i've noticed that i go through this yearly cycle of fandom obsession where i'm deep into a fandom for about a year. totally obsessed. unable to stop thinking about it. i always get into the year's fandom sometime between april and july. this year it's star wars, last year it was tolkien, and the year before that it was my hero academia. some hold on better than others. tolkien hasn't really gone anywhere and i doubt star wars will either. but. i'm thinking about trying to utilize the sweet spot this year to actively decide what fandom i'll be into. stay tuned for results.

"It's okay to give up sometimes".
Y'all, I fell in love with Love and Deepspace, like, someone put their whole pussy into this game.
Warnings: male reader, sick/dying reader, Zanye being Zanye. Rushed. Angst
Tumblr media
It was cold.
Well first of all, it was winter and (Name) was in a doctor's office, again. Due to the attack 14 years ago, (Name)'s lungs were almost destroyed, causing him needing annual hospital visits.
At least Zayne was there for him. I mean, he had to be there. As his friend and doctor.
"Everything okay doc?"
Zayne was quiet, "I would like to schedule an CT scan sometime today, your breathing is more rapid. I'm hoping we don't have any fluids-".
Zayne pulled out (Name)'s medical history file, rereading it.
"Is everything okay Zayne?".
"You'll be fine if that's what you're worried about".
(Name) shooked his head, "im not really worried about me, I'm worried about you".
"Don't he. I'm healthy".
(Name) sighed, biting his lip, "it's... fine.... I understand that I will-".
"Don't talk like that, anyways, you have a CT scan this afternoon. Let's go get lunch together".
(Name) and Zayne walked into the Café, it was quiet for now, lunch rush would be soon.
"You need to start bundling up more when you go outside. You could develop bronchitis".
(Name) smiled softy, "whatever you say Zayne".
(Name) studied Zayne's features, his black hair, pale skin, his-. (Name) shooked his head, "Zayne... I want to ask you-".
Zayne eyes lifted from the menu, staring into (Name)'s eyes, "I don't like that tone, whatever you're thinking of, you'll be fine".
"Zayne.... I... I want to be cremated".
"Stop it".
"You know I don't have any family here, I'm not trying to burden you with a funeral, but-".
"Stop-"
"Zayne, we need to have this conversation-"
"Yes in the future we will but you're fine".
"Zayne, the CT scans will show it is getting worst... Zayne, I can barely walk up stairs now without having all the air in my chest suffocate me-".
"Then we'll just prescribe some antibiotics".
"Zayne-".
"I don't understand why you are being so negative, you'll be fine. You're going to be fine".
The two sat in silence, an occasional cough from (Name). (Name) grabbed Zanye's hand, "I want you to be happy".
"I'm already happy".
"It's okay to give up Zayne, I rather... die now, than be hooked up to machines and in pain... I think... I'm ready".
Zayne grabbed (Name) out of his seat, pulling him by the arm and walking out of the Café.
"Ah! Zayne! Where are we goinh?".
Zayne was quiet.
The two walked hand in hand in the streets, snow falling around them.
(Namel) stared at the beach, the mix of sand and snow, the coldness of the breeze, the light flurry of snow.
"(Name)"
(Name) looked at Zayne. Zayne grabbed (name)'s hand putting a small ring on his finger. "I... wanted to proposed next summer... here.....".
The two had tears in their eyes, they slowly fell into an embrace.

We’re Just Friends part 4
Pairing: Timmy x Reader
Warnings: Jealous Timmy, Soft Dom Timmy, Possessive Timmy. SMUT SMUT SMUT!
A/N: This is a looooong one. So grab a drink, in fact get your big water bottle, make a POT of tea, and grab lots of snacks!
We’re Just Friends pt4
Y/n and Timmy were out in the open with everyone now, all their friends and family knew and were happy they had finally gotten together. Their mothers were ecstatic about the news and jumped around in each other’s arms, screaming their heads off.
Their dads were excited about it too, they shared a beer with Timmy and y/n’s dad gave him the talk about treating his little girl right.
They were sitting at breakfast at y/n’s apartment and her phone pinged with an email, she looked at her screen and saw it was time for the annual party at work.
She groaned rolling her eyes reading the rest of the email, it wasn’t her boss that sent the email, it was actually Mason who worked with her. She sighed feeling Timmy come to stand behind her as she read the email inviting her to the work party, and snuggled back against him as he read the email over her shoulder.
‘Who is Mason, and why is he personally inviting you to the annual work party? Shouldn’t the boss be sending these out?’
