im really interested in white-black casting in les mis. when i found out theyd cast a black man, kyle scatliffe, for enjolras in the 2014 revival, i lost my minddd. i hadnt thought about it! i always liked thinking about the implications for valjean, fantine + cosette, eponine… eponine especially her black casting has had the most influence on the text (afaik), and i can not accept a white eponine. i also need to look into all-black productions, which is really fun to think about story-wise. i think it’s kinda ridiculous that they cast norm lewis as JAVERT in the 25th concert asfshjwna he played the character really well but i cant do “colorblind” casting. Color Blind Casting is meant to mean the actor is supposed to play white. if being poor, being a woman, being a convict has an impact on the story and situation, why wouldnt race ..? maybe lewis embedded meaning i didnt detect. maybe it doesnt matter. it matters to me lol. anyway back to the beginning, i really like thinking about a black enjolras. a kid from a french colony in africa, or even from america which ive just learned had a massive black migration event us to fr in 1803… the added pressure on themes of colonization and national authority and imperialism, and bodily autonomy and migration and youth, and the punishment of black revolutionaries in particular… really like thinking about it

Very nice capture of Marc as Burr and Jimmie as Washington. Some head obstruction at the very bottom of the screen in wideshots, but it never takes away. This cast is absolutely Incredible together, Miguel continues to shine as the best hamilton we've ever had, While Marc plays off him and the rest of the cast insanely well. The chemistry is off the charts in this video.

for the musical asks, 11 and 12 (fave/least fave actor portayal) for Enjolras (les mis obviously)
Ok. That hurts
Favorite: THERES TOO MANY. I CANT EVEN NAME A TOP THREE. Fra, Ramin, Aaron, Bradley, Kyle Scatliffe, Killian, there’s just too many!
If I haaad to pick it would be Bradley Jaden probably
Least favorite: probably any of the earlier ones. Of ones that I actually know the name of, Michael Maguire

“Javert at the Barricade” and “Little People,” (plus “You at the barricade, listen to this...”), Broadway, 2014. Kyle Scatliffe as Enjolras, Will Swenson as Javert, Gaten Matarazzo as Gavroche.
Not the highest quality video, but solid, and the performance is a strong one. The pre-Stranger Things Gaten Matarazzo is a feisty, exuberant Gavroche (I only wish he had gotten to sing the uncut version of “Little People”), Kyle’s Enjolras is majestic and commanding, and as for Will’s Javert... well, he’s certainly a firebrand. I’m not sure if I like having him be so wildly ferocious on “Shoot me now or shoot me later...”, nearly attacking Enjolras and needing to be forced to his knees by the other students. It’s not exactly a dignified response to capture. But I assume it was direction; ever since 2009, Laurence Connor and James Powell’s interpretation of Javert has been more aggressive and neurotic than he is in other productions.
I like the feisty girl with the hitched-up skirt in the foreground who instantly turns a gun on Javert when he’s revealed as a spy. That student who talks her down should mind his own business and let her do what the men are doing!
