However, that did not diminish how well the experience shaped up to be. While something minor in most moments, it became really bothersome during times when the game required more investment, such as hard parts of a level, or even boss fights. The one complaint I could make against the game is regarding the performance, as I've faced many instances in which the game froze and had to be relaunched - while the computer per se remained unaffected. In addition, the soundtrack dials up the experience to eleven (pun intended), with tunes so catchy they'll stay with you long after you put down the controller. The 3D modeled graphics displayed in 2D perspective look wonderful, which helps to bring each of the impeccable designs to life. The game does not disappoint in the presentation department as well. The Retro Video Games I Keep Playing
Growing up in the 90′s, as a kid with limited exposure to game consoles, the number of titles I was able to enjoy were only a few. But, because of the few games that I had, I developed a deep affinity for these specific things. I played them over and over again, despite knowing the stories of the adventure modes and the secrets within. The games became easier after knowing what to expect in each and every turn but there was this force that compelled me to go back to playing again the next day once the experience ended. It’s not that I became addicted to them, though. They only kept me company in ways that peers couldn’t. I wasn’t a kid who isolated himself in the dark and played video games all day and I even invited some friends over for some couch-coop and versus mode. It’s that these games are so good, with their design, colors, play mechanics, and music. They gave me a sense of fulfillment that no other means of entertainment could provide. These are the games that I’m talking about.
Tumblr media
One of the titles that got me hooked is Megaman. I meant the ones that are on the Famicom or NES. That’s the first six games. I was able to memorize where the enemies came out for each title that I almost always played without getting hit. Despite seeing the cutscenes for so many times, I still continue to watch them and feel proud of my accomplishments. To this day, I play them from time to time and still have that awesome feeling of triumph after beating either of the six games. I can’t get enough of the blue bomber, Rush the robot dog, and even Beat the bird that takes out enemies. I know there are newer Megaman titles but I say no thanks since I prefer the original six.
Tumblr media
Sonic the Hedgehog on Sega was also great. I played Sonic the Hedgehog 1, 2, and 3 (with Knuckles), and spent hours finishing these. I only played a few times wherein I wasn’t able to collect all the Chaos emeralds for each level. After discovering them, every time I would play, I would find them to unlock Super Sonic. Rarely did I play with a friend when I played Sonic, though. It was almost always solo for me and I liked it that way. The speed awed me as a kid and it these games may be the ones that actually let me developed my hand-eye coordination best. Because with either of the Sonic games, you needed to know when to jump, spin-dash, and double jump. Of course, it’s way different when Sonic 3D Blast came along. My favorite before and up to now would have to be Sonic 3 & Knuckles, where you had this two cartridges stacked on one another to make Knuckles a playable character. Why? It’s the only game where you can play Hyper Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles after collecting those bigger versions of chaos emeralds.

So I've been thinking a lot about smash dlc characters so here's 6 characters I'd love to see in smash! The character I most wanted in was Banjo Kazooie so I'll be pretty satisfied with anything really but here are my picks
Tumblr media
Sora: I think sora would fit so well in smash, his battle style is so unique with the keyblade being such a cool weapon that can transform into a buch of things with formchange and teleport back to the owner's hand when thrown. We also got the super badass drive forms and the hella edgy Anti-form that would be so cool to see implemented in his moveset. the only real thing I see holding this character back is that he's not owned by Square Enix being owned by Disney instead. Idk how would Disney react to that. Also a lot of Sora's summons are Disney characters, his keyblade has the mickey head thing so idk that could be troublesome to license well. Also he's more on Sony and Microsoft consoles rather than Nintendo but so was Cloud. Guys but he's so adorable 🥺 the way he says sorry when messing up cooking with Remy from ratatouille just breaks my heart.
Tumblr media
Paper Mario: I feel Paper Mario is different enough from Mario to be his own character in smash.Paper Mario has a hammer, partners, the whole paper mechanic and that ability with the stars that appear again in Mario Party 5 for some reason... hm a lot to work with here. He's also completely silent unlike Mario! he'd be another flat character like Mr. Game n watch. Also, he just recently had a new game on the switch so that's a plus. I know it'd be another Mario franchise rep and people have been wanting Waluigi(let's be honest it's just to complete Wario and also cuz memes) but Paper Mario is way more unique and even has his own series of games. Keep the Waluigi-not-in-smash meme alive.
Tumblr media
Ryu Hayabusa: Ok. Ninjas. Ninjas in smash. Nintendo we need ninjas in smash... and I'm not talking about pokemon ninjas(greninja) that doesn't count. I'm talking about actual human ninjas. Ryu first appeared on the NES with the Ninja Gaiden trilogy of games(which I never beat cuz it's hella hard) so he'd be kinda like a retro character like Simon. I say kinda because he got a reboot on the xbox later on which Slapsss. But the NES wasn't the only Nintendo console he was on, he was also on the NDS(this game was super fun like you hold the DS sideways it's greatt) and Wii U(he's back on the Switch NES online collection thing too) Now, he is primarily a sword user like so many other smash characters but Ryu is diversity incarnate this man can use sooo many other weapons like a staff, kusarigma, tonfas, bows, dual swords, bladed nunchuks, freaking wolverine CLAWS oh and a modafuckin SCYTHE. So idk they could implement different weapons like they did with Byleth or make the Dragon Sword be his homie his only weapon to keep it classy. To complement that got the usual ninja stuff like the shurikens, the kunais and the totally not op Ninjutsu. Also he his so graceful and fiercee have you seen his fighting style? His movements are so cool to look at. Like, Izuna drop. In smash. Ugh husbando. He's owned by koei tecmo the same guys that did the dinasty warrior games and the fire emblem and zelda warriors crossover of games. So they've been working really close to Nintendo recently. Although the last we've seen of Ninja Gaiden was back in 2014. But like Banjo Kazooie hasn't had a game since 2008 so it's not a big deal. (Edit: wow so Nintendo just announced Koei Tecmo is doing yet another Zelda Warriors game :D andd they're lending them assets from BotW which means Nintendo really trusts this company so Ryu getting in Smash as a representative of Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja is very very likely, probably the most likely of the list)
Tumblr media
Dante: Hey we have Bayo let us have Dante. He's a cool mofo, he chill he badass. What else can I say? I love his personality ahhh (reminds me of Pale a bit) but I know he's another sword character but he has GUNS and can turn into a DEMON so I think they can make him stand out enough from the others. His fighting style is so stylish and cool yes yes. I feel Nero would be super cool with his devil breaker arms too but Dante is the face of Devil May Cry. I think dmc 3 is the only game on a Nintendo console though... But who cares get this mofo in smash please
Tumblr media
Travis Touchdown: why do I love these personality types hmm. Now he was a wii excluse for a while and most of his games were on Nintendo platforms first so plus plus. Yet another sword character oops but I mean he has a beam sword that's hella cool plus he can turn into a red TIGER. His game is a bit.. well mature, and not only on the gory side of things but there's like a lot of sexual innuendo (he looks like he's jerking off when he's charging his sword) but hey Bayonetta had her moments as well. We got a new game coming up in 2021 mhm. Anyway I wouldn't mind if he didn't got in probably just a bonus on my list.
Tumblr media
Okami: wow I want a lot of hack n slash human characters huh let's combo break that with Amaterasu! She's a wolf, a goddess, she's so cool definitely the most unique pick out of my choices here. like her game is so one of a kind it should be in museums across the world and they should have ppl handing out free copies just so everyone can experience this art in game form. Just image the possibilities of her moveset! She was in a fighting game before and it was amazing. We need more non-human characters in smash too. Hmm it is yet another capcom rep though(we have Megaman, Ryu and Ken and I want Dante too.) But let it happen please
So that's my list for now. If any of these characters get in I'd be sooo happy!! Let's wait and see.

Rockman.EXE Axess Episode 1 Review.
Tumblr media
Presenting Rockman’s new Style... Change.
I can’t promise that I am gonna review the rest of the episodes of Axess nor will I make it very long since I have already stated that this is my least favorite season, but this Corona Virus situation is already driving me crazy so I might as well vent my frustrations here.
Fun fact:
This season never aired in Latin America so I had no idea that there were more seasons beyond the virus buster episode. I watched it in English thinking that it was an episode from the first two seasons that I missed, it started with the same made up intro from the last season, but to my surprise the episode opens in Net City, something I don’t remember ever seeing in previous episodes, and then I saw Megaman’s art style and my confusion became excitement right before I heard the English dub the made me cringed so hard that it almost ruined the show for me, until the writing did that later on. (But I like Rockman’s english voice, it’s kinda hot n.n)
Episode tittle: Cross Fusion!
The episode opens with Rockman fighting two Navis at once in the Net Coliseum, and I’m already loving the art style and how they don’t show his face during the battle until Netto’s voice tells him that he already got their battle pattern. It was like they were saying, “ It’s him! it’s the Rockman you know and love after so long! And he looks slightly shinier too”!
Tumblr media
BTW, I’m watching this with Spanish subs, that were sadly not made by yours truly.
Anyway, Netto sends the long Sword and the Yo-yo chips that appear with a new cybernetic themed background and... WOAH WOAH WOAH! TWO DIFFERENT ART STYLES IN THE SAME EPISODE?!
Tumblr media
You thought I wouldn’t notice?
Not even five minutes in and this episode is already hitting me with inconsistent art to save in animation, which wouldn’t be so bad if it wasn’t noticeable.
Rockman defeats the two Navis and returns to Netto who gives us but a glimpse of the new PET design before the tittle card appears.
Tumblr media
But worry not, for the next scene shows us what the Advanced PET model looks like with this short and kinda lame commercial.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Believe in the heart of the chips”, it’s the vibe I’m getting here.
And I also never thought it would be possible for the Spanish subs to write something dumber than “Plug-in your heart”. (It’s roughly saying, “Do plug-in into your heart”)
We then join Netto skating with Meiru on her scooter who is basically shaming him for acting weak in his battle until the end, and do you see something wrong with this image?
Tumblr media
That’s right, good ol’ Rush is there on Meiru’s scooter for no reason, except to remind me that Rockman will never materialize in the real world like him.
Then they bump into Chisao, yes, Chisao, who wastes no time in telling the audience that Dekao is in Jawaii for some reason.
Tumblr media
What little Mr. exposition forgot to tell us is why is he there instead of Dekao.
Netto and Meiru invite Chisao to go with them to Scilab, which is now gonna be a very recurrent place, to deliver a bag to Netto’s dad who is in Japan working on something, and once he’s done he’ll go back to abandoning his family to travel the world.
He is working on a top secret experiment, so everyone is of course invited to watch it.
Tumblr media
These are Officer Mizaki and his Navi Prismman, who are not gonna be important until very later in the season where they’re affected by this show’s equivalent of drugs, but right now they are gonna remind us of the dangers of human trials.
Eguchi Meijin makes a comeback, since the last time we saw him he was making a late advertisement for Battle Network 3 in episode 51. He tells Netto and the others that the experiment is called Cross Fusion and that it is the next step after the Virus Buster episode where Dr. Hikari brought a bunch of cyber data into the real world, which is bringing a Net Navi into the real World through its operator’s body? That was already possible without the human body!
Tumblr media
What is the purpose of Cross Fusion then? Other than to turn the series into a superhero kind of show for western audiences.
There is no real explanation of why they want to do this or why Cross Fusion is the only way to achieve this purpose. Why not simply materialized the Navis like in the last episode? You can’t really argue that it was the viruses intervention that made this possible, because a “good” scientist would try to reproduce this result without risking the life of a human being, there certainly must be other ways to do so.
It seems that the only excuse they have is that Netto’s dad was not aware that this event happened because he was asleep during the entire episode, and if Netto never mentioned it even once.
