A history of antisemitism (1/4)
Where did antisemitism begin, and how did it evolve? The first episode of this documentary series examines the roots of antisemitism, starting with the first wave of anti-Jewish violence in the year 38 in ancient Alexandria.
Why did the first major wave of anti-Jewish violence arise in Alexandria when the Romans took power? How did anti-Judaism take root in Christian and Muslim civilizations? After a 300-year Golden Age on the Iberian Peninsula, how did Granada become the scene of a massacre -- the first pogrom on European soil? Why did Jewish pogroms occur throughout the Crusades?
Part one of this four-part documentary walks viewers through the first millennium of this story. The film also examines early struggles to counter antisemitic hostilities: From the protection of the Jews offered by the Carolingians, to the support of the Moorish kings in Spain and the call put out by Abbot Bernard of Clairvaux (1090 - 1153) to put an end to the bloody persecution of Jews during the Crusades.

Human rights sources reported on January 22 that Ghazaleh Zare, who lives in Khorramabad, Lorestan province, Iran, has been sentenced to three years in prison by the city's Revolutionary Court.
Zare received a one-year prison term for "propaganda against the regime" and a two-year sentence for both "forming groups and factions to threaten the security of the country" and "collaborating with individuals from opposition groups abroad."
Farhad Payar, Zare's uncle, is a longstanding colleague with DW's Persian desk and is editor-in-chief of Iran Journal
, a German-language website that covers developments in Iran.
Zeroing in on the women's activist
Zare, 47 years old, is a journalist, civil activist and the founder of two associations engaged in "helping working children" and "assisting female victims of domestic violence."
In 2018, Zare opened a cafe in Khorramabad. It serves as a venue for numerous meetings and workshops, primarily focused on "psychology and self-improvement."
All gatherings have been public and conducted within the legal framework of the Islamic Republic, including discussions about books authorized by the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance.
Her most recent workshop in May 2023 was about the book "Unlimited Game," the publication of which was also approved by the ministry.
Arrest, sentencing designed to intimidate
Ghazaleh Zare was arrested in Khorramabad on July 30, 2023, just four days before she was due to travel to Germany to visit her uncle.
Payar believes his niece's arrest and subsequent prison sentence in Iran can attributed to his journalistic activities with DW Persian and Iran Journal, even though Zare never collaborated with these media in any way.
"Two weeks after Ghazaleh's arrest, I received a message from her mobile phone. Initially, they tried to pretend that Ghazaleh herself contacted me, but it was clear that they were interrogators intending to threaten me directly," Payar told DW.
During the call, Payar asked about his niece's location and what she was being charged with. In response, he was told: "Cooperation with you [Iran Journal] and Deutsche Welle Persian and...."
Payar disclosed that the interrogators directly threatened him during this conversation with sentences such as, "You had better watch out."
Zare spent 23 days in solitary confinement and an additional 10 days in the regular women's section of Khorramabad prison. She was ultimately released on bail amounting to 500 million tomans (around €10,000, or $12,000).
Payar further asserted that the accusation of "collaboration with foreigners" in Zare's case is directly tied to his association with Iran Journal and DW Persian.
"In my opinion, Iran's government is aiming to accomplish three objectives: to penalize Ghazaleh for her civil activities, to impart fear among individuals like Ghazaleh, and to silence me or at least smother any reaction toward the injustice and oppression in Iran," he said.
'Another dark moment' for Iran
Manuela Kasper-Claridge, editor-in-chief of Deutsche Welle
, said "this destructive action taken by Iran pointlessly ruins the life of an innocent women and those of her family. It marks another dark moment in Iran's unsuccessful attempts to silence independent journalism abroad. But these tactics do not work — brave Iranian journalists continue their reporting. We stand with Farhad and his family and demand Ghazaleh's immediate release."
Zare will be appealing the three-year prison sentence.
According to Payar, his niece has also been mandated to recite and memorize portions of the book "The Future of the Islamic Revolution" by Morteza Motahhari for six months. Motahhari was one of the founders of the Islamic Republic and later became one of its most outspoken critics.
In the history of the Islamic Republic, there have been extensive efforts to intimidate journalists living outside of Iran. Exerting pressure on their family members within Iran is a method frequently employed by the Iranian government.

Ludwig Deutsch, “The Scholars”
The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Whoever travels a path in search of knowledge, Allah will make easy for him a path to Paradise. People do not gather in the houses of Allah, reciting the book of Allah and studying it together, but that tranquility will descend upon them, mercy will cover them, angels will surround them, and Allah will mention them to those near him. Verily, the angels lower their wings for the seeker of knowledge. The inhabitants of the heavens and earth, even the fish in the depths of the water, seek forgiveness for the scholar. The virtue of the scholar over the worshiper is like the superiority of the moon over the stars. The scholars are the inheritors of the Prophets. They do not leave behind gold or silver coins, but rather they leave behind knowledge. Whoever has taken hold of it has been given an abundant share. Source: Sunan Abī Dāwūd 3641, Grade: Sahih

Forty Hadith on Knowledge
If you have ever wondered what happened to the descendants of Muhammad - from the golden age of Islam to the crisis and breakdown of Islamic civilization in modern times - it can be summed up quite simply: Muslims have stopped following the prophetic way of being. These are simple, basic things like the sincere search for knowledge and a certain spiritual discipline. Every golden age of spiritual enlightenment and flourishing of human culture was consciously brought about by people of knowledge. The secret of human excellence and enlightenment is to seek knowledge with a pure heart and to use it humbly and sincerely in service of God and humanity. Knowledge and Love are as the two wings of the human Spirit and a ladder for our ascension.

WHATS GERMANY LIKE TELL ME EVERYTHING
Germany is great, but we're facing a living crisis, due to our completely incompetent government. (Can you tell i'm not a fan of our leftist government? lol)
It is really easy to get to different cities though due to our extensive public transport network (Deutsche Bahn). But the trains are very often late. It's basically a running joke in Germany to hate on the German Train Company lol.
I'm a huge fan of traditional german food like Knödel and Sauerkraut. We also have a huge variety of bread and sausage/meat.
Over christmas we had flood warnings due to the heavy rainfall at several different big rivers like the Rhine and the Ruhr. But it's getting a bit better now.
Weather in general during Christmas is very rainy and we barely get any snow where I live. Bavaria and Munich on the other hand tend to get more snow. (It was even in international news that Munich was completely submerged in 40cm of snow)
We also got terror warnings and they closed the Cologne Cathedral due to islamic terror until the new year. Mass and Confession is only possible after being searched by police to ensure safety.
