"The Slayer Queen"
Look, don't ask me, okay? I had a dream about Lucy as this crime queen and Orchid encourages all of my insanity. I love what this idea is becoming. /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\ He’d been following her for months. He hadn’t gained notoriety as one of the most successful hitmen by being underprepared. He didn’t understand why someone would want the runaway daughter of a business tycoon dead, but that wasn’t really his concern. They didn’t pay him to understand, they paid him for results.
Nothing had been left up to chance. He’d memorized her routine, including the days she was likely to deviate from it, and where those deviations took her. He’d chosen the best location to act, out of the way so they wouldn’t be heard on the off-chance she managed to struggle, but close enough to her normal routes that she wouldn’t be missed too soon. He knew what bus routes she took, and what might cause her to call an Uber instead. He’d gathered all the information he needed to make this kidnapping a success, just like all of his previous jobs. Nothing was out of place.
So how had he ended up as the one tied to a chair in some dingy, mold-ridden basement, with the pretty blonde smiling sweetly down at him? He dragged his tongue over his swollen lip, wrinkled his nose at the taste of blood, and shook away the grogginess filling his brain. Turning his attention back to the girl, he frowned. “How?”
She raised a perfectly groomed brow and bent at the waist to bring her face to his level. “That isn’t usually the first question they ask. You’re different.”
He let out a gruff chuckle and bared his teeth at her in a grim approximation of a smile. “What do they usually ask?”
She gave him a soft smile. He might have called it tender, or innocent if it weren’t for the butterfly knife she was twirling between her fingers deftly.  “They always want to know why for some reason. As though they haven’t been stalking me for weeks or months at a time.” She stood up and moved to drape herself sideways in the armchair across from him.
“I will say, you’re the first one who seems to know what he’s doing. Usually, they don’t pay attention to their shadows, or their reflection. I think I must have missed you for about a week before I finally caught on,” she said with a giggle.
He frowned to himself, twisting his wrists against their binding. To his displeasure, he felt a surge of admiration for the girl’s abilities. The ropes were smooth enough not to leave any imprints that might serve as evidence, but strong enough that he couldn’t break through them with his strength. Another twist confirmed that her knot-tying skills were superb as well. /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\
Family will be arriving next Wednesday, so just in case I forget to post, I want to wish you all a very happy and safe holiday in whatever way you choose to celebrate (or not)!

Things are still not great in the Shade Manor.
This is a direct continuation of this post. Everything is just a reimagining and very much inspired by the game Hollow Knight. But at this point there is nothing in common with the game, I was just inspired by the characters to create an AU.
Note: I took plenty of liberties and changed a lot of things, such as the Radiance and Grimm now being twin siblings named Lucy and Gilbert. Both are born humans. While the Shade Lord is their uncle who is currently their guardian after the parents of the twins died. The Uncle is also the owner of a huge Victorian colonial style Mansion which is aptly called the "Shade Manor". So that makes the Lord who owns it the "Shade Lord".
All credits goes to Team Cherry, and the other stuff I took inspiration from.
Even after 5 years of living under the same roof. Lucy's relationship with her uncle didn't get any better.
She is still not used to the strict rules of the Manor that are in her words are "snotty and outdated".
Every evening they are not allowed to go out to the grounds and must go to bed at 9 pm sharp, the silence and lack of life during dinner time, the full and dark clothes her uncle buys for her. Her uncle's lack of humor and how he can talk without even looking at them. He does not always maintains eye contact when he talks, but is reading some old book from his personal library. She find this just rude and very unfriendly.
Their relationship further deteriorated when Lucy deliberately throw tantrums and break items, even if her uncle will punishment her for it. She knows what she is doing is not good, but she don't really care cause for her the pros outweigh the consequences. In her eyes the action is an empowerment of self-expression and her individual freedom.
Which will be ironic when in the future, she starts oppressing other people in favor of her own ideals and interests.
As an act of defiance and rebellion, the framed blue butterflies hung on the wall were thrown out the window and to the front garden. She says that framing beautiful creatures in boxes for display is just cruel and that she is freeing the creatures from their prison.
She also vandalized the large Grandfather clock with spray paint and chipped away all the ivory bug carvings on the face with a knife, she argues saying she is adding more light to the dull thing by adding more color and removing all the unpleasant and icky bugs on it. Just to spite her uncle, she also tampered with the internal clock mechanism so much that it can never work anymore.
But the last straw was when she caught trying to make a bonfire inside the main Hall where the timeless chandelier was.
As punishment, the Shady "Uncle" would lock Lucy in the basement closet for a day with no food.
Gilbert was not happy with this treatment to her sister and together, both of them planned to runaway.
For the next few days they prepared all their clothes, collected enough money to last them a month or more. They intend to return back to their late parents home, which is 2 towns away.
One day when Lucy was having another of her act of defiance, after her uncle forbid her from going out to a party past 9 pm. This time she is about to throw hot rocks at the chandelier using a slingshot.
She was seen by the house help, who would rather avoid Lucy when she is like this. The help reported it to the Lord of the Manor and he is enraged with his "niece".
Though the help is naturally terrified of his employer. He never sleeps in the manor, He rents an apartment outside the Manor grounds, and walk every morning to the front gate. The Manor owner never harmed him for the wrong reasons nor was abusive. The Help does thinks his boss is intimidating, but as long as he does his job well, his employer will not scold him. The help is also receiving a huge monthly salary, way larger than what is normally given to most housekeepers so he is not complaining.
As punishment, Lucy's Uncle slapped her face twice so hard it actually bleed and he locked her again in the basement closet with no food. Saying he will only release her the next day.
It was then that the Gilbert decided to interfere, enacting their planned runaway.
While their Uncle was at his study desk in his basement library as usual, clearly trying to calm down after Lucy's actions. Gilbert carefully entered the library and stayed there pretending to read for an hour, then he approach his uncle asking if he can get a specific book that he learned is only found in the 3rd level basement.
His Uncle is surprised at Gilberts interest. The two are more like strangers even though they lived together.
While Lucy despises her Uncle, Gilberts just quietly tolerates him. The Manor Lord is also very aware that the twins are much more comfortable when he is not in the room. This results in a huge gap between them and this saddens the Lord of the Manor greatly.
Between the two twins, the Shady "Uncle" does like Gilbert more than Lucy, since he is much more behaved and does not complain loudly over his dark cloths. Gilbert also shows greater appreciation to the artifacts and interior architecture of the Manor.