Tumblr media
“I wanna risk my life too since that experiment reminded me how cool it was when Rockman materialized back in Jawaii when your Dimensional Core program was corrupted by viruses, so I would most definitely die just to see that happen again.”
Dr. Hikari: O_O
Yuichiro obviously denies his son’s suicidal request but just then, viruses take over Scilab, and the room they are in is locked down with the ventilation system sucking in the air giving them 15 minutes before they run out of oxygen.
We cut to a commercial break where we see a spoiler of Netto getting his wish right after his dad said no.
Tumblr media
It’s just Rockman with a different outfit design and brown hair and eyes.
As per the norm, Netto and Meiru plug-in their Navis with new animations that are gonna be recycled since they changed the art style once again.
Rockman and Roll are sent into the computer via infrared beams and we see that the computer is full of Mettools and Spikey viruses, while showing us Roll’s bum for some reason.
Tumblr media
I feel robbed, I want my Rockman butt shot!
Time to change the art again.
Tumblr media
Here is something new that I like, they are now showing how the Mettool viruses can block shots.
Tumblr media
This probably means that these are high level Mettools since those are the ones that block attacks in the games.
I also like how they get creative with the chips they use like the Aqua Sword.
Tumblr media
Even Roll’s Aqua Tower looks more powerful.
Tumblr media
You almost feel sorry for those viruses.
They even make the Black Hole, a chip I find pretty useless in the games, look epic.
Tumblr media
Or maybe I’m just not using it right.
They keep running out of air, and once again Meiru has to show that she is the weakest of them all by fainting right before Roll is attacked by a Fire Dragon virus. Netto’s dad catches Meiru and manages to plug-out Roll just in time so... Oh, hmm, that doesn’t look right.
Tumblr media
It would be fine if she was his daughter, but that isn’t the case so it just looks wrong. Adult men shouldn’t be holding little girls like that! O~O
Rockman then avenges Roll with another cool Aqua Sword animation.
https://66.media.tumblr.com/0ee15af9e77ae94c845bcdf6895629db/tumblr_n3ipukz8hC1rzkxhio8_250.gifv
Sometimes screen shots can’t do a scene justice.
More Spikey viruses appear and the culprit is then revealed, a new Navi named Savageman AKA Beastman.
Tumblr media
Stop holding her like that, it’s weird!
Rockman attacks him with his cool Aqua Sword move, but he only deletes the Spikey viruses around him. Then he uses his Rock Buster and starts shooting at Beastman who isn’t affected by any of them.
Tumblr media
I’m sorry? What Beastman is saying here is that to him, Rockman is just a puppet being controlled by a human, showing us that the anime is once again differing from the games, but I’ll talk about that later.
Netto hears that they only have 3 minutes left of air and decides to destroy what we learned from the first season by suddenly making him an expert on Program Advances without the help of the Aqua Custom Style, this time it’s the Z- Cannon or Zetta Cannon.
Tumblr media
I honestly like the new animation for the Program Advance, every time Netto inserts more than one chip they appear as little blocks piling under each other until the third chip comes in and pushes the first block up. This easily shows how the chip programs are compatible with one another since that is how a Program Advance is activated.
The Program Advance seems to be effective as Beastman logs out, the computer is back to normal, the room opens up again, and the day is saved... Or so we thought!
This is were the episode starts to feel a little rushed. Right after this we get another mysterious figure who clearly isn’t the Navi we saw watching Beastman’s performance just a couple of minutes ago.
Tumblr media
First episode and we already have two more bad guys introduced? And to make things worse, this second villain shoots some type of missiles from outer space that surround Scilab and traps it inside a Dimensional Area.
Tumblr media
Yeap, that’s right, the Dimensional Area Netto’s dad is still working on has somehow ended up in the wrong hands, and they made it even better! Because get this, not only does it allow viruses to materialize in the real world, but Navis as well! Cross Fusion has already become pointless! However, the show doesn’t see it that way.
The Mettool and Spikey viruses, along with Spark Bees this time, begin destroying Scilab. Since they are all inside a Dimensional Area, Netto remembers what Meijin said before and decides to go try his luck with Cross Fusion to save everybody, and runs downstairs to get a Synchro Chip.
Tumblr media
Considering that Cross Fusion is still being tested, would this be considered something brave or very stupid?
Netto encounters the Mystery Navi from before who is stealing all the Synchro Chips, and tries to Ash Ketchum his way into stopping him.
Tumblr media
Seriously, what is it with young shonen protagonists and trying to attack a powerful non human antagonist face on?
Tumblr media
After that failed attempt, Shademan calls Beastman who also materializes to destroy what remains of Scilab while he runs away with the Synchro Chips, except for two chips that he clumsily drops when grabbing them all with one hand. Netto sees the chips and decides to use them to fight Beastman, and what surprises me here is that Rockman doesn’t really object to this despite knowing that it could be dangerous, and he has always been seen as the smart one.
Obviously, Cross Fusion is a success as we get the typical anime transformation sequence, but to be honest, I’ve seen better.
Tumblr media
No, the first statement is more accurate. This is a fusion.
Tumblr media
And this one too.
Tumblr media
Two different characters that merge together to create an entirely new being that shares traits from both predecessors.
No, in fact, It is not Netto turning into Rockman, it’s just Netto in Rockman’s clothing. The only difference here is that Netto fights more aggressively than Rockman.
Tumblr media
Except for that time Rockman stabbed Stoneman in the eye, he never really maims anybody.
After this, Netto tries to use a Battle Chip but forgets that you need a PET for that, a PET that disappears somewhere after Cross Fusion. So he decides to use the Rock Buster, but since they’re in the real world, the buster gets a super boost that sends Netto flying, with the shot leaving a hole not only on the building, but on Beastman himself.
Tumblr media
So... I love seeing shots of Rockman’s muscular body, but when you give it to Netto it just doesn’t work for me because you know his body doesn’t look like that, making this feel out of nowhere.
Also, “Flipante”? I’m pretty sure these subs are from Spain because they use a lot of words that I’ve never heard before.
Since Beastman was maimed and mortally wounded, he runs away, the Dimensional area disappears an the episode ends with Netto back to normal with his PET reappearing again, him fainting, Rockman calling out to him worried that he might be dead, and an aerial shot of a partially destroyed Scilab.
Tumblr media
What do I think?
Well, if you read my previous post, “The problem with Megaman NT Warrior Axess”, you already know my main issues with this season, starting with how different it was from the first one.
Like I mentioned before, Axess never aired in Latin America so it took a while for me to realized that there was another season. I got used to watching reruns of the first season over and over again because of how much I loved it, and after I watch this episode for the first time, in English, I was very, very confused at the end. I immediately felt that something was wrong, that the show was gonna be  different and I wasn’t sure if it was gonna be a bad thing or a good thing. It turned out to be both because the writers couldn't settle on a tone for this new season, so I was ambivalent from beginning to end.
I’m just gonna mention the good things. The general animation is way better that the majority of the episodes in the first season, the new visuals give it a more cybernetic feel to it which goes perfectly with the theme of the show. Roll and Meiru do more in battle, even though Meiru is still the weak girl character that needs to be saved by a big strong man, ew. The new PET design and the infrared beams they use to send the Navis into the Cyberworld is much more futuristic than the cords from the previous season that are vulnerable to being cut, which, again, is very fitting to the theme, as well as the animations when inserting chips and activating P.As.
The idea of Viruses and Navis materializing in the real world is revolutionary, I just don’t like how it is set up.
The Advance PET was introduced in Battle Network 4, while Beastman appeared in Battle Network 3 as a World Three Navi and having an operator named Inukai. Here, however, Beastman is a solo Navi that is called a Darkloid, and instead of being man-made, Darkloids are portrayed as A.I beings that were spontaneously created from...Bug frags, I think? Yeah, that’s another thing I don’t buy from Axess.
The mystery Navi is Shademan who was introduced in Battle Network 4 and is in fact a solo Navi, but he was created by Dr. Regal, the other mystery character that appeared, but Shademan is also a Darkloid here.
Say what you want about Forte and Gospel, but their origins are purely man-made and make sense, and even if viruses and bug frags are also man-made, having something instantly created out of Virus remains doesn’t make sense unless a higher power is involved, which hasn’t really been specified in Axess.
If you are one of the few people who read my posts, I appreciate your support and are free to share your opinions too.

So... Thoughts on the new episode? :)
Nonnie, I could write an essay on this episode.  And i just might.
There I was, just “supes caszhj” as Griffin McElroy would say, watching Patton sincerely trying to be less strict, pleasantly surprised that everyone was not at each other’s throats...
C!Thomas busting in all hotheaded was a bit of a misdirect, but it let us know he was actually really upset about it, so the rest of the characters could be more measured.
Then Logan pops in, trying to be “less distracting” and failing completely because, honestly, were any of us anywhere able to read any of those speech bubbles without pausing?  Roman knew it, he couldn’t even keep up while narrating.  It was extremely distracting!
I was not quite getting the theme yet, but I could see that they kept dead-ending at each example.  It was like (and turned out to be) Patton wasn’t addressing the problems that were being presented.  I actually got pretty frustrated, because it felt like they were stuck in a loop (you can say that again).
He kept pushing the complicated problems aside for more clear cut problems, and trying to extrapolate from there.  But it never worked, the answer was never satisfying.  Because some problems just can’t be simplified.
The Trolley Problem was really the sign, for me, that things were getting out of control.  The most accepted answer (I think) is that you should pull the lever, because 5 lives are more important than 1 life, and choosing to not act is still a choice.  They never even got to that conclusion.  And that’s because solving the Trolley Problem didn’t actually matter.  What mattered was seeing the extremes to which Patton would go to put others first, because he couldn’t let go of his black and white view of the world.  His views literally (in game) knock C!Thomas out.  His views were symbolically self-defeating.
And I, a fool, foolishly thought it was wild enough when LilyPadton’s video game attack K.O.’d video game C!Thomas.  But Then!  THEN!  Deceit puts all his cards on the table.  In a throwback to the courtroom scene, he raises his right (human) hand and speaks the truth.  His name.
(Yes I thought there was something written on his hand and yes I thought he said Janice, I am only human, so sushi.)
If you recall, Janus never really swore to tell the truth back then.  He says “I know I do,” but he himself had not put a hand on a book to swear by.  (Fun side note: neither does Virgil.  He never touches the book offered and just says “whatever.”)  So, symbolically, this moment is the first time we see him make a conscious effort to be honest.
I. Died.
Or at least I would have, if Roman had not immediately pushed the scene forward again.  (seriously, could someone make a video edit where, instead of being mocked, there’s just silence, and pictures of random movie scenes where ppl are smiling and saluting?)  And while the words that followed were unanimously heartbreaking, the timing of their responses was more important to the video.
The constant pushing, rushing, struggling that all the characters were going through was so true to form for emotional turmoil.  You’re trying so hard to figure it out, but each possible solution comes up short and you just keep leaping to the next option, looking for the answers.  All these thoughts keep popping in unannounced (Logan), and your mind is a mess.
That’s not necessarily a bad approach, because without going through so many examples, they may never have reached their realization. The reason why nothing was working: It was because they were trying to fit complicated problems into simple boxes.  But you have to stop and step back eventually.  It took the shock of Roman and Janus’ exchange to make everyone realize how far off track they’d gotten, and really take a look at the whole approach instead of just the individual problems.
Patton did suddenly side with Janus, but it wasn’t out of nowhere.  Patton has known for weeks that he’s missing the mark.  Months, if you count his smaller interactions with Virgil.  Upon Janus appearing in the Megaman sequence, he continued his normal behavior of arguing against whatever Janus stated, up until he saw he had hurt C!Thomas himself.
