Valentines (Kenjaku x Mahito)
Fluff. Literally just fluff.
I have never crossposted my fanfiction onto tumblr, but I figure in spirit of Valentine’s Day I may as well share it here too. Posted under the same title on AO3. Anyway, just some Valentine's Day fluff for the other 5 other Kenjaku/Mahito enjoyers out there. 💌
Dagon rolled with the ebb and flow of the current. He would submerge into the water now and again—as he always did. Any sound he may have made was drowned out by the lapping of the waves against the shore.
Kenjaku, too, was left to his devices and lounged in one of the lawnchairs, reading a magazine without a care.
There was nothing in particular going on that day. Most of them had been out for the majority of the day, with the exception of Kenkaju and Dagon. Mahito had returned not long ago. Surprisingly, he hadn’t said hello, and instead quietly went and sat down on the sand not far from Kenjaku, facing toward the sea.
While always pleasant, the beach inside Horizon of The Captivating Skandha proved to be all the more rewarding during the winter. It was mid February, after all. Not that the colder weather made any difference to Mahito, weather elements hardly mattered to him–or to any of the other curses, really. But the sun always felt good.
Mahito lifted fistfuls of warm sand and watched it slip through his fingers.
“Geto, what’s Valentine’s Day?” He asked suddenly. “Hearing about that around?” He didn’t look up from his magazine. Mahito nodded but Kenjaku hadn’t seen it. “There’s a lot of people giving gifts. Treats. People seem happy,” Mahito said. “It vexes you, I’m sure.” “It does.”
Kenjaku lifted his head. “It’s when women give chocolates to the man they love.” “Oooh.” “And men reciprocate this on White Day.” “When’s that?” “A month later.”
Mahito mumbled meekly in thought. There was a moment’s peace before he shot up and twirled around.
“How ‘bout we do that?” He gleamed, lacing his hands together and teetering forward. “I’ll give you those chocolates.” “I didn’t think you’d want in on the fun.” Kenjaku replied casually. “Let’s do it.” Mahito urged. Kenjaku hummed sweetly, as if to consider it for a moment. “No.” Mahito’s hands fell and his posture drooped. “Why not?” He simply didn’t want to, but he didn’t say that. “Why would you like to celebrate a human holiday?” He proposed instead. “You’re not my keeper.” Mahito immediately deflected sullenly. Kenjaku snickered quietly enough that he couldn’t have heard.
Silence once again settled before it was again disrupted by Mahito. “Do you like chocolate?” “I do.” “Then I’ll get them for you.” “You needn’t.” Kenjaku didn’t need to see him to know he would have looked frustrated. Regardless, he stopped and peered at the curse, amused and satisfied. He looked back down and continued reading without so much as a word. Mahito watched him disappointedly before he spun back away from him and sank to the ground. He seemed to pout for a minute, hunched over. Then Kenjaku heard him hurl—sounding wet and vile like it usually did. Then he was fiddling something in his hands. Kenjaku could only wait in dreadful anticipation as to what kind of thing he was sculpting. He was working at it for a good while, which had at least allowed him to finish most of the magazine, skimming through all of the uninteresting bits. The distant fleshy and crackling sounds of Mahito’s construction finally came to a halt and Kenjaku listened to the kicking of sand as he approached and finally looked up as a shadow casted over him.
He extended a grotesque display of flowers in his hand.
“As a token of our—” he paused and his eyes wandered to the side in thought. “Companionship.” He fixed his eyes back at Kenjaku and lightly shook the bouquet, beckoning him to take it. He accepted it and admired it with a gentle expression, but Mahito couldn’t tell if he was pleased or unimpressed. Though they were fleshy and slightly deformed, he could recognize the flower he tried to imitate. “Tsubaki?” He asked. Mahito nodded. “Do you like them?” he chimed. Kenjaku smiled smugly. “I suppose they are in season.” Mahito scrunched his nose in a slight glower.
Some of them bore a mouth on one of its pedals—they gasped and wheezed quietly. Kenjaku assumed he’d given them mouths to keep them alive. One of them had an eyeball right in the center where the pedals came together. It had no eyelids and was bloodshot. It darted around before pinning its gaze onto him. Even with it lacking a face entirely, he could see its anguish.
They were well crafted, he could admit. Though a little misshapen. He rotated the flowers in his hand for another moment in careful consideration. “I like them.” He finally answered. Mahito gave a small and hushed giggle. Kenjaku turned and gently placed the bouquet of flesh and bone onto the sand just beside the chair. “Aw,” Mahito whined. “You’re not gonna hold it?” Kenjaku sighed pleasantly in response and settled back.
Mahito briefly hesitated before he leapt onto the lawn chair, plopping right down on Kenjaku's thighs. The whole chair was jostled by it and Kenjaku tried his best to mask his irritation, but his shoulders sank with a heavy sigh nonetheless. Mahito timidly wriggled further up his lap and leaned forward.
“Kiss me.” “No.” “So cold! Even after that lovely gift I made you?”
There was a pause.
“You think I owe you a kiss for it?” “Is that not how it works?” He gawked at him, his eyes innocently darted about, taking in every part of Kenjaku’s face before meeting with his eyes again. Kenjaku only smiled back with that oddly serene and somehow demeaning grin of his. With no further reaction, Mahito lifted his hand and tapped his lips with his finger. “On the mouth,” he instructed. “Choosy.” They sat quietly before Mahito leaned in closer–uncomfortably close. Their noses almost touched. Almost. It stayed this way for a bit. Mahito eyed him expectantly and eagerly. Kenjaku stared unflinchingly at the curse directly in front of him which breathed against his skin.
Mahito tilted his head and slided forward ever-so-slightly. Kenjaku remained rigid before Mahito finally closed the sliver of distance between them.
Naturally, he wasn’t a good kisser, but Kenjaku nevertheless reciprocated. It was short, but alarmingly gentle and tender. Kenjaku softly broke away and Mahito moved in to try once more but he only calmly retreated further from him. Mahito eyed him, disappointed and flippant. He leaned back and seated himself back on Kenjaku’s legs, unsatiated. “All I’m gonna get?” “Yup.”
Huffy, he hopped off from his lap. Now free, Kenjaku rested his hands across his stomach and crossed his legs. Mahito took the lounge chair just next to him and laid across it, turning his back to him. He peered over his shoulder. “I’m looking forward to White Day,” he said. “You better get something nice for me.” “Of course,” he lied. Naturally, he wasn’t going to. But Mahito isn’t one to forget about these things, either.

