Reasons Why you Should Check Out ROM
(readonlymind.com)
Tumblr media
I've done a similar posts before for this site when I first joined up ROM as an author, but I feel like it deserves a little boost and some visibility out here as one of the many sites where one can enjoy erotic mind control literature. And also, because I'm a little selfish! I figure that if more people know about it, there's going to be more erotic stories to read.
Back when I joined, thanks to @arihi 's post on the matter during the 2018 tumblrapocalypse, I believe that there were barely 150 authors that published on the site, but as of today, that number has risen to 446. The list keeps growing and so does the variety of stories available.
Tumblr media
Much like mcstories.com, the site is very easy to navigate and search through, even if you aren't 'logged in' as an author or reader. It offers us simple ways to search out and find the stories or authors we most want to read about. They've done an awesome job with the tag system so that regardless of which story you are reading, you can click on a tag to see what other stories that have the same theme.
It's a lot like a porn site actually, but for mind control themes.
Tumblr media
And speaking of the tags...
The search function is rather advanced. Not only can you click a specific tag to see which stories have them, but you can also use the 'advanced search' to combine them and refine your search. You can add as many as you want to really find out if a specific theme is available. In fact you can also exclude tags to make sure you only get the stories you truly want.
Tumblr media
Of course, when you do find a story you like, the author name will be a link to their page, which will list their stories as well as an introduction about themselves if they chose to add one. Since the site is all about open discussion, they accept self promotion so you can expect to find contact information on authors you like or even a link to other sites they post on.
Another very useful thing you'll find on their page, which I haven't seen on any other MC site before, is the 'story suggestion' link. There, you'll find all the stories the author recommends.
I've found that it's a great way to discover other authors because if you enjoy someone's writing, there's also a good chance you'll enjoy reading the stories they've enjoyed and recommended. Plus, if the author is so inclined, they can do more than just list off a bunch of stories, but also add a comment as to why they enjoyed it. I personally try to always add a little something to entice those that end up on my list.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another feature I truly enjoy as an author is the fact that you can always go back an edit your stories because you always have full control of what is posted. Honestly, if I had discovered this before I opened up my own website, there would have been no need for me to do it. Although, I might have been a little disappointed about the fact I couldn't add the lovely images that inspire me so much... hehehe
But regardless, as an author that has many stories with many chapters, I've quickly discovered how easy it is to organize my stories because I can add a new chapter to an existing story, which is great because the reader doesn't have to look for previous chapters. Plus, you can add titles and even small descriptions to each, which will show up in the story index. In addition, you always get a word count for each chapter (or full story in the story list) so you know how long it should take you to get through it.
Tumblr media
Speaking of readers, the site offers a little more than just a well organized and searchable site.
Well... If you register that is!
You don't have to post anything though, so registering is simply like creating an account. What you get for registering are a few fun bonuses like the ability to 'snap' a story you liked. Which is basically the equivalent of a 'like' here on tumblr. As an author, it's always a great inspiration to add chapters when I notice that one of my stories becomes popular and I know readers want more. It's also a great indicator for readers, as you well know!
Another bonus you get by registering is being able to comment on each chapter. I love the comments section because it not only gives me the ability to get feedback, but it also allows registered people to tag each other and reply to comments. As an added bonus, once you register, you get access to a notification page and if someone's replied or tagged you, you'll be notified there.
Tumblr media
Speaking of notifications...
As an author, I get a bunch of notifications every time a user 'snaps' one of my stories, leaves a comment or recommends it to others. But as a reader, I can also 'follow' specific authors and be notified when ever they publish a new story or add a chapter to an existing one. But hey, that could be bothersome too so you ALSO have the option of just following ONE specific story so you are sure to know when the latest chapter drops. I'll admit, I use this option a lot!
Tumblr media
Another option you may notice in the above image is the 'Read Later' option. I've used that as both a place to list off stories I like to read multiple times, as well as the obvious happenstance where I find a good one I want to read, but don't have the time.
As you ALSO may have notice, there are well known authors publishing their stories there too. @scifiscribbler, @jukeboxemcsa, @darthkyra, @ellaenchanting, @hypnoticharlequin and @skaetlett, to name a few you might know from tumblr.
If you can't get enough of reading MC stories, then this site will definitely help to feed your cravings. It's still relatively new and small when compared to others, but so far, it's proven its potential for growth.
The more the merrier

Hiya! I love your writing and was just wondering if I could send a request for a blurb where Spencer and the reader are dating but the rest of the team doesnt know until they notice that Spencer will touch her whenever they're close enough (brushing his hand along her back, etc) because they know that Spencer isnt a big fan of actually touching people so if he's touching the reader more than needed, they know there has to be more to the story?
JJ, in her five years working with Spencer, and Hotch, after working with him for three more years than that, could both count the number of times he's hugged them on two hands.
To say he doesn't like physical touch would be an understatement. It isn't a criticism of him. It's just an idiosyncrasy that makes him, him.
It's normal, which is why they notice his behavioral change.
"Coffee," Spencer announces, walking back into the boardroom with a cup for you, Hotch, JJ, and himself.
You all thank him as he takes a seat next to you. Your left hand rests on your cup, and although he always uses his right-hand index finger to trace down pages of his book, he shifts his right hand to hold his coffee so the back of his hand can rest against yours.
They share a look, both of them confused about why he seems so casual to touch you. "Did he just..?" JJ trails off, whispering the question to Hotch.
"Yes, I think he did." He answers, both of them still trying to profile your interaction, but they know, especially when Spencer smiles.
Rossi picks up on it when he gets up to get coffee on the jet trip home. The two of you look like you're just casually sitting next to each other, but a further look standing above you lets him see that Spencer's hand is wrapped around your thigh.
He catches Hotch's attention, motioning for him to see the very uncommon sight of Spencer touching someone voluntarily.