Gilbert's Uncle is oddly wary on why his "nephew" is suddenly approaching him, but is more happy that he may have a chance to bond with his "nephew".
Heading to towards the stair case that descends further to the floors below, he was only able to go 2 steps when he was suddenly hit on the back of his head hard with a chair.
The Lord of the Manor instantly lost consciousness and went tumbling down the staircase till he hit the 2nd sub basement with a thud. A small amount of blood starting to drip down his wound and pooling on the carpeted floor.
Gilbert first checked if his uncle is still awake, before quickly freeing Lucy from the closet using the key on his uncle's study desk. If Gilbert stayed longer, he would have noticed the void black swirls in the blood pool, flowing upward toward the open wound on the unconscious man's head
The twins quickly get their clothes and raid their uncles desk for his credit card and other important document they might need for their future.
For good measure and a last act of rebellion before they permanently leave, Lucy douse the floor of the 1st level basement with vodka she got from their uncle's alcohol cabinet and throw a lit match. The resulting fire destroyed the study desks, pillows and all the books their uncle bought for them.
After some hours, the unconscious Lord woke up with his head wound completely healed. He is still dazed and have a splitting headache from the sudden attack, but he pieced together what happened. His own nephew attacked him from behind.
He quickly ran back upstairs and is greeted with a charred room, the remains of the books and desks burned to a crisp and the metal wall lamps are now black and lost it's luster. The closet room where Lucy was locked is also wide open.
He can't help but be shocked and very furious at this, but most of all he felt deeply betrayed at this abandonment by his own family. Just like their father, the twins left him.
Once the help arrived the next morning, he felt the whole manor is freezing, like he is inside a refrigerator. And the whole Manor seems way darker than usual. The air is so dense he can barely breath properly.
He can also smell the remains of something burning. Walking inside, he is already dreading what Lucy have done this time, cause he will have to clean it up. She is nice to him even though she complains about her uncle. Usually she would be lounging in the Entrance Sitting room, the brightest in the Manor. He started his way there.
It is one of the few areas where her uncle would actually allow the window curtains to be drawn back, allowing natural sunlight in. The Help is always amazed at how the rooms feels so different if you can actually see all the architectural details, the antique furniture and all the priceless trinkets that hung on the wall.
Instead He is greeted with his employer sitting stiffly in the said Sitting room, this time all the curtains are closed and the whole room is blanketed in a wave of pure darkness so thick he thought he will go blind if he stared at the dark corners to long.
Sitting down, he was told that by tomorrow his services will not be needed but he will be compensated with a huge retirement pay for his years of loyalty, which will be forwarded to his bank account. He was also silently threatened to never tell anyone any information regarding the Manor, what he saw inside, it's owner or any of the twins. The Help is promised a huge sum for the silence but for good measure, the Lord kindly suggested he return to his home country if he can.
After that incredibly scary encounter, the Help was allowed to leave early. He never felt happier than when he left the manor and away from it's very uncomfortable atmosphere. It took all his nerves to calmly lock the front gate and leaving the key on the lock, he expects the Lord to come outside to retrieve it later.
Once he was a few meters from the entrance, he felt a huge silent wave coming from the Manor's direction. There is no noise or wind disrupting the air, but for a split second he felt an intense weight on his chest that froze him on the spot, sudden pain like someone is ripping his heart out from his chest.
He can only describe it as a mix of pure hate, sadness so uncontrollable and a paralyzing pain he never felt before.
Actually, he did felt a similar pain. When he was 10 in his home country, he witnessed his father leave and his mother crying on the sofa. But that memory is just a small pinch compared to how agonizing he is feeling right now.
He quickly ran as fast as he can back to his rented apartment and practically collapse on the floor after closing the door behind him. Unable to move for hours until the pain subsided.
He is still shaken by his experience when he starts packing his things, and preparing a letter to the Land lord. Instructing him to sell all of the thing in his room once he leaves.
Sure enough, the next day he checked his back account and saw almost 8 digits on his balance. He moved to the next town and got a part-time job at a convenience store.
He does have enough money that he don't really need to work full-time anymore. But He needs some time to reflect if he wants to continue working or return to his home country and start a business there. Also he needs to clear his head on what happened recently when he left the Manor gates.
After a month, he decided to follow his former employer's suggestion and return home back to his aging mother. Though he will need to come up with an excuse on why he is returning, and why he is practically a millionaire now in his home currency. Maybe he will just tell her that he won a lottery and wanted to avoid the nosy press so everything is kept secret. He never did told his mother about his creepy employer, it was part of the contract that he never disclose anything about his boss to anyone.
Though he did swore that he will never tell what he experience and anything related to the Manor he previously worked in. He will never forget what happened, especially the last moments facing his employer in that black hole of a room.

My Top 10 Albums of 2018
If you know me well, you know I do this every year. It’s not in the hope that people will read it; more a sort of time capsule that I can look back on in the future and fondly remember the music that soundtracked my year. Some years, there’s a clear and obvious number one (Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp a Butterfly in 2015, for example). Others – such as this one – are more of a close-run thing, with the top spots changing sometimes as late as the writing process.
Before I get to my top ten, I would be remiss not to mention a few albums that missed out but have nonetheless been regulars in my rotation this year. Firstly, I should tip my cap to the experimentation shown by Beach House, Ben Howard, and Low, all of whom showed a refreshing intent to break from their norm and make some greatly interesting music. I’m also acutely aware of the lack of representation for R&B and hip-hop in my top ten – I didn’t ignore these genres, it just so happened that they weren’t among my ten favourites. Kids See Ghosts and Earl Sweatshirt in particular came close, and Janelle Monáe was another that I enjoyed greatly. Here’s my honourable mentions list in full:
Beach House – 7; Ben Howard – Noonday Dream; Low – Double Negative; Janelle Monáe – Dirty Computer; Brockhampton – Iridescence; Anderson .Paak – Oxnard; Villagers – The Art of Pretending to Swim; Jeff Tweedy – WARM; Matt Maltese – Bad Contestant; Kids See Ghosts – Kids See Ghosts; Pusha T – Daytona; Earl Sweatshirt – Some Rap Songs; Parquet Courts – Wide Awake; Kurt Vile – Bottle It In; The Beths – Future Me Hates Me; Jungle – For Ever; Courtney Barnett – Tell Me How You Really Feel; Mitski – Be The Cowboy; Hop Along – Bark Your Head Off Dog; Lucy Dacus – Historian.
Also, here’s a Spotify playlist of all my favourite tracks from the year.
