Match Card Set for Dominion 2023

After finishing an intense "Best of the Super Jr 30", we now have the official match card for "Dominion 2023" taking place Sunday June 4th in Osaka-Jo Hall. Nine matches will be contested in which eight of the matches all have title implications.

Opening up the main card will be Will Ospreay and Lance Archer in singles competition where the winner will be granted a title shot against reigning IWGP United States Champion Kenny Omega at a event to be determined at a later date.

Second match on the card is the only match that has no title implications but could should Taichi get pinned. It's Tetsuya Naito, Shingo Takagi, BUSHI, and Titan of Los Ingobernables de Japon facing Just 5 Guys' Taichi, Yoshinobu Kanemaru, DOUKI, and Taka Michinoku.

Third up is a rematch from Hiroshima as IWGP Junior Tag Champions Kevin Knight and KUSHIDA make their first title defense against the previous champions TJP and Francesco Akira.

Fourth will be a rematch from "Wrestling Dontaku 2023" as Zac Sabre Jr. makes his eighth title defense of the NJPW World TV Championship against Jeff Cobb. If 15 minutes expires here like it did in Fukuoka, feel like the clock will have to be extended to determine a winner in this championship match.

Fifth on the card is a 3-way to determine the 99th IWGP Tag Team Champions and the 4th NJPW Strong Tag Team Champions. It's Bishamon (Hirooki Goto and YOSHI-HASHI) facing House of Torture (EVIL and Yujiro Takahashi) and the United Empire (Great O-Khan and Aaron Henare). My feeling on this was there was going to be a 3-way no matter what. No one wanted to see a Bishamon/HOT match because of what could happen. Also, crowd would be too one-sided. By doing this, crowd can cheer for Bishamon. Crowd can cheer for the United Empire. As long as House of Torture does not win, this will be fair game.

After the fifth match, we will have our list of G1 Climax 33 participants. Down below (in English ABC order) are the 20 (believe that'll be the number this year) participants I believe will be in this year's tournament. Note that most of them will be from NJPW though I'm hoping we get more than one from AEW and at least one from Pro Wrestling NOAH who will have their own summer tournament (N1 Victory 2023) starting in August.

Be surprised I didn't include Great O-Khan or Aaron Henare but this list is if they go with 20 participants which I feel like they will so, it'll be tough to see who will be selected.

After the G1 participants are announced, we're back to action as the NEVER Openweight Championship will be on the line as David Finlay defends against El Phantasmo who has a listed of who to take revenge on for what happened in Ryogoku back at "Sakura Genesis 2023"

The seventh match contested will be for the NEVER Tag Team Championship as Blackpool Combat Club members Jon Moxley, ROH World Champion Claudio Castagnoli, and Shota Umino challenge Tomohiro Ishii, Kazuchika Okada, and Hiroshi Tanahashi. The theme going into this 6-man title match is the fact that Okada is not ready for the next generation to take over. He managed to easily handle Pro Wrestling NOAH's Kaito Kiyomiya at the Toyko Dome back on February 21st. In March and in "Wrestling Dontaku 2023" he was able to handle Ren Narita easily. But when it comes to Shota Umino, every time Okada assumes he can easily handle Umino, the Shooter is apparently one step ahead, and with the edge that he carried from Long Beach, something tells me Okada is going to be in for a rude awakening on June 4, 2023 in Osaka-Jo Hall. Blackpool Combat Club are relentless in getting their way. We saw that at AEW's "Double or Nothing" and here in Osaka-Jo Hall, we'll be seeing the same thing again.

In the semi-main event it's "Best of the Super Jr 30" winner Master Wato challenging the 4-time winner (2018, 2020-22) Hiromu Takahashi for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship. Wato has promised to become the champion in his hometown of Osaka. The question is can he do it against somehow he's yet to beat in Hiromu? We hope to find out on Sunday.

The main event for "Dominion 2023" is one that is very intriguing. From the New Japan Cup 2023 finals to Wrestling Dontaku 2023, a mysterious video was playing that ended with what was mostly likely the sound of a wolf. At the time many thought this video would be Katsuhiko Nakajima due to the darkness of red and the wolf at the end. But as we found out at "Wrestling Dontaku 2023" that was not the case. After SANADA successfully defended his title over Hiromu Takahashi, we found out that the person behind the video was Yota Tsuji whose entrance attire largely resembles Nakajima's Kongo entrance attire. Quickly, Tsuji made an impact as he knocked out every member of Just 5 Guys and ended the night by spearing SANADA almost out of the ring. Since his appearance many have questioned, is he LIJ or not. The fist bump largely suggests he is but all 5 members of LIJ are not saying anything despite a picture of Titan celebrating with Tsuji before "Best of Super Jr 30" began back on May 12, 2023. Many of us expected an answer at the semi-finals and finals of "Best of Super Jr 30" but ended up with nothing. So...now June 4th in Osaka-Jo Hall; SANADA puts his title on the line against somehow who we don't know who he is really with. The hope is that we'll find out either after the second match at this event in Dominion or at the main event itself.

I will be making predictions for "Dominion 2023" alongside some predictions for NOAH's "Sunny Voyage 2023 in Shinjuku Face" later on today (May 29, 2023) so expect those predictions by then .

"Dominion 2023" comes June 4th in Osaka at 4 PM local time/3 AM Eastern/2 AM Central/Midnight Pacific. Plot: Checo replacing Alex was probably the best thing to happen to him in his Formula One career. However, so much pressure comes from being in that second Red Bull seat, not just the team but the fans too, and Checo doesn’t like the pressure on him.

When Checo came into the seat, and performance wasn’t great, people in the team told him it would be fine and to keep his head up because everyone knew he was getting used to how different the Red Bull Car is thanks to Max’s driving style.

But at it came to his second season, and it didn’t seem like things were improving much, Christian kept talking to him, explaining what was expected of him as if he hadn’t already informed him over 100 times.

He was just struggling with a car that was clearly built for their main driver, which is why Pierre crumbled under pressure and it’s why they couldn’t put up with Alex when he didn’t learn the car quick enough for them.

The gave Checo the benefit of the doubt throughout 2022, but when Red Bulls most dominant season came around it was without a doubt that your husband had to step up.

And in your eyes he had, getting two race wins under his belt, but he wasn’t consistent enough for Christian and it seemed that he wanted Checo to be actually challenging Max more.

It got worse when the Ferrari and McLaren started to beat him despite being in the worse car, and it was deemed a ‘driver issue’

Sergio felt awful, for a man who had been racing for as long as he had, he never felt doubtful of his abilities to put on a show and drive to the best of his ability.

But now, in the Red Bull seat, he actually understood the words ‘under pressure’ because he was under it constantly.

“Baby what’s wrong with you, you’ve been jittery all week” you ask your husband who was currently watching over some of his old races with a notepad.

“Hmmm?” He asks not even throwing a glance in your direction.

You knew he wasn’t listening.

“Well I just think that when aliens invade Earth that we should have a bunker ready and prepared so that you and I can help create a new civilisation after the government kill them all …” you say trying to grab a reaction from him.

“Hmmm yeah that’s really nice” he starts but then he looks up and his head cocks to the side as if his brain just processed the words you said. “Wait what?” He asks.

You chuckle and little bit happy to have his attention.

“I just wanted to see if you were listening, I asked what’s been up with you lately” you say softly, taking a seat next to him, reaching over to grab the remote and pause the race he was observing so his full attention was on you.

“Nothing wrong, I’m fine” he lies.

“Hermoso, we’ve been married for 6 years, I know when somethings up” you smile taking his hand into yours and kissing the back of it softly while watching for his reaction.

“I just … nevermind it’s stupid” he sighs looking down.

“None of your feelings are stupid baby, please let me in” you say calmly.

“I just feel like, I’m so singled out on the grid. You’ve got so many amazing drivers and then there’s me. Lewis is a 7x world champion, and and Max my own team mate has won 2, and he’s probably going to win this year by a landslide and then there’s Fernando again he has two championships, and then you’ve got all this new talent in Lando, and Charles and Carlos and now that Oscar is here, it’s getting tough” he admits and you softly smile at him.

“Where have all these doubts come from honey?” You ask, you knew he didn’t think he was the best driver, but he never once compared his abilities to individual drivers.

“Christian said that if I didn’t improve he’d replace me with Yuki, Liam or Daniel and that i might not even get a AlphaTauri seat as a replacement” he says putting his face in his hands with a soft sigh.

You pull him into a hug in which he nuzzles his head into your neck.

You are an incredible driver, there’s just such an insane amount of talent on the grid right now, you being one of them. World champion or not baby, your still one of only 20 drivers in the world that are here! Your a race winner and I’m so proud of everything you’ve done. You are incredible” you smile wrapping your arms around him while you feel him shake a little, presumably where he’s crying.

“Im just awful at it all. Driving, being a husband … you’ve been asking for a baby for 3 years and I keep telling you no because I’m so career focused but I can’t even seem to be good at that career” he complains and you almost laugh.

“Oh honey, I think you forget you are without a doubt the best thing that’s ever happened to me, child or no child. And where you aren’t ready because your at a point in your career that is crucial, I’ll always understand that darling. You are all I need, you are all I want. And I married you because I’m happy with you” you say tightening your hold on him.

“You know, I would never not be ready to have a kid. If you want one, we can have one. I’d never say no” he argues wiping his eyes and looking at you, only for you to release a breath of relief.

“Thank god, that night in Saudi Arabia really stuck” you admit and he cocks his head to the side not understanding. You take his hand and place it on your stomach, there wasn’t much of a bump, but a slight and minuscule weight gain was there. Enough that when he run his hand over your tummy he could feel it.

“Are you saying?” He asks and you nod.

“I know, I know it’s not the right time because your so stressed and I’ve been so nervous to tell you because I know you’ve had a lot on your plate since being in Red Bull and it was such a shock to me” you start to ramble thinking you should have waited.

“No this is the best news ever! This has made my day, my week, my year even!” He smiles before lifting you up and twirling you round.

“I love you” he says pulling you in for a kiss, happy with life.

And now he didn’t have anything to worry about, as long as he was able to provide for you and your child or children in the future he knew he could handle the pressure because now there was something else riding on it!

