Long Hot Summer - The Style Council
“One important model was the playwright Joe Orton, who had been murdered in August 1967 by his lover, Kenneth Halliwell. Orton's tough persona, wit and daring use of gay themes in his work, and this at a time when homosexuality was illegal, excited Paul. Orton's gayness was very masculine: he was highly promiscuous, and he used his talents to challenge the very people Paul had attacked in Jam songs. Paul read John Lahr's excellent Orton biography Prick Up Your Ears and assimilated aspects of Orton's character and attitude into his own work. He wrote a song called “Up For Grabs!”, a play on the title Orton had used for his unfilmed script for The Beatles, and worked on a song with the singer Tracie which he called The Boy Hairdresser, named after Orton's posthumously published novel. He took things further with the video for this song [Long Hot Summer], which in part featured shots of Paul and his musical partner Mick Talbot lying by a river, tickling each other's ears. Paul is dressed only in cut-off jeans, his skin oiled. Polydor Records panicked when they saw it, said it had to be reshot. In response, Paul sent the head of the company a video with a note saying, "We have re-shot the video, here it is.' The video he sent was pornographic.” - Paolo Hewitt, Paul Weller: The Changing Man

Having some thoughts about the references and inspirations used for the Bad Batch’s designs.
So Boba Fett is my absolute favorite character and Temeura Morrison was perfect casting. I went to see the 2008 TCW movie in theaters because I was so excited to see him again, even if he was animated. You can imagine my disappointment. Whoever was on screen was not Temeura Morrison. You could sort of see a resemblance if you squinted and didn’t think too hard about it. They replaced Temeura with Racially Ambiguous G.I. Joe. If I didn’t know better and someone told me the animated clones are space Italians from the moon of New Jersey I would buy it. One Million Brothers Pizzeria and Italian Bistro. Not that there’s something wrong with being space Italian, I just don’t think it’s the right choice for the Fetts. The design got slightly improved by season 7 but it still bugs the hell out of me.

I did eventually get into the show later and (of course) got invested in the clones. Unfortunately, they were largely sidelined by the Jedi storylines. Out of the two new main characters created for TCW, Ahsoka definitely got more development and focus than Rex. When they announced The Bad Batch, I was excited to see a show specifically devoted to the clones… at least that’s what it said on the tin. We have all seen what lurks beneath those stylish helmets.

So who is?
Based on interviews with Filoni, it sounds like the Bad Batch was a George Lucas idea. And like all his ideas, it’s super derivative. The original trilogy directly lifted elements from sci fi serials, westerns, and samurai movies, more specifically Kurosawa films like The Hidden Fortress. For The Bad Batch character designs, the influence is obviously American action and adventure movies.
Now let’s get specific. Bad Batch, who’s your daddy?

Sylvester Stallone as Rambo in First Blood 1982. That bandana has become an integral part of the iconic action hero look. You see a character wearing one and it’s a visual shorthand for either “this character is a tough guy” like Billy played by Sonny Landham in Predator 1987, or “this character thinks he is/wants to be a tough guy” like Brand played by Josh Brolin in The Goonies 1985 or Edward Frog played by Corey Feldman in The Lost Boys 1987.

Hunter’s model is closest to the original clone base. If you look closely you will see the eyebrows are straighter with a much lower angle to the arch. His nose is also not the same shape as a standard clone like Rex, including a narrower bridge. It’s certainly not Temeura Morrison’s nose. Remember what I said about space Italians? It didn’t take much to push the existing clone design to resemble an specific Italian man instead of a specific Māori man. The 23&Me came back, and Hunter inherited more than the bandana from Sylvester.

The long narrow nose, the sharp cheekbones, the scowl. That’s no clone, that’s just animated Clint Eastwood. Not even Young and Hot Clint Eastwood from Rawhide 1959-1965. With that hair, I’m talking Gran Torino 2008. The man of few words schtick and family friendly toothpick in lieu of cigar are pure Eastwood as The Man With No Name from Sergio Leone’s spaghetti westerns A Fist Full of Dollars 1964, For a Few Dollars More 1965, and The Good the Bad and the Ugly 1966.
In a way, this is full circle because the actor Jeremy Bulloch took inspiration from Clint Eastwood for his performance as Boba Fett in ESB.
Wrecker

In an interview Filoni lists the Hulk as an (obvious) inspiration for Wrecker. Ever seen the old Hulk tv show from 1978? Well take a look at the actor who played him, Lou Ferrigno. Would you look at that. Even has his papa’s nose.
You could make the argument that Wrecker was influenced by The Rock, an appropriately buff ‘n bald Polynesian (Samoan, not Maori) man. But look at him next his Fast and Furious costar Vin Diesel and tell me which one resembles Wrecker’s character model more.

Tech is a little trickier for me to place. If he has a more direct inspiration it must be something I haven’t seen. That said, his hairline is very Bruce Willis as John McClane in Die Hard 1988. His quippiness and large glasses remind me of Shane Black as Hawkins from Predator 1987. In terms of his face, he looks a but like the result of McClane and Hawkins deciding to settle down and start a family. Although, Tech’s biggest contributors are probably just everyone on TV Trope’s list for Smart People Wear Glasses.
And finally,

Oh Echo. Considering he wasn’t created for the Bad Batch, he probably wasn’t based on a particular character or movie. But if I had to guess, his situation and appearance remind me a lot of Alex Murphy played by Peter Weller in Robocop 1987. However, Robocop explored the Man or Machine Identity Crisis with more nuance, depth, and dignity. Yikes.
The exact tropes and references used in The Bad Batch have been done successfully with characters who aren’t even human. Gizmo from Gremlins 2: The New Batch 1990 had a brief stint with the Rambo bandana. I could have picked any number of characters for Defining Feature Is Glasses but here is the most cursed version of Simon of Alvin and the Chipmunks. Suffer as I have. Marc Antony with his beloved Pussyfoot from Looney Tunes has the same tough guy with a soft center vibe as Wrecker and his Lula (also a kind of cat). Hell, in the same show we have Cad Bane sharing Cowboy Clint Eastwood with Crosshair. I actually think Bane makes a better Eastwood which is wild considering Crosshair has Eastwood’s entire face and Bane is blue.

So we’ve established you don’t need your characters to look exactly like their inspirations to match their vibe. So why go through the trouble and cost of creating completely new character designs instead of recycling and altering assets they already had on hand? Just slap on a bandana, toothpick, goggles, and make Wrecker bigger than the others while he does a Hulk pose and you’re done. Based on the general reaction to Howzer it would have been a low effort slam dunk crowd pleaser.
But they didn’t do that.
So here’s the thing. I like the tropes used in The Bad Batch. I am a fan of action adventure movies from the 80s-90s, the sillier the better. I am part of the Bad Batch’s target audience. Considering what I know about Disney and Lucasfilm, I went in with low expectations. I genuinely don’t hate the idea of seeing references to these actors and media in The Bad Batch. I don’t think basing these characters on tropes was a bad idea. If anything it’s a solid starting point for building the characters.
The trouble is nothing got built on the foundation. The plot is directionless, the pacing is wacky, and the characters have nearly no emotional depth or defining character arcs. They just sort of exist without reacting much while the story happens around them. But I can excuse all of that. You don’t stay a fan of Star Wars as long as I have not being able to cherrypick and fill in the gaps. This show has a deeper issue that shouldn’t be ignored.
Why do the animated clones bear at best only a passing resemblance to their live action actor? In interviews, Filoni wouldn’t shut up but the technological advancements in the animation for season 7. So if they are updating things, why not try to make the clones a closer match to their source material? Why did they have to look like completely different people in The Bad Batch to be “unique”? Looking like Temeura Morrison would have no bearing on their special abilities and TCW proved you can have identical looking characters and still have them be distinct. In fact, that’s a powerful theme and the source of tragedy for the clones’ narrative overall.
Here’s Filoni’s early concept art of Crosshair, Wrecker, Tech, and Hunter. (Interesting but irrelevant: Wrecker seems to have a cog tattoo similar to Jesse’s instead of a scar. Wouldn’t it have been funny if they kept that so when they met in season 7 one if them could say something like “Hey we’re twins!” That’s a little clone humor. Just for you guys 😘)

