Chapter 9.
Reading this chapter another time, then and now, left me somber. It starts out joyful with our favorite monk's parents' meeting. His father, Guangrui, gained a blessing to go to the capital for examination and job; getting first in rank and personally being praised by the Tang Emperor. Spent 3 days on horseback going around the capital. Then we're introduced of Xuanzang's mother, Yin Wenjiao(referred to as just Lady Yin later on), who sees a handsome, smart, and high ranking official during his 3 day parade; throws down a embroidered ball at her future husband knocking off his black cap. Though I like to think she went: "YOU!" pointing at him from the tower and aimed for his head. Really making sure that this guy's dense and doesn't get a hint. Actually, does that mean she technically proposed to him? Anyways they get married, move to city for Guangrui job, and picked up his mother along the way. Even saved a golden carp and sending it back to its river! Guangrui mother gets sick and forced to stay at a rent house. A little bump in the road, but that's fine since the couple can retrieve her in the fall.
Then Liu Hong appears captivated by Lady Yin's beauty and rips the young couple future away by killing Guangrui and stealing his identity. Forcing Lady Yin to comply to his demands. They dump Gaungrui's body in the river where thanks to saving, not actually a carp, his body and soul is preserved until his is avenged by his murderers.
Lady Yin is miserable in her situation, wishing to eat Liu Hong body and sleep on his skin. But kept her dark thoughts to herself and didn't enact on them; as she was pregnant with our monk! But not happy news as Bastard Liu Hong will kill our future protag the second he gets the chance. Thanks to divine intervention and luck, Lady Yin manages to send the baby away. By writing a letter in her own blood and biting off one of his toes before sending him off on river; tied by her garment before found by a monk.
So our monk, nicked River Float, and then called Xuanzang once he turned eighteen and joined the monetary; he learned of his orgins and set off to right wrongs. He succeeded, reuniting his mother, who helped him get in contact with grandfather. Who later just destroyed Liu Hong in a brutal fashion. I strongly don't think Xuanzang was there to see that part as he was probably with his mother, who already tried to kill herself once saved. She does it again after they toss Liu Hong's heart and liver into the river, seeing her husband body floated up. Who comes back to life!
Happiness as Xuanzang's family all together again, his father joins the Emperor court, and he continues with his studies in the Way. Except for Lady Yin, who succeeds in taking her life. Bittersweet ending.
Now for my notes and theories. You cannot tell me that this boy wasn't bullied by his peers for being an orphan. He had nothing, no name, probably no friends, and put all his efforts into studying the scripture as a source of comfort or even proving his worth to be there. (I could ramble more on his upbringing and the similarites with him and Wukong's background, but that could be for another day)
Besides the luck and divine intervention(and Sha Wujing eating his past lives), another clue that Xuanzang might be special is when he cured his grandmother blindness by licking her eyelids.
Or the pain and guilt that despite everything he did failed to save his mother.
But that's enough rambling from me for now.

for the chara ask.. rosa 👀? and i also cannot resist putting marius in here too
rosa, tot:
who? | only know their name | loathe | ugh | overrated | indifferent | dead | alive | just okay | cute | badass | my baby | hot | want to marry | favorite
literally where do i even start. i love her so much that she's legit like, one of my fave fictional female charas!!! i love how sensible and logical she is, and how kind and sensitive she is too. those two sounds like opposites of each other but she balances having both traits so well. i just think she is such a great otome protagonist and if any company wants to try and write a good "self insertable" protag who is both convincing and cute they should look to her. loml 🧎
marius von hagen
who? | only know their name | loathe | ugh | overrated | indifferent | dead (his mom) | alive (him) | just okay | cute | badass | my baby | hot | want to marry | favorite
he's a funny funky guy!!! he's my blorbo in law cus both you and angel (my other friend) like him. so i kind of get appreciation through osmosis. tbh i dont have a lot to say about him bc i think his character as a standalone is simple, but when he's in a group setting? i think that shines the most. i actually talked w angel a bit about this but we were discussing how vyn is afraid of losing rosa emotionally while marius is afraid of losing rosa physically. i read his personal card where he gets a panic attack after rosa gets kidnapped and that ending was literally..... the most poetic shit i've ever read. LIKE. his personal story and card just super appeals to the poet / artist in me bc the twist in words, the symbolism, the rose and the snake that takes turns to guard each other.... im screaming and wailing and throwing up. vyn could NEVER tbh, he's very deliberate and his acts of affection still has an underlying feeling of wanting to impress rosa at all times and to show his heart to her, but w marirosa it literally feels like they're romantic soulmates bc of the writing. does that make sense? like it feels so organic and romantic in a way vyn's measured actions and words can't replicate. i went feral at this part

for the character asks vyn diluc lumine and kaeya!!
HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE thank you for giving me the chance to talk about my blorbos!!!
vyn richter:
who? | only know their name | loathe | ugh | overrated | indifferent | dead | alive | just okay | cute | badass | my baby | hot | want to marry | favorite
yeah i bolded the who? one don't worry about it!! /j anyways yeah i Like this man a normal amount its not like ive written sm threads on him already yeah. i'm completely normal
except i'm NOT
i started out thinking my fave would be artem cus vyn seemed too pretentious for me at first and i still have trauma from the last time i liked a white haired and golden eyed guy in otome cus that bitch disappointed me so much i literally can't even look at him without going >:T
he's such a cool character to me, i love how contradictory he is while being completely consistent characterization wise. by contradictory i don't mean that he doesn't say what he mean or doesn't mean what he says, but the way he views himself vs how he views rosa vs how he views other people (derogatory) is quite ironic. i love how he loves rosa because she's beautiful both inside and out, in the sense that she is straight laced, honest and not mired with existential or moral complexities that stop her from being kind, realistic and faithful to her values. (in fact, when facing those moral complexities, her true character shines more because of the way she isn't stagnated by indecision or analysis-paralysis. but that's another talk for another day i could literally go on and on about her)
i like it a lot because he's both a bit of rosa in him and a bit of the cynical jadedness he dislikes in other people. as a doctor, he wants to cure his patients, and he secretly harbours some hope, at the back of his mind, that people are better than he thinks they are, that when presented the opportunity for change and growth they'll choose it— which is why i think he "tests'" rosa in his stories so much. cus he wants to see a diff outcome come from her!! to him, i feel like there's a bit of him idealism projected onto her, smth like saying: "i tried and failed, but i want to see how you do it, and what new thing you'll show me with your way of doing things." in ideals and visions, he relates to rosa.
however, in many ssr stories, and even one sr (the iconic false tears story) he shows the pettiest and most spiteful parts of himself that he's tried to keep hidden from rosa, where he indulges his egocentric beliefs that makes him feel like the things he's doing are justified, as long as the end goal is a positive net of "justice" in the world. he also sometimes shows how incredibly judgemental and harsh he can be, because he always thinks he knows better and is more objective / morally superior than other people he dislikes. in practice and methodology, he relates to the people he dislikes. it's like a mirror that shows the ugliest parts of himself. if he dislikes them like any other normal person would dislike an asshole and then move on with their life, why would that be such a big psychological trigger for him? it clearly means more to him than he tries to hide, so he tries to make a clear line separating his own "cruelty" and other people's "cruelty" and how he's better than them cus he had the right intentions in mind.
(that's not how it works btw babygirl. but issokay ur kinda fucked up i'd like to put u under a microscope)
i like how he slowly comes to realise that contradiction, too. not verbally said, but i interpret his recent growth in stories as someone who knows he's "ugly" inside and filled contempt for everyone—although sometimes he dresses his actions in a more gentlemanly or "fair" so that it's still TECHNICALLY the right thing to do even if the way he did it was unethical. at first their relationship progression was "i want her to see the most impressive parts of me" > "i want her to rely on and be influenced by me" > "i want her to know my feelings but only the ones that are peer reviewed to be palatable" > "i want her to see me for who i am and accept me, even if i can't accept the entire truth of myself". and i think that fuckign ROCKS
concluding statement: if the road to hell was paved with good intentions vyn is building a freeway. but rosa is changing his lanes!!! she changed my lanes too if u know what i mean wink wink nudge nudge
anyways yeah im mentally sound and in perfect health about vynrosa why do you ask
diluc ragnvindr:
who? | only know their name | loathe | ugh | overrated | indifferent | dead | alive | just okay | cute | badass | my baby | hot | want to marry | favorite
i like him!!! iirc he was my second 5* after jean? and then i used him as a dps for a while! i wish they gave him fluffier or longer hair. i think in game diluc doesn't really do enough justice to his characterization or lore bc i feel like he looks a bit "bland" in story execution compared to the other charas. oh well, virtues and vices of being an early game chara! i like him best when he's in big brother mode and i cannot thank fanartists enough who portray him being a good big bro to the kids like klee, diona, bennett, fischl and razor. i love it!!!
lumine:
who? | only know their name | loathe | ugh | overrated | indifferent | dead | alive | just okay | cute | badass | my baby | hot | want to marry | favorite
she's so goddamn FUNNY and cute?????? i like the progression of her character and her growing into her own personality in the recent quests, i think they wrote it really well. have you listened to her voice lines where she talks w paimon? they show sm of her personality and she's just so... witty and dry and sarcastic but her voice is so soft that it makes u double-back and go, "sorry, run that by me again?" i love her sm. although, i don't really interact w the fandom a lot because they're very noisy in hating her for some reason. and it gets tiring to hear TwT i get my lumine food from anng rt'ing stuff on twt or on tumblr! consuming fandom the exact way it was intended: i only see what my friends will share w me!!!
kaeya alberich:
who? | only know their name | loathe | ugh | overrated | indifferent | dead | alive | just okay | cute | badass | my baby | hot | want to marry | favorite
another case of sadly being an early game chara so his execution was a bit sloppy TwT his lore is so funkin cool and his personal story and how he got his vision was, imo, the coolest and most emotionally impactful out of everyone else? ofc he and shenhe shares similar patterns in their history and how they were treated, but i think it hits harder for me bc like. GOD. overridden by guilt for the death of diluc's dad, he confronts him and tells him the truth of who he is. and at the emotional height of his life where diluc turns to fight him, he's given a vision if only to protect himself and his heart so that he can still go on and fulfill whatever "destiny" his dad had marked out for him, if he chooses that as his right.
i still think its meaningful bc even in game diluc never shows any signs that he genuinely, truthfully, dislikes kaeya. so while they still have this unspoken history between them that neither of them seem willing to talk about, there's a nostalgic and sad feeling of people who drifted apart brushing by each other time and again, and silently forgiving the other but not making it known at all. i can't find it rn but there's sm diluc and kaeya comics where its all about sibling hurt / comfort and reconciliation and making it known that they care about each other verbally, instead of accepting it as is in actions, bc they're hesitant to break the ice. GOD

My thoughts, notes, and theory noodles for “Fazbear Frights #11: Prankster” ...
Tumblr media
I can’t believe I’m finally at the end! It’s been a heck of a ride.
Brief warning! The first two stories have scenes of body horror / mutilation. I don’t dwell on it in my notes, but I didn’t censor anything either. So if that’s something that makes you uncomfortable, you may want to skip those two.
One nit to pick before starting: I really like the cover image, but I wish it matched all the other covers. The perfectionist in me wants them all to match, but instead Book 11 really be out here doing it’s own special thing.
As always, spoilers under the cut:

(image from Reddit user JaKE-GamER4)
"Prankster"
- Another adult protag, this one named Jeremiah, who works as a video game developer. The company he works for was just recently bought by Fazbear Entertainment, who wants the company to program a VR game for them. (Sounds familiar.) - Also working at the same company is Hope, a woman coworker that Jeremiah has a severe crush on but has no idea how to talk to, and a chatterbox dude named Parker, who has a terrible habit of playing pranks on his coworkers and filming their reactions. - Parker and Jeremiah both watch "Kingdom of Bones" (aka "Not Game of Thrones, Nosirree"), but Hope thinks the show is too violent to enjoy. - Parker and Hope spend some time with the game in the testing room, while Jeremiah works on other things. He doesn't hear much noise from them for awhile, but then they start giggling. On his way out, Parker and Hope remind Jeremiah to make sure he comes into work tomorrow, and are very adamant about his need to come in, even though he was going to anyway. - Jeremiah meets every once in awhile with his old college buddies, Matt and Ty, who also went to school to become computer programmers. Both his friends are married and have/are having kids, and it's often a struggle for the three of them to find the time or energy to hang out. - Matt complains about his oldest, baby Conner, who is teething. (-side eyes both “In The Flesh” and “Hide and Seek”-) - ... Jeremiah, being nice alone doesn't earn you any cookies. It's a start, and unlike a lot of people who profess themselves to be nice, you actually seem like a decent dude, but that can't be your *only* good quality, my guy. - On his birthday, Jeremiah walks into the office, expecting to get to work on the new VR game. While neither Parker nor Hope can be found anywhere, the office has been decorated for Jeremiah's birthday, presumably by the two of them. A birthday cake from the store sits in the break room for him, reading "Happy Birthday, Jeremy!", which he thinks is both funny and "close enough." He assumes the other two are already in the testing room, working on the game, but appreciates the attention. - As he hunts around the office for the other two, he becomes confused when he can't find them, and finally decides that Parker has roped Hope into playing some sort of birthday prank on him. - A distorted voice talks to him over the office loudspeaker (which no ones uses, apparently), and tells Jeremiah "I have taken Parker and Hope hostage," and says they will die if Jeremiah doesn't find them within a half-hour. (... I was expecting Glitchtrap out of this, not a frigging 'Saw' movie!) Jeremiah thinks the voice sounds like Parker, and assumes that it's just Parker playing a prank, and doesn't pay the voice too much attention. - The voice starts a timer, and tells Jeremiah that, if he isn't fast enough, Hope and Parker may "lose a few pieces." He's given a clue in the form of an anagram: "stinger moot." Solving the clue, he heads to the testing room. - Inside the testing room, he finds a small gift box with a purple bow on it. Pulling the wrapping paper off reveals a red engagement ring box, but opening the box reveals a strange collection of bloody human teeth, seven in total, ranging from adult molars to tiny baby teeth. ( 0_0 !!! ) A clue at the bottom of the box is another clue, this one reading: "Sink your teeth into this clue, Jeremiah -- Give me one, and I'll make more, each one like the one before. What am I?" - Jeremiah immediately guesses "the copy machine," but the voice over the loudspeaker warns him against being too confident. It goes on to wonder if, "once [Jeremiah] finds [his] friends, will [he] be able to recognize them?" - Rolling his eyes at what he assumes are Parker's antics, Jeremiah heads to the copy room. He sees what he thinks is a small jar of paper clips at first, but then realizes that it's a jar of whole fingernails that were torn from someone's hand. He decides they're probably fake, and dumps them out, retrieving a clue from the bottom of the jar. This one reads "You nailed this challenge! Your next clue contains even more frights. To get there, you just need to follow the lights." - One of the birthday decorations in the office is a strand of twinkling fairy lights, and Jeremiah begins to follow the strand down the hall. The voice over the loudspeaker warns him to find his friends before they go "all to pieces." The voice apparently really *does* sounds like a distorted version of Parker's voice, with all his same speech patterns and vocal ticks. - (... Not gonna lie, I'm kinda digging this Jigsaw-meets-Bugs-Bunny voice, which I'm assuming is Glitchtrap. If it is, it suits him.) - The strand of lights ends at an empty conference room, where Jeremiah sees three eyeballs on the table, placed so they're "looking" at him. Two of them are brown, like Hope's, and one is blue, like Parker's. They look wet, and too real for Jeremiah, who is feeling very, *very* squeamish and uncomfortable by this point. He knows there's a medical supply company nearby, and wonders if Parker got all these props from there. - Another note, this one tucked under one of the eyes, reads "I see you're moving closer to your goal. Follow the lights to make things right." Jeremiah sees a second string of lights, and this one leads him to a vacant PR office. - Entering the office, he finds a medium-size box, decorated like a colorful birthday present, complete with "happy birthday!" tag and silver bow. Inside this box is a pile of human fingers, more fingers than a single person has, cut into pieces and missing fingernails. One more intact finger is distinctly that of a woman, and is wearing Hope's favorite ring, even though it's clearly not Hope's finger. Jeremiah promptly throws up. - Jeremiah yells at "Parker," saying that his sick game has gone on long enough. The voice over the loudspeaker teases him, asking if he thinks things are getting "out of hand?" It then tells him to keep following the lights. - The strand of lights finally ends at the boss' office, which stands empty as the boss (whoever that may be) never comes for work anymore. Inside is a box with two arm holes cut into it, and a sign that says "For the key to where your friends hide, roll up your sleeves and reach inside." Jeremiah does, and wishes he didn't, as he only feels a box full of cold, wet intestines. He hopes these are animal innards bought from a butcher shop, or, at worst, donated organs from the medical supply company. He finally feels a key, and pulls it out, now covered in blood. - He yells at the voice again, but the voice only laughs at him. He leaves the office, slamming the door behind him, leaving a bloody handprint on the door. - He continues to follow the strand of lights, and comes across another decorated gift box, this time with a pink bow. He screams when he opens the box and finds Parker's face, removed from the skull, scalp and all. The voice over the loudspeaker mocks him, and asks if Jeremiah still thinks they're Parker, to which Jeremiah can only shake his head. - Panicking and realizing that he's been playing a game with some sort of killer psychopath, Jeremiah starts to run, trying to get out of the building. He feels like he's trying to escape a maze, and can barely remember where the exits are. He sees fresh blood smeared on the wall as he runs down the stairs. Every day he passes is locked, and he yells and hits at the doors, hoping to get the attention of a security guard or someone, but it seems there's no one else in or around the building. The ground level exit door is also locked, forcing him to go back to where he came from. - On his way back, he sees a door outlined in fairy lights that match the ones he'd been following. The door is unlocked, and leads to a level of the building that has never been occupied. He decides he'd rather take his chances with this mystery level than go back to dealing with the "malevolent presence" in his office. - The level is dark and empty, but there's a strand of lights leading him deeper into the darkness, and he can see something glowing from an office at the end of a hall. It turns out to be an old-style TV, turned on and only showing static. A VCR sits next to it. Jeremiah presses 'play' on the VCR, and sees the smiling faces of Parker and Hope appear onscreen. They greet him with laughter, a "surprise!", a "Gotcha good, there!", and a "Happy birthday!" - In video form, the two explain how they rigged up a motion-sensor and the loudspeaker system. As they talk to each other about how much work they put into this birthday prank for their friend, Jeremiah is distracted by the unfamiliar, dark room they're being filmed in, and the carving knives and meat cleavers sitting on the table in front of them. Then, video!Parker and video!Hope warn Jeremiah that, when he next sees them, they're probably going to need to get to a hospital. - Before Jeremiah can process that, video!Parker calls out to something behind Jeremiah, addressing it as "Parker" and saying that Jeremiah is "ready." Jeremiah hears someone knocking on the door of a closed supply closet behind him, and the video screen goes black just as the supply closet door starts to open. - Okay, so the story ends with a sharp cliffhanger, but here's my interpretation of what happened: When Parker and Hope were first testing the VR game they're working on for Fazbear Entertainment, they were possessed by Glitchtrap. But, while Glitchtrap was influencing them, they were also influencing Glithtrap, and all three of them end up sharing a single mind for a few hours. Obviously Glitchtrap's influence makes them act out in strange, violent ways that they wouldn't otherwise, but Parker's influence leads them to act out a prank of epic proportions, and Hope's influence is probably what causes them to set up the "birthday party" for Jeremiah. (I'm just guessing here, so take that with a huge grain of salt.) - Under this combined influence, Parker and Hope (both possessed by Glitchtrap) harm themselves and each other, leaving a gruesome trail of party decorations and body parts for Jeremiah to find. Then, at the end of everything, Jeremiah presumably finds what's left of Parker and Hope in the supply closet, although they're definitely barely alive at this point. (They're missing fingers, teeth, eyeballs, intestines, and at least one face between them, so I don't think there's much to be done to help them.) - Of course, I'm *assuming* Glitchtrap to be the root cause of everything in this story. The way these books go it could be Eleanor, but all the obvious references to "FNAF: Help Wanted" (beta testers being hired by Fazbear's, Jeremy/Jeremiah, messages on an old-style tape, a spooky maze/escape room style game with a birthday motif, someone losing their face, etc.) makes me think it's Glitchtrap just like it was in "Help Wanted." - Heck, even the amount of beta testers lines up with "Help Wanted." In the game, you play as the third member of a team. By collecting the tapes, you learn that your coworkers suffered some awful fates after playing this game, with your male coworker being forced to mutilate himself and your female coworker being forced to lead you into a trap, respectively. So, for the sake of this comparison, Parker = Jeremy, Hope = Tape Girl, and Jeremiah = Player Character. The two males got a bit of a name switch (Jeremiah and Parker vs. Jeremy and Player), and Tape Girl is maybe given a name? Or they're just random names, meant to make you think of "Help Wanted" and meaning nothing beyond that. - I kinda wish the story had ended after Jeremiah got a look at what's left of his coworkers. Or that the ending revealed that the whole thing was Jeremiah trapped in the VR game, and that he was acting out injuries on himself to match the body parts he kept finding (mimicking Jeremy's fate in the "Help Wanted" game). Because otherwise, the story feels unfinished, like there was more to it that somehow got cut during production. - ... Still really good though, ngl. Definitely one of my favorites from this series.

