Juneteenth is a Black American holiday.
We call Juneteenth many things: Black Independence Day, Freedom Day, Emancipation Day, Jubilee Day. We celebrate and honor our ancestors.
December 31 is recognized as Watch Night or Freedom’s Eve in Black American churches because it marks the day our enslaved ancestors were awaiting news of their freedom going into 1863. On January 1, 1863, President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation. But all of the ancestors wouldn’t be freed until June 19, 1865 for those in Galveston, Texas and even January 23, 1866 for those in New Jersey (the last slave state). (It’s also worth noting that our people under the Choctaw and Chickasaw Nations wouldn’t be freed until April 28, 1866 and June 14, 1866 for those under the Cherokee Nation by way of the Treaties.)
Since 1866, Black Americans in Texas have been commemorating the emancipation of our people by way of reading the Emancipation Proclamation and coming together to have parades, free festivities, and later on pageants. Thereafter, it spread to select states as an annual day of commemoration of our people in our homeland.
Here’s a short silent video filmed during the 1925 Juneteenth celebration in Beaumont, Texas:
youtube
(It’s also worth noting that the Mascogos tribe in Coahuila, Mexico celebrate Juneteenth over there as well. Quick history lesson: A total of 305,326 Africans were shipped to the US to be enslaved alongside of American Indians who were already or would become enslaved as prisoners of war, as well as those who stayed behind refusing to leave and walk the Trail of Tears to Oklahoma. In the United States, you were either enslaved under the English territories, the Dutch, the French, the Spanish, or under the Nations of what would called the Five “Civilized” Native American Tribes: Cherokee, Creek (Muscogee), Chickasaw, Choctaw, and Seminoles. Mascogos descend from the Seminoles who escaped slavery during the Seminole Wars, or the Gullah Wars that lasted for more than 100 years if you will, and then settled at El Nacimiento in 1852.)
We largely wave our red, white and blue flags on Juneteenth. These are the only colors that represent Juneteenth. But sometimes you may see others wave our Black American Heritage flag (red, black, and gold).
Juneteenth is a day of respect. It has nothing to do with Africa, diversity, inclusion, immigration, your Pan-African flag, your cashapps, nor your commerce businesses. It is not a day of “what about” isms. It is not a day to tap into your inner colonizer and attempt to wipe out our existence. That is ethnocide and anti-Black American. If you can’t attend a Black American (centered) event that’s filled with education on the day, our music, our food and other centered activities because it’s not centered around yours…that is a you problem. Respect our day for what and whom it stands for in our homeland.
Juneteenth flag creator: “Boston Ben” Haith
Tumblr media
It was created in 1997. The red, white and blue colors represent the American flag. The five-point star represents the Lone State (Texas). The white burst around the star represents a nova, the beginning of a new star. The new beginning for Black Americans.
Black American Heritage Flag creators: Melvin Charles & Gleason T. Jackson
Tumblr media
It was created in 1967, our Civil Rights era. The color black represents the ethnic pride for who we are. Red represents the blood shed for freedom, equality, justice and human dignity. Gold fig wreath represents intellect, prosperity, and peace. The sword represents the strength and authority exhibited by a Black culture that made many contributions to the world in mathematics, art, medicine, and physical science, heralding the contributions that Black Americans would make in these and other fields.
Tumblr media
SN: While we’re talking about flags, I should note that Grace Wisher, a 13-year-old free Black girl from Baltimore helped stitched the Star Spangled flag, which would inspire the national anthem during her six years of service to Mary Pickersgill. I ain’t even gon hold you. I never looked too far into it, but she prob sewed that whole American flag her damn self. They love lying about history here until you start unearthing them old documents.
In conclusion, Juneteenth is a Black American holiday. Respect us and our ancestors.