Now on to the top ten…
10. Blood Orange – Negro Swan
I’ve got a soft spot for a true album – one that’s greater than the sum of its parts, and should be listened to as a whole. There are actually very few tracks on Negro Swan that hit home outside the context of the album. But there’s so much to like here: the way tracks flow into each other, punctuated by regular snippets of dialogue from the likes of transgender activist Janet Mock. The word that defines this album is ‘introspection’ – there are regular references to the desire to be loved and the fear of allowing oneself to be loved completely. At times the tracks feel frustratingly unfinished, and that’s all that keeps this at the back end of my top ten.
Highlights: ‘Saint’, ‘Charcoal Baby’, ‘Nappy Wonder’
9. Snail Mail – Lush
It’s been a hell of a year for young, female indie rockers (more on that later…), and Lindsey Jordan (A.K.A. Snail Mail) is perhaps the most prodigious of them all. The teenager’s debut, Lush, is a highly impressive record that showcases her signature sound: subtle, twinkly guitar melodies and foot-tapping drum beats. It tails off a little towards the back end of the album, as the novelty of her style begins to wear off. You wonder if this was a record she rushed into making, to capitalise on the considerable hype around her. If that’s the case, it’s a shame as a few more songs to the standard of ‘Pristine’ and ‘Heat Wave’ may have pushed this album up into my top five.
Highlights: ‘Pristine’, ‘Heat Wave’, ‘Stick’
8. The 1975 – A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships
This album is getting a lot of love, and I’ll admit that on first listen I didn’t get the hype. The 1975 are a somewhat controversial band – they face lavish praise and upturned noses in seemingly equal measure. There were moments of their absurdly-titled previous record that I liked, but their overly synthetic sound and Matty Healy’s unique vocal style are occasionally grating. ABIIOR has its flaws, but there’s also much to admire. They’ve incorporated a variety of styles, from stripped-back acoustic to arena pop and even jazz. The obvious themes of life and love in a digital age are well-explored and the production is, at times, gorgeous. Stick with it – it might just grow on you.
Highlights: ‘Love It If We Made It’, ‘Inside Your Mind’, ‘I Always Wanna Die (Sometimes)’
7. U.S. Girls – In A Poem Unlimited
In many ways, this record is a better executed version of the 1975’s. Meg Remy looks at similar themes of our problematic modern world, though in her case she explores them through a lens of feminine anger. Songs like ‘Rage of Plastics’ and ‘M.A.H.’ are direct, furious tirades towards American politics in the Obama era. The instrumentation and production is staggeringly brilliant throughout, with each track demonstrating a different string from Remy’s bow. On ‘Rosebud’, she channels her inner Madonna to produce one of the finest, most listenable indie pop tunes of the year.
Highlights: ‘M.A.H.’, ‘Rosebud’, ‘L-Over’
6. Maribou State – Kingdoms In Colour
My favourite electronic album of the year, Kingdoms In Colour improves on Maribou State’s encouraging debut, 2015’s Portraits. The improvements lie in their balance between the dance-pop hits, where they utilise long-time collaborator Holly Walker on vocals, and the more experimental, sample-based pieces that make up the rest of the album. It’s the latter that leave the most lasting impression, no better than on ‘Vale’, with the sample of Melanie de Baliso’s ‘I Feel You’ dovetailing beautifully with the group’s accompanying melody. If you’re looking for an album to put on as a backing track at your next party, look no further.
Highlights: ‘Beginner’s Luck’, ‘Nervous Tics’, ‘Vale’
5. Big Red Machine – Big Red Machine
A collaboration between Bon Iver and the National was never going to be bad, was it? Big Red Machine doesn’t quite hit the heights you might expect from such a high-profile meeting of minds, but there are enough moments of genius here to make it an album worth revisiting repeatedly. For the most part, Justin Vernon leaves his trademark complex song structures at the door in favour of simpler, more lineal compositions. This leads to some tracks feeling repetitive at times, although even these feature a central hook strong enough to keep you interested. And on 'Lyla', with its polyrhythms and meandering structure, there are hints of the exciting fruits this partnership could eventually produce.
Highlights: ‘Lyla’, ‘Hymnostic’, ‘I Won’t Run From It’
4. Arctic Monkeys – Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino
Perhaps Arctic Monkeys’ most divisive album since Humbug, TBHAC is also their bravest and most ambitious. It’s essentially a concept album – tales of a futuristic hotel on the moon brought to life by Alex Turner’s controversial switch from guitar to piano. It’s no surprise that the album has alienated some of the band’s more fundamentalist fans, as there’s a blatant lack of Turner’s usual indie dancefloor hits as well as a side-lining of outstanding drummer Matt Helders. Instead, we’re treated to songs without clear structures and, aside from ‘Four Out Of Five’, catchy choruses. Turner occasionally strays too far towards self-indulgence (‘Batphone’ is a difficult listen), but he’s still a remarkable lyricist and he’s produced an album that cements their status as the band of their era.
Highlights: ‘Star Treatment’, ‘American Sports’, ‘Four Out Of Five’
3. boygenius – boygenius EP
I may be cheating a tad here by including an EP, but given that there’s as much to enjoy here as on many fine albums released this year, you’ll excuse me. boygenius are a supergroup of sorts, featuring female up-and-comers Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers, and Lucy Dacus. Individually, all three are well worth a listen. But their collaborative EP propels them to new heights. Each has their own songwriting moments (two each from the six-track EP), and these intertwine through stunning vocal harmonies to form a completely cohesive collection of songs. The finest moments are Bridgers’, with her soft vocal timbre particularly captivating on ‘Me And My Dog’. We can only hope the success of this experiment results in a full-length album in 2019.
Highlights: ‘Me And My Dog’, ‘Souvenir’, ‘Ketchum, ID’
2. Kacey Musgraves – Golden Hour
No album surprised me more in 2018 than this one. After a slew of out-of-this-world reviews, I decided I had to give Golden Hour at least one listen – if only to be able to confirm it as what almost all country pop albums are: ‘not for me’. The thing is, this record transcends genre, and even those who like neither country nor pop will appreciate its beauty and the quality of its songs. Everything on Golden Hour is well-executed: Musgraves sings beautifully; the instrumentation feels minimal yet rounded; the production is absolutely on-point; and the melodies are to die for. There are even psychedelic elements throughout – nods to Musgraves’ use of acid during the album’s production. Give this album a chance, leave your prejudices at the door, and you’ll be treated to a simply perfect collection of pop songs.