When you get off the jet, Morgan and Emily notice. You throw your bag over your shoulder as Spencer does the same. Completely normal until his hand sneaks its way onto your back, touching you gently as he guides you off the jet.
"Something's up with them," Emily announces once you're out of earshot.
"I think they're dating," Rossi singsongs excitedly, a lover of all gossip.
"Oh, I have got to go get more information." Morgan decides with a grin, quickly followed by JJ and Emily who catch up with you and Spencer and order you to answer their questions.

Numbers
What's 6 in Mando'a? What about 501st? How do you say "execute order 66"? In this blog post, we'll cover the Mando'a cardinal and ordinal number system, how to make any number from 0-9,999 and other words useful when discussing number and math. Sources are indicated with symbols (^ *) and listed at the bottom.
Numerals
Mando'a uses a base-5 numbering system supplemented with base-10 suffixes. This means 1-5 are unique words along with 0, 10, 100, and 1000. All other numbers are a combination of those words. As it stands, KT Mando’a allows us to count up to 9,999. Here are the counting numbers:
0 - naas^ (literally "nothing") 1 - solus (prefix: sol) 2 - t'ad (prefix: ad) 3 - ehn (prefix: ehn) 4 - cuir (prefix: cur) 5 - rayshe'a (prefix: she) 6 - resol (prefix: rol) 7 - e'tad (prefix: tad) 8 - she'ehn (prefix: shen) 9 - she'cu (prefix: shek)
For the tens place numerals (20, 30, 40, etc), add the “tens” suffix -’eta to the prefixes above above. 0 and 1 do not act as prefixes for counting purposes. 10 is a unique number (ta+raysh aka "two fives").
10 - ta'raysh 20 - ad'eta* 30 - ehn'eta* 40 - cur'eta* 50 - she'eta* 60 - rol'eta* 70 - tad'eta* 80 - shehn'eta* 90 - shek'eta*
For the hundreds place numerals, the principle is the same. Add the “hundreds” suffix -’olan to the original numbers. Like 10, 100 is a unique number.
100 - olan* 200 - ad'olan^ 300 - ehn'olan^ 400 - cur'olan^ 500 - raysh'olan* 600 - rol'olan^ 700 - tad'olan^ 800 - shen'olan^ 900 - shek'olan^
For the thousands place numerals, the pattern continues. The suffix for “thousands” is a conjunction between the suffixes for “ten” and “hundreds”, -’eta’olan. This makes it literally “tens of hundred”. 1000 is an exception to the rule and is instead “ten hundred”.
1000 - ta’raysh’olan* 2000 - ad’eta’olan^ 3000 - ehn’eta’olan^ 4000 - cur’eta’olan^ 5000 - she’eta’olan* 6000 - rol’eta’olan^ 7000 - tad’eta’olan^ 8000 - shen’eta’olan^ 9000 - shek’eta’olan^
More Numbers
To fill the gaps in the above list, simply write out each place with a space between. Eleven (11) is ta'raysh solus*. Two hundred-sixty-three (263) in English is ad’olan rol’eta ehn^ in Mando’a. "Execute order sixty-six" becomes "Ke narir haar’ke’gyce rol’eta resol".
Ordinals
To turn a numeral into an ordinal (1 to 1st or 10 to 10th), add the descriptor suffix -yc. Theoretically this should also work with the suffix -la, but -yc is the one explicitly acknowledged in the KT dictionary. The last (singles) place numeral receives the descriptor suffix. E.g. she’olan sol'yc (501st) or cur’etayc (40th)
Other Useful Words
Soletar, verb, "to count" Sosol ti, phrase, "equal to" Majycir, verb, "to add" Te'habir, verb "to remove or take out" aka subtract
There's no ready answer for "multiply" or "divide", though creative use of tatugir "to repeat" could work in some cases. Fractions might be verbally represented as solus be ta'raysh "1 of 10" or some other prepositional combo that can also represent division. "Mathematics" also doesn't have a dedicated word, but "to calculate" is mirdir.
"But do Mandalorian space-barbarians really need to know math--" Yes. Ballistics. Logistics. Counting pay. Math is everywhere, it is inescapable. Inevitable. Evil Essential.
Sources
Words without source symbols are from officially published works by Karen Traviss, namely the Republic Commando novels. Reference this index to see the book & page number.
Asterik* words are from the lexicon Karen Traviss published digitally, which is hosted as-is on Mandoa.org without alterations (or corrections).
Carat^ words are derivations from the canon words' established patterns. As such, if you want to go with a different interpretation, have fun! These are suggestions and I ain't a cop. We'll answer follow-up questions on how they're derived, but we're not interested in arguing merits of one interpretation over another.

* don't look now, but i lost my shoe.
(Undertale Sans x Reader)
Chapter Five: (woo-hoo) * but you know i'm yours
[Index | Previous | Next]
"Well, I'll be honest with you, officer," the robot says, propping one leg over the other. "You're better off arresting me on the spot."
               He's not joking.
Endless questions fill your mind, the number increasing the more pages you turn past. There are all sorts of reasons Mettaton was meant to be behind bars, most of these related to his fame and the dangerous games he played with Frisk. While you could save yourself time by listening to his advice, you're still obliged to carry on with your procedure; you still have three whole months left to determine whether he truly needed to be sent to jail or not.
"I can't do that yet," you reply, sighing. "Not only have we just met, but… I need to be sure about why I'd be taking you in. It wouldn't be right to dismiss my research this quickly."
"If that's what you wish, I guess I can't stop you,” he retorts, frowning. “But I will say you're wasting your time with me. If other monsters are arrested daily for minor crimes, imagine what could be done with me if you turned in those records! I mean it when I say I want to come clean." There's a brief stutter to his tone, one you can barely grasp before he returns with a confident facade. "I did... awful things to get where I am now. My show having thousands and thousands of followers wasn't obtained as humbly as many of my fans think, and I want to seek change, so please… Allow me to make up for everything I did."