She nodded rubbing his arms wrapped around her shoulders, ‘We work together, he’s had a bit of a crush on me for a while.’ She felt him tense behind her and smiled.
‘I don’t like him like that, and I’ve made it clear. Why don’t you come with me to the party? It’ll be nice to introduce you to my work colleagues as my official boyfriend.’ She turned to him smiling, watching him reread the email, she leaned up and kissed his neck then his jaw before reaching his lips.
‘I guess it would be nice to see where you work and what you do. You always talk about it, so it would be lovely to see your passion.’
He looked down at her and smiled kissing her back before picking her up of the chair and into his arms.
‘First, we shall have a long hot shower together.’ She squealed as he threw her over his shoulder and carried her towards her bedroom, smiling.
The day of the party arrived and Timmy came to y/n’s apartment, and walked into her room to see her getting dressed and smiled jumping onto the bed.
‘Don’t jump on my bed, Timothée!’
She called from her wardrobe reprimanding him.
‘I hopped onto it very gently, mon ange.’ He smirked getting up and walking to the wardrobe and peaking in.
She was currently trying on a midnight blue dress that had a slight sparkle in it making it look like the night sky, he smiled and walked over to her and surprised her by helping her with the zip at the back, she smiled moving her hair to the side as he leaned forward to kiss her shoulder.
‘We don’t want to be late, baby.’
He nuzzled his face against her neck kissing her skin humming in response as she lay her head back against his shoulder to give him better access.
He pulled her closer against him by her hips, and devoured her neck with kisses and small nips, before she turned to face him and pecked his lips gently.
‘We need to go baby.’ He groaned laying his head on her shoulder before nodding and grabbing her coat for her before leaving the apartment.
‘I called us an uber to get us there instead of walking to the subway. It’s pretty cold outside tonight.’ She nodded and slid into the backseat pulling him in with her and gave the driver the address.
They got inside quickly as it began to rain and walked towards the elevator to the third floor, while Timmy looked around taking everything in. He had waited outside the building whenever he took y/n for lunch and was always curious about what the inside held.
The elevator doors opened onto the third floor where the party was being held and y/n saw the place was packed with people drinking and talking and laughing.
‘A lot more accepted the invitation this year I guess.’ Y/n muttered into Timmy’s ear taking his hand.
He nodded squeezing her hand comfortingly, ‘which one is Mason?’ He asked looking around casually.
He wanted to size this guy up who had a crush on his girlfriend, Timmy wasn’t the jealous type but hearing some guy from y/n’s work had possibly been hitting on y/n irked him for some reason. He followed her into the fray of employees and fancy dressed people towards someone who looked to be y/n’s boss and wrapped his arm around y/n’s waist as she greeted the small circle.
Soon enough they were making their rounds along the room, and Timmy didn’t need y/n to point out Mason because he came right up to her and gave her a very personal hug and a kiss on the cheek, which to Timmy’s delight she backed away from, openly setting boundaries between them.
‘Y/n I’m so glad you could make it, did you get my email?’ The man asked eagerly. Timmy watched him carefully sizing him up, this guy was probably in his mid to late thirties, what the hell was he doing hitting on a twenty five year old woman. Right now he was constantly trying to touch her arm, making it look like he wanted to see her bracelet just so he could touch her hand. Yeah this won’t be continuing, Timmy thought.
He made it look subtle as possible first by wrapping his arm tighter around her waist causing her to look up at him and smile as her boss droned on and on, then he leaned in and kissed the side of her head by her hairline making her wrap her arm around his shoulders.
He could feel Mason watching them closely and hid his smirk against her hair, y/n’s boss then turned to them and asked how long they had been together.
‘Oh we’ve been best friends for years, since we were kids really and grew up together, then… things just happened during a party one night at a friend’s house and we’ve never looked back.’ She smiled up at him and kissed his jawline. Timmy returned with nuzzling her nose smiling and saw Mason frown, and smiled, before leaving to get y/n a refill of her wine.
He went to the bar ordering two drinks before looking over his shoulder to see Mason getting uncomfortably close to his girlfriend and Timmy felt something inside him snap and he took out his phone and began texting her.
Y/n got his text and gulped blushing slightly reading it closely, and looked over her shoulder at him standing at the bar, his back to her.