None of these drawings look like the clones in TCW, much less Temeura Morrison. Let’s be generous. Maybe Filoni struggles with drawing a real person’s likeness, as many people do. But he had to hand this off to other artists down the line whose job specifically involves making a stylized character resemble their actor. Yet the final designs missed the mark almost as much as this initial concept. Starting to seem as if the clones looking more like Temeura Morrison was never even on the table. It wasn’t a lack of creativity, skill or technical limitations on the part of the creative team. I don’t think there is an innocent explanation. They went out of their way to make the final product exactly how we got it.
This goes beyond homage. They could have made the same pop culture references and character tropes without completely stripping Temeura Morrison from the role he originated. It was a very purposeful choice to replace him with more immediately familiar actors from established franchises and films. It wouldn’t shock me if Filoni, Lucas, and anyone else calling the shots didn’t even think hard or care enough about the decision to immediately recognize a problem. And I don’t think they believed anyone else would either. At least no one whose opinion they cared about. Those faces are comfortingly familiar and proven bankable. They are what we’re all used to seeing after all. They’re white.
Lack of imagination, bad intentions, or simple ignorance doesn’t really matter in the end. The result is the same. Call it what it is. They replaced a man of color with a bunch of white guys. That’s by the book garden variety run of the mill whitewashing. There’s no debate worth having about it. For a fanbase that loves to nitpick things like whether or not it’s in character for Han to shoot first or Jeans Guy in the Mandalorian, we sure are quick to find excuses for clones who look nothing like their template. Why is that? If you don’t see the problem, congratulations. Your ass is showing. Pull your jeans up.

The Big Read – Lewis Capaldi: “I make jokes because I’m comfortable with who I am”
The breakout star of 2019, Lewis Capaldi has the midas touch and the world at his feet – but he still likes talking about his pubes and dreams of meeting a girl who'll break his heart for real. NME Deputy Editor Dan Stubbs meets the cocksure 23-year-old in Dublin for a Buckfast sesh and quickly discovers a legitimately hilarious talent who's far from the “big fucking annoying cunt” he thinks he is.
Lewis Capaldi is miming a range of sporting activities. He bounces an invisible basketball around the stage. He boots an imaginary football into the crowd. And after some minutes of this, he poses with an imaginary dart in his hand. Every time he mimes pulling back to throw it, he changes his mind and walks over to take a sip of Guinness instead – to the delight of the crowd. When he finally throws the thing, they roar with approval, before goading him into downing the rest of his pint. And of course: he does. 
It’s November 21 at the Olympia Theatre, Dublin. So far Capaldi has spent 10 minutes playing three songs and 15 minutes doing what, in the most affectionate terms, can only be described as dicking about. It shouldn’t be this funny to watch, but it really is. And the price of witnessing this spectacle? Depends when you got your tickets. A tout offered to take NME’s off our hands for €500 outside the venue. 
A year ago this may have sounded like madness, a sign that the world was heading to hell in a handcart and we’d be closing out the decade in a post-apocalyptic new reality, eating boot leather and watching jesters for entertainment. But in 2019, Lewis Capaldi has proved, conclusively, that what the world was waiting for was a pasty-faced, pasty-loving, 23-year-old Scot with an act that’s 50 percent heartbroken balladry and 50 percent improv comedy. And it is a worldwide thing – Capaldi is a global hit, a bona fide phenomenon. A superstar whose first encounter with NME is backstage, hurtling along the corridor clutching a handful of items. “Got my passport, my acid reflux tablets and my water – and that’s all I need!” he says, whizzing past. “And now, I’m off for a small pish.”
When listing Capaldi’s many 2019 achievements, they start to lose meaning, like contemplating distances in space, or making sense of the costings in the Labour manifesto. But here are a few: The Brits’ Critics Choice award. A Number One album with ‘Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent’. A Number One single with ‘Someone You Loved’ in much of Europe, the US and the UK, where it spent seven weeks at the top. The hardest touring artist of the year, playing over 250 shows. A scene-stealing Glastonbury appearance.
If you’re to believe the stories in the Scottish tabloid press, Capaldi’s music can practically cure leprosy. He’s even had a beef with Noel Gallagher, once a mark of honour, but now a tussle with adversary so easily shot down it’s a bit like watching the moment someone first beats their dad in an arm wrestle. 
Yesterday brought news that Capaldi been nominated for Best Song at The Grammys, which in early career terms is the equivalent of being up for the Best Actor Oscar for your school production of Macbeth. “I’m up against Billie Eilish, Lady Gaga, Lizzo, H.E.R., Lana Del Rey, Taylor Swift…” he says. So he’s in there representing the men? “Yes, at long last!” he jokes. “At long last, straight white men finally have representation.”
“If I’m being honest, I did think ‘Old Town Road’ would be nominated,” he says, being serious now. “Maybe if I win I’ll Kanye myself. ‘This should have gone to ‘Old Town Road’! (But I am going to keep it)…’”
Capaldi is an expert at shrugging off his achievements. His unfaltering humility is a huge part of his appeal but even he concedes it’s starting to seem a bit forced. “When I read my interviews back, I always think if I wasn’t me I’d think: ‘you’re full of shite’,” he says. “Like, stop saying you can’t believe it. You can believe it! But it is so surreal and it seems like almost quarterly it kicks up a notch. Like, yesterday with the Grammys, yet again all this shit’s getting more and more mental, more beyond belief.”
Capaldi watched the Grammy nominations on his laptop, which was resting on his chest with the screen close to his face – a set-up he describes as his “home cinema” – and he admits he did get properly excited at the news. Mostly, though, he tends to find himself reacting to things how he thinks he should. 
“I’ve got a very bad way of being like, So you’re supposed to feel this way in this moment,” he says. Like when someone passes away? “Exactly, yeah. Like, four months after my grandma passed away, I’m like, ‘Fuck, my grandma’s died,’ and I’m in Somerfield or something. I mean, not in Somerfield, because it’s not been open for fucking years.”
Capaldi even plays down the success of ‘Someone You Loved’, the song that scored him the Grammy nod. In his eyes, it’s just “one of my songs that’s doing a little bit better than the rest”, but it’s already become a popular standard to sit alongside Robbie Williams’s ‘Angels’ or Adele’s ‘Someone Like You’, one of those tracks that will be soundtracking marriages and burials for years to come. Which of those would he prefer it be used for? “Burials,” he says, with no hesitation. “Don’t start falling in love to my fucking music, right? See if I see people kissing at my shows, fucking stop that! These are sad songs, you bastards.”
Like Lewis himself, a large part of the charm of ‘Someone You Loved’ is its absolute universality, which is not to say it’s banal, more that everyone who has lost someone at some point in their lives – which is most of us – can identify with it. For Lewis, it was the aforementioned loss of his grandmother that proved the catalyst for the song, but he made it more open to romantic interpretation because it felt “too morbid” to write explicitly about. 
And it didn’t come easily. Where other songwriters boast about dashing off huge hits in barely the time it takes to play them, Capaldi admits to labouring over his compositions. Writing songs, he says, is “a massive pain in the fucking arse sometimes”.
“Growing up I read interviews with people like Paul Weller, Paul McCartney – all the Pauls – and they’d say the best songs just sort of fall in your lap,” he says. “After six months at the piano writing ‘Someone You Loved’ I’m like, ‘You fucking lying bastards, that’s taken me fucking ages.’”
Many of Capaldi’s songs, which he endearingly describes as ranging from “big piano ballads to bigger piano ballads” draw on his first major relationship which – you may have guessed – is no longer a going concern. But it wasn’t a dramatic event. “Adele wrote her album about a relationship breaking up in a bad way, being jilted I think,” he says. “I wrote mine about a relationship that just ended, just fizzled out. I’d love to be jilted by someone, then I could be as successful as Adele.”