Highlights: ‘Slow Burn’, ‘Wonder Woman’, ‘High Horse’
1. Soccer Mommy – Clean
As I mentioned, this wasn’t a runaway number one. But the more I re-listened to my shortlist, the more it became clear that Clean was the strongest candidate for top spot. Snail Mail and boygenius have already taken spots in my top ten, demonstrating what a strong year it has been for female indie vocalists. But Soccer Mommy’s (Sophie Allison’s) album just feels like the finished product that both Snail Mail and boygenius are aiming to eventually produce.
Clean doesn’t just contain great songs with deliciously spiky lyrics (the opening line of ‘Your Dog’ is a belter), it also feels so well balanced. Laid-back, melancholy tunes like ‘Still Clean’ and ‘Blossom’ are countered by catchy indie numbers like ‘Cool’ and ‘Skin’. Allison’s voice seems refined too – perfectly able to handle those two ends of the spectrum. Considering the album centres on a feeling of teenage angst, the sound feels remarkably mature. It’s a worthy album of the year.
Highlights: ‘Cool’, ‘Skin’, ‘Blossom (Wasting All My Time)’

Cyber Space is Always Sweeter : Chapter 9
Summary: Lucy is a down to Earth, studious, responsible runaway attending Magnolia College. Natsu is a rambunctious, intelligent, pyrophilic fraternity boy going to the same school.
They don’t exactly run in the same circles and they have one hell of a history. What happens when the names and facades disappear and all that’s left are words blinking on a screen? Modern day, College/Pen Pals AU. I’m sorry I suck at intros. Rated M for Language, Adult Situations, and future sexual situations. Chapters 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8
WARNING: Depictions of hazing ahead.
“A-are you sure about this, Milady?”
Minerva sneered at Lucy’s hesitation. The blonde bimbo was really starting to get on her nerves, regardless of whether Lucy was a Generational or not. The agitation in the black-haired woman’s voice rang clear in the bedroom of the sorority house while she fixed the freshman’s makeup.
“Absolutely positive,” Milady replied coldly, finishing the last swipe of crimson lipstick. At least Lucy looked cheap. The elder woman stood back to “admire her work” and grinned devilishly.  “Remember, Dragneel said he thought you were super hot. Gotta accentuate your natural gifts.”
Lucy turned red under such scrutiny. When she'd gone to Minerva and she had agreed to help the young girl, she'd imagined it going differently. The doe-eyed freshman had seen Natsu Dragneel at a party during her Rush week and ever since, he was all she could think about. His handsome emerald eyes, his attention-grabbing head of salmon hair. She'd gone to Milady after prodding from Levy, saying that the one sister a Pledge could trust was her Pledge Coach. Gods how wrong her best friend had been.
Minerva excused herself to peek into the room next door to Minerva’s, the door marked “Lisanna”. Lucy could hear her sickeningly sweet voice placating Natsu, saying that she was almost ready. The blonde couldn't help but smile when she heard how restless he was while waiting for her. She was finally going to get to meet the guy she'd been practically drooling over for weeks, and he was just as impatient to see her. The butterflies in her stomach could barely be contained.
Milady came back into sight and motioned for Lucy to stand. She tenderly tucked a strand of golden hair behind the freshman’s ear before speaking again. “Ready to meet Prince Charming, LuLu?” she teased, squeezing Lucy’s shoulders. Without further warning, the older woman dragged the younger suddenly to the other room, pushed her inside, and slammed the door shut.
“H-hi there,” she stammered awkwardly, her gaze shifting about the room as she desperately tried to cover up the places on her body that were exposed by the lingerie she was wearing. “It's so great to finally meet you, Natsu.” She watched as his eyes took in the sight of her, hoping to see some sort of excitement bubbling in them but was only met by confusion.
“I'm sorry, but who are you?”
Lucy shook herself awake, realizing the laptop was still in her bed only mere seconds before it was destined to hit the ground. It seemed to have died overnight so she plugged it into the cord snaked across her desk while rolling herself out of bed. She had stayed awake for hours talking to Dragon, going as far as to tell him (vaguely) about her past. It felt nice to talk to someone about it that wasn’t Levy, as much as she loved her bookish friend.
Not to mention, flirting with her cyber acquaintance was fun in its own right. It had felt so different from the normal attention she got from the opposite sex. She chalked it up to the fact that Dragon had absolutely no idea what she looked like. He couldn’t drool over her curves, couldn’t stare at her like she was a piece of meat up for auction. She took solace in the fact that every compliment he gave was based on her personality and not just her looks. Her mind soon began to wander as she thought about her cyber-friend. What did he look like? Were his eyes kind or piercing? Was he a blond like her or maybe brunet? She pictured a chiseled frame standing before her, muscles defined and cut in all the right places. The freshman shook her head as if trying to shake the image loose, immediately attempting to rein herself in.
Looking at the clock, Lucy realized she had a couple hours before her Chemistry lecture. She sighed but quickly realized that after class, she’d be done with Chemistry for the week. That also meant that she wouldn’t have to see Natsu again until Monday, which was somewhat of a relief. Part of her still felt something and that complicated things heavily. How was she supposed to focus in a difficult class if she had to worry about running into him three days a week? She had thought originally that she could handle it, but maybe she was in over her head a bit. If their little moment in the lab meant anything, it certainly meant that. The freshman groaned aloud as her frustration grew.
Lucy decided that in order to eat up her time she’d throw on her black striped yoga pants with a bright blue sports bra and run to the gym to use the studio. She laced up her sneakers, set her iPod to her favorite blood-pumping playlist, and quickly made off for the university gymnasium on the other side of campus. Cutting through the ancient brick and ivy buildings, feeling her heart race in her chest, the freshman let the worries of the past two days melt away along with the anxiety of the semester to come. It didn’t take her long to make it to the gym, showing her ID to the red-headed attendant at the front desk.
“Is anyone is the kickboxing studio?” Lucy chirped, tightening her ponytail. Her chest was still heaving slightly from the run.
The attendant, wearing a tag with the name “Loke” etched into it, grinned lazily at the beautiful woman across the counter. “Not yet, gorgeous,” he oozed, causing Lucy to roll her eyes. “There’s a class in an hour though.” Even though his eyes were shielded by sunglasses she could still make out his gaze making its way across her form. “I can arrange for someone to take my place if you need someone to hold the bags for you.”
Lucy cringed. Did he really think that was going to work? “No thank you, but thanks for the info,” she replied as respectfully as she could. She was still a lady after all.