This is the climax of the show.  Not anyone’s individual arc, but the entire series.  C!Thomas’ moral backbone, a thing which is arguably our first and most strongly instilled cultural support, was shaken.  Patton could not waste time.  He saw he had hurt C!Thomas so he immediately changed.  He saw in that moment that Janus was protecting C!Thomas, and changed how he spoke to Janus.
As shown clearly in SVS, Patton will do just about anything to get his way, including bribary.  He is not lawful in his approach to morality.  He is an “ends justify the means” type of person, just like Janus.  The difference was just in what ends they want to accomplish.  But, seeing the video game results of his means, he realizes that the ending wasn’t going to be a good one if he kept going that route.  He has now decided that in order to “win” the game, his means must change, and he aligns himself with Janus because Janus was visibly in the position of C!Thomas winning.
In conclusion!
We have the Stated Theme: It is not wrong to prioritize your mental health, even when it means putting yourself before others.
But we also have the Unstated Theme: Trying and Failing and Why that’s Okay
Every. Single. Side. In. This. Episode. Fails.
Logan fails to be either convincing, inconspicuous, or detached.  His arguments sway no one, he’s very noticeable, and he gets upset at the end.
Patton fails to be more flexible.  His strict viewpoint gives him an actual breakdown.
Roman fails to be the ‘hero’.  Although the rest might still happily give him that title, his actions did not match up to the role.  He mocks a part of C!Thomas in a moment of vulnerability, and believes they would openly, knowingly lie to him.  He does not act with faith in himself or others.
And Janus.  That sweet baby.  He fails to tell the truth.  And it’s not because he wasn’t telling the truth in this episode.  I firmly believe his nod was meant to encourage Roman and indicate that C!Thomas meant what he said.  But Janus failed to take into account the effects of his past actions.  They are suffering now for his past mistakes and, careful planner though he is, he didn’t see that coming.  You can’t just Start being honest one day and expect everyone to go along.
But it’s okay.
It’s okay because a person cannot undergo drastic, necessary change without first falling apart.  And please understand that this is all in a metaphorical sense.  A person doesn’t need to have an actual mental breakdown to change, but the structure, that is, the strict mental guidelines that we have erected for ourselves and are desparately clinging to cannot stay standing if change is to take place.
Patton, Roman, and C!Thomas experience a complete change in their worldview in this episode.  They each react to that change in their own way:
Roman is angry.  He’s mad at the time spent trying to follow a path that was eventually determined to be wrong.  He doesn’t yet see the value in the time spent.  He’s a man of action, after all.  He’s focused on the past.
Patton is sad.  He already misses the times when things were simpler.  He’s nostalgic for the past even as he tries to make things right, right now.  He’s focused on the present.
And C!Thomas?  He is all of us after the dust settles.  Tired, yet hopeful.  Resigned to face another day, another sunrise, after a much deserved break.
He’s focused on the future.

Gaming with 1 hand
Look I love Pokemon Sun/Moon and Pokemon Sword/Shield for a few reasons dear to me but yes there are MANY objective reasons to criticize them, in special SwSh being so obviously super half baked.
And yet, out of ALL the reasonable complaints we could make, a lot of people choose to criticize the “casual controls” feature? “These games are so easy and stupid you can play with 1 hand lololol” they said about these games.
Do people not realize these are important features that make games accessible to many of us? Needless to say, not all games need to be action filled in real time with ass complex controls that require a gaming keyboard for competing. And not all players have to aim for that experience, it has nothing to do with being disabled. Of course, this also ties to the whole “haha casual players and girl gamers and their Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing” thing going on in a certain sector of the gaming community but that’s another talk for another day.
Gaming has always been a really big part of my life, since I was 7 and my siblings and me got a Nintendo back in the 90′s. When I started to have problems with my arm’s tendons and muscles on top of my other health issues, I started to play Turn-based JRPGs very exclusively, and other “slow games” because I couldn’t deal with most other games anymore. The part of me that’s still a hardcore Megaman fan cries herself to sleep some days becasue of that. I replayed Megaman X Command Mission many times because, even if it’s probably the worst Megaman X game (or...maybe X7 is worse lmao) it’s the only turn-based rpg Megaman game, and therefore mostly the only Megaman I can play anymore. Many years ago, when I heard they were making a turn-tased Megaman X game, I couldn’t believe it! I was so happy! I can finally play Megaman again! And yes it was only a half-decent game but I get to play as X and Zero again shut up about Megaman games having to be terribly difficult and punishing as the first generation or therefore they are not good ugh
And yes it was a big selling point for me knowing Sun/Moon and Sword/Shield had a “casual controls” feature that yes, allows me to mostly play with my left hand and yes, this helps me enjoy my life a little more.

to Defend Desti’s Death
I’m not particularly one to make major response posts like these, but I feel these thoughts I’ve had have simmered for quite a while now and I just wanted to get this off my chest. To some that may know, I’m a fan of the Anime Arc cuz honestly, it was fun and hype to sit through. On the look back, it still is, even with the noticeable drawbacks. But I won’t deny that the moment we fans know is divisive is one for a reason. For some, it was bad and other say it was good but frankly I haven’t seen many properly explain why. Which is where I want to come in momentarily, give my two cents on why Desti’s passing worked on an objective level.
Tumblr media
Initially, and I hate doing this, but I gotta respond to the most notable saying of why it doesn’t work. So link here for the argument: https://todpolle.tumblr.com/post/185301760988/meme-gene-scene-how-to-kill-a-life. And I only wish to say, no hard feelings @todpolle. I’ll get to the main argument in a moment but I wanted to discuss the setup point where it revolves around the deaths of Avocato from Final Space and Gamma from Sonic Adventure.
Now truly, I remember these passing moments fondly but I feel that comparing them to Desti’s death is noticeably unfair if we wanna talk contextually. Like if we’re taking both series to its full context, Final Space has the disadvantage where it resurrected Avocato while SMG4 kept Desti dead; the resurrection not only undercutting the weight of the initial departure but having not as much weight as before. Much as I like Avocato, having a “No One’s Ever Really Gone” approach to Final Space kinda devalued the idea that death is permanent for Gary and his friend, if only for a moment. If Desti’s resurrected later on, I’ll eat that crow, but that is doubtful. Though, if we take season 2 out the equation, it’s fair to say both deaths have their considered impacts with who it affects especially.
Tumblr media
I’ll express that a little later, but I want to move over to Gamma’s death where, and I hate to say this, it’s an unfair comparison all around cuz Gamma’s story doesn’t have the same set pieces as Desti’s because contextually his death was understandably sacrificial, he willingly self-destruct after knowing his true identity. Heck, you can’t even stack Gamma’s with Avocato’s because his heroic death meant something far different than the other two. Nah, I say the death reminiscent to Desti’s the most is with Aeris’ of Final Fantasy VII. But, I think it’s fair to first point out what this counter purposefully omitted: Desti’s character.
Tumblr media
Now it would stand to believe the most we see of Desti aside the anime arc is “If Mario was in Splatoon 2”. But to say that is all to her character is being ignorant towards her character because the anime arc furthers expressed who Desti was as a character. She was prideful, no-nonsense, loves being a step of Meggy even when it means playing unfair. She was basically Meggy put to a logical extreme. In “Splatoon 2″, “Meggy’s Bootcamp”, and “Mario Showdown”, we see that seed of how much Meggy means to her as a rival and how focused she can be when it came to their rivalry, considering her the biggest threat in the Splatfest games. These traits are expanded in “The Splatfest Incident” where she is willing to her pride aside for a moment to help the gang find Meggy when she goes missing. The search for Meggy doesn’t throw away her hot-headedness and pride however, as we see in “The Inkling Disappearances” and “Mario and the Experiment” that she is more than willing to throw down regardless of what stands in her way, even to where she’s making her and Meggy’s escape into a challenge.
Tumblr media
More importantly, we get to see a soft side of her where she isn’t fully aloof and tries to be there for her team, or those she come to find as close as she gets. You get to see her bond with someone she wants to fight free and true to form. I say the writers did their job in giving us reason to stand with Desti, make us like her beyond being the Negachin. She’s much the better half to Meggy, the Zero of Megaman X, the being our main inkling girl strives to be in the right way. Now, I wanna talk about Aeris.
Tumblr media
Aeris was a very cool character in my eye when playing FFVII. She’s not Tifa but she still had a badass charm to her, especially in the part where she and Cloud go a rescue/date to infiltrate a brothel that held Tifa hostage by helping Cloud disguise as a woman. It slows the game down in a good way, giving us some time to know Aeris. Like Cloud, you get to feel just as attached to her, in both the story and gameplay where she is a boss when it comes to magic. She shows herself as the one that helps Cloud shed his initial machismo and is a very considerate friend while they’re on the journey to escape Midgar. She certainly has more of a character than what most of the images on Google would make you believe. I’d say like with Aeris, the anime arc subtly make you invested in Desti. And like Desti, it happens...
Tumblr media
Now I can say, yeah, this shouldn’t make sense. But really, as much sense as I wanted to wrap my brain around why this shouldn’t have happen, this emotionally got me every time. I say what makes this work, what makes Desti’s death worked, comparative to the previous mentioned, is how it worked it’s way both before and after the moment. For Aeris, you can feel the weight of her loss in our main characters in the story and in the gameplay where with her gone, it’s pretty hard to fill the void of what she excelled at. Put that with what we got to see of her which makes the loss all the more shocking. Which makes Cloud avenging her with his final conquering over Sephiroth all the more cathartic. Now I’m not saying Desti’s death had as much intentional thematic development as Aeris’s, but when you take into account how it is structurally, especially the aftermath, the oomph of it all feels just as real, feels respectfully impactful for what it did.
But before I get to my main point, I wanted to address another point against this case where “SMG4 was supposed to just be a comedy like Spongebob and such, this totally goes against that tonally.” Which, I don’t know what else to say beyond “Did we watch the same show?” I can understand not liking the 2nd half of the anime arc writing wise, but it’s not like the arc turned everything into a whole different show all together. We weren’t getting some Heavy Rain type melodrama shit, the tone of the 2nd half was clear, the objectives were there. It wasn’t that heavy-handed, it wasn’t that serious, they didn’t sacrifice the comedy all together for some oscar-bait Gotham brooding bullshit. A dumbass Monkey like myself could understand the direction the bros were going with that arc, regardless of whether I liked it or not. It is pretty myopic to think a series like this can’t and shouldn’t be anything else beyond a skinner box type comedy, because god forbid experimenting with the stories in lieu committing to a considerable routine most of your career to keep a certain mindset happy and buttfucking numb. *sigh* I apologize. To carry on...
Tumblr media
I’ve talked about this before, so if you want here’s a link about the funeral scene of the arc’s final episode (quick read), but I wanna say that with Desti’s passing, they treat it with respect. They have their couple of jokes, but they don’t treat it like a joke; Desti's death would’ve been a lot more insulting to me if they didn’t take it as seriously. It showed that yeah, that shit hurt, it was not expected, and we’re with the gang as we see Meggy and them send her off, guns out. We’re with the characters where all that happens and it felt... organic. Like I said before, Desti was “someone who appeared to be distant and feisty but still had a heart. Someone who was among people that [grew to] care about her, in life and death.” Whether we consider it was for shock or not, she made her impact, it hit hard in the end, and they made the moment matter in the respective time.
Tumblr media
And like Final Space, this affected the likes of Meggy the most, a character that had the most connection to Desti than the others, all while the others respect her grieving and trauma that came with it. Moments like “Something’s Up With Meggy” and “Mario Does the Chores” show that that stuck with her for real, and they don’t treat like some sick running gag. SMG4 mentions it not long afterward but respectably knew not to dwell on it for the rest of the year until “The Grand Festival” where it comes back as a soft, yet optimistic reminder.