I ask if he worries that – at 23 – he doesn’t have a great deal of life experience to draw on. “I spent my entire life writing this first album,” he says, “but the stuff I’ve experienced in the last year has been much more of a growing experience than living in my mum and dad’s house in fucking West Lothian.”
How about the fact that his next girlfriend, whoever she may be, will be on different terms, it being impossible for her not to know she’s dating Lewis Capaldi the world famous pop star? “Well, I don’t know. It’s not like I’m Justin Bieber,” he says. “Today was the first time I’ve ever got out of the car at a venue and someone screamed. Normally people just shout something at me that I’ve said on Instagram about my pubes. I guess, at worst, my next partner would think I’m one way because they’ll hear the songs and think I seem very nice and level headed, but then find out I’m not.”
What’s the reality?
“Big fucking annoying cunt.”
It’s slightly unfair to question the depth of Capaldi’s life experience, because at the age most of us were familiarising ourselves with yo-yos, pogs or fidget spinners (delete as appropriate), Lewis was embarking on his music career. He began performing at 11, largely in pubs and clubs in the conurbation between Glasgow and Edinburgh where he grew up. The experience of having to hold his own in intimidating spaces at such a young age probably explains much about his easiness around people. 
“I found that at 11 it was, ‘Oh he’s quite cute, he came and stood up here and he’s doing very well.’ When I got to 14, 15 and my voice changed and I lost any remnants of cuteness – which as you can tell have not returned to me – that’s when I started to pick up a bit of the patter. You get to know your way about how to speak to people.” 
Around that time, Capaldi actively worked on changing his vocal style to something more like the wolfy howl we hear today. What was once a ”high and smooth” voice had broken. Inspired by Paolo Nutini and Joe Cocker, Capaldi added some gravel. “I thought it would be a good idea to put a bit of rasp in, to make it sound even more terrible,” he says.
For years we’ve been force-fed sensitive young men-next-door with beanie hats, beards or lumberjack shirts singing to us about their problems. In a quest for authenticity, they’ve presented themselves as troubled, serious souls. Capaldi, meanwhile, has given us the sensitive songs with a side order of toilet humour and the kind of prolific, creative swearing worthy of The Thick Of It‘s Malcolm Tucker, as played by his distant cousin Peter Capaldi. 
Stand-up comedians often make a point of referring to the most funny-looking thing about themselves as an icebreaker with the audience, a way of getting them on side. Capaldi has the same trick – there’s not a single thing about his looks or his music you could say that he hasn’t beaten you to. Try and come up something better than saying he looks like “a melting hippo”, we dare you. 
He has zero pretence – he’s a guy who can literally piss himself on stage and laugh it off. “That only happened once,” he says. “And I’ve always been like that, even back in school. If I was meeting someone for the first time I’d be like, ‘Hello, how are you? I’ve got diarrhoea and I could spew or I could blow at any moment. It puts me at ease, being honest.’”
“People think I make jokes because I’m uncomfortable,” he adds. “Actually, it’s the opposite – I make jokes because I’m comfortable with who I am. I say that I’m a chubby bastard because I am a chubby bastard.”
I put it to him that, possibly, he may be the first body-positive male icon – an important thing given Capaldi is part of a generation of young men who feel under enormous pressure to have an Insta-chiselled body. “I don’t know if I can accept that, because I probably don’t use the correct vernacular,” he says. “It’s probably not good to call yourself a chubby cunt, but it’s never been something that’s bothered me. I’ve been a very slim man, I’ve been a man who’s gone to the gym, but even when I’ve done that someone calls you fat anyway, whether it’s your ma, your da, your best pal.”
Capaldi hasn’t, as of yet, had any sort of pop star makeover. He still looks like a kid who’s moved out of home for the first time and is stacking up the washing to take to mum’s. He does, however, have a personal trainer on tour and has been exercising every day. “It’s more of a mental health thing,” he says. “It gives me energy and keeps me happy. I mean, when I’m actually doing it I fucking hate it so much, but it feels better after.”
I ask how his mental health is bearing up to his new everyday reality, an extraordinary experience for anyone to process. “That’s what I think about taking the piss out of things,” he says. “I take the piss out of doing things on stage and how mental it is because you have to, because it stops you getting caught up in it. Summer last year I started having massive panic attacks. I was supposed to do Austin City Limits but I had to cancel because I was just having panic attack after panic attack, and I thought I had something seriously wrong with me, because I’m a bit of a hypochondriac. And I went and got a fucking MRI scan. But they said I was just anxious, just recalibrating to this new fucking lifestyle. So I said, right, cancel everything for three weeks, and no one gave me any shit for it.”
At showtime, the atmosphere at tonight’s gig offers a glimpse of the bubble Capaldi is living in these days. The Olympia is a grand old theatre and Capaldi could probably have sold it out 50 times over; the reaction from the crowd is something like Lewmania. 
Afterwards, we head backstage again, where I’m ushered into a room containing about a dozen members of Capaldi’s family. I’m plonked on a chair right in the middle, handed a massive wine glass full of Buckfast by his cousin and grilled by his dad, a fishmonger and the very driest of wits, about my intentions for this article. He’s seriously proud of his boy, having supported him since the very beginning, even playing the supportive parent role when Lewis auditioned for Britain’s Got Talent aged 12. 
The afterparty moves to a private room at a nearby pub. Lewis’s hulking great cousin – the one who brought the Buckfast – is getting the shots in. His auntie is looking on, concerned, as two girls chat him up at the same time. “He’s only a wee one,” she mutters. While his friends and family enjoy the party and a certain NME journalist accidentally smashes the first of a series of glasses, feeling the effects of downing that Buckfast in an ill-advised attempt to curry favour with the family, Lewis makes his final rounds then politely excuses himself, looking a bit hangdog about it. He has another big show tomorrow. Sad to leave your own party, you imagine.
At points in the interview, Capaldi had been making a short, forced coughing noise, which he shrugged off as nothing. But the next week, he cancels a number of shows on health grounds, having been warned by his doctor that he risks losing his voice altogether if he doesn’t take action. In the end, he plays just four more gigs of the UK leg of the tour – in London, Edinburgh and twice in Glasgow for the homecoming finale. All further activities are cancelled by management, including a follow-up NME interview, but he is sent to complete the year’s touring commitments in the States before heading home for a well-earned few days celebrating Christmas with his family, which he says typically involves plenty of booze and lots of piss-taking. If you think you’re feeling ready for the break today, spare a thought for Lewis.
Next year looks to be just as busy as this one. He is, right now, just about the most in-demand young man in the world. At some point, he’ll have to start thinking about his next album too. “I don’t know what the fuck it’s going to sound like, I don’t know what the fuck it’s going to be,” he says. “Ballads, havin’-it tunes, I don’t know. I’ve got voice notes, melodies, stuff like that, but that’s just me and an acoustic guitar.” 
Considering what he said about his hypochondria, it’s likely the idea of losing his voice is weighing heavily on Capaldi’s mind. But he’s already decided there’s a backlash coming anyway. “You do get warned, as you’re coming up: ‘By the way, everyone’s gonna turn on you pretty soon’,” he says. “I guess I’m always just kind of waiting for it. I’m very doomsday. Like, if it’s not happened yet, it’s gonna come. And I can’t wait for the downfall!”
He might be surprised. People have plenty of different reactions to Capaldi’s music, but it’s pretty much impossible to find someone who doesn’t think he seems like a bloody great bloke.
And besides – if he ever finds he can’t sing, he’d make a killing at The Fringe as a physical comic.

