ok I'm glad you asked this because I've been writing up a whole other post on dio's fashion sense and i wasn't sure how much of the period's fashion trends to explain since I didn't want to make an assumption that nobody knows anything about late victorian fashion. this will be a good reference post for me...and you... and anyone else who wants to use it.
regardless; I hate to say it but the best way to start drawing period clothing is to do a little reading on the fundamentals of [late] victorian dress because it will seriously assist you in the long run, e.g., you won't have to scratch your head and spend time wondering why you keep coming across two different lapel types on tailcoat fashion plates if you're aware that both peak tips and shawl collars were in vogue in the late 1880s and the '90s.
I'll put some basic information that I've collected for myself here so you don't have to go looking for it; I'm going to write this assuming you're a newborn baby deer poking your nose into the victorian era for the first time in your life fully unaware of the customs.
reference links for the wayfarer so you don't have to scroll all the way to the bottom:
Etiquette books. Look for anything written in the 80s/90s; again, period trends change. There's usually always a section on how men should be dressing on different occasions (weddings, funerals, daily casual travel, etc.) in these. In an ideal world one would only have to reference books written/published in London, however I've found that there are many more from US. This is fine though IMO, there was a lot of cross-talk between countries due to the implementation of the telegraph and hence a lot of etiquette standards are "universal" (it's why fashion between EU/US/AU can look pretty similar at the same time--they were all talking to each other). If there's a difference between the "New York" way of doing things and the "London" way of doing things, the authors usually point this out. kind of funny. I love reading these, they're also very good for understanding the general quirks of late Victorian society and how the standards at the time characterize their behavior.

The Met museum online gallery (in general for clothes on mannequins, but they also list an archive of fashion plates here, separated by year. A lot of them are misfiled though so be wary of that)
Alamy website. genuinely one of the most all-encompassing resources I've used, I use it for everything and especially when I'm into period pieces. "boy 188*" "man 1880s portrait" "man 188* suit" etc. you find a lot of illustrations from the time period this way too. it fucking rules. my computer is on the brink of crashing 24/7 because I keep too many alamy tabs open at all times. A lot of really good Vanity Fair illustrations are on here too, just plug it in with a year and see what pops up.
Sites like this (Gentleman's Gazette) with little articles giving a run-down of period clothing can be helpful...... to an extent. idk. I don't really trust them. GG is solid for the most part and so is The Black Tie Blog and Victorian Web, but I've spotted too many errors on other sites to trust anything they say wholesale. Fashion Institute of Technology is worth mentioning as well, though, despite their coverage on men's fashion being pretty brief. Goes by decade, though, with a lot of information on women/children's fashion, too (it's very interesting! I linked their 1880s fashion rundown, highly recommend going through it, especially the Aestheticism segment). TL;DR: My advice when it comes to website hopping is "stick with primary sources".
How to Read a Suit (A Guide to Changing Men’s Fashion from the 17th to the 20th Century) by Lydia Edwards. Look this up on libgen. It's broken down into chunks of decades; REAAALLLYY recommend reading the introduction to "Chapter 4: 1860-1899". Probably the most historically informative consolidation of relevant fashion information in one place. Very interesting writing, pretty short too. If you're gonna read one thing out of this whole list, make it this.
The Dictionary of Fashion History by Valerie Cumming. look this up on libgen. for when you don't understand what some article or book is talking about and google will not give you answers. as it is it wont to do. (could not wrap my head around top frocks until this point; the wikipedia article for it is quite frankly embarrassing.)
here's my google drive of fashion for this time period, I had just been keeping these on local folders but I think drive would be better so I started transferring them here... compiled myself. this is a "work in progress" and will be updated.
I am going to write a bit about men's fashion at the time period under the cut because I think it's important to understand, if you don't know much about the victorian period, that the dress decorum was heavily emphasized and if you wore the wrong ensemble in the wrong setting everyone WOULD think you were ill-bred and would not invite you back into their home again. because just seeing you exist like that was impolite and quite frankly very embarrassing to witness. these resources are great but not if you don't know where and when these guys would be wearing these things... for instance i know the fashion plate archive there are some drawings of men in livery and you may be tempted to put dio in something like this because WOW! they do look kind of cool. with the big brass buttons... but I think he would more readily batter another human being physically than dress up like a butler at a dinner party and get mistaken for a butler. it's the little things.
first thing: you were expected to dress differently for different times of day. This consists of: morning dress, afternoon dress (semi-formal; not really "mandatory" except at special events, like weddings, at least for men), and evening dress (anything past 6 o'clock or "by candle light" is the general rule).
here are overview excerpts from Modern Etiquette in Public and Private published by Frederick Warne and Co. in 1887:
and excerpts from The Complete Bachelor: Manners for Men by Walter Germain, written in 1896:
Cecil B. Hartley states in his Book of Etiquette and Manual of Politeness (1860) that "by dress we show our respect for society at large, or the persons with whom we are to mingle".
He advised men that there were “shades of being ‘dressed;’ and a man is called ‘little dressed,’ ‘well dressed,’ and ‘much dressed,’ not according to the quantity but the quality of his coverings.”
Black was "the" color. As Lydia Edwards writes in How to Read a Suit (2020), "while it is unrealistic to imagine that all men everywhere only wore black, the acceptable color palette was certainly more limited at this point than it had been for the first half of the century. The rising professional middle classes seemed to embrace a centuries-old association with black for certain professions, which perhaps made this an inevitable choice for the evolving and expanding world of work in the nineteenth century."
I'm going to add illustrations now; humbly request you ignore how terrible the paint canvases i threw things in. Things to note moving forward:
there were three different types of shirt collars in vogue at the time: stiff, high stand collars that hugged your neck, wing-tip collars, and one that's closer to the "regular" collars you typically see nowadays (banker collar). don't really see the last one in any of the fashion plates but you do see it in portraits.
Do note that walking sticks were commonplace and in fact expected to be touted around, hence why they (in addition to umbrellas) keep reappearing in the illustrations;