*I am so hard right now for you my love. You putting Mason in his place by not letting him kiss you, making sure everyone knows who I belong too, it’s so hot. I wish I could take you somewhere right now and let this entire room know who YOU belong too.*
Her breath hitched and her heart sped up as she read the last bit, was he Doming her? What exactly would he do to her if she let him take her somewhere. She got another text
*Why don’t we show timid little Mason who makes you scream?*
She smirked looking over at him no longer listening to Mason saying something about dinner.
*What are you going to do to me, my sweet little Timmy?* she messaged back hearing a glass fall and break and looked back seeing Timmy left the glass on the floor and walked towards the bathroom looking back at her with hungry eyes.
‘He’s very clumsy isn’t he?’ She turned to look at Mason and rolled her eyes.
‘Excuse me.’
She walked away leaving the guy stunned and followed her boyfriend into the bathroom before she was dragged into another dark room and shoved against a wall, before she felt his warm hungry lips on hers, she kissed back with equal force before he spun to face the wall and slid his hands up her dress, before reaching her underwear pressing his full body against hers pinning her to the wall.
‘What are you gonna do to me?’ She gasped as he slid his fingers into her panties till he found her opening.
‘I’m going to make sure Mason knows who you belong too. And make sure he knows where he stands when it comes to you.’
She gasped as she felt his finger slid inside her and moaned as she felt his lips near her ear ‘Who do you belong too?’ He whispered curling his fingers upwards.
‘You.’ She breathed while grinding down against his hand to get him to move.
‘Good girl.’ He whispered as he began to thrust his fingers in and out of her making her groan against him, the noises she was making were just sinful and were making him harder every moment as she writhed against him, he kept his fingers moving in and out of her as he undid his jeans pulling them and his shorts down and letting his hard length bounce free. He ripped her panties straight from her body not wanting to remove his fingers from her pussy and slid into her from behind causing her to squeal loudly and began thrusting into her while still working his fingers from the front.
‘Say it again, who do you belong too?’ He growled against her ear while holding her against the wall, while thrusting into her both with his fingers and his dick.
‘YOU!!’ She screamed.
‘My name. Say my name!’
‘Timothée! I belong to timotheé!’
He bit down on her neck sucking the skin before pulling off and grabbed a fistful of her hair gently pulling her back to make her look at him. ‘Louder! Who do you belong too?’
He began slamming into her hard snapping his hips against her cheeks and pulling his fingers out of her and nearly ramming them down her throat before she can answer him letting her taste herself on his fingers. She moaned against his fingers before he pulled them out and turned her face towards his to kiss her, she grabbed his hair returning the kiss as she felt her orgasm approach, she broke the kiss and pushed back against him as she felt his orgasm approaching too and whispered against his mouth ‘Who do I belong too?’
He continued thrusting into her as his orgasm exploded around him and inside her and he whimpered ‘Me!’ She ground against him as he rubbed her bundle of nerves with his thumb bringing her orgasm making her head fall back against his shoulder as he fell back against the wall holding her tightly against him panting heavily.
She held onto him as they both came down from their high before turning to capture his lips in a heated kiss,
‘Who do you belong too?’ She whispered against his mouth.
‘You. Only you.’ He groaned deepening the kiss by slanting his mouth against hers.
She kissed back turning to face him and straddling his hips and wrapped her arms around his shoulders and holding him against her.
She broke the kiss pushing his hair from his eyes and face, seeing his dilated eyes in the dark room. ‘We should get back to the party, people will be looking for us.’
He buried his face holding her tighter against him, and shook his head ‘No. wanna go home and be naked with you.’ She smiled playing with his hair, before pulling his face up to look at him.
‘Ok, we go out and I’ll tell them you’re not feeling well and we go home and get out of these clothes.’
He reached up and pecked her lips before letting her stand and stood with her and used his phone to find her panties, or what was left of them y/n held them up to his face looking annoyed before suddenly shoving them into his mouth smirking at his shocked face.
She pulled her dress down and walked out letting him sort himself and push her panties into his pocket, she wasn’t getting those back.
Timmy walked back into the function room and saw with slight annoyance that it seemed no one was any the wiser of what they had been doing, in fact people were still chatting and drinking away as if they didn’t hear y/n scream his name repeatedly at the top of her lungs.
He grumbled for some reason annoyed at this, but seeing y/n’s smirk across the room as she spoke to a disgruntled looking mason told him he had heard something he didn’t like and Timmy smirked very happily and heard his phone ping with a text
*You should Dom me more often, Mason just told me he’s never heard anyone make noises like that in his life. You did good, sweet boy.*
He felt his smirk grow wider and his chest swell with pride as he walked over to them wrapping his arm around y/n’s waist.
