Story idea.

So, as you guys know, I'm a little obsessed with gacha reactions. Since I've been branching outside of Ladybug I've gotten more ideas. One of them is a One Piece isekai type story. The main character is a bounty hunter on the ship when Alvida attacks but, for some reason, Luffy doesn't show up in the barrel. The story will basically be a retelling as the mc tries his best to keep the timeline on track, gathering the straw hats together to keep them safe, stopping villains, helping Coby and all that noise.

Along the way he'll be trying to figure out what the hell happened to Luffy, what devil fruit powers he has, just how far he can make it in a world without the future pirate king and how he could possibly convince the crew to follow a man they've never met. If he can't figure it out before the time skip? Then he'll have no choice but to find the One Piece himself and pray that the sun god doesn't need to be awakened for there to be peace.

this is SO self indulgent. their designs literally did not change. but i am a firm believer that dnd doesnt have to be european high fantasy. and also one piece literally IS fantasy. no changes are necessary to fit into dnd. ive already imagined plenty of campaign/oneshot ideas inspired by one piece. so this was basically just an exercise of trying to replicate their canon abilities in dnd 5e as much as possible without totally homebrewing everything. well. aside from luffy. you just cant take away or change his stretching.

LUFFY: (human monk. drunken master subclass. outlander)

the only plain human of the crew to balance out with the fact that he still has rubber powers. obviously a monk. but drunken master subclass specifically because i think the flavor(not the fact that its about being a drunkard) and abilities both fit him really well. this line in the subclass' flavortext especially fits him: "A drunken master often enjoys playing the fool to bring gladness to the despondent or to demonstrate humility to the arrogant, but when battle is joined, the drunken master can be a maddening, masterful foe."

ZORO: (tiefling fighter. samurai subclass. bounty hunter)

a fighter with the samurai subclass is so very incredibly obvious... but i actually had a lot of fun geeking out while comparing the abilities to what he can do in canon; Fighting Spirit, Rapid Strike, and Strength Before Death especially! tiefling is also pretty on the nose for his demon pirate hunter shtick and asura form, but i thought he'd be really human-passing for a tiefling and theorized about his tail getting cut off at some point or another before joining the strawhats. initially wasnt gonna give him a feat, but i gave sanji a feat so i thought itd be unfair to not give him one as well, so sentinel fits the bill pretty well i think!

NAMI: (tabaxi rogue. arcane trickster subclass. criminal)

cat burglar -> full grown literal humanoid cat. this one is INCREDIBLY self indulgent... i love... cats... theres nothing deeper to this and no other reasoning. i took cat burglar and ran with it. can you tell that i love izutsumi dungeon meshi? rogue for the aforementioned burglar-ing as well, and the arcane trickster subclass for when she picks up climatact! the mage hand will be very useful for her pickpocketing. in the future as she levels up with timeskip, i can totally see her multiclassing into wizard as well! weather wizard!

USOPP: (lightfoot halfling artificer. artillerist subclass. urchin)

I HAD SO MUCH FUN THINKING ABOUT HIS CHARACTER SHEET. halfling's Naturally Stealthy ability lets him hide behind his crewmates since theyre (almost) all bigger than him, so its perfect for hiding behind zoro or sanji all the time. Lucky is also perfect for him, and I think Brave fits pretty well too when he puts on the sogeking mask. artillerist artificer is also very fun! tinkering and making magic items for his crew, and i think Eldritch Canon or Arcane Firearm could both be easily reflavored as kabuto or any of his inventions. for emphasizing his sniper-ness, the spell sniper feat was also necessary. i think hes my favorite of all the concepts. big ears and long nose combo is so cute to me.

SANJI: (half-elf monk. drunken master subclass. guild artisan (cook!))

race was mostly based on vibes i wont lie. squints. and that vinsmoke balogna or whatever too ig. but mostly vibes. along with the idea that i think a dwarf zeff raising him would be really funny and cute. monk is also obvious, and same subclass as luffy for mostly the same reasons. though the flavor fits him much less, i think the abilities still fit him perfectly, and this blurb specifically; "Your martial arts technique mixes combat training with the precision of a dancer." i really wanted to give him a different subclass from luffy, but i dislike all the other monk subclasses a lot and i found none of them fit him as well anyways, so to try and give them SOME differences, i gave him the crusher feat.