Frock coats were the most "formal" of the daywear. When going through the National Portrait Gallery website you'll notice that most men are wearing either a morning coat or frock coat; the lounge coat was still too informal to be considered for how much money you'd spend to get a photograph taken. Don't you want to look nice?
Lounge suits, again, were the ultimate "informal"; they were viewed with distain by the frock-coat. (here's a good thread on this, actually; i love this fucking guy lol). really, really don't think Dio would be wearing one that often. maybe a double-breasted one? i really think he's too much of a snob to wear what he sees as filthy poor people rags. appearance is everything, etc.

waistcoats you have a lot of freedom/liberty with, at least in regard to design (except for evening waistcoats). different lapel shapes, no lapels... unfortunately shifting into the later decades of the 19th century it was pretty much expected that the fabric of your waistcoat match the fabric of your suit (along with your trousers; called a "ditto suit"). jonathan would conform to this mode IMO, i don't think it stops dio. he has a vision & his waistcoats are likely very extensively detailed. actually I just remembered that we do see one as depicted by araki's tenuous grasp of historical fashion and it is. awesome. i, too, love to wear cravats directly underneath my shirt

Evening dress is (comparatively) much more simple & men had much less artistic freedom in their choice of dress: black tailcoat, white gloves, white tie, waistcoat in either black or white, black button boots. Regardless, it was its own beast in the fact that this was something that you really weren't supposed to dick around with. (Dio would've found a way, but that's a discussion for a post that isn't crashing every 3 minutes.) From A Gentleman by Maurice Francis Egan (1893):
If a young man is invited to a dinner or to a great assembly in any large city, he must wear a black coat. A gray or colored coat worn after six o’clock in the evening, at any assembly where there are ladies, would imply either disrespect or ignorance on the part of the wearer. In most cities he is expected to wear the regulation evening dress, the “swallow-tail” coat of our grandfathers, and, of course, black trousers and a white tie. In London or New York or Chicago a man must follow this last custom or stay at home. He has his choice. The “swallow-tail” coat is worn after six o’clock in the evening, never earlier, in all English-speaking countries.

In the 80s the "dinner jacket" ("tuxedo" in US) was introduced. It was used for more informal occasions.

Outerwear was pretty varied… you can get a pretty wide dynamic of form depending on choice of coat, so keep that in mind. chesterfields tended to be pretty formless, top frocks a bit more fitted. Length/density would change depending on season, too.

everyone would be wearing suspenders, not belts; belts were pretty much only worn with military uniform at this time (except in america)
sweater vests were really only considered sportswear until the first few decades of the 1900s. they would not be wearing these casually under jackets, they'd be wearing waistcoats
button boots were buttoned using a special button hook. video demonstration
NOTE: trousers being "creased" began to be more in vogue in the 90s; this is because they finally invented the trouser press. read article for more information--you sometimes see creases in the 80s, really not before then though. look at how they bunch at the knee (c.1880s)!
When it comes to gloves, different colors denoted different occasions to wear them. In the text screenshots provided in previous sections, it usually states which colors are appropriate for whichever situation. The paragraph I am about to end this on is relatively useless, but I thought I'd include it anyway:

i just want to add some observation about the zoro subplot with hi/yori during wano and what does it means for my fave ship zorobin.
in relation to this amazing analysis by @kathitah
in a surface level this side story many would say is to introduce hi/yori as possible love interest for zoro which i beg to differ bcos all throughout the arc, zoro was never written or shown that he is interested with her.
the zoro-hi/yori here was like zoro-ta/shigi. almost like they were there just to annoy zoro then have him save them in the process. remember punk hazard where zoro still finds tashigi bothersome for her attitude towards him but he still carried her when she got injured.
the only thing i could think of why there's this side story with hi/yori is because it's actually for otoko.
how can this child meet zoro (since they are distant relatives and would be an important but tragic plotline for yasui).
oda have hi/yori to be used as an instrument/medium to have her carry otoko then they were pursued by killer and for zoro to save them. also cos she's momo's sister (kozuki clan, oden's kid, you know for the enma sword in replacement of ryuma's)
zoro met otoko (somewhat tying a loose end of meeting your long lost relative - unknowingly by both parties) then the heartbreaking scene of finding out the truth about the rotten smile fruits and seeing yasui be tortured and died. zoro of course clearly got enraged about it.
after the sh saved otoko, the person that always took care of otoko afterwards is robin.
robin here showing that she cared for otoko and was fond of her and almost shown like a mother to her through these shots.
see robin's kimono for the progression of time, 1st checkered white+purple combo when sh saved toko before the onigashima raid. 2nd the one in the circle window that kimono she wore during the celebration when she also sneaked to see the poneglyph. 3rd kimono the pink one when they were discussing about what she discovered at the end of wano.
before they raided onigashima, all the sh reunited in the forest and zoro was given with enma. you can see robin in the background always carrying toko, sleeping in her arms.
during and post celebration, robin's always with toko. watching her sleep, holding her hand, being with her all the time like she's her daughter.
if you are not familiar with this anime you can bet if you ask nonwatcher to show the pics above that robin acts like a mother to toko.
also robin saved toko previously as well.
and id like to point out that among the kiddos in this arc with an exception with momo. luffy and nami is shown to be fond of otama (ace connection right there) then zoro + robin is shown to be more with otoko (yasui's kid whom he befriends with and they were distant relatives).
we saw zoro by the end of wano arc visited yasui's grave paying respect to him as someone who he'd met early on this arc and probably treat him as a friend (indirectly as relatives).
he asked otoko and she replied they were laying flowers which sparked an interest in him.
who's that nakama that is associated with flowers??? he is thinking about robin. the only person he knows that loves laying flowers to dead characters (flashback to ryunosuke during zou arc)
and when hi/yori came to this scene he is not reacting (is it bcos he is not interested or maybe he's a bit disappointed it was not the real big sis here - aka robin).
zoro also has a soft spot for toko, in this scene he's smiling about her prayers and her laugh. then whenever hi/yori is saying something his response was short and stern. you can even tell that he only perks up talking to her in this episode when he is talking about enma (obligatory interaction as it was her dad's sword).
in my opinion, the whole thing with hi/yori is just surface level cos if you watched closely it's really about zoro's connection to otoko/yasui (distant relations) and enma (cos you know its important that zoro will have 3 swords).
hi/yori is there to serve that damsel in distress trope. after being saved the damsel will develop a crush/interest with the savior. a common trope in stories that can indicate romance. this trope was also shown during other arcs but these instances are used by oda not for romance but only for plot and for our main characters to gain something. to have his mc saved someone then the plot A will go to plot B and for oda to used later on as he's nearing ending OP soon enough.
1. in dressrosa with sanji/viola. sanji always simps with beautiful women. saving women is his act of chivalry. after sanji saved viola, she manipulated him bcos she was working under doffy at that time but viola joined the bad guys to save her family. sanji is very perceptive of women still saves her knowing her connection with doffy. then after this viola eventually warms up to him and always blush whenever sanji holds her hands, hugs her etc... can be inferred that she starts crushing on him.
we learned she has clairvoyance and bcos of this when sanji learned from her that the ships in trouble with nami/chopper/brooke in it decided to go and save them. resulting for the SH to be separated. in relation to the whole cake island arc where sanji got a 2nd back story.
2. in fishmen island shirahoshi/luffy. the mermaid princess being targeted and luffy took responsibility in protecting/saving her. shirahoshi is very timid and shy and a cry baby.
and shirahoshi was revealed as one of the ancient weapons that can control sea kings. she will have a big role in the last big battle/war as we are now entering the last leg of OP. she will have a role in it. oda will revisit this one soon.
3. luffy/hancock - im not saying boa cannot defend herself but luffy protected her secret then she developed her deep love for him, so it counts under this trope. we can see all throughout that luffy do not reciprocate boa's feelings for him.
luffy is grateful to her for letting him sneaked into impel down, letting him on her island to trained for 2 yrs but other than that our main MC is not falling into the love thingy. though i can see why people might think that oda is setting up boa as luffy's love interest.
i think luffy will only settle down for a girl that can keep up with his adventurous spirit. and the only character that can keep up with him is nami. boa is just too much into pampering him.
4. zoro carrying tashigi in punk hazard. they already headbutted before. zoro always finds her troublesome as she has the same face with kuina. her strong opinion about him as a swordman and her saying zoro does not deserve to use all those famous swords etc...
in this arc, he lets Tashigi fight Monet but eventually he's the one that finishes monet off. showing us the audience how he'd become stronger as a swordsman. the arc before this is fishman and zoro was not able to showoff that much for his swordsman skill.
so here we have at punk hazard 2 strong swordsman fighting a devil fruit user. tashigi fought monet showing her swordsman skill but not enough to defeat her. then zoro took over giving us a very cool panel of slicing monet in half. letting us know that zoro's training with mihawk for 2 yrs is not for nothing.
he couldn't just let tashigi stay in the lab as the poison gas is reaching the whole lab that would make him as an AS and bad guy. so as a good person he took responsibility for carrying her. once he was reunited with the SH, we even didnt see how he dropped her. we just saw him running besides robin.
in these examples the damsel in distress is used but not in the romantic sense but for the mc to gain something and for the plot to move forward.
now let's go back to where zoro saved hi/yori.
the 1st time he saved her is more for otoko/yasui connection as i already discussed on top.
now the 2nd time he saved her, is for sanji to be jealous of zoro saving a beautiful woman usually his forte. since zoro and her already got acquainted he saved her knowing that she is momo's sister. and to give us a comedy with sanji of course their endless rivalry.
i'd like to point out some cool details in this cover story. this is me over analysing everything of course ahahah
everyone got a map indicating that the sh will be on their seperate missions.
but if you look closely with this in part right here, you have zoro and brook sitting together
brook with a telescope as he's the one that discovered that zoro has a woman sleeping on top of him.
robin at the back of zoro with chopper, interesting placement. zoro facing the other way indicating he'll get lost all the time. even with a map he always lost lol 😂 (lost with another woman) but there's an anchor between him and robin. the string under the butt of zoro connecting to the main anchor below robin. indicating that robin will always anchor him back to the right direction towards her.
chopper so cute looking like a baby. everyone would agree that in the sh crew chopper is the zorobin child/son.
mama/robin teaching son/chopper about the globe. the sun print of zoro's tshirt sun sounds like son.

if you look at zoro, he got those father pose or daddy vibes looking at something that interests them like looking at a magazine/news paper with a hand on their chin.
robin's ass directly in front of the sun/son. mmm... interesting. might hint that zorobin will have an actual son in the future.
now in this chapter toko is the child zoro met. so here chopper represents otoko. and as i discussed above as well robin treats toko like her child.
cool details there's a moss at the bottom of the anchor (moss head 😆).
the dagger on top the globe, zoro losing one sword then gaining a new one.
sanji's shirt purple (enma's color as well as robin's). flower pattern at the back of franky (enma's design are embedded with flowers also robin's motif is flower, hana hana no mi, she loves flowers literally got a flowerbed in the sunny, and her powers - sprouting like flowers, flower petals when it disappeared).
nami's bird with a king's crown. - enma is oden's sword, the late shogun/king of wano.
also can be King and he has wings like a bird the one zoro fought in onigashima.

oda likes to draw from fan requests for cover page. and it is worth noting that he receives tons of requests and he smartly selected a request from a sender name: PURPLE panda.
purple - robin's color.
why crocodile? if you watch alabasta zoro only met him when they were at the casino. they did not fight even once.
crocodile - connected to luffy as he helped him during impel down/marine ford.
and who's other character heavily connected to crocoboy? nico robin, his vice president from baroque works.
and the 6 birds looking very similar to a robin as in the literal bird with the same name as our robin.
quick side analysis for this, as we learned during alabasta as vice president robin almost handled a big chunk for that organization. though crocoboy is the head she is still the one implementing things as croco hiding his identity as the head of baroque works.
and if u remembered when she 1st joined SH she's very inquisitive about zoro asking him directly what's the meaning of his title and him not trusting her that time. and her knowing look while she sat down.
so when they were recruiting for assassins/strong fighters for the organization id like to think that robin also is very on hand who's going to join. and while searching for possible candidates she heard about a pirate hunter from the east blue whose infamous with his demon aura who is very skilled with swords and so called by many as a monster/devil in fighting.
and if you have watched the live action during zoro's introduction a baroque agent tried to persuade him. and the showrunners confirmed that it was a very old concept from oda story to have baroque works recruit zoro. in anime/manga during whiskey peak were zoro killed the baroque works assassins in that whole island he mentioned that the organization tried to recruit him.
so this cover page is really something not just a cool nod to crocoboy but also a zorobin connection. 😉
this is a very long post but even if zoro has this side story including another woman it still always circles back to robin.
wano is a hard watch cos it's very very long just like the whole cake island. the stretch between episodes is almost unbearable.
of course at first as a zorobin shipper my heart deflated seeing episodes for zoro with another woman that could easily be seen as a potential love interest.
but now after reading many theories and analysis and now that i break it down a bit im quite happy that even if some chapters or episodes is him with another woman at the end all clues and subtle hints and symbolism still points to zorobin.