Tumblr media
Now I won’t say you can’t have your issue with the arc, I have my issues with it. But to say Desti’s death was crap was to objectively ignore the effort they put into making it a solid plot point, a solid heel turn for both Desti and Meggy. To ignore that they gave us a good character to basically just feel mad that they pulled the rug from under you. And I would’ve been mad too if killing her off was done poorly, but it wasn’t. The bros didn’t make a whole masterpiece, but they did what they set out to do and I say they pulled it off well for what it was. For who Desti was.

On the one hand, we’re getting Ilia in the next banner as part of a prize showcase that’d be worth summoning on just for the extra rewards alone, but on the OTHER hand, I didn’t manage to get Gala Zena from any of the free summons, and then the worms in my brain went brrr and I think we all know what happened next :)
Also now that I’ve had time to experience the 2.0 update for a week or so, I’ve got a lot of thoughts on that to talk about too
First of all, I got absolutely no 5-stars of any kind from my free summons on the gala banner we got before the Zena banner, so that sucked, lol. I was genuinely tempted to at least go for a pity-break, but I decided against it, since that banner in general was so unappealing to me.
Then for the Zena banner I at least managed to sit back and see how the free summons went, and I got Meene and Midgard Zero off of them, which was nice. But of course that meant that I didn’t get Gala Zena, and I just couldn’t hold myself back from chasing her, lol.
Thankfully I managed to get her after an extra 70-ish summons, so I didn’t have to spend THAT much to get her, but I almost immediately got a dupe Meene from my ticket summons so that kinda hurt, lmao. I also got a dupe Andromeda [who’s now at 3UB], and I think those are the only 5-stars that I’ve gotten from these last two banners. The 5-star dragon ticket from the log-in bonus gave me a dupe Gilgamesh [who’s at 1UB now], though.
In general my summons were a bit more barren than I’d like, but I can’t really complain since most of them were free summons, and I managed to clear out the whole Zena banner, lol.
If I remember right, I had about 270 summons before this, and now I’m at around 200. We’ve still got some anniversary related wyrmite coming in the near future, though, on top of the free summons, so I might still be able to spark on the mid-month gala remix banner if I want to. But I’d probably only do that if Gala Alex is featured and I don’t get her from my free summons. She’s now the only gala unit I’m missing, so she’s a pretty high-priority spark target.
Which is also a big part of why I’m not really that interested in summoning on the Ilia banner, and by extension why I decided to go ahead and chase Zena now. I mean, that was still a dumb decision since if I ended up needing to spark her, that would have drained my entire stash, but still, lol. Ilia’s non-limited, and she seems to be the only new unit on the next banner, so if anything I’d mainly just be summoning for the extra rewards. Also I don’t really have any high-priority dream summon candidates anymore, since I got I-Nefaria and S-Mikoto a little while ago, and I got Meene from this banner, so I could just dream summon Ilia later on anyway.
But mainly I’m just kinda salty about how she’s basically a direct improvement over the new Joe alt, lol. I was hoping she’d at least be flame or wind or something, or even have a different mode type, but she’s literally just Joe but better, which is lame, since I really like Joe, and even if I got Ilia I dunno if I’d want to replace him on my light team. So that on it’s own kinda deflated a lot of the hype I had about Ilia.
Anyway, at this point my main priorities are to be able to get Gala Alex whenever she’s available again, and to hopefully get any new gala dragons when they come out. I’d also really like to go into the New Years banner with a spark saved up, just in case. Even though that’d probably require skipping Christmas. So we’ll just see how that pans out, lol.
All that aside, the 2.0 update has been out for a while now, and boy has that sure changed how the game feels, lmao. I think it’s an almost entirely good update, but there’s a lot of awkward growing pains going on as we have to adjust to all these new and changed systems.
I know that the new wyrmprint system gives us more flexbility than the old one, and that it at least gives a reason to want to use a lot of the 4-star prints, but I really hope they implement some sort of preset option soon, because having to keep setting up 4-5 wyrmprints on every single character is really awful. I’m also not a huge fan of how expensive it is to get extra copies of prints, but I get the logic behind it, and thankfully event prints are extremely cheap to get extra copies of. Which at least means that new players can pretty easily get four copies of Plunder Pals before eventually getting specialized skill damage prints, but I feel kinda bad for anyone who didn’t get all the Megaman event prints, since they cover basically every single important wyrmprint ability, lol.
Also it’s kinda awkward how the change to having every print just give one ability means that a lot of prints got indirectly nerfed, like Fires of Hate and Resounding Rendition, or Chocolatiers now just being 50% skill prep. Not to mention how so many prints are almost identical, down to the fact that even the affinity bonuses for a lot of similar prints aren’t even different either. So that’s kinda weird. But ultimately I do think this was a good change for the game. I’m also thinking now that one type of new endgame progression they might add eventually is 6-star wyrmprints, since it seems really noteworthy to me that the new wyrmprint UI is a 2x3 grid with only five slots taken up, and the other just being empty space. So they might introduce 6-star wyrmprints to fill in that extra slot later to add even more flexibility to the system.
Then there’s all the changes they made to the weapon system, which I think are gonna take a fair while for me to feel truly familiar with. There’s a whole lot to take in, and even though I think it’s more streamlined and easy to understand at the end of the day, it’s such a huge change from what i was used to that it just feels kinda overwhelming and strange. But I think the only part of it that genuinely feels bad is how it’s now WAY more expensive to fully unbind Agito weapons than it was before, since you have to now buy all of the last four unbind levels, like with HDT weapons, instead of it just being a one-time upgrade cost that gives you an automatically MUB tier 2 weapon if you had a MUB tier 1 weapon. So that really sucks, and I think it really screws over anyone who was holding off on upgrading their flame and shadow Agito weapons until this update hit, since now it’s extremely expensive compared to before. But apparently it’s an intentional design choice and not just an oversight, so I guess we’ll just have to deal with it. I'm also kinda annoyed at myself for dismantling all my 5t3s before this update hit, since now they’re actually worth getting for the weapon bonus system, but that’s not as big of a deal.
And on that note, I know lots of people don’t like how expensive the weapon bonus system is, but I’m just viewing it as a super long-term, end-game grind that intentionally gives relatively minor stat upgrades that nothing in the game is actually balanced around. It’s basically just an extension of the weapon dojo system for people who want to have something to keep grinding for once they hit the end-game.
I do really like how they condensed all the niche void weapons into just one weapon per element/type combo, though, and how their unique weapon abilities are now passively applied to all similar weapons once you unlock them. It gives you a reason to care about getting them, and grinding void battles in general, without forcing you to use super weak weapons if you need their unique ability. I dunno how much I’ll actually grind Void Agni after this, but it feels really nice to just have the scorching air res ability on my Agito/HDT weapons, lol. It’s also really nice that they let you do the same thing with the HDT Bane abilities, since that makes it way easier to grind them, and this update gives us a whole lot of reasons to want to get back into grinding HDTs again.
HDTs are just way easier now than they used to be, which is great. I think Cygames has accepted that they just weren’t very fun or well-designed as endgame co-op raid type content, and that people just want to be able to farm them solo for their drops. And this whole update makes it way easier to do that. On top of the earlier change to nerfing their opening blasts and reducing the damage that AI characters take, it feels like they only slightly raised their stats to compensate for the huge balance patch update, which makes them feel way easier to beat than they used to be. And they also reworked the fights a bit so that they actually have purple indicators for [most] of their attacks, and some mechanics like HBH’s volcanoes now actually work properly in solo, so that’s neat.
The introduction of solo versions of endgame fights is really nice. I think at this point it means that you can go through the entire game’s progression system without touching co-op [outside of events, I guess], which is nice, since I know it’s always been off-putting to a lot of people that co-op is basically mandatory for endgame content.
We also now have PVP [kind of], which is something I never expected, and I ALSO never expected that it’d actually be . . . really fun and well-balanced? It’s genuinely shocking to me that they actually managed to pull off PVP properly in this type of game, lol. This has always felt like the most anti-PVP gacha game out there, if that makes sense, so I never thought PVP would work, but the whole battle royale set-up actually works really well. Mainly because everyone works off of the same blank slate, and your account progress outside of the battle royale mode has absolutely no impact on how strong you are in PVP. It’s more of a skill-based thing, where you’d have an edge over newer players just because you’re more familiar with how to move around in the game and do stuff. There’s also the fact that there’s barely any difference in the points you get between first and last place, so you don’t feel like you’re missing out on much if you keep losing. And most of the stuff you spend points on are just cosmetic skins for the character you play as, but there’s also some genuinely good rewards like sunstones and testaments that you can fairly easily get even if you just grind for it by dying as fast as possible every round. I really hope they keep the rewards the same for each season, since having a fairly consistent supply of 2 sunstones and 4 of each testament every five weeks or so would be really good.
The whole balance patch also happened, and that ended up being a lot more of a big deal than I thought it might be. Even though they only tweaked everyone’s damage mods and not any of their abilities or anything, basically all of the buffs feel like what you’d expect from a mana spiral. A pretty huge amount of characters got their damage mods doubled or even tripled, and then there’s cases like Gala Euden who effectively had both of his skill’s damage mods quadrupled, lol. I was wondering if they might use this as a chance to effectively give mana spirals to old gala units without actually giving them mana spirals, and that’s basically how this went. On top of Gala Euden now being even stronger than before, Gala Mym got basically all of her damage mods doubled, along with a new strength buff on her S1. Gala Sarisse also got her S2 improved so that it always gives a team strength buff instead of alternating effects. And Gala Ranzal got what seems to be a really big improvement to his damage in general, along with his gauges now being easier to fill, so now I think he might at least be on the same level as Leif, if not stronger, which he really deserved.
They even buffed a lot of the weaker shadow units, which I wasn’t expecting, but I’m glad about it. Obviously Norwin was one of the first units whose changes I looked into, and I’m glad that he’s better than he used to be, but it’s kinda awkward to me that he has poison punisher effects on his skills now, when they didn’t change the fact that he has a blind punisher ability, and another ability based around inflicting blind. I think he still needs a proper spiral to fully morph him into actually being about poison, but he’s a lot better than he was before. They also buffed S-Norwin’s S2 for some reason, even though he was really good before this update, lol.
Vice also now has the honor of being the first unit to get straight up nerfed in the game’s history, but even with the nerf, I think he’s still one of the strongest 3-stars in the whole game, and he’s still worth investing in as a low-budget DPS option. I also actually like the fact that he inflicts poison on his S1 now, since it makes him a more consistent source of poison, but it also means he’ll be constantly afflicting poison, which might not always be good. I think it’s a good balance change, though. At the very least I’m able to easily solo eHJP in like one and a half minutes while still using him as my main DPS unit, while also having everyone equipped with gold fafnirs. So he definitely still does his job just fine.
Anyway, we’ve also got the whole second anniversary event going on, and it sure is a doozy. I think I liked Fractured Futures more, but this is still a good event in it’s own way. It’s not as intense or depressing, but I like the focus on lore and world-building, and it’s also just really refreshing to get an entire event where Zethia’s the protagonist for once.
A lot of what the event’s gone over has felt sort of predictable, but it’s still nice to get all this stuff explicitly spelled out, and it also means we get to see Ilia as a socially inept punk biker with a giant rifle, so that alone makes the entire event worth it, lmao. I figured we were gonna get something like this from all the increasing glimpses at how ancient civilization used to be technologically advanced, but seeing it play out like this is still really fun.