theanimepsychologist I think you might be right that JJK is actually Megumi kaisen all along. Gege's going all out with his awakening ritual on a grand scale and is about to use the rest of the cast, Kanjaku's thousand year plan and Sukuna to get him there. I see it. I see the vision.
What kind of creature will he emerge as?
As someone who currently carries the will of not one, not two but at least 4 (Kenjaku, Sukuna, Tengen cause I still think granny is in the game, and Gojo) big shots, which one will he inherit? I think Gege has put Megumi in a position wherein he's basically a clean slate . The loss of Tsumiki will force him to reevaluate and develop his sense of Self independent of her influence. So I wonder how carrying the burden forced upon his shoulders would affect his newly found ideals eventually.
Dang, now that I think about it he's a young sorcerer that is at the receiving end of the jujutsu society's worst practices. Being a subject to the whims of the ancient foundation of jujutsu? Could this be another way that Gege is exploring that generational trauma?
ahaha, I must admit that I have a tendency to use memes and certain words out of the context that the collective assigns to them. So it's kinda validating hearing that it was Megumi Kaisen all along. Like, am I using this meme right?
Ok, and like... I know @justafrenchlondoner and @markholiclee-blog brought up how that one panel made them think of Megumi immediately, but it also seems like Sukuna not being able to tell the boundary between his soul and Megumi's sounds like Gege has #plans to me.
Also. Love what you wrote. YES 💃🏻. Thanks for sharing.

