The Drinky Crow Show #11: “Peace” | January 26, 2009 - 12:15AM | S01E10
War is over! Drinky and Gabby can return home and finally become Family Guys. Drinky goes back to his Lois and finds that she’s laid a bunch of Megs (eggs); dashing his plans for a better life of not having children. Gabby finds a Lois on the street that willingly re-enacts that famous photo of Lisa Simpson being kissed from the end of Bart the General. She’s a disreputable woman who slips something in Gabby’s drink, causing him to hallucinate French soldiers overrunning the streets. He goes on a killing spree, killing many of his fellow vets. He also fires a cannonball into the air, which we see flying through the background of many scenes.
Drinky is very depressed being forced to do expecting dad shit. Gabby winds up on the more-exciting track as a career criminal. He winds up trying to please a pair of jet-setting tomb-raiders who crave a hitman who can deliver a poetic revenge kill. Gabby’s methods are too low-brow for them, causing him to enlist Drinky’s help, who helps him step up his creativity. They wind up capturing the tomb raiding couple’s adversaries and connecting them to a complicated murder machine which involves urethra pinching.
Gabby has a funny plan that backfires; he poisons his targets and then injects their fingers with the antidote, thinking that they will have to eat their own fingers to get the antidote. They are quick to point out that eating the fingers won’t be necessary, since the antidote is still inside them, and working its way into their bloodstream as they speak.
Since Drinky helps Gabby, it’s only fair Gabby return the favor. Gabby helps Drinky get drunk at the baby shower, which causes him to cook his then-unhatched babies into an omelet. As trouble mounts for the duo, the previously-seen cannonball disrupts the signing of the official peace treaty. War’s back on, so luckily our plucky duo now have an excuse to flee back into combat. The final scene shows Drinky, Gabby, and a French combatant all uniting to flee their respective wives, who interrupt the war to chase them on a speedboat, each sitting atop a pile of freshly-laid eggs.
This one has at least one reference to a previous episode; when Gabby goes to jail he’s seen sitting next to the ogre whose part of a trio of conjoined triplets. That’s from the episode Organs. There might have been other references to previous episodes, but I’m too stupid to have picked them out.
That’s The Drinky Crow Show. I had seen only a handful of episodes before this project, and I think I have a newfound appreciation for it. The pilot episode still grates on me; the animation is too awful. The animation was markedly better in the series, thank god. I grew to appreciate Gabby’s voice, even though I initially criticized it for being too cartoony. I wish they got to do a second season. I wonder if Dino ever tried to pitch Millionaire and co. on trying to do this show as a stop-motion show? Sorry, that’s just a stray thought that just occurred to me while I was cleaning my suicide gun just now. I wish I could expand on it, but duty calls. Bye bye and RIP to me

Created by Eric Kaplan and Tony Millionaire, based on the latter’s comic strip Maakies which ran from 1994 until 2016, its a computer animated cel-shaded series aimed for adults. It’s rare to get CGI shows from adults…
The series is directed by Matt Danner and produced by Mirari Films and Williams Street. It aired on Adult Swim from November 23, 2008 to January 25, 2009. The theme song is preformed by They Might Be Giants, a band I only know for their guest appearance on Blue's Clues.
Curious to know what episode the band appeared in? It was in the episode Bluestock, which originally aired 11 days before I was born. Back on topic, I never read the comic or seen the show, but Henry reviewed it in his scorecard and thought it wasn’t good but gave him interest in the strip. As this was based on a strip, the jokes maybe better off as out of context clips. Funny as shitposts but not for TV.
Henry described the humor as sometimes funny but unfunny and edgy mostly. Reading the strip, he found the humor there funnier than this show. I’m curious on checking out both as their defiantly interesting to discuss, though I might read the strip first for better humor.

i doubt i ever showed these off, and these are old pictures, but throwback to when i got my hands on a delightful drinky crow vinyl figurine and shot glass set!
the creator tony millionaire and the johns are good friends! tony did a lot of fun artwork for mono puff which you can view on tmbw! (drinky crow is even on the so long mockingbird page!) and tmbg (or maybe flans? unsure) did the drinky crow show opening! and my very close friend phoebe got me a notebook and filled it with tmbg jokes for me…. and by chance, tony did the artwork for the notebook cover!!! what are the odds!!!!! i may have some other pictures of tmbg stuff around… i know i have some packed away but i have some neat stuff i think :)

where. there are ones like that that are very mainstream, yeah
then there are weird surreal shit like ATHF. some really intricate shows like Venture Bros and Ballmastrz 9009. some shows that Do have offensive shit but have so much more to them too as well like Superjail and Clone High. Shows that really pushed art style experimentation like Lazor Wulf and The Drinky Crow Show.
I know more adult animated shows that look cool more than I do ones that look bad??
what i need people to understand is that "art style ugly" is a dumb complaint. like. these cartoons arent going to be pretty like the owl house or steven universe(Which are very pretty!) because one of the purposes of an art style in a cartoon is to, at a glance, tell you what kind of show it is
example. you see any family-guy esque style and know it's gonna be a sitcom. You see Vbros and can tell immediately it heavily parodys adventure cartoons such as johnny quest. You look at lazor wulf and know its chill.
like. squidbillies would Not work if it was beautifully animated like some shows for kids. It is supposed to have that scribbly handdrawn look, hence why the backgrounds are also all hand painted.
like. art styles have a purpose. theyre not there to all look pretty. some are! and those work so well for the shows theyre in! but "ugly" art styles are just as meaningful and purposeful.
like...art styles in shows arent just. arbitrarily chosen.