Daily update post:
Another independent Palestinian terrorist attack happened today, it was another stabbing, much like yesterday's, and I feel nauseous that we're at the point where, when I'm looking for an online source in English, I'm struggling to find the latest one out of all the terrorist attacks reported recently. I heard an eyewitness say the terrorist entered a cafe, stood in line, then started stabbing those standing in front of him. The terrorist is a 22 years old Israeli Arab, originally a Gazan. From what I understand, his dad is a Gazan who married an Israeli Arab woman, both men got Israeli citizenship, and the terrorist has lived in Israel for the last 4 years, during which he married an Israeli woman, like his dad. On his mother's side of the family, he has two relatives who are Israeli heroes: one is a soldier, who died not that long ago fighting in Gaza, another is a cop, who saved several people from the Hamas massacre at the Nova music festival. I've heard now 2 Israeli Arab citizens from the community where he lived denouncing him. The terrorist was neutralized. At least 2 people are reported injured, one man in his 60's is lightly wounded, another is in his 50's. One man (in a white shirt with stripes in the vid below) at the cafe saw the terrorist and jumped him with bare hands. Stripes Man kept trying to detain the terrorist until he saw one of the wounded managed to pull out a gun, Stripes Man moved out of the way, the injured one shot more than once and stopped the terrorist, but outside he collapsed, and was hospitalized in a mortal state.
The global rise in antisemitic incidents under the guise of anti-Zionism continues, this time we get insane news from Australia. I'm just gonna quote the report directly: "Two pro-Palestinian activists in Australia were charged on Tuesday with kidnapping and assaulting a victim for the perceived crime of being employed by a Jew."
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, the Holocaust memorial at the transit camp of Drancy, through which the Jews of France were deported to their extermination in the east, was vandalized. I'll say it again, the timing is not a coincidence, as we see more and more antisemitic incidents, it's clear each one will get less attention, and less resources allocated to correcting the wrong, since it's all being spread so thin.
Tumblr media
I wrote yesterday about a pilot program, which is one of many attempts by Israel to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza without about 60% of it being hijacked by Hamas. I'm sad to say that the pilot has failed, and the aid has been looted. Interestingly, it's not clear by whom. Which is many a good moment to add this: in addition to Hamas taking over the aid, so do existing Gazan mob families (presumably, the criminals are taking over the aid in order to sell it back to regular Gazans at exploitative prices).
Tumblr media
A South African minister has announced that her country will be arresting all citizens of South Africa returning from fighting for Israel in Gaza. I do not recall any such announcement regarding South Africans returning from fighting for either side in any other area in the world, such as Ukraine or Syria. I think there's a chance we're watching South Africa ethnically cleansing itself of Jews.
Tumblr media
These are Israeli-American mother Judith Raanan and her teenage daughter Natalie.
Tumblr media
About a month after the start of the war, they were the first 2 Israeli hostages to be released by Hamas. Here is a short vid where Judith talks about their experiences, including how the nurses at the Gazan hospital Hamas took them to after they were kidnapped CHEERED at the sight of (in her words) "Israeli Jewish prey":

Germany’s leading Jewish newspaper advocates genocide in Gaza
(January 21, 2024)
The largest Jewish newspaper in Germany, Jüdische Allgemeine has published an opinion piece on Thursday, effectively endorsing genocide in Gaza, amid Israel’s ongoing war against the Palestinian people in the densely populated enclave.
In the five-paragraph piece entitled “The civilians in Gaza are not innocent,” the “freelance journalist” Tobias Huch said that “If there is such a thing as collective responsibility for crimes, then this applies to Gaza’s people. That is the bitter truth.”
Ignoring the fact that Israeli military had been responsible for most of the deaths at the Nova music festival and killed many Israelis at a kibbutz during the Palestinian resistance operation Al-Aqsa Flood three months ago, Huch attributed the massacre to the “civilians from Gaza who had worked in the kibbutzim for a long period of time.”