CHOPPER: (awakened deer(shifter statblock) cleric. life subclass. hermit)

this ones definitely a mouthful im sorry. awakened deer for obvious reasons, but due to magic instead of devil fruit stuff. when i was struggling with his race, i looked a lot at shifter because of his forms, but it occurred to me that itd be super cool if he could shift between all of the different shifter options instead of being stuck with just one to replicate his rumble balls. something like heavy point/guard point=beasthide, horn point/arm point(?maybe?)=longtooth, walk point/jumping point=swiftstride, and brain point=wildhunt. hed definitely need some kind of nerf though to balance out that homebrew... and cleric for class. duh.

ROBIN: (high elf wizard. order of scribes subclass. criminal)

robin is definitely the one i struggled the most with just because of her class. elf came pretty easily- shes very elegant and i think shed look cute with super long ears- and i landed on high elf instead of wood elf for the int-based abilities. i was really on the fence between sorcerer and wizard for her because i knew shed be a full spellcaster, but i didnt feel that any of the subclasses really fit her. i ended up going with wizard for order of the scribes since it focuses on texts and knowing everything. but also because robin with a flying talking sentient book would be crazy cool. it could also be similar to how she spawns mouths and eyes places to talk to or watch people. my "fuck it, why not. this would be rad. its my house" mindset kicked in with her i will admit. also the One with the Word ability made me cackle out loud when i read it. thats the funniest ability ever. anyways, i cant really think of a way to replicate her powers, but maybe we could just reflavor a bunch of spells to be her limbs or clutch; hold person, maximillian's earthen grasp, or evard's black tentacles. thatd probably work okay, and theres a handful of spells to replicate her ability to spawn eyes or mouths. unrelated, but i imagine nico olvia to be a drow. why? her hair is white. i am a simple man!

Kirby in one piece! With one piece’s strong focus on dreams and found family, I thought it would fit for Kirby to be a pirate that dreams of sailing to the stars and beyond. Not that this is very achievable by normal means, but we know that it’s at least possible with Eneru and the Skypiea arc :D

Kirby has the devil fruit power of the copy-copy fruit! A paramecia activated by contact and only able to copy one fruit at a time. It can copy logias and paramecias with no problems, though actual ability using the fruit’s powers is up to Kirby to practice and figure out. Zoans can only be copied to partial transformations and cannot be awakened. Kirby doesn’t have much of a mind for haki but has a lot of latent conquerer’s haki that he doesn’t realize— it’s one of the reasons he’s able to make friends so effortlessly.

Meta Knight in this AU is a retired marine, between Captain and Rear Admiral level. He has a bat model zoan fruit that allows him to grow wings, and is a skilled swordsman. He’s retired from the marines but acts a his own separate party that is neither revolutionary, marine, nor pirate, keeping his own fleet known as the Meta-Knights. Their actions are similar to pirates despite not flying a Jolly Roger. They claim territory to protect and occasionally fight other pirate crews, and they claim no allegiance to the world government. They simply go where they are needed. Meta Knight will sometimes sail with Kirby on his small ship, the Popstar, just to keep Kirby out of trouble and make sure the ship is well stocked and well-maintained and able to be seaworthy.

Dedede is the king to one of the small countries that isn’t represented at the Reverie. That means he has a lot more freedom to do his own thing, including setting sail while taking a crew of Dees with him and leaving the country in the hands of some administrative Dees. Dedede splits his time between exploring and sailing and returning home to run his country, with the help of his trusty second in command, Bandanna Dee. Dedede has a penguin model Zoan fruit, and Bandanna doesn’t have any devil fruit but is proficient in coating their spear in haki. They’re the designated save-the-fruit-user-from-drowning person when they’re on deck.

Kirby’s crew changes because a lot of the people he recruits tend to have their own responsibilities. His crew is also full of people he’s beaten. It’s not uncommon for Kirby to sail alone, though he gets into more scrapes than usual with bad weather and rough waves. It can hardly be called a pirate crew, but Kirby has collected all the most heinous criminals under his banner and as such, the world government treats it as a threat.

His hair wasn't really that long but enough for simple designs. When makino noticed she asked if he wanted to cut it but Luffy refused saying it was comfortable the way it is. So she took it upon herself to style his hair (Luffy was reluctant at first but eventually it grew him) he ended up trying something new from time to time but he mainly stuck to the default/casual one.