Tumblr media
"Kids At Play"
- Protag Joel is on his last year of high school, and is stuck working at his father's business. He doesn't like working there, but he doesn't have a choice in the matter, and he and his father argue about his hours and work ethic. His mother doesn't defend him either, instead harassing him about his imperfections and nagging him to be more like his father, who she (and others) thinks is the "perfect man." - Today's argument between Joel and his father (Steve) results in his father calling him a "screw up" and firing him on the spot. Joel doesn't care, and just rolls his eyes in response. Eventually, they finish screaming at each other, and Joel climbs into his pickup truck and drives away angrily. - Joel's goal is to hoard money, join his friends in a band, and leave town entirely, planning to go to Los Angeles. Once there, he plans to work as a model, since he's apparently *very* good looking, having inherited all of the good parts of both his parents. - Steve dresses in bright, colorful, flashy clothing, and has a very charming personality, and can befriend anyone he wants. He's very funny, and can play the guitar with the best of them. (... Hello, William stand-in. Been a while since I've seen one of your kind.) Growing up, Joel always thought his dad was cool, and wanted to be like him when he got older, and the two spent a lot of time together when Joel was younger. But, when Joel grew into a teenager, his father changed rather suddenly, and started acting treating Joel like both an adult and a stranger, instead of like his son. - He droves home too fast, angry, and runs over a sign by the side of the road. The side is shaped like a child, and reads "SLOW! Kids at play!" When Joel gets out to make sure he didn't get anything major, he sees what looks like a rotted animal corpse (a dog, he thinks) beside the knocked-over sign, and gets creeped out. - Joel's mom, taking his father's side: "You've pushed your father far beyond what any parent should have to endure!" - Joel is apparently well known around town, both for being from a well-known local family and for being a colossal jerk. - "[Joel] felt like a walking ball of anger all the time. He didn't mean to be, but he couldn't help himself." - Over dinner, Joel manages to beg his way back into his father's good graces, and becomes employed at the family business once more. We're told this is the first time he's been fired/rehired, but it already sounds like a routine for them. - "Fazbear Faz-crunch Cereal" XD - Joel's mom likes cooking, and takes classes for it, and has a big fancy kitchen in their house. And yet she doesn't cook breakfast for her son, who she knows can't cook, but instead leaves Joel to fend for himself in the morning with cereal. The only time he gets a decent breakfast is when his father cooks for the family. - Joel pours himself a bowl of cereal, and the toy at the bottom of the box falls into his bowl. The toy is a miniature version of the child-shaped "SLOW" sign. Just looking at it is enough to make Joel feel sick and uncomfortable. Bothered, he throws the toy across the kitchen. - One of the members of the band is named Evan. So... at three times, that's definitely a repeating name now. (Why do I feel like Scott, the man who clearly hates having to name his own characters, just looked at the fandom and went "well, they keep calling the young Afton boy 'Evan,' so that may as well be his name now!") - Joel gets into a fight with his parents, and then goes to his friend's place. After practicing with the band and getting into a fight with his friends, he drives home recklessly in the dark. He hits something in the dark, and belatedly realizes that he's hit a kid, a boy so small he's probably only about 5 - 7. Panicking, and not even checking on the kid, Joel speeds home, and ends up just laying in his bed, staring up at the ceiling all night. (... I just had a horrible flashback to "Hereditary") - Joel doesn't tell anyone about what he's done. But he gets haunted, the "kids at play" signs seeming to pop up in random places around town, almost like they're following him. - Driving into work with his father the next morning, Joel goes into a bakery to pick up his father's standing order of donuts. Sally, the dark-haired woman who runs the bakery, is inside but hasn't gotten started on any of her usual daily work yet. She's a wreck this morning, and she tells him her 5-year-old grandson Caleb has been missing for hours. - (Just a quick recap: a 5 y/o boy with dark hair, wearing dark clothes, is accidentally killed by an angry, angsty teenager who gets mad at his parents and doesn't want to work the family business, because the teenager forgets to think about his actions and how they'll affect others. Where have I heard this story before? -side eyes FNAF4- ) - (Side note: I feel like the name 'Evan' shows up whenever we're supposed to be comparing some aspect of the story to that of "Crying Child" Afton. Jake acts as a stand-in for CC at times, and his father is named Evan. There was a boy named Evan mentioned in "Together Forever," a story that centered around two kids getting attached to a springlock suit, similarly to how CC and Cassidy are. And now we're hearing it again, in a story that seems to be trying to parse out the complex relationship between William and Michael, and maybe some of the emotions and background information leading up to The Bite.) - We also learn that Caleb has (had) many of the same personality traits that Joel possesses - hates following rules, always looking for trouble - but he's also known as a bit of mischievous little prankster. (Like the title of the volume, perhaps?) - His brain still in a sense of shock, Joel just follows his father, mind empty and numb. A "kids at play" sign seems to follow them through a store, as though it's walking by itself, and Joel can hear the soft ticking of its plastic 'feet' as it walks behind him. - Steve recognizes that something is wrong with his son, but doesn't know what. When he asks why Joel is distracted today, the boy doesn't answer him. (Steve literally never learns of what Joel did. Which makes me wonder... does William know that Michael caused the death of his younger son? We assume he does, because how could he not, but it's never addressed in canon. What if he doesn't know what Michael did, and just knows that his oldest starts acting weird and depressed after his brother's death?) - Despite a thorough police search, no one has found Caleb, and no one but Joel knows what's happened to him. Joel both wants Caleb to be found and is afraid of that outcome, worried that Caleb is still alive and will be able to identify Joel as the one who hit him. And Joel doesn't want to risk going to jail. - Going to bed, Joel almost screams when the find the miniature "kids at play" toy on his bedside table. Since his parents don't pick up after him very often, and when they do it's generally just to throw his stuff into a large bin for him to collect later, he knows neither of them brought the toy to his room. He picks up the toy, and immediately feels cold all over. - "The 'right thing' was right for Caleb, but it was wrong for Joel." - Angry, Joel breaks the toy and throws it away, deciding that he no longer cares about Caleb's fate. - Joel wakes up at exactly 2 AM, and gets out of bed. He has no control over his body, and it just starts doing things against his will, moving around robotically, like his body is powered by "hydraulics." He feels "stiff" and like his body is "locked up and unyielding," his joints feeling awkward and sore. His body walks across his room, moving like a wooden puppet, and gets dressed. - "[Joel] felt like his body wasn't his anymore." - Being puppeteered by an unseen force, Joel's body leaves his bedroom. He passes the grandfather clock in the hall (a family heirloom from his mother's side), walks down the stairs, and leaves the house through the back door in the kitchen. As his body walks out into the road, Joel thinks that he feels like a "smaller person trapped inside a large robotic body that he can't control." - His body walks along the road. His body gets stiffer over time, and begins to feel more fragile. His joints creak loudly, and he starts to feel like he's made of plastic. Against his will, his body starts to head to where he knows Caleb's body is lying in a ditch. - Dimly, Joel realizes that he can't feel his heartbeat anymore. His face feels like a plastic mask. - "He wondered if anyone was looking out their windows, and seeing a freakish figure lumbering by." - Joel's body moves to stand near where Caleb's body lays hidden, and stops moving. He's unable to move, and can't even turn to see if Caleb's body is actually below where he stands. As he stands there, his mouth is forced open by his unseen puppet master, and (for some reason!) his *teeth* start to fall out, dropping out of his open mouth like falling pebbles. When his teeth are all gone, his hair starts to fall out, and is blown away by the wind. Then, his eyeballs just... fall out of their sockets. Joel is mostly thankful that he can't see anymore. - His fingers fall off, and then the rest of his hands, feeling like they're torn off by wires that are wrapped around him. Next, he feels something like a balloon inflate behind his empty eye sockets, filling the holes. His skin peels and falls off, like an unseen hand is opening him like a banana. Unable to take anymore, Joel's mind shuts off completely, allowing himself to cease existing. - A police chief responds to a call about seeing a "strange man" (in the area where the reader knows Joel was forced to walk to). He doesn't see a man, but he finds a "kids at play" sign, and we learn that the signs have been left around town as part of a public safety movement against reckless driving, headed by Fazbear Entertainment. This sign is much bigger than most of the others though, and it makes the chief uncomfortable to look at. He sees something that resembles the rotting remains of what he thinks is an animal corpse at the foot of the sign figure. - A faint whimper gets the chief's attention, and he follows the sound, finding Caleb at the bottom of a ditch. The boy is apparently alive after all this, and the chief/emergency responders are too busy tending to him to pay any more attention to the weird sign or the pile of organic parts at its feet. - So this has happened before. The first time Joel paid attention to any of the signs, he saw rotting body parts at its feet, too. But that one was child-sized, which sign!Joel is not, so was that first sign previously a child? Were *all* the signs previously children? Is the same fate going to claim the police chief next, now that he's encountered the previous victim? - And once again, the theme of reckless driving and kids dying because of it. This story almost felt like a continuation of "Friendly Face," especially with the specification of Caleb having black hair (like Jack does in "Friendly Face," or like Andrew does in the epilogues). - I think this is the first time a William stand-in has been officially described as "charming, wearing bright colored clothing, and plays the guitar." - No real theories for this one. Like with "Gumdrop Angel," I think the people-being-turned-into-traffic-signs thing is more of a metaphor for people-becoming-animatronics-and-toys. That's just my interpretation, though.