Making her way up the stairs, the blonde bombshell entered the kickboxing studio and breathed in heavily. She quickly found the tape and bound her hands in record time. As she started her combos into the hanging bag, she was reminded of her time back at the manor. Capricorn, her father’s Head of Security, had stressed the importance of self-defense and discipline, insisting she take up a form of martial arts at a young age. She’d tried a majority of them and eventually settled for kickboxing, feeling that it suited Capricorn’s desire for protection and strength training. The young woman’s heart ached as she thought of the people she’d left behind, the people who had helped raise her mother and then her after her mother’s passing. People like Capricorn were the only thing she missed about home.
Lucy continued on for the full hour until the next class started arriving. Making quick work cleaning up after herself, she ran back to her dorm, showered, and dressed for class. She felt better after her morning workout, promising herself to do it more often, and lecture with Natsu didn’t seem half bad. Walking down to the sidewalk before her building, Lucy smiled when she found Levy waiting for her, coffee cups and all.
The freshman recounted the events of her night to her best friend, making sure to tell the bluenette about her conversation with Dragon. She was immediately greeted by a bombardment of questions about him, if they’d shared any more personal information like names, etc. Lucy had to giggle at the fact that she barely got a word in edgewise by the time they’d reached the door to the lecture hall. Students had already begun filing in and Levy noticed that the same seats the two had occupied during the last session were still open, so they made their way to what was now ‘their’ seats.
Lucy looked up and immediately noticed a certain graduate student’s sights on her from the desk at the front corner of the hall. His gaze was warm yet guarded but locked on her, making the blonde blush profusely. A couple months prior and she would have given practically anything for Natsu to look at her like that. It made her stomach flutter. She didn’t break their staring match until she heard the professor start and allowed herself to be absorbed by the class material.
Unfortunately, her focused concentration wasn’t enough. Lucy could barely understand the material presented. Glancing over at Levy’s notebook it seemed like the freshman was alone in her inability to comprehend the lesson. She’d lost all track of time and before long, the lecture was over, the students once again filing out to get on with their days. Levy abruptly rose from the table and excused herself, citing an impending “appointment” with Gajeel and left Lucy standing alone in the lecture hall. Looking over the whiteboard made her shudder. There in bright red ink read the following:

Hello! Congratulations on your follower milestone! :D I was wondering if you could share your thoughts on the Eighth Doctor's Big Finish run, specifically which companions/stories are your favourites? I've finished Lucie Miller's series and am currently making my way through the Charley/C'rizz stories, but I know I still have lots to look forward to! :)
My main thought about the Eighth Doctor’s Big Finish run is basically incoherent squee-ing because Paul McGann is so good oh my gosh can you believe we almost only ever had one story where he played the Doctor????? Also, if you don’t listen to the Extras you really should, because he’s a giant dork who really likes the lunches.
Which companions and stories are my favourites? Well, this should really come as no surprise to anybody at this point, but Doom Coalition is flipping amazing, and Liv and Helen, who are the companions for that sprawling 16-episode feast of awesomeness are the absolute best. I mean I love Eight and Charley, and C’rizz is a terrifying cinnamon roll, but the dynamic between Eight and Liv and Helen (and sometimes River) is on a whole other level. Let me explain.
So Eight’s characterization in both the books and audios is notoriously inconsistent, right? I choose to see this as actually a feature of his Doctor and not a bug in the writing (this is also the opinion endorsed in Caerdroia, which you may or may not have listened to yet). He is both a very cuddly butterfly-chasing Tigger and a sarcastic, snark-tastic Grump, and he is both one of the most human Doctors and one of the most alien (like he relates to sentient jellyfish just as much as, and possibly more than, he relates to his fellow bipeds from planet Earth). He oscillates between these extremes. With Charley and C’rizz, he mostly gets away with it, because they are both very much portrayed as ingénues, even after Charley has been traveling with the Doctor for quite a long time, and even though C’rizz has some quite extraordinary life experience before he even meets Team TARDIS. Charley and the Doctor are one of my favorite QPP (queerplatonic pairings) in Doctor Who, but good grief, it’s not even close to being a relationship of equals, and often veers right over into twee territory.
Lucie is more willing to call the Doctor out on his crap, and there is absolutely nothing twee about their dynamic. But Lucie is still very much a novice; she’s kind of a proto-Donna. And just like I initially didn’t like how combative the Doctor’s relationship with Donna was (in Runaway Bride), in the first series of the Lucie Miller audios, I really didn’t like how snarky Lucie and the Doctor were with each other. It made for some good banter, but it’s not my cuppa. The dynamic got better in the second, third, and fourth seasons with this team, and by the end I was really sad to see her go (like Donna level sads, and Donna is tied with Clara for my favorite new series companion). Lucie comes into her own with a bang in the end, but again, it’s never anywhere close to a relationship between equals.
Molly O’Sullivan gives as good as she gets in her interactions with the Doctor, but she’s largely wasted on a story arc that doesn’t know what to do with her beyond using her as a sort of sharp-tongued plot football. Tamsin Drew gets the same treatment, unfortunately. Mary Shelley was a great idea but I feel like those stories never quite worked as well as they ought to have done.
Liv Chenka, on the other hand, has seen some things. She’s a normal human, with a normal human lifespan, but by the time she meets the Doctor for the first time she’s also a seasoned MedTech. By the time she finally joins Team TARDIS on a full-time basis, she’s already had several opportunities to get the Doctor’s measure. He can’t really fool her about who he is the way he can with most companions. Helen Sinclair is more naive in the beginning, and very much in awe of both Liv and the Doctor, but she’s also had to hold her own in a very male-dominated field of academia in the 1960s, which puts her closer to an equal footing than most of her predecessors. Best of all from my POV, neither she nor Liv have any romantic interest in the Doctor at all (I tend to read the Doctor as being more toward the ace-side of the grey-asexual spectrum). These three people love each other and have learned to rely on each other completely, but as friends and as equals–or as equal as any non-Time Lord (or Time Lord equivalent) can be with the Doctor. Their skill sets and personalities complement each other, despite each character’s deep flaws and vulnerabilities. I honestly don’t think there’s ever been a TARDIS team this well-balanced before. Add River Song to the mix and you’ve got my favourite “four doctors” ever.