EVER since your friendship bloomed with cody–you had something (or someone) to look forward to every time you went to work. it took a while for you to adjust to his always positive attitude. he was truly the top face of the company. “good morning, ms. (l/n).” the staffs greeted you. it was a regular talent meeting and you were leading the meeting. “good morning everyone. we’ll wait for the talents to come and we can start with the analytics.” they nodded in unison.

you looked at your phone, furrowing your brows at your new texts.

cody: sorry can’t attend the meeting

cody: pharaoh swallowed his chew toy

cody: going to the er now

(y/n): god hope he’s okay

(y/n): i’ll fill u in

cody: thanks bro send me your address i'll go there

“rhodes cannot come to this meeting, due to several circumstances.” you announced to the board. once again, they all nodded in unison. you were still focusing on the report to notice that your ex boyfriend and his entire faction walked inside the room. always early, you thought. the twins and their younger brother waved at you, earning a nod in response. roman smiled at you, only for you to look away. soon, the room was filled with the talents and you were ready to start the meeting.

everyone’s attention was on you. like usual, you didn’t feel intimidated–you were very good at your job. “good morning talents, staffs, and board members. my name is (y/n) (l/n), co-creative director. i will be leading the meeting today.” you introduced yourself to the room. you received several nods as an answer to continue your presentation. “without taking up your time, after we review your performances, you can leave the meeting to prepare for tonight’s event.”

“starting off with the new talents, several college athletes are on their way to the next tryouts, 6 of them are advancing in the tryouts; elliot roberts, kwon iseul, mohammed yazid, and twins kayla and matthew wilson.” you clicked next on the presentation, showing their profiles. “talent management will be supervising their performances.” you continued. “on to the next point of the meeting, analytics.”

you knew it was the boring part of the meeting as you heard several people sighing. “if this meeting is boring to you, please leave mr. perry.” the man quickly fixed his posture. “i’m sorry, ms. (l/n). please continue.” if looks could kill, everyone in this room would be dead, especially roman reigns. “the first analytics report, bianca belair." the meeting continued.

the reports were never-ending, it was indeed a long meeting. soon, the talents left one-by-one, not wanting to miss out their schedules–leaving you with the main event crew; the bloodline. you tried your best to shrug off the look roman kept giving you. “last analytics report for today goes to the bloodline.” you said. “starting off with the usos, still holding the tag-team championships… last year’s backlash did a good job for you, your ratings are up, everyone’s tuning in every time you’re on screen.” after you finished your sentence, jimmy gave a high-five to his twin. “solo, everyone’s interested in your upcoming events, twitter, especially. your feud with riddle earned views, keep it up.” the man nodded.

“as for reigns,” you paused a second, staring into his eyes–unfazed as usual. “your feud with cody has to be one of the most anticipated feuds ever. if we’re able to maintain this energy till wrestlemania, i’ll give props to the entire bloodline." he nodded at your sentence. “now cody isn’t here for his analytics, here are your prints. you’re free to go.” you said, not wanting to spend another second with your ex-boyfriend in the same room as you. the twins and solo sat up, patting roman’s back. “let’s go, uce.” he shook his head. “give me a minute.”

of course they listened to him, you thought. “what do you want, reigns? the meeting is over.” you asked. “what’s up with you and cody?” that question irked you. “again, none of your fucking business.” you replied, giving him the cold shoulder. “i need to know.” he stated. “and why do you need to know?” you barked at him. “because we all know this ‘bitch from upstairs’ doesn’t hang out with people and all the sudden you have him as a dog following you around.” you clenched your jaw at his comment. “first of all, you don’t know anything about me. second of all, cody isn’t my fucking dog. he’s a friend.” roman sarcastically laughed at your sentence.

“a friend? that’s new. also, that’s when you are wrong, (y/n). i know everything about you and this ‘bitch from upstairs’ thing? it’s not gonna work on me… you’re not like that, what happened to the (y/n) we used to love?” that was your last straw. you had to take deep breaths to calm yourself down. “roman.” you turned around and faced him. “please leave.” you gave him a fake corporate smile. he shook his head once again. “i’m not gonna leave until we clear this out.”

oh, you had enough of him. “you wanna know why i changed? there’s a huge mirror behind you, reigns. take a good look at yourself. i think you know the answer but you’re still in denial that you’re a huge asshole when it comes to loving someone.” you gritted your teeth in annoyance. “it’s pretty clear that you,” you pointed your finger at him, slightly holding back your tone. “fucking did this to me, reigns. now go fuck off and defend your title for all i care, just don’t talk to me unless it’s for work purposes.”

“can’t we at least be friends again… forget about everything that has happened between us?” you were boiling with rage. “roman, get it through your thick skull. we can never be friends. and forget about everything? so i’m disposable to you?” the two of you were on each other’s nerves. “it’s not like that.” he defended himself. “then what is going on, roman? jesus, i have a new friend and suddenly you’re back in my life?” you asked him, still not breaking eye-contact. “i’m just saying if you can be friends with him, you can be friends with me too.” you held back your laughter. “fuck off, i don’t want you anymore.”

that wasn’t a lie, that wasn't the truth either. maybe, maybe you didn’t want him anymore. or maybe you were so blinded by your own hatred to acknowledge your own feelings.

the elevator ride was silent. everyone heard you and roman arguing earlier. “so, where are you going after this, (y/n)?” jimmy asked, breaking the silence in the elevator. “i’m going home.” you replied, still feeling the tension in the air. “cool, i was wondering if you want to grab drinks?” jey continued. “thank you, but i’m going to be with rhodes. i’m gonna fill him with the analytics.” jimmy made eye-contact with his twin. roman slightly clenched his fist, still confused with the thought of you and cody. “this is my floor, i’ll be leaving. see you on friday.” you stepped out of the elevator.

to say the least, roman was happy? that you were getting out of your shell, but at the same time, he envied what you had with cody. roman knew that it was all because of his doings, but he didn't want to admit it. roman reigns was trying to make amends with you and he was failing. "get over it, man." jimmy advised. "bro, you really need a reality check, honestly. you said there's nothing you can do, now you're all back in her life? no wonder she hates you." jimmy's last sentence took a toll on him.

she hates me, he thought. "fuck, what the hell is wrong with me?" roman was all alone in his hotel room, trying his best to collect his own thoughts. "she fucking hates me." he repeated. after the break up, he thought everything would be okay; you were still going to be friends with him despite the break up, but he was wrong. why was it all coming back to him? for the first time in his life, roman reigns was confused with his next step. but he knew what he was going to do. he was going to be all over in your life again, not wanting to lose you to cody fucking rhodes.

it wasn't a nice gesture, he knew that. but seeing you with the american nightmare bothered him a bit. hell, he would prefer seeing you all alone without any friends than to see cody following you around, like a lost puppy with his charming smile and his stupid friendly personality. roman told his cousins about his plan and they all disagreed at the same time. "you're fucking crazy." jey added. "i'm starting to regret what i did, i'm gonna take her back, sooner or later." solo face-palmed at his sentence. "we don't want anything to do with this. she's like a little sister to us, uce. we can't afford another heartbreak for her. i don't even know what to say to you."

"i hope you don't mind having pharaoh in your house." you quickly shook your head, petting the dog. "it's fine. as long as he doesn't shit on my fucking carpet." cody chuckled. "who would've thought i'd be in your house, drinking beer at 3 pm?" it really did surprise you that you would end up actually hanging out with someone other than your boss. "so, what did i miss?" you huffed out the smoke from your cigarette, pulling out the reports.

"overall, i'd say this is looking good for you codes." his eyes lit up in excitement. you called him codes, a new nickname. you realized what you said and felt your cheeks slightly reddened. "codes." he repeated, not paying attention to the papers in front of him. "shut up." you smacked his back. "it's cute." you groaned in despair. you passed him the papers. "roman needs to shut the fuck up." you said, all the sudden. "what happened?" cody asked. "at this point, i think he's obsessed with our new friendship." you shrugged your shoulders.

pharaoh was running around your yard, making you smile a bit. "i don't want to deal wit him anymore, except for work.” you added, leaning back on your chair. “sorry i wasn’t there.” cody apologized. "nah, it wasn’t your fault. he’s an asshole and i need a shower, i smell like pharaoh already." you stood up from your seat.

the blond man noticed that you were slowly (but surely) opening up to him. sure, you had your moments, still trying to push him away. it was a push and pull situation. the more you pushed him away, the closer he pulled himself into your life. the friendship you had with him was genuine and you were glad that you ended up being friends with him, for now. you felt that your life was somehow getting better at a very slow pace, but deep down, you were still scared.

cody was reading his reports when he heard a knock coming from the front door. "CODY, CAN YOU GET IT? I THINK IT'S THE FOOD WE ORDERED." "right!" the man skipped to your front door, taking out his money to pay the delivery guy. "hey man, how much- roman?" cody almost choked on his own saliva as he saw his current 'rival' standing in front of him. "what are you doing here?" the two of them said at the same time. there was tension in the air, they noticed it too. "i'm getting my report, what are you doing here?"

"came to see (y/n)." cody furrowed his eyebrows. "what makes you think she wants to see you, man?" he continued. "whoa dude, who do you think you are?" roman's tone was stern. "you do realize she doesn't want anything to do with you anymore right?” they were glaring at each other. “you don’t get to decide what’s good for her, cody.” the black-haired man gritted his teeth. “i don’t, but i know what’s best for her. and you right now? you need to stay away from her…” cody muttered, trying his best to tone it down so you wouldn’t hear the conversation.

as soon as cody closed the door on his face, he was too stunned to speak. the game was on, roman thought. “where’s the food?” he heard your voice from inside the house. “oh, that’s not the delivery guy. there was a dude asking for directions.” cody lied, covering the fact that roman was still actually in front of your house. he hesitated a bit, wanting to knock again–but he knew, you’d hate him even more.

it was a matter of time till he comes back in your life. cody and roman were playing a game of chess.

ATTITUDE || 019

HELLO MY ATTITUDIANS (i thought that name was funny).

shout out to chapter 19. gotta be one of my favorite chapters,,it’s crazy how we made it to 19 already. this also has to be one of my favorite covers so far, the girlies look so nice here. please put your seatbelts on because this chapter is JUICY you thought last chapter was crazy? oh man. this chapter will also be split btw

now i can make this joke: 19 dollar fortnite card. who wants it? and yes. im giving it away.

VENGEANCE IS HERE. This is a very big night for you. It’s something you’ve been waiting for. Just to get your hands on Torrie and finish what she started.

The camera pans up on Doctor Smiley, who’s going through some of his notes.

“I know this night is very important to you. I’m glad you came. Debra gave me a call, she’s concerned you’ve been…..on a downward spiral.”

Once the camera switches towards you, the crowd cheers.

You’re not sure what he means. You’ve never felt better. “Well, I feel fine. There’s nothing wrong, from what I know of.”

Doctor Smiley simply nods, then writes something down. It’s silent for a moment, but he looks up towards you. “Plaid?”

“What about it?”

“New, isn’t it?” He questions. “If my memory serves correctly, that seems a little off from your normal attire.” It’s not much, but the jacket you’re wearing is telling him a lot. “Well, to be more modern, it’s just not your style.”