"Find Player 2"
- Amy and Mary-Jo are our new main gals, and they've been friends since they were toddlers. Amy has blonde hair, small features, and blue eyes, is concerned about her appearance, and prefers to stay home and quietly reads the books her dad buys for her on his business trips. Mary-Jo has frizzy brown hair, wide features, brown eyes, is energetic and loud and messy, and likes listening to the music and playing the games at Freddy's. - Amy lives with both her birth parents, while Mary-Jo, whose parents "had her too young," was abandoned by her parents and is now on her fifth foster family. (Oof. That's rough.) Amy begs her parents to adopt Mary-Jo, but her parents have refused so far, citing that they don't have the emotional bandwidth to care for another child. - Amy's father works as a "high end manager," and her mother is a marketing consultant. They're both often away from home for long stretches of time. - The two friends are going to play in the 'Hiding Maze' at Freddy's, which is a glorified hide-and-seek game setup made of mazelike tunnels and cubbies around the restaurant building. (So like a cross between the "Hide And Seek" story and the usual children's restaurant play area, got it.) The various cubbies and hidey-holes have doors with two-way mirrors on them, allowing the hiders to watch the seekers, but preventing the seekers from seeing the hiders. Only two people are allowed to play the game at a time, with the seeker being "Player 1" and the hider being "Player 2," respectively. The tunnels and cubbies are designed to look and feel like the kids are playing in a forest. - Mary-Jo is a little artist, which Amy likes to watch and compliment her on. - Amy thinks Mary-Jo often acts out just to get some attention, whether good or bad. - Amy acknowledges that she and Mary-Jo have very little in common, and that their different personalities causes Mary-Jo to constantly get on Amy's nerves, but she can't imagine not being friends with her. They've been together since forever, and they're both one another's only friend. - Mary-Jo carries a large backpack with her everywhere. The backpack contains all of her belongings, plus any food or money she can sneak into it. When Amy asks about it, Mary-Jo tells her it's so she can run away at a moment's notice, should a foster home go south. - When the girls head into the Hiding Maze, Amy sees a man watching them. The man is tall and thin and has dark, greasy hair and eyes that are almost black. He has yellow, crooked teeth. When the girls turn to look at him, he gives them a smile that gives Amy the creeps, and she thinks he looks like a horror movie villain. Amy is afraid of the man, but Mary-Jo refuses to back down from their creepy observer, and tries to pick a fight with him. The girls look at each other for a second, and the man vanishes by the time they look back. - The girls start playing the hide and seek game, with Mary-Jo being the hider and Amy being the seeker. While looking for her friend, Amy notes that the game entrance is open again, and, thinking that Mary-Jo has gotten bored and left, goes to check it out. Instead of finding her friend though, Amy comes face to face with the creepy man again, who smiles at her and causes every hair on her neck to stand up in instinctive fear. Amy runs away, giving up on Mary-Jo and the game, and instead goes almost straight to the game exit. She thinks she hears the man behind her, and she goes faster, panicking. - Amy leaves through the game exit, which deposits her in the back alley of the building (for... some reason? That seems like a terrible game design.) and decides that she never wants to come back to Freddy's. Realizing that Mary-Jo is still in the game, she worries that the creepy man may have found her friend, but decides that Mary-Jo is too good a hider for him. - Years later, in college, Amy suffers from a recurring nightmare where she's watching  as, inside the game, the man finds Mary-Jo. The girl fights him, and screams for Amy's help, but the man ultimately overpowers her. Amy wakes up with a start, crying and shuddering. The nightmare visits her frequently, but especially once a year in mid-May, the anniversary about the last time she saw her friend 10 years ago. - Amy is a business major, guessing from her studies. She graduates in a week, and she starts a new job after that. She's adapted to wearing her blonde hair a ponytail most of the time now, and has become pretty athletic and taken self-defense classes. She wonders and worries about what happened to her friend, and obsesses over what her child-self could have done differently, and is haunted by the face of the creepy man. - She saw the man on the news, not long after Mary-Jo's disappearance. His name was Emmett Tucker, and he'd been arrested after being caught trying to kidnap a different child. The man was a suspect in a string of missing kids, but had never been convicted for anything more than the attempted kidnapping of the one kid. After that, Freddy's closed down, and Amy doesn't know why. Amy's family also moved out of state after the incident. - Apparently, Tucker was in his early 40s when he was arrested and thrown in prison, but he looked much older than that. He worked in construction, had long-ish hair, and was a chain-smoker. - Amy's parents, like her, seem to suffer from a certain amount of guilt that they couldn't take care of Mary-Jo, and feel partially responsible for her disappearance. - Amy's mom calls her to let her know that Emmett Tucker was recently freed from prison "for good behavior." Hearing this makes Amy actually run to the bathroom to throw up, and she cries for awhile. - Amy decides to go back to her hometown, and specifically to go back to Freddy's. She wants to know for sure what happened to her friend. - Arriving in her hometown a few days later, Amy looks in a mirror at the motel she's going to stay at. She thinks she looks much older than she is, her emotional baggage having aged her faster than it should have. - Amy's closest friend at college was Greta, a psychology major who helps Amy with her trauma, telling her that she's not to blame for whatever did or didn't happen to Mary-Jo, since she was a child at the time. Greta is described as being very smart and very pretty, with green eyes and bright red curly hair that she cuts herself. - Amy didn't tell her parents about this little trip home she's taking, knowing they would worry that she was going to confront Tucker and try to talk her out of it. Due to her recent hobbies of sports and self-defense, Amy doesn't exactly fear Tucker anymore, and assumes that he's a weakling who's too much of a wuss to take on an adult, given that he seems to have only ever attacked children. She assumes he "wouldn't know what to do with someone who could fight back." - Amy sees Tucker at a local bakery. He has a new scar on his cheek, and has lost a few teeth, but she still recognizes him. He buys his breakfast and eats it alone outside in the dreary rain, avoiding everyone else. When he's done and leaves, Amy follows him. She tails him while he picks up a prescription from a pharmacy and then does his grocery shopping, picking up frozen dinners. He seems to be completely oblivious to her presence, so Amy doesn't bother trying to hide too hard. - She follows Tucker down a rural road out into the countryside, through corn fields and trailer parks. Tucker apparently lives in an old mobile home in one of the trailer parks, and Amy thinks the place "doesn't look fit for rats, let alone humans." - Holding a taser in her hand, Amy approaches the mobile home. She confronts him about Mary-Jo's fate. Tucker openly ogles her, and says that he'll answer her questions if she'll sit and talk with him for awhile. - Tucker chews gum. He says he quit smoking. - He admits that he recognizes her, and remembers Mary-Jo. He tells that, on that day at Freddy's, he was looking for his daughter Jill. He tells her that he and his wife ("the lying tramp I married") got divorced and she got custody of their daughter, and that it was actually their daughter who was the child Tucker got caught "trying to kidnap." - Tucker lost both custody and visitation rights to his daughter, and was skulking around Freddy's to try to get close to her. It's suggested that the only reason he was watching Amy and Mary-Jo that day was because, from a slight distance, he mistook Amy for his daughter. - Amy thinks he's lying, and threatens to tase him if he doesn't tell her the truth. He tells her that he's tired of being accused of things he didn't do. The two get into a fight, and Tucker ends up dragging her into his own home and locking her in the bathroom, telling her that he's going to call the police on her assaulting him. While he's on the phone, Amy escapes through the bathroom window. - She returns to Freddy's only to find that it's been replaced with a larger, adult-themed restaurant. This new restaurant is called "Flo's Fabulous Eatery," and has a cow mascot named Flo. She enters the restaurant and pokes around in it, trying to find anything that remains of Freddy's. - Sneaking into the maintenance room of Flo's, Amy finds the entrance to the hiding maze in a far wall, which looks like an air vent with a rainbow painted over it. She climbs in, and the old game maze is still fully intact on the inside, and the recorded voice of Freddy Fazbear plays over a cassette tape when she pushes a button to turn the game lights on. She sees that her and Mary-Jo's names are listed as the last players of the game, with the outcome of their game listed as "failure." - Amy finds an old friendship bracelet that Mary-Jo had once made for her, and climbs into a cubby to get a closer look at it. The cubby door closes behind her, and locks her in, the game computer believing her to be playing it. The door will unlock when the seeker (Player 1) finds her. - Through the two-way mirror of the door, Amy can see a cubby door open across the tunnel from hers, and sees the lifeless, mummified remains of Mary-Jo. She realizes that, all those years ago, she had inadvertently trapped her friend by abandoning the game without actually ending it, and that her best friend died alone and abandoned. - Consumed by the guilt and realization that she herself caused her own friend's death, and that no one went looking for Mary-Jo, and that Mary-Jo must have died believing that no one cared about her at all, Amy screams and cries and curls up into a ball, awaiting her own fate. Outside the tunnels, no one can hear her, and the cassette tape continues to play, encouraging the seeker to "find Player 2." - I think it's worth noting that Tucker's physical description is basically just how William looks during his "normal night guard Dave Miller" phase in the original trilogy / graphic novels, complete with messed up teeth, creepy smile, and the threatening aura that surrounds him and scares anyone who looks at him (his charming persona having rotted away by this point). It's a red herring, but still interesting. - I'm not sure why no one found Mary-Jo? Like, she was inside a popular game at a popular children's restaurant. I would assume that some child would have opened the game cubbies before too long, or that some employee would have overridden the game controls at closing time or something. And if nothing else, we're told that the police were looking for her, and they definitely would have started looking in the last place she'd been seen. She should have been found mere hours later, or a couple of days tops, and after a quick trip to the hospital she should have been relatively fine. But it's Fazbear's, so it's whatever. - For the first half of this story, I fully expected it to be the origin story for Cassidy, and that Mary-Jo was a stand-in for her, and that we were going to see how William originally killed Cassidy and how/why she became the angry "Vengeful Spirit." But, since the story didn't go that direction, my disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.

"Epilogue 11"
- Jake has a dream where he's at a birthday party having fun, and the dream almost tricks him into staying there. Still, he forces himself awake. - Larson realizes that the ball pit is a portal of some sort, and searches for it in whatever time era Eleanor left him in. His body instinctively knows where it is, and he walks straight to it, located inside an open Freddy's building. Business is good at Freddy's, and lots of kids and families are laughing and playing inside. They glare judgmentally at Larson, since he's a single man entering a children's restaurant with no children and he looks like he's been in a fight recently, but he ignores them and goes straight for the ball pit. - Announcing himself as a police officer and ordering everyone away from the area, Larson enters the ball pit. When he comes out again, he's walking along a residential street, and comes across a junkyard. He goes to where he knows Eleanor is (where she was at the beginning of "To Be Beautiful") and she promptly attacks him. She hits him with a tire iron, and he loses a tooth in the fight. - The heart-shaped pendant around Eleanor's neck pulses and turns bright, blood red when she gets angry. - Larson leads Eleanor in a chase around the junkyard. The chase ends with Larson shoving Eleanor into a garbage compactor, where she shrieks as she is crushed. - Larson wakes up in Talbert's house, and sees a very angry "Ranelle." She unhinges her jaw and black, slimy tendrils come out of her mouth, snaking across the room and binding Larson. The tendrils are made of blood, and touching them sends him back in time once more, but this time he finds Freddy's decrepit and abandoned. - This time, when Larson enters the ball pit, he pops out in someone's attic. He sees an old storage trunk in the corner, and instinctively goes to it. He opens it and sees Eleanor inside, curled up like a child. When she sees him, she attacks him and tries to choke him. He beats in her face with various items he finds in the attic. - Once again, Larson wakes up on the floor near "Ranelle" and Dr. Talbert again. He sees the Stitchwraith beginning to wake up as well, just before "Ranelle" sends Larson back in time again. - Once again, Larson goes to where the ball pit is, this time finding it in a Freddy's that's been remodeled into a "Papa Bear's Pancake House." Going to the ball pit, Larson finds himself in a boy's bedroom. He finds Eleanor hiding in the bedroom closet and, picking up a metal bat from among the boy's belongings, begins beating her with it. He knocks her head off entirely. - Again, Larson has been sent through time, and is heading back to the ball pit. This time, there's nothing of the building around it, although the ball pit it still there and in one piece, although it smells like rotting death. Going through it this time leads Larson to an abandoned warehouse, and gets attacked by Eleanor from the rafters. She bites a chunk out of his cheek as they fight. - Meanwhile, "Ranelle" writhes in agony. The Stitchwraith crawls toward her. He starts to attack her, but the black tentacles growing from her mouth, fingers, and toes all reach toward him, wrapping around his face and blinding him. She sits up and grabs him, but he's bigger and stronger than her at the moment, and Jake forces her to lay back down and be quiet, then forces her personality out of her body and into his own, trapping Eleanor inside the Stitchwraith with him. - Jake searches through Eleanor's thoughts and memories, although he isn't sure he'd call them "memories." He finds one where she's feeling nothing but rage and despair, and traps her in it, like a reverse "happiest day" ending. This is apparently what defeats her. - Two weeks later, Larson is watching his son's baseball game. He cheers when his son catches the ball. - Across town, Jake the Stitchwraith shuffles toward the building where the ball pit is. He knows it's where Eleanor belongs, and he intends to "lay her to rest" here. - "[The ball pit] was like a graveyard for the souls of victims of a wicked wrongness that [Jake] didn't fully understand. What had happened here? Where did Eleanor come from? Had she caused all this chaos, or had the chaos somehow caused her?" - We learn that, after trapping Eleanor into himself, Jake had gone to find the real homeless girl that he'd been trying to help that Eleanor had replaced. The girl had been locked in a crate. After rescuing her from there, Jake got her to a hospital. - Apparently, Jake also found Dr. Talbert's real daughter. Who is *not* the homeless girl, but is some other person entirely. I know MatPat says they’re the same person in one of his videos, but that’s not what the text says. (Also... Why???? Is Talbert???? Still alive??!?!?!? Yes, I *will* continue to scream about this!) - Jake enters the ball pit, and sinks down into it. - Millie (our protag from "Count The Ways") is wandering around outside her grandfather's house. She feels like she's been out here for a long time. She gets startled by a little boy who appears out of a bush nearby, but the boy just smiles, introduces himself as Jake, and leads her back to her grandfather's front porch. She reenters the house, and shares a hug with her grandpa. (Oh, thank god! Millie gets a happy ending after all this time!) - Back in the ball pit, Jake smiles as the plastic ball in his hands changes color, presenting a sad scene that's turned into a happy one. (The balls are described here as becoming glass, instead of plastic, and showing scenes and images inside them. They sound like the balls Jareth is forever juggling in Jim Henson's "Labyrinth.") - Each of the balls in the ball pit represents a victim who suffered at the hands of Fazbear Entertainment. Using Eleanor and the ball pit to travel through time, Jake has the ability to change the outcomes of each prior story, preventing all the bloodshed and giving everyone a happy ending instead. This renders all of the previous stories in this book series (and maybe even including things like the Missing Children's Incident, Elizabeth's death, and other prior events) null and void, with none of the bad things actually happening. He's not erasing the original evil of William Afton's intentions, but he is preventing them from happening. This whole sequence is super interesting to me, and is definitely the grounds for some future ideas and theories I may play with. - (Jake, 'Oprah voice': "You get a happy ending, and you get a happy ending. Everybody gets a happy ending!") - Larson sits in Talbert's living room, finally getting the answers to all his questions. Talbert tries to explain what Remnant is, describing it as metal conducting thoughts and memories instead of electricity. He talks about how his daughter Ranelle was a sickly little girl who spent a lot of her childhood in the hospital, and how he made a necklace pendant for her out of Remnant, so that he couldn't lose her entirely if she died. He shows Larson the pendant, and Larson recognizes it as the one that Eleanor wore. - Talbert admits that it was his obsession with trying to prevent the loss of Ranelle that actually led to him losing her. He tells Larson that the necklace is haunted, although by who or what he doesn't say, and tells Larson to take it, that he "can't bear to look at it anymore." Talbert bids Larson good-bye, and says that he's looking forward to spending time with his real daughter now. - Larson leaves, and hears a high-pitched song coming from the pendant in his hand. He doesn't know who or what it is, but doesn't perceive it as a threat. - I actually liked most of this ending to the epilogue adventures. I thought it wrapped things up pretty well on the whole, and my only real complaint is that Eleanor isn't explained. Is she Elizabeth Afton, like I've been assuming her to be all this time, or is she something or someone else? And if she's something or someone else, then who or what is she? Is she just a doll-shaped vessel full of Remnant? Is she a different character we've seen before? I have so many questions! - Jake, an 8-year-old with no knowledge of Fazbear's or what horrible things have happened there: -fixing everything and cleaning up the messes of the original cast- William, Michael, Henry, and everyone else all looking at each in confusion: "Can he *do* that?! Is that allowed???"

