football never failed to make you feel anxious. before you started dating jason, you didn't really care for it, only showing up for games because you liked the whole 'team spirit' thing and because it was a good excuse to hang out with your friends. now, however, things have changed

since it was jason's whole life, you took it upon yourself to learn all about the rules of the game and the roles of the different players (with a special interest in jason's role for no reason in particular). now, whenever you showed up to a game, you'd actually be watching your school's every move, ignoring your friends' banter and focusing on jason and jason alone

'this is just a friendly match' is the mantra you kept repeating in your head as you watched. you knew that deep down, having a match sprung up on him like this bothered jason, even though it wouldn't count for anything. you also knew that this would affect his skill regarding the game. at this point, you've memorised jason's every move by heart, and you could tell that today just wasn't his day

the rest of the team looked pretty hopeless too. with their captain in this condition, how could they stay positive? they relied on jason to lift their spirits and up their motivation. little did they (and you) know, jason relied on you to lift him up

ever since you started actually paying attention to games, cheering him and only him on, wearing his jersey with his surname plastered on your back, his prowess went from amazing to formidable. there were times when juggling schoolwork, social life and being the captain of the football team really got to him, and he almost considered shutting himself off from the world. but then he'd remember your sugary smile and kind words and addictive lips and he'd feel rejuvenated. just the thought of you alone was like a lifeline to him

this was one of those times. he turned to look at you, sitting all pretty on the bleachers. despite being in the midst of a sea of purple, jason could pinpoint you within a millisecond. he gave you a small grin, and you waved at him as you sported a smile of your own

"go jason!" you yelled, your voice making jason feel like he ate some of the ambrosia greek demigods would in those myths you learnt about in class. all of a sudden, he was full of energy and quickly passed that on to his teammates, hyping them all up for the rest of the game. they could still win this

and they did. others believed it was a miracle, but jason knew what it was. it was you. if you weren't there, they probably would've suffered a scathingly embarrassing loss against CHB high, who'd been shading them for their 'too rigid' style of playing. begrudgingly, their headmaster brought out the trophy, about to present it to jason when he realised the boy had disappeared

jason didn't care about the trophy. instead of collecting it, taking a few pictures and making a speech, he ran over to you - nearly jumping over the barrier between the bleachers and the pitch to give you a very heated kiss. how could he care about the trophy when his real prize had been here all along?

(the picture of the two of you kissing had been passed around school and you'd gotten teased relentlessly afterwards, but you didn't care. you truly were in your own world - who were you to fight the alchemy?)

A ctivities - What do they like to do with their s/o? How do they spend their free time with them?

He enjoy's any quality time you both spend together. However, you- besides Shiro, are one of the people he's really close with. So he likes to train with you and show you some new moves he could use some criticism on. He also enjoys you showing off some of your moves.

B eauty - What do they admire about their s/o? What do they think is beautiful about them?

You understand him better then anyone. That's what made him know you were on the one for him. You can contrl his anger issues and calm him down when he seems to just- go all out- if you know what I mean.

C omfort - How would they help their s/o when they feel down/have a panic attack etc.?

Not the best at comfort, but I headcanon (or is this canon, idk) he struggles through he's on panic attacks. Everyone has them, so there's nothing to be ashamed about. He wants you to be able to go to him when you're down or on the verge of panic attacks. He would try his best to stop you from crying, for example, rubbing your back, whispering in your ear, combing your hair with his fingers, or just holding you when you need him the most.

D reams - How do they picture their future with their s/o?

He just wants you to be happy. If he's with you, there's no other place he's rather be. He's travel hell and back with you if it was possible. He's basically traveled through space for/with you, so hes got that all setted.

E qual - Are they the dominant one in the relationship, or rather passive?

Somewhat like Lance, he's a switch between passive and dominant. He likes to hear what you have to say and will never deny any of your ideas, unless there stupid. Then yes, he will have to take charge, but he does like to have others pitch in- sometimes.

F ight - Would they be easy to forgive their s/o? How are they fighting?

He's a hothead. So going into this relationship with him you were bound to run into arguments here and there. He would never actually do anything to physically hurt you, but he may say something and you let it sink in for days until he apologies. He tends to say sorry at first, but leaves and doens't talk to you until he's ready. He doesn't enjoy arguing with you, but sometimes he can't help but raise his voice at you for something stupid.

G ratitude - How grateful are they in general? Are they aware of what their s/o is doing for them?

He had no idea where his life was going until he laid eyes on you and actually got to know you. He felt like he had a place in the world and that would be with you through out everything. Good or bad. He is aware, how can he not be. You make sure he's eating. You make sure he's sleeping properly. That he's not overdoing it training. Taking breaks and having some time with friends and loved ones. He won't admit it in front of the others, but he sheds a tear when you do these small things for him.

H onesty - Do they have secrets they hide from their s/o? Or do they share everything?

He lies sometimes. And normally, you'll catch him in the lie but before you could question he's already gone. In his room, his lion, or even just out on his own somewhere. He doesn't want to lie to you because he knows youd never lie to him, but everyonee lies about something. You both know you have your personal problems, but you both want to get through those problems together.

I nspiration - Did their s/o change them somehow, or the other way around? Like trying out new things or helped them overcome personal problems?

As said in 'G' he wouldn't know where he would be going in life if he hadn't met you. You gave him a purpose to keep fighting. He would want to try new things with you,but he would never forgive himself if he saw you hurt and he could have done something to prevent it. As said in 'H' as well, you both want to help each other overcome personal problems one step at a time.

J ealousy - Do they get jealous easily? How do they deal with it?

He mostly gets jealous at Lance when he 'play-flirt' with you. This was also when you both weren't even dating yet. Yup, it was that early he was alreadt getting jealous. "Y/N. It's time for traning, get moving or I'm adding in an extra 10 mintues for the rest of the week!" Lance would notice and tease the half-Galra Paladin about, but he pushes the Cuban away. "Is someone a little bit, oh what's the word? 'Jealous~'?'" "Shut up, Lance." He tends to talk to you about his jealousy, days after the incident had happen.

K iss - Are they a good kisser? What was the first kiss like?

You would say he's an amazing kisser, but he says otherwise. He tenses up mid kiss, unsure when to pull away so you're normally dominant when it comes to kissing and making out. The first kiss? He made the first move at a family celebration of yours. That was also the time he confessed his feelings for you.

L ove Confession - How would they confess to their s/o?

-kinda answered already, but I'll add detail- It was your siblings graduation party. You invited Keith and the others, but they didn't want to intrude in your family celebration. However, you were shocked to see Keith by your doorstep. You invited him in and introduced to your family. Of course, your mother asked if you both were dating and you both blushed. You father pulled your mother away and apologized. At the end, everyone was heading home while some slept over. Keith, not wanting to intrdude any longer, pulled you outside to have a small talk with you. How your week was, if your doing okay in school. Until he watched as you were about to walk back into after your father called to help clean-up. As you turned, the Galra grabbed your wrist and turned you back toward him. Gefore you questione, he smashed his lips to yours and you were both shocked. You actully, non-intended, melted into the kiss. Moments later you pulled away for air. Keiith pants, watching you smile softly. "Is there- something you wanted to say, Mullet?" You teased, panting for air as Kaith blushed a deep red. "I-" It was written all over his face. He fell for you. Hard. And you could tell. "I-I love you, Y/N." You giggled as you pushed his bangs back and kissed his forehead, "Took ya' long enough."

M arriage - Do they want to get married? How do they propose? What would the marriage be like?

He is flustered when it came to proposing to you. You've been dating for years, he didn't want it to be taken away by a silly question. Howver, through all you've been together, meetings, all the Voltron show bizz, saving the universe, he couldn't find a time to ask you until the end of it all. This was day's after Allura's sacfrice. He found you on your balcony one starry night, looking up into space. The same place you watched the lions leave once more, ready to fight along side new Paladins. His hand was behind his back, gripping a small box as his other covered his mouth as he couched, attemping to get your attention. At first, you both talked and laughed about your pst adventures. You already missed your time as a Voltron Paladin, but in a couple of minutes, you're life was about to change forever. As you were distracted by the shooting star, Keith was able to sneak behind you and bend down on one knee. You called his name before you turned around, almost falling to the floor when you saw him on one knee with a ring box in his hand, revealing a beautful (f/c) gem in the middle of the silver metal. He promised to stay with you until the day he dies. He will never let you do anything on you're own anymore. He will be with you every step of the way. As you cheered 'YES!' and tackled your fiancé to the ground with a hug, All the others watched from the door and Lance snapped a quick picture of his friend getting attacked with kisses and hugs.

N icknames - What do they call their s/o?

Baby/Babe.

When he's cheeky, Sweetheart.

He mostly calls you by any preferred nickname, but those two are his top pick to use for you.

O n Cloud Nine - What are they like when they are in love? Is it obvious for others? How do they express their feelings?

He tries to hide it, but is terribly at it and accidently blurts it out durning an agrument with Lance, causing everyone to literally freeze and drop whatever they had in their hands. He didn't see anybody after that 1 afternoon until the next day. He saw Lance hand two 20's over to Pidge, who snickered at Lance's deadpanned face. Keith being in love is nothing to joke about. If he say's he loves someone, he'll be dead fucking serious. He wouldn't tell anyone if he wasn't.