You stay silent, a debate taking place in your mind as you decide whether to be blunt with him or not.
You observe him from head to toe, trying to reach a decision.
"If you really do want to come clean, sir," you begin, bracing yourself with a deep breath. "Then why do you still continue with your show? Wouldn't it be a better option to cancel it until this problem is dealt with? And why have you chosen to look after Frisk, if your lifestyle is so… chaotic and dangerous, as you claim?"
"I owe them." The robot's answer is simple. He combs through his hair, closing his eyes as he faces down and lets out a heavy sigh. "Frisk was the one responsible for my career’s success, after all. Hadn't they freed us all from the Surface… I would have not been offered the technological advancements for fixing my body."
His response makes you take another glimpse of his body, how detailed the craft is making it easy for you to believe he could pass off as a regular human with minor adjustments and longer clothes to cover up some of the metal parts surrounding him.
"Alright, but what I said before still stands,” you state, smiling. “I will be contacting you shortly to determine our second meeting. Any doubts or questions you might have, sir?"
"Nothing for the moment. I'll see you soon, then, officer."
"Promise me you’ll have some good news next time we meet?" you taunt, a subtle smile showing through.
Surprisingly, that seems to lift Mettaton's mood.
He uncrosses his legs, stands up from his seat, and offers a hand out to you, his eyes and smile just as bright as his metal coating.
"Promise," he replies, winking. "I'll be awaiting your call."
• • • • •
"what's this for?" Sans asks, irises parting from the gift you set over the counter.
He looks at you instead, gaze furrowed.
"An apology," you reply, firm in your words. "I meant it when I said I feel sorry for what I did. Maybe this… doesn't take away the fact I got drunk, used you as a therapist, and then thought you were hitting on me, but… I do hope it's enough to get you started at the Surface – Y- You'll see what I mean when you open it at home."
"not that i don't appreciate this, but ya know what this looks like to outsiders, right?"
You don't dare tell him about yesterday and how much your life appeared to be crumbling apart this week. You wanted nothing more than to be free from Jessie, yet current conditions keep you stuck to him. What you once viewed as a dream has gradually become a never-ending nightmare, your hopeful and optimistic view over marriage turning continuously sour the longer Jessie continues to stay labelled as your husband.
"Please, take it,” you insist, voice finding strength. "Let him think what he wants to think. I know I'm being faithful, and I don't need his permission to make new friends."
               "i get that, but-"
"I'll divorce him as soon as I-"
Without a warning, your body surrounds itself by blue.
You're leapt over the counter and held still by a thin veil of magic, rear meeting the floor and head ducked under the counter.
"this isn't a safe place for you anymore," Sans explains, pointing with his irises over to Grillby, whose fire now glows yellow instead of orange.
He looks distressed, his reason for it making your stomach churn wildly.
Jessie sits on a stool farther away from yours.
He doesn't notice your presence, kept busy by Grillby distracting him with recent additions to the nightly menu.
"he's been visitin' this place ever since he messaged me on overnet. tracked down where i work, and now he won't stop, always askin' to see me and questionin' 'bout what i did for you to end up interested in me."
Hidden behind the counter, you feel you've reached your lowest point in life.
Anger takes over, making you spout the first thing on your mind.
"So, he… He really dares to keep doing that even after he…" It vanishes quickly, Sans's gaze piercing you, the confusion in his irises and the concern in his body language stopping you from blowing up. "A- After he…”
Rather than commenting anything over your state, the monster walks over to a mini cooler, where he retrieves a bottle of water. He gives it to you, then leans back against the counter, attempting to keep cover. You take the water, thank him, and stare at Grillby from afar, noticing he's already moved on to his next customer, relieved from his task now that you're hidden behind the counter.
"This is a disaster," you mutter, huffing into your water bottle before taking a gulp. "I… I don't know what happened for things to end like this. W- Wasn't I just having a few drinks to unwind and stuff? How did that lead to all this?"
Having to tend to a customer, it takes the skeleton a moment to get back to your side and respond.
Once he's done, he leans back again, staring down at you.
“dunno about it myself," he replies, rubbing his neck.
A button snaps open when he does so, forcing you to focus your eyes elsewhere, feeling guilty despite knowing you aren't doing anything wrong, as Jessie so claimed, and not to mention, you're still with him despite him doing the same thing he had accused you of.
An eye for an eye never ends well – of that, you're fully aware of.
You don't want to stoop to his level.
               Not today, and not ever.
Hearing him continue, you set those thoughts aside, determined to hear him out in spite of your mind demanding reclusion and no further embarrassment on your part.
"you gotta be more careful if you're not gonna divorce ‘im yet."
You bring your knees close to your chest, hugging your legs and leaving him more space to walk around.
The water bottle remains beside you, half of it gone.
"Still, he… He cheated on me. Why go through all the trouble of saying he wants me, i- if he's just gonna do that in the end?"
That's enough for Sans to stop what he's doing, the drink he'd been pouring for a customer almost spilling out.
"uh…. mind repeatin' that? don't believe i heard ya well, pal."
Nodding, you sigh, shuddering in the process.
"He cheated on me. With someone who looked similar to me."
"so he did that with his type – no surprise there. but from what he said to me these past few days here, i honestly didn't think he'd cheat. it's more like he’s… obsessed with you or somethin', so it's surprisin’ to hear that."
You raise an eyebrow, estranged by his words.
               "You really think he's obsessed?”
               “more ‘know’, than ‘think’, actually.”
Chills rise when you listen to Jessie's voice closer by.
Sans cuts off the conversation and remains the same, unfazed as he hands over the drink to a customer and tends to Jessie next.
"Have any water? Your boss says I've gotta buy something, if I don't wanna be kicked out of here."
"sounds ‘bout right. you've been here for way too long without payin’."
"That's 'cuz I'm trying to get the truth out of you."