After saying their goodbyes to the boss they headed home and as soon as they stepped over the threshold Timmy began unzipping her dress immediately and sliding it off her body letting it pool at her feet, he quickly kicked off his shoes and jeans as she unbuttoned his shirt and slid it off him. He picked her up and carried her to the bedroom and falling on top of her onto to the soft sheets leaving the lights out, and began devouring her chest, nibbling each nipple in turn. When she tried to grab onto him he grabbed her wrists pinning them above her head using something silky he grabbed from the bedside table to tie her wrists tightly to the rail.
‘Timmy? What are you doing?’
‘Hungry.’ He simply replied her question and moved further down her body before stopping between her legs and licked a strip along her opening making her gasp as he teased her clit with his tongue, her hips raised off the bed before he held her down with his hands mumbling ‘Don’t move, I’m eating.’
He used his fingers to separate her lips before pushing his tongue inside her making her scream.
Now she knew why he restrained her.
She clamped her legs around his head keeping him there as he darted his tongue in and out of her like he would do with his cock and she pulled on the restraints not caring if they left marks on her wrists.
‘Timmy don’t stop!’ She screamed out as her orgasm came closer as she writhed against his mouth breaking out in a sweat. He grabbed her hips and began riding his mouth against her sensitive pussy bringing her intense orgasm to its peak, She screamed and convulsed around him coming hard against his mouth, hearing him take every drop of her. She panted as she felt him crawl back up her body and untie her wrists before kissing her and shoving his tongue into her mouth making her taste herself on him, he wrapped his arms around her waist laying on top of her with his head on her chest hearing her racing heartbeat.
‘You make a very good Dom.’ He smiled proudly as she petted his hair and he lifted his head to look at her ‘Want me to do it again?’
She smiled at him through the darkness of the room and run her hands up his sides making his eyes close automatically and sigh in contentment.
‘That doesn’t count as an answer’ he breathed out before moving his body up to peck her lips.
‘Do it tomorrow, for now let me take care of you.’
He groaned and rolled them over pulling her on top of him and hissed as she began to grind against him making him even harder than he was when he was eating her out, she lifted her hips and sank down on him until their hips connected with a wet sound. She leaned down to kiss him and rocked against him slowly, as he moved his hands to her hips to help her move, he lifted his hips to meet hers and moaned when he felt his dick go deeper into her, and broke the kiss to let her sit and ride him.
He reached up and groped her breasts pinching her nipples between his thumbs and fingers causing her to slam her hips down on his and ride him harder, as the bed began to rock with them she wrapped her fingers around his throat and gently squeezed bring his orgasm forward a lot sooner causing his eyes to roll back and growl before he grabbed her pulling her down on top of him and slamming his hips into hers to bring her orgasm forward quicker and shoved his tongue into her mouth roughly kissing her and swallowed her screams as she came around him shaking and gasping.
They caught their breathes before passing out in exhaustion tangled in the sheets wrapped around each other and fell asleep quickly.

All my favs are the ones who aren't from Japan💀
As a huge bsd fan, I admire how commited you are to the blog. Have a good day, as well as a happy new year!!!!! I´ve been filling out your annual surveys since 2020, and I´m glad that you still carry them every year. Thanks!!
BSD Bibliophile is generally such a cool and useful resource, I’ve used it both for fun as well as for school work (I didn’t have my physical copy of Akutagawa’s works with me and needed to cite “Spinning Gears”/“Cogwheels”). Thank y’all for everything you do!
BSD-Bibliophile, the website and the Tumblr posts have been invaluable to me in my literary journey. I thank you so much for your service to the community, I can't express how happy I am that the lesser known or completely unknown authors are getting more western attention. Thank you so much!!
comments on my answers: I used to own more books but when I emigrated I could bring only one. The book I brought here from Russia is Dazai’s stories collection. Since many of the books are available in Japanese for free, I also read them on aozora app.