It makes a small smile grow on your face, the thought of Raven clouding your mind. You cross your legs. “A little recommendation from a friend, that’s all. Don’t you think I look nice?”

You’re reticent. He should’ve known. He also pencils this down, not answering your other question. “Right. I’m sure. Speaking of friends…how do you feel about Torrie Wilson? It’s to my understanding you two aren’t seeing eye to eye.”

What a wonderful question.

“When I think about Torrie, all I have are negative feelings.” You say. “I feeel…like I want to give her comeuppance.”

“…Would you say you want vengeance?”

“Yeah.” You nod. “That’s exactly what I’m saying.”

BACKSTAGE // 6:56 PM

Earlier that night, you and Torrie were going back and forth in the training center, rehearsing the match for the night. You two had a decent amount of spots, not too over the top. All you two wanted to do was to showcase your strength and hers.

Outside of a kayfabe standpoint, having a match with her made you thrilled. It reminded you of the ones you had in WCW from time to time.

It’s shaping up to be a good night. Even the other matches had you excited.

CHRIS JERICHO VS. THE ROCK VS. STONE COLD STEVE AUSTIN VS. KURT ANGLE

You plan to interfere with Matt and Jeff’s match after your own. Whether it be attacking Lita or purposely messing both men up, you’re there to cause trouble.

Truth be told, you’re going to try and fuck with everyone tonight and if anyone tries to fuck with your match, they’ve got a world full of pain coming back, tenfold.

But your match…..you’d finally show the WWF universe how happy you were. How happy that Raven finally took you under his wing, he made you his and you felt like you were apart of him.

You’ll tell the world as much as soon as you get into that ring.

Before that, Lita needed to be dealt with. You need to show her who she’s dealing with.

You want to get inside her head and most importantly, you want to worm your way inside the mind of Matt and Jeff. Those Hardy Boyz. Everyone loves them. You’d hear everyone scream for them as loud as they could whenever they’d show up.

Everyone loves Team Extreme!

You don’t.

You hate Team Extreme.

It’s clear to you that you have one brother wrapped around your finger already. The other wasn’t too easy to sway.

So before you know it, you find yourself rummaging through her suitcase like a madman. Cargo pants, crop tops…something that’ll make you look like Lita. Would fishnets top it all off?

For a moment, you considered buying a red wig so you could even mock her flaming hair. Is there enough time?

…Yes, yes there is. There’s always enough time. You’ll find a way to make it work after your match.

While you originally considered coming out to Edge’s match, you knew that wound was still fresh and you were still thinking of plans for him. It wouldn’t be fun if you did interference every match, honestly. You wanted to mix things up.

Actually, wait. It would make it even more interesting if it was fresh, wouldn’t it? Bah, you’ll think it over on the ride to the nearest costume or beauty store.

Either way, you needed to go and go quick, especially if you want your little scheme to work.

Wait! Maybe you’ll go out first. That way, no one would expect you coming out dressed as Lita later.

Yeah, that’s exactly what you’ll do! You already had something nice on, so why not just show up in all your glory? You may even help Edge win.

You just hope he’d be grateful, else, you’d have to teach him a few new things. You figure it’s good enough to make a guest appearance with the clothes you have on.

“Oooh, hey, [Name]!” Stacy’s voice comes from the door. She stands there for a moment before walking over to you with a smile. She looks nice tonight. “I’m glad you’re here. I just wanted to wish you luck tonight.”

You still feel pretty suspicious, but she’s not going out of her way to attack you or anything.

“You know, I’ve been looking for you!” She says, taking a seat on the small bench. She then focuses on zipping up one of her shoes. “Me and you have no problems! I just want you to rip her head off, okay?”

It’s nice of her to come and give you some sort of pep talk, despite how violent it sounded.

“Right. Yeah, I’ll do that.” You say, rubbing your temples.

“By the way, you look really tired, [Name]. Are you okay?” She asks. “Well, actually, how have you been? I haven’t been able to catch you backstage.”

It’s true, she hasn’t. Quite frankly you didn’t trust her at first, but she made her status clear the last time you saw her.

“I’ve been okay. I feel like myself.” It was a little true. Stacy probably doesn’t know about the Raven and Jeff situation, so you’re happy Lita kept her mouth shut, even if she didn’t know the whole thing in its entirety.

You take that back. You’re pretty sure Jeff told her…

“Alright…” Stacy gives you a smile and thankfully doesn’t press further. “When’s the next time we’re going shopping?”

“I dunno,” You shrug. “The next time I can actually see the Dutchess backstage?”

“Oh, you!” She bats her hand at you, then stands up from her spot. “I think we’re both really busy. I’m sure we’ll get around to it. There are so many things I see that remind me of you, I’m itching to dress you up!”

Of course. Her and Torrie always had a habit of putting you through rings of hell, dressing you up in what they think would fit you….

Stacy gives you a wink and you roll your eyes. She lightly hits your shoulder. “Don’t be like that. Hey, I’ll talk to you later, okay? I’m sure Bubba and D’von are looking for me. I just wanted to stop by.”

“I don’t mean to hold you back. I’ll see you later then.”

“You’re fine!” She reassured. With that bright smile of hers, she’s just about to leave the room before you call out to her.

“Wait! Do you happen to have a spare robe..?”

BACKSTAGE // 7:04 PM

This may have been the worst decision in your life, and shit, you’ve made some pretty bad decisions before.

Stacy was more than happy to loan you one of her robes. You were too afraid to question why she carried it around in her suitcase. You guess she’s ready for anything, even an impromptu swimsuit contest or something.

She didn’t know what you were up to and you’d rather keep it that way.

Your next mission is to find Chris Jericho. You had already changed into your ‘gift’ and put on a robe right over it. You’re a little ashamed to be doing this, especially with the cameras now on you, but Hunter asked for you to get it done.

You’re sure it’ll be worth it in the long run. Everything will be okay, even if you feel like you’re going to scream. Thanks to the advice from some producers, you find Jericho refilling a cup of water.

Alright, time to get your game face on.

You take a deep breath and strut on over to him. “Hey there.” You hope you don’t sound too forced, you really hate talking to him.

“Ugh, it’s you again.” He doesn’t seem happy to see you. “The hell do you want this time?” If you didn’t know any better, you’d think he was about to toss that cup of water on you.

“Don’t worry. I’m not here to fight or anything..” This time, you force a smile. “I actually just wanted to talk to you alone.”

“What’s there to talk about? If you think I’m dropping out of the title match, you can kick rocks.”

You try not to let his words get to you. It takes everything in your power not to reply with a snarky remark.

“Well, for starters, I don’t want to fight with you anymore. I want to make amends.” He doesn’t seem swayed, so you do your best to turn up the charm. “You know….I’ve always really, really liked you. I just didn’t know what to say.”

He raises an eyebrow, but the smirk growing on his lips tell you that you’ve got him fooled. “Yeah?”

“Yeah.” You nod. “Why should we fight anymore? Tonight, if you show up to my hotel room, I’ll make up for what was lost.” Almost on cue, you show him what you’re wearing under the robe and close it quickly.

God, you’re cringing so bad inside. One day you’ll look back on this segment and cry.

You give him one last smile and walk away down the hall.

The plan is in action. You’re sure Hunter will be happy you’ve done your due diligence. You’ve gotta throw some of your clothes back on now to make it for Edge’s match!

You’re so sure that he’s waiting on you. You just know him so well.

VENGEANCE // 7:15 PM

And you seem to be just in time. With the match just in its beginning, you nearly tripped on some cords as you made your way toward gorilla position.

They need to clean it up. What if you tripped and busted your head open? You wish you could submit a complaint somewhere. But then again, Mr. McMahon would probably pop a blood vessel trying to figure out who the hell did it.

The moment you step out onto stage, the crowd starts to cheer. This stage was huge. For a moment you stand up at the top, just watching the two lock up.

‘What’s [Name] doing out here?!’ JR asks.

‘Hey! Tell her to come over here!’ Jerry tries to get your attention to no avail.

JR can only shake his head. ‘I don’t think she wants to even be within 4 feet of you, King.’

The both of them really were going at it in this lockup, with Edge getting the best of Regal by shoving him into the corner. You want a closer look, so you come down the ramp.

It is only when the referee forces him off of Regal, was when you were noticed. He runs a hand through his hair, moving most of it from his face. He must’ve thought he was dreaming.

You open your arms. This was no dream. This was reality! He comes over to the ropes, staring down at you quizzically.

“I know you missed me!” You exclaim.

Edge is just about to respond but Regal comes over and smashes his forearm into his back. That was definitely your fault, but you shrug it off.

Regal was starting to take over, grabbing Edge by the hair and lifting him up. Yet again, they lock up, an aggressive show of strength from the both of them.

While they’re doing that, you skip on over to the side of the apron towards the announcer tables.

You can see Edge’s Intercontinental Championship sitting nearby, so you go ahead and grab it.

It’s a really pretty title. As are most of the WWF titles. Once you pick it up, you run your fingers along a continent, and the crowd looks at you curiously.

It’s not like you were gunning for it yet..though you wouldn’t mind if they put you in the running. Everyone seemed to like what you’re doing though.

‘You said she wouldn’t come within 4 feet of me, JR,’ King starts to say. ‘But I think you’re just jealous!’

‘She’s a nice young lady, I’ll give her that, but she’s got some sense.’ He responds.

‘If she’s got some sense, why’s she got her hands on the Intercontinental title?! Doesn’t she know it’s nearly impossible for a women to even hold it?’

‘I think you’re forgetting about someone…’

You’re too busy admiring the title to even pay attention to them and the match. Running a finger over one of the continents, it makes you notice how beautiful it was.

Then again, it seems to be a common theme with WWF titles. Whoever created the design needs some sort of raise. But not if it’s Mr. McMahon, of course.

You’re so focused on the title that you don’t even notice a baffled Edge making his way towards you.

“The hell are you doing?” He asks, lightly shaking your shoulder.

“I came to see you!” You say, a smile on your face. “Didn’t you miss me?!”

“..What?!“ You weren’t sure if he couldn’t hear you or couldn’t believe what you said. You figure it’s the former when he continues talking. “I don’t want you out here! Put the title down and go backsta—!”

Taking advantage of the situation, Regal had slid out of the ring and came over to shove Edge right into you. The both of you fall over, with Edge landing right on top of you.

It didn’t help you held the title in your hands. That fall completely knocked the wind out of you.

“That’s no way to treat a lady, now is it, you pillock?!” Regal taunts, grabbing Edge off of you and throwing him into the announcer table.