P DA - Are they upfront about their relationship? Do they brag with their s/o in front of others? Or are they rather shy to kiss etc. when others are watching?

He's so shy- oml. Not as shy in private though- ahem ahem. Moving on- Keith likes to hold you close while cuddling. His also likes to rub your thigh now and than, catching you off guard sometimes. He tends to hide your relationshp to others, but of he see's another person on you he'l drag you back and leave a kiss to your lips, loud and clear enough for the other perosn to see. He sends them a death glare saying 'touch them, and you die.' Plain and simple.

Q uirk - Some random ability they have that’s beneficial in a relationship.

He respects you so much. If no body worthships the ground you step on, their nothing to him. He does everything he can to make every date night a special one. Little doesn he know, just being with him is special.

R omance - How romantic are they? What would they do to make their s/o happy? Cliché or rather creative?

Cliché. To make you happy? Just be with you. That's all he needs to do in order to make you really happy. He can be romantic at times, while other times he's got no clue what he's doing at first and lets you to take the wheel. Don't get use to all this power though, because he's a fast learner.

S upport - Are they helping their s/o achieve their goals? Do they believe in them?

100% he believes in you. He tells you if you seriously know what your doing, he'll be your number one supporter, trailing behind you. He wants to help to the best of his ability, but if he doesn't think it's a good idea he will step in and ask you to re-think your ideas.

T hrill - Do they need to try out new things to spice out your relationship? Or do they prefer a certain routine?

He would prefer for a certain routine, but he also finds it fun how excited you get when you want to try new things. He's like the black cat in the relationship while your the golden reteriver. Of course, he will never let you do anything that will, or may, get yourself killed.

U nderstanding - How good do they know their partner? Are they empathetic?

He'll listen to what you need to say and try his best to give the best advice his can. However, there are sometimes where he doesn't know what to do but ask for some help from Shiro. Give him time and he'll try his best to help you.

V alue - How important is the relationship to them? What is it’s worth in comparison to other things in their life?

If someone hurts you he's going full Galra. Fangs and claws are out, baby. Better start running, You're so important to him, he wouldn't know what to do without you. He never thought he'd be here, but now that your in his life he's doing everything he can to keep you in it.

W ild Card - A random Fluff Headcanon.

I headcanon he's hands, oher then Lances, are cold and somewhat rough. He laughs at your cute reactions when he stuffs his hands up your shirt, rubbing your bare skin. This leads to a all out tickle fight. Laughter and sceams could be heard from down the halls.

X OXO - Are they very affectionate? Do they love to kiss and cuddle?

He doesn't hate it, but he would want his personal space once ina while. He also does the same for you. However, other times when you do hug him he may never let you go. You're so warm and cuddly he'll basically use you as a blanket/bed from now on.

Y earning - How will they cope when they’re missing their partner?

Doesn't matter, because he's never going to lose you. If you're away on a mission, that's something else. He'll write to you when he can and smile when he finds you wrote back to him.

Z eal - Are they willing to go to great lengths for the relationship? If so, what kind of?

He. Will. Kill. For. You. Okay, too extreme. But he will try his best to do anything for you. If you need help, he'll be there in less then 2 seconds.

We are headed into our final Drama Shower show of the season. How do you rank the shows we got this season and how are you feeling about the direction of the project?

What is Drama Shower and Why Does It Matter?

Before we get into rating these shows, I want to do a breakdown of what this is. To give you a sense of how big a deal Drama Shower is, fans are regularly updating a Wikipedia page for it with relevant links to follow the project. Also, there is a dedicated MDL page for it.

Drama Shower is a dedicated half-hour programming block on MBS, a Japanese broadcaster that is over 70 years old, in conjunction with Kadokawa, a Japanese publisher and holding group, that plays BL content at 1:30 am on Fridays. The project's main producer is Kaoru Azuma, who is a self-described long-time BL fan. He wants to show that BL can do a variety of stories in genre, and has recently stated that he wants to produce original content through the project as well.

We originally had six shows air through year one: Mr. Unlucky Has No Choice But to Kiss!, Senpai, This Can't Be Love!, Takara-kun to Amagi-kun, Eternal Yesterday, Candy Color Paradox, and Jack o' Frost.

I originally reviewed these shows as overall a mixed bag, but showing great promise. I liked that they got more comfortable with depictions of m/m intimacy over time. I thought Mr. Unlucky was legitimately funny (9), Senpai never found its footing (6), Takara and Amagi mildly squandered their premise (8), Eternal Yesterday was extremely poignant (10), Candy Color Paradox had ambitions that exceeded its talent pool (7), and Jack o' Frost was a really strong finish (9.5).

MBS seemed to enjoy the performance of this project enough to continue it for another year.

For me, I think it's very significant to give BL itself a time slot to see how audiences are responding to BL as a concept compared to the pitch of individual shows. I'm really encouraged by MBS doing this. Even if you don't care about the name MBS, you have interacted with their content, because they are also behind Full Metal Alchemist and Haikyuu! anime adaptations.

Rating Year 2

I actually liked the way year 2 started, even if I'm a bit mixed on the end. I really loved opening with Tokyo in April is... I liked that they had BL trying to be topical. I think the show unfortunately conflates some things it shouldn't, but I loved TIAI and I loved Ren and Ryunosuke's experience being gay men. I liked the changes they made to the source material. This show was dark in a way that it owned, and I really like that. I gave it a 9.

We then moved to My Personal Weatherman, and that went over well for the people who like to see really hot people go at it with each other. I actually enjoyed how much Yoh and Segasaki actively misunderstood each other even as they were speaking to each other. I don't know that they exactly completed their story, and I suspect that there may be a future outing for this show. Despite enjoying it, I think it didn't get all of its pieces together fully and gave it an 8.5.

We then crossed over into uncertain territory with One Room Angel. Despite enjoying a lot of what was going on in this show, I don't actually think it's a romance. It's my understanding that the angel character is a lot younger in the source material, and so they may have been a little shy about how much they did with these characters on screen. I also don't think the storytelling was balanced between the leads. However, because I am susceptible to complex stories about grief, I gave this show an 8.

Now, we have Sahara-sensei to Toki-kun. I hated this show so much. I think it makes the unfortunate mistake of asking me to care about how homophobia and public perceptions impacts people through its flashback drama, but then does nothing with that in the front. It sucked so hard, and I'm really disappointed because I thought this show had some of the most potential, and I thought Toki was one of the most watchable characters Drama Shower had produced. I ended up giving it a 4.

Our next and final show (I think) for this outing is called My Strawberry Film. This one will also be in a high school, but I know little about it, other than we may have a GL plot in it.

So, overall I'd give Drama Shower an 8. I think fans of BL, and especially Japanese BL, should continue to show up and support it. The fact that we have a dedicated programming block is important. The fact that none of these shows has felt like a retread so far is super important. Drama Shower is varied. There is something in here for almost everyone. Drama Shower is the biggest commitment to BL we've had from a distributor other than GMMTV's ongoing BL slate. Taiwan has Vidol doing is four projects, but Drama Shower is the first time I know of that a Japanese distributor has focused on BL in a meaningful, ongoing way. We should stick with it.

basketball date w/ gyuvin !! ₊˚🧸⊹

synopsis : what would it be like if one day your boyfriend kim gyuvin took you to play basketball with him? another very fluffy drabble / scenarios / imagines i still don't know what to call it, it's just fluff.

-> notes : first of all i'm sorry for the people reading this who are ACTUALLY good at basketball because i'm certainly not and that's why i made this :) also this is like major brain rot and it's not organized whatsoever it's just all over the place i hope you understand.. hihi 🤭

first of all, i think he'd take you on a basketball date to show you his b-ball skills and he's hoping you'll go like 'gyuvin ur so cool!' and you did do that but as time went by you started to get a lil bored just watching so you asked him if he could teach you instead which he happily obliged.

when you couldn't reach the hoop or make any shots he'd pick you up and he let's you shoot in as many b-balls as you liked.

when you actually shoot one in without his help, he'd clap and smile at you like a child and don't forget that he'll be squishing your cheeks and aweing at you (the thing he does w/ yujin).

"my gf/bf/partner is soooo talented!" he'd say all sorts of remarks like this and you thought he was being sarcastic but he actually meant every word but hes also too shy to tell you up front so he just jokes about it in hopes you'll get his signal. what a silly guy

and it sort of worked because you started to get really into b-ball and you didn't miss as many shots as before, you were excited to show your boyfriend how you improved so gyuvin pitched the idea of having a friendly competition between the two of you.

during the friendly match, it was obvious gyuvin was making it easier for you because he wasn't even running he was walking and when he got to shoot the ball he'd go like "oops i missed" and literally pass the ball to you.

gyuvin was usually very competitive especially when playing b-ball. his partner for basketball practice was usually ricky and you knew how competitive gyuvin was in reality so you felt a little down thinking he doesn't actually see it as a match.

so you started sulking, excusing yourself from the court to drink some water and gyuvin followed along cause he noticed your change in mood.