I'm so excited that my fave manhwha comic is getting deep into the main characters' parents' pasts to see what happened to them and why they did what they did, the main characters are greatly influenced by their parents whether their parents are good or bad
Not to mention, some snippets I've seen have grave indications, like one where the Protagonist's Mother was in her youth, being a happy young lady and in the next, she's a mature woman, who's sitting holding her pregnant belly and saying: "This is all your fault" to her unborn baby, which I'm not sure if it's the protagonist she was carrying cuz the Protag's Mother has 2 children
But it really indicates a lot, it's possible she was forced to get married and get pregnant hence her apparent dislike to her unborn baby
This Mother since the very start, has been shown multiple times to be an extremely abusive parent and she was an obsessive perfectionist. But is that all there is? I'm interested in knowing who she was, especially after that brief flashback
I hope the characters you want to see fleshed out will be so!! They always do this in so much media by making you wonder Why these characters (especially parents) are like this and it’s satisfying (and grim lol) when you finally see it omg 😭😭
She sounds like such a terrible person lol I hope they give a good backstory, but don’t excuse her actions 👀 If they do give her a redemption arc, she better work like Hell for it! 😬😬

so one of the older stories ive made that still appeals to me was the one about what happens after a portal fantasy ends focusing on this guy who was a child hero and saved a fantasy otherworld and then ended up back home on earth feeling completely listless and unfulfilled and had a lot of problems due to him just disappearing for weeks to months on end when he was a literal child. i think the storyline i used for that wasnt the right one (i had him return to the fantasy world, but it would’ve been more interesting to keep him on earth) but the concept is still good imo and i still like the character i used for it
#i like stories that are like well the world is saved. What Now#and all too fucking often the answer is the hero gets married and has babies#fuck OFF#not only is that bad and boring and dumb as shit it is uhm. also at times kind of a trigger for me due to some unknown reason#smth im currently trying to work on is a story set in a fantasy world focusing on someone who turned out to not be the grand hero of legend#who still defeated the great evil but like. due to not being the one who was SUPPOSED to said evil could still come back#and hes like trying to deal with that trying to make a living as someone who spent most of his life as a soldier or hero#trying to build a healthier relationship with his daughter#oooh ok the reason the married with kids ending makes me feel so godawful is probs like. *is aspec* *is sex repulsed*#*is very deeply adverse to the idea of myself in a relationship* *is traumatized from societys ambient misogyny*#*just doesnt like children very much* *having to see the idea of a life and relationship i want nothing to do with presented as the ultimate#in happiness and contentment makes me feel bad and trapped*#ANYWAY#lmao this guys story (the second guy) started just as me going yk what would be funny . traditional heroic fantasy#but theres a definite undercurrent of tense queer energy that pervades the whole thing#my idea was to write smth that cishet nerd men would want to read and then to hit them with 'actually the protag?'#'mlm and in love with his best friend'#huh. a lot of my playing with fantasy tropes story protagonists are mlm#most of my regular characters are wlw/nblw bc im nbwlw so i guess its just most fantasy protags are guys?#i think ill turn the portal fantasy guy into a dnd npc. living in a graveyard with his necromancer husband

Why Black Clover is not a (if Naruto and Fairy Tail had a baby) type of Anime
Sick and tired of people comparing these 3 anime so when I came across a tiktok with points on why they are all the same by @/jersey.kawaii I was like hey I don’t have nothing to do.
So here is my take on why they are not the same along with the points they made on why they were. Sorry if this looks choppy
Loud mouth protag with something to prove.
Naruto Uzumaki: Becoming Hokage so the village would respect him. Being loud so he would be noticed. Did not become OP with Kurama’s help until during the Ninja War Arc. Before that Kurama didn’t help in Naruto’s growth and took every opportunity to control his body when his host was overcome with hatred  which would send Naruto into a rampage
Natsu Dragneel: Was raised by a dragon and said dragon left him at a very young age. Is just very boisterous and overall friendly. Does not have a set goal (besides finding his father which he later does) just wants to go on adventures with his guild mates. (not all caught up with fairy tail 100 year quest) He did not get help from a demon Natsu was already half demon and a Dragon Slayer.
Asta: Wants to become the wizard king because he wants to prove that even if you’re poor or have no magic anything can be possible so long as you don’t give up on yourself. Grew up in an orphanage. Born with no magic but did not let that stop him from training. Is very boisterous but has a certain charm after a while. After requiring his grimoire Asta didn’t know anything about the demon living inside of it until much later. The grimoire chose him because he was the ONLY person in that world who could use it.
Rival/Best Friend
Sasuke Uchiha: Has black hair and an attitude problem. Watched his clan be slaughtered by his older brother and then had a curse mark forced upon him. Does not share a goal with Naruto
Gray Fullbuster: Has black hair and an attitude problem. Fire and Ice don’t mix unless you’re Shoto Todoroki. Does not share a goal with Natsu
Yuno: Has black hair and an attitude problem: If anything Yuno should be in a league of his own when it comes to the rivalry he has with Asta. It’s a give and take for both of them and Yuno will get upset if people underestimate Asta. He acknowledges that it was Asta who helped him become a strong mage and now shares a goal. He was not cursed if anything the power he has would be called a blessing
Female Lead
Sakura Haruo: Best friends of the protag and tends to hit him a lot and deemed useless by fandom: She was not Naruto’s best friend growing up. If anything she always called him annoying and a burden. Would hit him for the most outrageous reasons. Their relationship got better when he returned to the Leaf Village. Was very useless in part 1 of Naruto but is a great ninja in part 2. However her personality as a human being is complete garbage
Lucy Heartfilla: Best friends of the protag and tends to hit him a lot and deemed useless by fandom: Natsu and Lucy are like two peas in a pod. If you add Happy then they could be thought of as the three stooges. Is not weak but less strong than other members of her guild.
Noelle Silva: Best friends of the protag and tends to hit him a lot and deemed useless by fandom: She cares for Asta because he was the one to help her with her magic. Stood up for her when she was being bullied by her family. Is just as strong if not stronger than Asta. Has a crush on Asta but doesn’t know how to deal (total tsundere however much cuter when it’s Noelle). She is very much in love with protag
The more reserved female character
Hinata Hyuga: Who is in love with the protagonist and he does not notice and or care...Pretty much her whole character
Lisanna Strauss: Who is in love with the protagonist and he does not notice and or care: She was at a time and Natsu did have feelings for her as well (they raised Happy together and promised to get married) however Natsu had presumed her deceased after being told by her siblings and did not know that she was in another world. Upon her return she supported the relationship between Lucy and Natsu (if anything was their biggest shipper)
Mimosa Vermillion: Who is in love with the protagonist and he does not notice and or care: Has more to offer than just being known as a girl who loves the protag. Asta does not notice because he is in love with sister Lilly (it’s not going anywhere Asta) but I’m sure if he did know he would care because that is just who Asta is.
The character that was a villain but now is part of the group
Gaara of the Sand: He was just doing a job he was told to do. Always felt like an outcast because of the One Tail being sealed inside of him. Really started to change because of the kinsmenship he had with Naruto who was the only person who could really understand him
Gajeel Redfox: The character that was a villain but now is part of the group...Honestly where is the lie?
Zora Ideale: Less of a villain more of an anti-hero. Zora was always part of the Black Bulls unofficially he just really hated Royals and magic knights. After meeting Asta he made up his mind to become an official member of the Black Bulls
Mentor / father figure
Jiraiya: Overpowered and dubbed himbo of the show: Overpowered kinda but then again he did die and we really didn’t get to see more of his abilities. He’s more of a pervert than a himbo. Himbo- an attractive but unintelligent man. Jiraiya was plenty smart and nowhere near unintelligent, again he’s just a huge pervert.
Gildarts Clive: Overpowered and dubbed himbo of the show: To be honest I don't remember much about him. I can say he was overpowered and that's all I can really remember of him and that he didn't know he had a daughter. Status: Alive
Yami Sukehiro: Overpowered and dubbed himbo of the show: (Copying off his Wiki Page) Yami is uncouth, reckless, slightly hypocritical, and prone to delivering death threats at the slightest provocation. Nevertheless, he is a powerful and well-respected Magic Knight who was able to recognize Asta's merits when none of the other Captains would give him a chance.
He is typically a stoic man who believes more in actions than in words. He is very hot-headed, who can be easily angered by small matters. In other words overpowered yes but well earned and not a Himbo. Status: Alive

N or Ghetsis
Why not the father and the son!
N Headcanon A:  realistic - during the two years post BW where he’s traveling around to learn more about the truth of the world, he meets a lot of canon characters from the other regions.   I don’t even have particular headcanons about specific scenarios, I’ve just always liked the idea of him crossing paths with past protags and prominent trainers from the other games and learning little life lessons from the ones he meets. Traveling around with some of them for short bursts between towns.
Headcanon B: while it may not be realistic it is hilarious - the sex ed he received from the Sages (cause no way was Ghetsis going to explain any of that to him) very much stressed that since he was a future King, one day he would find a “prince/princess” who would be his perfect match, thus he needed to wait until he met this person before starting a physical relationship with anyone (or rather wait until the Sages/Ghetsis helped him find this person, in the far future). While he was told this in hopes of preventing him from falling for the first omega in heat he was exposed to once he was out on his own, it did have the effect of making N a bit of a romantic when it came to the idea of finding a partner.  It’s why he does somewhat latch onto the idea of Hilbert as this fated partner.  For all that they’re technically enemies, the duality of their roles stands out to him. While liberating Pokemon, of course, comes first, the idea still takes route in the back of his mind and it’s something he’s not wholly able to let go of even as the two spend years apart post BW.
Headcanon C: heart-crushing and awful, but fun to inflict on friends - that had N managed to defeat Hilbert during BW, there is no possible route that ends happy for him.  His fate is sealed since Ghetsis wins. Assuming Ghetsis doesn’t just kill him once he’s outlived his usefulness (which is the more likely route if N loses, but Ghetsis wins against Hilbert) his best route is to be the puppet king of Plasma who is allowed to marry Hilbert as his “reward” (something something about them being a clear choice for a “fated pair” given the duality of their roles as the heroes, also it looks good from a propaganda standpoint to have both heroes “working” for Team Plasma). Their children will then be used as pawns by Ghetsis for whatever role he sees fit and by the time N finally realizes just how bad the situation has gotten, his hands are tied and the best he can do is go along with what Ghetsis wants in an attempt to barter for Ghetsis going easier on his family/children.
Headcanon D: unrealistic, but I will disregard canon about it because I reject canon reality and substitute my own - (not unrealistic in my opinion, but) that Ghetsis is his biological father. I will die on this hill, word of god be damned. Ghetsis just threw baby N in some forest with wild Pokemon, monitored him half to make sure he didn’t die (although if he did, oh well), but also to see if he would develop the ability to speak to Pokemon.  Once it was clear he had, he retrieved him from the forest.  He even told N he was his father, thus why he should come along with him.
Ghetsis Headcanon A:  realistic - that he spent almost three decades working towards setting up his grand vision for what Team Plasma would be. While it was very much in the dream stage during his teens, he was still working to cultivate relationships and convince people to one day help him in the future. He also was doing research on what was the best possible way to take over a region, which involved him traveling around the world and looking into the legends of different regions (since using legendary Pokemon is a classic for gaining power).
Headcanon B: while it may not be realistic it is hilarious (to me) - that he has multiple bastard children scattered across many regions.  Young Ghetsis was quite the charmer when he wanted to be and very much lived for his own pleasure, thus all the wild sex he was having in his youth (and even once he’s older.  He is the true leader of his cult, afterall. Also, why else would he have his personal bodyguards dress Like That).
Headcanon C: heart-crushing and awful, but fun to inflict on friends - He actually did care about N’s mother, so much as someone like him can care for someone. Their relationship was substantial enough that people knew he was the father of her baby so when she passed away in childbirth, he was the clear choice for who would get custody of N.  Had she not passed away, while Ghetsis certainly would never have been a good father, there’s a chance things could have gone better for them.  Even if the likely route would have been villainous dad and morally ambiguous mom raising their son to be the future heir to dad’s weird up-and-coming cult.
Headcanon D: unrealistic, but I will disregard canon about it because I reject canon reality and substitute my own - He ends up becoming kinda sorta a mentor to his grandson, Braith. Picture a grumpy old man who’s done with everyone telling this hotshot kid ways to get his Deino to battle more effectively, mostly because said kid won’t leave him alone, but also because there’s a tiny part of him that is intrigued by Braith.  Maybe even feels a little proud that his useless son was able to produce a useful grandson for him.

i DO actually wanna know how youd make kotor 3 !!!!!
this ask has been sitting on my inbox for so long on PURPOSE! i wanted some time to re read the revan book + watch some swtor gameplays so i could give a concrete answer about why the book and swtor arent satisfactory and what i would do instead (im not like. a storytelling god so i this is just my PERSONAL idea). under the cut!
to begin with, what's wrong with revan the book and swtor, mai?
i am very fond of swtor i think it was such a nice idea to have an "open" world game set in star wars old republic time. but ultimately, it was not a good conclusion to revan and meetra's storyline! now, i don't really know what happened in the development of the third kotor game (if there ever was a plan for one) but it's clear they dropped the ball on that and decided to start a whole different project. i don't think we can blame disney for that one, because it was announced on 2008, launched in 2011, and disney had just bought star wars that year. so who knows.
the thing is that it's painfully evident that a bunch of the story that was gonna be in the third game, ended up in the book + misc parts of swtor. much of the book feels like a gameplay.
now, it was clear when the book was planned that they wanted to keep revan's story open so when the game came out, they could have a cool Revan storyline so he could make a cool villain appearence and draw in some of that kotor nostalgia. which ehhhhhh. uh. i don't really think did any favors for revan's character. he didn't have a satisfactory arc (I'm not saying "a happy ending" because good arcs aren't always happy) but at least some closure?
revan went through many big events in his life. we didnt need to keep his ass in stasis for his fun villain moments 300 years later. we already had what we wanted from him: jedi turned sith turned jedi again to defeat a terrible threat. that was it we could have let it there and it would have been cool! but then they decided to drag and drag his story just to leave him right where he was before. he just suffered a little more in the in-between.
you could say he finally redeemed himself of all of his crimes this way, but wasn't that the whole purpose of the first kotor game (and would have been the purpose of the 3rd?)
swtor does not centre revan in his own narrative. he's a side character for the player to experience. and look, i get it, we've had a different protag on each game, why not have another one in this one. well, because the protagonist has no personal relationship with revan. meetra was one of his closest friends, and fought with him. there is a connection that can be exploited. but the swtor protagonist is just some guy 300 years in the future who happens to stumble into revan and his life. not even his descendants get to fully interact with revan.
also, there is the fact that revan is not the centre of the game itself, only of a particular storyline. and it's weird, because swtor could have happened without revan's involvement.
ms. meetra surik, ms. bastila shan, women of the world I'm sorry
so it's no news that star wars is misogynistic as fuck right. cause it is.
so you decide to make your gender neutral protagonist a guy. then you decide to make your other gender neutral protagonist a woman. cool. now let's guess who gets underdeveloped, turned into a plot device without reason, and promptly fridged in the most unceremoniously fashion just to fullfil some manpain moments. which one do you think got that treatment.
i know the revan book is supposed to be about revan, but why make meetra go through a whole arc just to undermine her character and turn her into the faithful servant of the guy? she leaves everything behind for him, sacrifices herself for him, hell not even dead is she not serving the guy. and she was the second game’s protagonist! she beat up a bunch of powerful people and now she’s just meh, there? she had so many interesting ways to interact with revan (meeting kreia, revan’s first master, encountering another force consuming entity, etc.)
meetra went through a whole arc about dealing with the guilt of doing something horrible and having the consequences of it cut her from the force. we see her broken, then slowly come back to the world and reconnect herself with the force, then stop running and face the consequences of her role in the war. thats such a cool character with tons of potential! and nothing happened!
then we got bastila who is. a whole deal. so you make her go through a “promising jedi who defeated revan, to questioning reluctant companion, to fell into the dark side, to was redeemed thanks to her bond to revan, who helped her come back because he’d been through the same experience” arc, and then you decide to push her to the side to have a baby?? which is... its clear that the writer didnt know what to do with her (or with the other characters outside of canderous) so hey, lets get her to marry revan and have a baby.
my ideal kotor 3
to preface, im not a game developer, so some of my choices could be stunted by what a kotor rpg can do lol. of course, it would follow the same mechanics and have the same format as the first two, because consistency!
the fun way to start the game, would be from scourge’s perspective. we get to play as a sith! i’d even say you get to change scourge’s name and gender and looks (i know sith have different looks)
in scourge’s storyline, we get from his arrival to normound kaas, to his talks with nissyris, to his missions working for her. in some of these, we can make scourge lean into the dark or the light side! fun! plus we get some exposition with dialogue options. it all continues untill we get to nissirys story about the emperor. we get a fucked up cutscene of his childhood and then BOOM when its over, we see revan waking up from a nightmare and their pov starts.
ok, as for revan’s story, since we’d have to pick it up from where kotor ended, i’d have a little cutscene of revan back into the ebon hawk, with bastila, and them telling the crew to take them to courascant. then cut to a council meeting where revan and bastila get scolded in private, then rewarded by the republic. i would also like to see some revan mournink malak’s death mayhaps. since he was their childhood friend and all.
i would 100% scrape the marriage and two years passed part. as the book said, the council had no use for revan aside from the legend(tm), so why would they stay in courascant. revan was very alienated from the jedi at that point, despite being back in the “light side”
then like, to revan asking around for meetra and other jedi from the mandalorian wars, we can cash in that atris cameo, then revan starts to have these visions about the sith emperor, and maybe we could get a playable dream sequence about revan’s fight with mandalore the ultimate (I KNOW I WOULD LIKE TO SEE IT.) and we get the whole exposition to mandalore telling revan that the sith are behind it all. i believe we should get a bunch of these flashback/dream sequences of revan’s past doing shit. cut to revan burying the mask in a planet, then back to the present. we see a bunch of mission and juhani scenes trying to reach him, but he keeps pushing them away. revan and bastila meet canderous, travel to the ice planet, meet clan ordo (god i love clan ordo) you get the whole quest, you decide weather to spare veela or not, maybe you get a cheeky mandalorian companion (force sensitive mando oh?) and leave canderous behind.
we can visit like, a couple more planets searching for clues maybe, etc. then when reaching nathema, you are forced to go alone as revan, get to explore nathema a bit (raiding ancient location yay) nathema as a location can be so fun because you can have it weaken you hp bar and also you cant use the force (which, in game is pretty cool)
then we get to scourge and nyssiris arriving to the planet, they fight but since theres two of them and revan doesn’t have the force, they beat the shit out of them, and while running away, they get in a fight with bastila and the companions in the ebon hawk (ebon hawk shooting game my hated). bastila manages to get a glimpse of revan’s thoughts before they take them away. but the ebon is so ruined it takes bastila, t3 and the mandalorian a while to fix it, and they get stuck into the unknown regions for a while. the ebon hawk is left in an outer rim planet with t3 fixing it, bastila and the mandalorian run back to the jedi council, only to get caught in the middle of the jedi civil war. we can have bastila choosing to hide in courascant and trying to make sense of what she saw, reading texts about the sith empire, trying to plot a course to where they took revan (more atris! but shes pissed at her now)
cutscene to meetra’s pov, leaving malachor v behind, getting calls from everyone at the hawk (atton my beloved) but just as she’s leaving she gets a force message from revan, calling for her to find him and sending visions of normound kaas. then, through her force bond with visas, she tells her not to go because they’re gay and in love and whatnot.
then boom, she gets intercepted by bastila’s ship, with the mandalore and the other mandalorian (yes i do love having a bunch of mandos on board) and they go on their way to find revan.
now i want there to be an underlying message of “we can’t take our friends with us because we have to do this ALONE we’re powerful JEDI we don’t need our FRIENDS.” meetra gets asked if she wants to bring any friends and she’s like “no. we have to do this alone.” along the game you get constantly contacted by other game characters, you get the chance to talk to them or ignore them.
so, we get back to nathema, and meetra has a whole “holy shit this is just like darth nihilus but ten times worse. but i beat darth nihilus. i can do this!” then she finds peace in this place without the force, we get a whole speech about how the odds arent against them, they find a way to normound kaas, and get going.
in normound kaas i thought about them getting a whole mission about how to infiltrate the citadel, only to get helped by scourge. he joins the party, we get a little flashback of all the years he spent trying to make revan remember and they storm the citadel. we get to fight the dark council members, fun! then we get to free revan and the game switches povs. bastila hands the mask to revan and he has a cool “yes im revan im pretty cool” then a nice heartfelt yet rushed reunion with everyone.
then have a small CONVERSATION WITH MEETRA where she talks about the sith triumvirate she defeated and revan is impressed with her and is like “we are the last hope of the jedi, we’ve learned to walk between light and dark, we’ve done horrors but we can still make things right, our experience has made us more powerful etc.
then they fight the imperial guard, ALL OF THEM, meetra revan and scourge make it into the throne room, they all fight the emperor. meetra shows the emperor that she has seen the void, she has cut herself from the force, and she’s not afraid of him, revan supports her, talks about redemption and hope  and NOW.
NOW. how the alternate endings could go:
if you decide to take scourge through the light side, he manages to form a forcebond with meetra and revan since they’ve both teached something about the duality of the force, they get 100% stronger, but its still not enough. UNTIL. a bunch of ships (jedi and mandalorian, even non republic ships) arrive to dormound kaas, the gangs from each game storm the room and together they make the emperor and his guard a bunch of punching bags. they beat him! (unknow to them, this was a backup body because the emperor can do weird shit like that, and has only debilitated his plan, but he’ll come back dont worry). then they fly back to the republic, to tell the chancellor about the sith threat, and preparations for the war begin. meetra and revan get to live happily ever after for a while, then they die away from the jedi or the sith (waaah im thinking about them helping canderous rebuild the mandalorians, and them doing it since they killed so many mandos in the war)
BECAUSE IN THE END KOTOR IS ABOUT LEARNING TO PROCESS TRAUMA AND RECOGNIZE YOUR MISTAKES AND LIVE WITH THE GUILT WHILST TRYING TO FIX THE MISTAKES YOU MADE ALONG THE WAY. AND ALSO TO HEAL FROM TRAUMA YOU NEED A SUPPORT SYSTEM SO EVEN THOUGH IT MAKES SENSE TO YOU YOU SHOULDNT PUSH PEOPLE WHO LOVE YOU AWAY. AND THINGS AREN’T BLACK AND WHITE ITS COMPLICATED SO YOU DONT END UP BACK ON SQUARE ONE YOURE A CHANGED PERSON.
or
if you decide to dark side scourge further, he betrays revan and meetra, they all die, and the emperor unleashes his angry lightning or whatever on everyone + a bunch of visions of all the enemies of past mocking them, and their loved ones suffering. and since you’ve had that “im not calling my friends bullshit” no one comes, you die there, and the emperor is only stalled for a few years. swtor ensues. scourge becomes the emperor’s hand.
now you could of course bring revan and meetra up in swtor, but maybe only as force ghost guides, or have some of the other characters of the game have relevance (visas tries to heal the miraluka planet 2021)
WELL THAT WAS A LOT OF WORDS. HOPE THIS IS SATISFYING ENOUGH