Germany has been notable in having abstained twice in a UN vote for a ceasefire in the Gaza war, which has claimed the lives of over 25,000 Palestinian civilians. According to DW, this decision was because the General Assembly resolution “neither mentioned nor condemned the Hamas terror attacks.”
Last week, Namibia condemned Berlin’s “shocking decision” to support the occupation state in the genocide case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) brought by South Africa. At the time, the President of Namibia, Hage Geingob, said in a statement that “Germany has chosen to defend in the ICJ the genocidal and gruesome acts of the Israeli government against innocent civilians in Gaza and the occupied Palestinian Territories.”

Israel’s New Website Documenting Hamas Atrocities, Reminding World How Gaza War Began Reaches Millions in First Week
by Troy O. Fritzhand
Tumblr media
An aerial view shows the bodies of victims of an attack following a mass infiltration by Hamas gunmen from the Gaza Strip lying on the ground in Kibbutz Kfar Aza, in southern Israel, Oct. 10, 2023. Photo: REUTERS/Ilan Rosenberg
The Israeli government’s website showing the horrors of the Hamas terror group’s Oct. 7 massacre in southern Israel has received significant online traffic in the week since its launch, according to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).
The website — https://saturday-october-seven.com/ — has already garnered more than 43 million views, including around half a million that led to people exploring the site’s content about the Oct. 7 atrocities.
The site, which includes disturbing videos and pictures of the crimes committed, contains a warning: “Extreme viewer discretion is advised.”
The IDF launched the site in partnership with Israel’s National Public Diplomacy Directorate the day before the start of South Africa’s case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) charging Israel with committing “genocide” in Gaza.
The website’s content includes graphic footage from Hamas’ brutal rampage across southern Israeli towns, the Nova music festival, and military bases. All told, Hamas terrorists killed more than 1,200 people and took over 240 hostages during its onslaught, sparking the war in Gaza.

I found this new brand of milk that’s coming out of africa as of late… I think it’s screwing with my head. My pecs and ass are getting incredibly sensitive, and my skin’s looking a shade or two darker than usual. I think I’m getting bigger overall as well. What do you think’s causing this?
You're finding it harder and harder not to think about sex. Since you had your first nocturnal ejaculation at the age of 14, it's been all about sex. Even now, you can't help but jerk off. Your mighty cock gets darker and darker with every movement until a big hard piece of coal lies in the light palm of your hand. "Senhor dos céus" you think. "Faz muito frio com os gringos em Nova York." Your home is Ipanema. By rights, you should now be strengthening your body on the beach with your buddies in the sweltering heat of the Brazilian summer and hoping for wealthy tourists who will pay 20 or 30 dollars just to have you rub their backs with suntan lotion.
But then this damn model scout came and discovered you on the beach. And now you're stuck in this cold-ass New York where it's snowing and dark and you have to pose for swimwear in the studio. At least you're earning well. And when the studio work is done, you're off to Senegal for the beach shoot until the holidays. And then it's off to mamãe e papai in Rio.
Tumblr media
Okay, you'll have to explain to the stupid photographers why you're not from Africa but from South America. And why you don't speak French like everyone else here, but Portuguese. But just in case anyone annoys you too much, you have two or three packs of "milk from Africa" with you. Then there's also the chance that you're no longer the guy with the biggest cock on set.

Random Lookism Thoughts that I Get During Class:
(Whenever I daydream during class, I always think of these random scenarios or if they were real, they’d probably do these things IRL.)
Vasco: He would be heard singing One Direction with the rest of the Burn Knuckles crew in the hallway at school, especially the song What Makes You Beautiful.
Daniel Park: He’d be fine with helping his female friends out, by making him their makeup model to try different shades of makeup whenever he gets dragged into a makeup store with them, like in Sephora
Jay Hong: He’s the type of guy who’d gladly help you in finding puzzle pieces for a picture. Also, he’d be good at playing charades. (Only when acting out the topic.)