Choso gives off kitten vibes and it makes me go insane
He’s just such a comfort character, I love him :(
I didn’t expect to fall so hard for him but everything about him is just screaming “green flag” and my heart needs to heal after Nanami.
I mean the MOMENT he realised that Yuji was his brother he switched sides cause he never cared for Kanjakus end goal, he was just in it for his brothers. That’s so wholesome and pure:(
Choso is definitely the type of guy to (POSITIVELY) not understand why you dont like yourself.
(100% self insert) but when you have a bad day and just nothing fits and you cry because you cant look in the mirror he’d be wrapping his arms around you and tell you that you look amazing to him and that he doesn’t understand how anyone or anything could ever make you feel differently. I mean you saw hos brothers, that boy 100% doesn’t give a shit about physical appearance, and still he thinks you’re straight up a masterpiece in every way.
I made myself cry :((
~ Nanami Flowershop Anon
it’s crazy how he’s probably the most bf material of everyone in jjk THERE ARE OTHERS UP THERE DONT FET ME WRONG but i think so!!!
again look at his brothers! that boy (150 cursed womb) runs solely on love!!!!!

Jjk and gojo
Long thread about my scattered thoughts about jjk
I always thought gojo dying a sorcerers death was fitting for his character an off screen death none of the grandure he has was given to him and that's the point no? in his final moments he died during his happiest spring with people he loved (in his head anyways)
Gojo satoru died a human death he preserved loved lived and he changed because of it
We constantly see Characters in jjk preserving fighting and trying as hard as they can to live and survive and they die, take nanami as an explample mei told him to move south if he wants stay the same, he dreamt of settling down in Thailand who is by the way south of Japan
Tumblr media
And mei mei (you guessed it) was in Thailand right after, she managed to live bcs of that and the fact that he did change was the reason he died
Yuki was LITERALLY cut in half and she was still fighting kanjaku trying to prove to him that her philosophy is right and he's wrong about humans, same thing with choso and his fight he was thinking about his brother his LOVE for them that's what changed him
Yuji our LITERAL main character preserved trough his loved ones death and so hard for so long and he didn't even get to kill the person he hated the most, living in constant guilt and suicidal thoughts as TEENAGER to the point where just accepted his part as a clog in a bigger machine just trying his best to save people and honor his grandpa's death
Jujutsu kaisen is a horror story first and foremost it's a story about war and the cynical cycle of abuse not everybody is gonna break away from it, is it pessimistic? Sure, is it an invalid way telling a story? Absolutely not and anybody trying to say that gege doesn't know what their doing with the story is simply wrong and if you like so many people on twitter only read jjk for gojo you did not in fact read jjk
Gojo is FAR from one of my favorite characters I did not care for him for most of the story he's fun don't get me wrong but i thought getos decent to madness or sukunas very interesting and out there way of thinking (esp anything related to japeness culture )is far more fascinating but I loved his death and I genuinely thought it was beautiful, I think weekly leaks have rotted people brain perspection of jjk
Also english isn't my first language and I have never done an analysis befor so please don't be to mean to me🫶

⚠ JJK CHAPTER 243 SPOILERS ⚠
man dude bro its too easy for kenjaku to die like that. i saw some great theories about how the brain thing of kanjaku's would maybe take over yuta or takaba's body. and someone said that yuta killed geto twice technically, since the second time was in geto's body but with kenjaku. also, yuta killed him again on the same day as in jjk0, the 24th of december. anyways, im kinda glad he's dead, possible for now, because that arc was getting kinda boring. i know the culling game arc isnt over as soon as kenjaku dies, i jsut meant the random chapters, showing takaba's technique, they were getting kinda confusing and boring. anways, i guess im excited for enxt week's chapter. also, REST IN PEACE, NANAMIN 😭