okay i finished arise so here are some thoughts:
(non-spoiler thoughts first, spoilers below the cut)
combat is very fun. everybody is fun to play as. i am bad at game but i still had a ton of fun trying everyone out in the arena
boost artes and strikes are good and useful. mystic artes are real easy to trigger, even advanced ones. i’ve triggered some of the advanced ones by accident, that’s how easy they are
i was dubious about the skit style change at first but i got used to it, and it’s fine.
camping is good and i loved the little scenes you could get between party members
the world is gorgeous. the painting style they went with really just looks amazing.
okay, spoiler time
some specific thoughts on characters first:
alphen: he’s fine. i’ve been spoiled by velvet in all honesty because i love a protag who isn’t all Good and alphen is definitely Good. they did a good job keeping the mystery of his past going and he has a lot of very nice interactions with other party members. he’s fine.
shionne: my wife is a bitch and i like her so much. shionne has a good arc and the way her relationships with each of the party members grows feels really natural. saw the reveal about her thorns coming a mile away but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. i care her and want her to be happy. I especially like her very cute friendship with rinwell
rinwell: baby. rinwell also has a really good arc! the way her opinion on renans changes over the course of the story feels very natural - she doesn’t immediately stop hating renans after meeting shionne and dohalim and even after she grows to love them she still occasionally slips up. she’s good. i like her
law: baby #2. most of law’s story is front-loaded which had him feeling a bit detached as far as the story went in the later chapters but i still very much enjoyed having him around. he’s a sweet idiot. he’s absolutely a teenager.
dohalim: i love him. consistently good interactions with other party members, he has very good scenes with alphen, shionne, and rinwell. i was VERY pleased that he got a lot of focus during the lenegis part of the game. i loved his arc of learning to cope with his guilt and growing from a Ruler into a Leader.
kisara: i wanted to like kisara. i really did. i tried. i kept hoping for a magilou moment (aka a single moment late in the game where everything crystallised and i fell in love with them) but it never came. and i’m sad about that because there are some genuinely cool things about her! there are good bones! she has some really nice interactions with alphen! unfortunately a lot of her scenes end up being either her talking about her brother or her trying to mother everyone and i am just.... not here for that
overall i liked the party. they’re not my fave but i did like almost everyone quite a bit. i felt like their evolution from working together out of necessity to found family way very well done. it was natural. i keep saying “natural” because the arcs really did feel that way. they flowed nicely and almost never felt forced or hurried. it was nice!
now, because this game has basically attempted to pair up all of the party members.... the ship opinions....
alphen/shionne: holy shit tales did a het ship that didn’t feel forced! their relationship flows very nicely and they grow closer slowly over the course of the game. i don’t feel like it’s a luke/tear tier canon ship but it’s good. Them getting married in the end credits was very cute
law/rinwell: very very cute. not entirely sold on rinwell’s feelings but that’s fine, it reads pretty much entirely like law has a crush and has decided that saving the world isn’t really the time to bring that up. it’s cute.
dohalim/kisara: bad. bad. bad. i’m glad it’s just tease because i can pretend it’s not happening. they have some really good platonic moments! they have a nice dynamic as people learning to be equals! it’s extremely uncomfortable to throw romance into that mix! and i feel like it was a *huge* disservice to kisara for the writing to push her into this ship. it just felt bad. not to mention this alongside the haha she’s like his mum jokes just ughghghhghghghghgghhg NO.
as far as the plot goes, it was pretty good. we had a clear goal from the beginning which is always appreciated, only to have the rug pulled out from under us at the end in usual tales fashion. i saw somewhere someone said it had a plot structure sort of like legendia and LMAO TRUE with the one month time skip. the game as a whole reminded me quite a bit of tales of rebirth funnily enough - similar plot structure, themes regarding race dynamics, some nebulous force being the cause of a lot of suffering... it’s a tales plot. it’s not particularly groundbreaking but the characters really carried it and made it compelling. also i just loved the design of the final dungeon. the thorns are Aesthetic.
The main problems I had with the game were the amount of spelling mistakes in the subtitles, or where the subtitles didn't match the dialogue. It's most noticeable with the battle lines but happened in other places too. I didn't have a problem with CP because I kept an eye on it and I was playing easy mode but i can see it being more than a little bit of a pain. Like. Why? And also, just as a side note, did they ever mention how shionne got to dahna? Because I might have just missed it but HOW DID SHE GET HERE? did she come down for the crown contest and just chill for seven years? Did she steal a starship and come down by herself - in which case what happened to her ship that we couldn't use it to get to lenegis? This feels like an important piece of information that we just.... never find out.
speaking of reminding me of other tales: oh boy! there were a lot of times i felt reminded of older titles, which made me real glad i’ve played almost all of them now. i talked about legendia and rebirth vibes above but also MASSIVE graces nostalgia what with going to space. i know twin worlds could be referencing a number of games too but the specific dahna/lenegis/rena structure reminded me a lot of eternia with inferia/orbus barrier/celestia and it was just nice. i can’t remember where? maybe pelegion? but the general aesthetic gave me big xillia vibes. i’m not sure how many of these were deliberately intended to invoke nostalgia but i’m glad for it - it really felt like a love letter to older titles (like zesty was supposed to be) while also clearly moving towards a new future for the series.
I'm not sure how I felt about there not being much of a primary antagonist. I guess it helped push the theme of forgiveness because really how can you blame a sentient planet for everything wrong with the world when it has no concept of human morality. I guess it's just my personal preference since I prefer the conflict to be a clash of ideals or wills (again, I'm spoiled by berseria). The sidequest where you get tiny little bits about the lords felt tacked on too. The lords largely felt cartoonishly evil but I guess that's probably so we don't feel bad killing them lmao. Vholran needed a whole lot more build-up IMO as a foil to alphen because he ended up feeling like he was just... there. There wasn't much to him. I wanted to know more about why he was the way he was but I guess we'll just never know.
overall i wouldn’t say arise is one of my favourite games but it was definitely an enjoyable experience! i’d absolutely recommend playing it yourself if you get the chance!

001 - Kingdom Hearts
Favorite character: On the villain side: VEXEN IS BEST ORGANIZATION XIII MEMBER. Shoulda stayed evil, though. I like it when he complains and screams about everything and hates everyone. He's one of my favorite villains, just, like...in general. So fun to write. Also attached to Demyx, but I actually liked him more in III than II because it reminded me of my rawr lolspeek weeb days when I f/o'd him without knowing what f/o'ing was and then transitioned this to shipping VexDem like heck. On the hero side: MY GIRL KAIRI! But honorable mentions go to Sora, Riku, Aqua, Ven, Terra, Xion, Roxas, Lea, Ienzo, any Disney character I loved beforehand (this is way too fuckin many to list), Merlin (OKAY I WILL SINGLE HIM OUT), Yen Sid (I'LL SINGLE HIM OUT TOO), you know what let's also single out the Mickey+Donald+Goofy power trio...just...any KH hero who isn't part of the Yozora stuff or the KHUX stuff. ...Except I also LOVE Strelitzia, and she is the only KHUX-exclusive kiddo I care about but I care about her MANY. (Oh, and there's a least fave I have who's a "hero" but that's a debatable label). I would go on about why I love all of them but...that's too many characters to elaborate on
Least Favorite character: See, I think the real answer is Yozora, but the thing is I just tend to forget about him or not care (unless I'm doing a weird AU where he's Noctis' bratty Nobody, don't ask). He kinda represents the Shark Jump and I don't like watching that scene where he literally petrifies Sora for not being strong enough. But again, I can just kinda forget about him if he's not fed to me through a social-media unit. The one I LOVE TO HATE is Master Eraqus. The man actually triggered me back in the day. He is purity culture. He is the overbearing parent who will not accept you unless you are perfect. He is by and large the reason VAT didn't communicate with each other properly. He was the one who taught Aqua to think in absolutes. He lied to Ventus for years and then insisted to kill him was the only option, and then, when Terra tried to defend his brother figure/friend without knowing WHY Eraqus was doing such a thing, Eraqus didn't offer an explanation and instead switched targets to Terra citing that the problem was Terra's lack of OBEDIENCE. Eraqus is just very "my way or the highway" and uses his moral high horse to justify doing things that utterly lack compassion in any regard, which is something that GETS to me on a deep level, and let me tell you, I hated him for so long until I realized he was actually a super fuckin fun guy to imagine as a Bigger Bad in AUs that either have the KH protags teaming up or have villain protags needing a "greater good lawful evil" figure. And I just have found too many good memes about him cheating at chess and killing children. I have to laugh. Making fun of him is fun. He's a ridiculous character. That said, this recent trend of "erase everything bad he ever did and paint him as the ultimate hero of the saga" makes me raise eyebrows for SEVERAL reasons
5 Favorite ships (canon or non-canon): VexDem, SoRiku, Kairi x Jaune Arc (RWBY), Aqua x Rosalina (Super Mario Galaxy) x Bayonetta, IsaLea, Ventus x Papyrus (Undertale), that was six but they all needed to be mentioned
Character I find most attractive: Ienzo. HOO BABY he is adorable. I saw someone make a Valentine's Day gifset of KH and FF characters shortly after III dropped and seeing his smiling face paired with a romance quote made my heart FLUTTER
Character I would marry: Probably Ienzo, see above. He's also a very kind guy. Favorite redemption in the modern era.
Character I would be best friends with: I hope the Destiny Trio would adopt me into their friend circle the way they've tended to do with every other inter-world denizen they've come across. I would love to have them as my positivity squad. Or, y'know, two positivities and one "it's okay to screw up" guy. Just. I would love to hang out with them. I often worry that I'm unlikable to my faves, but even though I would usually prefer to hang with the villains, I can pretty much guarantee these three would be open-minded about me. (Do I kiiiiinda wanna be friends with Vexen though? Of course I do. He'd hate me but maaaayyyyybe he would see me as one of his pet idiots who makes him look smarter, and we could bond over our fragile egos?)
a random thought: You ever think about that one NPC lady in Traverse Town who refused to tell you where she was from because it was none of her business? You ever wonder where she WAS from? What her world was like? How she ended up being the survivor of the Ansem Apocalypse when it hit her? All I know is that when I read her lines out loud (I used to read KH speech balloons out loud all the time), I gave her a Southern accent for no discernible reason and I stand by it. That woman has a twang.
An unpopular opinion: I don't want KHUX to be canon because I feel it's smaller-scale and takes a lot of mystery out of the worldbuilding. I always assume that the KHverse just includes ALL worlds in fiction, and that includes their thousand-year histories, meaning the Age of Fairy Tales should've happened long long long LONG LONG LONG ago and not five generations. And whatever screwed up the world should've been more than just five people having a fight, and whatever saved it should've been more than just five people getting along, and Daybreak Town really suffers from having to stick to mobile-friendly graphics and therefore is the least aesthetically attractive KH town ever, and I don't like that Lauriam and Elrena used to be such selfless people. I do still love Strelitzia because she's shy and relatable and quirky (sitting on the roof) and she questions authority and if you go with shipping subtext she's probably bi (or pan?), but I don't like the "Lauriam's dead sister for his arc's drama" bit. I liked when Marluxia was angry because he wanted to run Organization XIII but it was in the hands of an idiot who wasn't him. And more than anything I just like imagining that the Age of Fairy Tales was something bigger, further in the past, and more mysterious than something designed for a mobile game. Scala ad Caelum, however, I like a lot better because there IS a lot of mystery there and also it's a very pretty town with an amazing design.
my canon OTP: I really only count the Disney couples as the "canon" ones, so this is a question of picking my favorite Disney couple that shows up onscreen. I hope I'm not forgetting an important one, but I think the title has to go to Aladdin/Jasmine, which is always perfect in everything. (This would be an ENTIRELY DIFFERENT STORY if KH had ever adapted Treasure Planet, and if it ever gets the mind to adapt Treasure Planet then even if I don't care about that game I will immediately declare that Amelia/Doppler takes the KH canon OTP crown. *taps watch* Get on it Squenix)
Non-canon OTP: SoRiku, which I counted as "basically canon" after DDD until III decided it wasn't sure. But I'm just a sucker for how DDD is the two of them all "HE'S GOT MY BACK AND I'VE GOT HIS AND I'D DO ANYTHING FOR HIM SO LONG AS HE'S HAPPY." It's just the best kind of Friends-to-Lovers, except when you take all canon into account it's Friends-to-Rivals-to-Enemies-to-Friends-to-Lovers and that's a very juicy dynamic. BUT ALSO: VexDem, which is a nostalgia ship SO STRONG I had to accept that it eclipsed my former Vexen ships by a mile and I wanted to go back to my roots. That one, I have a much longer essay about that I'll just have you refer to so I don't repeat myself for pages. To make a long story short, their scene in III was JUST DELICIOUS.
most badass character: OOF THEY'RE ALL BADASS but in the end it's between Sora and Aqua, because Sora gets the widest RANGE of abilities across the series that he masters while Aqua gets the most POWERFUL abilities due to her Mastery (Command Styles seem like they'd be the most OP things ever in-universe and I'm here for it because flashy battle moves make brain go brr).
pairing I am not a fan of: SOKAI, Xehaqus, RikuNami, Vanitas/anyone not evil
character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another): OH BOY. KAIRI THE MOST. YOU ALL KNOW WHY: lack of screen time, Fridging for drama, forced romance to invite death flags (they really wanted to milk that death to get people talking didn't they?), giving Alyson Stoner ZERO direction to actually follow up on Hayden Panettiere's performance. But then I remember that they made Vexen redeem and lose his entire personality and I just...uuugghhhh. I can't believe he died twice in this series. And then Demyx is FUN but also I know he's flipped sides as well, which means he won't be fun much longer! Xehanort seems to switch motivations to whatever makes him the biggest threat (and several of Eraqus' old flaws seem to be mysteriously glued onto him), Sora isn't a motormouth anymore, Riku just doesn't get anyone who cares about him anymore because everyone's distracted by Sora and Kairi, IS ANYBODY GOING TO ADDRESS THE ACTUAL ISSUES THAT DROVE THE WAYFINDER TRIO APART, oh God Marluxia and Larxene you're good guys now what have they done to you
favourite friendship: I really like each of the trios. But you know what's even BETTER than the trios? If you put...all of the trios together...meaning Sora, Riku, Kairi, Mickey, Donald, Goofy, Aqua, Terra, Ven, Roxas, Xion, Lea, Hayner, Pence, Olette...and then you added Isa back in there...and you gave them Ienzo...and you brought back Naminé...and you say that Subject X is Strelitzia and you have her turn back up so she can have justice done...AND YOU HAVE AN ULTRA KEYBLADE GROUP OF FRIENDS. As for Vexen, any purely platonic relationship I have for him is a crossover but trust me I have many crossover pals for he
character I want to adopt or be adopted by: See everyone I listed above in the friendship question. They can either mentor me or let me be their big sis/mom. But also, I will GLADLY be Merlin or Yen Sid's daughter. (But also would I kiiiiinda wanna be a VexDem daughter? This is the worst idea. Still wanna try)

