Obscure Animation Subject #28: The Drinky Crow Show

Created by Eric Kaplan and Tony Millionaire, based on the latter’s comic strip Maakies which ran from 1994 until 2016, its a computer animated cel-shaded series aimed for adults. It’s rare to get CGI shows from adults…

The series is directed by Matt Danner and produced by Mirari Films and Williams Street. It aired on Adult Swim from November 23, 2008 to January 25, 2009. The theme song is preformed by They Might Be Giants, a band I only know for their guest appearance on Blue's Clues.

Curious to know what episode the band appeared in? It was in the episode Bluestock, which originally aired 11 days before I was born. Back on topic, I never read the comic or seen the show, but Henry reviewed it in his scorecard and thought it wasn’t good but gave him interest in the strip. As this was based on a strip, the jokes maybe better off as out of context clips. Funny as shitposts but not for TV.

Henry described the humor as sometimes funny but unfunny and edgy mostly. Reading the strip, he found the humor there funnier than this show. I’m curious on checking out both as their defiantly interesting to discuss, though I might read the strip first for better humor.

So I know the last time I ever said anything that wasn't related to my art was when I said I was stabilizing a new job and was looking to rejoin the RPC again. That was [checks] over a year ago at the least, and uh. A lot's happened since! I still wanna join in on rp here again. It's just been. A lot. Mostly trying to balance real world obligations and hobbies outside of Tumblr. I'm gonna try to get back in the swing of things on my Akira blog @akirathief, but I'm gonna be real, Tumblr's changed SO MUCH since and I'm still trying to fumble with getting New XKit and XKit Rewritten working again. (Which, btw, if ANYONE has any tips for that, PLEASE let me know, I had to reinstall New XKit just to get Tumblr to even look nice on my desktop adjkfgsh) Anyway, thanks y'all for being patient I guess? I might end up being one of those rpers who just disappears and reappears randomly at this rate but it is what it is.

(NOTE: Some of these hc's have changed, as I'm constantly making new hcs and revamping stories for the creeps) QUICK TW, THIS POST MENTIONS DRUGS/ALCOHOL,VIOLENCE, AND SEXUAL THEMES Ask BEN blog is open!

I need to get my art out there, not that its the greatest, as you can see, especially compared to the other ask blog creators out there, but i also want to have fun with this so im starting a Creepypasta ask/art blog myself, and im starting off with simple basic information that can lead to questions and such. Please note these are my hcs and opinions, so I'd appreciate if everyone would respect that. Thank you!

Okay, starting off with a quick note, this is only a simple artstyle, and it may change, it may not, though im hoping as the blog progresses, my art will improve. Another two things to keep in mind is that I may not always answer a ask with art, and that this blog will have mentioned drug/alcohol addiction, violence(they arent Creepypastas without a little violence here and there), and MAYBE sexual themes, im not too sure about that one. Basically, this blog is not for the faint of heart. Take care and please do not read or look at this blog if any of it may possibly trigger you!

-I hc that BEN is 21, an adult, and smokes weed and has done drugs, like the little stoner he is

-I hc he's pansexual, as well as a demiboy, and goes by he/they

-His birthday is April 23 1990, and he died the same day in 2002 at the age of 12. He didn't age as he was trapped in his game cartridge, but he finally managed to escape by the time his next birthday rolled around, and he is now a aging spirit ever since then

-See the wings? I also came up with the idea that he was supposed to be an angel, its a wonky hc and probably not one a lot of people will be used to, but I like the idea. Ofc, he never became an angel, instead being kept on the surface world by Slendermans powers, but he still has the wings

-Water will burn his skin, even if its ice cold water

-His closest friends are Jeff, Toby, and Liu, Jeff being perhaps his best friend as in my au/hcs they've known each other in both the past before any incidents and after, therefore having known each other for about 8 or 9 years. They may or may not have a 'bromance' in this blog(aka yes they do) so if you dont like that, I'll ask nicely again, please step away from this blog.

-He is perhaps one of the strongest pastas due to his magical properties and abilities

-He is also a proxy, and in my au/hcs, only the most skilled of the Pastas are chosen to be put in training to become a Proxy. The only proxies as of the beginning of this blog are Maaky, Hoodie(I know their from Marble Hornets, and I have watched it, but Im one of those folks who like the crossover:), BEN, Toby, and Jeff

-Any more information about BEN and the other pastas will be discovered by asks and maybe random doodles that I'll sometimes post in between blog posts

This isn't the neatest or most organized start of a blog, but I'm gonna be honest, this is my first time doing something like this, so bear with me! I will also try to work on getting better image quality because I know it sucks as of now, but my Ipad likes to be a little silly sometimes. Take care of yourselves, your loved and appreciated!❤❤❤

The Drinky Crow Show #5: “Whale Show” | December 1, 2008 - 12:15AM | S01E02

Well, hello there. It’s the Drinky Crow Show from AdultSwim.com. In this one, Drinky Crow has blown his brains out and needs to find them in order to figure out what happened the night before which caused him to blow his brains out. He finds his brains, and they tell him: He found a pretty gal who had him take him out to sea. Drinky was happy to oblige, thinking perhaps he’ll get his cloaca sniffed. Before he’s able to get to any kind of base a big sea monster gobbles his date up.