Shipping Questions Challenge
I saw some other people answering these questions so I figured I would. This is basically everything ever about my shipping history.
Talk about the first ship you ever had.
My first ship was Bellamort. I was 11 and was in the process of reading Harry Potter for the first time. Something about them both intrigued me and despite Voldemort supposedly not being able to love, I always felt like he had a soft spot for Bellatrix. After Cursed Child, turns out I was right. ;)
Talk about three of the most important ships throughout your life.
Bellamort is definitely one of them because they were my first ship, not to mention the first fanfic I ever read was about them. Jamko is probably the biggest one because ever since I saw them for the first time, I have been obsessed with them. They made me feel like no other ship ever did. The night they became canon was the best night of my life, hands down. Joe and Mika from Morning Joe are probably my third because they gave me the same effect Jamko did. I ship a lot of real people and celebrities. I think it’s fine as long as people don’t get creepy about it.

Do you have many ships that never got together at all?
The only one I can think of off the top of my head would be Captain America and Black Widow. They vibed all through Winter Soldier, but Marvel had to kill their potential relationship so that she and Hulk could be a thing. I’m still holding on to hope for them in Endgame though. I also have a lot of ships that are currently in the will they/won’t they phase.
Do you ship any characters that have never met?
No. I can’t ship people who I haven’t seen together.
Talk about your favorite first kiss.
Jamko’s first kiss back in season 4 of Blue Bloods. It was a little awkward but my 13-year-old self was losing her shit. I also had to wait a week after that episode aired to watch the episode. The struggle of having a flip phone and being on vacation was real.
Have you ever been disappointed when your ship finally got together?
YES. Jamko has been a complete mess all season 9.  I’m not sure what the writers are trying to do with them, but they’ve completely killed their chemistry. I thought this season was going to be iconic, but it’s honestly been such a letdown. I wanted them together, but not with this sappy writing.
Has a ship ever broken your heart?
Jamko is kinda breaking my heart because they’ve been so out of character.
How do you feel about will they/won’t they?
It’s the best kind of ship tbh. There’s nothing better than the week to week anticipation of wondering if that week will be the week they finally happen or make progress. I love a good slow burn. You can’t say you’ve truly shipped something unless you’ve shed tears and felt pain because of the frustration of waiting.
Have you ever “shipped at first sight”?
Definitely. When you know you know. I fell in love with Jamko the minute I saw them.
Talk about a ship you initially disliked.
Initially, I hated Reylo. When Force Awakens came out I was 100% a Finn/Rey shipper. I thought her and Kylo were gross. But that all changed in The Last Jedi. Their “force Skyping” converted me. I love a good AU Reylo fic.
Talk about a pairing you’ve stopped shipping romantically.
I guess I would have to say Finn/Rey. He’s with Rose now, and as dumb as that ship is, I honestly think Rey and Kylo have more of a connection now. I also used to be really into Weller/Jane from Blindspot, but that pairing and show are shitty now.
Talk about a moment which made you question an entire ship.
This season when Jamie and Eddie were playing mini golf and Jamie revealed that he had proposed there, I was baffled. I simply don’t want to believe that he proposed to her there right after she saved him from being shot. Seriously, who thought that was a good idea?
Have you ever shipped something despite yourself?
There are a few ships that I kind of don’t advertise that I’m in to. Joe and Mika and Bellamort would be a few examples.
Talk about a ship you feel alone in shipping.
I feel like I’m the only person who ships Joe and Mika. I feel like everyone hates their politics and judges them because of what they talk about on their show. Also, they’re like 50-year-old news anchors and most of my friends think I’m pretty weird for liking them anyway. There’s probably someone out there who likes them as much as I do, I just haven’t found them yet.
Is there a ship you just don’t get, but have nothing against?
I guess Samar and Aram from Blacklist. They’re ok I guess, but I don’t really ship them. I don’t have anything against them though.
Which of your ships have the best chemistry?
Currently? Higgins and Magnum no question. But Ellick, Slibbs, and WonderBat are some of my other favorite matches in terms of overall chemistry.

Many of the ships I have have become canon since I started shipping them. I find myself beginning to ship people, and then they get together down the road. There’s honestly nothing that I ship that I believe has no chance of getting together.
Have you ever shipped a pairing before you even started watching the show/movie simply because of gifs and graphics or similar?
Yes. This is what prompted me to start watching the new Magnum P.I.
Have you noticed a pattern in your shipping? Is there a romantic dynamic you’re more drawn to?
Yes. I love pairings where both people are very strong and independent, but unstoppable together. I pretty much exclusively watch crime dramas, so I especially love police and military couples. If they have obvious sexual tension, I’ll probably be drawn to them.
Is there a ship you’ve shipped for most of your life?
I guess my longest ship would be Bellamort, which I started shipping when I was 11. I’m 18 now, but 7 years is a pretty good amount of time. I’ve also shipped Jamko for 6 years now.

“I think the JJ one’s fake” I smiled, turning to Joe.
“Yeah, me too” He nodded, turning towards freezy who had an unhappy look on his face.
“No!” He groaned, leaning back in his chair so quickly that he nearly fell off.
Laughing, I raised my hand up to high five Joe in celebration.
“A shot for you, my good sir” I said, faking an accent as I handed him a shot.
He chuckled, looking at the shot glass in his hand for a moment, before shrugging and raising it to his lips, barely even flinching as he swallowed.
“Your turn” He said, casually.
“You need to teach me how to take shots” I smiled, staring at Cal before Joe cleared his throat.
“Sorry to interrupt, but we have a video to film” He laughed, pointing towards the camera.
“I can’t decide how good these are, but we’re about to find out” I smiled, reading my sheet of paper.
“I once broke into my friend’s house in the middle of the night for a bowl of cereal.” I began, messing with the sheet of paper in my hand.
“I was involved in an FWB relationship with JJ a few years ago, and finally, I used to do volunteering in my free time when I was a teenager” I concluded, looking between the two.
“Well, this is obvious” The two of them said, making me smirk.
“Oh yeah?” I asked, smiling.
“The lie is obviously the JJ one” Cal smirked, proud of himself.
“Are you sure?” I laughed, tossing my paper at the bin, beside my door.
“Certain” He said, moving towards me.
“Me too” Joe agreed, nodding.
“Well, you’re both wrong” I shrugged, grabbing a bottle of water as the two-looked shocked.
“Wait, what?!” Joe gasped, a laugh of disbelief leaving his lips.
“How did we not know about this!” Cal asked flabbergasted.
“No way, you and JJ?!” Joe continued.
“Yep, six months” I told them, the pair still looking like they had just been told their girlfriend was pregnant.
“Shots for you both” I laughed, pouring them a shot of vodka.
“This isn’t fair, man” Cal sighed, looking at Joe before they both took their shots in sync.
“How did JJ lay you before me?” Joe asked, earning a punch to the shoulder.
“Back off, she’s my girlfriend” Cal chuckled, wrapping his arm around my shoulder, tightly.
“Well, I think this a perfect time to end the video” I said, continuing with my outro, despite the two men pulling faces in the background.

“As fun as it has been filming with you, I need to leave” Joe said, standing up from his seat and brushing off his jeans.
“Do you want me to call you an uber? You’ve technically been drinking” I offered, to which Joe agreed.
“Come on then”

“I still can’t believe you’ve fucked, JJ” Cal sighed.
We were currently sat on my couch, his arm placed on the back of the chair, over my shoulders.
“It was a hard time” I chuckled, leaning against Cal.
“I still don’t like it” He mumbled, thinking for a moment before smashing his lips against mine.
“Do I sense jealousy?” I smirked, my hand on his shoulder, the two of us laid back on the couch.
“I have every right to be” He whispered against my lips, pressing them back against my own.
“You do know JJ is going to comment on that video, right?” I asked, my hand now on the back of his neck.
“Well, I’m going to show him who you belong too” He smirked, his lips slowly travelling down my neck, making me giggle.
This was going to be great.

Lewis’s introduction.
All of Boddicker’s gang being instantly identifiable, with personalities of their own. It’s straight out of an 80s Marvel comic but it works so well.
Speaking of Marvel: the fact that two ROM comics are prominently featured.
Johnson’s grin while tasting RoboCop’s protein paste not once, not twice, but three times.
RoboCop’s Auto-9 pistol. It’s apparently a real gun, the Beretta 93R, with some modifications, which I find scary and interesting in equal measure.
Emil’s face when he sees that It’s Not My Problem! is on TV in the abandoned steel mill.
The square coffee cups that tell you it’s the future. (In case the terrible Ford Taurses weren’t a hint.)

Verhoeven’s direction of the boardroom scenes features smooth camera movements and long takes. They feel distinct from the rest of the movie without feeling out of place.

DIRECTIVE 4: [CLASSIFIED]
The fact that the Old Man definitely knows more than he ever lets on. 
The photography during the garage ambush sequence.

The New Year’s Eve party and that one project manager with glasses that every straight guy who was 13 or 14 when they saw RoboCop for the first time had an instant, life-long crush on.
RoboCop’s interface spike and how it’s covered with Boddicker’s blood when revealed in the final scene.
The cold authenticity of the medical sequence and its use of a real trauma team. It’s gory and unpleasant and sad. 
Peter Weller practiced moving as RoboCop for six months before filming started and it shows, even as the costume limited his movements.

Officers finally got the man's attention when they turned on the lights. The tired black police sergeant is a genre trope that’s getting long in the tooth, but Robert DoQui’s performance has so much damn verisimilitude that it bugs me not one bit.

The drug bust sequence is the kind of thing modern action directors should study and steal from without hesitation.
Johnson’s thumbs-up at the end.
“I had a guaranteed military sale with ED. Renovation program. Spare parts for years. Who cares if it worked or not?”
The way that Verhoeven and his editors keep things lean, despite delivering a lot of plot, information and character to the audience in an hour and 43 minutes. Not a single scene could be cut without the movie falling apart.