(don't question his haircut my hair does that and it makes no logic whatsoever)

C: "Crocodile" style (that took a lot of hair gel)

D: plaits/small braid (I tried to find a good one)

Then there's.... Arachnid...

His hair is still short but due to his fruit he can pull out webs from different areas in his body for easy access. I'll get to the rest some other time but the main one resides in his hair and he can basically make it longer. It was @moonelnone 's idea! They suggested that "sometimes Luffy tends to scratch his head only to accidentally pull on one of the strings and now he has to pull it all the way out."

I've got multiple text posts' worth of lore in my notes app. But here is the cliffnotes version:

Sanji is still part of Germa as an adult. As the "deficient" child he is not given a prominent role in the family business. Rather, he is in charge of the secret bounty branch of Germa. (As part of the World Government that sets bounty amounts, members of the Royal Family can't collect bounties themselves.) So Sanji gets a fake identity, musn't reveal his connection to Germa, has to hand in bounties for Judge etc. In exchange he can live on his own and do as he pleases (e.g. work part-time at the Baratie and spoil his Germa handler and money launderer Nami (i.e. Kyu-chan) with pastries whenever he drops by to pick up work or drop off bounties).

Zoro grew up in Shimotsuki. But. Kuina didn't die as a child, but as an adult. The two of them were travelling and training and were using bounty hunting to pay the bills. She is killed on a job and Zoro will never forgive himself. He becomes more single minded on his and Kuina's shared dream and doesn't do anything but work and train. Sends half of every bounty back to Koushiro.

Somehow Zoro becomes Sanji's partner. Either recruited by Judge because of his reputation as Demon of the East Blue. Or Zeff sneakily sets them up on a hunch.

They find 4 year old Luffy on a job. Plan to return him to Garp, but when Luffy innocently drops hints of Garp's methods in childcare, Sanji vetoes that plan.

Luffy introduces himself to everyone by name and dream, same as Miri introduces herself to everyone by name and age.

One Piece Crocodile-centric AU where at some point during the Alabasta saga Crocodile realizes that Luffy's his son, but doesn't know what to do about it.

He gets so stressed over it that he winds up confiding in "Miss All Sunday" during a moment of weakness, desperate for someone to tell him what the hell he's supposed to do in this situation...!

(She doesn't have any answers for him, but she won't forget what he has told her...)

It influences him to go a bit easier on Luffy during their fight (at least to the point that he doesn't bother using Haki) not expecting that he'd ever actually be defeated—and yet...

When he wakes up he's on a ship; Nico Robin is leaning over him. "Hello, Boss," she says. "You've been out a while—but I'm going to need you to sleep for a little longer."

The next time he wakes up there's more noise—shouting and the pounding of sandaled feet on wood. He hears a "gomu gomu no—"

And, shit.

She didn't...

She better not have...

Crocodile is going to kill her.

"How unfortunate that you can't swim, Boss. It seems you're stuck here for the indefinite future. Oops."

- "zo," you huff, "it's like the thousandth time, ofcourse im gonna be fucking mad at you!" sanji:

- sanji had a (bad) habit of always backing you up - one might wonder what's bad about that but when he almost beat the shit out of a random guy for saying he didn't like your vibes - "sanji!" you pull him away, eyes widening, "stop it" "but yn" "you cannot keep doing this! you cannot keep fucking putting up a fight against anybody who doesn't like me-" "yes i can" "sanji." - it ended up leading to a fight and you stormed off into the class - you expected sanji to come apologize the very next period or atleast text you or something - but nothing. you didn't see him for the rest of the day. - not until it was 9 pm and all of a sudden, a cheesy pop song was playing outside your window and in your front lawn stood a drenched, blonde guy holding up a boombox and a giant wet, white sheet reading "FORGIVE ME YN IM SORRY PLEASE I LOVE YOU" - first of all why was he drenched? it wasn't even fucking raining - that brings your attention to his two best friends, luffy and zoro holding a hose at him from a distance (luffy is giggling, he's having the time of his life, zoro looks like he hates being alive) - "sanji why are STANDING IN FRONT OF WATER?!" "SO THAT YOU FORGIVE ME, MY LOVE IM SORRY" "YOU'D CATCH A COLD, COME INSIDE IDIOT!!" - well, he did bring a box full of home-made chocolate though, so you cannot be mad at him for long - did this event stop him from being a bit over-bearing? no, not really but eh, that's sanji for ya