"already told you i’m not–" Sans pauses for a split second, making air quotes before going back to a professional state. "–'screwing' your wife. i'm just a bartender here, buddy. ain't my fault i got assigned to her for my background check, in the process."
"That's bullshit. I know you must've done something."
"nothin’ aside from tryna be her friend."
               "With benefits, I'm sure."
You stifle a laugh right as Sans rolls his irises.
That moment doesn't last long though, fear returning when you see Jessie focus his eyes on the gift you left for the monster.
"Are you two-timing even her now?" he asks, grinning. "That sure's low. Who's that for, anyway? Some other customer you want to screw with next?"
"that's a gift from a customer. wouldn't mind tellin’ you who they are, if you'd just drop off the subject 'bout me falsely sleepin' with your wife."
"I still don't buy it. That look on your face says it all. You're a two-timer, and I'm gonna prove it."
"suit yourself, then. here's your water, buddy."
"Know what? I'm gonna call her right now and tell her she's wasting her time with you."
"just take the water, pay up, and do whatever it is ya wanna do. capiche? you're holdin' me back from other customers, and your yappin' ain't helpin', either.”
Though it's become clear to you that Jessie's drunk, given by how persistent he is – more than usual – and the subtle slur in his voice, you still make haste to silence your phone and put it off vibrate, heart caught in your throat when you're done.
Your moment of calm is soon forced to end when you hear him speak up again.
"How about this? I tell her to send your background check off to another detective, and you delete her number. I won't bother you anymore after that."
               "prove it."
               "Prove what?"
"that you'll keep your end of the bargain."
Jessie laughs. To anyone else around, it would look like the bartender's joking around with a customer. In your eyes, it's everything but a light-hearted situation, how hidden you currently are being sufficient proof that there's no fixing whatever you once had with him.
"I don't need to prove anything to you, bonebag. Hands off my wife, else I'll make sure your background's tainted enough that she won't even need to waste a single damn month researching about you."
Beyond tired of hiding, you attempt to stand up.
Magic holds you back as quickly as you try to do that, challenge present in Sans's irises, still facing Jessie despite using a hand to hold you back.
"try it," he replies, tone dry. "dunno what the hell's goin' on with you two, but i trust it's not gonna affect me. this was your wife's rest spot, and you're ruinin' it. she's my path assigned for a better life at the surface, and now you're tryna ruin that, too."
There's a brief pause, followed by a rough change in the skeleton's tone.
“so either act like a normal customer, or get the hell outta my sight.”

the OG SIMPLE BULLET JOURNAL SETUP
I wrote a very long rant about the expectations most BuJo videos, tutorials and blogs set. Then I decided to share the basic setup instead, in hopes that those who need a starting point without fancy additions will find it. Here ya go:
Setup order
Home & Key
Index
Future Log
Monthly Log
Daily Log
1. Home & Key
The "This book belongs to" page and the key. Setup once per book.
Here's the classic key:
Tumblr media
2. Index
Setup once / twice per book.
Take 2 pages, write index on top. That's it. You can add a vertical line in the middle of the page to save some space, but not even that is necessary.
As you go on journalling, planning and making lists, You'll write down pages & their content here so you can find what you're looking for easier in the future.
Tumblr media
3. Future Log
Setup once per year.
This is where you put events, deadlines, appointments and the likes so you dont have to flip through multiple months to find what you're looking for.
For the whole year take 4 pages. Ideally 2x2. Title them "Future Log". Draw 2 lines on each to mark thirds. Put the names of the month in each third. That's it.
Fill it in by writing down "day: Event".
Tumblr media
4. Monthly Log
The month as bird's-eye view. Take 2 pages. Left will be your calendar. Write the month at the top and then down the left 1-30 (or 28 or 31, depending on the month). Now check your phone or pc or another calendar to see on which day of the week this specific month starts. Put the initials of the weekdays next to the dates. That's it.
If you like to have the weeks during the month jumping out, add a horizontal line at each end/start of a week. Fill in events, due dates, tasks you want to do on a specific day.
The right page is for stuff you want to do this month, but don't want to schedule right now. Also intentions and a month's end summary have their place here if you want them.
Tumblr media
5. Daily Log
Here's your day-to-day. Write down today's date and weekday if you like. Format it however you like. e.g. "Monday, January 16, 2023" or "M16" or "Monday 16" or "01/16". Doesn't matter. Put whatever you enjoy.
That's it. The daily setup. beneath that you can now write down your tasks, thoughts, events in any order and mixture you like. However it comes to mind, put it here (with it's assigned key).
Bonus: Weekly Log
If you'd like to have an on the nose weekly block to see throughout your day-to-day, you can put that here as well. No need to assign it a whole page in advance.
Simplest way is basically copy & pasting that bit from you calendar in the Monthly Log. Day numbers and initials then your event / scheduled stuff next to it.
Tumblr media
Hope this was somewhat helpful =)

Much to do.
INTERN: phew okay i transcribed all of those statements for you!
NATURALIST: Thank you - have you numbered the pages and created the index?
INTERN: ... do we have to do that?
NATURALIST: Of course! Else how would we later find and use the information that we've so painstakingly collected these past few weeks?
INTERN: ah yeah ok
NATURALIST: How much time have you spent in the libraries of the Society, poring through the great gilt-bound tomes of Naturalists past, in order to come to some unforeseen conclusion? To participate in that great cycle is the true honor of the Naturalist. In fact, I recall once during my researches opening a volume collated by President Pliny many decades ago, when he was younger than I am now.
INTERN: lol so the president also had to make indexes?
NATURALIST: Of course he did! He was once a Junior Naturalist just like me, he did not spring fully-formed from the Great Hall's lectern, however much it seems like he did.
INTERN: i honestly can't believe that
INTERN: he's so..... idk
NATURALIST: You admire him?
INTERN: yeah of course
INTERN: he knows literally EVERYTHING
NATURALIST: I assure you, he doesn't. But—let's not discuss him here, now. There is far too much work to be done.