Drinky shares this tale of woe to a pub filled with enraptured bar flies. After a night of having his beers paid for by sympathetic-ear-havers, Drinky realizes he can profit off telling his story over-and-over. So he does, with stupid puppets and stuff on a street corner.

His rinky-dink puppet show version of his story gets some attention from a big corporate entity, who buys Drinky’s heartbreak, keeping him and Uncle Gabby on as writers. And that’s where the episode sorta falls apart somewhat. The episode goes on another bizarre flight of fancy where Drinky keeps buying black market brains to keep his scripts fresh, which are now being performed at a Sea World style theme park. The suits encourage the writing partners to appeal to teens and engage in meta-humor. Okay, so it’s episode two (or three counting the pilot [or five, if you’re watching this in production order {which is how the Adult Swim website (adultswim.com) has it}]) and we’re already doing an episode that’s about the show itself?? COME ON!

There’s a part in this where the park show includes a paid promotion from the Navy. My guess is that it was a reference to the fact that Adult Swim often did run ads for the US military, a fact that should piss us all off more than it clearly does. The Navy is also a big enough part of the Maakies-verse that maybe I’m wrong about that, and it’s actually just a coincidence. In a vacuum, the Navy would be the most likely entity to advertise itself in this world. I don’t know, I’m just flashing back to Brak solemnly saying “be an Army of one” and frowning right now. I am denying the world my smile, and that's bad news.

This one is resolved when Drinky happens upon the brains of the sea monster that ate his girlfriend. Absorbing the monsters memories makes him realize that his girlfriend only faked her death for the insurance money. And now I no longer have to talk about this episode (which wasn’t that good, in case it’s clear).

EPHEMERA CORNER:

Metalocalypse - Season Two DVD (December 2, 2008)

It’s important to note every single DVD release, or else I will die.

This one didn’t advertise any extras, but hid everything as Easter Eggs. At least, that’s what I was told via a review from DVD Talk.

Fun fact: Drinky Crow is one of the few shows the network openly doesn't like. Quoting the 16th anniversary disillusionment theater marathon: "We are fans of Tony Millionaire’s Maakies comic strip so we tried to turn it into a TV show. Turns out it made more sense as a strip. The Drinky Crow Show 2007"

Those bumps use too much sass mouth for my tastes, but I guess it’s admirable that they can be self-deprecating. I remember they said something about how they shouldn’t’ve commissioned 20 episode seasons from shows like Saul of the Mole Men. Very class LESS thing for them to do. But considering that they feed into the military-industrial complex, as noted in the above review, this should not be surprising.

Demon With in: The Origin of the Maeda-Clan: Part Two

Military Rise and becoming the Demon Lord

At the age of 42 he was granted a domain in both the Noto and Kaga Provinces. Despite being small, Kaga was productive province which would develop into the wealthiest domain in Edo period Japan.

He benefited from Red Halo and a duo of senior vassals; Murai Nagayori and Okumura Nagatomi, they were the longest retainers for standing with him.

One unfortunate night his master Nagafumi was assassinated. Depressed by this he started to pray to become stronger. One night as he was praying with Mahana a dark tall figure appeared in front of them stating that their name was Amanosaku who is the grandson of susanoo the god of storms, and told them that if they drink their blood they will become strong and as the next generations of their family would as well. Keijirō and Mahana took Amanosaku’s offer and drank his blood. Keijirō didn’t know that Mahana made a deal with Amanosaku’s that only their bloodline would carry Amanosaku’s blood(Demon gene) in them, being that as they got older Keijirō would take on five different lovers and have seven children with them. She wanted to be superior because she sacrificed her high status to be with Keijirō, just like him she wanted her bloodline to be strong and Amansaku to let her children that were already born drink their blood as well and they granted.

After drinking Amanosaku’s blood Keijirō started to notice that his strength increased by a lot and decided to kill Nagafumi’s assassin, and he did just that he killed Maaki Akechi at the battle of Yamazaki along side with his best friend Hachibei and Iisuke Tokugawa a cousin-in-law who was also under Nagafumi’s teachings.

During the battle, Keijirō’s eyes turned white giving him the nickname “The white-eyed demon”

discovered recently that I am kin with, of ALL people, drinky crow (from the drinky crow show/maakies). this is my first confirmed fictionkin in YEARS... like four years... and it's some of the most genuine kin feelings I've had. like it doesn't feel like I'm forcing it to make other people happy (something that I have done, unfortunately)--this came 100% organically. not exactly a kin you want to be readily open about, but tbh I'm all right with that. I'm in my 30s now, I don't feel like suppressing stuff about myself anymore.