"be right back." he says quickly before rushing off to who knows where, making you sit there in boredom while the sweat on your shirt starts to feel sticky and uncomfortable, not only that but you were also craving your favorite drink after gulping down a whole bottle of water.

gyuvin comes back and brings just what you wanted without you telling him to, one of his t-shirts freshly washed in his hand and your favorite drink on the other.

and then he'd start apologizing, hugging you, holding your hand, or cupping your cheeks basically all he could think of in order to stop you from sulking.

which in fact worked because you couldn't help but let out a giggle and gyuvin would be sooo proud of himself for making you laugh, i guess sulking will just never work when you have a boyfriend as adorable as gyuvin.

In the end, you'll change into his t-shirt, both of you enjoy your favorite drinks together before crashing into his house and ending the day on a high note. (probably cuddling while watching gyuvin's favorite basketball anime).

small imagine ->

you saw gyuvin slam dunk and hang from the hoop thanks to his lanky tall body so you tried to do it too except you failed horribly, making gyuvin laugh like a maniac.

"if you keep laughing i'm actually breaking up with you." you threaten him while lifting yourself up the ground.

"sorry sorry here i'll help you." gyuvin went in front of you and knelt down with his back facing you. you assumed he was gonna give you a piggy back ride but the moment you lifted one of your legs he positioned himself under you and lifted you up, with your legs on either side of his shoulder and you yelp out of surprise which almost made you fall backwards but you didn't thanks to gyuvin's quick hand grasping your thighs and your free hand held onto his head for support.

"gyuvin what the hell?! that scared me so bad!" you hit his head playfully while your other hand was occupied by a basketball.

"what're you waiting for? shoot it!" gyuvin tilted his head backwards to look at you with a silly smile on his lips and you could only afford to turn away in order to hide the blush creeping onto your cheeks.

when you were about to put the ball in, gyuvin accidentally tripped on his shoelaces and lost his balance resulting in the ball flying out of your hand and the both of you falling down.

you prepared yourself for the impact but after a while, you didn't feel anything and a sudden groaning was heard from the boy under you.

"ouch.." he sat up halfway, one hand holding onto his head while the other rested at your waist. "oww.. y/n are you okay? did you get hurt?" contrary to his current state the first words that left his mouth were concerns for your safety even though he just fell head first onto the ground trying to save you.

"oh my god gyu are you okay? i'm so sorry.." you quickly regained consciousness and took in current the situation, your hands held his face, arm, head searching for any bruises but when you found none you sighed in relief.

"no, don't be sorry it was my fault i actually tripped on my shoelaces..." you hit his chest playfully while you two sat on the not so clean ground for a good minute, exchanging glances and giggles but looking away when the blood rushed to your cheeks. as if you weren't dating already smh

Eventually gyuvin helped you up, dusting your pants and shirt from any dirt before enveloping you into a warm hug, your face squished in his chest but you hugged him back anyways.

"hey y/n, let's just play another sport next time."

"yeah, definitely."

So from what I understand, the initial pitch for Invader Zim was that the main source of comedy was Zim thinking posing as an elementary school student was the best use of his time as a spy and making leaps of logic based on his lack of cultural knowledge. And we did certainly see stuff like that happen in the show, but I think over time there was a shift to more episodes focusing on the Zim/Dib rivalry or things going on in space that didn’t feature the skool setting at all or didn’t revolve around cultural misunderstandings to drive the plot. IDK if they did more of that in the comics, but here’s some ideas I feel were missed opportunities. Not including anything obvious like “skool dance” episode, or “forced to work with Dib on a project”.

1 - An episode that’s just Zim and Dib narrating short stories they wrote for a creative writing assignment. It might be low-hanging fruit for them to both write the same story of a real incident between them from either of their perspectives, or a self-insert wish-fulfillment fantasy about defeating one another. I kinda like the idea of Dib writing the kind of story he himself would enjoy, like a noir-style detective story with a supernatural twist or gothic horror ghost story. Zim would just copy a story told to him by GIR, which itself is a mangled retelling of something that happened on TV that neither of them actually understand, but no matter how ridiculous and nonsensical the plot was he’d read it like it was Shakespeare.

2 - Similarly, an episode that’s just Zim giving an oral presentation on a historical figure or event, but he gets a ton of stuff wrong due to misinterpretation, or mixing up factual sources with like, a historical fantasy. Like if he read TF2 lore and told the class that stairs were invented by Abraham Lincoln.

3 - Zim gets an exam/report card back and finds out he’s performing poorly, which makes him question whether he’s learned anything at all from all the time he’s spent gathering intel. He decides to put his plans for conquest on hold to spend more time studying, except he’s not studying anything actually assigned by the skool and nothing he learns is on his next test or useful for conquering the humans.

4 - Alternatively, Zim is warned that because of all his absences and poor performance he’s at risk of being expelled. Dib mocks him for it at the first, but then decides he’d rather not have to worry about what Zim’s getting up to all day while he’s stuck in class, so he decides to help Zim break into the server room for the skool’s computer system so they can change his report card, but because this is Zimworld the security system is ridiculously over-the-top and the stakes are a like a Die Hard movie.

5 - The skool needs a team to represent for an academic decathlon. Zim signs up because he wants to show off his superior intellect and Dib joins the team to keep an eye on him (and prove his superior intellect). Zim and Dib are the math and science experts while their other teammates specialize in different subjects but everyone except Zim at least knows enough about the other subjects to mostly get the answers right if they’re forced to answer something outside their specialty. Unfortunately all the questions Zim and Dib know the answers to go to their less science-minded teammates and they get stuck with all the insane questions about skinning moose and other lectures from Ms. Bitters that they didn’t pay attention to.

Either that, or they keep getting quizzed about pop culture trivia they don’t know because they don’t keep up with mainstream television. Zim ends up getting a question right that wins the game however because he remembered it from some insufferable show GIR watches constantly and everyone treats him like a fucking genius for it. Dib meanwhile is treated like an idiot for getting all the stupid pop-culture questions wrong.

6 - The class has to read some classic lit out loud and Zim’s over-the-top dramatic narration leads to him being asked to audition for the skool play. Zim scores the lead role and gets way too into method acting. To the point where Dib can’t even tell if he legitimately thinks he’s the character or if he’s just doing it to mess with him.

7 - Zim joins a skool club and quickly usurps the club’s leadership and rules over the other members with an iron fist, twisting it from its original purpose into just being a club dedicated to serving his whims/messing with Dib. It all falls apart for some stupid reason like one member leaving and forcing the club to dissolve because it didn’t have enough members or some forms not being filled out correctly or budget issues forcing a bunch of clubs to shut down. Meanwhile, Dib tries to start a paranormal club but can’t get any members and gets kicked out of every other club he joins for trying to steer it away from whatever its original purpose was to make it about the paranormal.

8 - Baseball/team sports episode. Zim and Dib are both actually pretty decent so their team begrudgingly puts up with them. They let their rivalry get in the way at first and don’t pay any attention to the skool’s rival team talking trash about their skool. Even when it turns into an 80s cliche where the skool will actually be closed if they don’t win the game they don’t care because it is a shit skool and if it closes they’ll just go somewhere else. It’s only when one of the rival team members interrupts Zim and Dib in the middle of their own little pissing contest that they finally get their act together and start strategizing with the rest of their team. They win and finally get a taste of what it’s like to be appreciated momentarily for carrying the team until everyone else finds out their shitty skool is staying open because of them.

9 - Some Yu-Gi-Oh/Magic-type card game becomes really popular and Zim decides to get into it to blend in and find a way to exploit it to gain power over the humans. Dib naturally gets in on it too and they get way too serious about it. It either becomes an over-the-top parody of Yu-Gi-Oh and its hyper-realistic holograms and battle arenas that turn card games into genuine life-threatening experiences for participants and audiences alike, or it satirizes the satanic panic by having some kind of reveal that all the cards are actually possessed by real supernatural spirits and the games are part of some nefarious third party antagonist’s plot to overrun the world with demons or something.

Domi interview, part2

About his friendship with Trent:

(The interviewer is actually so messy, because he even mentions Robbo lol. In his long question, he even says: " He [Trent] is a scouser, he obviously knows a lot of people, gets on with them brilliantly, and yet it seems you two have an even better connection, better it seems, than he [Trent] used to have with Robertson."

JAIL! Justice for Robbo! )

Domi: " We are only 2 years apart, so we don't have an age gap really. We have similar mindsets, both on and off the pitch. We have a great understanding with each other on the pitch, he said so as well.

It was with him, that I had the first story [experience], when he said, lets go to Manchester to have dinner, pick up some food, let's hang out here or there ( my translating skills are not the greatest, but basically, he says "ide-oda-amoda", which is first, a very cute thing to say, second, implies that they went to a lot of places together. So not just a one time thing, but quite a few!)

So yeah, then we became close, sometimes I go his place, sometimes he comes to mine."

Then, the interviewer recalls one of Trent's recent interviews, where he was mocking Domi how he fired both freekicks to the wall. He asks about the competitiveness between the two of them, asking if they indeed have it, if it's healthy or sometimes stresses Domi out.