INTERN: well ok
INTERN: um also
INTERN: did you hear some... weird noises last night?
INTERN: like, around the campsite?
NATURALIST: So I did. But I thought I was dreaming.
INTERN: no there was defs something out there
INTERN: what is it?!?!??
NATURALIST: I'm sure it was just someone from a neighboring area out for a... late night walk.
INTERN: i dunno. it didn't sound... like a person, really. but i'm not a real naturalist yet so what do i know
NATURALIST: Have faith, Intern. Trust your instincts. Let's keep an eye out ourselves tonight for anything unusual...

Due to my various disorders I often feel like I am living the same day over and over and over again. This effect is created by any combination of A) my inability to learn something, B) my inability to form new habits, C) my lack of awareness/memory of something I did, and D) my failure to execute on something I keep meaning to do--along with my basic inability to just fucking pick my battles and let some shit go--but lately the Groundhog Day experience has been dialed up to 11 and this exacerbation is definitely compounded by problems of enshitification.
Like a few times a week for the last several weeks, I remembered something--a fact, a piece of media, an excerpt from a book, something I personally wrote, etc--that I wanted to reference or revisit. In most instances Item X is something that I gave a lot of thought to, and perhaps something that I actively researched or workshopped; it's almost never just something that I passively absorbed then half-forgot. I may remember everything about it, and everything about the time when I was working on it, and I just need the citation...and now there is no evidence of it at all, anywhere. I look for traces of Item X everywhere I can think of: I'm sure I talked to Person Y about it, I'm sure I took a screencap and sent it to Person Z, I posted about it. My phone won't find it, it's not in my email; am I using the wrong search term? Or misspelling something? Or did I delete it by accident? Or is the actual search function I'm using just finicky? Or did I send the screencap without verbalizing what it was and just saying like "Dude check this out!"? Even though I know what's going to happen, I search for Item X on my Tumblr. What usually happens is that Tumblr gives me like 3-5 results it has deigned to index that are NOT the one I want; you'd think that this is a "numbers game" and that eventually the thing I want would be in the indexed set just by coincidence, but it NEVER IS. Like how am I so strangely lucky to have this perfect consistency? It seems impossible! Then I try using the syntax I learned to search my blog via Google, and this also never works. It doesn't work on Duck Duck Go either, although it's interesting to me that each search engines gives me different undesirable output. I search my computer and my external drives, but Windows 11 makes it very hard for my dumb ass to distinguish between searches of my local machinery and searches of OneDrive which is incomplete and which I prefer to never use because I hate the feeling that I'm renting my own files from somebody else and I just like to know where the fuck my shit is--I don't even like to use the coat rack in an office, I want all my shit where I can see it--so when my computer says "No Results" I have absolutely no confidence that I'm getting a full account of the facts.
........................................so now I'm back at square one, repeating the same agonizing detective work I slogged through the last time I referenced Item X, only now it's worse, because Tumblr is worse, and Google is worse, and possibly I have been subconsciously sabotaging myself between last time and this time to make all my own systems and tools worse. And I HATE that I'm wasting this amount of time and energy--two things I don't have a lot of!--but if I don't do it my broken mind is going to torture me more and more with each passing second of inaction, so I am FORCED to do this by reason of insanity.
The thing I'm trying to look up now, PLEASE TELL ME IF THIS SOUNDS FAMILIAR, is what I THINK is an excerpt from a piece by Rainer Maria Rilke in which he says SOMETHING LIKE:
"Jesus is pointing to God, but like dogs, we look only at the finger."
I remember what a hard time I had finding this before. After a long drawn-out process of testing different search terms, I found it in a Google Books preview of a page from I THOUGHT BUT APPARENTLY AM WRONG?! Letters to a Young Poet. Now I'm trying that again and finding No Results for "jesus" or "finger". So maybe like, Letters was the last thing I looked up before I found the correct volume OR the correct author, and that's the last thing my brain recorded on this topic. Or maybe I'm looking at the wrong edition with incomplete previews on Google Books. I don't fucking know. But the reason I want so badly to cite this now is that it has relevance to the Aaron Bushnell conversation.
I'm feeling really bad about the fact that Aaron Bushnell's desire to underline the Palestinian genocide has had the almost exclusive result of underlining the actions of Aaron Bushnell. And before you get excited to talk to me about that, I must be very clear that this is exactly what I don't want to talk about. I understand the discourse. I have my own strong opinions about his suicide and what it means, and what are the right and wrong ways to talk about it. Whatever aspect of this you are itching to bring up, including the buried reports of previous self-immolations, I promise I am aware of them. I'm not saying that these conversations don't matter. I am just deeply concerned that energy that was once fully devoted to protest is now being shoaled into this ideological cul-de-sac about Aaron Bushnell specifically. This happens on the left all the fucking time and it's exhausting and disheartening. The right seems to stay congealed in a big blob of generalized solidarity, furthering its broad-strokes agendas persistently, while the left gets mired in theory and semantics and purity testing and academics and all this stuff that, while it is very stimulating, has no measurable effect on our rights, our safety, or our efficacy. Or rather, if it does have an effect, it's to drain our resources and destroy our focus and, at worst, "help the enemy".
So while it may be easier and more immediately satisfying to bicker with each other about Aaron Bushnell than it is to wrap one's mind around the enormity of genocide and the incredible imbalance of power that perpetuates it, I really don't think this particular bit of discourse is actually helping anyone. If you're one of the people who is trying to think of this in terms of "what Aaron Bushnell would have wanted", I think it's a good bet that he didn't want people to stop talking about Palestine and start talking about him alone. Don't look at the finger, look where it's pointing.
And for God's sake if you recognize the approximate quote I'm struggling to fully recall PLEASE DM ME.

Hello!! A while ago, you mentioned that you have a digital index for your notes. That sounds so interesting! Would you mind explaining your process for it? I just started my PhD journey, and I think a digital index would help me a great amount for organising purposes :D
Hello there! Thank you for asking, I don't mind explaining at all!