Crafting Wings
I finally remembered today that tumblr is a blog, and that in addition to whatever fandom nonsense I reblog, I can also post bloggy things on it. Obvious, right?
I am making a set of dragon wings for an event coming up in mid-June. They are of course inspired by Simon Snow and will be red dragon wings (though the pattern I bought from them is technically for a wyvern). I'm hoping that posting progress updates here will help me stick to it and actually get it done in time. I'm breaking it down into teeny tiny easy peasy steps and only looking at the very next step to try to keep the overwhelm and executive dysfunction at bay. This is likely to lead me down a path of "If I'd thought about it earlier, I could have..." But you know what? I always end up there anyway.
So first, I spent a long long long long long (long long long...) time trying to decide how to make these wings. I really wanted articulated wings, bonus if I could move them without obviously pushing or pulling or something. But looking at how people had made that happen was overwhelming. They require so much time and skill and I am prone to procrastination and crying and quitting when I mess up. I finally settled on this DIY Mechanical Wing kit by Chimera Wings. That would give me the frame for the wings, but they also have a sewing pattern (with printed AND video instructions) to make the covers for them!

And this is the completed build! I almost didn't post this because I don't like the way I look, but you know what? Fuck that. I built something cool (using very simple, easy-to-follow instructions, sure) and I don't want to have to find a better fancier more flattering way to film that, so. I'm getting over it.
You can tell that I kinda struggle with the wing on my right side. I clearly need to stretch my arms out before wearing these. Truly. I tried it after I stretched and it's no big deal. Or maybe I'll add some sort of pulley after all. (HAH. Like I'll have time for that.)
Otherwise, the kit and wings are fantastic. It was so easy to put together and they feel very cool to wear. I should probably go write them a review...
I didn't actually takes pics of the next step, but I printed out the pattern on regular 8.5x11 paper and taped it together. It... was not very well done, but I'm hoping I got it close enough to not have messed up the pattern dimensions. After taping and then cutting out the completed pattern, I could move on to working with actual fabric!
I'm making a mock-up out of old sheets first because I have never once done any sewing project successfully the first time. I decided to mock-up only one wing instead of both, so this will surely be my downfall when I move onto the real deal.
The next two pictures are the front and back pieces for a single wing. I decided to cut them separately instead of at the same time by folding the fabric in half because every time I do more than one layer at a time, at least one of the layers comes out real fucked up. I blame being a lefty in a right-handed world. Scissors are of the devil.
The next step was to make buttonholes that are actually strap holes. I have a little baby basic machine, and it has some limitations. I discovered one of these limitations during my buttonhole test runs. As you can see, the machine-provided "buttonhole" stitches are just... lacking. I messed with a screw that controls the length of these stitches, but for some reason it can only be used to balance out the stitch lengths, not make them overall longer or shorter. I have no control for generally change stitch length. I only have the options presented to me on my stitch chooser knob. Alas, I have less than optimal buttonholes.

Finally, I gave up and balanced the stitch lengths and just went with it. When I do the real deal, I will likely go use my friend's much fancier machine. For the mock-up, this is sufficient. The next three pictures show, with increasing zoom and blurriness, the completed buttonholes.
I am intentionally using very bright, contrasting thread so that when I inevitably fuck up, I can hopefully see the point of fuck up more clearly so as to rectify it on my next attempt.
And that brings us up to speed! Next Step: Pin the pieces together. That's it. That's the whole step. How many days will it take to overcome executive dysfunction and do it? Only time will tell.

"add something, if youd like" ok, here is something i used a throwaway account to comment on the Double MV. i didnt reread so i didnt remember anything about it sorry but there probably is mention about internalized ableism. also personal experience. its kinda shaped like a rant
posting it here now that i came out about being plural here. yeah.

I keep finding myself wanting to comment something under this video, but I know I'll say stuffs about myself that I feel would be unsafe to share using my main so I'm using this throwaway account to do it instead 😔
I just want to say that I'm so grateful that Mikoto and John (and maybe other alters in their system too? saying this just in case) were ever written. Being a system who had just discovered that only over a year ago, I can almost see myself, no, I can almost see *us* in every part of their story up until now. And in a way, I feel like I've also... grown with them? If that makes sense?
I have been following MILGRAM for quite a while, enough to be there when MeMe was just released. Back then, I still thought that I was certainly a singlet (didn't have DID), despite how one of my alters - I will refer to her as my sister from now - showed up pretty regularly at the time. That's why when I watched MeMe, I remember thinking to myself, "oh shit, this guy's just like me, and because [insert internalized ableism here] I'm saying he guilty then." But then we all know what's got confirmed 😂 Funniest thing is, a short while before that, I also came to term about being a system. Dammit, to think about it, it felt like a second confirmation 😭😭😭😭
Now that I have accepted who we really are, the release of Double and their second voice drama feels exceptionally special to me, as the host of our system. John and Mikoto's situation right now really reminds me of us last year. My sister and I specifically, respectively. At that time, I tried hard to deny the fact that I am not alone in my head, and that we are entirely separate people. It took me a while (with a few tarot spreads. fuck. I'm a Mikoto kinnie now) to know that we actually are... and some actual, honest conversations to know that she actually loved me, rather than wanting to harm me... Yeah. Yeah. You see what I'm talking about? That's why I'm really rooting for Mikoto and John to have better communication... Ah, maybe if Mikoto watched "his" own second trial MV, he would understand...
That being said, I'm still not sure on what to vote... When I first watched Double and listened to the second voice drama, I thought to myself, ouch, ok, guilty because John clearly seems to be the alter who knows more right now and that would keep him fronting more to interrogate. But after a while, my opinion... changed? I don't want Mikoto to be affected too much from the verdict and maybe going dormant because of that. John maybe still there for the interrogation but fuck, I don't think he's ever been without Mikoto for a long time and I'd hate to see his heart breaks. Maybe innocent is the better solution after all for the whole system, as it might soothe Mikoto's mood and his mindset. I also trust that MILGRAM's writer team know what they are doing and therefore would not "kill off" John. Maybe they will just let him be inactive for a while if they are voted innocent, given that he's finally satisfied with our decision...
(Yes, I do know innocent = forgiven and guilty = not forgiven and I'm deciding while knowing that. I'm just calling them innocent and guilty because I'm more used to it while speaking in English.)
Hmm, that was a longer rant than I expected. I don't know how to conclude really, so I'll say something that would sound entirely unrelated 😔 If I remember correctly, prisoners can hear us audiences right? If that's really true, I just want to scream to Mikoto and John that it's 100% ok to be a system! To not be alone inside your mind! To exist alongside another person in your system and love them! It's ok to just be yourselves! And please please please fucking find a way to communicate with each other!!!
Once again, thank you MILGRAM for letting them exist... I really hold them so dearly in our heart...