You groan in pain as you try making your way onto your knees. Now you’re angry! You finally get up to your feet and dust yourself off. You gently set the title belt onto the apron, before running over and jumping onto Regal’s back.

You can see the flashes of many cameras, but you’re too busy trying to claw his eyes out. You try to pry his hands away from his face, but he’s just not budging. You resort to try and choking him out to no avail.

‘[Name]’s jumping on the back of William Regal! What’s she doing?!’

‘Is she insane?! What’s wrong with her?!’

Edge watches this in awe. What the hell was wrong with you? He wants to pull you off and knock (figuratively, of course) some sense into you, but it seems like you’re helping him out in the long run.

You jump off of Regal’s back and allow Edge to come forward with a clothesline. That’ll teach him! They’ll probably be fighting on the outside for quite a bit.

Man, Edge knocking into you really hurt. You may have made it worse for yourself by jumping on Regal. You’re a bit sore and out of breath, leaning on the apron for leverage. It takes you a minute to recover, but when you do, you notice that Regal sends Edge flying into the ring post that’s behind you.

You quickly get the hell out of the way. That could’ve been worse…

“Watch where you’re going!!” You yell, trying to back away from the scene. And for good measure, you stick your tongue out at Regal.

Of course, he doesn’t notice, fiddling nearby the ring’s fabric skirt and shoving something into his trunks. What did he just get out of there?!

You don’t exactly want to stick your hand down there and find out…

That collision definitely left Edge out cold. Regal grabs him by the hair and throws him into the ring, a little too close by the ropes.

Once he tries to pin him, you grab his leg and set it on the rope. Thankfully, the referee didn’t see you put it there. Just in the nick of time too…

Regal gets off, glaring at you. You just smile in response. He could’ve won there..but no! You didn’t let that happen!

He tries to powerbomb Edge this time, just a little bit further from the ropes so there’s no accident like that again, and then pins him. Fortunately, Edge kicks out at two. This is really bad..

You’re not even sure if Edge can get up. The referee comes over and tries to check on him, so Regal turns away and fishes into his trunks for what he took earlier.

You can see it as clear as day! Those were brass knuckles. If he hits Edge with that, it’s night night for him! You don’t want that to happen, so you jump up onto the ring apron to catch Regal’s attention. You need to do it long enough so Edge can recover.

“Hey!” You yell. He’s a little bit of ways from you, so it’s hard to grab him…

He turns over to you curiously, then tries to ‘shoo’ you away. But then he just stops. Regal turns to look at you and crosses his arms. “Actually, I’m glad you’re up here, young lady, I’ve got a bone to pick with you!”

Now you’ve got him! You’re interested, too. What ever could it be?!

You don’t even get to ask ‘what is it?’ before he continues to speak. “You have quite the attitude problem! You don’t jump on a gentleman’s back! There are other ways to resolve your anger!”

It makes you remember that he too, was involved in Doctor Smiley’s session. Maybe you should heed his advice….?

Yeah, right! “The only way to resolve my anger is violence!” You say, jumping off of the apron. Regal waves his hand at you and turns around to be met with…A SPEAR!

Edge finally is able to get Regal down long enough to secure the win. The crowd cheers wildly as you grab his title and hold it up to him.

He takes it and you're outta there almost immediately, circling around the ring and heading up the stage ramp.

And yet again, Edge can only look at you in awe. You’re crazy, you have to be. But he can’t help but to admire you for coming to his aid.

While you blow a kiss from the ramp, he makes the motion to catch it. He’s a little starstruck.

Perhaps you haven’t burnt all your bridges after all.

VENGEANCE // 7:34 PM

You don't even have time to feel tired tonight. With your match being right before Jeff & Matt's, you feel like you're going to be on your feet all night. Perhaps you'll get a break before the Undisputed Championship match..

You’ve already changed into your ring gear, so now you’re waiting for Raven. Normally, you’d feel calm when it comes to matches, but with him being there, it just made you all the more antsy.

“You’re shaking.”

Your head immediately turns to Raven, who had walked up to you with his hands in his pockets. It took everything in you not to run and jump on him. “I’m just a little nervous.” You reply, crossing your arms.

He doesn’t say anything at first. “You’ll be fine, babe. Don’t worry about it.” The smirk that starts to play on his face tells half a story.

You’re almost thrown for a loop when he uses a pet name. You’re sure he was just testing it out, but it feels like you have butterflies in your stomach.

“By the way, I’ve been thinking.” He continues. “You and I were in WCW, yet you’ve never spared me a glance. Why?”

You think about it for a minute. Creative in WCW never really let you stray too far from what you’re doing, despite it being a little messy. “I don’t know. The writers over there didn’t even know what they’re doing. Look at the bright side though, I’m here with you now!”

You outstretch your arms. He stares at you for a moment. You almost think he won’t hug you, yet he comes over and wraps his arms around you.

“…I want you to prove your loyalty to me.” He says.

You tilt your head. “How?” Anything he asked, you’re willing to do.

Raven detaches from you and sets his hands in your shoulders. “There’s certain people you must get rid of. They pose a threat to not only myself, but our….” He trails off. You get what he means.

You don’t want anyone to get in the way of your relationship with Raven. Not now, not ever.

“The first person is Jeff Hardy. Once a contender for the Hardcore title…..turned nuisance to the WWF. Even worse, a nuisance for us, [Name].”

You just nod your head with a smile. Whatever he says, goes. Was Jeff really the problem?

Before he can continue on, someone from production comes over to you two. “You’re on, [Name]. Get out there.” Now you can hear your muffled music echoing over the arena.

Both of you were a little startled, but put your game faces on and head through that curtain. The adrenaline is running through your veins all over again once you’re met with the crowd.

The bell rings three times and Lillian is in the ring, ready to announce. “Ladies and Gentleman, this is a match set for one fall. Making her way to the ring, accompanied by Raven, [Name]!!”

You two walk out to stand on stage. Before you continue to walk down the ramp, Raven holds out his hand. You look at him in bewilderment, but it turns into a smile as you entwine your fingers with his. You’re thrilled he even let you hold it.

‘That Jezebel’s holding Raven’s hand!’ JR exclaims. ‘She seems to be just about anywhere lately. What’s going on in that head of hers?!’

‘I told ya JR, that mental hospital will be opening as soon as we kind find those scattered loose screws of hers!’ King says. ‘And let’s put Raven in there too! Ha!’

The both of you make it to the ring. You opt to take the steps as Raven climbs onto the apron and opens the ropes for you.

You feel elated. It’s a small gesture, but it means a lot to you nonetheless. Once you get in, you walk over and motion for a mic to speak.

Raven shuffles over to sit in the corner in the meanwhile.

“…All I have to say is one thing. The day I’ve walked into the WWF, everyone wanted to know about me..but I feel like everyone liked the thought of me.” You pause for a minute, trying to gather your words. “No one saw through me like Raven did. I can feel his pain and he can feel mine.”

You throw your mic to the side (giving it a tiny kick so it can reach the edge). Torrie’s music starts to play and you walk over to Raven’s corner to sit right in between his legs.

He’s actually pretty warm. It’s also a pretty comfortable spot. You turn your head over to the front as Torrie begins to make her way to the ring.

“Making her way to the ring from, Torrie Wilson!”

You have to admit, what she’s wearing is kind of cute. The color pink really suits her. Of course, you’d never say that out loud. You’re just ready to wrestle her.

Raven nudges you slightly, and with a whispered “good luck”, he moves away and gets out of the ring to spectate.

You stand up from your spot. Things are finally starting to heat up. The crowd is a little bit anxious.

On one hand, they hope you don’t punish Torrie too much. Then on the other hand, they hope you can get your revenge. If they’re lucky enough, maybe they’ll get some clothing shed!

Not! You don’t want any wardrobe malfunctions or any ripping of clothes tonight. This is supposed to be a serious match.

The bell rung again and you two walk around in circles. You two weren’t friends right now. You were sworn enemies, nothing less, nothing more. Torrie put herself in this spot, so you were going to make sure she regret it.

It hurts you more than anything to have to fight an old friend, but in order to get your message through her thick skull, you didn’t have a choice.

You don’t want to disappoint Raven. In fact, you just wanted to impress him. Show him you could do this. That you live up to whatever hype there is.

When Torrie tackled you down almost effortlessly, that was when you knew your head needed to be in the game. There definitely was animosity behind her hits, but rest assured there will be animosity behind yours too.

…You’re gonna be honest. Torrie is as green as grass. She always has been. Nothing wrong with that, it just makes it a little harder to carry her through the match. She wasn’t alone though, Stacy (although you technically haven’t wrestled her directly) seemed pretty green too.

You can’t help but to laugh. One time, Lita referred to those two as ‘the blondies’, notoriously known for being quite new and not knowing what’s going on.

She trashed them so bad that night, then told you that you’re the only one that could really wrestle. It was sweet, but you felt kinda bad she wasn’t fond of Torrie and Stacy.

You roll over her and start hitting her back, getting your quick just desserts.

Getting off, you stare at her as she sets her hand on the ropes in an effort to recover. Torrie takes a good look at you, her eyes narrowing once she sees you laughing.

Before she could fully get up, you come over to grab a fistful of blonde hair before slamming her right back to the mat. You’re not quite done with her yet. This is only the first stage of pain you’ll put her through tonight!

You saw a wrestler do this move a very long time ago, but you can’t remember their name for some reason. You put one foot on each side of her head and step on her hair, then lift her arms up.

The referee starts to yell at you to “let go” and to “watch the hair”.

You eventually let up, Torrie writhing around on the mat in pain. You come over and lift her face up. “C’mon, Torrie!“ You scream, slapping her for good measure. “That all you got?! Get up!”

You decide to force her to stand up, grabbing her and lifting her from the ground. She’s able to shove her forearm into your stomach, causing you to keel over.

Torrie really did get up. She grabs your hair and slams you down to the mat. It’s her turn to be in charge and she’s going to try and lay down the law.

She squishes your face closer to the canvas and uses your hair to roughly scrub it across. “You’re horrible!” She screamed. “Do you see what I have to do to you!? This is your fault!”

Torrie finally lets go of you so you can breathe for a second. The referee is chewing her out for this move, so she starts to argue with him. You slowly recover off of the ground, and since you don’t think you have enough time to get up, you use your foot in order to kick her in the shin.

She crashes down immediately, holding onto her shin.

While she’s down, you turn your head towards the front, Raven’s watching intently. Once you start to fully stand up, you can see him duck down for some reason.

But it wasn’t his fault. He was completely blindsided by someone with multi-colored hair. This person knocks him to the ground and starts laying into him with punches.

Oh no. No, no, no…

This can’t be happening.

‘Jeff Hardy has just attacked Raven!’ JR exclaimed. ‘What is going on here?!’

