she turned onto her belly, allowing the sun to hit her back. It was a biting sting, and she was sure that she was going to burn despite her sunscreen.
They stayed like that for a time, Clorica dozing, and Dolce knitting. Halfway into a nap, Clorica decided she had enough of the sunlight, and turned to Dolce.
“You wanna swim?” she asked.
“No, you go ahead.”
“You sure?”
“Yeah.”
Clorica chewed the inside of her cheek. “But it’s not as fun without you.”
Dolce stopped mid-stitch, and looked to her girlfriend. She sighed.
“Very well.”
She placed her knitting aside, and Clorica stood with her. They tested the cool, clear water, slowly making their way out. The difference between the hot sun and the coldness of the water was a shock, but a welcome one. Once Clorica made her way out to where her feet could no longer touch the bottom, she sighed happily, treading water.
“See isn’t that better?” she asked. Dolce smiled.
“I suppose so.”
“It so is,” Clorica giggled. She swam closer to Dolce, and kissed her on the cheek.
“You’re it!” she cried, and swam off. Dolce paused for a moment, before swimming after her, an intent look on her face.
They carried on like that, Clorica only allowing Dolce a certain distance before swimming off, giggling. Dolce laughed every time she almost caught her, water drops dripping off her eyelashes, and Clorica felt a rush of affection for her. When Dolce grew close again, she swam towards her, grabbing her and kissing her proper, slow and sweet. A warmth spread through her that couldn’t be attributed to the sun, starting in her toes and up into her belly.
“You’re it,” Dolce smirked, as they pulled apart.
“I love you,” Clorica replied instead. Dolce splashed her lightly.
“I love you, too.”

Clorica/Margaret: Established Relationship

Clorica laid on the floor, listening to the tinging sound of Margaret plucking at her lute. A soft, gentle melody followed the notes as she sung the opening to her song, her voice lifting delicately, making Clorica smile into her arm. The sun played with her hair, warming her to the core as she drifted between sleep and wakefulness, not sure if she wanted to succumb just yet, and lose a moment of Margaret’s silken voice.
“A height like no other,
no mean to be a bother,
but it would be grand,
if you’d take me by the hand.
If the tides came like wishes,
I’d swim like the fishes,
in the bay of your--Ugh!”
A sour note, and Margaret’s cry of frustration jolted Clorica out of her doze. She rubbed at her eyes, looking up at her love.
“What’s wrong? I liked it,” she said. Margaret fiddled with her lute, chewing on her bottom lip.
“It’s cliche, and I hate it,” she responded. With another grunt of frustration, Margaret dropped the instrument and flopped out of her chair to the floor. Clorica shuffled closer, laying her head on Margaret’s back as the other woman rubbed her temples.
“Maybe you should try working on something else?” Clorica yawned. Margaret simply shook her head.
“No,” she sighed, “this song has gone unfinished for too long. Besides, I expect these things to be rough. If writing about love was easy, I might as well write about ice cream.”
“Ice cream sounds good,” Clorica mumbled. The other woman laughed. She slowly shifted their position, so Clorica was no longer laying her head on her back, and instead resting on her chest, with her arms tangled around her. She breathed in the scent of her, and Clorica giggled.
“Do you think I’m washed up?” Margaret joked, pressing a kiss to Clorica’s cheek.
“Hmm, I’d have to hear the rest of the song to tell,” the other woman responded, tilting Margaret’s face to hers, catching her lips in a sweet, lazy kiss. Margaret hummed into the embrace.
“Then I guess I should get back to work,” she said. Clorica smiled, slow and full of meaning.
“Don’t hurry,” she whispered. “Let me be your inspiration.”
They fell into each other, the way a chorus fell into a refrain. Margaret’s lute lay forgotten for a while as the two composed a symphony all of their own. Hours later, with Clorica sleeping beside her, Margaret ran her fingers through her hair, imagining it was the strings of her lute, humming to herself. Maybe writing love songs was so hard because the perfect words rarely rhymed. She knew in her heart, there would never be a couplet that could contain all her feelings, no harmony that could make her heart soar like her love did, but if she could capture the way Clorica’s eyelashes fluttered as she slept in a melody, she would never want another song ever composed. She reached for her lute, plucking the strings gently. Her mind drifted into a cloud of lyrics, about sweet, slow kisses and ice cream melting in the sun. It was incomprehensible, but, she supposed, so was love. Beside her, Clorica shifted.
“Sounds like sunshine,” she commented through a yawn. Margaret beamed.
“Now I just need words,” she replied. Clorica looked at her through hooded eyes.
“Not always,” she said.
And it was true.