Ray Fucking Wise. How does he not have five retroactive Oscars for this movie alone?

The characteristics of different stop motion animations.
There are lots of types of stop motion animation and each has its own style and characteristics that makes it different from the others.
Brick-films are stop motions made using Lego. This is very popular type of stop motion. With brick-films you can can be very creative as the extensive nature of Lego mixed with a persons imagination. The actual process itself is quite easy all it requires is Lego and a camera and the ability to put the images into a sequence.
The downside to this type of animation is that it can be difficult to create a smooth sequence such as walking this is down to the limits of the limbs on a Lego figure. Along with this, Lego can be quite fragile so it can be difficult to work with but opposing to this the variety of Lego makes it so that you can create absolutely anything due to the mass of Lego props and characters available.

You would think that The Lego Movie was created using only Lego however, this is not the case. They actually used 3D CGI and created the sets using Lego. No physical Lego was actually animated. YouTube has tons of Brick-films. They range from videos to entertain as well as to educate.
This is a Brick-film made to entertain. The creator of the film took 6 months to create the film. The main things to remember when creating this type of stop motion film is make sure your camera is steadily mounted and that you lighting isn’t changed throughout suddenly. Also take your time. Don’t try to rush the process make sure you have plenty of time to shoot a scene so that you don’t forget where your up to or your figures are suddenly moved as this can really mess up your animation.

Another type of stop motion animation is pixilation. Pixilation is a type of animation in which uses people to do a frame by frame sequence. Some people take the approach of using the floor to there advantage. They will place the camera in a birds view shot and then lay on the flaw. This is a very common form used in schools when teaching animation. The idea of pixelation is to create a stop motion using actual people.  
The most famous films created using pixilation were the original Evil Dead films from the 1980s.

Pixelation gives the effect of the human being puppet like as it almost looks forced in the way a puppet master controls their puppet. The advantages of using pixilation is that it can be a very simple to do however, it needs devotion. Because of the characteristics of this style of animation. You have to put some time aside to film a scene because you have to stay in the correct position.

The majority of pixilation animations are just made to entertain. There aren’t many type of alternatives when searching for different types. Below is one made by Joe Weller.

This video uses pixilation using After effects and premier pro to create the effects used in it. Pixelation again is more of animation used to entertain however, it could be used to create educational animations or informative animations.
Another type of animation is clay animation. this is probably the most popular form of animation outside of 3D animation. Clay-mation is achieved through creating models made of clay or Plasticine to create movement. this from of animation can be fluid and quite easy to do again. The term clay-mation came from Will Vinton who actually copyrighted the term by his studio- Vinton Studios.
The great thing about clay animation is how easy it is to cause movement due to the fact that the materials used is flexible and can create human like movement. Some of the most famous uses of Clay animation include: Wallace and Gromit, ParaNorman and Morph.

Here is an example where clay animation has been used for educational purposes. Clay animation is a good way to create an educational animation aimed towards younger children because they will understand what it is and also be able to do it them selves and get involved with it and try and recreate the letters of the alphabet for example. However, clay animation is also used in film, in fact it is a very popular form to use for film animation as seen here:

Clay animation is able to be used fore a wide range of purposes and is a very easy technique to do however, like all types of animation it is time consuming so it does require patience and some skill to create a smooth animation.
One final form of animation is Puppet/model. this form of animation is similar to clay animation however a wider range of materials are used whether it be wood, clay or 3D printed parts. Puppet animation is a really good way to create fluid life-like movements because you can have such detail especially with 3D printed parts. One film where this was used was Kubo and the two strings. they used these printed parts as well as wire models for there puppets. they created a ton of faces so that they could have fluid facial movements.

This form of animation is a lot more complicated and as a cause is only really used for bigger productions such as feature length films compared to amateur animations. However, this doesn’t mean it could stop you from using it. This form of animation has been on the rise for the past 8 years now and has started to become a lot more prominent in animation children films. Personally, I feel it is a really good way to create a strong looking and feeling animation film if doen with care and time. These types of animations are time consuming but do produce a well crafted film.
Whilst considering this type of animation lets also have a little look at 3D animation. 3D animation is also very common these days and is widely used on TV adverts for informative effect as seen here:

This video shows some 3D animation used to inform people of road safety especially aimed towards younger children. The reason why this is effective is because it is serious but by using animation it makes it more appealing and whilst not being real people it still get the message across to the younger audience.
From what I have shown here in this post about a few forms of animation techniques and also what purposes they are used for. You can see how each are similar in there characteristics and purposes but each of them has something that makes them stand out and be that bit different. All of them can be used to create fluid animations, they can even be combined with real life seen in the most recent M&M adverts.

Animation is a greate way to create short videos or full fetaure films, they are quite easy to do butr do require some basic skill and equiptment and also a lot of time. Its all about making sure you take your time and produce fluid movements for a quality made final product.

Major Crimes, S2xE11: Episode Review
The intro is filmed like it in False Pretenses. Which makes me believe they shot all of that at one time and just disbursed it through out the season. Using it sparingly to subtlety remind us that Rusty is in danger and someone is after him.
What this episode is about: Butt Monkey Emma Catholic Julio Brandon North, The Killer & The Crime Being at odds Brandon vs Poster Boy Rusty vs Emma & Kris Sharon & Andy vs Taylor Sharon confronts Brandon Declarations Brandon & Grandma: My Only Family Rusty & Kris: A girl who cares Sharon & Rusty: Mother & her Son Sharon & Andy: Emotional Partners  Rusty's Stalker
Butt Monkey Emma "Just observing how horrible it smells in here." I love that Emma remarks how horrible it smells in the living room. To the point where she says it smells like the body is in there. And of course later on we find out that there actually is another body in there. The body that Emma later on unknowingly sits on.

"Don't Scream." It seems that even Amy isn't having Emma's shit. If your going to be at the crime scene you need to suck it up. Why in the hell is she even there? What purpose is this serving her? None of the other DA's regularly come to crime scenes the way she does. I feel that the only purpose this serves is straight up 'Torture Spoiled Emma'. Other than that I can't think of a logical reason why she is always at crime scenes and the morgue.

46:10 "Be still and know that I am God." Always knew that Julio was a devoted Catholic but the fact that he's got Bible verses memorized really shows just how much he studies the Bible. Even though they ultimately turned out to be Joe Fox's pin code that Brandon forced out of him, that verse is still important. It really tells us a lot about what kind of person Brandon is. Irrogant to the point of thinking he's invincible. Also that he plays God by holding people's lives in his hands.
Brandon North, The Killer & The Crime Loving that they flash back to the aftermath of the cleanup of the murder. So that we dive right into the killers mind. This guy is a complete psychopath. Showing how arrogant he is about not getting caught. That he just leaves all kinds of DNA and finger prints behind for the police. This is pointed out again when he destroys one of his victim's cellphones so the police can't track him down through it. He's a complete narcissist and thinks that no matter what he does he won't get caught.

It's not often that we get the crime from the perspective of the killer. So it's a welcome change of pace. There also doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to how he kills his victims. His weapons of choice seem more based on what he can find more so than what he brings with him. He's spontaneous and messy. He's really only kills those that stand in his way on his way to fame. His would be competition (if he'd gotten on the show) and those that may expose him. 
"It's not the shows fault that he can't handle rejection." Rusty talking some sense here. I do think think that certain things like modeling requirements can be ridiculious. You can do nothing about how tall you are and you shouldn't be punished for something as ridiculous as that. But at the same time rejection is a part of life, period. And if you can't handle rejection then your going to have some real problems. Romance, Sex, Jobs, Parenthood, there's always going to be some kind of rejection that you'll face no matter what you do. No matter how perfect you are.