migraine pt. 2 | acute
Tumblr media
rating: mature
word count: 4k
warnings: no smut in this part but!! implied abuse and mentions of trafficking!! cursing and violence as well
a/n: HI JUST A NOTE SAYING FUCK HUMAN TRAFFICKING >:(  it's a super huge problem in my city and i rly wanted to make the reader a protag who fights against it. in this part i wanted to explore more of mando and reader working together on a mission. not a lot of feelings but more so their dynamic as a team.
summary:
“...under my protection.”
When a bounty turns into a rescue mission.
parts 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6
ao3 link / masterlist
“So, tell me about this big quarry again?”
Your exit ramp was down, and Mando stood at the bottom, watching you gather materials from your ship to put in a satchel. He insisted on taking the Razor Crest for this mission, even if The Slipstream was newer and a bit more reliable. You supposed you could let the ship rest and refuel for a few days while you were away.
“His name is Khan Horne from Canto Bight; he’s wanted for running multiple sex trafficking rings throughout the galaxy,” he paused for a second, watching you struggle to grab something from a high shelf.
“I thought you said -” You grunted as you stood on the tips of your toes, “this job was Inner Rim.”
You almost jumped out of your skin when you felt a hand on your shoulder; the Mandalorian was suddenly behind you. Being the gentleman that he was, his free hand reached past your face to pick up the blaster from the shelf up above. It was annoying how that simple action warmed your cheeks.
“It is. Bounty hunters are the New Republic’s last-ditch chance at catching him. That’s why he has such a high reward,” Mando twisted it in his hands, “You still have this?”
You swallowed thickly, “Never found a reason to throw it out.”
The blaster was small and old, but it still held a charge. Mando gave it to you after you found yourself defenseless when your blades found themselves lodged in a wall in the middle of combat. Little did he know, you couldn’t hit anything unless it was less than four paces in front of you. A lot of your free time after that was filled with target practice and drills. You remember your stomach lurching whenever he put his hands on you to change your stance. He had a habit of leaning in close with his hand on the small of your back, the other pointing towards an old Stormtrooper helmet perched on a wall.
Nowadays, you don’t shoot much, but you still took it on every mission just in case.
He handed it back to you, handle first,  “You still a terrible shot?”
You took it and tucked it in your ratty side holster,  “I’m better than you think, old man.”
A part of you hated how easy it was to talk to him after all these years. When you were with him now, it felt futile to stay angry at someone you shared such a deep connection with at some point in your life. But you haven’t forgotten those first days in the Slipstream, makeshift curtains out of your clothes, crying your weight in tears and dealing with one of the worst migraines of your life. You remember heaving bile in the shipyard with how disoriented you were.
Maybe one day, you’ll tell Mando everything you went through after his disappearance. You knew it could crush him; he’d spill out apologies until you were drowning in them. But then again, maybe not. He did leave you stranded on a planet all alone after fooling you into thinking you two would stick together as a team, maybe even more. You couldn’t really tell what he was feeling behind his beskar helmet. He was obviously being soft on you now, but you honestly think it’s because he’s trying to save face for what he’s done to wrong you.
It was all very headache inducing. That was the last thing you needed right now.
When you closed up the Slipstream and boarded the Razor Crest, you expected everything to be pretty much the same. And it was, save for the tiny wrinkly baby cooing in a little floating pod.
“Um, congratulations?” You were only slightly panicking. Who the hell did he have a baby with?
“It’s not mine,” he said, quick to explain, “biologically. That is.”
“Oh.”
“He’s... in my care until I find his people.”
You walk up to him, and raise your hands up to his pod, “May I?”
Mando nodded; at his consent, you gingerly nuzzled his head with your fingers. He gurgled in delight, his big eyes squinting with happiness. He was achingly adorable.
“Hello there,” you introduce yourself, oh so gently, “You must be Mando’s new partner. You must be sick of him already, huh?”
You shoot a pointed smirk at the Mandalorian, and he shakes his head, amused.
Kids were never really something on your radar. They weren’t right for the way you lived. However, every so often (when you’re especially exhausted from bounty hunting), you let yourself dream about a day when you’d eventually settle down in a cottage, one with lots of windows, and on the cliff near an ocean. You would maybe be married, with one or two children to bring up and raise as your own. The windows would be open to let in the ocean air, curtains delicately drifting in the wind, and you would be sipping on a cup of tea with your family softly sleeping around you. Your daydreams were so domestic because you envied people who had such peace; no blaster smoke or iron blood in your mouth. Just a sleepy home with laughing children, sea breeze and sunshine. In another time, you’d imagined Mando there, no helmet or beskar armor. Just him and you and home.
You don’t think about that cottage much anymore.
Pulling yourself out of your thoughts, you turned away from the child to Mando, who was already settling into the pilot’s chair, setting coordinates.
“Jaemai?” You asked, brows furrowed.
“The planet is a big hub for travelers in-transit, especially between Rims,” The Mandalorian
explains, “It’s basically a glorified airport; busy enough to transport people without a trace.”
You lifted the tracking fob off the console, turning it around in your hands, “Is that where he was last spotted?”
“Yes, but with how evasive he is, we’d be lucky to catch him there at all.”
You hum in agreement and take a seat in the co-pilot chair, “We need a plan. With an operation as big as his, he probably has men hired to protect him at all times.”
It was like no time had passed between you two. Discussing strategy was always easy, probably because there weren’t any feelings involved: just a bounty. Much to Mando’s dismay, the two of you decided that his presence in any of the terminals would be highly suspect. It was easier to have you undercover as a young, lonely traveler. Mando would have the high ground in the air traffic control tower, scanning the area just in case Khan takes off.
You looked for clothes that were the least ragged and dirty; many of the people who traveled through Jaemai were dignitaries, senators and the like. (Basically, not dusty bounty hunters like you.) The lack of a utility belt and combat jacket left you struggling to fit any weapons on your person. You were dressed as a doctor and you were able to tuck your blaster so that it would be hidden by your flowing lab coat, but you had to sacrifice your dual blades for small throwing knives under your sleeves. The blades needed to be put elsewhere, which wasn’t ideal in an emergency, but you felt more comfortable having them at all.
“Leave your commlink on the whole time,” Mando advised as he pushed the tracking fob into your hands, “If anything goes south, come back to the Razor Crest immediately and we’ll figure something else out.”
You nodded, sticking the tracking fob in the inner pocket of your lab coat. You took the leather satchel that carried your weapons, and walked down the exit ramp onto the tarmac.
“See you on the other side, Mando,” you say to him
“Y/N,” he called, “Be safe.”
You took a deep breath and kept walking through the gates of the shipyard to catch a shuttle for the departure terminal. Jaemai’s transit system was enormous; it crossed stretches and stretches of land, and you hoped that you wouldn’t need to scour each one to find a single man. The first terminal was reserved for transit in between the Inner Rim and Core worlds; you figured that if Khan had been running circles under the nose of the New Republic, it would be the best place to start.
Three hours later and you haven’t even covered half the terminal. It’s so huge that finding a single man here would take an entire day. He’s definitely here though; the tracking fob took you somewhat closer to the right direction, but he was still able to blend in amongst the crowd. Nausea and pain in your temples were starting to settle in; being in such a loud and cramped space was an easy trigger for a migraine. You scrambled to the nearest refresher, slipping into one of the stalls and shutting the door behind you. Reaching into your satchel, you pulled out the bottle of pain pills and a flask of water.
“Y/N, come in,” Mando’s voice through your commlink startled you into dropping your pills onto the ground, “Is everything okay?”
You groaned, “Yes, I’m fine. Just frustrated. This guy could be anywhere, Mando. I think we need to cut our losses and wait for him to move.”
You heard him sigh, “It would take a few days to refuel depending on where he ends up next. We need to catch him here while we can.”
You rubbed your temples with your fingers; he was right. You needed to pull it together or else you’d probably never find Khan at all. You bend over to pick up the pills on the floor but you freeze at the sound of a sniffle. Is someone crying? Pushing open the door to your stall, you locate the sobs of a girl two doors over.
“Knock on the door.  She’ll tell you what you’re looking for.”
So you knock, “Um, hello?”
Mando is questioning you from the other line, but you ignore him. The door to the stall is unlocked, and you push further. You see a Twi’lek girl frozen and curled up in the corner next to the toilet. Tears were running down her face, and a nasty welt was forming at the corner of her eye. Your heart ached; she couldn’t have been older than 19.
She tensed in her spot, and she looked ready to dash out the door, but you held your hands out in front of you to ease her fear.
“Hey hey, it’s okay. I won’t hurt you, I promise,” you said gently. Mando went silent over the line choosing instead to listen intently.
She stayed still, but refused to speak. Instead, she pushed herself further against the wall behind her. You set your bag down on the floor carefully, and then you took a seat a few paces in front of her.
“My name is Y/N,” you introduced, “What’s yours?”
She still said nothing, sniffling and shifting uncomfortably in the corner.
You tried again, “I’m a doctor. I can help you with your eye. It looks like it hurts a lot.”
You reach into your satchel and pull out your medkit, careful to conceal your blades; you don’t want to scare the poor girl. From the kit, you take out a bacta wipe and hold it out in front of her.
“May I?” you prompt calmly, waiting for her to come to you. And she did. She unfurls from her corner, and slowly crawls towards you. You smile as you gently take her face in your hand, and wipe along the bruised area. The area starts to heal already, and her labored breathing has returned to a normal pace.
She’s looking down at her knees as she whispers, “Aayn’vida”
“That’s a lovely name,” you say. You reach into your bag again, pulling the flask of water and handing it over to her, “Here, drink some water.”
“Thank you,” She croaks as she unscrews the cap and chugs it down.
“Aayn’vida,” you sit up a little straighter, “ Do you mind telling me you did this to you?”
She freezes mid sip and starts to shut down again. Your chest constricts at how afraid she is. “I fell, that's it.”
“You can tell me if you need help. I’m here to help you-”
She shifts again, looking around and suddenly on high alert, “What is that beeping?”
You’re caught off guard, “What?”
“Your jacket. It’s beeping. Is that a tracking fob? Are you here to take me too?”
Your heart rate starts to pick up. If the fob is beeping, that means Khan is close. You scramble for a response that won’t scare Aayn’vida away because it’s abundantly clear to you that she’s involved with this whole situation.
“No! No, it’s just a pager,” you reassure her, “It’s just telling me I’m going to depart in an hour, but I won’t leave you unless you’re okay.”
She doesn’t seem convinced. You try to wrack your brain again to save face, but then a loud banging comes from the door. Your tracking fob is beeping even louder now. Aayn’vida seems to react automatically to the loud knocking at the door, springing upwards. “I’m sorry, ma’am but I need to leave,” she quickly stammers, pushing through the stall and striding towards the door.
“Wait!” You grab her arm, “Aayn’vida, I can protect you. You just need to tell me what’s going on.”
She’s on the verge of tears again. She whimpers “You can’t; he’ll kill you and then he’ll kill me too. He’s evil and-”
You grip her shoulders and steady her as another angry stream of knocks come again. “Who is ‘he’? What is his name?”
“Khan. Khan Horne."
--
Mando’s voice suddenly cut through your commlink, “I’m coming over. Keep the girl safe.”
“Okay. Be careful. I’ll meet you at the Razor Crest”
She looked at you, eyebrows furrowed. The knocks came again, and they were growing increasingly louder and heavier. It only panicked Aayn’vida more.  You look her in the eyes again, and hold her shoulders tighter.
“Aayn’vida, I’m going to need you to pay close attention to me, do you understand?” You speak to her firmly and quickly,  “Stay behind me and under any circumstances do not leave my side.”
She nods, and watches intently as you secure the satchel to your person and pull the tracking fob from your coat. The beeping is echoing off the walls of the bathroom; it’s deafening.
“He’s right outside the door.”
Your head pounds at every knock at the door, but for Aayn’vida’s sake, you keep up your strength.
You hold her hand as you open the door, and you’re met face to face with Khan Horne, an incredibly well kept man dressed in an expensive suit. He scowls at the sight of Aayn’vida cowering behind you.
“What is the meaning of this?” His voice is grating. It feels like knives against your skin, “Who are you? What are you doing with my daughter?”
You bore daggers into his bronze brazen eyes, “I’m afraid that’s none of your concern, sir.”
“This is preposterous!” he snarled, “Hand her over immediately or I’ll make you pay, sweetheart.”
He slams his hands against the door frame in an attempt to intimidate you, moving in closer to gain the upper hand. You’re quicker than him though; in an instant, you have a small knife to his throat, digging it ever-so slightly deeper.
“Unfortunately, for you Mr. Horne, Aayn’vida is now under my protection. ”
“You bitch, ” He hisses at you, blood trickling at the fresh wound in his neck.
You push forward out of the bathroom and edge the girl into the hallway, keeping your blade trained at Khan until the two of you can slip out into the terminal crowd. You grip her hand and begin rushing towards the nearest exit. As the two of you push through the droves of travelers, you immediately notice men moving quicker towards you.
“Mando?” You call, pressing the link closer to your ear, “His men, they’re everywhere.”
You hear him grunt on the other line, “They’re out here too. Don’t try and fight them, just get outta there.”
Khan’s men were flanking all around you, inching in closer and you’re trying not to panic. Your brain is pounding and yelling at you to find a solution. You can’t take all of them by yourself. If you tried, Aayn’vida would end up taken again, Khan would disappear and your body would be dumped on a tarmac.
“Think, think, think.”
And then you see it along the far wall, a fire alarm. You take the knife you used against Khan in your dominant hand
“Maker, give me something.”
You throw, and it lands perfectly, shattering through the glass and straight to the switch. Water and cooling steam rains from the ceiling, as if it were falling from the heavens. The terminal spirals into chaos with civilians yelling and scrambling to get to evacuate. Khan’s men are thrown for a loop. Your grip on Aayn’vida’s hand tightens, and you sprint towards the exit.
“Mando!” You plead through the comm link, “Get to the ship! We need to go!”
“Y/N! H-h-ell-?” Your heart plummets to your stomach when the line fizzles dead. In your stress, you scream a curse and rip the earpiece off and toss it to the ground. Khan and his men are still in tow and you need to keep going, Mandalorian with you or otherwise.
“Sorry! I need this,” you push an unsuspecting droid off a speeder, and take it for yourself, heaving Aayn’vida behind you, “Hold on!”
You take off at full speed and before you know it, you’re both running through the shipyard.
You rush up to the bay door of the Razor Crest, banging loudly and yelling for Mando to open up. Your chest stomach lurches when no one answers.
“I believe you have something of mine, doctor. ”
You whip around, pushing Aayn’vida behind you against the ship and arming yourself with another throwing knife. Khan has two of his men flanking him, both with blasters trained on you and the girl. Your head was searing with pain.
“Drop it, sweetheart,” his skeevy voice chided, “You’re clearly outnumbered three to one.”
You smirked, “I like those odds.”
“Hey, that’s his line.”
Khan Horne’s face soured at your indifference, “You’re partner isn’t here, bounty hunter! My men are taking the Mandalorian down as we speak.”
“You clearly underestimated him then,” you taunt, stalling for time, “He’s the best in the parsec, didn’t you know?”
He’s getting impatient, you can tell. Khan raises his hand and his men take aim.
“Wait!” You hold your hands up, “If you can triple the bounty on your head, I’ll let her go and you won’t hear from me again.”
Aayn’vida rustles nervously behind you. Khan stops his men and takes a second to think over your offer. He narrows his eyes at you in apprehension, “What is keeping me from killing you and taking her myself?”
“The New Republic will always send hunters your way. I can clear your name in the Guild with Greef Karga and guarantee your immunity,” You try to keep your voice from shaking. You know you couldn’t actually clear his name, but he didn’t know that, “Just give me the credits and say the words.”
The thirty seconds he takes to think your offer over feel like an eternity.
And then, by some miracle, he says, “Very well then. Cuff her for me, will you?”
He waves off his men and they lower their aim.
You turn around and guilt overwhelms you when you see the fear and shock in Aayn’vida’s eyes. You’re terrifying her. As you open your satchel to reach for the cuffs, you briefly show her the hilts of your weapons. You give her a knowing look and hope she understands.
“Trust me.”
You slip both hilts up into one your sleeves, and hold them in a way where they wouldn’t be seen by Khan and his men. You then put the cuffs around Aayn’vida’s wrists, and turn around striding forward, gently pulling the girl by her restraints. Khan has already put the credits in a box, and he’s stupid enough to hand it off to you first.
You take the box and deck him in the face as you push Aayn’vida back towards the Razor Crest. You command her to take cover as you finally unsheathe your dual shock blades from their retractable sheath. His men are quick to take aim, but you’re quicker. You drop to the ground to swipe at the left man’s legs. He cries in pain, electrocuted and stumbling over himself. You slash his chest and kick him backwards.
You yell when you feel a hot surge rip through your right side, and you curse yourself for nearly forgetting about the man on the right. With all your strength, you launch your left blade into his shoulder, pinning him against the concrete wall behind him. You raise your other sword to deliver a final blow, but the click of a blaster makes you freeze.
“That’s enough! ” Khan’s voice is unhinged, “I’ve had enough of you, you fucking whore. I’m not just going to kill you; I will break you. I will throw you to the ugliest creatures in this galaxy and let you rot!”
“That won’t be necessary.”
Another blaster click. Mando’s smooth voice sounded like a song from an angel. Relief washed over you like an ocean wave. You dropped your hands to the side, and turned to Khan with a victorious grin.
“He can bring you in warm, or he can bring you in cold.”
You knew the Mandalorian was smirking under that shining beskar helmet.
Khan cursed loudly, finally accepting defeat. He dropped his blaster to the ground, and Mando roughly pulled his wrists to bind them. You trudge over to Aayn’vida, unlocking her restraints.
“Sorry I gave you such a scare back there,” you say, holding out your hand for her to take “I really didn’t know what to do.”
“It’s okay. You did what you had to,” She croaks. As you go to pull her up, however, a sharp pain shoots through your waist and you cry out.
“Dr. Y/N, you’re bleeding!” Aayn’vida cries as she catches you and loops your arms over her shoulders.
Any relief that you felt at the Mandalorian’s return and the capture of the bounty quickly dissipated when you looked down at your side. You could feel that your skin was singed, and red was seeping through your godforsaken lab coat and dripping further down your legs. Your head is crescendoing with pain, and black is creeping into the corners of your vision. You haven’t felt a blaster wound with a migraine before; Aayn’vida is hastily hobbling you to the ramp of the Razor Crest. Her words are becoming garbled; you hear her call out for Mando. You think he said your name.
The last thing you see are the shadows of his beskar helmet, and the last thing you feel are his leather gloves, scooping you up and carrying you up the ramp into the ship. He says your name over and over again, and you make out only a few of his words.
“Stay with me.”
“Y/N, please.”
He’s setting you on his bunk, stripping you of your lab coat, and spraying the area with bacta spray. You wail at the agonizing sting, and your vision is completely blurring over. You were in so much pain. You feel leather fingers against your cheek; he’s wiping away tears you didn’t know were falling.  He’s shushing you softly as he ties your lab coat around your waist as a temporary gauze.
“Sssh, lay down ,” he whispers as he gently eases you down onto a bed, “You’ll be okay, cyar’ika.”
The bed is his. You thought he brought you to your old bunk, but it’s his. You know it.
“It still smells the same.”