You don’t even know what to do. You grip the ropes, just about to abandon the match, but before you know it, Torrie’s had taken advantage. She rolls you up and then….one, two, three. You kicked out far too late.

No fucking way.

Did that really just happen?! Torrie can’t believe that happened either. Before she starts to celebrate her victory, you immediately tackle her to the ground to try and choke her out.

The referee has to pull you off of her, but you couldn’t care less. You’ll handle her right after you try and break up the fight THAT WAS STILL HAPPENING AT THE OUTSIDE OF THE RING.

You slide out of the ring in and run over towards them, doing your best to pull off the assailant to no avail.

“STOP IT! Stop!” You scream. You’re doing your best to get in between them….to no avail. Raven’s able to get up off the floor and starts punching Jeff back. They’re squabbling and you’re panicking.

This isn’t supposed to happen. Why did Jeff do that?! He didn’t even give poor Raven a chance to fight! At least he’s getting his hits in now..

Some referees have to come from the back and attempt to pull the men away from each other.

The rowdy crowd is looking on, cheering at the sight. One of the referees have to tell you to back away so you don’t get hit, so you do.

Aaaand you’re bleeding.

Oops, you may be mistaken. You’re pretty sure one of them is bleeding, but you can’t tell who. With the referees crowding around them, it’s hard to discern who it was. All you can see is some blood smeared on your arm and hand.

You simply walk away and reach under the ring to yank out a kendo stick. Torrie’s still sputtering in the ring, and with most of the referee’s attention on settling the two men, you come back into the ring for a little bit extra.

You absolutely fucking hated how this finished! This was growing increasingly stressful, so you had to deploy the cure.

Violence!

For now, you toss the kendo stick to the side. You get down and pull Torrie’s arm right under your leg, getting into position for a Yes Lock. But it’s not any old submission.

You take the kendo stick and pull it under her neck. She flails under you, so you try and lighten the hold just a little bit so she wouldn’t be too hurt later. You try to be nice, sometimes.

There’s so much going on inside and outside of the ring, no one even knows where to focus.

One of the referee’s finally notice what you’re doing. “Hey! HEY!!!” He yells, coming back in. He forces you to release your hold on Torrie and she continues to cough, trying to gasp for more air.

….You definitely lied. You’re not excited for tonight at all.

You’re not in a good mood anymore.

Wrestling World presents Wrestling Maniacs: JUNE 1999

Sabu: THE SILENT KILLER!

Alongside Terry Funk, Mick Foley, and maybe Sandman, Sabu is a hardcore wrestling legend. He has always been ECW’s most well-rounded performer, willing and able to make not only himself but any opponent look good.

EXTREME Championship Wrestling (ECW) has a variety of reputations. Some describe it as a slaughterhouse, a kind of Ultimate Fighting organization minus the sportsmanship. Others are quick to note the technical, high-flying aspect to many ECW wrestlers’ styles. Unquestionably, ECW is violent, bloody, and bruising. But the acrobatic, high-impact, death-defying talents throughout the promotion are just as prevalent. One longtime ECW star has always performed with both of these objectives in mind. That man is Sabu, one of the most influential, mysterious, and entertaining wrestlers ever to compete in any federation.

Covered with scars from barbed wire death matches (his specialty during his early days), standing a modest 6-foot tall, and never weighing in over 225 pounds, Sabu looks like a man who has taken more punishment than he has handed out. He never speaks on camera, but communicates to the fans with his trademark index finger pointed into the air. He wrestles all the time and has a reputation for overbooking himself–some say for the money, but less cynical fans realize that very few men have surrendered themselves to the sport like Sabu.

Sabu’s wrestling style is better seen than described. He walks the line between fearlessness and complete psychosis. He is equally known for his vast arsenal of moonsaults, flips, and other top-rope maneuvers as he is for his various barbed wire, table, and chair stunts. He inflicts pain mercilessly, yet gracefully. At his ECW debut in 1993, he pinned Taz (then known as Tasmaniac) twice in one night, setting off a feud that still resurfaces periodically. His threshold for withstanding pain goes to an even greater extreme. Legend has it that once during a match against Chris Benoit, Sabu actually had his neck broken, yet still managed to finish the match.

The story behind Sabu’s rise in the American wrestling scene sounds like the stuff of legend as well. He was born in Bombay, India, the nephew of The Sheik. In 1984, after giving his nephew some training in mat technique, The Sheik announced that Sabu would compete against a mystery opponent in order to prove himself. The opponent was later revealed as The Sheik himself, but Sabu managed to pass his test one way or another.

Sabu’s professional debut came in 1985 when he defeated the Canadian Road Warrior. He then spent several years traveling the American independent circuit, making a name for himself as one of the most feared men in wrestling. He worked himself as much as possible, often wrestling six days a week, occasionally as much as three times in one day! In 1992 Uncle Sheik again helped further Sabu’s career, helping him make the jump to Japan’s FMW promotion. Sabu earned his first gold teamed with Horace Boulder (the same who now wrestles in WCW), when the two won the tag belts from Atsushi Onita and Tarzan Goto. At this point, Sabu’s growing reputation earned him a contract offer from the WWF, which he declined in favor of his interests in the Japanese scene, which included winning the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight title.

Strangely enough, less than a year later, in October of 1993, Sabu made his ECW debut. Within less than a month, he had defeated Shane Douglas to become ECW World Champion. Weeks later, Sabu staked his belt against Terry Funk’s ECW Television title, defeating Funk and claiming both belts. Ironically, Sabu lost the World title to none other than Funk in December. Sabu held the TV title a bit longer, losing it to the Tasmaniac in March of 1994.

Taz and Sabu actually managed to reconcile their differences amiably, and formed a tag team. They won the belts in early 1995 from The Public Enemy, losing them a few weeks later to Chris Benoit and Dean Malenko. THe feud between the two reignited, culminating in a much-anticipated match between the two reignited, culminating in a much-anticipated match between the two at the first-ever ECW pay-per-view, “Barely Legal,” in early 1997. Sabu’s nose was broken early in the match, but this didn’t prevent the two from putting on the most grueling, strenuous match of the card. Taz, at that time managed by Bill Alfonso, won the match by choking Sabu unconscious. After the match, Taz extended a hand to a revived Sabu, but Alfonso ruined the moment by selling Taz out and instead offering his services to Sabu.

“Under new management, as the saying goes, Sabu once again claimed the ECW World title, again defeating Terry Funk. This time, in August of 1997, it was in a barbed wire match in Philadelphia, one of the most legendary matches in ECW history, so bloody and gruesome (even by ECW standards) that it has never aired on TV.The match ended with Sabu wrapping himself in barbed wire and using himself as a lethal weapon. He and Funk were so entangled in barbed wire that after the match they had to literally be pulled apart. Less than a week later, Sabu defended the belt in a three-way dance (against Shane Douglas and Terry Funk) at the second-ever ECW pay-per-view, “Hardcore Heaven.” The Sandman interfered, and Sabu was the first to be eliminated, with Douglas going on to pin Funk and win the title.

More recently, Sabu has paired with Rob Van Dam to form one of the greatest tag teams ECW’s ranks have known. They defeated Chris Candido and Lance Storm for the tag team titles during the timer of 1998, before the ever-present tag threat of Bubba Ray and D-Von Dudley won them in November at a Cleveland event. Since the loss, the two have regained the tag titles, and Sabu has set his sights on a third reign as ECW World Champion. His title shot was scheduled for January at ECW’s “Guilty as Charged” pay-per-view, a shot he earned by pinning current champion Shane Douglas in a non-title-six-man tag match at “November to Remember.” The two faced each other in Pittsburgh recently, where a bloodied Douglas retained his title when the match was declared a draw.

Some love him, some hate him, but no fan will deny Sabu’s influence on wrestling today. When he first hit the U.S. scene in the mid-’80s, promoters were more interested in cartoonish, buffoonish wrestlers like Hogan and the Ultimate Warrior. A wrestler like Sabu was too real, too violent, and too dangerous for mainstream audiences. So he remained in the ugly underground scene before breaking into ECW.

Unlike many wrestlers who simply imitate their own heroes’ maneuvers, Sabu originated many of the complex moonsaults and flips in his repertoire. He brought chairs, tables, and barbed wire into ECW, and he was the first to use the chair as a springboard (like Al Snow) instead of a weapon (which is not to say he doesn’t use it as a weapon too–I saw him give One Man Gang a top rope legdrop on the face while holding a chair under the leg in question!)

Many of ECW’s top stars have recently left the promotion in favor of the big two (Bigelow, Candido, Whipwreck, Sandman), with more rumored to be on their way out (Rob Van Dam, Tommy Dreamer). Nevertheless, some tough competition remains for Sabu in ECW, in the form of Douglas and Masato Tanaka. Tanaka’s pain threshold approaches (if not equals) Sabu’s, as evidenced by the battle on the chairs with Balls Mahoney. Come to think of it, a tag team of Sabu and Tanaka could be unstoppable (in ECW or the WWF), should Van Dam decide to leave ECW.

Much like Kanyon, Jericho, and even Austin, Sabu is among the performers who always put on a good match, regardless of the occasion or opponent. By the time you read this, Sabu could very well have given Douglas a lesson in violence at “Guilty as Charged,” and won the ECW Championship for a third time. He deserves it, and if he doesn't win it, he should consider going after the WWF’s Intercontinental title. Alongside Funk, Mick Foley, and mauve Sandman, Sabu is a hardcore wrestling legend. He has always been ECW’s most well-rounded performer, willing and able to make not only himself but any opponent look good. All fans should point to the sky when they hear “Huka Blues” and Alfonso’s whistle going off, out of respect. Who knows which of the Sabu legends are true, whether Benoit really broke his neck, whether Alfonso really superglued him back together after the barbed wire match with Funk, but one thing is for sure, the fact that these legends even exist makes Sabu one of the most intriguing, mesmerizing, and downright brutal competitors ever to perform. And yes, those scars are real.

Dynasty preview

Samoa Joe vs. Swerve Strickland - Joe is defending the AEW men's world championship. These two already met in a three-way for the title on March 3, but since Joe tapped out Adam Page in that match, he still has unfinished business with Strickland.

When Swerve started chasing the title, I figured he'd lose to Joe and move back down the card for 6-12 months, to get heated up for a real run on top. By the end of February, it was pretty clear this guy has It and a lot of people were going to be disappointed if he didn't win the big one ASAP. I figured he wouldn't lose the fall on March 3, but I never imagined they'd give him another shot this quickly. On top of that, the build feels like Swerve has to win this time. They've done all the little things that will make it super disappointing if he can't close the deal. It feels too early to take the belt off Joe, but I don't know if they can get away with denying Strickland again.