Being at odds
Brandon vs Poster Boy
His rejection of not being picked for Poster Boy is what started his killing spree. So in a way he was at odds with Poster Boy and it's contestents.
Rusty vs Emma & Kris Kris proves just how caring a person she is when she spills the beans about the truth of the letters that Rusty has recieved. While Rusty doesn't see and doesn't appreciate it, it's probably what ultimately saved his life. I don't think that Rusty would have ever seen it coming the way he did when Weller did try to kill him. Once Kris tells Emma what's really going on. Emma goes straight to Sharon. And Sharon is so caught up in the case that she blows Emma off. One thing I don't understand is why didn't Emma tell her that Rusty is in serious danger. It would have gotten Sharon's attention.
Sharon & Andy, The Squad vs Taylor

Once again Taylor is all about releasing every detail of their crime to the media. I think in certain situations it's helpful to have the public's input on a crime. But Sharon is very strategic when it comes to how she's going to go about solving a crime and when and when not to hold back on certain information. When Sharon and Rusty see CNN's coverage of Brandon North, her reasoning for not releasing info to the public becomes very clear. Andy brings this up when Taylor pushes to release the info. He points out that North kills when he needs something. Both Sharon and Andy's points are that him getting fame and attention for killing may just prompt him to kill even more. I love how in tune they are with Brandon and his motives and how Taylor is way out in left field. 
But I do love that even though Sharon is put up againest a rock and a hard place. She always does her best to use that shitty situation to her advantage. Such as having Dr. Mohandie reach out to Brandon by placating him. Once again we have Taylor vs Sharon with Andy backing her up. Just think that at one time Andy was so very loyal to Taylor that he went into Brenda's division to spy and attempted to screw things up for her. 
It's amazing even when Taylor is faced with another murder he still thinks that his releasing info to the media was the right call. When in fact the release of the info to the public is what got that girl killed. And then when Sharon tells Taylor they caused the murder he blames it on the media! What an asshole! He takes zero responsibility for his own actions. Then he tries to spin it in a positive light by saying that no one will take him in because he's been plastered all over the news. 
And once again Sharon proves her strategic mind over Taylor's by using what North took against him and turning it into a GPS. As well as internet searches for the names of the victims they hadn't released to the public. This time Sharon isn't letting Taylor have is way. He could make it another order to release the names but Sharon would definitely speak out. 
Taylor always running to the media makes me think that he did that throughout his career. And he did show in TC that he basically used other people to do his own job. When he planted Andy in Brenda's unit as I mentioned earlier.
Sharon confronts Brandon I love that this episode was referenced in Shockwave. And Sharon's hesitation to call the bomber in that case came from her not being able to talk Brandon down for turning himself in. Sadly, Sharon doesn't have the greatest track record for talking killers down. That however is no fault of her own. She does her best by empathizing with them in order to gain their trust. It's just that sometimes things like this are out of our hands. No matter how hard we try. No matter how much we do things in the right way. Like reality, the end of a crime won't always be tied up in a nice neat bow.

As declarations go...
Brandon & Grandma "You always believed in me, even when other people thought I was crazy."
We finally see some real emotions here from Brandon, regarding another human being. That tell us that he's most likely a Sociopath and not a Psychopath. We did see some of this before. When Brandon would call his Grandma every single day. If he didn't care about her he wouldn't have bothered calling her everyday. Nor would he have bothered to even talk about her in his confession.
Rusty & Kris "I swore I wouldn't tell anyone but if something happened to him." One thing that makes me sad about Rusty and Kris' relationship is that Rusty pretty much writes Kris off after this. She only did it because she cared about him and couldn't stand to see if anything were to happen to him.  
"He can't know that I told you." "He will never hear it from me." One thing that I do like about Emma here is that she's FINALLY starting to see Rusty Beck as a person. If this were Emma at the beginning of season 2, she wouldn't hesitate to say this to Rusty.
Sharon & Rusty

"Whatever happens next, know I love you." What I love about this scene and those words. Sharon is finally telling Rusty whats been in her heart for nearly a year and a half. She has no idea wants going to happen. She has no idea if Rusty will be with her or put in witness protection. She knows that he could be ripped away from her as soon as he walks into that office. So if he is suddenly gone from her life she wants him to know that there is someone out there that loves him unconditionally. There are also no accusations from her on why he didn't tell her about the letters. She knows why he didn't tell her.
Sharon & Andy Sharon unloads on Andy. I feel like it's really the first time that she actively talks about her feelings to Andy (other than about Rusty). This is a huge breakthrough in their relationship. Because really, who does Sharon talk to about her feelings? She's so closed off and so self sufficient when it comes to emotional things like this.

Sharon hasn't really had a partner she can lean on. She'd had to do all of this on her own. And now Andy is starting to become that person, in the way Jack never was. What I love about this is that Andy has zero motives for doing this. He does it, simply because he cares about her. 
Andy gives Sharon all of the positives as she beats herself up.This is something we see more of as their relationship deepens. We get a very similar scene between the two of them in "Hindsight" pt4. The infamous Hug scene - which is one of my all time favorite Shandy scenes. 
After Andy points out that no one got hurt and that the victims wouldn't have to relive their trauma in a trial. Andy gives her some words of encouragement. 
"Listen Sharon, For whatever it's worth. You did great." At this point in their relationship, Sharon has given Andy permission to use her first name. He only seems to use it when they are not at work. And as I recall the only time we have heard him actually use her first name was when she tells him he has permission to use it. So for Andy to use her name at work is pretty significant. Andy is addressing Sharon the person. Not the Sharon the Captain.

Essentially Andy is saying "I see you. Behind that mask you put on." Going beyond Jack. We could even talk about how no one saw Sharon in TC. Even Andy. In "Dead Man's Hand" Sharon expresses concern about a member of her squad who she suspected was being abused by her husband. And this is what Andy specifically thought about her at that time.

And you know who saw Sharon? Ally Moore. She saw Sharon's heart and used that against her. And it worked.
Rusty's Stalker At the end of the episode we see Rusty's stalker writing more letters. It feels like the same letters but at the last second the Stalker starts addressing his letters to Sharon instead of Rusty. So what is the point in him doing this? I think he felt he was getting no where writing Rusty. He'd written how many times and Rusty just put the letters away hoping that it would all go away. He wanted Rusty's attention otherwise he wouldn't keep writing those letters.

What I would like to know is? What was the point for bringing Sharon into the Rusty/Stalker storyline? If they were going to do this at least bring some danger to her character. But there wasn't any other than here at the end of this episode. Later on when we met our Stalker Wade Weller, Sharon isn't anywhere near this guys radar.
What I didn't like: Not one of my favorites. I think what I dislike the most about this episode is Brandon's narcissism and how much his life revolved around fame. Just wasn't all that interesting. Brandon as a character...not very interesting. I think for them to do something like this - at least make a somewhat compelling character. 
What I liked: I really liked that we delved deeply into Brandon's mind. I loved that the case did not end up in a nice neat bow with the killer making a deal and behind bars. It's good to be a little messy from time to time. Sharon finally telling Rusty that she loves him. Someone finally spilling the beans about the seriousness of Rusty’s stalker. And the beginning of Andy being an emotional partner for Sharon.