Samuel Seo: The type of mf to act like he can beat the shit out of everybody in a MMA ring but then cries at home after just losing one round to a professional. (Or maybe he’d get disqualified off the bat for not following the rules because we all know this man is a walking time bomb.)
Johan Seong: This guy acts like he’s the shit but then doesn’t even know what’s the shit. For instance, he claims to know all of the Tik Tok trends that Zack shows him, but doesn’t even have Tik Tok.
Zack Lee: The type of guy to think that Africa is a country. (Or England is his city. Mira had to correct him every time. LMAO) Also, he might think Drake’s music is top tier and you might catch him trying to sing “One Dance” to Mira.
Vin Jin: Let’s be honest. We all have a feeling that he’d be a rising underground SoundCloud rapper with his 50 followers on SoundCloud. His inspirations would probably be K-Hip Hop rappers such as ZICO, Jay Park, Flowsik, etc. (or anyone in H1GHR Music). And his fashion sense would probably be inspired by Dumbfoundead, who was inspired by American East L.A. hip hop. (You can see from Vin Jin’s previous outfits in older Lookism chapters, with his snapback cap, black hoodie, plaid shirts and gold chain)
Jake Kim: This dude would definitely bring the entire Big Deal crew to Disneyland, but they would be stuck in the entrance checkpoint since he was thinking of just barging in there for free. Even Jerry wore Mickey ears and was hoping to get into Disneyland that day.
Kouji: This kid would have trolled people online by causing unnecessary arguments and debates on Reddit, and would later dox them and expose their personal information on Reddit, 4chan, etc. (And maybe sell people’s personal info to shady people on the Dark Web for a good amount of cash.) His hobby would be looking into internet mysteries, such as Cicada 3301.
Eli Jang: He’d be Insta-famous and would probably have like 100k followers, getting a bunch of promotion offers (Men’s Fashion Nova). Sally and the rest of the Hostel girls would help Eli dress up for his “photoshoots” even though it’s just them taking pics of Eli in different places. One of his main hobbies would be looking at popular hair trends on Instagram, to try them out at his work.
Joon Goo Kim: He would secretly be an anime fan. If he started watching anime, he’d definitely choose Demon Slayer first then become a fan. He’ll even buy and collect weapons from anime that he’d watch including those from Naruto, Bleach, and Jujutsu Kaisen. (Update: He’d definitely be a Gojo fan. They’re similar in a way.)
Jong Gun Park: You’d probably catch him in the UFC gym, training and working out. But then will end up causing a blood bath in the gym when he goes on a crazy fighting spree, just by punching people who he thinks are strong. You might see this man in a video on Worldstar or on a random Tik Tok video by an ordinary civilian.

we have loved the stars too fondly
Word Count: 1039 On the way to British Guiana, John grows closer to the Stratfords. Maybe too close.
After three days on the ship, John can safely say he is getting used to having company. It is different, having people around who are growing almost akin to... Friends. It is a new experience for him. While in South Africa, he had written to Nova often, of course, missed her like a severed limb, but he had grown familiar with solitude, just himself and the stars. Ever since meeting Margaret and the Stratfords, his life has gotten much... Louder than he was used to.
This is not always a good thing.
"Come on, you have to tell us which part was your favorite!" Rose says, eyes sparkling.
"I most certainly do not!"
Meals often look like this now, bantering and debating. Margaret retired early, and without her obvious scorn to dissuade them, they've taken to interrogating John about their hoax.
"That does make it sound like you have a favorite," Samuel points out, and John is fairly certain he feels betrayed.
“Please, don’t encourage her.”
"Was it the pyramids?" Rose asks, "I bet it was the pyramids." Her whole face is lit up with unbridled joy, her whole attention focused on John. It feels like watching a comet blaze across the night sky.
"I'm partial to the bat people," Samuel adds. He sits back, hand on his chin in faux contemplation. The golden rim of his glasses glints in the candle light like the sun.