hi! why do you like LLS and Gengetsu so much? ^^
Okay so! I've already answered the question about the character of gengetsu in this tumblr post and this youtube video which yeah go check them out if you want to discover her and learn more about her personality, lore, behind the scenes design choices etc!
But if i were to answer this post, without paraphrasing anything ive said about her ? I'll have to talk about myself and the person i am, not her, to answer you properly.
We're about to get sad real fast this is an extremely vulnerable moment for me but everything about what makes gengetsu special to me IS vulnerable (which is why i never talked about it before but nows the time methinks)
1 - I'm also very reclusive and a bit of a dreamer
Dreams always are fascinating to me. Ever since i was small i'd get so caught up in my imagination i'd forget about the world around me. To extreme extents, may i add. Tripping over myself or running into poles may seem like exaggeration but it's not, i legitimately got sent to the nurse's multiple times because of it. My parents would get called to the teacher's office every year without fail because "nocti isn't there in class. Her mind isn't there at all, we're concerned about how well she'll perform". I did perform good, for some magical reason! But i was barely there.
My mind is also very active at night. i tend to remember most of my dreams, which are all memorable in some kind of way. I always get excited to find out what i'll get to see when i'm going to sleep. I consider this some kind of entertainment! Sometimes I'll get dreamless nights, yes, and i wake up disappointed and just hope for better programming the next time i sleep. And the secluded dream world aspect, the whole "this is my place just for me" thing she has with Mugetsu also overlaps with what makes Flandre special to me, by the way. I'm also a little bit of a shut in and i like to bury myself into a pile of stuffed animals that take three quarters of the space on my bed, i have fairy lights, i like to be comfy. it's my little safe bubble. If you've seen my plush unboxing videos, like the custom gengetsu and the clownpiece i have, you'll know what my safe haven looks like! It's nice to put myself on my bed with my cat, burrowed under blankets and stuffed animals, and let my mind peacefully wander wherever it wants to.
But yeah! This makes her being a dream denizen and the close knit purpose of her dream world really cool to me!
2- I have a similar personality.
I'm a little naive, believe it or not! It's probably another reason why i don't open up like this very often. You could tell me most things and i'd probably take them at face value. I'm just a little clueless. I'm curious, I'm cheerful, a little chaotic sometimes, well, if you follow me and my content you probably are aware of all that.
I'm quick to protect the ones i care about. I'm usually the one who takes care of bad eggs in my friend circles. I'm not very confrontational, but when it comes to it, i'm somehow good at it…?
But did you know at the same time i'm a HUGE crybaby? … I should not tell you this. WHY am i telling you this. ever since i was small i was always prone to the Weeeeeehhhhhh it's not faiiiiiir weeeeeh. It's not a bratty "things arent going my way" kind of WEEEH it's always been a "i am being wronged and i don't have the inner cool to express it" kind of WEEEH. But it WAS excessive. All it'd take was for my childhood friend (love you bestie btw) to get tiger face paint on and tell me she was gonna eat me for me to think it was real and start wailing.
You know who else breaks into a frustration tantrum when you defeat her after lotus land story? You know, the stage where she hasn't done a single thing wrong to warrant reimu and marisa's intervention? YEAH.
3 - I, too, am an older sister.
This is probably the most central aspect that draws me to her, positive sisterhood is my favorite trope because it calls back to how I once was.
I am the first born of my family, and i have four younger siblings, my uncles had children of their own which amounts to four little cousins. Counting me, thats nine children.
I was between the ages of 3 and 13 when they were all born.
I was always quick to get attached to them, I'd always show them cool older kid stuffs like showing my megabloks dragons collection to my infant brother who could not even sit yet. I gave it my all. And that applied outside of my family too i was everyones government assigned big sister as soon as i became verbal. We have vhs footage of 5 year old me at my mom's lord of the rings stage play (2003) cheering up a crying kid from my group because she had stage fright. I ripped that digitally for preservation so maybe one day i'll show you some bits of that it was neat.
Sadly it didnt last long and ive lost contact with two siblings and three cousins, because of adults taking sides in major arguments for good. I'll never see them again. I guess if you really wanna psychanalyze me there, little Gengetsu here resonates with my memories of before bonds began to shatter, you know?
The family kinship she has with Mugetsu is everything I wished I could've strived for but due to reasons outside of my control it never came to be, so that's why she's so special. She reminds me of the little nocti who still had her heart full.