He answered questions here and there, mostly forced a chuckle when fans would ask for a follow on Twitter and such, and the occasional banter back and forth, but ultimately he didn’t feel like doing much talking.
That didn’t got un-noticed either; there were Tweets from fans whom were watching streams or there in person, all aiming towards him being particuarly quiet and to himself. 
What’s so different than normal that made Chris not want to speak up? He was perfectly fine on the first day of the event. 
They didn’t know, but he did. 
Chris purposely turned his head to the side to fake scratching the back of his neck, and he snuck a glance over to you as you stood on the side of the panel with Joe Weller. You two were laughing back and forth and he caught a glimpse of you shoving him in the arm before he pulled you into a hug, and then Chris narrowed his eyes slightly. 
The panel was almost over, with the call-time usually being an hour long, they had nearly four minutes to wrap it up. Simon was answering the majority of the questions from the fans alone, so as everything was coming together to end, Chris stayed to himself.
Chris adverted his eyes a second later when he saw you shove Joe off and then turn back to the panel. Your eyes met for a second, and Chris cursed in his head.
Dammit Chris, why can’t you learn to stare subtly? She’s a person, not a fucking painting you moron. 
The panel ended just minutes later as they neared the hour mark, and Simon, Tobi and himself were forced to say one last goodbye to the fans. Chris grabbed his jacket, throwing it over his shoulder and walked off the stage. He followed behind Tobi as they made their way back through the side of the crowd and to the common room where anyone could lounge before or after panels or events.
Throwing himself onto the sofa, Chris heard laughter behind him. He turned his head, pressing his cheek against the leather cushion and looked up to see Tobi mimicking him and falling down on the open area next to him. 
“Are you still pining after (y/n)?” 
Chris groaned. Tobi was the only one, to Chris’ knowledge, who was aware of his feelings for you. Chris didn’t even tell him, he actually guessed it and Chris was too bashful to deny it. And clearly Tobi saw Chris’ side glances during the panel, or even one to notice. 
Chris didn’t mean for this to happen. He hated the fact that he’d fallen almost immediately for you when you started out on Youtube and started growing closer to the Sidemen, and then him as well. Chris never acted on his feelings, feeling that it was almost innapropriate as the others considered you like a sister to them. And the last thing that Chris wanted to do was place you in an uncomfortable position and turn him down, also his biggest fear was rejection, so that kept him from it as well.
You were originally from and lived in England, so the distance kept Chris from acting upon his feelings as well. But every single time you two were around each other, from the Sidemen events and Wembley Cup, it ate Chris alive inside.
Before Chris could speak up, the door to the common room opened again and this time laughter was heard before he could see anyone. A second later you walked in, with Joe and Elliot, whom were just off a panel thirty mintues ago, hot on your heels. Joe was after you, clearly you two going back and forth. 
Chris watched you turn away from Joe and look at him, you shot him a smile, and a second later you were further into the room and away from him with the door swinging behind you. He watched you walk across the room and sit down next to Vik, and then you two started to engage in a conversation. You had a panel with him and Josh coming up soon. Joe and Elliot then preoccupied themselves with a game of foosball in the room, finally leaving you alone. 
“Chris, man, listen,” Tobi spoke up softly, so no one was able to overhear. “I know how it is dealing with those type of feelings. Llook, she is always going to be like a younger sister to us, so nothing is going to change. But she’s an adult, she can handle everything herself, and trust me, none of us are going to complain if you ask her out.” He explained. “We would have a problem if it was some random bloke we don’t like. But it’s you. All of us like you, we know you have good intentions.” 
Chris shook his head, huffing. “It’s not that, Tobi. It’s no use. She’s not even remotely interested in me.” 
Tobi, however, looked unconvinced. “You won’t know until you try. Sitting here, hoping and not acting on your feelings, it won’t help you or anyone else. If you try, at least you get a straight answer. Even if she does turn you down.” 
Chris winced at the mention of rejection. He hated facing rejection when it came from any source. Rejection kept him from many things in life. It was the reason he stopped dating for so long. 
“Shit, sorry,” Tobi stuttered out once he realized that was a sore subject for his friend. “But listen, Chris, you’re better off knowing than not.” 
Chris huffed again, adjusting to lay on his back and stare up at the ceiling. “I know,” was all he could muster up to say. 
His eyes wandered over the ceiling, counting the caked circles before he closed his eyes. He flew in that morning around seven and clearly he was more tired than he thought, because before Chris knew it, he was falling in and out of a nap.
Chris didn’t know how long he was out, it could range anywhere between ten minutes to an hour, but it was loud noises that brought him back to reality. Breaking off a dream before the climax, Chris batted his eyes a couple times before rubbing them, and then looking up when he regained clear vision.
“Yo, the panel with Vik, Josh, and (y/n) started a while ago.” Tobi said slapping Chris on the foot as it was propped up on the arm rest.
Chris shifted on the sofa and he realized his body had started to ache from staying in one position for his entire nap. “How long was I out?” He grumbled.
Tobi teetered his head back and forth. “About thirty minutes or so. The panel is gonna be about an hour long, so there is about thirty minutes left.” He explained and Chris nodded, pulling himself up from the sofa.
“Okay, I’ll be out in a minute.” And Tobi left with that, disappearing through the metal door. Chris sat up and looked around, realizing that he was the only one in the common room. It was around twelve, so he assumed everyone else was out to lunch.
Sliding his legs off the arm of the chair, Chris placed his feet on the floor and stood up from the sofa. He stretched for a minute, then checking his hair in the small mirror on the wall, and deciding it was good enough.
Walking out of the common room, Chris took a look at the large crowd that had gathered for the panel. He smiled, knowing that a majority of the crowd was there for you as well, and carried on to the side of the stage behind a barrier with the others. 
Chris watched from the side of the stage with Tobi as you answered questions along with Josh and Vik, which a lot of banter was insured. He watched you laugh and smile, and at one point get up to hug Josh as he said something lovely about you, and turned into you pulling him to the ground, which drew many laughs throughout the room. 
Most of the conversations and questions ranged from FIFA to Minecraft for Vik, and then to football challenges and such. That was until one of the last questions was directed at you about relationships, which also drew some whistles from the crowd.
“So tell us, (y/n), are you single?” Chris’ head snapped from the fan over to you and watched as a blush hit your cheeks.
You shrugged and laughed. “Well, I think that is my business and only my business.”
Chris’ heart sunk into his stomach. There was something about your answer that confirmed all of Chris’ doubts; you weren’t interested in him because you were definitely seeing someone else. Someone taller and more attractive him, someone with a high-paying job and didn’t rely on Youtube money to make a living. An image of you hand-in-hand with some random guy flashed in Chris’ mind and he sighed.
Chris didn’t stick around for the end of the panel, instead opting out to make his way back to the common room through the crowd. He was going to grab his things and then head out for lunch on his own.
He heard the thunderous applauds and whistles, even come screams as the door slammed shut behind him. Walking across the room, Chris grabbed his jacket that laid over the back of the sofa and slid it onto his arms. His movements were so much more violent all because of his emotions.
He was so caught up in his erratic movements; sliding on his jacket, grabbing his phone and wallet, that he didn’t even hear the sound of the door opening and closing behind him. 
“Chris?”
He jumped at the sound of a close voice. It scared him to the point where the hairs on the back of his neck stood up straight. “Jesus Christ, what are you-” he turned around to see you standing behind him with a slight smile. 
“I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you.” You apologized quickly. 
Chris shook his head. “No, no, you’re fine.” He said, now feeling a bit embarrassed on top of everything else. Shoving his wallet into his pocket, Chris looked back up at you, and realized that your nervous tendencies were now showing. He had known you for long enough to know that you shuffle your feet and chew on your lip when you weren’t completely sure of a situation; which was exactly what you were doing now.
“Listen, Chris,” you breathed out before looking up and meeting his eyes. “I was, uh, I was talking to Tobi and I just thought- well, I was just wondering..” you shook your head, mentally slapping your forehead over and over again. 
He smiled at your stuttering words and raised a brow. “What is it?”
You took a deep breath and calmed yourself before continuing. “I should have done this a long time ago, honestly, but I didn’t really know how.” You said. “So, Chris, would you want to go get lunch with me?”
Chris felt his heart speed up. Was he jumping to conclusions right now?
“Just us,” you clarified. “I want it to just the two of us.” 
Chris felt flustered and couldn’t believe his ears. Do you feel the same? Did Tobi put you up to this? Was everything that Chris wondered, but ultimately, Chris settled with the feeling in his heart (and gut.)
“You know what?” Chris smiled widely before holding out his arm for you. “I would love to.”

The Worth family has quite a history and some rare photos of one of their members brings part of his recuperation after being wounded a Vimy Ridge into a sharper focus.

Walter Garlick Worth was part of a family that was industrious. His father, Dyson, was involved in the yarn industry, beginning at the ripe old age of 7-years old as a “bobbin boy”. He parlayed this experience to rise in the ranks of the mill manufactory until, at the age of 21, he became a superintendent of the works he was employed at. Some drive to produce led the young Dyson to move to Gothenberg, Sweden in 1893-97. In 1913, Dyson and his family emigrated to Peterborough, Ontario and partnered with Issac Bonner to create Bonner-Worth Mill from the former Penman Mills.[i]

Walter was born on June 16, 1888 at Huddersfield, England to Dyson and Emma. He emigrated with his parents to Canada and was involved in the family business as his attestation papers indicate his “trade or calling” quite specifically as a “Manufacturer Worsted yarns”. At 27-years old, and with 3 years of militia experience with the 57th Regiment, coupled with his status as a manufacturer with probable management experience, he was enlisted with the rank of lieutenant on December 9, 1916 at Peterborough, Ontario with the 93rd Battalion.

