Was very excited to try the kitzconcept vf-1 series. Read whatever reviews I could find and the negatives I found I was either ok with or didn't think the comparisons being made were fair.
Saw several folk compare it to a something that costs triple, well yeah I'd expect that one to be better.
Some compared it to a transformer which aside from the 1982 toys, they've never been made by any company as a toy but as a "collectible"
Which has been the problem in my opinion with macross toys in general. The companies and Fandom seem to have this absolute obsession with everything being as close to the line art as possible to the detriment of something I can fly around my living room.
Personally I just want something I can transform reasonably quickly, that doesn't require any parts removal or swapping to transform. (and doesn't cost hundreds of dollars for a single unit)
With all of that in mind and the price of kitzconcept on sale I thought this would be a good avenue, and it would have been... If the leg didn't snap off when turning it into fighter mode for the first time. Looks like a very thin plastic peg is all that holds it on and that snapped.
I have some hi metal r, but I think for what I paid there's too many compromises, as again I hate parts swapping.
Someone please just give me a reasonably accurate macross jet that's built like a transformer.
Bandai please bring back or just slightly update the old 1/55 scale toys.

Going really retro this week with some classic comic books. Robotech: Invid War is an early 90’s comic that expands on the stories of the original 80’s anime series.
I’ll just get this out of the way up front - I’m a fan of all things ‘mecha’ related. Movies, TV shows, books, comics, the lot. If it involves giant robots, especially in the classic japanese style, I’m down for it. Yes, that includes Pacific Rim in its various iterations. And maybe even ‘Atlantic Rim’ films when I’m in the mood for films so bad they’re entertaining.
Robotech is a classic example of that late 20th century period where American television networks aired Japanese anime recut and redubbed to fill early morning or late afternoon time slots. In the 1990s, these classics found their way to VHS cassette, then in the 2000s, anime lovers sought them out on DVD or torrent sites. Now they’ve made it to various streaming sites.
But nothing beats the thrill of finding original comics…
I was browsing through one of my favourite second hand bookstores when I stumbled across two bound volumes of Robotech comics. It's been a long time since I’d watched any of the series, but I immediately fell in love with these beautifully preserved volumes of original comics.
‘Robotech: Invid War’ tells the story of the fight against the Invid. The plot of the comics skips about a bit since it’s interwoven with the original animated series. Yes, every edition of the comic is in this collection, so there is a complete story. But the story for me was secondary to the joy of finding a classic 90’s anime/mecha comic and just soaking in the comic book style and artwork of that era. Oh - and the throwback 90’s advertising!
This collection of comics is both niche and unique. It’s something of a collector item, although something collected for the love of what it is rather than the monetary value. For that reason it’s not a book I can recommend you go out and buy since you’ll more likely need to buy the individual comics.
Rather, my recommendation is to keep on visiting and supporting those second hand books stores that still exist. Help keep them alive and thriving because you never quite know what treasures they might hold.

Rewatching Aliens and on top of the film’s other good qualities, I really like Bishop: his mannerisms still remind me a lot of myself as an autistic person, even if that wasn’t the intention—and he’s oddly adorable, which I certainly am not.
(Also the SD toys of him look like crap, because trying to chibify real people doesn’t tend to end well.)
And am I crazy, or does Lance Henriksen looks a lot like Sentinels Exedore, especially as the Waltrips drew him? I’m not saying it’s intentional, but sometimes I wonder, given that Aliens preceded Sentinels by two-ish years?? And note that I drew on my autistic experiences writing Exedore back in the day, so it sort of comes back around.

Sure. Let's take the notorious rights minefield that's Macross and add freaking Disney to the mix. Note that the original international rights do not include the original Macross (which Harmony Gold has a claim on via certain characters) and DYRL (which no one can untie the Gordian Knot of right's BS concerning).
I'll laugh if that upcoming Macross series is a reboot, Disney airs that, and they're the ones with a claim to a Macross movie while Robotech continues to stew in its endless development hell.