Within Doom Coalition, my favorite episodes are:
The Eleven, because it introduces a really interesting villain and kicks off the whole extravaganza of awesomeness
The Red Lady, because it introduces Helen and is super creepy and weird
Absent Friends, because it’s beautiful and sad
Ship in a Bottle, because it is a perfect example of its genre
Other favorite Eighth Doctor Audios:
Invaders from Mars (Eight/Charley), because it’s delightfully silly
The Chimes of Midnight (Eight/Charley), because a) it is beautifully atmospheric and creepy and b) it was the first time I really got a sense of what the brilliant folks at Big Finish could do with audio
Neverland/Zagreus/Scherzo (Eight/Charley), because this arc is peak Eight/Charley awesomeness. Also see above re: what Big Finish can do with audio–the scale of these stories would be utterly impossible for Doctor Who to do on television, even if it had a premium cable budget
The Natural History of Fear (Eight/Charley/C’rizz), because I feel like the writers were all sitting around one night and one of them turned to Alan Barnes and Gary Russel and said, “Zagreus was the most mind-bendingly bizarre story ever written for Big Finish,” and then Jim Mortimore was like “hold my beer!”
Caerdroia (Eight/Charley/C’rizz), because one Eighth Doctor is definitely not enough
Other Lives (Eight/Charley/C’rizz), because it’s a straight-up historical and a beautiful character piece, and those are both rare
Memory Lane (Eight/Charley/C’rizz), because LEGO, ice cream lollies, and the Eighth Doctor’s laughter
The Cannibalists (Eight/Lucie), because it’s hilarious and sweet
An Earthly Child (Eight, Susan, and Alex), because I am a sucker for the Doctor’s family
Relative Dimensions (Eight/Lucie, Susan, and Alex), see above
Lucie Miller/To the Death (Eight/Lucie, Susan, and Alex), see above I HATE YOU NICK BRIGGS YOU MONSTER
You’ll notice none of my faves come from Dark Eyes. That’s because, although it had a few moments of brilliance, the arc was kind of a mess, and also chock-full of misery and Daleks, which are not my favorite things. On the other hand, Dark Eyes was how I first encountered the Macqueen!Master, who is almost the only really fun thing in this batch of stories (and is also, unfortunately, and true to character, also the source of much of the other characters’ misery). But if you want to experience the Macqueen!Master and don’t particularly mind skipping over sixteen episodes of Eighth Doctor stories, I’d tell you to listen to And You Will Obey Me/Vampire of the Mind/The Two Masters instead, because they are better stories and you get to enjoy the Beevers!Master, too!

LION
Movie Summary
Tumblr media
In the land of Khandwa, India, there was a five-year old boy standing on top of a hill playing with butterflies and his name was Saroo. Saroo and Guddu, his elder brother, went out to steal coal from trains and sell it in to the village. They used the money to buy milk for their family.
Tumblr media
At the moment, their mom asks where they get it but they didn’t answer. The next day, Kamla, the mother of Saroo, have to leave their to collect rock which her job.
Tumblr media
On the other hand, Guddu was about to leave too, but Saroo want to go along with his brothers. Guddu says that Saroo have to stay with Shekila, their youngest sister. At first Guddu didn’t agree that Saroo can go along with him, but in the end he agreed. They arrived at a nearby train station and Saroo takes a nap. When they’ve reached the other train station, Guddu tries to wake him up but his too tired. That’s why Guddu leave Saroo at the train station. Saroo waited Guddu for hours and he never return. Saroo searches for his brother in to the train and fell asleep in to one of the compartments. As he woke up, he found out that the train is moving.
Tumblr media
After several days, the train finally arrived Calcutta. Saroo was definitely missing. He didn’t even understand Bengali, Calcutta’s language. He tried to reach out for a ticket but no one understands him also because no one knows where ‘Ginestalay’ is and he was a child. In several days, he spends the nights roaming around the city until he met Noor, a friendly woman. Noor take him a bath and feed him. She tells Saroo that there’s a man named Rama will help him to get back home. Saroo felt like there’s something wrong with the two people so he runaway. He spent his two months, living under Howrah Bridge.
Tumblr media
One day, a young man saw him and taken to the police. The police cannot trace his family that’s why they put him into orphanage.
Tumblr media
Until, there was an Australian couple wants to adopt him. The couple is so kind and taught Saroo many things. Saroo are comfortable with the couple. A year later, the couple adopted a child again named Mamosh. Saroo grown up, he starts moving to Melbourne for his study and met Lucy, an American student. Saroo confess to his friends that he was adopted and he didn’t know where he’ll find his family. His friends suggested that he can use Google Search. Lucy and Saroo became a couple. Saroo begins his search because he thinks about what must his family gone through when he was missing. Saroo visits Sue, his foster parent who has an illness. Sue was infertile, so her and his husband, John to help others especially kids through adoption. Saroo has been spending a long time for his search until one day, he notice the rock formations, where his mother collect rocks, and found out that its “Ganesh Talai” not “Ginestalay”. He’s so happy and tells it to his foster mother. Sue Brierly fully supports Saroo for this.
Tumblr media
With the help of a local English Speaker in his hometown, he was able to saw and have an emotional and overwhelming reunion with his family. It saddened him when he finds out that Guddu died. Kalma tells Saroo that he never lose hope in finding him and never move away from there. Saroo and his family reunited. Smiles and tears of joy are the only you’ll see in the ending.
Tumblr media
Lost and Found
The movie was heartbreaking at first because at a very young age Saroo was separated to his family. The plot was stunning and it will make you think of how things happened. The characters played their role majestically. The movie shows that everyone can be a family. The movie is inspirational and worth the brain cells used.
A. The movie taught us that no races, no culture and no nationality can define what family is. Family starts with love and care. The movie shows where ever you are you can find a family. At a very young age, Saroo gone through a lot of experiences in life and encountered different types of people. Finally, an Australian family adopted him and he felt like home. Just like in a normal life, family is the one who helps you through thick and thin. They are the one who raised and clothed you on being what you are right now. But, never forget where you came from even though you are too high now.
b. “Do you have any idea what its like? How everyday my mother screams my name?” –Saroo. As I’ve heard this line, I was literally crying in front of my laptop. It touches my heart. This is the time when Saroo was searching for the place where his family can be found. The line was too emotional and too deep. No mother will ever give up not until she found her children. For a mother like Kamla, it was too heartbreaking for her to lose a child of her own, knowing the fact that she was illiterate. It took how many years until she met her beloved Saroo. On the other hand, Saroo realized that his mother might be suffering in finding him. It was very emotional for me because I know what it feels like being separated to his parents.
c. From the movie, Sue Brierly is my favorite character. It is because she was kind enough to adapt and help orphans like Saroo just to give them a nice and happy family. Even though she was infertile, she chose to help and adapt kids. Sue and her husband raised and clothed Saroo and the other child giving them their needs, love and care. She was genuinely loves to help children. In the time that Saroo was searching for her biological mother, Sue truly supports Saroo because it is the right thing. She was so selfless. Mother’s love was the selfless love that we can experience.
d. Being separated from parents is never easy. At a very young age, I was separated from my mother and father. The only difference between me and Saroo was I stayed at my Aunt’s house and Saroo became a street child. Mom have to leave the country for us to be able to continue my study and have a better future so with papa. It felt like you are in a nest that has baby birds in it and you’re the only beetle on it. It hurts so bad to be separated from them. You missed them, the love, care and comfort. the feeling of taking care by your own parents can never explain by a 20 pages book. The feeling is different from the others.
e. I would like to ask Saroo “How many days or months did he spent to find his own family?"