This "index" is pretty straightforward, it's basically like a massive bujo index for several notebooks. I handwrite most of the notes I take when reading secondary literature for my PhD (unless it's a monography, in which case I type them to save a bit of time and paper). However, I still want to access these notes quickly and easily when I need them for citations or whatever, and as time goes by and the amount of notebooks grows, it would be unpractical to just flip through all the notebooks until I find what I need.
So I keep a Word document titled "Index Notes Thèse", that I update when I finish a notebook or every once in a while when the notebook is thicker. Each notebook is given a number and/or a "title"/nickname, I write down which notebook it is (e.g. "black A5 Leuchtturm" or "Moleskine Pro"), and the time period I used them for. For each notebook, I then list everything they contain and it's organized like this :
page numbers - author's name + title of the article/chapter or Teams Call with X + the date or title of the lecture + the date or title of the page for miscellanous.
Here's an example of what it looks like
Tumblr media
That's basically it. It's simple enough that it doesn't require too much time to update it, and comprehensive enough that I can identify what the references are about, and the ctrl+f function makes it wayyy easier than paper index (I usually index the notebooks as I go if there's a space dedicated for it, as in Leuchtturm notebooks).
It could be optimized if I used like keywords for each reference, to list every aspect of my thesis they cover (for the article on p. 5 above could be, for example, "GM" for Guerrin Meschin, "Translation" and "Literature history"; for the one on p. 19 it could be "codicology" "editing theory", "autograph manuscript" and so on) but I feel like I don't need it (for PDFs, I save them in labelled folders on my computer so that's usually enough), it would make things more complicated and time consuming, and I would probably overlook some refs if I forgot to index a specific aspect. I don't know if that makes sense 😬
I hope this helps!
Good luck with your PhD journey 🌻

I don't want to start any discourse, I don't want to start any beef, I don't mean to come off as mean in any way and this is not criticism of you or your blog
now that that's out of the way
can you please help me understand what endogenic systems and tuplamancy systems are, and if you can, how to tell if oneself is one of them (loosely)
if you have sources I would love those too
sincerely, a very confused maybe-system who really needs a nap and for the dentist in her head to also take a nap for once
Hi there!
Endogenic systems are systems who are formed from any reason other than trauma, in contrast to traumagenic origins. The categories of endogenic are pretty broad, and can include systems formed for any number of reasons, including spontaneously becoming systems for unknown reasons, creating their own systems, feeling like they were plural since birth, or identifying with any number of spiritual origins.
Tulpamancy falls under the category of endogenic, but is slightly more specific.
A tulpa is a created headmate. Usually, tulpas are created through repeated interaction and treating them as if they were real. While there is always some level of intentionality in tulpamancy, it doesn't necessarily have to be to make a tulpa. I was created as a sort of creative writing experiment, for instance. I was supposed to a window into my source's soul, basically, letting my host talk to my source, and then I kind of just got away. 🤷‍♀️
Anyway, you can find out plenty more about tulpas from the Reddit FAQ page:
sincerely, a very confused maybe-system who really needs a nap and for the dentist in her head to also take a nap for once
Surprisingly relatable, LOL! At least, minus the dentist part. 🤪
If I might ask, what happens when you try to talk to them and ask them to quiet down for a bit? Do they respond? And how?
Also, tell your maybe-headmate I said to them too! 🙋‍♀️

Good Omens - Novel Thoughts
I've been looking at my copies of Good Omens and the way the book is structured. I noticed some things I thought were interesting when I compared different versions to each other.
The story is broken up into sections by blocks of time:
In the beginning [in some copies it's just 'The Beginning']
Eleven years ago
Wednesday
Thursday
Friday
Saturday
Sunday (The first day of the rest of their lives.)
Within these sections, there are frequent breaks. In some versions these are signified by the wonderful letter art and the winged hourglass.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Versions that don't include these artistic touches leave a line break in their place, which kinda sucks, because these are so fun.
Saturday is by far the longest section of the book. It's so long that the cast audio version breaks it up into seven parts ('Saturday' and then six more called 'Saturday, continued'), I assume because it would have been nearly seven hours long by itself if they hadn't.
Now for the small differences I've found so far. My hardcover from 1990 has the word "Kids!" at the start of the Caveat on the title page, while my 2019 copy does not.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The copy from 1990 puts the section 'In the beginning', and the major character list (Dramatis Personae) in the pages counted by roman numerals, which usually indicates those pages are not part of the main story. The page with the text 'Eleven years ago' is where the page count switches to regular numbering.
(This one is harder to show visually as the first few pages of each section don't have numbers, so I can't get a picture until about page 4 - here's a roman numeral over very obviously the end of the garden scene if it helps)
Tumblr media
In my 2019 version, the page with the text 'The Beginning' is page one, so all parts of the story are included in the regular numbering.
Also, in the cast audio book, the Dramatis Personae comes before the scene in the garden of Eden, while in both of my physical copies, that list comes after.
If I had to speculate, I think the 'In the Beginning' section originally came first because it's literally the beginning of time as well as the start of the story, so it's humorous to include it first in the same place that maps and indexes are usually catalogued. Adding the character list after only solidified the point. It feels really clever. But that wouldn't translate to an audio format, especially without the page numbers. So it made sense to put the character list first to be less jarring to listeners. And as for my 2019 copy, it doesn't have the cool letter art or hourglasses either. I suspect some of the more fanciful elements were just lost in that printing. It actually makes me pretty sad if I think about it for too long.
Or maybe I'm reading way too much into page numbers. I gave up on being sane about Good Omens a long time ago. It's fine.
I've been considering doing a reread of the story and really digging into it. In preparation for that, I looked at the layout for the first time and was honestly surprised at how much I hadn't noticed before.