All the 2020 kdramas I am interested in (and a few I am not)
DEFINITE
365: One Year Against Destiny (MBC) - I am excited to see Lee Joon Hyuk get a lead role and Nom Ji Hyun needs to work more. Plus, time travel!!!!
Alice (SBS) - Joo Won is back in what looks like a complicated tale of love and time travel and noona romance. YESSS!
The Allies - Time for a Green Hero (KBS) - weird title, but a sageuk about the hero growing into a leader against the Japanese invasion sounds up my alley before his, I am sure, inevitable demise.
Can This Person Be Translated (tvN) - Hong Sisters dramas don’t always work for me, but they always get an automatic look-see.
Eighteen Again (jTBC) - I love Kim Ha Neul and I hope it’s a steamy romance for all those “she is tooooo old for her leading man (Lee Do Hyun)” naysayers.
Half of a Half (tvN) - Park Hae Jin and Chae Soo Bin as an OTP yesss.
Here - Noh Hee Kyung is beyond amazing as a writer and the cast (Lee Byung Han, Han Ji Min, Shin Min Ah, Nam Joo Hyuk) is insane!
Hyena (SBS) - Joo Ji Hoon!!!!! And the teaser looked slick.
Idol Doctor - an idol who sleepwalks and his doctor is a premise that would have made 14 year old me scream in glee.
Itaewon Class (jTBC) - I have developed quite a thing for Park Seo Joon recently, I love revenge, and there is gonna be food! Bring it on!
I Will Find You On a Beautiful Day (jTBC) - Park Min Young, Seo Kang Joon, Lee Jae Wook? I need to look no further. But it also sounds like a healing slice of life romance, yum.
The King: the Eternal Monarch (SBS) - Lee Min Ho in a heroic fantasy tale penned by Kim Eun Suk, and also with Kim Go Eun and Woo Do Hwan in the cast? It’s my dream come true.
Memoir of the Man (MBC) - I like the leads a lot (Kim Dong Wook and Moon Ga Young) and I have discovered that romances with odd premises (he remembers everything, she forgets most important moments) tend to work really well for me.
The Most Beautiful Moment in Life (tvN) - second chance romances with older protags are my fave thing, and when it stars Lee Bo Young and Yoo Ji Tae - my heart!!!
Oddball (MBN) - description is hella confusing but I always check out all the sageuks.
Psycho But It’s OK (tvN) - “ A man who denies love and a woman who doesn’t know love defy fate and fall in love, finding their souls and identities in the process. “ Yes please. Also, Kim Soo Hyun doesn’t do anything for me (I know I know) but he always picks good dramas.
Sandbox (tvN) - Suzy and Nam Joo Hyuk in what sounds like a sweet romance. I happen to like both - they have a warm on-screen vibe and good chemistry with their costars. Also (and that is not a slam), a sweet-natured romance sounds like something that plays to their strengths and avoids their limitations (thoughts of either in an intense melo or sageuk would give me hives, but there they will be perfect.)
Ssanggab Cart Bar (jTBC) - a food stall for the dead? Color me intrigued enough to want to check it out; plus Hwang Jung Eum usually has a very good taste for picking dramas.
The Story of Gumiho (tvN) - Lee Dong Wook as a male gumiho! Jo Bo Ah as his eventual lady love! Fantasy and romance and a very happy Mousie!
Superstar Miss Lee - heroine and another lady swap souls, there is a chaebol possibly played by Yoo Seung Ho, etc etc. Sometimes I am just in the mood for a good, old-school crazy drama.
Train (OCN) - yes, an OCN drama made it on the list, is it a parallel world? Nope, but a parallel world where OCN makes romances may be involved since it stars Kim Jae Wook (OMG yes) as a detective trying to protect his dead love in a parallel world where she is alive. Will miracles never cease?
Welcome (KBS) - and the award for the most insane premise goes to!!! L is a cat (!!!!) who, and I quote, “mastered the art of transformation into human form.” He hooks up with his owner (!!!!!????!!!!) There is so much insanity in this, that I am already riveted, though not necessarily in a good way.
Youth Report (tvN) - I know little about that one but Park Bo Gum has consistently picked dramas I like.
MAYBE
City of Stars: no idea if this one is happening but Ji Chang Wook playing an astronaut sounds interesting. Though he doesn’t always pick the best dramas (hello there, the awful Melt Me), he’s always fun to watch!
Danjong, the Young King (MBC) - any sageuk is at least a try but I literally found zip about this one.
The Game: Towards Zero (MBC) - honestly, the yes/no will depend on whether there is a romance. Someone who can see a dead person’s last moments pairing up with a lady detective to solve serial murders is very far out of my jam (and someone give Im Joo Hwan a leading role dammit, the man is wasted playing the inevitable serial killer) but Taecyeon is adorable even if not the best actor and I would brave this genre if he and Lee Yeon Hee (an underrated girlcrush of mine) are allowed to be a couple.
Late Night Snack Man and Woman (SBS) - bizarre title but I am fond of Sung Hoon despite his less than consistent choice of projects and a conman (who hopefully gets redeemed) sounds fun. I also think the hero pretends to be gay (!?!?!) which I haven’t seen as a major plot point since Personal Choice which could either be fun or bad, who knows.
Memorist (tvN) - I like to watch Yoo Seung Ho but I don’t care for mysteries. Still, it’s on tvN so maybe there will be romance.
Money Game (tvN) - banking and money scheming rarely works for me, but sometimes can be a smart thing, plus I have got to check out Go Soo being back on my screen!
Penthouse (SBS) - the insane writer of The Last Emperor and Temptation of Wife. An experienced cast of my favorites with Lee Ji Ah, Shin Sung Rok and Eugene. It will most likely be a trainwreck I will ditch halfway but hope springs eternal.
The Search (OCN) - the star of Nokdu in the DMZ? Yes!!! But OCN does no romance so my enthusiasm is diminished.
Secret - I like Park Hae Jin and Jo Bo Ah well enough, but mainly because I am damn curious if this baby will ever air!
So I Married an Anti-Fan - this a prefilmed drama that seems to find a home nowhere which means its probably not good, but the premise of an idol having to shack up with his anti-fan for publicity is too amusing for me not to at least want to peek if it actually does air.
Touch (Channel A) - I have an oddly hormonal attraction to Joo Sang Wook (I love the really sexy middle manager look, sue me!) but idols and make-up artists and all that are not necessarily my jam. It depends on the execution.
Unique: Chef Moon - I love Eric to bits but when I start reading the description of a chef dedicated to organic cooking, I start to fall asl...zzzzzzzzz.
WHHHHYYYYY
Hi Bye Mama - I adore Kim Tae Hee, but the premise of a dead wife and mother who comes back for 49 days to her grieving family, presumably including sad children and husband who is only now beginning to recover sounds like one only a genuine masochist could love.
My Holo Love (netflix) - a lonely woman hooks up with an AI. Between the fact that Absolute Boyfriend poisoned me for an AI romance forever, the fact that the heroine has face blindness (isn’t that so 2018?), and that the description includes the extraordinarily maudlin “drama is filled with stories of heartbreaking loneliness and tear-stained love,” I will pass.
Que Sera Sera - out of sheer trainwreck curiosity because I adore the original and why remake a drama that’s only a bit over a decade old, and with relative newbies.
What’s Happened in Bali - if it ever gets made that is (please no.) The original is amazing but they are not repeating the Jo In Sung - So Ji Sub - Ha Ji Won casting miracle and there is no need for a remake; plus this drama is something that makes sense in 2005 but less so in 2020 and just generally leave a classic alone, people.