D: " No, it's healthy. If I had [and missed] my chances against Wolves, then yesterday, so did he against Everton, they just didn't ask me about it later on [laughs].

I: "There seemed to be a lot of thinking between you, Trent and Salah about who will take the freekick..."

D: "No, it was going to be him [Trent], we were just talking about how to do it. Salah wanted to take it, because that would have been a surprise."

The interviewer then really bit onto this. Domi then explained in a sped-up and therefore not understandble cut, how they had usually three options about it (he asked them not to show this), but in the end, repeated how there is no problem about it. They all have an understanding, it's usually in the situation itself, when they decide who will take it.

About the competitiveness of the squad, if it's better or worse, than it was in RB Leipzig for someone on the bench to get into the starting XI:

D: "It's hard to say. There was a time in Leipzig, when I didn't play much. I trained very hard every day to get into the starting XI, but it still didn't work out under THAT coach [Tedesco]. But that didn't make me a worse player, in fact, because I trained every day, twice as much as before, because I wasn't playing, so when the next coach came [Marco Rose, the current coach of RB Leipzig] I was ready.

But it's normal, nobody wants to sit on the bench (...), or maybe, some do, I have heard some stories, before I came here from the others, I will not say names, they were comfortable sitting on the bench."

About the changes of the LFC squad, mentioning Henderson, Millie leaving, who were "big voices" in the team, a position, which now VVD or Trent has. Asking about if he feels secure in his position in the starting XI, if Klopp has his go-to midfield or not, or he has to fight for his place with the rest of the players:

The interviewer says he feels like Dominik became a stone solid starter in the 8 position on the right, even if at first he thought it's good how Szoboszlai came into a team, where he will have to fight for his place. He mentions stats about how Dominik played for most matches, barely subbed off.

Dominik says in a very long answer how there is a constant fighting for the starting positions, as everyone wants to start. When asked about his rivals, naming all the midfield players to choose from, Dominik says it's all of them, repeating once again, how they all want to play.

D: " I want to play at every match, even if I'm a bit tired."

I: " Even at the EL?"

D: " Yes, in every match. FA cup, PL-, EL-, Carabao cup. [...] I'm at my best, when I can play it all, when I play on both Wednesday and Sunday. It might sound stupid, but in this case, there is no training, but matches, then focus on rehabilitation. For me, I feel like, this works out the best."

I: "It seems like Jürgen doesn't even want to sub you off."

D: "Well, I don't know what he has in his mind, but hopefully he can keep this good habit. [laughs]

“I don’t understand what’s the big deal,” Bruce said as he tugged his bowtie into place. You scoffed from where you stood across the room, one heel on and an earring halfway into your ear. The annual Wayne Enterprises Gala which touted “a celebration and appreciation of all of our amazing employees” was set to start in half an hour and here you were, arguing with the man of the hour in your bedroom.

“Of course you don’t understand,” you seethed. “Bruce, your kids just want to see their father outside of the suit sometimes, okay? I know you have this crusade. I know better than anyone what hell you put yourself through, but you forget that you are a father and a husband sometimes.”

“How can I forget when you’re so eager to remind me?” he snapped. You knew that he was stressed. There was a new player on the field that he hadn’t been able to nab yet and they were causing havoc around the city. You got it, you understood that, but he had missed Damian’s art show and prying the youngest out of his shell was already a Herculean task. Bruce’s failure to show up, despite you and Dick coming, seems to have instilled this idea of Damian being “unworthy of Father’s approval” and therefore, a failure. Nothing you could say or do was changing his mind and it was breaking your heart to see him like this.

You straightened up once you had your heel firmly settled on your foot and adjusted the skirt of your gown to fall straight before adjusting your earrings. Clearing your throat, you clasped your hands in front of you and waited for Bruce to look up from buttoning his tux.

“I understand that you have a worthy and noble cause. You forget, however, that I am your wife and that means I have duties too. I have supported you countless times throughout the years, I have taken in and loved every child you have brought home, and I have never once asked you to give up your night job. But if you ever speak to me like that again, Bruce Thomas Wayne, then you better have a good story for the press as to why I left you.”

With that, you walked out of the room and let the heavy oak door slam shut behind you.

He doesn’t have a chance to speak to you once the gala starts. You’re busy wining and dining various business executives and fellow billionaires, keeping them up to date on all of the charitable work the company was engaged in. Occasionally, one of the kids would steal you away to give you a break from the monotony of small talk and you appreciated it so much. You loved each and every one of your kids so much that it made your chest hurt at the very thought of the work they put in every night. Currently sandwiched between Damian and Duke, you felt a sudden urge to pull your sons in close and hug them tightly.

And that’s when you noticed the look on Bruce’s face.

“Something’s wrong,” you whispered. Duke nodded in understanding and Damian tried to wiggle out of your arms, but being the wife of Gotham’s resident vigilante had taught you some things. You spun Damian in closer and pulled Duke around him before turning and placing your body between them and the oncoming blast as the detonation ripped through the ballroom of the Tipton Hotel in downtown Gotham.

A high pitched ringing shriek reverberated through your ears when you came to. Multiple people were shouting and sobbing beneath the blare of the fire alarm. Someone was shouting your name and you desperately tried to focus on whoever it was. Your vision was blurry and you winced as a calloused hand rubbed your eyes before patting your cheek.

“Bruce…” you murmured once you could finally see. His blue eyes were full of panic, an emotion you rarely saw in the indomitable man. Why was he so worried? Did something happen?

Right. The explosion.

“The kids…are the kids okay?” you gasped out. He nodded and shouted something over his shoulder that was too quick for you to understand. Why was he here? He needed to be suiting up and hunting down whoever did this. You would be fine, you just needed to get to your feet.

“Stop. Stop moving,” he barked. You stilled instantly under his strong hands and took a chance in looking down. Warm, fresh blood stained the entire front of your gown and you inhaled a shuddering breath before you let your head fall back on the floor.

“Bruce,” you whispered. “Bruce. Did I do good?”

“What? Honey, you’re in shock. Just focus on staying awake, okay?” Worry laced his tone and you could feel him holding pressure on your abdomen. Was it shrapnel? Debris? You didn’t have time to focus on the specifics.

“Bruce, look at me.” His eyes met yours instead of the frantic, frenzied glances around the room. “Are the kids okay?”

“They’re fine. A few cuts here and there but they’re fine.”

“Did I do good?” you repeated. His brow furrowed at your question and he shook his head, indicating that he didn’t understand. “Bruce, was I a good mother? A good wife?”

Realization dawned on his face and you wished desperately that you could wipe away the tears building in his eyes. Bruce leaned down and pressed a featherlight kiss to your forehead, as if anything harder would break you instantly, and then leaned back.

“You are an amazing mother and wife and when you are out of surgery, I will spend the rest of my life groveling,” he vowed. You chuckled at his promise and smiled up at him. Your handsome Bruce.

“I’ll hold you to that.” Your voice was growing weaker and he bellowed for a paramedic once again. They were coming, but not quick enough. He couldn’t lose you. Not like this. Not after your anger and the fight and his idiocy. Not ever. He wouldn’t be able to survive if he lost you.

Bruce stood to let the paramedics prepare you for transport to Gotham General. Your blood soaked the white sleeves of his shirt and his hands, but he couldn’t feel his skin. For a brief moment, he thought about suiting up, but he knew better. Nightwing, Red Hood, and Black Bat were on the hunt. They would find whatever bastards did this.

He stared down at the puddle of blood on the ground where you had laid and, in a blink of an eye, saw your blood mingle with two others on the ground of an alley in the Bowery.

He couldn’t suit up. Not right now. He didn’t give a fuck if Jason buried a bullet in the head of whoever masterminded this fucking show.

If Bruce got into the suit right now, to hell with his code. Not even Clark would be able to tear him away from killing them slowly, one by one, until they knew he was coming and all they could do was wait in fear.

If Bruce Wayne lost you, he didn’t know what he would do.

This will be my one and only post on the subject of post-s3 canon-compliant Hannigram...

...unless ofc the show gets renewed, which, at this point--it won't, lbr. Martha de Laurentiis was the show's champion and navigator of the rights issues, and she has literally died. If anyone else is championing it, I don't know about it. Maybe something can come through eventually as the new company leadership gets shit figured out, idk. But I'm not holding my breath.

That's the key point here which most of these asks don't seem to recognize: they want me to give an opinion on the state of the relationship, and whether or not Hannibal and Will can be together for a long term and maintain contentment in their relationship with each other: the Happy Ever After Question. But what these asks are most notably NOT doing--even though the askers always frame it as if they are--is asking me about the kind of storytelling would be likely in a continuation of the show: the Plot? What Plot? question. They want to have their plot cake and happily eat it ever after too. And it just doesn't work that way.

These are really very, very different questions. And what would happen if the show actually did come back has as much to do with what would have to happen to resurrect the show out of rights oblivion and then negotiate endless contracts AND how the creatives own lives and circumstances may have changed them and their points of view over the years, as well as the years themselves.

And because the show is very likely never coming back it's really a moot point now. Fantasize however you want. Write fic however you want. It's your damn story now, not the creatives. So in answer to the first, Happy Ever After Question, yeah, sure, why the fuck not. Let Hannigram have forever. But wait--you like plot with your porn? Then by all means give them some conflict. Tear them from the seams, their skin, their bones. Does that make you happy now?