I saw your list of things that you'd fix in Sparklecare and it was very interesting, especially the color saturation thing since I never realized how it didn't make sense that the in-universe characters couldn't see it.
this might be a weird question but are you planning on a story rewrite on a site like ao3/something like it (I think I remember reading a post that said something about it but I wasn't sure if it was serious or not)? I'm very curious about how your rewrite would go because the critiques I read in your post were very in-depth and made the characters not seem as surface-level. Plus I think it'd be cool to see a more novel-style version of the story
I'd thought about it with PD Foxx and their system (Sparklecare be damned I want my DID rep in that universe), plus just some AU versions of the already-existing mountain of characters I have and adore.
It'd probably use the eyestrain stuff to be representative of a character's perception of the world or the DID innerworld. I'm trying to pick apart my own history and experience for what to add and what not to for simplicity's sake. (I.e. Not wanting to write about our dubiously-RAMCOA stuff and making that too public in this kind of project, but still writing what we know, like CSA and living with that as an adult.)
Another possibility was using eyestrain as a shorthand for PD (Who has BPD and ASPD, but mainly holds ASPD traits. The name "PD" is short for Pan Dora but also can read as "Personality disorder" Foxx. Name is a play on "Pandora's Box" and the feeling of discovering trauma being like opening that. Also the "Foxx" part is intentionally misleading on their species, which is a mix of spotted hyena, maned wolf, and aardwolf, similar to how there's many misconceptions about trauma survivors but the reality is more complex.) splitting if this was drawn. Idolized characters are so vibrant while demonized characters are extremely dull. I also don't really have a style that fits this kind of storytelling. (If you see my kofi doodles of PD concepts, you'll see what I mean.)
I had the idea of opening an ask blog, but I'm not sure if I'll have the energy to manage it between job work, photosensitive-despair work, and the fact that I wouldn't do art for it making it less appealing. My plan was doing a in-character blog instead of the traditional ask blog due to likely lack of asks. Formatted like a journal and personal blog shared by a system.
I'm not quite done building PD's system. I'm waiting for inspiration to hit me like a car as I dance in the street to try to make it happen. I know the types of system members I want, since it is highly based of my system when I first found them back in... I think 2019? 2020? Wild that long has passed, and things have changed a lot since then.
I do plan for the ableism to be more realistic in medical settings. Doctors and nurses generally don't set out to kill people, so there isn't a Sparklecare going on in the background. Therapists might completely ignore outcries of abuse or gaslight patients. More grounded shows of ableism than outright murder and verbal abuse (Which to be clear can and does happen. Disabled people are often seen as better off dead and sometimes parents/carers do kill their already born disabled children/charge) always. I plan for mine to focus more on therapy which is what Kittycorn's South Esteam offshoot was/is.

What's your favorite bit of worldbuilding you did this year for TiWTW?

Goddddd the downside of having not written/published MOST of the meatiest plot is that every single cool thing I could talk about is spoilers (sobbing)
BUT I do have an answer ... if I stretch the meaning of the word "worldbuilding" a little bit ... and honestly who cares I doubt most people reading it will find or remember this information. Lol. so LET'S go answer under cut.
For this to make sense, there are two main players from the Serpentine War era I need to speak to here:
the Clockmaker, owner of the mansion through his wife's lineage, alluded to in Chapters 18 + 19 so far, as well as alluded to as the man in the family portrait repeatedly mentioned throughout (notably Chapters 3, 12, and 19)
AND
the as-of-yet unnamed Elemental Master who the ninja learn about through their writings, as mentioned in Chapters 14, 17, 18, and 19.
Their first interactions with each other are cordial: the Clockmaker gives this EM a guest room to stay in, they help him and the rest of the Shuravansha clan build secret hideouts in their mansion to hide refugees of the war and fortify their defenses for any subsequent invasions. All well and good, nothing to write home about. And initially, that was the extent of their dynamic. They're politely distant with each other, both working to prevent the Woodlands from being attacked by Serpentine again, and then things go south for all of them when [REDACTED FOR SPOILERS].
But then. I thought about it.
The EM reveals in their diary that they've secretly brought Serpentine straight into the heart of a clan still devastated by the damage from a previous Serpentine attack. Several people, the Clockmaker included, had their loved ones injured or killed in that attack, and this person's brought more of them to their doorstep. These specific Serpentine are working as spies to end the war, of course, but ... regardless, how well does that go over if their presence is discovered?
Furthermore, there's the Clockmaker. I won't get into what he's doing, but he's getting up to some things behind closed doors that, for all his good intentions, presents a threat not just to the EM and their informants but potentially to everyone in the Woodlands, if he's not careful. This EM is willing to let sleeping beasts lie usually, but there's a little too much on the line right now to let it slide so easily.
And both of these people, for different reasons, are intelligent, guarded, stubborn and hyper-perceptive.
So of course they would learn each other's secrets. That politeness immediately morphs into an ugly tension delicately sustained by the weight of each other's secrets, a mutually assured destruction of sorts where they wait to see who's right. Until the very end, where they both meet their end with the feeling that they were both wrong.
I felt like this would be a beautiful way to flesh out their dynamic and add some meaning to their roles in how the mansion falls, and it's waaaay more fun to write. I have a whole little snippet dedicated to this and I'll probably post it to TIWTW whenever I get to revealing what the Clockmaker was up to~

In a crazy twist of events, got to see Riccardo Sinsi perform Mistoffelees TWICE this weekend! He is, of course, an incredibly expressive Misto and throws himself into the role 200%.
Since I was sitting right in the center at this show I get the Stare Down during Naming of Cats and once again is he a Hissy Boy! You starting staring at me first, Riccardo!
(Also I adore the Vienna Makeup but Sinisi looks particularly gorgeous in his)

Dominick Hees once again Gives His All as Tugger (he only gets more and more feral as the week goes on and it is a delight). During his solo during Alt Deuteronimus he goes *up* instead of down and his voice is particularly tender. Auler holds the High Note So Long and So Sweetly. Again just the sweet relationship between these too-Aulerstrap tilting his head when he hears Tugger and shushing Mungojerrie and Rumpelteazer so he can focus on Tugger being Serious for Once--!
Munkustrap's Pekes and Pollicles Holds My Heart. Aulerstrap's finger wiggles as he frantically beckons them to Bark Louder!!
Watching Sinisi softly blow out that Spolight and watching the Stars roll back as well 🥺🥺 (Tugger thinks this is the most Amazing thing he has ever seen)

An absolute honor to see Barbara Obermeier perform Grizabella one more time -- both renditions of "Memory" brought the house down. Just the most exquisite voice. Her Grizabella is worn down my life and experience, and she brings great pathos but also Hope to this role. Loved seeing her and her well deserved ovation.
Tommie Luyben being a Delight as Carbucketty and Jo Lucy as Jenny!
This was Meghan Peploe-Williams Last Show and she was very emotional during the curtain call. I've been able to see her several times and my *God* is she good!! Definitely a stand out dancer and a delight to watch as a Cat. Obviously this show meant a great deal to her even in the short time she was part of this cast and everyone was very sweet with her at the closing.
The audience was absolutely on *fire* for this show. Would not stop applauding during the finale--standing ovation all the way until the music stopped (I was so hoping the kitties would come back out but nope)
So magical to sit down to watch this show after assuming in April I would Never See It Again. Still riding that incredible high.
(This was also the show when I did a Stage Door Reconnaissance and discovered how lovely the cast is when meeting fans.)
Probably more I'm forgetting but I'll add more as I remember. Beautiful, unforgettable night.