If Joe is going to retain, they'll really have to pull out all the stops. Joe cannot beat Swerve clean--that would be promotional malpractice at this point. You'd need a huge surprise run-in to keep fans from totally hating a Swerve loss. Maybe if Adam Page returns to renew his endless feud with Swerve. Maybe if MJF returns to get revenge on Joe. Maybe if Jack Perry clips Swerve's knee before the match, and the 101st Airborne hold him down for the three-count. But even with all that, I wouldn't want to be the guy booking Swerve to lose tonight, and facing the media after the show.

Even so, I can't quite convince myself Swerve is actually going to win the world title. I'm so used to pro wrestling dicking us around with these things, and making us wait past the peak. So even though I think the finish should be a foregone conclusion, I'm gonna be on the edge of my seat for every near-fall. Should be good times.

Matt Jackson & Nick Jackson vs. Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler - This is the final match in a 10-team tournament for the AEW tag team championship, which was vacated by Sting and Darby Allin after Sting retired. It's also a ladder match, so the title belts will be hung above the ring, and ladders will be provided at ringside for the wrestlers to climb; the first man to pull down the belts wins the match and the title for his team. Both teams have held the title twice before; whichever team wins here will become the first 3-time AEW tag team champions.

This will be the fourth two-on-two match between the Young Bucks (Matt and Nick) and FTR (Dax and Cash). FTR leads the series 2-1 after their last encounter on August 31. The Bucks recently claimed that they only lost that match because they were distracted by the infamous CM Punk/Jack Perry incident, and insinuated that FTR planned it somehow.

I would like to think this match could be the last final word on making cutesy references to CM Punk drama. I'd like to think that, but the Bucks have an approach to heel heat that lends itself to beating dead horses and not being terribly subtle about it. That will probably take the match down a peg. I'm not sure which team will win, but it feels inevitable that Jack Perry will run in to help the Bucks, and I don't see FTR coming up with a counter for that. So I guess I'm picking the Bucks.

Will Ospreay vs. Bryan Danielson - Danielson is winding down his career by wrestling all his dream matches, and brother he got himself a good one here. I figure these two will tear the house down. Other than that there isn't a whole lot of story here, except that the Don Callis Family may or may not have any confidence in their man Ospreay to win, and the Blackpool Combat Club is getting sick of the Don Callis Family. It's only a matter of time before Callis turns on Will, but I'm not sure it'll happen tonight. I'm cautiously picking Ospreay to win, but I can't rule out a Danielson victory.

Toni Storm vs. Thunder Rosa - Storm is putting the AEW women's world title on the line. This match was supposed to happen waaay back in September 2022, with Storm challenging Rosa for the title, but Rosa was sidelined with a back injury. Since then Storm has become a three-time champion, and gone off the deep end with her current "old-timey movie starlet" gimmick.

I always wanted Rosa to come back and get a shot at the title she never lost. But now that we're here, I'm a bit concerned. Rosa's matches since her return haven't wowed me--although to be fair, they've mostly been squash matches. I just don't get the sense she's as hot now as she was a couple of years ago, and it feels like Storm has passed her by and lapped her a few times. I can't help thinking Rosa isn't going to look good here, but I hope I'm wrong. In any case, Storm should probably retain.

Kazuchika Okada vs. PAC - Okada is making his first defense of the AEW continental title. Per the rules for this title, there will be no one allowed at ringside. Pac is cool and he'll give us a great match. But, dude, c'mon. Okada just got here, and he's still on that "new guy wins all the time" streak. I learned a long time ago not to bet against Okada.

Mark Briscoe & Adam Copeland & Eddie Kingston vs. Malakai Black & Brody King & Buddy Matthews - Briscoe lent a hand when FTR and Daniel Garcia were feuding with the House of Black, and ever since then he's been feuding with the House of Black. Lucky for him they've also managed to piss off Copeland and Kingston. It was only a couple of weeks ago that Mark and Eddie beat the hell out of each other over the ROH men's world title, but this time they're on the same side.

Briscoe's superteam looks like more than a match for the House of Black, so it'd be easy to pick them to win. But the fact each of the babyfaces has a singles title makes me wonder if it'd be better for the heels to win to set up three new challengers down the line. I could be overthinking it, but something tells me the House will win here.

Roderick Strong vs. Kyle O'Reilly - This is for Strong's AEW international title. These two used to be teammates within Adam Cole's Undisputed Era faction in NXT. Then O'Reilly and Cole were buddies in AEW in 2022, until they both got sidelined with injuries. By the time O'Reilly returned, Strong was in AEW as a part of Cole's Undisputed Kingdom faction, and it seemed logical for Kyle to join up. Instead O'Reilly chose to go it alone, and I guess Roddy didn't appreciate that, so here we go. I think O'Reilly has a fair chance of winning the title, but it seems too early to take it off Strong, so I'll go with him to retain.

Julia Hart vs. Willow Nightingale - Willow won a four-way match for the right to challenge Julia for the AEW TBS title. Mercedes Mone has already issued a challenge to the winner of this match for May 26. Meanwhile someone has been sneak attacking both Mone and Willow, which sure suggests Julia is behind it but I bet it's someone else.

So I think both these women are super cool and awesome, and this is one of those matches where I just hope everybody has a good time. But let's get down to brass tacks. I really want to see Julia step up and defend the title against Mone. I know, I know, the backstory is already in place for Mone vs. Nightingale, and that's cool too, and if I had to put money on it that's the match that will happen. But...I gotta root for my girl Julia here. Sorry Willow.

HOOK vs. Chris Jericho - Hook already beat Jericho last month, but this time he's putting his FTW title on the line, so there will be no count-outs or disqualifications. Jericho wanted to mentor Hook, but he got too pushy about it and Hook decided there's nothing Jericho can teach him.

I'm 99% sure the point of this match is for Jericho to win the title, whereby Hook will realize he underestimated Jericho's cunning. The problem is that "FTW champion Jericho" would be a retread of "FTW champion Jack Perry" and "ROH champion Jericho." Everything about this storyline feels like a rehash of previous Jericho storylines in AEW. So I hope Hook wins to put an end to it, but I don't expect to get that lucky.

Anthony Bowens & Max Caster & Billy Gunn vs. Jay White & Austin Gunn & Colten Gunn - This is scheduled for the pre-show. It's a unification match for the AEW trios title (held by Billy and the Acclaimed) and the ROH trios title (held by Jay and the Gunns). I assume the winners will keep the AEW belts and the ROH belts will be retired. I have been looking forward to this, because I have long felt that AEW absolutely does not need two trios titles (unless Julia Hart and Skye Blue find a cool chick to be their spooky friend).

Austin and Colten turned on their father and the Acclaimed in 2022, and joined Jay White's Bullet Club Gold back in June. The two groups reconciled and joined forces in January, but within a few months White and the Gunns showed their true colors again.

Throughout this storyline I've been expecting Billy and the Acclaimed to prevail in the end. But now that we're in the eleventh hour I'm having second thoughts. I could see either team losing and moving out of the trios division altogether. And I think it's high time Caster and Bowens get back in the hunt for the tag title. So I think I've talked myself into picking the Bang Bang Gang.

Orange Cassidy & Katsuyori Shibata vs. Shane Taylor & Lee Moriarty - Another pre-show match. Shane Taylor Promotions really put a beating to Cassidy on April 17. Since Trent Beretta turned on Orange and Chuck Taylor is injured (and we don't know where his loyalties lie), Cassidy is running low on friends to help him in situations like this. Shibata seems like a strong partner to bring in, and a month ago I'd have said the faces win this one easy. But Taylor's group seems to be starting to get a push, so they might surprise you here...

Trent Beretta vs. Matt Sydal - More pre-show stuff. When Shane Taylor Promotions was beating up Orange Cassidy, Trent ran in just to take out anybody else who tried to run in and help Orange. What a dick. Anyway, he laid out one guy so fast I didn't even see who it was, and I guess it was Sydal. Sydal is going to lose pretty hard here.

The Road to... Wrestlemania XL

Part 4: Sami Zayn vs. Gunther, LWO vs. Escobar & Dominik, 6-Way Tag Team Ladder Match, & Damage CTRL vs. Belair, Naomi, & Cargill

On top of the three I have already mentioned, there are four other matches on Wrestlemania XL Saturday!

We have Damage CTRL, who have been running roughshod over the Smackdown Women's Division for the better part of the year. We'll get to the crown jewel of that faction tomorrow, but their three other members are in action on Saturday. The Women's Tag Team Champions, The Kabuki Warriors (Kairi Sane & Asuka), and Dakota Kai are representing the unit as they take on a trio of popular women's stars.

There's the returning Naomi, who rejoined the WWE in January, and is keen to show-up the unruly faction. There's also Bianca Belair, a multi-time women's champion who has been frequently undone by Damage CTRL. Completing their team is the debuting Jade Cargill. She has wrestled just one WWE match, that being the 2024 Royal Rumble where she made an immediate impression. She's joined Naomi & Belair in their fight against Damage CTRL, so the stage is set for Wrestlemania.

There's also a big 6-team ladder match for both the Raw Tag Team Championships and the Smackdown Tag Team Championships! The Judgment Day have been on top of the tag team division, holding both titles for almost the entirety of the last 9 months. This will prove a challenge for the dark and dominant team of Damien Priest and Finn Balor...

There's the 11-time champions The New Day, Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods. The happy-go-lucky team are always favourites to win a big match, having been some of the strongest champions in recent years. The team of #DIY are also in the match. Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa have had their ups and downs, but when they're on the same page like they are now they're one of the best teams out there. You can never count out the team of Awesome Truth though, The Miz & R-Truth. The cocky and opinionated Miz will do anything to win, and Truth is entirely unpredictable, whether he means to be or not! He may have extra motivation too, having thought he was in The Judgment Day despite their dislike for him, leading to them feuding with the rapping wrestler.

Smackdown has some hot tag teams also in contention too though! There's the New Catch Republic, the former British Strong Style team of Tyler Bate & Pete Dunne. They challenged for the titles at Elimination Chamber in a losing effort, but these awesome young wrestlers are some of the best in the world and they'll want to get the belts on the second attempt. Lastly, there's also A-Town Down Under, Austin Theory & Grayson Waller. This mouthy and underhanded pair will be keen to win here and laud this accomplishment over the rest of the roster. Who will claim each set of titles in this chaotic matchup?