But stop pulling down other people who are doing it in a different way than you're doing it, even if you can't understand it. Yeah, you know who you are....

As for the ~cANoN~ question, let's also be real for a second. If the show were renewed TODAY, it will have been more than a decade between seasons three and four, and Bryan Fuller has been pretty clear that Hannibal and Will are together during that time. So CAN they stay together for a period of years? Yeah, sure, why the fuck not. Obviously they HAVE.

But also--if the show were to come back, would they be destined for angsty shit and conflict and, yanno, PLOT? Again, obviously. It's a ridiculous notion that the show would continue without it. Flip side of that, though, is the equally ridiculous notion that seems to be floating around that if they can't be Disney princesses in their happily-ever-after together, then they can't be together at all, or at least, not for long. That's also absurd.

So let's touch base with what we know, and not what we each individually prefer.

Let's pretend--perhaps ambitiously--for a minute that if the show did ever come back it would be following the plan that we were left off with. It would stretch into 3 more seasons, with Cuban, Korean, and Cajun dishes iirc for episode titles. Bryan Fuller was pretty clear that season four would dive into an untapped portion of the books, revisit season one in a "really interesting way," and be pitched as Angel Heart meets Inception. Will might achieve happiness but not till the ending of the whole thing. That's what we know. Sorry I can't cite any of this; I haven't looked up a Hannibal article in half a decade.

So, leaving aside specifics and just getting to the question at hand, what we do know from season 1 is that Hannibal and Will were together. So, logically, they're probably together in any theoretical season 4. And OF COURSE they would be--they just spent all of S3 apart. You gotta vary this shit up. And they have to have internal and external conflicts, because writing 101. And the internal conflicts are meaningless--as would be all the rest of the preceding show--unless they're deeply and passionately invested in and love each other. That was the whole frickin' point of S3.

I don't honestly even understand how any of this is a question or a debate. Why are y'all even arguing in this the year of our lord almost 2024, and making me grumpy by sending me endless asks about stuff that's been answered for years and years. Why did I have to read with my OWN TWO EYES that someone who joined the fandom in 2016 (!!!) is so #FandomOld that people are afraid to argue with them????

So, y'all, this is all I'm willing to say about a potential continuation and ending of the show:

In a simple sense, the pattern the show was setting up is S1 & S4 Hannigram is together and solving crimes (at least in some weird Angel Heart way), S2 & S5 is semi-together, semi-apart Baltimore State Hospital for the Criminally Insane thing (with other stuff), and S3 & S6 on-the-run culminating in Something Big (probably at least partially apart). That doesn't mean this is the way the show would go, but it'd be very easy to write Clarice or an expy coming into the story to chase them down and end up mentored by them (either one or both) with this format.

As for the very final ending of the whole thing, the ending *I* would write may not be the same as what Bryan Fuller would write, but to me it seems both obvious where the show should go and that it would be completely and utterly satisfying to shippers and non-shippers alike. And I have run my theoretical ending by devout Hannigram shippers, and it met their approval. So if I can come up with something that both works for them and works for my sense of completionism in storytelling, then I'm sure Bryan Fuller could. He's way more practiced than me.

I have consistently said that I do not relate to the notion that it'd be better to have them together in one's imagination than it would be to actually see Mads and Hugh acting together in the ACTUAL SHOW, regardless of how that ends. Because here's the thing: my imagination is boundless and endless, and I can get an unlimited amount of Hannigram doing whatever the fuck I please whenever the fuck I please. More show, on the other hand, is rare as hen's teeth. I would take that miracle if I could get it.

While I agree that liddol Toshi wasn't saying that there was no other role for him in the society, even with your interpretation he still gives himself less value as the others. 'Nothing is expected from me and I have no family, so I can freely go and put my life on the line to protect everyone else'. And it's not just that he was brushing off other people's kindness, it's also the fact that he saw All Might as more needed and important than Yagi Toshinori. He felt useless and helpless once he lost OFA, and had troubles with seeing how he can still be needed and usefull. Horikoshi even brought up the moment Toshi told Izuku that he can't be a hero without a quirk in this fight.

I definitely agree that Toshi felt useless and helpless without OFA. But I’ve come around to the idea that there’s not really a duality between All Might and Toshinori Yagi. OFA or not, they are the same person. It’s what Toshi tells Shoto in Ch. 386 — the body and mind are two halves of a whole. And I think Toshi’s need to feel useful arises from the person he is. It’s not that Toshi values himself “less” as much as his heart beats for others. His soul and his consciousness are at peace when they serve others. It may sound “crazy,” but young Toshi originally intended to become the Symbol of Peace without a quirk. As a teenager, he thought of his quirklessness and orphan status as assets — it meant he had nothing to lose. Why not try to change the world without a quirk? Like Izuku, Toshi just doesn’t care what happens to himself. Toshi is glad to try saving someone with his metal pipe, even if it’s a dumb idea that probably couldn’t succeed (like Izuku charging at the slime villain). Toshi thinks saving is “the coolest thing someone can do,” so he thinks nothing of putting himself in danger. Toshi’s fantasy was never having a quirk or being a superhero; it was stopping the cycle of grief and hatred so everyone could live with a smile.

Once he had OFA, and became All Might (which was before Nana died, as she calls him by his hero name in All Might Rising), things got muddy. Actually, I dare say it’s Nana’s presence in his life that changed things — she cared about Toshi, and was like a mother to him. That screws up his entire reason for himself being the ideal symbol that had nothing to lose. And then he DID lose Nana, so he doubled down on keeping others at arm’s length. I don’t think it’s possible to separate young Toshi’s understanding of himself as “All Might” from his need to be isolated. He successfully pitched the idea of becoming “All Might” because he was alone, and then his life experiences proved to him that, yes, All Might needed to remain alone. Then, the more successful All Might became, and the more people forgot about the man behind the hero, the more Toshi got lost in All Might.

Over time, Toshi distanced himself from his original idea to be the Symbol without a quirk. He became less “human.” In his 50s, having survived a gruesome injury, he saw that idea as youthful folly. So when Izuku asks in Chapter 1 if he can be a hero without a quirk, well, we get Toshi answering “no.” Just like Nana, Izuku’s young enthusiasm and selfless spirit wins the hero over, but Toshi still thinks Izuku needs a quirk. It’s only after Ch.326 and the Stain pep talk that Toshi understands the real “All Might” was his heart and soul all along, not OFA. Toshi realizes his original teenage ideals were right. It’s why Ch. 398 shows us these 3 panels together:

Toshinori Yagi cannot live his life in any way except for the sake of others. That means accepting he will put himself in danger in order to save. As he told Nighteye after his initial injury, he won’t stop helping until he’s dead. The difference is that now the risk of his death is far less because he’s accepting his humanity and accepting the help of others. Toshi is understanding that he’s not the only one who lives for others — people are willing to die to save HIM.

That’s why I struggle with the argument that Toshi and Izuku see themselves at this point in the story as having “less worth” than the people they save. We’re now seeing other characters like Stain laying down their lives (or close to it) to save Toshi and Izuku, as well as other heroes, villains, and civilians. The story has been clear that true heroism inherently involves risk, and frequently some kind of sacrifice. The key is knowing the difference between needlessly rushing towards death and living on to save another day. Right now, Toshi has to keep living to distract AFO, as he’s the only one who can. Beyond that, I’d say he has to keep living to see AFO eradicated, and Izuku and 1A rising to take up the mantle of the Symbol along with citizens. Creating a bigger network of hope and light is how Toshi’s fantasy becomes reality.

So, I saw all the posts about the promos for this thing coming from the John Oliver side of Tumblr, and I wasn't really planning to watch it despite my general interest in John Oliver, because I just don't understand the appeal of watching people eat and/or make and/or talk about food. I've said before that I couldn't get into Off Menu, or something like Bake Off, because of triggers I have from my years of cutting weight for sports, which is true but doesn't even really apply in this case. One 30-minute video of eating wings isn't going to trigger me (I do eat and talk about food without a problem, it's just doing long deep dives into that bothers me). It's just not interesting to me. John Robins and Elis James have started this feature on their radio show called Tick of a Taste where they try something unusual (and usually challenging, in similar ways to hot wings) and then describe it, and it's the only part of their radio show where I kind of tune out. I just don't get the appeal of turning food into entertainment.

So I was going to give this one a miss, but then it actually aired and @lastweeksshirttonight alerted me to the fact that there's a bit of Edinburgh chat, and obviously I cannot skip potential Chocolate Milk Gang content. So I watched it, and was not disappointed.I don't know who that interviewer is, and I did not expect to like him, given that he's an American man who makes, I assume, a whole series based on filming celebrities eating spicy food. I'm vaguely aware of that sort of "content creator" genre of YouTube, and it doesn't sound like fun. But I have to admit, he conducted a surprisingly great interview for a man sitting across from some hot sauce bottles. Asked good questions, they were insightful and interesting and displayed an impressive level of knowledge about his subject.