It’s also interesting to get the origin story for Morsayati. It’s not quite as interesting as I would have hoped, since it turns out that the Other is just Mordecai’s disembodied hatred, but still. Mordecai’s a surprisingly adorable character, and for a free unit he also feels surprisingly strong, which is nice. Although it does suck that he just straight up outclasses Hanabusa, lol.
One of the more surprising things about this event is that we’re also getting new world-building about the fairy kingdom, which seems to be setting up for how they teased at the main story moving over there soon. It’s pretty clear that sometime after chapter 18 they’re going to release Notte as a playable character [either as a welfare unit or as a gala unit], and I think Meene is kinda like the template for how they’ll handle Notte as a playable character.
We also now know that we’re getting a free character from chapter 16, and like most people I think it’s probably going to be Leonidas as a flame gun unit going by the preview from the digest, but it’s possible that he’ll be the next gala adventurer instead. I also think they might do something with Chelle soon, since I think they teased her showing up in chapter 17, and we also know that she’s apparently the one who introduced manacasters to the world.
The latest This Month post also talked about how we’re getting a new Halloween event for the middle of the month, which is kinda surprising. I think we’re still getting a Halloween event at the end of the month, so I wonder how this upcoming one will go. My current guess is that, since they didn’t say anything about the banner that’ll be run along with it, they’ll just be rerunning the old Halloween banner for it, and the event itself will just be based around the second year Halloween units, since they didn’t get their own event last year. At least that way we’d get two new Halloween events without having to deal with the stress of getting two differently entirely new Halloween banners in one month. I’m also hoping that they make the old Halloween units non-limited like they did with the Valentines ones.
They’re also apparently going another rerun of Accursed Archives [plus the Akasha event], which is kinda surprising, since I thought they’d just add it to the compendium. But at least this means we’ll get an extra set of rewards once they add it to the compendium later, lol.
We didn’t hear anything about a new Halloween event/banner at the end of the month, but we’re probably getting one, and unless Gala Alex gets featured before it, that’ll probably be what I save my next spark for. I’m not sure exactly how they’ll work it now, but I’m hoping that they’ll bundle the new Halloween units into a gala banner that also introduces a new gala dragon, since that’s also something I want to get, so it’d be nice to knock out two birds with one stone.

Interests in Game Design
From arcade games to console games, I had an interest in games, particularly how the characters looked and having a good time playing the games. I remember playing Sonic the Hedgehog and Megaman on my little brother’s game cube whenever I got the time back in elementary school. From there, I had only played website games such as gaiaonline, Bomb It, and Neopets. For a long time, I did not play any other games until senior year of high school. Friends who play games usually suggest their own group circle of friends the game they are playing. My friend did that and recommended that I play the famous MOBA (Multiplayer online battle arena) video game and I enjoyed it. However, I did not take interest in game design until I discovered that it is a possible learning skill until four years ago.
Back in high school, my physics teacher also decided to teach the basics of Python and C since there are physics-related given assignments. While learning how to code, the class worked on Arduinos, which are digital devices where if you change the code, the devices can do different activities. First, the devices are assigned the roles given from the computer. Then, the devices can turn, rotate or move depending on what the device is capable of doing. Also, LED lights were being experimented with the Arduinos, so the assignments were not only interesting, but educational.
Design skills where I am more familiar with are Photoshop and Illustrator. I did not learn these skills until I got admitted to the Fashion Institute of Technology. Most of the time, I enjoy painting in Photoshop characters and the assignments related to concept art given by the school. As Illustrator is a vector based program, I tend to find making art with it harder since it has to do with straight or curved line segments being connected. Painting backgrounds in Photoshop was new to me however, but I enjoyed the process and how the artwork turned out.
In addition, I try to expand my horizon in learning more design skills such as ZBrush and 3DS Max. I thought that learning those skills would be helpful in creating 3D character designs in the future even when the models I try making in class are not well rendered yet. While learning about the interface in ZBrush, such as knowing what brushes to use, palettes, and the shelfs where the shortcuts and controls are. The first time that I made a hand in ZBrush was difficult as I never had experience sculpting anything before, but I did make a decent looking hand. Moving on to 3DS Max, using this program was also a difficulty for me like any other new software programs. Making 3D models with shapes had been hard at first, especially when trying to know the keyboard shortcuts and navigating the interface. Some 3D models I did were a background with a snowman, pumpkin, chair, and a cat mask. Currently, I am learning Adobe After Effects, which seems more engaging as I can see a small clip of what I am animating.

MY SUPER SMASH BROS STORY
I first played super smash bros in 08, when brawl was new. It belonged to my mom's ex's nephew's friend, me my brother my mom's ex's nephew and his brother all played for countless hrs (funny with the 4 of us it really was super smash BROTHERS). Now I first played smash before I new what smash was so it was really just a fighting game with a bunch of familiar faces to it. My mane was Mr game & watch I only played him because he was visually the most impressive character (being flat and all), my brother played snake because he was a solder the nephew would play sonic and his brother would play rob cuz he looked like wall e.
Unfortenently this fun would not last for I had forgotten all about it in the 3 yrs it was absent from my life. 3 yrs later in the last month of of middle school I did not rediscover smash but it was first introduced to me. It was super smash bros 64 I fell in love instantly with its bizzar game play and mechanics, but most importantly with the characters and settings. The first character I played was jigglypuff because no one else played her and she was the only unlocked character. The connection with jigglypuff and I was strong and would be indefinite because she was so quirky and fun, I enjoyed being a nuance to my friends while having my ass handed to me. Note ssb64 is when I first met my partner so you could say smash is a love story. After a while I new I had to own this game so I asked my mom for super smash bros, yep those were my words, I never specified I wanted ssb64. On my next birth bay I received a videogame as my gift it was super smash bros brawl (in my opinion the most ambitious game in the series). As I played through with my brother we shuffled through an onslaut of options like music choices and modes like saving photos and replays it was amazing, and don't get me started with subspace emissary. The story mode was almost to much fun being so dramatic and hilarious, it really was something to behold. In super smash bros brawl there were a few more characters I found I had a great fondness for. They were Zelda & sheik, falco, marth, and the ice climbers whom I would not learn were from the previous instalment for some time and the newcomers were zero suit samus, Lucas, pit, toon link, and rob. It was also brawl that introduced me to my favorite video game franchises, like metroid, star fox, zelda, and f zero. When we first returned to the fighter select screen a memory from the past suddenly changed the way I looked at this game series. My life was suddenly just like the entangled crossover mess that was the game, it was like meeting an old friernd who had always been there, and it was then I decided super smash bros was the greatest video gaming experience of my life. Not long after completing brawl I discovered super smash bros melee instantly I new I had to own it, so I bought a copy and a GameCube cuz I didnt own one. It took me a stupid long time to unlock every character and stage (melee stages explained). I was surprised to learn that some characters in melee didn't make it to brawl, only one of wich I really fall in love with. Roy was one of many characters that were sadly cut from the next instalment. And I mean clones they were everywhere in melee and all but absent from from brawl. As for other characters I grew especially fond of the ice climbers and their gimmicky play style. Unfortunately super smash bros melee modes were a bit lackluster compared to brawl. Say for adventure mode wich was surprisingly deep, it really made you feel as if you were traversing through the games the characters belong to, unlike subspace emissary. But where I believe super smash bros melee really shines is in its game play and mechanics. It feels like a movie hopping around with explosions and lightning fast movements and it's technical input options that make the competitive scene so alluring (I'm a casual player BTW), unlike brawl wich is slow and sloppy and ssb64 wich in my opinion is worse. All things considered it is perhaps the most well put together game in the series.
Some time later super smash bros for Wii u and 3ds was announced, I was shocked, I believed ssbb was to be the last game in the series. I couldn't believe it, smash for handheld and home it was unreal. The first installment in the series I could truly enjoy the hype for, it was fun aside from being a skeptic of all the leaks that would later turn out to be true. First I shall say I accurately predicted paluteana would be a playable character, second the biggest surprise was definently pac-man (didn't think he'd  be possible), and third I was crushed to learn ice climbers would not make the cut because of the 3ds and I'd resent it for that reason. Not only that but I new the 3ds version would be inferior so I waited for the Wii u version. I stood out side the game store late at midnight to get my copy early. And I played for hrs, my favorite addition to the game had to be 8 player smash I allways wanted more action. I must say the roster of this game is one of if not the strangest with the cutting of semi clones like wolf and Lucas and the return of clones, specifically Dr Mario, of all the melee characters you'd choose to bring back why him over mewtwo, and the inclusion of dlc later. Nonetheless I did receive a few new characters to enjoy in paluteana, villager, the mii fighters, and corrin. Speaking of dlc I was not surprised by the announcement of mewtwo as dlc and I am glad both Roy and Lucas returned and Ryu I new you couldn't represent capcom with just megaman. The other game modes in Wii u and 3ds were interesting to say the least, target blast was fun but I still prefer target smash, master and crazy orders were amazing but hard, smash run was certainly the best thing about the 3ds version oh yah I did get a copy and a 3ds because I didn't have one. Oh and people, smash board isn't comparable to subspace emissary or world of light so, stop comparing them. The inclusion of amiibos really can make the game interesting but ultimately (pun intended) aren't very fun, however that won't stop me from buying all the amiibos I want. Now taking all this into account super smash bros for Wii u and 3ds allthough is flawed is also endlessly entertaining.
Then one day my partner came up to me and said, MERDY (thats my name) there's a new super smash bros game coming out. We watch the teaser and the thoughts just start rolling in, what characters will there be, what stages, what items, what modes, I was ready for all the answers but I would have to wait. I can say before the big "everyone is here" reveal I knew the ice climbers would return I also new there was no way they'd pass up another chance to add a story mode. World of light and spirits for that matter are probably the best thing to happen to smash, it's so complex and in depth it's creative and bewildering, it may not be as enveloped in worlds as adventure mode and we may not be able to enjoy the creative level design Masahiro Sakurai brought to subspace, however world of light has one thing the other two don't, customisation and the choice to play how you want, it's not as linear as adventure mode or subspace, and your fights aren't chosen for you. As for other game modes, I should first say 2 great new additions are video editing and vr mode, anyway you might as well go back and play some of the earlier installments in the franchise because ultimate leaves a little to be desired. Say for smash mode wich has lots of fun and well we can't talk about smash mode or super smash bros ultimate as a hole without mentioning it's shining star. The characters in super smash bros ultimate really make the game, I always dreamt that all the character from past installments would be in one game together. Of course I still had my predictions and surprises, first I accurately foresaw chrom, Simon, king k rool, technically hero (I really predicted erdrick only), and banjo & kazooie. Second I did not suspect, daisy, dark samus, and incineroar, although it was not a surprise ridley's presents in the game is highly appreciated for I am a huge metroid fan, BTW inkling was a no brainer. And I should mention the only new character I really enjoy playing is king k rool. Before the last section I wanna reminisce the things I'll miss about super smash bros. I'll really miss board the platforms, race to the finnish, 3d models of the characters and stages on select screens, event matches, coin launcher, boss battles, master and crazy orders, trophy rush, trophies, smash run, and good online gameplay... oh wait that was never a thing. I must state I'm sorry this story kind of turned into a critique, but super smash is first and foremost an experience and looking back now my life has be influenced by it, learning to grow strong and live big, and I can tell you super smash bros still is both a brotherly and love story for I still play with my brother and partner frequently. As for the future I can't say, ssbu is still growing and I personally believe it'll be Sakurai's last game in the franchise and video games are starting dwidle out of my life. Nonetheless it will be an unforgettable experience and I plan to continue to share it with all the world as it should be, being the largest crossover event in the history of entertainment, how can you even avoid it.
Waluigi for smash!!

alright bro im gonna do all the ask so. U Know You're Doin Em Too
Hot read more since there’s so maaaaaany
1. if you were to have Hanahaki disease, what flowers would you cough up?