hi lois. i am a big fan of adult animation and i just recalled some. have you ever tried stuff exclusive to adult swim? ik you talked about futurama which was temporarily theirs, but you might like some of their other shows, like aqua teen hunger force, boondocks, space ghost coast to coast, & more. maybe even more obscure selections like ballmastrz or 12 oz mouse or even the drinky crow show. ik family guy and other fox type shows are important to you but if youre ever looking to branch out (as i often do also being unemployed rn) i would rec these. sorry for the long message, have a nice day.

discovered recently that I am kin with, of ALL people, drinky crow (from the drinky crow show/maakies). this is my first confirmed fictionkin in YEARS... like four years... and it's some of the most genuine kin feelings I've had. like it doesn't feel like I'm forcing it to make other people happy (something that I have done, unfortunately)--this came 100% organically. not exactly a kin you want to be readily open about, but tbh I'm all right with that. I'm in my 30s now, I don't feel like suppressing stuff about myself anymore.

The Drinky Crow Show #10: “Aspire” | January 19, 2009 - 12:15AM | S01E09
This is a wild and wacky ride that takes some weird twists and turns. Gabby and Drinky are in trouble for allowing a french spy to get on the Captain's ship. Turns out said French Spy is one of Gabby’s girlfriends, who further uses him to get out of being executed by the Captain. By this I mean, he crawls up inside her womb to simulate a pregnancy. I told you this one was freaking weird!!!
Meanwhile, Captain’s daughter is miffed at being called unfunny (because she’s a girl!), so she enlists the help of a vampire comedian by inviting him onto the Captains boat for comedy lessons and consensual blood-letting. The count also complicates things by bringing his coffin on board and with it a swarm of rats that spread the deadly bubonic plague. Somehow it all peaks with observational stand-up comedy about vampires being performed inside Uncle Gabby’s rectum. Oh! Yeah! The vampire is voiced by Jackie Mason!
This really won me over. I was iffy on it at first but the part where Gabby pops out of his girlfriend’s birthing canal and brags about getting “all the placenta I can eat” and then chowing down on a big old placenta sandwich really made me laugh. It's honestly very easy to get jaded watching a lot of Adult Swim and it was nice not feeling that way. I laughed at the weird stoner stuff happening in front of me. It was nice.
The other joke I loved was the photo gag, where Captain is shuffling through a series of spy photos he found that are concurrently being added to in real time.
Speaking of FUNNY STUFF: Captain’s Daughter’s quest to become a Babs Bunny style funny lady is fine; at first I was afraid it was gonna be a South Parkian stab at satire but I don’t think they were actually trying to say anything with all that.
IMDB GOOF: “pregnant” bitch is seen not pregnant in one scene, briefly. It’s the scene when Drinky Crow is gonna put that goo on her stomach so your baby can be on TV. The doctor kind of those things, I mean. I forget the word for that. ULTRASOUND. I googled it.
EPHEMERA CORNER
Look Around You (January 19, 2009 - 1:00AM)
Robert Popper and Peter Serafinowicz created this wonderful program, whose first season was a lampoon of 70s/80s educational films, heavily resembling the films of the era. Each episode covers a particular topic that a typical science “module” might cover, but with weird stuff instead of facts. Also, each episode of the first season was 10 minutes long, basically already meeting the length requirements for a quarter-hour Adult Swim show.
The second series was also shown, but that series also had a format change that made the show a half hour edutainment magazine style show about popular scientific things. Those episodes aren’t quite as good, but they are still really great. I almost think one should watch series two first.
I love this show! I haven't seen it in ages. I really ought to watch it soon, maybe. Hmm?

they talked about 2000's kids shows on chuckle sandwich.
Yeah The Misadventures Of Flapjack was disturbing but you also have to remember that the kid was an orphan child found floating in the ocean that later got adopted by the talking whale, Knuckles the retired sea pirate was like a shitty step dad to that kid if anything.
I wouldn't say that the white van joke is out of the question because there were multiple episode plots revolving around kidnapping and slavery, and there were at least a few clear as day random creep encounters between scenes.
The main characters were homeless most of the time in the cartoon 1800's.
Having said this the eventually proven to be living candy statue of a human woman, Candy Wife who was married to the bar tender has to have be the most consistent horrifying thing in that show.
My hot take opinion is that Misadventures of Flapjack is like if the Dream SMP had to go through post production censorship and re-writing to be fed to children. It probably was slightly too tame to be on adult swim like how some other shows of the time were but was a good enough show that people still found a way to air it although altered slightly. I chose dsmp as an example because they could easily be combined into sharing the same universe with little to nothing changed.
I'm not arguing for a higher rating only because I believe Misadventures of Flapjack should not have been a kids show.
Also the adult swim show Drinky Crow should not have been a thing, it was not worth what was put into it.
