Will enby Helsknight/trans Tanguish/top surgery scars/stubborn avoidant Welsknight in a gender crisis make it into the main story of RnS? Like, a full acknowledgment of it? Because yes, us on tumblr are aware (and happily bully RnS Wels for it) but I’m curious to how it may be brought up in the main storyline instead of rambles and drabbles. (Don’t get me wrong, those rambles and drabbles are what get me through the day. But my best friend, who isn’t in the MCYT fandom whatsoever, just caught up with RnS and doesn’t use tumblr, and besides spamming her with tumblr posts I wanna know how much I can revel in the glory of the skrunkles with her!)
That is a great question, actually. And the answer is I don't really know.
So this is one of the downsides to writing things chapter by chapter. If I had gone into this going "oh heck yeah they're trans", this would've come up in the plot way sooner. It's nice information 1) for all the trans folks reading and 2) because it has the potential to inform the themes in the narrative. This whole story is about two chief things I think: death [the inevitability of] and identity [what defines you and why]. Why should you care if literally no one else (including the universe) does? That would be so cool to speak about in terms of a trans allegory! Why do you care about gender when it's just one thing in a world of crazy things? Or at the very least, how does it inform your identity? But this is a change I made on a whim suddenly, and I know Exactly Where I Want This Plot To Go, so trans topics and allegories as Plot Points probably won't happen.
On the more technical side of introducing trans characters -- how do you do that without just dropping "oh btw they're trans" in? Like, how do you make it a relevant thing to talk about, that doesn't feel forced or shoehorned in, especially this late in the story? Probably me overthinking, but I read it done wrong so often. It gets tired. And if I ever work on my original stories, there are trans characters in there! If I can figure out how to Do It Well in a fanfic, then I can figure out how to do it in original fiction someday maybe. So I kinda wanna take the introduction seriously? I've actually been thinking about it so much I've thought about rewriting the intro to the next chapter ahaha [it already needs rewritten in general, there's a lot going on, but the intro was going to be Helsknight waking up from something, and he sleeps shirtless, and not addressing top surgery scars then would be kinda silly I think.]
I can say at the very least, Gender Avoidant Wels probably won't factor in the story much. He is a character, but I don't think he'll become Enough of a character to faithfully address something like a trans self discovery arc. At best his issues with gender might be mentioned in passing.
Sorry! I know you probably want a better answer! My answer is basically: I don't know I'm still working on it. I want it to be there, but the capacity it's there is undecided.
That being said, I've been sitting on this glorious ask since the shenanigans started and the temptation to just Do That grows every time I read it:

Just an FYI, I'm probably going to be posting a little stardew valley content on here. I've had the flu recently and the only thing I've felt like doing is curling up with a cat and playing stardew valley. So there will be a small break in sims content, but only a small break 😊

Thinking about Jon, Jaime, and Theon all journeying to the underworld and being surrounded by death/dead people. I’ve always believed that the important connector here is Jon (because I believe he functions as a sort of God of the Dead figure - though that’s a story for another day), but like…it’s so interesting that all of them have this experience, and that Theon’s and Jaime’s dreams are connected mostly to Jon (and I guess to each other if you buy into weirwood.net). It’s hard not to read into the religious symbolism here because GRRM is no C.S Lewis so it’s hard to tell what Christian parallels are intended by the author. But like…one messiah, two “criminals”, all go through “death”? But who will reach salvation and who won’t? 🤔

Tbf to Jeralt, it's possible that his merc band could have gone through a dry spell where they couldn't find any decent-paying work and couldn't buy food, and maybe that's what Byleth was referring to; i also doubt he went to the feasts during those times and/or without making sure Byleth had enough food and water to last until he got home, if only because that'd be him being actively malicious towards them instead of just emotionally negligent like most of his actual mistakes as a parent.
Sorry for the late reply!
Well, it might have happened, someone replied under the post that Barney also mentions that "merc life" often involves not eating for a period of time, because that's how it goes, no cash, no food.
And yet, it circles back to the decision Jerry made - why accepting to be merc, if he had a kid to raise, if it could possibly mean the kid will starve?
I know they wanted to mirror uwu Ike'n'Greil - but as far as I remember the Greil Merc are never mentionned to have had food shortages or something?
Sure, Jerry was running away from the evil lizard lady (who never bothered to look for him btw), but FE16 comes after FE15, and in Echoes, Mycen too, is hiding from a (real this time!) death cult full of blue people, but Mycen ends up living in a village with Alm, instead of travelling the world and letting the kid be hungry.
I hope so anon! And yet, there's still something that strikes me as wrong, with Billy telling Barney they are used not to eat when food is scarce/there is no food, and the very same Billy being excluded from celebratory feasts while Jerry goes... If you knew someone used to be hungry - especially your own kid - wouldn't you want them to participate in a feast?
But then we'd talk about why Jerry didn't invite Billy or Barney to the feast while he went there alone so...
maybe lil'Eisner bastards will pop up in 9 months?

i would (figuratively) kill for orchestral arrangements of any hatchetfield songs. i would play these myself but my piano, clarinet, and ukulele skills would be hardly adequate. does anyone want to start a hatchetfield orchestra with me

pierro saying "fate grants favors to no one. only those who would fight it with every ounce of their being may earn the right to challenge it" about arlecchino reminds me a lot of that one nicole line, said after scaramouche removed himself from the irminsul, which served (almost) as a prelude to fontaine.
"unfortunately, the fate of teyvat cannot easily be changed. perhaps a god may have a slim chance, but for anyone else… who can say. […] history does not change easily, but human hearts can. believe your own eyes. only that which you see is true. what is unseen is but an illusion." - nicole
this line intertwines a lot with fontane's plot and the monologue arlecchino has in the region's teasers, there's a constant conflation between performance and reality. if it relates to furina because of her story and the fate of fontaine, could it also relate to the duality in arlecchino's character - that sways between the person who reformed the house of the hearth and the fatui harbinger? moreover, her constellation "ignis purgatorius" can also extend her connection or parallel to fontaine's history. fontaine's quest had a major focus on the original sin and the cleansing, and consequent absolvition, of its people. it's curious that her constellation includes the word purgatoris, something that can relate to the place or state of suffering inhabited by the souls of sinners who are expiating their sins before going to heaven or the act of cleasing/purifying.
could this mean something more for fontaine's story as a whole or is it simply an analagous coincidence?