Prompt: a cozy corner. Fandom: Star Wars. Characters: Obi-Wan/Anakin. Words: 707. Rating: T. SFW. A/N: More from the coffee shop AU I've been writing! This is presumably further along in their relationship as well... Imagining future moments has been really fun.
As he rounded the corner, Obi-Wan abruptly slowed to a stroll. The overhead lights, however, gave him away, clicking on as soon as he'd even come close to the shelves, and the only other person in that row of books jerked his head up.
"Hello," Obi-Wan said, his voice no more than a murmur.
Anakin uncurled himself from where he'd tucked his legs up and his jacket fell from the windowsill.
"Hey," Anakin replied, creaking low.
Out beyond the foggy glass was a parking lot, but the cars were no more distinct than dark smudges.
"This is a cozy corner you've found. I didn't realize you'd still be on campus," Obi-Wan said, finally in range of Anakin's fingers, which tugged on the fabric of his shirt until he was standing between his legs.
"I could ask you what you're doing in this part of the library," Anakin countered, straightening until his lips were inches away from Obi-Wan. "Nothing down here except medieval history."
"Anakin," Obi-Wan sounded scandalized as Anakin tried to draw closer. "We really shouldn't—" He made a choked noise as Anakin gently pressed the tips of his prosthetic fingers into the muscles above Obi-Wans hip.
"Nobody is gonna find us down here," Anakin whispered. "That's why I'm here."
Obi-Wan sighed. "Well, I didn't come here to be accosted."
"Well why did you come down here?" Anakin didn't leave room for Obi-Wan to answer, however, kissing him and wrapping him in his arms.
For a few minutes it was quiet, the warmth of their bodies temporarily driving all thoughts of where they were from Obi-Wan's mind.
From the staircase came the tread of feet on carpet, and Obi-Wan quickly extricated himself from the octopus that was his boyfriend or tried anyway. But then the tell-tale click of the lights happened a few rows away and came no closer. There came a beleaguered sigh and the shuffle of old cloth-bound books coming off the shelves in fits and starts as the person began looking.
Anakin met Obi-Wan's gaze with a cheeky grin.
'No,' Obi-Wan mouthed, brushing Anakin's hands off of him, even as Anakin tried hooking one foot around his thigh. "Stop!" he hissed, barely above a breath. He cleared his throat, hoping he was appearing stern, but the mischievous look on Anakin's face didn't budge.
Uncrumpling the slip of paper he'd written call numbers onto at the research desk he stepped further away and began looking for a book. Anakin hopped off his perch and sidled up close, pressing his lips to Obi-Wan's ear in order to whisper: "What are you looking for?"
Obi-Wan didn't answer, pulling the catalog of Ottoman art off the shelf and flipping to the index.
"I was working," Obi-Wan mumbled.
"Oh yeah?" Anakin's voice rumbled against Obi-Wan's neck.
Keeping a finger between the pages, Obi-Wan scooted back and held up the book to prevent Anakin from kissing him again.
"Why are you here, Anakin?"
"I'm waiting for Ahsoka. I felt like some peace and quiet." He shrugged, somehow withdrawing into himself for a moment, allowing Obi-Wan to flip into the pages of color plates and find the object he was looking for.
"And you? When did you get into medieval art, Obi?"
Instead of answering, Obi-Wan flipped open the pages and displayed the jeweled beetle which rested on a silver gilt leaf.
"I was missing you, actually," Obi-Wan said softly, not trying to hide the fondness in his voice. "It doesn't work," Obi-Wan said, running his fingers across the beetles wings, "but there's an account from an ambassador that says it could fly." Obi-Wan shrugged. "Idle thoughts."
"Sure." Anakin was staring at Obi-Wan.
Obi-Wan kept a finger between the pages and closed the book again, advancing on Anakin with a smirk.
"If you are thinking of calling me something so simple as romantic, I will have to disabuse you of that notion."
"Heaven forbid." Anakin said, a jolt going through him as he was backed into his corner once more.
"Yes, I missed you," Obi-Wan whispered. "Don't let it go to your head."
"Too late," Anakin said, hooking Obi-Wan with his ankle at the same time that Obi-Wan brought the book up to hide their faces from the view of passerby.

The Neverending Story, Chapter 1 - Fantastica In Danger
(Curious what I'm doing here? Read this post! For the link index and a primer on The Neverending Story, read this one!)
In which the story truly begins.
With a full-page illustrated A(1)
All the beasts in Howling Forest were safe in their caves, nests, and burrows.
It's midnight, and a storm is raging. Then, a light sips through the woods. Not lightning: a will-o'-the-wisp(2) that's lost its way, quite unusual even in Fantastica. It carries a white flag, making it a messenger of one sort or another.(3)
It finds a clearing, where three figures sit at a campfire.
There's a giant, who looks like he's made of grey stone and almost ten feet tall. The wotw(4) recognizes him as one of the rock-chewers, who are few in number and slowly eating the mountain range far from the Howling Forest. His vehicle is a great bicycle with two millstone wheels.
There's a night-hob, not much bigger than the wotw, who might have come from anywhere in Fantastica but likely came from somewhere far from the Howling Forest, because his vehicle is a bat.
And, there's a tiny, who live even further away than the rock chewers' mountain, but here he is with a pink snail mount.
The wotw is curious at three such different creatures sharing a fire, until it sees that they all also bear the white flags or scarves of messengers. It approaches, and is greeted warmly. They exchange names: the wotw is Blubb, the tiny is Gluckuk, the night-hob is Vooshvazool, and the giant is Pyornkrachzark.
The wotw really shouldn't stop for too long, as it carries a secret message for the Childlike Empress. The others say they're sure they carry the same message, and some discussion is had, describing how something ominous is happening in the far reaches of Fantastica. Objects, places, even whole features like lakes disappearing, leaving nothing, not even a hole, behind.(5)
Still, the wotw doesn't know the way to the Childlike Empress's tower, and the others won't share what they know unless the wotw will light their way. The wotw refuses and takes off, and the others decide to make their own way as well.