Finding Japanese literature from these authors is actually pretty difficult in Scotland. Also, Dazai and Nakahara are such fangirl answers, but I actually adore both of their works
First of all, sorry for my horrendous English 💀 I love this page so much! I was absolutely lost as to where to read the translations of the LN, wan! And others, it had been so helpful for me when it comes to my time enjoying BSD. Also, I enjoyed a lot that one section of like fun facts of the real authors and I was so happy when I found the bunch of English translation of the real authors, it really made my day.Now when I want to read a book of the real authors, or read something BSD related I know where ti search for first! I absolutely adored all the work you put into this (or the team (?) I don't know how mane people is running the page:(), thank you for all of it, keep going! 💗
for the images included on posts; the only thing i don't like about them is that they're a bit too tall (making the post look too long as well). i think images would still be nice if they were longer width than height! also, thank you for all of the work you do running bsd bibliophile! you've put together such an amazing and invaluable resource for bsd fans and non-fans alike.
Great work!
Have a nice day!!
Hello! - princy :3
Honestly, I would read stuff by the authors but I just don't have that kind of money
hope you are having a great day!
I absolutely love BSD it made me get into japness literature, as well did Bungo To Alchemist. ALSO BSD LIGHT NOVEL ON TOP!!
I appreciate the work you do! It has really expanded my taste in literature, and for that I am very grateful <3
I appreciate your work🥰😘❤
I believe that having more of a separation from the BSD characters and the real life authors in the bibliophile’s posts would be highly appreciated from a lot of other people; and not just myself
I bought Summer of the Ubume by Kyougoku Natsuhiko when it still was in print in English. I took it with me when rereading and lost my copy. I’m kicking myself years later for not buying a used copy for $50. Earlier this year I was able to borrow a copy from a library and took a picture of every page so I can keep it with me that way. I was delighted to find a scan PDF of the novel when your tumblr linked stories to read for Halloween. Thank you for sharing and thank you whomever made that scan. The BSD Gaiden novel is my favorite thing from BSD and I’m deeply thankful to the person who shared their amazing fan translation. It’s led me to buying all of the English translations of Ayatsuji’s works, plus the two volumes of the manga. I’m a newer follower of your tumblr, but have enjoyed reading each new quote and seeing ones I’ve recognized. Thank you for your work, it’ll definitely be inspiration when I want to read more Japanese literature.
I enjoy the BSD-Bibliophile page on tumblr! I like reading parts (?) of the authors' works and i've become more interested in their works. Thanks for all that you do!! :D
I have the page bookmarked in my browser so that I can check it out from time to time. Also I love Chuuya
I honestly love this website like literally. This bibliophile has helped me Soo much like finding the authors I want to read and learning more about the authors featured. Honestly, words can't describe how grateful I am that this site being created to help accessing literature more easier
I just want you to know that i adore all the effort that goes into this page and that its (In my opinion) a staple of the fandom
I look forward to the survey every year to see how far I’ve come in interacting with Japanese literature. Thanks for running the blog and library, it’s an amazing resource. Best, Comical tuber
I love BSD bibliophile so damn much, whatever BSD related author work and BSD manga (both wan and anthologies) weren't possible for me to find this easily. This website is the work of art. My favourite place
I love BSD-Bibliophile Online Library! Thank you for managing it!
I love the 'recently published' section!
I love your blog and what you do for the fandom! It really scratches the itch which is my obsession with BSD and classic/20th C literature <3
I love your site so much, it's made it so easy to get more info about Japanese authors and figure out what else I want to read. Thank you so much!i love your work!!
I personally believe that using advertisement through mangas and animes specially bsd connects me to the world of books one more time Also I’m grateful for free online websites for putting pdfs of books that I can’t easily have access in my country
I really appreciate all the information you have online here. I have learned a lot and I admire you and your passion. This might sound weird but I truly hope I can collect and read Japanese Literature and organise information as you do when I am older.
I really like your blog, keep it up :3
I really want to read Q's Dogra Magra but I think it's only been translated completely in french so far. Thank you so much for your database! It makes it so much easier to access learning.
I think it's so cool that you're doing these surveys! I think this bibliophile project is just awesome in general tho :) (also dang its hard to choose a fave char) lots of <3 <3 <3
I want to read many more books of the real authors so i cannot yet judge who my favorite will be. Dazai's works are the easiest to get access to in my country and I got Chuuya's poems as a gift so I am still hunting for more :)
I want to read some of their books but i'm to scared of telling my mom this fact ┻━┻︵ヽ(`Д´)ノ︵ ┻━┻
I wasn't sure if that question about reading Japanese lit was about reading it in Japanese or not
I will try to get more into this Library ! It's really good and good job for the the tumblr blog, i love it !