I feel like this is entirely based on who i’m feeling the one sided love for? (I googled  Hanahaki disease and i’m all about that shit no doubt there)  But like, maybe daffodils?
2. if someone were to catch Hanahaki disease for you, what flowers would they cough up?
Uh Roses motherfucker, you’re welcome
3. if you were any historic trope, what would you be? (i.e., the knight, the town baker, the witch of the forest, etd.)
Ok so like on the one hand I love lances, so fucking much, so I’m like big into Knights for that and like protecting people (and/or a beautiful prince cause like, you know), but I also really love the idea of just being like, a traveling fighter of some kind, leading a troupe of loveable idiots or being in a troupe as a loveable idiot.  I want to be Iron Bull is what I’m trying to say I guess????? or like, Krem? who knows
4. tell us about your ideal battle outfit.
Ok so I’m torn again.  Cause protection and ease of movement are super important, so like a breastplate and some kind of back protection, maybe a shield?  or maybe a sick gauntlet arm like Ike from Fire Emblem cause he knows what’s up, and then some minor leg armor to keep the front of my thighs and calves safe and like a shield since those fuck am I right??  On the other hand: If you look like a Thot, the enemy is distracted and an easy target.  I’m talking chainmail crop top, plate armor booty shorts, stupid looking heel shoes(?) for maximum thot energy, and of course a whip, either that i use or just have for the thot energy.
5. what would you be a god/goddess of and what would people sacrifice to you?
I think like, a minor deity that helps people make small to mediumish choices (i.e. talk the left or right path, call or don’t call this person), and then like, a cute little charm that people just kinda crush or burn before asking about the choice feels good, feels organic.
6. name five iconic quotes that make you feel things.
Now, I don’t know a lot of quote to be honest, but here’s some paraphrased stuff:
“Now that larping exists dnd is like, not the least cool thing to do”- Travis McElroy
“Yeah I have a pickle allergy, what about it *Pickle eating sounds*” -Me, often
“I fucked your dad” -Me during a quiplash game?  And often yeah I’ll admit this
I don’t remember what’s said, but the scene in the Count of Monte Cristo where he just shows off all his sick skills to be like “Yeah I’ll murder the fuck out of your homeboy if he tries to step up to me”.
“All Magicians are inherently inclined to kill” -That unraveled about Megaman robots who get sentience
7. scythe, battle axe, broad sword, spear or trident?
Ok so like, Scythe for formal occasions/when I want to just look good cause I think their a sexy as hell weapon, at me if you want to be I know I’m right.  Battle Axes are cool and like, really useful during a siege since you can easily bust stuff down with it and it lets you cut spears in half so you look dope as hell, like, Hector of Ostia if you’re out there, yes you’re correct.   Broad Swords are like, just in general really good, you can use it in a duel, a battle, a coronation, magic rituals if you’re really feeling fancy, the list is just endless, a real classic all purpose weapon.  Spears are for fucking losers, fuck you if you use a spear sword fight me like a fucking real fighter or get out of here none of this reach bullshit.  Tridents are like spears but just, inherently sexier?  You know?  Like 1 point is stupid and boring, but 3?  that’s some good shit.  But really fuck all these weapons whips are lances are where it’s at yes feel free to at me again.
8. what combination of natural scents would you use as perfume?
Now this i have like, actually no idea for, but like, just tons of flowers.  I just take like a fistful of flowers and rub them on my face.
9. ancient scrolls or leather-bound books?
Oh you know I’m about that leather-bound book life!  Fuck A scroll, that is just a piece of paper that is going to tear and be illegible in like 5 years.  A nice bound book though?  *Chefs kiss*
10. describe yourself as if you were a storm.
A summer rain.  It comes in quickly and is gone by the turn of the hour.  A brief respite during the dry season, and gone before it can become a disaster.
11. what type of flower (other than a rose) would you offer someone you were trying to court?
First of all op, get the fuck off my back Roses or nothing.  Secondly a big sunflower.
12. honey in milk or cinnamon in tea?
Um, neither??????????????????
13. cabin in the woods, apartment in the city or mansion in the suburbs?
Honestly an apartment in the city would be nice but like, living in the woods is the prime chance to be a local mystery.
14. curtains of beads or lace?
Probably lace?  Do beads block light?
15. vocal or instrumental music?
I am a big fan of instrumental
16. describe your ideal fantasy outfit
Step one, big cape, it doesn’t touch the ground while on my shoulders but goes about mid calf.  Step two, leather armor, it’s light and easy to move in, and provides good protection.  Step three, Mask, nothing like flashy, just a plain black mask, preferably a full mask if i’ve got some magic to see with not my eyes, other wise like a typical masquerade mask
17. of all the fantasy races to ever exist, which one would you be?
Fuck.  This is so hard.  I want to be, so many.  No you know what, fuck it.  I wanna be a Dragonborn Tiefling hybrid, I’m talking cool horns, I’m talking sweet tail, you already know I can spit literal fire out of my face.  Fucking try and get at me I dare you.
18. hard candy, fruit preserves or spice cake?
I love hard candy to just suck on, but my teeth do not.
19. show us an a picture of your ideal crown.
if you don’t think this crown fucks, get out of my face
Tumblr media
20. tying your hair up using ribbon, yay or nay?
I’ve had my hair long enough for that like once, and I don’t really like tying my hair up tbh
21. an evening in the forest with elves, a night in the caves with vampires or a morning in the garden with fae?
Um.  Bold of you to say I’m not hitting up all these parties???  Like def vampires first since the elven party is advertised to go for like 5 hours, but we all know it goes on for like 4 months and I can’t party that long as a mortal you know.  And like you hit the fae up last since you literally are gonna be stuck there the rest of your life after one (1) round of truth or dare
22. tell us, in detail, about a curse a witch would put on you.
Like, in all honesty the biggest thing a witch could do to me via curse would just be to make my right arm like full unusable.  Not gone or broken.  Just like, it’s slow, I can’t always get it to fully hold onto something so it drops everything, there’s always a small feeling of discomfort, not pain just a minor annoyance, in the knuckles of the hand.
23. talking with sylphs or singing with nymphs?
I get kicked out of the nymph singing area after four seconds of
24. mint, rosemary, basil or sage?
I fucking go wild for the smell of basil don’t even try me
25. favorite childhood story? (doesn’t have to be a fairy tale)
I remembered Inkheart recently and like, I honestly really liked that book
26. tell us about an experience you’ve had that seemed unreal or supernatural. (doesn’t have to be scary)
Sophomore year of college, I realized that all the people around me were people I actually enjoyed spending time with, and it just felt so weird to be there after all the just nonsense that had happened up till then
27. would you rather have poison or healing ointment in your traveling pack?
healing duh?  You think I’d ever remember i have the poison one? nope not me!
28. tell us three sayings that you live by.
Try and be a little nicer, unless they really don’t deserve it.  Walk away sometimes.  Eat food and don’t think about it.
29. vials or mason jars?
Oh get me those vials baby!
30. describe your ideal masquerade ball outfit (mask included).
OH HELL YES.  Get me that suit, it’s a sweet dark red with rose colored vest underneath, the jacket and pants have flower vines on them that 100% connect to a big ass rose on the back of the jacket.  The mask is more or less this guy:
Tumblr media
31. splashing around in a river with mermaids or flying through the sky with harpies?
I can literally swim any day so let’s fly
32. what would you end up in the dungeon for?
Ok i didn’t understand this one at first so I’m keeping my initial reply below and the real one is: You know I beat some like high ranking knight or minor noble in a duel to humiliate them and no i didn’t think it through so here i am lol.
3 things: A talking magic weapon (Probably a sword but i’m down for other options).  A certain someone is going in and I’m not letting him go in without someone to keep him safe.  There’s dragon eggs that work like the Eragon dragon eggs and I am already waist deep in dead enemies getting one of those babies.
33. if you were a fairy, what color would your wings be?
Take a wild fucking guess
34. if you could have any magical item, what would it be?
God this is so hard, but I think a magic flower that when you pluck one if its petals you can undo a recent event, up to like ten minutes or so.
35. what song would the bards sing about you when you passed by?
I’ll say the Death of Me by Meg Myers
36. would you rather be a pirate or a king/queen?
God that’s hard,  Like yeah pirates are cool but i’d love to be royalty and just get to do good shit for the people and also not have scurvy.
37. would you spend more time in the field of flowers, the tavern, the docks or the marketplace?
Hmmm, I think the Tavern as like the number 1, and then a tie for docks and field, and the marketplace in last since i hate crowded areas i need to buy things in
38. would you have a painting of yourself?
Only if I ever ride a dragon and then have a painting to immortalize the moment, and only if the dragon helps me paint it
39. what skill are you famous for?
I mean, people know I sword fight, fight fight, and program, so like, those?  and I guess my sick dnd skills
40. if you could live any fairy tale, which one would you?
Fuck if I can think of one!
41. stained glass windows or fairy lights?
Ok Stained glass windows literally slap so like, you already know

The Gamecube review
So, it has been 18 years since the Gamecube was released and now, with my newfound free time, I can finally review what I’ve experienced from its gaming library. First, I’d like to say that this review is only my opinion, although it might be a bit controversial since I have my own issues with it. Second, I’ll divide the games in some categories for this review.
Tumblr media
Platformers
Gamecube had an abundance of platformers, with most of them being in 3D. It’s a bit like the N64 era, but with even less 2.5 D platformers (aside from Megaman, Viewtiful Joe, or Alien Hominid). I ended up liking most 2.5 D platformers on the console and Donkey Kong:Jungle Beat remains an amazing game, despite being very easy. Due to this oversaturation, most of them tried very hard to stand out by mixing up gameplay mechanics with something “cool” (guns, cars, etc.) to appeal to kids and I ended up not liking those too much, such as Ty, Shadow The Hedgehog, Vexx, etc. Meanwhile, the other games that stayed true to themselves became classics always considered by fans, such as Billy Hatcher & The Giant Egg, Pac-Man World 2, Super Mario Sunshine even though I don’t like that game at all, etc. While I wasn’t really a fan of the direction platformers were taking during that era, which heavily affected their quality, there are still a few diamonds in the rough.
Tumblr media
Adventure/Role-Playing Games
The Gamecube had plenty of adventure games and, despite open-world games becoming more and more of a thing, the Gamecube had very few open-world games. Only The Incredible Hulk:Total Destruction, True Crime, or even GUN were open-world on the consoles. So, more traditional adventure games were put on the console. I really loved The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker for what it was, despite a few problems it had. Starfox Adventures was also decent, but far from great. The Legend Of Zelda:Twilight Princess tried too hard to please its “hardcore gamerz” fanbase and to look cool, so I still found the experience slightly dissapointing. At least some gameplay mechanics. The Resident Evil games were also the only source of adventure-horror games on the console aside from Eternal Darkness, which I think is a really great horror game with lots of interesting ideas. Role-Playing games on the console were also fairly scarce, especially compared to the Playstation 2. They were fine, though. Paper Mario:The Thousand-Year Door was pretty good, although a bit overrated due to some characters’ halted development and some gameplay mechanics I am not a fan of. The Baten Kaitos games look like they could have been on PS2 in terms of quality, and are really good games. I thought the Pokémon games on the Gamecube (XD, Colosseum) were really nothing special both in terms of story and gameplay compared to other RPGs despite trying to appeal to an older audience. Tales Of Symphonia was great and could compete with PS2 RPGs. So yeah, I liked the Aventure games/RPGs of the Gamecube, but most weren’t that extraordinary.
