Harmony Gold is doing a panel at NYCC for Robotech, and honestly at this point, with Sony holding all the cards, all the licenses, making everyone come to the table and all the obvious legal obstacles gone, if they don't take some MCU supporting cast and one of the Stranger Things kids and go "You're Rick, you're Roy, and you're Max" (probably not Hikaru if it's a kid from Stranger Things), then they need to be legally barred from pretending the film will ever happen and just let Sony make Moribus 2: Re-Morbed or whatever the hell they think will keep the Spider-Man license.
There is nothing stopping the production from starting now besides laziness and incompetence, which between Harmony Gold and Sony, is in abundance.

What's the best watch order for macross for someone who's always meant to check it out out but never has, but now wants to but doesn't know where to start?
If by “best order” you mean you want to know how to watch each series so that you can go into each one understanding the connections to the other parts of the franchise, then it would absolutely be chronological order.
This would be SDF Macross > Macross Plus > Macross 7 > Macross Zero > Macross Frontier > Macross Delta.
When watching SDF, you’ll want to watch the movie Do You Remember Love? right after and the short OVA Flashback 2012 sometime before Delta.
Macross Plus has two versions, the OVA and the movie versions. You can watch either to experience the story. The OVA has more content while the movie is a shortened edit of the OVA, but has some original footage not seen in the OVA.
Macross 7 is long and while you’re watching it, you might want to watch the OVAs Macross 7 Plus and Macross 7 Encore. These take place during the series. Plus is a bunch of really small shorts while Encore is basically just three more episodes. And there’s the movie and Dynamite 7 OVA, which are also not super important so you can watch them whenever, but you might want to at least watch Dynamite 7 before Frontier.
Macross Zero is just an OVA series, but you’ll probably want to watch it before Frontier.
Frontier has two movies that you’ll want to watch because they seem to supersede the canon of the TV anime (still watch the anime too though since it has a lot of context for the movies). Labyrinth of Time is a short film that was recently released for Frontier over a decade after the last movie and you’ll definitely want to watch it sometime after movie 2 since it provides some closure. There’s also the FB 7 OVA which is really just a summary of Macross 7 told to the Frontier cast, but it has a new song and new footage of the characters.
Delta has two movies, one that tries to supersede the canon of the anime like the Frontier movies that reuses a lot of footage from the anime (but again, still watch the anime) and an original movie that definitively ends Delta. There are also some unimportant comedy OVAs.
There’s also Macross II, but it’s not canon so if you want to watch it, you can anytime after finishing SDF.

Immediately followed because you said you watched the original Macross series (though as someone who has watched absolutely everything Macross, I am curious what these "13 OVAs" are referring to)
Oh hey there! I've reblogged a bunch of stuff from you before, nice to see a follow! And 13 was just an exaggeration it just feels like I've watched that much. Lol
I've really only seen the original 1982 series, and the prequel movie and Do You Remember Love, and finished Macross Plus this morning, gonna start Macross 7 soon but I hear it's a season people either love or hate, but also hear the music is great so there's a big chance I'll probably be into it.

Weekly Anime Comic: Macross - page 25
Yeah, I really should have more of a plan in mind before I start referencing something in advance, shouldn't I?
But seriously, this is one of the most legendarily botched episodes of any major anime series.  It's probably a matter of personal judgement whether the art in this episode is actually worse than that of episode 13, but it certainly HURTS this episode much worse.  Between the inclusion of a knife fight, a space wedding, AND a dog fight, there's a whole of action in episode 25 that really REALLY needed the extra frames and on-model art that a top tier studio would have brought.  Instead... I don't actually know off the top of my head what studio this episode got outsourced to, but if it turns out they WEREN'T involved with some of those bootleg productions that Joseph Lai unleashed upon the world, I'd be legitimately shocked.
And yeah, speaking of which, if you DON'T know what "Space Thunder Kids" is... well, good for you.  See, there was a spate of animated movies where the Korean studios that the Japanese studios farmed their grunt work to (you know, in-betweens and the like) decided to up and make their own.  The end results could be charitably described as "unpolished."  Basically, imagine a whole movie animated like the knife fight.
By the way, I was TEMPTED to subvert expectations entirely and not even do a comic about the animation quality.  The other option was to say something cynical about this episode's themes of love and togetherness by bringing up Macross 7, but that'd be a little too mean-spirited even for me... by which I mean forcing other people to have to think about Macross 7.  To get that unpleasant thought out of your head, watch this.
Finally, don't forget that there's plenty of OTHER things up on Patreon right now, from a whole second ongoing series about Gunbuster to some preliminary voting on whether or not the NEXT Weekly Anime Comic should be about another Macross series or something else entirely.  So go on and become a patron if you want in!