Both of them are beaming at him, bright as stars, Gemini sprung to life before him. Mischief radiates from their expressions as they team up to tease him. John would have expected to feel bullied, like when the older boys at boarding school used to steal his notebooks or shove him as they passed. Instead, he has to work to keep his own smile off his face.
“I think you’ll find I found all of it so heinous, I can’t think of which part I hated the least.”
“Hey now!” Samuel protests, mock hurt on his face, but Rose's smile only grows.
“I don't know, I seem to remember you saying it was good.”
And she is not wrong. It was good. He had reread the first entry over a dozen times on his voyage to New York City. It wasn’t just good writing, it was good science. It was interesting and sound theory, and it had reminded John of being a little boy and staring up at the sky and asking a million different questions that, at the time, no one knew the answer to.
It filled him with a wonder he has long forgotten.
But he had imagined the utter disdain on his father’s face when he learned what their name had become associated with, and found himself in printing house square nonetheless.
(And besides, he is certain Nova would never stop laughing if she heard what the Stratfords came up with, and he would like to avoid that if at all possible.)
“And yet sometimes good things have consequences, Miss Stratford,” he reminds her. Margaret’s absence is proof enough of that. Rose looks properly admonished at that, perhaps more than he intended, but the words still ring true.
“We... we’re figuring that out. Sorry, John.”
"Thank you. Now, Samuel-"
"Hey, wait, why do you call him by his first name!" Rose says, pouting. Her lip protrudes, just a tad, and John finds his eye drawn to it. He feels faintly flushed.
"Why it's..." He stutters, fumbling over his words, "Not appropriate to call a lady by-"
"We're just that close!" Samuel cheers, and slides an arm around John, pulling him against him. He's taller than John, and easily tucks him into his side. “Right, Johnny?”
It’s a jest, John knows it’s a jest. But the lilt of Samuel’s voice as he says it, his closeness, the warmth of his arm around his shoulder. And even though they have been on a boat nearly half a week-
He smells divine.
John thinks he may be having a psychotic break.
John knows of these... inclinations. Of things that happen in the back rooms of London parties that everyone collectively chooses to ignore. Of his own tendencies towards such inclinations. It is not something he hates about himself. To hate it would mean hating Nova, betraying what she told him in confidence, and that is never something he could allow. But mostly, he ignores it. It has never been hard before. It has never been this strong, this pressing before. It has never felt so right before.
His father's scowl flashes in his head, and suddenly the contact burns.
He lifts Samuel’s hand off of his shoulder, and ducks out from under it.
“Look at the time, I ought to be going. Have a good evening, Miss Stratford, Mister Stratford.” He nods to both of them, a final acknowledgement, and turns to head back to his bunk.
“Wait, John, you don’t have to go!” Samuel says. He reaches a hand out, as if to grab John's wrist, but pulls it back quickly, like he’d been stung. John bites his lip to keep from protesting, telling Samuel to go ahead, touch him, please. “I was only teasing, I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable.”
“Yeah, we were just joking,” Rose adds, distress wrinkling her forehead. John wants to smooth over it with his thumb. “We know we can be...” She winces, as if remembering some long healed hurt. “A lot. We’ll stop, honest.”
John sighs. This is not what he intended to happen. “No, no... You both are quite alright, really. I suppose my travels have been more draining than I first thought.”
“Okay...” Samuel says slowly, skepticism etched in his face. “Get some rest then.”
John can tell they don’t believe him; they both stare at him with wary, guilty expressions. John knows how hard they have been attempting to rebuild their relationship with Margaret and it feels cruel, leaving them to think John had any hard feelings over this. So he indulges them, just a little.
“Good night Samuel. Good night Rose.”
He strides confidently out of the mess, ignoring Rose’s delighted squeal. A grin blooms on his face, and his heart flutters.
Damn. Nova is going to be insufferable about this.