At this point, I'd like to take a brief moment to use this video as an excuse to slag off Marc Maron:

Marc Maron interviewed John Oliver in 2012, an episode that I listened to because John was fascinating in it but Marc was absolutely insufferable, as he's been in all the WTF episodes I've heard (which I believe is four: John Oliver, Andy Zaltzman, Stewart Lee, and James Acaster). And this is far from the main reason why Marc was insufferable, in fact it was a tiny thing that didn't matter, but Marc was so weird about the differences between British and American English. He kept stopping John to ask for the definition of British words that might not be common in North America, but should be more than easy enough to work out from context, and Marc couldn't just do that, he had to stop and treat it like some weird exotic thing that John said the word "headteacher". At one point in the interview, John is talking about the place where he plays a game that some call football and others call soccer, and you can hear him say "the p-field". Clearly started to say "pitch" and then realized that this annoying interviewer would pick him up on that so he changed it to field. That's what I thought of when I saw the above video clip - a fun example of the opposite of that. Well done to the hot wings interviewer for not being like Marc Maron.

The hot wings interviewer still pronounces Edinburgh about as badly as Marc Maron does, but I'm starting to think I should be a bit careful about complaining when Americans do that, because I'm not 100% sure that I say it correctly. I know how it's supposed to sound, so I can tell when someone says it wrong. But I think it might just be a hard word to say in a North American accent, so it's possible that I also mess it up, and six months from now I'm going to be in Edinburgh and probably at some point saying that word out loud to people who will know how it's meant to be said, so I might want to start saying now that it's fine if you do it wrong. I don't do it as wrong as that guy does, though. I'm pretty sure the word "bro" doesn't come into it when I say it. I also say it better than Marc Maron does.

Anyway, that is not the main point of this post, the main point of this post is this:

How the fuck have I never heard that story before? This is my exact period of specialty - John Oliver in his Chocolate Milk Gang years - and I have gathered up all the references to it that I can possibly find, and yet I'd never heard him tell that one before. I'm so glad I watched the weird hot wings video, just for that. I wish he'd tell us who the other comedian was. I have several guesses.

You know, I hadn't really thought before about the fact that John Oliver would have done his own material at those Late 'n' Live gigs. I knew he ran around taking cows apart, and I knew other people did their actual sets, but I hadn't thought of the fact that at some point John would have been on stage by himself telling John Oliver jokes. I don't think the stage where they took the cow apart was really the place for early 00s-era John Oliver jokes. I'm not surprised it went badly.

John Oliver and Andy Zaltzman do have a long list of stories of gigs they've done that have gone very badly (one gig in particular, the stories of which I made into a compilation nearly two years ago now), and I know all comedians have stories like that, but it doesn't surprise me that Zoliver have more than most. 00s-era Zaltzman and Oliver, individually and together, were not club comedians. Or at least, they didn't have club material, but they were not yet quite famous enough to never do clubs. London has a much larger and more diverse comedy scene than we do around where I live, but still, I think I can use my local comedy club as some kind of basis for comparison. And if someone stood up at my local comedy club and started telling Zaltzman and Oliver jokes, they would be met with baffled silence at the absolute best. They might get stabbed.

What jokes was he telling at Late 'n' Live? Was he doing his Political Animal material? He had a bunch of political and topical stuff back then, but that's not all he did. John Oliver definitely had more mainstream material in his arsenal than Andy Zaltzman did, I guess he could have brought out his train story and the one about not eating peas as a kid. Though actually, even the peas story is basically a political joke. Was he doing the stuff about crying at sporting montages as early as that?

Actual recordings of the stand-up John Oliver did in Britain are rare, though I've managed to find a few. Most notably the one of him and Zaltzman doing their full 2004 Edinburgh show, in 2005, that got released on The Bugle in multiple pieces but I stitched them together into one file, and… I mean, you can't do that at Late 'n' Live. I know I haven't been there, but if you could do that at early 00s Late 'n' Live, then I have drastically misunderstood the nature of the event. You can't do that. You'll get stabbed.

The other source of information about early Oliver stand-up is reviews, which are worth reading because they're often quite funny. @lastweeksshirttonight, I can't remember if I've ever sent you the Steve Bennett review of his debut Edinburgh show, but I'm tagging you because if you haven't read it before then you definitely should. It's hilarious. I don't always agree with Steve Bennett's opinions or approach to the mechanics of the English language, but I have to admit: "John Oliver has based his debut Edinburgh show on death, a concept he can be no stranger to, given the lukewarm reception his obscure observations receive," is a sick burn.

Was John doing that at Late 'n' Live? You definitely can't do what was described in that review at Late 'n' Live. You probably shouldn't do that anywhere, really.

There are better reviews from the next few years, like these ones, which both basically boil down to: Zaltzman and Oliver are intelligent guys who write well and it's all very clever and even at times funny, but God, they're both really annoying. So annoying. It was funny but I didn't like them because they were annoying. Did he annoy the people at Late 'n' Live that way? Is that why the man wanted to stab him?

Steve seemed to like them better in 2005, but still, I don't think you can do that at Late 'n' Live. "Oliver and Zaltzman are at the vanguard of a new wave of satire taking vast global issues - fair trade, the apathy paralysing democracy, immigration - and trying to simplify them to expose their flaws, which suddenly seem so blindingly obvious when put in such clear terms." Yeah, John, obviously the guy threatened to stab you if you tried to do that to him when he was drunk at 1 AM. Obviously.

What did you do to them, John? And while we're at it, what did you do to the people of York that one time?

Anyway, the whole Hot Ones interview was pretty interesting, they touched a few times on that side of John Oliver that I find particularly enjoyable, as he discusses the way he really enjoys tension and doing fucked up things and getting in trouble, but also has a socio-political worldview that says venerating that stuff is bad, and this creates its own tension. It's something I've heard him talk about before, I've always enjoyed it, I wasn't expecting to hear it explored so much in a hot wings interview, but here we are. Young Royals : The importance of physical touch [P2]

The first part of this was very well received, and for that thank you!

I've been reading everyone's responses and the tags and I'm very happy that so many people enjoyed what I had to say? You're all very kind and for that I thank you 💜

OKAY I couldn't fit all my favorite moments in the last post, so let's continue on!

Consensual physical touch [continued]

What are we going to do? [ Season 1 Episode 6 ]

They have just been HIT by a HUGE amount of stress and trauma, and the first thing they do when they are alone is break the barrier of space. They are both more at ease and willing to figure things out if they can have the comfort of touch from the other.

This season they had been lit with a lot of soft golden ambient light, and this is one of the scenes when shit gets real and scary. To have the lighting change also, really sets the mood for what is going on.

But we never lose the feeling of the touch we got when we did have the golden light, even though things are getting intense their love is still the same.

are you..are you okay? [ Season 1 Episode 2 ]

OKAY there's a lot to discuss here because it's a back and forth test between the two of them.

We have first, the jump scare which walks us RIGHT into the first touch of their hands. Which Simon is leading, and really trying to figure out if things are going the way he thinks they are.

Which starts well, until they get spotted by Sara, causing Wille to straight up panic and run, which causes Simon to also panic and follow.

I've heard quite a few people say the first kiss was awkward and uncomfortable to watch, and I'll tell you what if you've never tried to kiss someone when you aren't sure? It's terrifying. and awkward.

You're jumping into the ocean and it's pitch black and you aren't sure if the other person is gonna help you swim or if they are gonna drown you.

In this case Wille takes a little too long to respond and Simon tries one more time, really REALLY trying to see if he's right or not.

Once Simon realizes, hey this doesn't feel like a two way road, he panics and tries to leave. He doesn't push Wille, he understands that he isn't responding so he immediately tries to fix it. But Wille grabs him and begs him to stay, realizing finally at that point what is happening.

Again, breaking the separation of space between them trying to communicate that he essentially messed up.

He brings Simon closer, not immediately, but slowly to show him that he does understand now and that he is willing to see where it goes. He doesn't say it. He's showing it.

This is where our beautiful unspoken language of consensual physical touch is at, they have broken the barrier of space and stay in this INTIMATE tight space for a decent amount of time to get their bearings.

To understand that yes this is something both of them want, even if it took Wille just a bit longer to figure out.

AGAIN shout out the intimacy coordinator because I could feel the heat of embarrassment and anxiety off this scene and it was so real it made me need to take a lap around my house.

Simon let's Wille initiate the kiss, he's already tried initiating twice and failed he's not about to push it. He stays exactly where he's at, he wants Wille to communicate physically that it is in fact actually a two way road.

jag älskar dig [ Season 2 Episode 6 ]

This scene is so INTIMATE and personal again, I feel like we shouldn't be allowed in the hall with them. Simon is finally telling Wille he wants to be with him, regardless of if he's a secret or not at this point.

That he loves Wille. AND HE SAYS IT. This is a rare occurrence where Wille has felt Simon love him but for once he actually needed to hear it.

This is also a rare occurrence where we get a very physical emotional reaction out of Wille : the breath of relief, the glossy eyes, the clinging to Simon.

We still have people who can see them from the hall, so we aren't going to get what we assume would be the most wholesome kiss we would ever see.