Okay, so the film geek in me woke up, and rather than working I have been going through my Letterboxd to see what film vibes Bad Idea 2.0 gives off. And I have a few candidates.
The first scene that triggered my film geek senses was the scene where we see Aleksi’s doppelgänger. For some weird reason I felt like Aleksi was giving big Cesare from The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari vibe.
The whole video has a bit of an expressionism cinema vibe, for example, the use of shadows. I'll add a link at the end of the post to the famous Abduction scene, it is a great example of what you can do with shadows to make the scene look eerie and it was done very well in Bad Idea 2.0.
I think the obvious one here is Us. The whole doppelgangers thing. "The good" and "the bad" version of them. From the Aleksi's doppelgänger, we get that they would want to harm the "original" versions of them and it is truly giving the Us vibes more than probably anything else.
And now for some stereotypes. The thing that is a big in horror movies is the use of mirrors or reflection.
Already, the first scene in and we see Joel's reflection moving on its own. The most notorious movie to mention here, I think, is Evil Dead II where the doppelgänger leans out of the mirror and starts choking the main character.
Another stereotype that has always been around for a long time but lately, because of the development of technology, has become even more and more scary, is the feeling of being watched or stalked. Again, there are many movies and TV shows with such premise that it’s hard to pick one. The first one that popped into my mind was Scream when Drew Barrymores character gets a call and she becomes aware that she is being watched.
(Using these frames to illustrate the distress of understanding that you are being watched)
And to wrap it up, all in all, the video has The Shining feel around it. The most obvious part - we got hotel scenes! That alone is a bid to The Shining. But the way I feel about this video is that it also deals with some sort of personality crisis, the feeling of something or someone else overtaking you. The Shining deals with the "all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy" thing that drives Jack into the madness, as well it also has the use of mirrors and reflection, most famously the scene where Sally discovers redrum=murder. The Shining is THE horror film and I feel like if band doesn't have a The Shining inspired video, then are you even doing the band thing right?
Anyway, I have watched too many movies that I don’t even remember what the half of them were about, so if anyone wants to add something or disagree with me, feel free to do so!

After finishing Mitsuhide's route for the second time, I decided to try and play Kenshin's. Which I started yesterday. I made this decision because Kenshin seems like an interesting character and he's probably one that even after two years of playing the game, I still know barely anything about. Like I know that he's the opposite of Chevalier in which when he falls in love with MC, he becomes more gentle. I know somewhat about him having a pet bunny. And I know the stupid reasons that historians assumed he hates women and came up with that theory that he was a woman. I also understand that Kenshin is described as yandere.. But if I could survive Mitsuhide's romantic route, I can survive Kenshin.
Who the fuck am I kidding. I made an entire post complaining about it.
But that's as far as my knowledge goes. Well, I also know that he has trauma or something and that he randomly assaults his employees as stated by Sasuke on more than one occasion but whatever. I can't remember what I thought of Kenshin back in 2018 when I first downloaded the game. I honestly don't even know if I acknowledged Kenshin back then. All I remember is the part in the prologue where Mai saves Nobunaga and then the part in chapter 1 of Nobunaga's route where he tries to use Mai as a cup. Dont- dont ask.
But after redownloading the game two years later? I still didnt care about Kenshin lol- It wasnt until I discovered the fandom side of things that I really started to pay attention to him. And the more I saw, the more intrigued I got. So now, here I am, playing Kenshin's route. I only started it yesterday so I cant say much but.. My opinion of him has already changed multiple times. And I dont know if thats a good sign since my opinions of the others remained mostly consistent til later on-?
Currently what I've noticed is that 1.) Kenshin does not seem to hate women. He was just raised on misconceptions and doesn't seem to have an interest in romance. Which- fair. And 2.) Kenshin reminds me of Mitsuhide in an odd way? As in the fact that he's telling Mai to live her life how she wants, to not let others dictate how she lives. He tells her to be herself. Not the whole he constantly teases her for his own amusement and for a reaction and makes her want to scream. Not that at all, I dont even know if Kenshin has a sense of humor. Leaning towards no. But, what he said is very similar to what Mitsuhide said in his route, except it was later on. Around the undercover mission part. Kenshin literally says this shit in chapter two, so mans is movin' a lil fast but thats alright.
Thats at least my current opinion. Kenshin seems to put up a front that he enjoys battle and bloodshed, but deep down he feels a sense of duty to protect others. Even if he doesn't acknowledge it himself, thats what Im noticing and thats the direction my brain went in. Which I guess adds up to the whole "he's secretly gentle" ending? Idk. But I currently have no problems with Kenshin's route. I actually find him to be a bit amusing rather than scary or anything negative. Barely one chapter in and I was already laughing at how stupid he can be.
Im not sure if I'll make another post like this as I play more. Or maybe I'll make an entire post explaining my opinion once I finish his route? Dunno yet.