tom holland fc -- jackson wells, 21. “the smartie pants.” jackson graduated high school at fourteen and went on to college at 15, graduating when he was 19. for the past year and a half he’s been working in a lab with his university, but he’s decided he wants to have some fun. which is why he auditioned for the show on a whim.
justin bieber fc -- maxwell “max” evans, 22. “the wannabe cassanova.” max always thought he would make it big in his teens. he was a heartbreaker in school, never having a steady girlfriend. he used to drive for hours to get to LA to go on auditions for shows and movies, but he never once made it. he’s hoping by being on the show he’ll get some recognition and launch his career.
tyler blackburn fc -- oliver quinn, 25. “the musician.” oliver is a selfless musician. he focuses on everyone elses needs but his own, and often finds himself giving his last dollar to buy coffee for the homeless person on the corner. he’d rather help someone else than help himself. it doesn’t help that he’s a musician in the big city, keeping up his job at a local bar by playing four different instruments--piano, guitar, drums, and trumpet.
john boyega fc -- stephen peters, 24. “the nervous nelly.” stephen has always been afraid of stepping out of his comfort zone. he was made fun of for being a nerd when he was younger, and kept to himself to avoid the popular kids. he’s always loved the show, but never thought of himself on the show--in fact, his audition tape was pieced together by his mother and younger brother who thought it would be a good idea for him. he’s awfully nervous and often stutters when he speaks.
nico torotrella fc -- tyson “ty” vaughn, 27. “the identical twin.”  ty is the oldest of two children, identical twins. he’s always been known to be the more outgoing twin, until his brother tyler “ty” was on bb last season, nearly winning. this year tyson has come on the show with one catch--everyone thinks he’s his twin brother tyler.

Tumblr media
His feature film debut came in 1928′s Naughty Baby.

His first time acting with Lucille Ball came in 1955′s “The Tour” (ILL S4;E30) filmed on April 15, 1955 and first aired on May 30, 1955. Rubin played the driver of the tour bus that takes Lucy and Ethel to the home of Richard Widmark - then leaves them there!
Tumblr media
Rubin was featured on two episodes of Desilu’s “December Bride” with celebrity guest-stars: “The Rudy Vallee Show” (1956) and “The Mickey Rooney Show” (1958). Both Vallee and Rooney were seen as themselves on future Lucycoms.
Tumblr media
In 1963, he teamed with another “I Love Lucy” veteran, Ellen Corby, as a couple on a park bench in “Lucy and the Runaway Butterfly” (TLS S1;E29) filmed March 21, 1963.
Tumblr media
The episode first aired on CBS on April 22, 1963.
Tumblr media
In February 1964, he made one more “Lucy Show” appearance when “Lucy and Viv Open a Restaurant” (TLS S2;E20). Rubin (center) played Mr. Jones, the linen supplier for the restaurant, although he is only identified by name in the closing credits.

MARY WICKES
June 13, 1910 - October 22, 1995
Tumblr media
Mary Wickes (nee Mary Isabella Wickenhauser) was born in St. Louis, Missouri, to parents who were theatre buffs. A smart student, Mary skipped two grades and graduated from High School at age 16. In college, she majored in English and Political Science, though shifted her career goals to acting at the suggestion of a professor.
Tumblr media
Wickes’ first Broadway play was Spring Dance in 1934, acting alongside Phil Ober, who married Vivian Vance in 1941. Her second Broadway role was in Stage Door (1936) although she was not asked to repeat her role in the 1937 film. One of the RKO contract players cast in the film version was Lucille Ball.
Tumblr media
In The Man Who Came to Dinner, her seventh Broadway show in 1939, she played Nurse Preen, a role she repeated in the 1942 film, her Hollywood debut. She did the role twice more on television in 1949 and 1972. During her busy film and television career, she often played prim, professional women, secretaries, nurses, nuns, and housekeepers, who made sarcastic quips. She left Broadway in 1948, and did not return for another 30 years.
Tumblr media
Wickes did not do nearly as much radio work as many actors in Hollywood did, probably because she was busy on Broadway, but she did act opposite Lucy and Desi’s friend and house guest Orson Welles doing radio plays for  the “Mercury Theatre” program. She was also sometimes heard in the 1950 series “Crime Does Not Pay.”
Tumblr media
On December 19, 1949, in a one-hour live “Studio One in Hollywood” presentation on CBS (a weekly anthology series), Mary Wickes became the first actor to play Mary Poppins, almost 15 years before Julie Andrews immortalized the magical nanny on screen.
Tumblr media
Lucille Ball and Mary Wickes were more than just co-stars. Wickes was a close personal friend to Lucille Ball, who often went on vacation with the family.  According to Ball’s daughter, Lucie Arnaz, Wickes was her mother’s most constant friend throughout her life.
Tumblr media
Wickes was actually a regular on television a couple of years before Lucille Ball, as part of the cast of “Inside U.S.A.” (1949-1950).  Lucille Ball guest-starred on the series in November 1949. The show was done in New York and Lucy was delayed in getting to the studio for rehearsals, so Mary Wickes was asked to stand in for her. When she finally arrived, Lucy observed Wickes and was impressed with her work. They were friends from then on.
Tumblr media
A year later, Ball joined her film co-star Bob Hope on his television show, “The Star Spangled Revue”, which also featured Mary Wickes.
Tumblr media
In February 1952, Ball hired Wickes to play one of her most memorable characters, Lucy Ricardo’s ballet mistress, Madam LaMond, on “I Love Lucy.” This would be Wickes’ only performance on the series.
Tumblr media
Although she did not return to “I Love Lucy”, Wickes still maintained a relationship with Desilu, appearing on 21 episodes of “The Danny Thomas Show” from 1956 to 1958. She played Danny’s no-nonsense Press Agent, Liz O’Neill.