pregame!Kaito goes for his interview. There’s more than was shown on the tape.
warnings for mentions of abuse, homophobia, and depression/caregiver fatigue
[Read on AO3]
Kaito's breath came out in short, heavy huffs, heart pounding as if he'd just run a marathon. Across from him, the head interviewer's only response was to quirk an eyebrow.
"That was quite the passionate display. But you can stop lying now."
Panic flickered in his chest, and Kaito's immediate response was to double down. "Wha--No! I meant what I said!"
She was unfazed. "Now now, don't get so defensive. I understand, you're just saying what you think we want to hear. You must really want to participate in the next season of Danganronpa, huh?" She gave him a warm smile, no trace of mockery in the curl of her lips. "So that's why I want to hear your real reason. I want to find real fans, not just those who are looking to feed their bloodlust."
She leaned forward, chin on her palms. "So, tell me about your life. What drew you to Danganronpa?"
Kaito hesitated. A torrent of conflicted emotions rushed through his body, filling every crevice with the desire to run away. He didn't have to answer. He could leave, return to his daily life as if he'd never even applied in the first place.
... The idea seized his heart with the icy grip of despair.
He averted his eyes and swallowed. It took another few minutes to get any words out, but she was patient, saying nothing as the room was consumed in an awkward silence.
"Have you ever regretted meeting someone?"
She didn't answer his question, and that was probably for the best--it was rhetorical anyway. He continued. "Dad worked in one of those office jobs where he regularly put in twelve hour days. He'd come home and take his stress out on everything in our two-bedroom apartment. At first, it was just the furniture, but then... Well, it escalated.
"Apparently he caught Mom with another man one day. He came home in a rage, breaking anything she owned or used regularly. Wasn't much, since she'd given up on replacing stuff he broke in earlier fits." He paused, taking a deep breath to prepare himself. "When he ran out of stuff, he turned on me. It... It was the first time he'd beaten me. Probably 'cause Mom was always protecting me."
He clenched his fists. "... She never came back. Last I heard, she filed for divorce then married the other guy. Never came to rescue me--guess it was too much trouble." It still hurt, and talking about it was like sticking his hand into a pile of smoldering ashes.
"Managed to live with him for a few years. Middle school was hell though. I spent as much time out of the house as I could to stay out of his way--of course, without being out so long that he got mad about that too. Studied a lot, got into a good high school. Thought the business school I chose would make him happy." He shook his head. "Always seemed like nothing would make him happy though."
As he poured his heart out into the open, she nodded along. He was glad that despite her having a notepad in front of her, she didn't write anything about what he was saying.
He pushed onward. "Got curious in high school. About... About other guys. You know?" He sighed, scratching the back of his head. "I, uh, looked up some stuff on the internet, and didn't clear my search history. Never been that good with computers, didn't even think about it.
"So he found out, and reacted by beating the shit outta me. As if that would fix whatever was wrong with my head or something. He ended up breaking my nose." He paused, tracing the crooked cartilage. "I was cowering on the floor--hoping he would stop kicking me, blood dripping everywhere--and I just... had this sudden realization that I was done."
He inhaled, then slowly exhaled. "I left that night and never went back. Should've done that long before, but... He was my dad, you know? I knew he just had a lot goin' on. It's still hard to blame him, even though I know it wasn't right."
At some point, a bottle of water was placed in front of him. He finally took it into his hand, cracking the lid off with a sharp twist and downing a third of it. He still had more to say, so his throat was thankful for the cool, refreshing sensation it brought.
Honestly, he hadn't expected to spend so much time talking about his dad. Perhaps it was because he never really had the opportunity to get all those emotions out properly.
"Anyway, so I ended up taking myself to the hospital after throwing some essentials in a bag. I was sittin' in the waiting room, plugging my nose with a tissue, and that's... That's when I met him. Ouma Kokichi."
If he hadn't started to zone out, lost in his memories, he might've noticed how her hand twitched towards her pen--ultimately, she didn't pick it up, but her eyes shone with interest as the conversation shifted.
"He was havin' this panic attack or something, and so I started talkin' to him to help him calm down while we waited. And, well, I thought he was kinda cute, so... When we both got released at the same time too, it kinda felt like fate, you know? One thing led to another, and we decided to rent this crappy one-bedroom apartment together."
He sighed. "I dunno, things just got so intense so fast. Like don't get me wrong, I care about him a lot, like, a lot a lot. But... It's hard. I ended up dropping out of school so that I could work and pay for our apartment."
"What about him?" she asked, her first question finally breaking the flow of his monologue.
Kaito frowned. "He... He can't really go outside all that much. It stresses him out, so he stays inside unless he really has to leave. But he's doing some online school stuff, so..."
She hummed. "Sounds unfair. You have to do all the heavy lifting while he gets to complete his coursework at his leisure. Say, how many hours are you working?"
"Uhh..." He hadn't quite thought about it. "I have a few different part time jobs. They don't really like hiring high school aged teens full time. Labor laws and all that. But... it's probably more than 40 hours a week, if I had to guess."
She nodded. "So after the stress started to build up, you turned to escapism?"
The accuracy of her statement nerved him out. "... I guess you could put it like that. There was a used copy of that spin-off game, uh, Ultra Despair Girls. Never really played Danganronpa, but the back said something about destroying those weird bears, Monokumas or whatever, and... It was kinda appealing, for the action aspect." He scratched the back of his neck. "Didn't expect it to be so... relatable. Ended up bawling like a baby on my couch at four in the morning because of that first boss battle.
"So, uh, I decided to give the series a chance. Haven't seen a lot, just the games really. Watching other people play them is free, after all. Usually just listened while I worked--that was really the only time I could find for it." He couldn't watch it at home, after all; Kokichi hated anything to do with Danganronpa, and the thought of being told off for consuming it made Kaito's heart feel like it was going to rip itself in two.
"It was like... Even though I wasn't personally playing it, I could tell why it was so popular. It really does bring hope to people, makes 'em see that even they can make a difference. Got me thinking the same thing after a while."
He gave her a wry smile. "But I guess you've sorta guess that it didn't work out like I wanted it to." She didn't respond, but that was fine. "I thought if I worked hard enough, maybe I could help Kokichi. I tried to ease all his worries and take care of him so he could focus on getting better. But..."
He shook his head. "It just... never happened. Again, nothing I did was good enough. I just... I just wanna be able to help people, to be good enough for once in my life. So when I saw that you guys did these live action DR games, well... I just started thinking about how nice it would be if I was able to fix everything like one of those protags in the games. Befriend others, watch them grow in a positive way instead of staying stagnant... Sounded a whole lot better than the daily grind."
He let out a shallow laugh. "Horrible, isn't it? Running away from my responsibilities for such a selfish reason. It'll break my grandma's heart if I end up dying, after all. But..." He trailed off, biting back the truth that death sounded better than returning to his fatigued life just outside the room.
She once again hummed, and finally moved to pick up her pen. She clicked it, but didn't write anything when she brought it to the paper. "So, what you would want is to help others achieve their true potential? To make them feel like they can do anything? A cool, mentor type... Hm... I could definitely see a place for you."
Despite himself, when she wrote HERO on the paper, his heart swelled with genuine hope.

The Tales series if you haven't gotten it already
Favorite character:
Undeniably goes to Yuri and Velvet. What can I say? I’m into the dark-haired protagonists that ‘aren’t like the others.’ I can get onboard with why they come to the conclusions they do even if I don’t think it’s write. With Yuri, I admire the ability to do when others cannot. And can’t deny, he made me laugh the most with his sense of sarcasm and panache. Plus that voice...Troy Baker, they did you dirty. Meanwhile with Velvet I was like ‘yes, let’s be married in this quaint little town together’ in the beginning. She was just cute. Then it became attraction of ‘I don’t give a damn what happens to this world so long as I get what I want’ and ferocity.
Least Favorite character:
Emeraude. Like what the fuck is your problem lady? You’re getting jealous of a child. Your feelings towards someone should be directed towards that person, not abusing some third-party that doesn’t even understand what you two have going on.
Cumore. Fuck him too. For a side character that you don’t even really fight, he’s a real ass that his death was catharsis. Pure catharsis. There was no a single moment that he showed any redemption. He was a cruel bastard that held no regard for human life. He was willing to make excuses for anyone under him to get in trouble. He lied to people to enslave them and work them to death. He dragged people into the desert to look for an impossible item and left them without resources to die. Fuck him so much. He might’ve been cartoonishly evil compared to some not nice guys but those actions translate to atrocities.
5 Favorite ships (canon or non-canon):
Selfish Coexistence (Basically the Berseria Party) - Their relationships seem so hard to define to me as they all use each other for various reasons. They also seem to develop care through their selfishness and all of the either are like *shrug* guess we’re doing this now or ‘what is this I’m feeling?’ ‘emotions?’ ‘disgusting.’ There’s an understood protection amongst all of them and then a fierce rationalization for their action rather than saying ‘because I like you okay!’ They’re very smart yet they’re all dumbasses and I love them all.
Ludju - You know what’s better than one adorkable dumbass? Two adorkable dumbasses. I like Ludger and Jude’s relation better than any I have unlocked during the story. Jude by nature is very caring but it just is different with Ludger? Main thing I can note is that Jude touches Ludger a lot. Like a firm, ‘I’m right here’ shoulder touch. A nudge in the arm. Catching when about to faint. And I just don’t see Jude do the same with anyone in his party in either game.  I just find their interactions from the extra scenes are really cute.
Velvet/Niko - “If you were a boy, I think I’d be in love.” Gurl she don’t have to be a boy to kiss fall in love. Shipping a Main Character with an NPC? Is it madness? Absolutely. But I had feelings about that from the very beginning. Like this could’ve been so fucking sweet. Could’ve had it all. And then the Advent happened.
Alvin/Presa - Oh man. Ooooh man. This was just a curiosity on the way of Tale’s of Xillia’s path. Like it was a lady that lent to Alvin’s skeevy or ladykiller vibe he gave off. And it was like was she just a jilted one-time or something else? And the answer seemed like ‘something else’ but didn’t know what. It was a little ‘wonder how that went...’ Then you do Tales of Xillia 2 and I thought I was wrecked. Because it reframes so much of their interaction to a really sad relationship that fell apart because Alvin was a coward.
Flynn/Yuri/Judith - Haha! Didn’t expect the end part of this one did you? I think everyone knew I liked Fluri. Like their dynamics are so interesting. But I really do enjoy Judy being involved. I’m really sad that Judy and Flynn don’t get much interaction even in the PS3 version but I don’t find it hard for them to get along. But I do usually see that more times it’s Flynn and Judy dating Yuri and their relationship changes over time.  They can scrap together, they can travel together, and not needing as much talking to get what anyone means. I find it hard to describe this one but I feel it.
Character I find most attractive:
Yuri and Velvet are like the reflexive thoughts. But I actually really also like Jude and Judy. I mean look at this cute little nerd, he’s adorable! And then there’s hot elf lady that she could kick me in the face and I’d thank her. In general you can probably guess my type from those four.
Character I would marry:
Probably Yuri. I’m sorry that this is my answer to so many but he is like my type to a T and it’s just ruined so many standards for me. Like a funny guy that is good at cooking (and has a sweet tooth!) and can go venturing with? What else is there? I mean yeah there’s the hair and voice but that’s like given. But yeah, I’m a basic bitch with that.
Character I would be best friends with:
Eizen, if that’s a bit surprising. Sure he’s a bit of an edgelord but I feel like I’ve never left it so he’s already doing better than I. But I like the idea of sailing on the ship with him there, probably not gonna be able to let me struggle for that long. He’s funny with a dry sense of humor to me and also he’s a low-key nerd that knows a lot of things and likes finding new and interesting things. So yeah.
And as much as I give shit about him, I actually think I would be friends with Sorey. He’s the kind of excitable that makes others excited and that’s kind of what I do. So we’d kind of excite each other. And so long as it’s not spelunking, I’m down for going exploring.
a random thought:
What defenses occur with the end of blastia? Barriers were what repelled monsters from most of the inhabited areas in Terca Lumireis. Dahngrest and Zaphias look to have fortresses that can hold back most land beasts. But there are other places. What stops the monsters now? Will they go towards more mana based works?
Also, someone also mentioned, does ANYONE know how to do medical work? Like actually patching up injuries? How to care for someone in sickness? Healing artes were what were used! They can’t use blastia anymore! What happens now?
Can there be a history of how things changed from Berseria to Zestiria? Mainly the shifting of how malevolence works from turning people to reflect their sinister nature to straight up monsters with no sense? How the Shepherd thing went to include the malak as much as it does. The change from malak to seraphim. Just...how did we geeeetttttt heeeerrreeeeee.
An unpopular opinion:
I fucking hate that I had to be told from other friends that actually could find the material or read the fucking wiki to understand the dynamics of the Kresnik family. Ludger has a LOT of fucking baggage that we don’t even get to hear anything about! Partially because he’s silent and partially because ‘oh he was young so he conveniently forgot?’ And a lot of it was important to the last half of the story! That’s bullshit! And even further bullshit is that there was no reason they couldn’t have found time to put it in the game but they chose not to.
Tales can’t make a fun last level to save their lives. I haven’t enjoyed a single final level in any of the games I’ve played. I don’t mind doing puzzles for it but straight up spiraling branches full of dead ends is frustrating. ESPECIALLY FUCK XILLIA 2′s! Randomly generated based off those in the party and then you can’t even see when a path is not truly there so you can follow the path and then all of suddenly blank ground, meaning dead end you have back up and retrace another path. And then like Berseria’s made me feel nauseous from the ‘ethereal’ look it was going for. And just made it hard as fuck to see. And more of this awful tower climbing. I just...mmmmmmm, I will probably always enjoy the game until the final level exists. I swear.
My Canon OTP:
Uuuuuuhhhhhh I don’t think I have one.
My Non-canon OTP:
Most protags x happiness?
Most Badass Character:
Don Whitehorse. He was like definition of like ‘stubborn old man’ but man was he cool. He was staunch in the honor of the guilds under his control and was proud of what he and other had built up with their own hands. Also you don’t often see a man willing to sacrifice his life to right a wrong done by his own.
Most Epic Villain:
Gaius. Like me and my friend were like ‘what the fuck’ when we were co-oping Xillia together. Like this was a king that meant business! Mhm. .
Pairing I am not a fan of:
Most of the pairings are fine to me.
Character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another):
Sorey. I’m sure I’ve gone on this so many times but I really hated that they kept alluding to him having to make hard decisions but whenever one was brought to him, someone else took it for him. Like if his job is that important and it’s expected to make these choices, THEN LET HIM MAKE THEM. I was so angry over that. I spent the entire game waiting for when they’d do a major point where Sorey had no choice but to step up.
Favourite Friendship:
Alvin & Elize - I really like how much they have both grown from each other. And how when Alvin broke her trust that he had to live with her mistrust and work to earn it back. Their friendship had uneasiness that seemed hopeful at the end of the first game and turned to just banter and teasing by the second. Growth baby, it’s wonderful.
Character I most identify with:
Mmmmm, probably Ludger. Look at all that debt. Can’t do nothing but cry over it.
Character I wish I could be:
Yeah, no. JRPG rules means everyone has some fucked up shit in their past or coming for them. I’m fine over here.

[[stats]]
my leon is canon-divergent and has established relationships with a few other muses from the same universe. [no, i don’t play exclusives.] main differences between him and canon include: he was endorsed by kabu, met rose after he became champion, never took the position of league chairman, and has since sold the battle tower.
stats:
full name: leon tarak malik [middle name is not public knowledge] official title: Himbo Twunk Supreme duplicates nickname: pecha parents: tarak [father, deceased] and laleh [mum... she’s doing her best] race: pakistani, persian gender: cis male orientation: openly gay. queer kids need good role models. age: 24 birthday | sign: dec 4 | sagittarius height: 6’ weight: ~200lbs / ~90kg build: dorito with tiddy the man works out and has good muscle mass but he’s not exactly a bodybuilder. these guns are made for hugging. voice claim: here nature | characteristic: naive | likes to fight
personality n behavior stuff:
- full of himself, but not in an “i’m better than you” way. unless you’re raihan
- ALTERNATIVELY: he does experience self doubt, pretty frequently these days, he just tends not to show it.
- hyperaware of his public image. always well behaved, positive, and poised in the public eye.
- epitome of “how do i adult.” growing up a child celebrity, pretty much everything was done for him and his life was controlled by the league and later, rose.
--- he knows how to behave in public and on TV, how to entertain crowds, etc, but has almost no interpersonal social skills and knows next to nothing about how to take care of himself. can't cook. doesn't know how to file taxes or fucking dress himself. etc etc
- he knows his weaknesses. and he’s kind of jealous of people who have their shit together.
- still largely a kid at heart. he’s optimistic to the point of being rather gullible.
--- he genuinely believes that people have good intentions and that anyone can become strong if they try.
--- he’s also easily swayed, especially if someone is trying to convince him of the "right" thing to do. he’s a people pleaser with a heart of gold, so he’ll do the thing that sounds the most helpful!
- he’s taking his loss a lot harder than he lets on. but still acknowledges that it was one of the best things to ever happen to him. feelings are hard, man.
- in person, privately [as opposed to public appearances] he’s a little on the quiet side. comes across as an idiot often but really is just stuck in his head a lot.
--- he’s also the definition of a clown. acts dumber than he really is just to make people laugh. arceus, does he love to make people happy.
health:
- physically fit. physically fit. physically physically ph --
--- he has a weakened immune system. doesn’t really know it yet.
--- his body also heals at about half the pace it should, be it from injury, working out, etc... he has started noticing this but doesn’t understand why it’s happening.
--- he’s physically sensitive to poison types. he gets weak and sickly the longer he spends around them -- which he doesn’t usually, because he’s developing a phobia of them and tends to avoid them.
- diagnosed adhd
--- blame his lack of directional awareness on that shiny thing over there
--- ... and on his inability to tell left from right:
- diagnosed dyslexia
--- the advent of rotom phones was a godsend. speech to text is his best friend. so are audiobooks.
--- but he would rather die than read, write, or do physical paperwork.
- diagnosed depression
--- has tried to seek counseling at the request of his loved ones. tried and couldn’t go in galar, but he’s been talking to someone on call from another region.
- still mentally working out that he was manipulated by rose. doesn’t know how to feel about it. he has a lot of thoughts.
- has caffeine sensitivity. the best he can do is 1 cup of black tea a day, which is tragic, really.
important history bits:
age 7: hop was born! he’s baby!!!!!
10: gym challenge!! champion time, babey!!!!
--- he was endorsed by kabu and u can pry that out of my cold dead hands
--- also peony was the champion he dethroned
11-12: trained under mustard.
14: father died in an accident.
--- mother fell into a deep depression. hop came to live with leon in wyndon for a few months and their (paternal) grandparents moved into postwick.
16: came out as gay in a live interview. fired his manager for being pissed about it. hasn’t had one since.
17: a certain macro cosmos president started sponsoring him.
19: said president became chairman of the league.
20: rose brought him into the energy crisis plan.
--- with limited knowledge, leon started helping him gather wishing stars for the sake of clean energy.
22: game events!
23: post game.
current: raihan is the new champion after the protag forfeited. also leon is gay married to raihan and claude von riegan. no i do not accept criticism.
misc:
- he no likey poison types. poison Bad. no reason in particular! it’s fine!! hahahahaha!!!!
- despite being so confident, he’s easily flustered around crushes. lastbraincell.exe has stopped working
- he and sonia kissed once. and that was how they learned leon didn’t like kissing girls and sonia didn’t like kissing boys.
- had a postwick accent as a kid. spent so long in wyndon he adopted that accent. but some old dialect pokes through every so often.
- his verse’s champion is named wynne! they’re nonbinary and he loves and supports them very much!
- he’s big on charity, and not in a fake way. looking at rose. he donates money directly to those in need and regularly volunteers at or hosts things like food drives, pokemon foster care, children’s hospital visits, etc etc. he’ll buy groceries for everyone else at the store, tip 300% of his dinner bill, and help you move that couch.
- if you don’t drink your respect hop juice he will snap you over his knee.