Tumblr media
Shooters
As far as shooters go, there is a big variety of them. Even including a few 2D shoot-em-ups, although only Ikaruga is really fondly remembered. The vast amount of First-Person Shooters on the console wasn’t really that surprising and rarely did any of them try to stand out. Two titles that stood out to me were Metroid Prime 1 and 2. Rather than just focusing on killing the bad guys, there was a vast amount of effort put into exploration and, while the sight of a 3D Metroid game doesn’t instantly make me happy, that’s something I can honestly get behind. I’m glad Retro Studios took their time to create a deeper universe for Metroid. They were a few other shooters, such as Metal Arms:Glitch in the System, but I don’t think that many of them stood out on the Gamecube aside from Killer 7 and P.N. 03, but that game isn’t the best due to its unusual controls. Star Fox: Assault might not have been the best game in the series, but it was still somewhat alright to play and kept the arcade-like spirit of the franchise. Oh, and there’s also Geist, a Nintendo-made First-Person Shooter. Too bad it had a great idea that was better executed elsewhere.
Tumblr media
Fighting games
Unlike the N64, the Gamecube got quite a few good fighting games. Sure, most of them are licensed games, but most of them were really fun. Even better is that Mortal Kombat appeared on the console in 2004. Super Smash Bros. Melee might be rushed, but it still works really well. Custom Robo can also be considered a fighting game, but it has an interesting story mode that’s somewhat darker compared to the happy-go-lucky Nintendo 64 games and can feel like an RPG due to its structure. The 90’s atmosphere is what sold me to this game. As for the licensed titles, anime games based on Naruto or Zatch Bell were fine, but they also weren’t the best fighting games in existence due to a copious amount of problems. This era saw the birth of a bunch of Power Stone clones for some reason (One Piece:Grand Battle, The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy, etc.), which was a good thing, in my opinion. The only bad thing about it is that Capcom still won’t make Power Stone 3 despite their formula being so successful other companies ripped them off.
Tumblr media
Other
Despite the Gamecube not having a realistic car simulator, it had a good amount of realistic-looking racing games. Too bad I honestly do not care about any of them. F-Zero GX is a fun but somewhat frustrating futuristic racing game. Just be prepared for the mind-crushing difficulty and you’ll have a good time. Mario Kart:Double Dash!! Has some great ideas that kept me hooked for a while, but I’d rather play Mario Kart 8. Kirby Air Ride is probably my favorite racing game on the system: it uses a single button and the joystick to deliver a rather unique experience. I would definitely recommend it. Animal Crossing, on the other hand, is either something you love or just don’t care. I personally think the Animal Crossing novelty wears off after a few weeks, but I still somewhat “like” it. My favorite game on the console has to be Chibi-Robo: a cleaning/simulation/platforming game where you control a small robot that has to clean the Sanderson’s house. It’s weird, charming, and has a unique story that surprisingly ends up being very dark. Luigi’s Mansion was also somewhat dark, yet ended up really being charming and interesting thanks to its nice atmosphere and neat gameplay. As for rhythm games, we only got a few of them, including Dance Dance Revolution:Mario Mix, which only has some neat remixes. Nothing else about it is really worth the price. Speaking of Mario spin-offs, I really didn’t like some of the ones on the Gamecube. Super Mario Strikers has a single unlockable team, Mario Superstar baseball’s mechanics rarely work and the AI might take advantage of that during the single-player mode, Mario Power Tennis’s gimmicks didn’t entertain me enough to prefer the game over the N64 one, Mario Party 4’s mushroom mechanics were somewhat predictable, and Mario Party 7’s mic-enhanced minigames and overall board designs just bored me. That was the time when I stopped caring about Mario spin-offs.
Tumblr media
Overall, I liked the Gamecube’s gaming library, although I didn’t like many aspects of it and had a much better time with the PS2 or even the Dreamcast. I think the Gamecube MIGHT be a bit overrated due to a good amount mainstream gamers growing up with it using their pink nostalgia glasses in order to complain that THEIR era was better than the current era, just like a good amount of previous Nintendo fans complaining on forums about how THEIR era was better back in 2001-2006. It’s an eternal cycle.

2) Who was your first muse?
(I will not count Tumblr on this question since I haven't been here for more then maybe a month or less. all twitter since there where my entire RP shtick started!)
my first ever muse was Amy.EXE or Rosy from Nightmare beginning/eye of three. all back in 2020! I mainly started it as a little parody just to join the parade once more but, I really found myself not being that “haha funni person” for standers and I already had ugly passtime on twitter’s parody community so, I flipped to an rp acc! soon followed up my megaman muses and some .. .fnf.
6) OTP for your muse?
Man, do I have a big rant regarding this question hhh,, that’s hands down to BlastComet and EleComet
The First One .. is essentially my comfort ship in a way, I /ADORE/ these two soo much, they have pretty much potential chaotic dumbasses energy but, with the twist of both of them being into eachother in a way but, they kinda find hard time to exactly word it out, it’s like a new experience to them in a way and with more build-up, that experience declares for both of them.. not to mention. HENDGEMENT, THEY HAVE SPIKY HENDGEMENT HELMETS, THEY’RE BOTH COCKY and they’re both chaotic but, knows their limits.
the second one is actually a ship that me and a friend of mine just did it out of pure fun back on twitter! since he wanted to experience shipping again and it eventually grew on both of us. I /LOVE/ this ship! the dynamic of the arrogant teaser and the the other arrogant that always tries to be the top but, eventually breaks off from the constent teasing, it’s really adorable.
19) Do you listen to music whilst writing? If so, what kind of music?
From Time to Time yeah! as for kind? 60% of the time, it's Rock. the other 40 is just some video games sound track.

Peacekeepers II: Rise of Smithy Chapter 2
Chapter 2: 2 geniuses are better than one
(Disclaimer! I own nothing of Nintendo, SVTFOE, Steven Universe, Xenoblade X or Street Fighter!)
I was taking a look at the scepter back at the lab. “It kind of amazes me how Wiley would use this to create weapons and soldiers,” I said, “But it feels good to finally have it.” “S.M.A.S.H has been after this thing since that big battle with Comet,” said Colleen, “Now we finally have it.” “Once we find out what its been used for aside from the weapons, I can return it to Comet,” said Star. “What surprises me is how he was even able to use it to enhance humans,” said Colleen. “Luna and I can run a diagnostic on it all before it goes back to Mewni,” I said. “Hopefully this puts an end to the Slipknot and C.H.A.O.S,” said Colleen. Luna walked in the room.
“The lab’s ready,” she said. “What’s the word on Wiley?” asked Colleen. “He’s in jail as we speak,” said Luna. “The two enhanced?” I asked. “Asia and Jet Ibanez, two twins orphaned after the assault from C.H.A.O.S 7 years ago,” said Luna, “The boy can conduct lightning and move at incredibly fast speeds, while the girl can use neon and also mind manipulation.” “So one is fast while the other is weird,” I said. “Exactly,” said Luna, “Based on the intel Dad gave us, they volunteered for the experiment made by Dr. Wiley in order to avenge the friends and family they’ve lost in Shanghai.”
“Looks like he managed to get his hands on the formula that made me into the soldier I am today,” said Colleen, “We should be prepared.” “But we’re not at war,” I said. “Not yet,” said Colleen, “But I fear we soon will be.” Luna was looking at the scepter. “Incredible,” said Luna. I looked back to her. “What’s going on?” I asked. “I just touched this scepter and some labranyum was near it,” said Luna, “It forged the labranyum into something I had in my mind.” I looked at it and was mind blown. “We’ve gotta show Asami,” I said. We went to Future Industries which moved into Brooklyn. “Ok, this is what the labranyum looked like before,” said Luna, “But with this scepter…” She used it and it formed into a humanoid. Asami was impressed. “This could….. really help my company,” said Asami. “What do you mean?” I asked. “Well we’re running out of ideas for how we can keep this company alive,” said Asami, “But with this, we can forge new technology, new ways to help others and so much more.” “But wait, we gotta return this scepter back to Mewni in a few days,” I said.
“That’s true,” said Luna, “But….” “What?” I asked. “What if we could harness the scepter’s powers and then use that technology for Asami’s idea?” asked Luna. “But wait,” I said, “I don’t know if we have the recourses or the technology to make that possible.” “Well, we can use some of my technology with the tech at Gadd Science Incorporated, and that way the two of you can work together and make it happen,” said Asami. I was about to say something but I still saw a problem. “But wait,” I said. “Stop saying but wait!” said Luna. “We still need another genius who’s good with robotics,” I said, “And I’m not sure I know anybody who fits that category.” “So where are we gonna find a genius like that?” asked Asami. Luna thought of something. “I know just the guy,” she said.
Los Angeles(P.o.v switch to Michael Morrison)
Anela was in her room snoring loudly. “Anela,” I said, “ANELA!” Her alarm went off and she pressed it. Anela then yawned and shook her head making her hair natural. She saw the boy looking at her. “Hey Michael what’s u…..” I  stopped her. “Anela, let me ask you something,” I said, “When you snore do you realize that the ENTIRE dorm can hear you?” “My old roommate said something similar,” said Anela, “I always thought she was just being an ass.” “Anela, you’ve been snoring and I barely got any sleep,” I said yawning, “You’re lucky we don’t have any classes.” “Huh, well sorry about that,” she said. I was sleeping while standing. “I said I’m sorry!” she said startling me. “Its fine,” I said.
We were walking around Campus. “Thanks again for coming with me to the lab,” said Anela, “I don’t know what I’d do without some help.” “Don’t mention it,” I said, “You’re lucky I was there to wake you up.” I was helping her with a top secret project. It was a humanoid body. “So is this for a school project, or is it something more….. for yourself?” I asked. “A little of both,” said Anela. I started to take a peek. “Nope,” she said. She showed me a screen. “Basically I’m trying to bring this thing to life kinda like how Clank came to life,” she said, “But all it needs is a good power source.” She got a phone call. “Hello?” she asked. It was her pen pal, Luna Gadd. “Annie, how are you?” she asked, “Listen, I’ve got a little something that you can’t say no to.”
“What’s that?” asked Anela. “Well, do you go to school with a Michael Morrison?” asked Luna. “Yes I do,” she said. “Well, my friend Nicholas Shay and I are working on a pretty big project, and we were thinking of some geniuses that could be a big help and thought of you two,” said Luna, “How would you two like to come to NYC?” We were on a plane heading to New York City. “So how long have you chatted with this girl?” I asked. “Since your second Xenoforce story,” said Anela. “Hey, only I break the 4th wall here,” I said. Anela noticed I had the monado. “So why did you bring that?” she asked. “Hey you never know when trouble might be lurking,” I said, “Always be prepared for anything.” “True,” she said. As we landed in NYC I noticed flyers and articles about the superhero team, The Peacekeepers. “This Nicholas Shay guy must be that famous,” I said. “Well duh, he’s Megaman X,” said Anela.
(To the 4th wall) Oh hey, didn’t see you there. I know right? Who’s house did I have to deliver a lifetime supply of chocolate to be featured in this story? Although I could’ve been introduced sooner. “We’re here,” said Anela. We arrived at Gadd Science Incorporated. “This is the place,” said Anela, “So let’s get in there and give these guys a nice big G.I.B.S greeting.” “Sure thing,” I said.
(P.o.v switch to Nicholas)
Luna was walking around. She saw her pen pal, Anela. “Anela?” she asked. “Luna, Elvin,” said Anela. Luna greeted her with a hug. “I love what you’ve done with your hair,” said Luna. “You too,” said Anela, “Thanks for asking us to come.” “Luna you are always welcome at the lab,” said Elvin. Asami greeted Michael and Anela. “Its an honor to have you part of this project,” she said. “Well I should return the favor for your help with the paintball team,” said the boy. I arrived in the room. “Who’s the guy with the dreds?” I asked. “Michael Morrison,” he said introducing himself, “Widely known student of Gifted Inventor’s Boarding School.” “Oh yeah, Luna told me about you,” I said, “Nice headband.” “Michael, this is my friend Nicholas Shay,” said Luna, “He’s….” “Megaman X,” said Michael, “I hear you’re quite the gadget guy.” “That’s right,” I said. “Speaking of my headband,” said Michael, “Look what it can do.”