Tumblr media
At the end of the first season of “The Lucy Show,” however, Wickes returned to Lucy’s TV family. In her first appearance, her character actually used her birth name, Mrs. Wickenhauser in “Lucy and the Runaway Butterfly” (TLS S1;E29) in 1963.
Tumblr media
A few months later, Wickes is back. This time as Frances, one of Lucy’s friends, at the start of season two, which was shot (but not aired) in color. Fran takes the role of Charmian, opposite Lucy’s Cleopatra, at the Danfield Community Theatre.
Tumblr media
Fran was also a member of the Danfield Women’s Auxiliary Fire Department, alongside Lucy and Viv. So when they form a softball team, Fran and Audrey (Mary Jane Croft) also get involved.
Tumblr media
Fran’s final appearance finds her and the other volunteer fire fighters taking life-saving courses in order to impress Mr. Mooney and the bank trustees to save their brigade.  When that fails, Lucy sets a small fire in the bank, intending to be the hero and put it out - but naturally the plan fails.
Tumblr media
When the series re-set the action in Los Angeles, Fran was left behind, and Wickes instead appeared as a series of different characters, starting with Lucy’s Aunt Gussie, in “Lucy and the Sleeping Beauty” (TLS S4;E9) in 1965. The dozing beauty of the title is not Wickes, but guest star Clint Walker.
Tumblr media
In 1966, Lucille Ball’s favorite game show, “Password”, hosted not one, but two ‘Lucille Ball & Friends’ weeks!  Mary Wickes played during the November week. When Mary Wickes learns they are playing for money, she says “We have to give it to Lucy and Gary.”  Lucy says “That’s not true!”  Lucy and Mary win the second game in 28 seconds.
Tumblr media
In 1967, Wickes returns to “The Lucy Show” to play Mrs. Winslow, a mother in urgent need of a babysitter.  Lucy answers the call, not knowing her little ones are actually chimpanzees!  Oh, and there’s a baby elephant, too!
Tumblr media
A few months later, when Robert Goulet guest stars, Wickes plays his frazzled assistant, Miss Hurlow. With Goulet having three personalities, it’s no wonder she’s frazzled.
Tumblr media
On her final “Lucy Show” appearance (her 8th), Wickes plays another eccentric aunt of Lucy Carmichael’s, Aunt Agatha, a mystery guest who comes to visit  and makes turns Lucy’s life upside down by making her take part in her strenuous health and fitness routine.
Once Lucille Ball re-boots “The Lucy Show” as “Here’s Lucy” there is an attempt to make Wickes into a recurring character. She plays Isabel, a secretary in the same building as The Unique Employment Agency.
Tumblr media
The attempt only lasts two episodes, however: “Lucy Goes on Strike” (HL S1;E16)...
Tumblr media
...and “Lucy Gets Her Man” (HL S1;E21). Wickes only has 40 seconds of screen time at the very start of the episode. Mary Jane Croft joined the show shortly afterwards as Mary Jane Lewis, serving much the same function.
Tumblr media
A few months later, however, she was back. This time returning to her nurse’s uniform she filled out so expertly in The Man Who Came To Dinner (inset photo), to play Nurse Hurlow in “Lucy and Harry’s Tonsils” (HL S2;E5). Perhaps coincidentally, Wickes uses the same surname she used as Robert Goulet’s secretary on “The Lucy Show.”  Perhaps it was the same woman who got fed up with the craziness of show business and went into nursing?  Or, more likely,  the writers just ran out of names!
Tumblr media
For the first time, Wickes’ character doesn’t have a name, but she gets most of the laughs, as the personal care attendant of a germ-phobic little old lady with a gigantic diamond that needs cutting. Wickes spends most of her screen time spraying everyone she meets with an aerosol disinfectant!  Wally Cox plays the nervous jeweler.
Tumblr media
Wickes then gets into a habit she finds hard to break, when she plays Lucy’s sister-in-law, Sister Paula, in “Lucy’s All-Nun Band” (HL S4;E8) in 1971. Although Wickes only played two nuns on the big screen, in The Trouble with Angels (1966) and Sister Act (1992), both films had sequels where she reprised her roles.
“Women like me. They think I'm wholesome or something.” ~ Mary Wickes
Tumblr media
At the start of season 5, with Lucille Ball / Lucy Carter’s leg in a cast, she naturally returned to her whites to play Nurse Sylvia Ogilvy in both “Lucy's Big Break” (HL S5;E1) and the next episode, “Lucy and Eva Gabor are Hospital Roomies” (HL S5;E2).  The two episodes are both linked by Lucy’s recovery in the hospital.
Tumblr media
In “Lucy Plays Cops and Robbers” (HL S6;E14), Wickes plays Violet Barker, Lucy’s neighbor. Her husband is played by sitcom veteran Al Lewis of “Car 54″ and “The Munsters”. They are part of Lucy’s neighborhood watch group. The surname Barker will also be used for Lucy’s character on her final sitcom, “Life With Lucy.”
Tumblr media
In her final appearance on the series, Wickes goes to the old west when Lucy is elected honorary sheriff of a one-horse town called Cartridge Belt. Wickes plays Clara Simpson, the town philanthropist.
Tumblr media
In the last episode aired of “Here’s Lucy” there is a character named Mary Winters, a character written to be played by Mary Wickes, or at the very least, with Mary Wickes in mind. The role was filled by a very Mary Wickes-like actress, also named Mary, Mary Treen.
Tumblr media
Lucille Ball and Mary Wickes collaborated one last time on television in “Lucy Calls The President” a 1977 TV special that reunited Lucy with many of her favorite supporting cast members. Wickes once again plays Lucy’s aunt, Miss Millie Baker.  The special has the Whittaker family rolling out the red carpet because they believe that President Jimmy Carter and family are going to visit!
Tumblr media
Life after Lucy included appearing as a recurring character on “The Father Dowling Mysteries” from 1989 to 1991, as well as her film roles in Sister Act and Little Women.
Tumblr media
In 2013, Steve Taravella wrote a biography of Wickes titled Mary Wickes: I Know I’ve Seen That Face Before.
Mary Wickes died of complications following hip surgery on October 22, 1995, aged 85. She made a $2 million bequest in memory of her parents, establishing the Isabella and Frank Wickenhauser Memorial Library Fund for Television, Film and Theater Arts at the Washington University in St. Louis.
“I love playing good comedy with a heart, comedy which touches the audience.” ~ Mary Wickes