DID U SEE GILF!HAJIME IN THE JJK LEAKS???? 😭😭😭 On a more serious note, i was so shocked cuz I thought the Hajime in the culling game was the age he died in. Do u think the incarnated sorcerers took up the appearance of their vessels or did they retain the original appearance but become younger???
GILF HAJIME I—😭
And yes, I saw the leaks, I’M SO HYPED! We get continuation of the Hakari vs. Hajime fight, some lore and cameo from Ryu from 400 years ago, how Hajime and Kanjaku met, and a different form from Kenjaku ahhhhh, I can’t wait to read it all!
As for your question, I doubt the appearances of the ancient sorcerers are from their vessels. If you remember, Uro, she had black sclera instead of normal white ones. People don’t have dark scleras so the Uro we see now, is probably how she looked back in her time. Plus, in the leaks of gilf!Hajime, he had the same wild looking hair hair as the young!Hajime. So I think how the ancient sorcerers look now is how they originally looked before.
BUT! I don’t think they were made younger either.
Dhruv Lakdawalla (the old man who got defeated by Yuta immediately after his introduction) wasn’t young, he was a really old looking guy. Going off on this, I think Kenjaku not only turned them into cursed objects and gave them vessels to take over, but he also most likely let them return to whatever their ‘prime age’ was (as in, the age where they were their most powerful).

There’s a theory that the song “SPECIALZ” (JJK Shibuya arc theme) is a song from Kenjaku (or the curses in general) mocking Yuji as “special”. (Look up Will Stenson’s cover for English lyrics)
However in the Eriverse it swaps concepts as the transfigured humans mockingly thanking Mahito for making them “special” (hence “U R MY SPECIAL”)
Just listened to the English version, watched the Japanese version, and reread the English version without sound.
And honestly, I kinda see the opening being more geared towards Satoru more than it is being sung to Yuji.
Like yea, I agree that the song feels like it is either coming from Kenjaku or the curses (I more see it being Kenjaku honestly), but to me it feels like they are singing it to Satoru more than Yuji because Satoru is the special one out of the two (at least compared to how the curses and Kanjaku see the two).
I can kinda see the theme also being from Mahito directly to Yuji, in a similar way it's from Kenjaku to Satoru. Both are absolutely trying to mock and get a reaction out of Satoru and Yuji with their actions/looks in order to get the upper hand.
It's just the line(s) "No! No! No! Don’t be still as stone, all calm and alone" feel more geared towards Satoru for the most part as he was very much as calm and collected someone could be in the Shibuya incident (well... he went a little silly against the curses but it's whatever lol). Yuji only went calm after accepting him and Mahito are the same (and by that point Mahito was not in a mocking mood towards Yuji.
There's probably more I could analyze directly but I am a little short on time and don't really have the ability to explain why I think it's more of a song towards Satoru than it is Yuji (maybe because at this point in the story Satoru felt more like the main character than Yuji did, which I see is a common complaint in the fandom lol, but that's just how the story is written).
As for the Eriverse, I would say that it doesn't fit all that well unless you do a turn-around theming to it.
Meaning that the first/most of the song is actually from Mahito to everyone else. He's mocking them and having fun, ending up somehow setting up a rendezvous with everyone thinking he would be fine only for them to turn the tables and they end up taking the song for themselves against Mahito.
I would say the turn happens around the second “get 1○st iπ 31” line. The no regrets part of it which leads into the final “i luv u 6a6y.”
From then on I can see it being the transfigured humans directing their hate towards Mahito.
It's not FULLY from the transfigured humans, because I can see Mahito saying/representing the "No! No! No! Don’t be still as stone, all calm and alone" line in a more desperation tone as he is now all alone and doesn't like how he can't manipulate and hurt these people anymore who now have power over him.
But yea, I can see the song being slightly from the transfigured humans but also from Mahito as well.
(also, side note, but I love how many ugly cryers are in JJK lol. Just rewatched Mahito's crying scene for funs and I really can't wait for more of Choso's crying scenes! He's the best ugly cryer hehe).

Thinking about Kanjaku calling Gojo his first name while looking the way he looks just adds a whole other level of angst. Especially considering that Satosugu never stopped calling eachother by their first names even after everything that happened.