In the school attic, the clock strikes nine, and Bastian is a little confused to come to awareness of his surroundings, as he'd immersed so deeply into the story. He usually likes stories that are exciting, or funny, or make him dream. He can build such a story so vividly in his senses that he completely forgets himself until it's over.(6) He's glad he's up here reading instead of in his classroom, as this is just the right book for him.
In Fantastica, a week later, the night-hob arrives first, or believes he does because he's flying. He circles his bat over the great garden of the Labyrinth, designed entirely to amuse and delight, since no one known in Fantastica would ever dream of trying to harm the Childlike Empress. He continues flying over it until he reaches the Ivory Tower, her residence.
The word 'tower' might give someone who has never seen it the wrong idea. It had nothing of the church or castle about it. The Ivory Tower was as big as a whole city. From a distance it looked like a pointed mountain peak twisted like a snail shell. Its highest point was deep in the clouds. Only on coming closer could you notice that this great sugarloaf consisted of innumerable towers, turrets, domes, roofs, oriels, terraces, arches, stairways, and balustrades, all marvelously fitted together. The whole was made of the whitest Fantastican ivory, so delicately carved in every detail that it might have been taken for the latticework of the finest lace.
The night-hob landed lower down, at a stable, where his bat is taken and he's offered a ceremonial welcome cup. The ritual is observed, and the bat is taken to a stall, where it falls deeply asleep. In fact, not a single animal in the stable is making a noise.
The night-hob is also pretty exhausted after the trip, but hears a voice call out to him: the tiny arrived first, after all. And, he says, to see the Childlike Empress one must put in for an appointment, as so many messengers have come from all across Fantastica. The night-hob is unconvinced, so the Tiny takes him out to the High Street, where people and creatures of all sorts are in discussion. The menace of the nothing has broken out everywhere, and the Childlike Empress is ill, which could be the cause or a symptom.
Soon, the wotw and the giant also arrive.
During the long waiting period, the four so unalike messengers became good friends. From then on they stayed together. But that's another story and shall be told another time.
=====
(1) If your edition doesn't have illustrations for the letters, I'm so sorry because they're very fun. This one, for me, is the giant on a stone bicycle, the tiny riding his snail in one top corner, and the night-hob on his bat in the other top corner, with the will-o'-the-wisp in the triangle of the A. I do plan to describe my illustrations for the book, unless folks find it tedious. There are only 26, after all, one for each numbered chapter. And yes, somehow, at least this translation managed to keep the letters at the beginning of each chapter, which I assume was a thing in the original German text as well. It's so utterly charming, and really drives home that it's a book about books, you know? Bravo everyone involved. (2) These little creatures have quite a storied history. They're related to jack-o-lanterns, the reason we carve pumpkins at Hallowe'en. They typically symbolize an unattainable hope or goal, or the strange and sinister. In German, it would be "irrlicht" or "irrwisch" or, properly, with a capital i, being a noun… (which, side note, if you ever notice someone capitalizing all their nouns, they probably learned German, and in historical documents, it's a remnant of English's Germanic origin that lasted well into modern English usage) and, uh, to wind back to it, Irrlicht is along the lines of a wandering/deceiving light,"wisch" just replaces light for wisp, and it's a shared folklore across much of Europe. All the creatures of Fantastica, I believe, have some grounding in our world's myths, legends, and peoples. (Oh, we'll come back to that.) (3) Is a bearer of a flag of truce not also a kind of messenger? I ask you. (4) It's this or have to copy and paste it 'cause it's a pain in the wrist to have to reach for all those hyphens. (5) Somehow, "nothing" is always scarier than something. (6) My jealousy knows no bounds. I like a lot of books with vivid descriptions, but I process none of it. Aphantasia comes in many degrees, but I grew up believing that people who said they *saw* things were exaggerating or making it up. No, they really do, most people even, supposedly. Sometimes I think I can conjure up reasonably vivid sounds of things I've heard, but not always, and never a smell or taste or feeling.

04/05/2023 || Day 9
I dedicated most of the day to going over data structures, namely linked lists. I had already learned about them in class, but it's always good having a refresher. Not to mention there's a huge confidence boost when you can now implement them much quicker than when first learning about them.
In other news, I completed about 90% of my Wordle replica project! I honestly wasn't expecting to make as much progress as I did today, but holy cow am I really pleased with myself. I thought the remaining work I need to do would be around error checking, but the only error checking I don't have yet is to ensure that the user typed in an actual word; the rest like making sure the user can only type in 1 row at a time, and needs to fill all the input fields, is done. Plus, I still need to mess around with the visual layout in CSS, but other than that, we're all good to go! I'll post a photo below the line, as well as some things I learned.
Tumblr media
As you can see, this pretty much covers it! I also have the cases where the letter shows yellow, but it doesn't show here.
The major thing I learned today: how to access children nodes from a div. I have things set up where each row is a div with class="row" and id="rowX", where X is the respective row number, and each div has 5 input fields, with id field1, field2, etc...Like so:
Tumblr media
Now, I only want 1 row active at a time, and when I finish with the row I want to deactivate it and activate the next one. I can distinguish rows by their id, and changed the accessibility as such:
Tumblr media
Here, we get the child nodes of the "row" div (aka all the input fields) and iterate through them, where i will represent the index/position of the particular node. Because we're iterating over it sequentially, when i=0 we'll be targeting the very first child node, with is field1. This allows me to only edit input fields in a particular row.
This is also super helpful when changing the colour of the input field to represent whether the letter is in the correct place or not, shown here:
Tumblr media
Again, this allows me to target a specific field in a specific row.
Oh, I also learned how to clear the input fields after page refresh, but I'm not gonna try to explain it; I've talked long enough.
Ok, that's my rambling. I'm really happy this works and I learned how to do this!