The 93rd Battalion sailed to England aboard the Empress of England on July 15, 1916 and the men of the 93rd were soon to be disappointed as they would not be serving as a unit in the line, their battalion being broken up in order to reinforce other battalions of the Canadian Expeditionary Force.
It was in this circumstance that Lieutenant Worth found himself arriving at the 18th Battalion after a short detour to the 19th Battalion. He was originally assigned to this unit but early in his service he developed renal calculi (kidney stones) and after this medical condition was resolved after attending No. 2 Red Cross Hospital Rouen, France, he was assigned to the 18th. He arrived “in the field” on October 22, 1916. Several officers of the 93rd, such as Lieutenant V.M. Eastwood[ii] would also join the Battalion.
The Battalion had left the Somme sector at this time and was engaged at the Calonne (Lens) sector until it moved to the Vimy sector in mid-February.

On April 9, 1917 Lieutenant Worth was wounded by a German bullet. He was hit in the jaw and the resulting wound that fractured his jaw, carrying away may of his teeth from both jaws. It is recorded that the shot was fired from a German sniper and the sniper was captured and was compelled to help carry Lieutenant Worth back to an aid station.[iii] He recovered after being evacuated via Field Ambulance and Casualty Clearing Station arriving at the Duchess of Westminster Hospital on April 10, 1917. He was treated at the High Street Military Hospital (2nd Western General Hospital) at Manchester starting on the 15th. He then moved onto Peak Hospital (Canadian Red Cross Special Hospital), Buxton on June 16, 1917. Staying there for one-month he was finally moved to Perkins Bull.[iv]
During his convalescence, a series of photographs were taken of Lieutenant Worth. They show Leiutenant Worth with two companions. At least one of the shots appears to be taken on a seperate day (Worth is wearing a dressing around his face) and the balance of the shots appear to show him and his compatriots out on s ride to a farm with horses, a bucolic activity compared to the experiences Worth and the other officers had in the trenches.

After his medical discharge he was attached to The Office of the High Commissioner of Canada and struck off strength due to General Demobilization on March 21, 1919. Worth was able to get a leave to Canada for one-month from April 9 to May 9, 1918 and this leave was extended May 17, the date he returned from Canada and, again, took up his duties at the High Commission.

After his demobilization he moved to Los Angeles, California with the rest of his family and worked at their firm, Worth Brothers Inc. The Bonner-Worth Mill was sold to Dominion Woolens and the family moved to California in the 1920s and established Worth Brothers Inc, one of only two mills in operation on the West coast. The firm eventually employed 150 people.

He died on July 2, 1963 and is buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park (Glendale) in California.
The photographs of the Worth family, and those particularly of Walter Garlick Worth give us a sense of place, time, and the man. The Worths were industrious and active members of the textile industry and moved to where opportunity for growth beckoned. The sons of Dyson were all involved in the textile trade, influenced by the boom in textiles from their native town of Huddersfield. Textiles were in their blood and part of their heritage. They helped establish firms that bolsteredthe economy of Peterborough and Los Angeles.
The photographs also offer a contrast from the early 20th Century to now. Industries and fashions have changed. The original Bonner-Worth firm in Peterborough, along with Dominion Woolens, no longer exists. Worth Brothers appears to have disappear, though, ironically, the address appears to be home to a business in a field related to textiles.

Walter Garlick Worth contributed to two countries with his work with the textile firms the family was involved in, and he volunteered for duty when the Empire called. His service was short and his wounds terrible, but he persevered and continued his positive contribution to his family, his firm, and his adopted countries.

Jon ALi Celebrates 11 Years: The Dance Summer Playlist ’17 (Cover Shot By Jesús Baez)
Hello, my devoted music lovers.
Do you know what today is? It’s our anniversary, made for you and me. YUPP! Today, July 26, is Jon ALi’s Blog 11-year anniversary!! Eleven years ago on this #blessed day, I decided to share my love for music and all the ridiculousness that comes with it on what is, truly, my everything… my baby, my escape, my labor of love, my home. You get the gist, right? First and foremost I wanted to thank YOU all for the endless love and support over these past few years. The emails, the (mostly) sweet comments, the Facebook shares, the re-tweets, the recommendations… EVERYTHING! Seriously. The fact that there’s many of you all around the world devoting time out of your day to read the silly things I have to say about music is an insane concept to grasp. I do not take it for granted.
Today also marks one year since I decided to put the site on hiatus for its eventual relaunch, which TRUST, was no easy task. I’m very thankful for devoted Aussie Selenator Justin Weller and my longtime sis Stevie NYC for helping me out during that time. I also want to give a shoutout to the new members of the Jon ALi familia, my contributors Chris Fields and Jamie Sward, I cherish you both dearly.
So with all that said, I now have a special treat for you all: The Jon ALi: Dance Summer Playlist 2017 – it’s finally here!
Yes, “technically” the first day of Summer was a month ago (June 21), but I like to take my time.. you should all know this by now. ANYWAY: For this 26-track collection, I wanted to try and please everyone and all their summer music needs while still remaining a fresh vibe throughout. The result is an eclectic and lively collection of songs that I’m super pumped to share with you all. LA Times: Lakers end eight-game losing streak with victory over Suns, 122-110
During the Lakers’ 122-110 win over the Phoenix Suns, one Lakers fan sitting in the first row of seats at Talking Stick Resort Arena vocalized the complicated emotion felt by many like him these days.
“I’m fine with winning this game so long as we lose the rest of them,” said Jonathan Ajimine, a 29-year-old from Anaheim.
Ajimine wore a Kobe Bryant jersey and sat next to his father, Vernon, who wore a Magic Johnson jersey. They picked Phoenix as the site of a golfing vacation because the Lakers played there, and paid $220 for their seats. The younger Ajimine wanted to see a win — but he also wants the Lakers to keep their lottery pick and get one high enough that they can draft UCLA point guard Lonzo Ball.
“The season is a failure if we don’t keep our pick,” he said.
Thursday night in Phoenix, the Lakers beat a team whose fans have a similar conundrum to theirs. Wins are more fun. But wins can also threaten the future. A better record can reduce the chance of a higher draft pick. The Lakers (20-45) would lose their top 2017 first-round pick to the Philadelphia 76ers if it falls out of the top three. If that happens, the late first rounder acquired in a trade with the Houston Rockets will be their top pick.
The worst record in the NBA — and consequently the best chance at a top three pick — is out of reach. The Brooklyn Nets only have 11 wins. The Lakers’ chief competition for the second-worst record in the NBA is the Suns, who are now 21-44.
“That’s going to play itself out in the end. No matter what happens, it’s still going to come down to the luck of the balls type of thing,” Lakers Coach Luke Walton said. “My job is to coach these guys to get better. We’re going to continue to do that and try to win every time we play.”
Driven by the memory of a 36-point loss to the Suns in February, and by the sour taste of an eight-game losing streak, the Lakers entered the game focused.
D’Angelo Russell played one of his best games this season. He excelled both in scoring and his facilitation of the offense. Russell scored 28 points, making six of nine three-point shots. He had three steals, three assists and no turnovers.
“He did amazing running the show, getting everybody involved and attacking and scoring when we needed it,” Lakers forward Julius Randle said.
Randle, Brandon Ingram, Jordan Clarkson, Larry Nance Jr. and Ivica Zubac also scored in double figures.
By midway through the third quarter, the Lakers had taken what proved an insurmountable 11-point lead in front of a very conflicted set of fans — on both sides of the aisle.
“Any time they go against the Lakers, the lottery goes out the window,” said Javier Lugo, a 29-year-old Suns fan.
Joe Stack, 21, and Jack Shagren, 22, both go to school at a small college in Washington. They’re Suns fans, they’ve seen Washington guard Markelle Fultz in person, and they’d like their team to draft him.
Did Stack find the Suns’ recent three-game winning streak annoying?
“A little bit,” he said. “But I can’t do anything about that.”
Lakers fan Anthony Maldonado took in the game with his dad and two brothers.
“I always in my heart want the Lakers to win,” he said. “But I’m more relying on the lottery pick now that our season doesn��t mean anything.”
His father, on the other hand, said he didn’t care about the pick. He just wanted to see the Lakers win.
That’s a sentiment many lifelong fans can appreciate.
Like David Weller, 56, who has season tickets in section 226. He’s been a Suns season-ticket holder for 25 years, and has lived in Arizona since before the Suns even existed.
He hears it from his friends all the time.
“Dave, why do you want them to win?” he said, imitating his friends. “Don’t you want the lottery pick?”
He can’t help it. He hates losing too much.
