If daylight savings has you feeling discombobulated, here’s your pass to take a nap! March 11th is National Napping Day and in the spirit of the day we’re sharing Shel Silverstein’s (1930-1999) The Nap Taker from his book of poems Falling Up.  

Falling Up was published in 1996 by HarperCollins and was Silverstein’s third published collection of poetry. The book features over one hundred poems and drawings by Silverstein and was the recipient of the Booklist Editor’s Award in 1996. Our copy of Falling Up was a gift from Alison Newman and is another book from our sizable Historical Curriculum Collection.

naps r so underrated imo and i’ve had a few vivid thoughts abt the foxes and their nap habits so here are a few lol

neil - for neil, i have two warring ideas. one is that neil doesn’t take naps because he’s so used to being on edge and alert just in case they get caught but the other says that neil takes consistent naps because he didn’t consistently get full nights of sleep on the run m. but then i imagine neil taking little naps in the sun w his cats so i’m going to say that he is an incessant nap taker !! looking for neil? he’s asleep. after practice? asleep. going to head to practice in a bit? asleep. party in half an hour? he’s passed out.

andrew - on the other hand andrew doesn’t take naps but he basically sleeps like the dead (unrealistic hm but he gives me the vibes). andrew gets a full 10 hours of sleep at least and isn’t afraid to forsake practice or school in order to reach that goal

aaron - just to preface aaron is an athlete and premed college student so he’s never actually rested. if it was up to him, he would always be asleep, but unfortunately, he only gets a few if he’s lucky and has permanent eye bags

kevin - i will die on the hill that kevin has like a fancy skincare routine, expensive silk pillows and sleep masks, and the foxes often find him with a face mask on bc i’m correct. i think kevin’s kinda too anxious to be like a regular nap taker but when he naps he knocks out for at least an hour

Oh yeah, in case anyone was worried, I am okay 👍 had a miserable few hours, honestly one of the most harrowing experiences of my life, but I am out the other end of it. For now. Still feeling bleh, but the pain's gone down (it was at like a 7 or 8 on the pain scale lol. I couldn't think of Anything Else) & my fever has gotten better too (fever came back with a Vengeance. And so did a headache. Eugh.)

That whole state was triggered after I took my first dose of the antibiotic I was prescribed (or maybe it was the trip outside that did me in, idk), but I think I won the battle I was fighting. I'll be taking the antibiotics for 10 days, tho they're supposed to make me feel better within 1-3 days. So. I'll take the full amount bc that's the responsible thing to do with antibiotics, but hopefully it won't take too much time b4 I'm no longer utterly miserable.
