In light of things discussed in a certain recent post I've been reconsidering the fact that I may indeed have trouble fully getting that people can lie to me and have a tendency to find it really hard to shake the belief that someone who seems genuine probably on some level is even when that clashes with their behaviour. So I'm going to check how well my intuitions of how people work generally when it comes to lying/manipulation against other people's via the most reliable data collection process ever, tumblr polls.

Which requires a long preamble defining my terms because there's too much nuance to fit inside a poll option, so: for the poll I'm going to define two types of manipulation, Type A and Type B. Type A is the classic cold calculating and premeditated, fully conscious of what they're doing and what they're faking type. Type B is someone who doesn't consciously consider themselves manipulative but is subconsciously driven to do manipulative things because they know on some level it will get them things they want; either fully convinced of their own genuineness, or just don't really think about it. Generally impulsive and incentive driven. (Some people might not consider Type B manipulation; I do from the perspective of result counts more than intent and they are at least subconsciously seeking that result but also I'm not here to quibble about that kind of definition).

Also, general masking/feigning politeness/hiding or faking emotions for social acceptance does not count as manipulation here; I'm only talking about concerted psychological attacks on someone, probably to get something more specific than acceptance.

Edited extra nuance: since someone correctly pointed out the same person can be capable of either, my question is less to do with classifying individual people by what they're capable of, and more to do with what you think is more likely to be going on in any given instance of manipulation.

aslan frequently wears daniel's clothes ! daniel's ravenclaw ones mostly because hes a slytherin and its just out of place enough and he swears they're more comfortable, the scarf aslan's wearing in the picture is daniels !!

ever since his parents were sent to prison he and esme have been staying with aslan's family over breaks and holidays, they both have their own rooms there too :]

aslan meticulously takes inventory of daniel's potion ingredients, he makes sure to restock every time he notices the other being low on something!!

aslan's shorter than daniel slightly until 5th year when he isn't anymore

contrary to popular belief the two aren't joined at the hip and are often just doing their own thing, they're both frequently asked where the other is though ! expected to see one with the other even when they aren't actually by each other's side as often as people think

daniel's mother taught aslan how to cook and now he makes him some of the recipes she gave whenever he misses her <3

aslan confesses at the end of 4th year but they don't actually get together until 6th year ! there's a very long explanation for this but ..!

You’re all getting another unpromted headcanon dump because I’m very personally tired of the “Mario would hide his struggles and trauma post Movie from Luigi because he doesn’t want to look weak and keep up the appearance of the Strong Older Brother” take. Don’t Eldest Daughter Syndrome Mario. He and Luigi are a team. A pair. He would tell Luigi everything.

Anyway here’s everything I think Mario personally struggles with and would rely on Luigi for

The Mario movie put it very blatantly on the table that Mario’s a little touchy about his height. It’s probably more so because he’s use to being picked on as The Short Guy on the sports team rather than it really actually bothering him all that much. He’s just assumes someone calling him short is an insult. The only personal problem he has with it is being shorter than Luigi. They spent a lot of their childhood the same height, and Luigi being taller still messes them both up from time to time

This is another left over from Highschool; Mario and Luigi (accidentally) kind of fell into the trope of the Smart twin and the Sporty twin, with Mario being the ladder. This messed with his head in a way he couldn’t really articulate, being expected to be a Meathead like the other guys on his sports teams did actually cause his grades to go down, especially in Math which use to be his best subject, which of course caused a lot of concerned backlash from their parents, especially his dad. Now he has it locked in his brain somewhere he’s stupid when he’s not.

He’s bad with people. Luigi’s a lot more of a people person than he is. He has a hard time connecting to people, or making simple small talk. He can be pretty blunt, or awkward, and maybe a bit aggressive sounding, especially to someone not use to how loud and confidently he speaks. As he gets older he gets quieter, speaks less, falls into a much more comfortable selective mute life style, and it suits him much better than trying to fumble through talking to people. He prefers to listen

He’s definitely a workaholic, he’d gotta be busy busy busy all the time. A lot of people will see him run from one project to the next, never turning down a request for help with something, constantly juggling tasks and working on something in his spare time and think it’s all because he’s such a nice, hard working guy. But no. It’s the stress of not doing enough. Or because he anxious being alone. Luigi’s the only one who knows Mario will keep going till he crashes, and is the one to always stop him and remind him he’s doing enough, he’s enough. Take a break.