But the build up to it is there, it's very similar to the scene in season 1 episode 5 when they are in Simon's room. They aren't ever breaking physical contact, regardless of who's watching because that is how special this moment is to them. They are communicating without speaking.

That this is all they want, bringing themselves back in again to this really tight intimate space.

Sharing breath.

Faces mere inches apart.

Just for the sake of being together. It's beautiful. And I absolutely wept watching it.

Thank you for not leaving me alone with this. [ Season 1 Episode 6 ]

This is their first real intense test of their relationship and they know it, and it's scary.

The scarier part being they each have to go fight their part of it on their own, but we get this really beautiful scene between them before they part.

Simon is there trying to keep Wille calm and under control, and tells him that he's brave for doing what he needs to for the sake of their relationship.

Again, Simon is really good with words of affirmation but he knows sometimes Wille won't respond to hearing something like that as much as a physical touch.

So it's important he uses not only his love language but Wille's in this instance as well, so he breaks the space and gives a kiss of reassurance, while resting his head against Wille's. Once again bringing us back to that tight intimate space, which has become a safe space for them.

Which Wille immediately responds to pulling him in for a TIGHT embrace, his arms wrapped fully around Simon. I mean he's scared there might be a chance he could lose Simon, and he's literally clinging to the hope that doesn't happen.

This is also different then the hugs we've seen before from them. Usually Simon wraps his arms around Wille's neck, and Wille will wrap his around Simon's waist.

However we have what I like to call an X hug here, which is exactly what it sounds like. We have one arm over one shoulder and the other around the waist and the other person does the same just mirrored.

I personally usually associate this type of embrace with really intense emotions, like wanting to be as close to the other person as humanely possible and TIGHT, and this embrace is a good way for that to be possible.

[for instance if you see someone you haven't seen for a really long time, or if something really horrible has just happened and someone is consoling you]

The stroke of his thumb on Simon's shoulder is also something very tender in this moment I want to point out.

The way Velvette is portrayed in Hazbin Hotel doesn't sit well with me.

To preface I am a fan of Hazbin Hotel and am looking forward to the show so-so. I want to clarify I mean no hate to Viv and her team, she has a creative mind even though her design choices are sometimes lacking to me. But this has been on my mind for a while especially as a poc.

Velvette has been a character ive enjoyed for the the longest time since her debut in the pilot. Even though her quick appearance she drew my attention for an unknow reason but she's just ah I love her. When I found out she was a poc and was into alternative fashion it drew me more to her as growing up I couldn't express myself in such clothes as it didn't suite my skin tone enough. Was never white enough or coloured enough (thats my race). I told my sister how I liked Velvette and she said she doesn't because of how she looks and it made me think. Velvette in all my relating to her lacks the representation I hoped she'd give others like she did me but she doesn't. Viv as much as I like her designs, underdesigned Velvette. She lacks poc features, what I mean by this is her skin tone mostly. I know she's a demon but I've see so many dark skinned monsters, demons, creatures that far surpasses Velvette. Her skin tone is this light brown- grey colour dispite being a black woman in her pitch bible (yes I saw it and I know lighter skinned black people exist but even so Velvette is so racially ambiguous point blank like many of Vivziepop's po characters and plus, her skin tone isn't even really a skin tone, its giving anime "dark/brown skin tones"), its lackluster actually and I wished it were different because I'm sure Viv has black/dark skinned design members on her team but no input from them was added to Velvette's design. Viv I understand is a poc but she is like me a lighter skinned poc, I myself have a difficult time drawing darker skinned characters and I know how Viv doesn't leave her comfort zone of character traits so it leaked into Velvette being such an under respresentation to black people/ dark skinned people. Her hair is also my end, Viv in all my years of following her has never experimented with poc hair textures/styles. It took so much more away from Velvette as a black woman with the hair style/texture she has now (I know black woman or woc can have straight hair but due to the embrace of more natural hair textures it would've been beautiful to see Velvette with a more natural hair texture). AGAIN Viv should've reached out to other designers for their input on her but no, its Viv's "character" (even though she doesn't technically own it anymore) and nobody can make such changes as its not in her vision/comfort zone.

Another thing I want to add is Viv's problem infantailising certain characters. I've seen it with Angel Dust, Niffty, Stolas and now Velvette and its not sitting well with me.

According to Velvette's pitch bible she is a 30 year old black woman, a *grown adult* who is also in the adult industry, cool.

This is a post by one of Vivziepop's staff members Sam, who also happens to be one of Vivziepop's closest friends too. They made a post comparing Velvette's to a certain character dynamic:

What the hell were they thinking. VELVETTE IS A 30 YEAR OLD BLACK WOMAN WHO WORKS IN THE PORN INDUSTRY AND YOU ARE COMPARING HER TO A PARENT/CHILD DYNAMIC!

She is involved in the adult industry along with Vox and Val. Valentino is shown to be a misogynistic man who is abusive, a rápist and much more, Vox similar. Velvette being involved with them isn't my issue, she's not a good person ha hell she probably condones their actions as she's an antagonist like them. The problem is I've seen Viv doesn't know the difference between a childish adult character and an adult character who is treated like a child and extention encouraged to be treated like one. Velvette has a childish fun personality thats all, that gives no reason to why she is treated like Vox and Valentino's child, SHE'S 30!

Fans and critics have pointed out how they keep seeing this problem how Viv portrays her characters. It creates a breeding ground for the fetishsization of these characters in a disgusting way. The amout of art I've seen depicting Velvette as their child is disturbing and TW: the amount of lòli art I have seen of her on unsavoury websites is just... I cannot. Just because of her personality she is being treated and seen as a child. I will not go into how woman of colour when reaching a certain age of development are not seen as children anymore even when they still are (we'll be here all day, its boils my blood I hate) but what Viv is doing is not right either. Strips away Velvette's agency especially as a black woman like Viv/team really should've thought before encouraging the infantailisation of her and such art posts as above.

In conclusion (since I lost my 1st draft aaah not typing that long again). Velvette is a good example to me of a poc character with lost potential. Viv had the power and choice to allow other poc creatives to give their input on her but simply didn't. She holds on to these characters so dearly and I understand she doesn't want to loose them, they are like her children. But they aren't anymore, she needed to let them be changed into their best version but alas no. Viv whether she likes it or not is in the mainstream now thanks to partnering with A24.

The audience has changed, we want to see better representation in media: various skin tones, sexualities, different body types, hair textures, even disabilities. Viv as a bisexual woc had the opportunity to give us so much more but didn't even knowing thats what audiences seek, like Velvette for example that's what I seeked and thought I saw but my rose tinted glasses got taken off by my sister and I saw what I saw wasn't all that.

You have the capabilities Viv, you have the resources, you have everything layed out in front of you to give us this why did you not, the boundaries were not pushed. Brake from your comfort zone, seek others inputs and criticism because if you go on like this you may fail. I've followed you for the longest time but not many times have you experimented with different body types, various skin tones and hair textures... no comment. I'll still support Viv's work and decide if I'll still be invested in it after Hazbin drops but I'm cautiously optimistic right now. Only wishing more grown for Viv, peace.

Eboni, my darling- hoo, boy. you're about to get way more than you bargained for, but I got some Thoughts™️ & some Things™️ to say.

disclaimer: Between Us was a sweet, serviceable, inoffensive show. I mostly enjoyed watching it & I loved being back in the UWMA universe, however tangentially.

speaking to the collective “you” here: if you loved the show from start to finish, I'm sincerely happy for you! if it'll lessen your BU fandom experience to read critiques- which is valid & completely understandable- click away. I swear I'm not trying to rain on your parade (or argue with anyone, which I won't be- period).

also, let's check ourselves: this is a show. it's not that serious- it couldn't be less serious, actually. sometimes I just like to go off the analytical deep end...it's a good time for a nerd like me. this is my house (my blog) & I'm just having fun, throwing digital paint around.

with all that out of the way, let's jump into it.

UWMA set an extremely high narrative standard. we knew from scene one the writers weren't messing around. that opening is burned into my memory forever.

from compelling flashbacks, to multiple couples that had something for everyone, to little plot details weaved in from the beginning that only made sense later- they knew exactly what story they were trying to tell & they told it in a big way. it was tightly constructed, cleanly delivered and hit all the right notes for me personally.

UWMA is a tough act to follow. in the end, it felt like Between Us barely tried. to quote an MDL reviewer (before the finale even aired): in with a bang, out with a whimper.

step one of any good story is solid character development. it's what draws us in, making & keeping us emotionally invested. we have to like these characters- and know enough about them- in order to care. that- and a good, solid plot- is what sustains our attention.

in a pretty atypical way, Between Us had serious emotional fan investment long before it had basically any character development (thanks to BounPrem's chemistry, IMO).

Win and Team had roughly 31 minutes of total screentime in UWMA, but you'd have never known it from the fever-pitch fandom support years before its release. we didn't have much real character knowledge or depth to go off of, but many of us came into this show ravenous for more of their story (raises hand).

the show's over now and, disappointingly, I don't feel like I learned much about either Win or Team that I didn't already know. we did see them struggle- Team with his guilt and insecurities; Win with his vague intimacy aversion and self worth issues.