Speaking of tag teams, we have a tag team matchup between the Latino World Order and the team of Santos Escobar & Dominik Mysterio. When Rey Mysterio revived the LWO name, Santos Escobar was honoured to be a part of such a legendary faction. However, he grew frustrated with the Hall of Famer, and he would shockingly and brutally turn his back on Mysterio with a vicious beatdown. He would bring back his faction Legado del Fantasma with new members Angel Garza and Humberto Carillo, and they have been at loggerheads with the remaining LWO for months. However, when Mysterio & Escobar finally went head-to-head, the masked man's son Dominik, who had long-since distanced himself from his father, helped Escobar cheat a win.

A year after Rey defeated his son at Wrestlemania, a tag match was set up with Santos & Dominik against Rey and the newest member of the LWO, Dragon Lee. Despite the faction containing the tag team of Joaquin Wilde & Cruz Del Toro, plus legend Carlito, already in their ranks, Mysterio reached out to his fellow masked man for assistance. Carlito would find Lee injured on Friday Night Smackdown though, and a change had to be made. But in a surprise, Andrade El Idolo, a former rival of Mysterio's, showed up to assist the LWO against Legado del Fantasma and The Judgment Day's Dominik. Andrade would join LWO and be the man to tag with Rey at Wrestlemania.

Will it be the nefarious team of Santos Escobar & Dominik Mysterio?

Or will the veteran Rey Mysterio and his ally Andrade El Idolo come out on top?

And of course, there's the big match for the Intercontinental Championship. Gunther, the big man from Austria, has held the title for a record-breaking 665 days. However, if there's anyone who can defy the odds, it's Sami Zayn. Zayn has gone through a lot in recent years: joining The Bloodline, breaking out of The Bloodline, winning the tag team titles in the main event of Wrestlemania 39 Saturday. He has yet to taste singles gold since he became a fan favourite again, and he is struggling to wear his heart on his sleeve once again to defeat the champion. He was able to win a gauntlet match to earn the opportunity though, despite his previous doubts of how he gets onto the card, and has been working with one of Gunther's biggest rivals throughout his reign, Chad Gable. The former Olympian has been training Zayn on all his experience with Gunther, but only time will tell if he can defeat the leader of Imperium, Gunther.

AEW Has a Problem

Everything that I type here is all in my opinion and it's something I didn't want to discuss at first but feel like it's time to say it. AEW has a problem and that problem is CM Punk.

How did this problem start, you ask? Go back to the post-media event of "All Out 2022" where just minutes after regaining the AEW World Heavyweight Championship, CM Punk lashed out at the media instead of talking about his reaction to the return of MJF (aka Maxwell Jacob Friedman) from earlier that day.

His words caused a backstage brawl that resulted into suspensions of himself and all around him including Matt Jackson, Nick Jackson, Kenny Omega, Brandon Cutler, Michael Nakazawa, etc. Also, due to that brawl, both the AEW World Heavyweight Championship and the AEW Trios Championship were vacated.

The Trios title ended up being help by PAC, Rey Fenix, and Pentagon until January 2023 while the AEW World Heavyweight Championship would be returned to Jon Moxley who regained the title and held onto it until November where he lost in what many can considered controversial fashion to Max Friedman.

Many people including myself were under the impression that a deal was reached where CM Punk would be let go by the company for his actions. Not the case as we learned that this Saturday (June 17, 2023) a new AEW show will premiere called "AEW Collision" and the show will heavily involve CM Punk.

Now...how did people react to his imminent return. Not very good. From everything I heard and read, the reaction was very negative with boos almost all over arenas and on social media. AEW tried to cover it up by finding those who'll cheer his return. It didn't work. Worse than that...the announcement of his return caused slow ticket sales so what happens next...let's announce his return match.

CM Punk, Dax Harwood, and Cash Wheeler vs. Jay White, Juice Robinson, and Samoa Joe. If you're a Jay White fan, you'd be like "yay, Jay's on AEW Collision" in an exciting way but when you read he has to face Punk in 6-man tag action you like "yay, Jay's on AEW Collision" but your excitement meter goes down.

To make matter worse for AEW, they aired a VTR of Punk last night on AEW Dynamite that got the crowd booing even more. And from the people I follow on social media, all were furious that AEW keeps on showing Punk. Some even ask "why has he not been punished yet for his actions" "why is he getting awarded when everyone got punished"

These questions I cannot answer but I can say that AEW has a problem (CM Punk). They've tried almost everything to cover up the problem and instead have made it worse. And now...I read something in which this problem AEW has with Punk is so bad, I don't know how they're going to solve it at this point. That something...an interview that apparently and/or reportedly went out of control. Read some details on it and...it's not good.

The last time I watched AEW was the week before "All Out 2022" in which I was starting to question Punk's booking at the time but was somewhat proud to see Kenny Omega back in the ring. Haven't watched AEW since then and until they release CM Punk, have no intention to watch AEW again though there'll be times I'll watch certain highlights but not a full show.

One more thing I've been reading since they've been announcing his return was a proposed match against KENTA at "Forbidden Door 2023" taking place June 25th in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. From what I read, many are thrilled about the proposed match because this could solve the one issue many have, who really owns the "GTS'. Instead, I read that Punk was "not interested". Reading that really boils me up because how in the world can you not be interested in facing a former GHC Heavyweight Champion, a 3-time GHC Junior Heavyweight Champion, a 3-time GHC Junior Tag Team Champion, a former GHC Tag Team Champion, a former Global League winner, a former IWGP United States Champion, a former NEVER Openweight Champion, and a 2-time (and reigning) Strong Openweight Champion. Why in the world do you say "not interested" to someone is regarded by many to be the best the world has to offer. Read KENTA's response to the proposed match and...it's a interesting one because he'll only do it if it requires the money provided but if Punk is saying "not interested" then why bother.

Again, AEW has a problem that they've yet to solve and based on all I've read, based on all I've heard, and based on almost everything I've said here...are not even going to attempt to solve the problem and it's a shame that this is happening. None of this would have happened if they had just fired Punk. Instead, look where we're at right now. This (AEW Collision with Punk) is going to blow up in their face.

With that...done talking about Punk here. Again, everything I just typed right here on my Pro Wrestling Express is all in my opinion. Feel free to comment on your opinion in this ongoing problem that AEW has no attempt to solve at this time.

I spent waaaay too much time writing this but once I started I felt like I couldn’t stop lmao, so I’m applauding anyone that gets through it!

The story of how I ended up where I am today is a long and winding road lmao. But I think I should start by prefacing with the fact that hockey has been a part of my life since I was born essentially. There are pictures of me on a pair of skates at around age 2 when my dad first tried to teach me! Then I played consistently from age 6 to 14 but quit when they wanted me to leave the “girls” team and play with the women because I was intimidated haha. Besides playing myself I’ve also spent many hours with my dad on the couch watching Sweden play in any and all kinds of tournaments, worlds, Olympics you name it, and since he never really rooted for any other team in Sweden or outside of it I just kind of slowly fell into that same thing. I knew there was a hockey league overseas that a lot of our own players were shipped off to but I never really had any interest in rooting for a team that wasn’t team Sweden at the time.

In the winter of 2014, I was at the ripe age of 15 and I did not play hockey anymore nor did I care about any teams really, but two of my best friends at the time became OBSESSED with this one junior player and kept talking about him. This man was none other than Thee Mr Willy Nylander himself. This led to the three of us obsessing over him and we watched him play in the world juniors over our winter break. It got to the point of us picking fights with people on twitter that said he was a bad player and really anyone that said anything negative about our Swedish players hahaha. We had a group chat named after him and everything. We eventually lost interest and forgot about him but this story is important because it comes back later.

Flash forward to May 2023! Before I entered my hockey era again I had an eight month long absolutely crushing obsession with the TV show 9-1-1 that was airing on Fox at the time (ABC now thank god, I still keep track) that came to a screeching halt when the season 6 finale aired and I hated it. I swore up and down that I was never ever going to watch that show again and now that the one thing I had been so fixated on for so long was gone I did not know what to do with myself. Which sounds so dramatic but honestly sometimes I don’t know who I am if I have nothing to obsess over. So naturally I needed entertainment and as I looked up through the haze of firefighters and network drama I found that the 2023 IIHF World Championship in Tampere and Riga was on! And I had no choice! There was hockey to be watched and I sure did watch it. Now, it did not go too well for the Swedish team last year, which is okay. But one thing that happened was the constant debate on wether Willy Nylander was going to join in. His brother was there and his teammate Timothy Liljegren also joined in. But there was no word on Willy himself. And it was all they talked about. He obviously did not end up joining but all the talk had made me nostalgic. And naturally I had to revisit the old object of obsession and see how he was doing over the Atlantic and turns out he was doing quite well indeed. And because I am a sucker for team dynamics and narratives (who could ever believe I studied film for five years) I desperately clung onto the Toronto Maple Leafs like my life depended on it. What I didn’t know was that these were also transformative times, and once I’d gotten into the team and the organization, I was bewildered when Kyle Dubas all of a sudden was going to another team??? How could that be?? The Penguins?? And that’s when I found my way to the Pittsburgh Penguins, the power of Dubas’ cardigans and Sidney Crosby’s fat ass gripped me and now I split my time between my equally cursed teams like they’re my divorced parents. And here we are.

Naturally there are a lot of nuances left out of here, I’ve covered the key points but I think that there are probably so many reasons that it was the perfect time for me to get into hockey again and here we are almost a year later and there’s no going back now!! I’m stuck here forever. And I would not have it any other way <3

This is the end of ramblings and I’ll say if there’s anything I love more than hockey, it’s being dramatic, and also I didn’t spell check this at all so if it’s not perfect I’m sorry (I’d love to blame it on English not being my first language but it’s the only subject I’ve always had straight A’s in so it’s not really applicable it’s just me being lazy)

AEW Dynamite 9/21/22

Claudio Castagnoli (c) vs. Chris Jericho for the ROH World Championship -- Jericho reverses a top rope Ricola bomb attempt into a hurricanrana!!! Huge straightjacket, sit-out Ricola bomb from Claudio!! Same finish as the Jericho/Danielson match at All Out. The ref is thrown into the corner while Jericho lands a low blow. Jericho hits the Judas Effect and gets the three count. Good match, but I am devastated by the result. Claudio should have held that title for at least 6 months, and Jericho does not need that title or any title.

Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland (c) vs. The Acclaimed for the AEW World Tag Team Championship -- I liked this better than their All Out match. Crazy 450 stomp to the outside by Strickland. Fameasser by Gunn on Strickland. Mic Drop by Caster on Strickland for the three!!!!! This crowd goes absolutely nuts for the new tag champs!!!!! The Acclaimed don't do a lot for me in the ring, but they are entertaining and charismatic, and they have certainly gotten themselves over. I'm happy for them.