Mario’s always struggled with separation anxiety. He’s never been one for the whole concept of “alone time”, he’d much rather be near people he loves and trusts and can relax around. He use to joke it stems from being born first, those few moments before Luigi was born was more than enough alone time for a life time. He tries to wave it off occasionally, but it really is a problem. If he is ever left alone, say Luigi goes off on some grand adventure without him, he finds things to work on until he passes out, and then just sleeps and lays about until Luigi comes back.

This might be a very strange post since I neither post often and I've only been on booklr once,

Does anyone have any non romance fantasy book?

I've seen a lot of romance fantasy books and personally I'm aroace so romance isn't exactly my type of thing. However I still want to see badass people fighting a dragon while in cool ass clothes.

As a payment have a book series I adore that while does have romance, it's not the main focus until the end of book 2.

Seraphina and Shadow Scale, By Rachel Hartman.

ADDING BEFORE I GO AND SLEEP

The books are extremely good, focusing more on family and conflict then any type of romance. Dragons are everywhere, humans and dragons fighting, and dragon on dragon fighting. It is slow at the beginning however, it goes extremely quick very suddenly and grabs your attention like it's choke holding you.

Seraphina also has very much gay people and gay rights in this. Shadow Scale explores more of that with a few charecters since we'll, it's on the less romance side of little to no romance. It is extremely sweet too. So Eee

Seraphina is an amazing book which I havent seen a lot for but is an amazing book.

I do hope the sacrifice works for the non romance fantasy books

okay okay "like the dawn." goodness. that's about adam and eve. that's the creation story. are the oh hellos a christian group, or do they just use christian themes? either way i should listen to more of them.

a couple unrelated-ish thoughts about this song.

first, i love the connection to adam and eve: jonathan and mina being made for each other. god created eve for adam so that he wouldn't be lonely. it's not good for people to be lonely. and i love that theme in jonmina. they share everything with each other, they know each other so well, they were built to be together.

next, i like the imagery of jonathan waking up to find mina from the first verse. it's so lovely. and i like the idea of him being in this brain fog, not really sure what's going on, mostly just lost in his own mind ... and suddenly, there's mina, shining through like the sun, waking him up.

kinda like the first verse: bones of my bones and flesh of my flesh. wowzers. again i love how much they are together. there's another verse in genesis, i think it's around the creation story? it says that a man will leave his family, and woman will leave hers, and they will become one body, basically. i really love that for jonathan and mina especially tho cause their families are already gone.

yes good song i am obsessed.

and "work song." i like the lyrics you pointed out: "and i was burning up a fever/i didn't care much how long i lived/but i swear i thought i dreamed her/she never asked me once about the wrong i did." i love mina being concerned and worried and curious, wanting to know where the hell her fiance was for two months, but still just letting him recover, knowing that if he wants to share that with her, he will. (and knowing that he will want to share that with her.)

i also really liked some of the lines at the end! "if the lord don't forgive me/i'd still have my baby and my babe would have me/when i was kissing on my baby/and she put her love down soft and sweet/in the low lamp light i was free/heaven and hell were words to me." mmmmmmmm holiest love strikes again <3 i particularly like "in the low lamp light i was free."

but yea, this snippet is from the chapter where Steve and Dustin finally meet for the first time!! they're driving from Steve's to Dustin's house and transitions into a recount of the scene in the car from canon

Steve set the nail-bat in the trunk before getting in and putting in the tape, playing from where he left off and turning to Dustin.

“Okay so.. your house?”

“Yeah, it's by the school. I'll give you directions when we get close.”

He nodded and pulled back out onto the road.

“Also, just to warn you, D’art is kinda… aggressive. And he looks pretty scary, but he was really cute and sweet when he was tiny so I don’t know why he’s so mean now but-” he cut himself off.

Steve raised an eyebrow.

“But?” he prompted. Dustin took a breath.

“It might be because he’s hungry.”

What the fuck.

There was silence for a moment as he tried to process what Dustin was implying.

“Wait a sec, how big is he??”

“First he was like that,” he said, showing size with his pointer finger and thumb, “Now he’s like this.” He held up both hands a good foot and a half apart. That was hard to believe.