Team and Win had plenty of things between (heh) the two of them to overcome- so what went wrong?

for me, Between Us suffered from a tragic case of barely-scratching-the-surface character development (there was so much there to play with narratively & yet- sigh), paired with serious flaws in the rising action.

every single story in existence uses rising action. to quote Henry of The Closer Look, a media analyst I like: "rising action is basically narrative tension. it's the way the conflict builds as the story goes along."

when a story utilizes rising action effectively, the audience ends up feeling almost elated by the end. it's almost like we actually went on the same journey as the characters, and we now get to bask alongside them in just how far they've come. we want to see characters we care for improve, persevere. overcome, conquer.

when rising action is handled correctly, the plot progression looks something like this.

Between Us had tension, it had conflict- but it looked something like this (I'd add way more hills, personally).

"what you're seeing here is an abomination of story structure." hey- Henry said it; not me.

the conflicts went up and down throughout the story. Team internally spirals; Win does something sweet and pulls him out of it. everything seems fine; Win pulls back.

rinse, wash, repeat in an endless cycle, made worse by the fact that they struggled with- and apparently overcame- the same. exact. issues, over and over, the entire time.

conflicts that seemed to be resolved came back exactly as they were, sometimes multiple times in a single episode. by episode 7 or so, it was getting tedious. by the end, I was just bummed.

for me, watching Between Us was going around in circles, hoping we were working towards some actually-important climax that never came. and I wanted to believe we were going somewhere, right up until the bitter beige-on-beige end.

there were no scenes that actually made me hold my breath, ala Bad Buddy’s confession-of-legends on the rooftop. no repeating themes, masterfully culminating in the finale (running up the cape in ITSAY). Between Us left me with an itch for depth and impact that only fan fics can scratch at this point (bless you writers).

yeah, Win and Team ended up together- of course they did. I don't think anyone had any doubts they would eventually. but standing at the finish line, do I care that they ended up together?

I hate to say it, but- not really. they didn't give me enough to make it feel meaningful- like it actually meant something. it just- is. yay? I guess?

this post was brutal enough, but to answer your question about what I'd keep & what I'd change? it's hard to pick when the whole thing just felt like special episodes (filled with lots of cute, sweet moments, to be fair) with an enormous dash of missed opportunity.

all in all, I don't regret watching but it's a universe I'll only be returning to via fan fic fixes- and UWMA, my forever top 3 BL beloved.

Revamping what started this whole AU..

Factory Reset In Progress

(Reminder that Factory Reset is/was a collaborative effort between me, @fandomandangstlover , @duckapus , and several anons on Engie's (fandomandangstlover) blog! Credit and huge thanks to everyone who pitched in that day to help make this AU what it is now!)

This isn't that huge because I'm just making major changes. Everything else is left alone, mostly because I see no need to change it. But ideas and suggestions are always welcome!

Efficiency Arc

A reminder that this is the first arc that kicks off the AU, and this is pre-character development for nearly every character. That, and the Higher-Ups/Admins/Code World have not been introduced. This revamp, however, is being made with the new world building we have!

The beginning of this Arc is relatively the same, with SMG4 being shown as more spacey, almost like he's in a trance. A change, though, is that some scenes are shown with SMG3 experiencing similar things, being spacey, and generally having a hard time focusing. When the two are together and like this, they work together scarily well, letting everyone know something wrong.

Like the old arc, it goes from 0 to 100 incredibly fast with The Coding where both SMG4 and SMG3 are reset. A big change, though, would be showing just how different they are now. They work together absolutely flawlessly, rarely voice any complaints, and are generally very distrustful of the others.

In Please Wake Up, stuff is massively changed. SMG1 and SMG2 don't know what's wrong with 3&4 this time around, but they are able to deduce that it's almost like they've been reset. But they do tell the gang their best bet of figuring out what's went wrong is by finding either 4 or 3's Pod.

The WOTFI goes the same, except we would get to see a scene of Mario meeting with Domain (but at the moment he doesn't know his name) after finding 3's Pod. Mario explains everything (he's shitting bricks the whole time) and we don't get Domain's answer, except for his eyes narrowing.

Of course, come when everyone looks lost in the battle, Mario arrives with the bow and arrows Domain and Forum gave him to give Singularity its just deserts. It's code crumbles away, but a few stray pieces manage to hide away and sneak their way back to the Pods..

There'd be a lot of emphasis on just how scary this is for everyone because this is completely different from everything that's happened, and it's giving Mario and Meggy some serious flashbacks to the Lawsuit Arc when everyone didn't remember them.

This also gives time for SMG4 to reflect once he's been freed, and he realizes how badly he's been treating Mario, and he decides that he needs to start being a better friend before something similar happens again.

When Mario gets asked how he managed to get that bow & arrow, he says the "Mario recolor in 3's Pod gave it to me-a!" Everyone goes to investigate, Domain isn't present. Everyone's very confused, but.. decide that, presently, its not something they should worry about.

As they leave, we get a full look at Domain, who only crosses his arms with a stoic face.

New Hope Arc

The arc that changes the most. There's still tons of aftereffects from Singularity's rampage, SMG4 and SMG3 being the most harmed. Their code is still incredibly fried and damaged, and SMG1&2 are clueless on this and how long it'll take for them to recover.

There's a lot of focus on recovery in their arc, and Lil Coding doesn't get introduced as early as he did last time. It's midway through the arc that he does, and it's because 4&3's code has gotten to the point where he actually needs to step up and intervene. Everyone is understandably suspicious, but the Code Manifestation simply does the code repairs and leaves as soon as he can.

It always bothered me how quickly everyone grew to trust Lil Coding, so it takes a while longer for them to come around to him. LC takes most of the initiative, coming around and helping his SMGs code and repairing it. It takes a while, but they do slowly come around.

Singularity hiding in Lil Coding's own code stays the same, and him progressively getting weaker as it takes his own code as well. The overflow command happens just the same, with Singularity coming back.

The Burden Arc

It's actually Lil Coding this time that says they need to go to the Pods, with him saying that this is something far out of his control and permission range, and they need the Admins. Everyone is confused (save for Mario), but they head to the Pods. There, we finally get the proper introduction of two of the three Admins for SM64: Domain and Forum.

We get some lore from them, them explaining that they're the Admins of 3&4 along with what Lil Coding is. Not everything is explained, of course, but we do get what's relevant and necessary to the plot.

Lil Coding and Singularity being linked stays the same, and of course, not wanting Lil Coding to end up dying, everyone looks for a way to separate them. Domain and Forum could do this, but they don't because remember. This is before all of the chatacter development everyone has had, so they're nowhere near as attached as they are now.

Eventually, Lil Coding does his thing to go and get rid of Singularity, but this time, instead of the whole stone statue thing, he's just in an indefinite power down mode until he heals. The electricity overload he does nearly completely fries his own code, but it does end up killing Singularity.

I think this is a good starting point for Domain and Forum's actual character development and to also plant the seeds of them being the SMG Prototypes. They are both incredibly confused by how upset everyone is and why they feel like something is repeating with how everyone's acting. So they decide to help out and speed up Lil Coding's recovery. I'll say that this is the start of their actual relationship with everyone.

more thoughts on pitch whisurge, with other stuff too

mainly about the relationship between tangle, surge and kit. because at first, tangle was furious about the fact that anyone was hurting whisper, and kit was close to the same about surge. when the kismesitude began both tangle and kit kept trying to intervene, bc "how dare you hurt my girlfriend/how dare you hurt my sister". but over time, and with a bit of help from amy, they both realized that the relationship was actually good for them, in the weird way that only a kismesitude can be.

and, while they were working through how to handle that (because yes they know it's good for them, they still had a hard time getting past the fact that they might be a bit beat up because of it) kit and tangle started hanging out together as a bit of a distraction. both of them felt kinda the same about the whole situation, but over time they helped each other realize just how much surge n whisper are helping each other.

kit mentions how surge has been calmer at home, lashing out a lot less at tiny inconveniences, and a bit nicer in general. and tangle talks about how whisper seems like there's less bothering her, like she's not holding as much back. plus, both girls seem happier overall.

eventually it changes from kit n tangle just hanging out bc the other understands how they feel, to them actually being friends. it's really common for kit to show up at tangle's house to hang out (which is another good thing about everything, it's helped kit fight his "i have to help surge!" programming)

also! surge n tangle are friends too, they just don't hang out as often as tangle and kit do. surge appreciates how tangle helped kit out with processing everything, and helping him move past his programming. the only real issues between surge and tangle is that if tangle mentions something cute whisper did surge gets mildly pissed off. surge has cuteness aggression w whisper but actually just gets angry when whisper does something "cute". it infuriates her whenever she sees whisper's tail wagging when she gets the upper hand in a fight, or anything like that.

whisper and kit are friends too, they'll actually hang out together sometimes if they need a break from the loud n energetic people they normally spend time with. sometimes kit will stay the night with whisper and tangle if surge is out doing something (he's not as dependent on her, but he still hates being alone, especially at night). they'll usually end up playing video games or having a movie night.

the wisps also really like kit, though they don't trust surge much. the wisps usually stay with tangle whenever whisper's with surge. they'd rather be in the inevitable cuddle pile with tangle and kit anyways.