Schiavone is interviewing Wheeler Yuta. MJF interrupts!!!!!!! MJF says Yuta will never get a reaction like MJF just got walking out. He says these people worship him and would drink his spit, and that there isn't a single man in this arena who wouldn't let him sleep with their wife, and the only reason he doesn't is because he has standards!!!!!! This man cannot be contained on the mic!!!!!!Lmaooooooo, go off, Max. MJF and Yuta throw hands! MJF lays out Schiavone!!!!!!!!!! Incredible segment!!!!!

Pac (c) vs. Orange Cassidy for the AEW All Atlantic Championship -- This was a great match. These two work so well together. Beautiful deadlift German suplex by Pac <3333. Pac beats Cassidy down for the majority of the match. Cassidy attempts an Orange Punch, but Pac catches him and just absolutely throws him. My god, the strength!!! A second Orange Punch lands and Cassidy covers, but Pac grabs the rope to break the pin. Pac rolls out, and Cassidy goes after him. Pac grabs the ring bell and nails Cassidy. Pac rolls Cassidy back into the ring for a cover and a three count!!!!! Nice!!!!!!

Bryan Danielson vs. Jon Moxley for the vacant AEW World Championship -- Danielson absolutely picks Moxley apart for the first ten minutes. Until Danielson goes to the top, and Mox reverses. Mox hits a big back drop suplex from the top, the goes for the LeBell lock, but Danielson keeps him from fully locking it in and escapes. Cattle Mutilation, beautiful high roundhouse, then psycho knee by Danielson! Mox stomps Danielson's leg and hits Death Rider, but Danielson kicks out! Stomps to Mox's head by Danielson!!!!! Triangle!!!! Transition into the Lebell lock!!! But Mox escapes. Mox lands Death Rider on the stage!!! Kick out by Danielson in the ring!!! Mox locks in a sleeper!! Danielson tries to escape, but Mox rolls through and locks it in again!! Mox is fully on top of Danielson with all his weight, and Danielson goes out. Damn. I am a bit sick of seeing Moxley win, especially with championships involved, but better for him to be MJF's stepping stone than Danielson. Here's to the future!!!!!!

Months ago we saw Chief Thunderbear eat some type of meat that was given to him while Derek Wayne was wrestling William Renee. Moments later Thunderbear ran to the back. Later that night we saw Wayne finding him in the bathroom where he puked up a black liquid. After the Bullrope match between Wayne and Sawyer, Thunderbear stumbled onto the stage his face covered in that same black substance knowing Lilith was behind it. At Mercury Rising, we will get sawyer taking on Thunderbear. what kind of shape will Thunderbear be in?

Panthro vs O'riley Chambers

Last show we seen O'riley Chambers defeat Genophage member Silas McCarthy. At Mercury Rising will the same happen to Panthro? Will this be Panthro's last chance to gain respect from his fellow Genophage members?

The PWX tag team division has been heating up lately. Genophage cost The Bruisers a chance at beating Strader and Renee a few months ago. Now The Sons of Mifflin County and Violent Love have joined the battle and a 8 Man Tag Match has been set for Mercury Rising.

PWX Heritage Championship- Derek Wayne vs William Renee

Chief Thunderbear ran out during Wayne's match and distracted him long enough for William Renee to hit a vicious clothesline onto Wayne and Renee became the new Heritage Champion. Renee would defend the title against Pav Novak in july to retain but Wayne gets his rematch at Mercury Rising. Can Renee hold onto his newly won championship or will his focus be on former tag partner Vance Strader who turned on him at July event?

Coal County Crusher vs Thomas Mathis

While Thomas Mathis is working out in the gym each day, Coal County Crusher is drinking beer and crushing cans. Two different workout styles which one will prove to be the best at Mercury Rising?

PWX World Championship- Manic vs Strader vs Horsepower vs Ampo (One fall to a finish)

Since becoming PWX world heavyweight champion, the hero champ Manic has been undefeated racking up win after win even if they were not clean honorable wins. But now Manic is up against 3 other men at Mercury Rising. Does Manic have another trick up his sleeve?

Puro Introduction Guide Part 2: The Four Pillars

WARNING: I am just a puro fan so it is likely I am going to get some details wrong or put them forward in an incorrect way. If anyone ends up reading this and having corrections please say and I will be happy to change it to be more correct.

As a big fan of Puroresu I am aware that often older Puroresu can be harder to get into for newer fans due to the language barrier and actual age of the wrestling making it difficult to actually gather information from just watching it like you can with wrestling in languages you can understand (if you watch matches on AEW you can gather details about ongoing stories and wrestling history thanks to the commentary and promos, but this is much more difficult when you cannot understand the commentary).

However there is a large catalogue of great classic puro matches that have influenced wrestling across the globe and are also just damn fine watches. So in order to help with newer fans trying to get into Puro and potentially watch these classics I am going to do a series of little guides discussing different Puro things.

This one is going to be about The Four Pillars of Heaven. Frequently regarded as one of the greatest (if not THE greatest) groups of wrestlers of all time, with many classics between them. This guide will hopefully help get across the basics about these classic performers. This guide will mainly focus on their time in All Japan, with a later guide focusing on NOAH.

These 4 men were Mitsuharu Misawa, Toshiaki Kawada, Kenta Kobashi, and Akira Taue.

THE BEGINNING: ALL JAPAN IN THE 90s

All Japan Pro Wrestling had not struggled for success since it’s founding. Held aloft by the star power of Giant Baba, even after he had to start pulling back on matches and eventually retire, he had been able to prepare a successor in the form of Jumbo Tsuruta, who was able to keep the company aloft. Even when they split from their lucrative NWA partnership during the decline of the system in the 80’s, they managed to simply create their own top title separate from the NWA World Title; the Triple Crown Heavyweight Title. They even secured many high profile foreign talents to come over, such as Stan Hansen, Vader, and “Dr. Death” Steve Williams.

Despite Jumbo Tsuruta still being a top draw and great wrestler, Baba wanted to plan for the future. So he decided that a young wrestler named Mitsuharu Misawa, who up until he was picked was working as the second Tiger Mask, would be the man to embark on a feud with Tsuruta to become the new Ace of All Japan.

Misawa and three other men from his generation of All Japan home talent would become known as “The Four Pillars of Heaven”. These 4 men would come to be regarded as the best wrestlers of not just THEIR generation, but perhaps ANY generation. While this group never became an official on-screen stable, these men’s careers would be intrinsically tied together. THE SCARLET PILLAR: AKIRA TAUE

Akira Taue began with a Sumo career under the name Tamakirin, but had to retire from Sumo and decided to transition to Pro Wrestling. He would find success early and rapidly teamed up with the rest of the Four Pillars in their faction “Super Generation Army” to face off against Jumbo Tsuruta and his villainous “Tsuruta-Gun ''. However, Taue would rapidly abandon Super Generation and join up with Tsuruta. The feud between these 2 factions would produce many fantastic tag team encounters featuring Taue. Taue’s success in tag team competition would continue when Toshiaki Kawada turned heel on Misawa, with Taue and Kawada joining up to create the tag team “Holy Demon Army ''. The 2 men would go on to hold the World Tag Team Championship 6 times together.

Akira Taue is often regarded as the odd man out of the Pillars. Not because he is bad, but because he is Very Good in a set made up of some of the greatest of all time.

Taue’s style was remarkably different from the rest of the Four Pillars, being a much more traditional big man style fitting for his tall and lanky frame. Taue is famous for his many, many chokeslams and his vibrant Red gear. THE BURNING PILLAR: KENTA KOBASHI

Unlike Kawada or Taue, Kobashi never turned heel on Misawa. While the 2 were not always partners and faced each other many times, there was never a point where the 2 would truly become heated rivals, merely having a friendly rivalry instead. Kobashi was thus often thought of as the number 2 to Misawa, not helped by the fact that for all their time together in All Japan he was never able to defeat Misawa in a singles match for the title; with 2 of his three reigns with the belt being ended by Misawa, and the one that wasn’t ending with it being vacated due to Kobashi leaving the company.

Kenta Kobashi began his career in All Japan with a titanic 63 match losing streak. This allowed him to showcase the incredible fighting spirit and determination that would become a hallmark of Kobashi for all his time in AJPW.

The idea of him being a master of Babyface fire and fighting spirit may give the impression to people unfamiliar with him that he was a selling heavy wrestler. This is not truly the case, as while he would take his shots and give a lot of spirited screams, he could dish it out too. Beating his opponents down with chops and clotheslines, and if he truly wanted them dead and buried, he would hit the legendary Burning Hammer to seal the deal. Unlike many Uber-Finishers in wrestling Kobashi only hit the Burning Hammer 7 times across his 25 year career.

Unlike his later career however, Young Kobashi was also quite fast, including a Moonsault amongst his finishers. THE DANGEROUS PILLAR: TOSHIAKI KAWADA

Kawada found success befitting his dangerous aura as well, being a 6 time tag champ with Taue as the Holy Demon Army, and holding the Triple Crown 5 times across his time in All Japan. He also had many all time classic matches, including a match with Misawa that is often considered one of the greatest matches of all time.

“Dangerous K” Toshiaki Kawada was the most Strong Style member of the Four Pillars. Having been an actual Karateka in his youth, Kawada as a wrestler brought his kicks into his offence. Blasting his opponents with kicks and drops before trying to ground out a submission, Kawada’s style seemed much more deadly compared to the others with a snugness unlike his perennial rival Misawa. Sporting Black and Yellow gear reminiscent of a caution sign, Kawada truly seemed like the most dangerous competitor in All Japan.

When the rest of the four pillars left to found NOAH, Kawada stayed in All Japan and became the Ace of the promotion, before going freelance later in his career, and quietly retiring from wrestling years later. THE EMERALD PILLAR: MITSUHARU MISAWA

Having many all time classic bouts in tag team and singles action, Misawa wrestled like a man much smaller, well suited to the athletic style of Tiger Mask. He would blast his opponents with a variety of elbow’s. While his strikes alone were enough to finish many opponents, he also spiked them with Tiger Suplexes, his innovative Tiger Driver, and eventually the move that would become synonymous with him, the Emerald Flowsion.

Quite possibly THE greatest wrestler of all time in his prime, Mitsuharu Misawa came from humble origins in All Japan. Spending most of the 1980’s as Tiger Mask II, Misawa suddenly unmasked in 1990, quickly challenging and defeating the Ace, Jumbo Tsuruta. While he would never get a true title victory in his feud with Tsuruta before Tsuruta had to pull back his role due to cancer, Misawa still went on to become the Ace of All Japan after taking the title from Stan Hansen.

At the peak of his greatness in the ring, Misawa was THE most popular wrestler in all of Japan, with crowds going insane the moment his music hit, and even before in several cases.