5 - current favorite mod
i've actually discovered so many great ones for ts2 recently! i don't remember most off the top of my head but the ones i can say im super impressed with are the favorite color mod and its add-ons that make various objects different colors depending on what sim likes (sorry i cant link it because im on my phone and its a bit hard lol but if anyone needs any links i'll find them!) i was also blown away with some other things like: the asexual trait, the mod that lets you pick sim's reproduction options, werewolves get matching hair colors when they turn, pick your wand, spectral cat breeds, and of course the overlays like body hair and tattoos!!! i haven't even tried most of them yet but just the fact that you can do so many new things in this game are super exciting lol. i also feel the same way about ts1, there's even less mods of course but whenever there are new gameplay features i find it so sexc even if i never play it lol just reading about it and seeing pics feels like being reborn

15 - how many hours have you spent playing the sims?
more than i could ever recall, earliest proof of me playing is dated either 2004 or 2005 i don't remember but either way i have been hooked since really badly. i assume my most played game is either ts2 or ts3, i played ts1 a lot as well ofc bc it's my favorite game and as for ts4 hasn't been as much but i did have at least two families i played for two generations so i think that's decent. the game i think i like the most in terms of playability is ts3, aside from the lagging rip
17 - in your gameplay, are you more task-driven or story-driven?
im gonna be honest with you. because of adhd i really need to feel motivated to do something esp play something so whether i play a story or just for the fun of it i need to also set gameplay goals so it's complicated lol and it also means i generally play with a story in mind and that keeps me going. and i love love love legacy challenges

What do you prefer as far as reading fics? For an already completed fic would you rather the author: post the whole fic at one time so you can binge all the chapters or read it at your own pace, or space out posting the chapters so you have something to look forward to a couple days a week?
Hi hi! This is one of those things that I think everyone has different thoughts and feelings on, for completely valid reasons. And honestly, whatever an author prefers is the best way for the author to post, you know?
It’s just a function of the AO3 sort feature that fics that are updated get bumped to the top of the search results list every time an author adds a chapter, and for a lot of authors this is a definite benefit. It helps grow their audience from people searching for what the author invested a lot of time in writing, you know? So I totally get why authors would choose to post serially, even if they’ve completely written the work already.
I am not that patient as a writer. I don’t post works in progress because it just doesn’t work with my writing process. I always go back and edit earlier parts of the story as I work out the later parts, so posting as I write is just not possible for me anyway. And once I finish writing, I have no patience for stringing out posting (I tried once, it was a disaster, I got anxious, and just posted the rest of the thing within days lol).
So I get why authors would make either of these choices personally for themselves. But as a reader? I always prefer to read completed stories. Because again, that’s just how my brain works. I will not remember details from a story if I have to keep putting it down for a week or two at a time (or longer). Especially if I’m also reading other things in between, and also trying to write my own things. My brain just can’t hold that many storylines at one time lol.
(for reference, the only reasons I’m surviving Dracula Daily are because a) it’s daily, or near enough, and b) i’ve read dracula probably 30 times already so my brain isn’t likely to forget details in between updates)
So I see a lot of fics I really want to read, that look intriguing as authors post updates week after week, but I’ll almost always wait until the story is complete before starting reading. Or I’d have no hope of being able to follow the story.
So really, it’s entirely up to the author! If they want to take advantage of the AO3 sort system, and they’re patient enough to wait for their posting schedule before updating, then more power to them! But I’ll wait until I can binge the whole thing, thanks. But again, that’s just me! I know a lot of readers who love the constant updates, even if it’s just a wait of a few days for an author stringing out posting a completed fic, and those folks would likely appreciate serial posting! And the rest of us (when we’re eager to read the story based on the concept/plot we’ve seen in promos) are happy to wait. :)
(the only thing I'd personally beg authors to do is to make a post alerting folks like me that the work is complete. Just make a new post, not the one with 30 reblogs with each chapter linked in a thread below it, or not just the final chapter's post, but a tidy one with a summary, maybe a teaser, and a link that leads to chapter one, because I love promoting completed fics! and I almost never reblog wip posts because again, I lack all patience and want to read the whole thing, and it's one way i resist hobbling myself when it comes to reading fic... i make it easier for myself however i can. and i personally find I abandon wip's that I start, because I'll pick up on the next chapter, have no idea what's going on, and have to read back again, and I just don't have time to reread all the chapters again every time a fic updates, so i just stop reading... which makes me sad. so personally I'll choose to wait. But I've discovered a lot of the time I'll see the same update post again and not register that it's announcing the story is now complete, because I've seen it so many times over weeks/months and mentally filed it as "wip mittens danger zone do not read" and I just... don't see the completion notice! but again, this is just me, and I have no idea how other readers feel about any of this, and really it's up to the author entirely how they prefer to post and promote their own works... readers will still find our stories regardless <3)

i don't know much about john sebastian humanly, i only know his music but yeah from what i heard him say between two songs during his live concerts, he indeed seemed very kind and sweet! now that we talked about it, i'll probably do some research on him just by curiosity
i had never heard about dresden dolls so i listened to a few songs and it's very cool!! sounds like something we could call "circus rock" if that makes sense haha they reminded me a bit of a french band named les rita mitsouko, i think you can like them!!
do you like winter and cold? personally i don't. i live in paris in france and some weeks ago we had temperatures around 0°C but it's been more like 10°C this past few days. some days it rains all day, some days it's sunny
recently i discovered i really really liked the sound of (mostly jazz) trombone, it's a very deep and soft sound and i like the glissandos it can do! i don't know how to play it at all, i've tried once and it's difficult :^) + it's an heavy instrument, i didn't think it was that heavy, it surprised me at first! and you? what's your favorite instrument?

Circus Rock is a perfect way to describe The Dresden Dolls haha. They even have a spinoff, Evelyn Evelyn, which leans even more into the circus aesthetic.
I checked out two of Les Rita Misouko’s albums (their debut and Acoustiques) and I really liked them! They have such a unique sound, I’ve listened to quite a bit of new wave/post punk but I don’t think I’ve heard anything like them! I think the only thing that comes close would be Bowie’s Berlin trilogy. I especially liked the song La fille venue du froid, it almost reminded me of The Overload by Talking Heads (maybe not exactly in sound but in the overall “vibe” of it)
I don’t mind a little cold weather, but when it’s rainy and cold it’s the worst. I think the best time of year is when it’s on the cusp between fall and winter, where it’s a little on the colder side, but not freezing.
Trombones have such a nice sound! I used to have a friend who played the trombone, and I thought it was so cool. My favorite instrument is definitely the violin. It’s such a versatile instrument, it has applications in almost every genre. I think that the violin is an underutilized instrument in rock music (or at least rock made after the 70’s). If I had the time, I’d love to learn how to play it :]
I have a cat named Leo! She’s a bit older (around 13 if I remember correctly?) but she’s such a sweetheart :] How about you, do you have any pets? :D