Just caught up to the latest episode G-Witch (Episode 9)
But seriously, how does anyone actually get into the Gundam series? There are like 30 series/movies, and it's been going on since 1979! Even if I just wanted to watch the first series, that's like 43 episodes right there! I don't think I have the brain capacity! (You could potentially watch the three movies, which cut out the filler. But that's 3 entire movies worth of content!)
Last time I tried to get into a mecha series (Macross), I only got through the first series and the movie. My brain got sick of watching Macross lmao. Unless Gundam is just so damn good that I can't put it down, I feel like the same shit would happen.
Those Gundam toys must be incredibly profitable to fund that much Gundam content.
In case, you didn't believe me, here's some Gundam entries: Mobile Suit Gundam (43 episodes); Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam (50 episodes) ; Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ (47 episodes).
Then the movie Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack.
Then there's a bunch of OVAs. There's the 6 episode OVA - Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket. Then the 13 episode OVA. - Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory. Then the 12 episode OVA - Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team. Then the 3 episode OVA - Mobile Suit Gundam MS IGLOO: The Hidden One Year War. Then Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn (7 episode OVA). Then Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin (6 episode OVA). Thus ends the Universal Century time-line, and begins the Future Colony Time-line. That's already 10 different entires of Gundam.
Also this is not chronical to release date lmao.
For the Future Colony Time-line: Mobile Fighter G Gundam (49 episodes, Spring 1994).
Then the After Colony Time-line: Mobile Suit Gundam Wing (49 episodes, Spring 1995). Then the movie Mobile Suit Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz (August 1998).
Then the After War time-line: After War Gundam X (39 episodes, Spring 1996).
Then the Correct Century time-line: Turn a Gundam (50 episodes, Spring 1999)
Then the Cosmic Era: Mobile Suit Gundam SEED (50 episodes, Fall 2002) and Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny (50 episodes, Fall 2004)
There's also Anno Domini time-line (3 entries) , the Advanced Generation Time-line (1 entry), Gundam Build Fighters time-line (5 entries) , the Post-Disaster Time-line (2 entries), and finally AD Stella time-line where G-Witch takes place.
This was exhausting to type out lmao. Imagine watching all of that. It would take years. I wouldn't be surprised if Gundam had more episodes than One Piece.
According to Reddit, there's 676 episodes of the main time-line. And 270.4 hours of content.
Then 57.28333 hours of Gundam OVA content. Then 29 hours of movie content. Then 41 hours of fringe Gundam content.
That's 398.55 hours or ~16 days worth of content.
Nope 🙅‍♀️. I think I would become more Gundam than person after that. And people wonder why there aren't any western Gundam fans. 🙄
This also probably explains why Mecha is not as popular as it used to be lmao. What else can you possibly do with Giant Robots that hasn't been done before lmao?

Hello! Sorry if this is stupid, but I often like to watch a single ep before binging the whole thing. I hear the first third or so of Macross 7 is kinda fomulaic and slow (before it gets better) and it's a pretty long show, so I think about watching an ep before will make the binge more enjoyable. If you remember, what is the averagiest, most stand-alone ep? Thank you. Please, answer privately.
hmm, i'd say maybe check out the movie; The Galaxy Is Calling Me
it's supposed to take place way later in the show, but it's a stand-alone story, so it doesn't spoil the plot if you choose to watch it.
some concepts (powers and aliens) might be a bit confusing without the grounding provided by the show, but i think it gives a decent grasp of the world and characters. it does largely focus on basara and a new movie-only character though, so you don't really get to see much of the other main characters and their interactions.
i'd say it's relatively plot-detached story is probably a decent test drive for macross 7 tho! <:

Just some incoherent rambling about Zettai Live
I’m a bit new to this site, but also I watched Zettai Live recently (not today, but it was this week and it’s been pretty much dominating my brain since) and I need a space to ramble about it.
I’m generally in the camp that didn’t like Macross Delta all that much. It wasn’t a bad show, and I’d be hard-pressed to say I dislike it, but it was also really flawed, especially in the character department, given that the only cast members I really cared about were Mirage and Messer. The fact that I watched it immediately after I did Macross Frontier (which is pretty much one of the greatest anime to ever exist) was also probably a big factor.
This movie, however, fixed all that. Freyja got a really engaging arc about her oncoming death which made me sympathize with her, gave her a number of great moments, especially towards the end, and reminded me of Sheryl Nome (my favorite Macros character)
After a whole series of being done dirty, my girl Mirage also finally got a share of the spotlight. She may not have won the love triangle, but her learning to be a leader was pretty cool in its own right and helped separate her from the rest of the pilots in the show
My Boi Max finally made his reappearance. He was just as cool in this as he was in 7, SDF, and DYRL. And Excedol was there too! Also, this now means that Frontier is the only Macross TV show which hasn’t had Max play a major role
Yami_Q_Ray was fucking epic and all their songs rock
That finale had no right to be as hype as it was. Pretty much everything about those last 20 minutes or so had me jumping out of my seat
This movie’s entire soundtrack was just great. Walkure wa Akiramenai is my new favorite Delta song
So, yeah, it’s my new 3rd favorite Macross movie, displacing DYRL