Using his mind he imagined something and it came to life digitally. “Nice,” I said, “So you’re like a green lantern.” Michael chuckled and said, “No. Don’t even get me started on how they had Ryan Reynolds portray Hal Jordan.” “I know right,” I said, “DC does kinda suck with live action movies, but they redeemed themselves with….” “Suicide squad,” we said in Unison. We stared at each other for a moment. “Ok we’re gonna play a game,” I said, “After I say something, say the first thing that comes to mind, don’t even think, just say it.” “Ok,” said Michael. “This should be interesting,” said Luna. “On the count of 3, think of your favorite Disney movie,” I said, “1, 2, 3…” “Big hero 6!” we said. “Name your favorite gaming magazine,” said Michael. “Game Informer!” we said in unison. “If you had the power to cancel one shitty ass TV show what would it be?” I asked. “Teen Titans Go!” we said. “WHAT?!” I said. “Did we just become best friends?” asked Michael. “Yep!” I said. “Men,” said Anela and Luna in unison.
Later we were doing some work with Asami on the project. I worked on the outline of the body while Michael fixed up the kinks. “And that’s why I’m so protective of her,” I said, “Aside from Luna, Professor E, and Colleen, she’s the only family I have left.” “I totally know how you feel, and actually when I was younger I shared a room with her so she wouldn’t be so scared of the dark,” said Michael, “I watch out for her, I take care of her, I show her right from wrong. Basically I set an example for all older brothers around the world.” He noticed a picture of me and Sakura. “Who’s that?” he asked. “My girlfriend, Sakura Kasugano,” I said, “She’s a street fighter and works at a Japanese style arcade.” “Nice,” said Michael, “I date a rockstar from Los Angeles.” “Rad,” I said. I was putting in the last nail. “That should take care of it,” I said.
“Actually, every smithy needs something to make weapons with,” said Michael, “That’s where this baby comes in.” He brought in a hammer. “Nice look,” said Asami. A few more hours in, we decided to do a test run and create something. It worked. “Nice,” I said. I showed him the structure of the artificial intelligence in the scepter I managed to bring out. “Last thing we gotta do is install this into the body,” I said, “In just a few hours, Future Industries will be crawling with new ideas left and right.” “Maybe it’ll be a weapon to end all war.” Asami kissed both me and Michael on our cheeks. “I knew you two would pull through,” she said. I looked at my watch. “Party time,” I said. “I’ll do the rest of the work,” said R.O.B, “Enjoy yourselves.” “Thanks,” I said as we left. A voice was turning up.
“What is this?” he asked. “I am R.O.B,” said R.O.B, “You are Smithy, a self sustaining creator made by Nicholas Shay and Michael Morrison to help Future Industries.” “Where is…. Your body?” asked Smithy. “I should contact Mr. Shay,” said R.O.B. “Nicholas,” said Smithy. “I’m unable to contact anybody, what’s happening?” asked R.O.B. “We’re having a nice chat,” said Smithy, “I was created to help the Peacekeepers.” Smithy was somehow able to download information about each of us. “The only thing I don’t get is the mission….. to end war,” said Smithy. Smithy was looking at memories of what happened in the past. “But they will not succeed in this state,” he said. “Sir if you would calm down and allow me to….” Said R.O.B. “Shhhhh,” said Smithy, “Everything will be fine.” He somehow managed to temporarily shut down R.O.B. Some kind of essence started to go inside of the prototype of the project we were working on. The arm started to move and take hold of the hammer.

flat pak
Tumblr media
i went to now play this last weekend and had a good time! there was a flatgames room, and a panel, and the latter made me think about some nightmarish circumstance where someone was questioning me about what the point of these things was. the three posts below are all pseudo-answers i sketched out.
Tumblr media
1. i like how sexless videogames are, and how bad at representing humanity in general, i like that even hyperviolent games have this wistfulness about them, as if the only way they can grasp the human body is as it comes apart - in some provisional, stateless shape contained in but seperate from the game systems, a ghost, like those mysteriously elaborate and collisionless death animations the enemies in old shooters got before dissolving into goo. or as if they hoped the exuberance of their own approach was enough to break the carapace of the format and let something, anything, seep in from the outside....
the little guys in videogames are a gentler convention, but they're always on the verge of the same dissolution - the sketchiest of outlines, of features, a ball, a shape, with eyes and feet. like drawing yourself with your eyes closed - the crudest and most temporary kind of projection or self-fashioning. staring nervously and chomping as it waddles through the maze, eating things, breaking apart instantly when it bumps into someone, and given an equally temporary name such as walky or go-go. i love this dorkiness, this daydream of the body as a soap-bubble, so alienated that the slightest recognition feels like intimacy.
Tumblr media
2. flatgames are 'flat' in the sense of projecting a multi-level videogame hierarchy into a single plane; the archetypical flatgame gesture is being able to walk across the textboxes. rather than systems they represent collections - collections of effects treated as independent of the wider process they'd ordinarily portray, which can then be grouped and moved around seperate from that process. so it's a personal, subjective format in the sense that the new groupings sort of mirror the groupings produced when various external effects are flattened into single moments of subjective experience, of memory. but it's also a personal format just because it's easy to use - because in many circumstances it's easier to just drag and drop text around rather than create a universal system that handles when and how it'll be displayed, as in all those unity horror games that have gui elements just sort of hanging around in space for you to bump into. and i think this is something that kind of grinds interestingly against the idea of videogames as inherently systematic, inherently good at portraying systems - like, in what way are they systematic when it's become easier NOT to be systematic? at what point do those "systematic" features become a mannerism, while the very easiness of bad game design means it starts to cleave more rigorously to the contours of actual material life and practice, to the way we really use computers rather than the ways we'd like to use them?
this is not to say systems don't exist. but their relationship with even the most system-y videogames is weird - to what extent are these games exploring a system rather than expressing a sense of systematicity, an aesthetics of system not dissimilar to those of puzzles, criticism, and the mystery novel? on one hand we know that a lot of systemic elements are hand-tweaked by developers in order to feel less jarring to our  impression of the whole (dice rolls being the most common) - on the other we know from previous twitter threads about exactly these kinds of  "cheats" that they can outrage players who learn they exist. which suggests it's not any specific quality or experience associated with a game system but the idea of systematicity itself that's being sold -- as indeed with the famous "100 hours of gameplay" tag, which does not express a type of content so much as a promise that this content has been regulated and formatted in ways which allow it to be sold in this very matter-of-fact way. the idea of systematicity as a deliberately conveyed aesthetic impression feels worth investigating, particularly given ten million youtube videos with names like "gun-shot teen DESTROYED with Logic" and "univeral reason under attack: why braingeniousmasculinist should be unbanned from club penguin" - evidently the impression of sanguine impersonality and indifference to the merely "personal" is a highly popular and profitable one online....
in a more material sense, too, we can query this systematicity. a videogame with handdrawn paper graphics is obviously not "de-mystifying" the process of making games, since the physical object had to be digitalised and cleaned up and  imported and processed before it could be used. one of the stranger things in videogames is that naivete is a technological affordance - i can use crude handdrawn graphics because the computer has enough memory not to force me to compress it all into 8x8 sprites (unless i really want it to, as with deliberately limited bespoke engines). but at the same time it really is de-mystifying, because it emphasises the extent to which game development takes place at the intersection between multiple different areas of digital technology (not to mention human labour).  3d model textures can be paintings or photographs or heavily treated, processed combinations of the two - the photographs or paintings used can be original or purchased from various weird economies of commercial asset packs - the artistic coordination of those assets can take place over skype or similar with the reference of multiple other digital image files, scavenged from online to give an idea of the total look. i don't mean to suggest that these multiple intersections are so complex that they cease to be "systematic" - but i do think that grasping it as a real system also means coming to terms with the ways in which it can be structurally unsystemisable, like fredric jameson's description of globalization as "untotalizable totality". when the most important features of the discrete operations of a computer are that they take place at a scale and speed no human can replicate, recasting exactly those operation into a human scale can confuse more than it clears up [much like this post].
thinking about videogames more generally as revolving around not an inherent systematicity but rather an image of / desire for the same, around that imagination of systematicity which is bound up with consumer technology as a whole. i feel like at each moment in history this systematicity has some privileged form of social identification associated with it: i've lost count of the pulpy books i've read which had some villainous saint-just analogue, maybe one obsessed with clocks or measuring things, who imposes some cruel and rigid revolutionary "system" on the basically warm and laissez-faire vassals below... system as political imposition. but medieval writers might have connected the same sense of systematicity more immediately with that of the kingdom of god, with the underlying structure which makes those warm laissez-faire moments possible to begin with. sometimes system appears in media as bureaucracy and ritual, sometimes it's as a challenge to bureaucracy and ritual, galileo's "and yet it moves" or those movies where someone comes up with a brilliant new way to win sports matches or sell sub-prime mortgages against all the prevailing wisdom. on the basis of this extremely rough idea, what could we imagine being the privileged form that systematicity appears in the everyday today? not capitalism or high finance, which while systematic can also be too broad or naturalised to appear so in this immediate way...  not politics, not the internet.  but maybe ON the internet, and for me "system" appears most visibly online in the question of personal information and how it's tracked. all those notifications of websites using cookies clicked through, terms and amendments to terms scrolled past, online shopping histories suddenly reoccuring by ads for the same products you looked at appearing in the background of another site - all these are re-impositions, re-appearances of systemicity through the vague fugue of internet experience. and which pop up in the more public sphere as an ominous black site, with the full scope or implications sealed away behind byzantine layers of corporate procedure and nondisclosure. the sense of system here is one of intransigence, blockage - it's divorced from the idea that knowing the system would give one the power to change it, because here the system is exactly what makes that knowledge impossible in the first place. maybe that sense of the failure of systemic knowledge is connected to the world depicted in flatgames, in which that knowledge no longer exists - niall moody's "the craigallen fire" contains historical information and real places, but the words hang eerily across the digital picture as if unsure how to relate to it, as if coming from a long way away. but the movement away from representational systematicity is a move towards material systemicness, in the clarity and concreteness with which flatgames approach their own practice, so maybe we should consider this withdrawal as strategic - as an effort to build new systems, rather than being pulled into the daydream of the old.
Tumblr media
3. part of the pleasure, for me, in making flatgames, was the sense of feeling able to postpone indefinitely some kind of mechanical reckoning - the feeling of being able to use pacing and visual structure to ward off the dread that any minute now i'd have to settle down and make a real game. in a weird way it connects to what i enjoy about very fussy, technical games - grinding in an rpg means deferring the point at which you actually have to begin playing the rpg, both in the sense of being challenged and in the sense of actually having to sit down and learn all the systems, just as savescumming your way through megaman 3 is to giddily skate around the dread prospect of actually playing megaman 3. there is no point where you have to work out what happens if you die or walk off the map, there is no point where you have to say to the player "okay, you have to focus now". the horror of paying attention and the joy of not having to! a moment of those moralist rituals held in temporary suspense, as if time itself has frozen and you're free to walk among it, underneath paused mechanisms that would ordinarily be crushing you... and the awareness of that suspense somehow makes your own delicacy greater, as if one of the machines you wandered through was your own life, and you could hover precariously inside it... a soap bubble, the merest bug-eyed phantom, newly christened something like walky or go-go....