I would like if the quotes didn't repeat a lot– Like finding more than 4 posts of the same quote is weird to me at least... instead of doing the same authors in repetition, do more characters that have been published a few times in the blog 🙌🏻
I’m a BSD anime fan who would like to try some of the works by the authors the characters are based on but hasn’t gotten around to figuring out a good entry point for people who don’t usually read literature
I'm new to the fandom, but I'm looking forward to check out any translation that are available (I plan to read at least the work the ability is referring to for a start)
I'm so thankful for your website making Japanese literature available, as I live in a somewhat rural area. Keep up the good work!
I'm very grateful for the resources that had been accumulated by bsd bibliophile, really, I've only been able to nurture my interest in Japanese literature and grow to be passionate about it because I had such easy access to the translated works so thanks a lot for the work you do!
I've just decided to make use of the online library and I'm very excited! I'll check of Oda and Nikolai first because they are most interesting to me :)
i've remembered about the bibliophile purely by chance. in a span of a single night, i've read another media that draws heavy inspiration from japanese literature – ""hashihime of the old book town"". i say ""finished"", yet i'm only done with a single route of this novel. i plan on seeing it through the end. i am enamoured by this script. it's as If i've found true literature again. i truly do not know why im saying this. forgive me If my words are unclear in my ramblings. i am simply here to pick up some kyusaku. maybe then i will be able to fully unravel the fabric of this novel, thread by thread.
I've used this blog to help open myself up to more Japanese literature for years now, ever since I first got into bad, and I can't thank you enough for running this!
Just followed a little while ago so my answers probably aren't that helpful, sorry! I'm looking forward to going through your blog though! Hope you have a nice day/night! :)
Just started following the blog recently tbh, but I’m excited to check out the online library!
Keep up the good work!! :)
Keep up with the good work! I'm always happy to see your content
Love your blog and everything you do!!!
My 1st fav character is Atsushi, but Chuuya's also on top :))
My book count is prolly squewed as I had to go off of memory (since I left many behind in the US at my parents house). I counted Japanese fiction from non BSD authors but not manga and light novels. Also I used to watch & read BSD but no longer do so, but still enjoy Japanese literature.
sorry i took this for fun and wanna read a lot of multiple authors works but uh i havent come around to it yet (also money 😭)
Thank you :)
Thank you <3

thank you for you blog! literally my go to anytime i need any bsd related! it is literally invaluable and im so so grateful to you!
thank you for your hard work <3 i'm currently studying japanese, because i really want to read japanese literature in its original language and translate it, but until then i will continue relying on english translations - most of which i was only able to find on your site. again, i thank you and the translators from the bottom of my heart for providing us with such amazing resources and translations for free <3
Thank you for your hard work and efforts to share and compile the legally available works of the BSD authors! Your site has allowed me to appreciate BSD as well as Japanese literature itself a lot more.
Thank you for your hard work o7
Thank you for your hard work! Have a nice day:)
Thank you for your hard work! Was it not BSD-Bibliophile I'd be completely lost with researching irl authors and their art of writing. You helped me lots of times.

Thank you for your work and your posts! :D
Thank you for your work at BSD-Bibliophile. For the research that I am conducting and for leisure purposes, the curated library is immensely helpful. I am happy to see that interest has grown in Japanese literature alongside the depth of available resources.

Thanks for all your work! It's because of you guys that I've been able to read as much as I have (and will continue to do)!!!
Thanks for this resource, it's helpful as a Universal Literature student
the online library has really helped in finding japanese literature
The online library helped me so much in getting to know more about japanese literature thanks a lot for you ♥️
The website has been of great help to find my way around the literature! Truly a godsend! Keep up the great work
The world of literature is a big one & some of it aren't really that accessible. It's great that there are more people translating these previously untranslated works so we can see just how unique each author's style is
There were questions asking for "favorite Japanese BSD author", but those questions were very misleading. First of all, the characters in BSD aren't authors; they don't do or haven't done writing for living or anything along the lines. Secondly, said questions made it sound more like you were asking for whether I like Asagiri, Harukawa, Kanai, Hoshikawa or some other creators who are credited as authors of BSD. They are BSD authors, not the characters like you made it sound like in your questions. If you are asking about real-life authors who happen to have characters based on them in BSD, leave out BSD from the questions, or specify them with something like "Which Japanese author do you like the most, who has a character based on them in BSD?". Last I would like to suggest adding option to the question regarding BSD media, where people who are ex-BSD fans could specify that they've been previously fans, but don't consume or follow the series anymore. The option could be literally just "Previously have been BSD fan, but don't consume any of the official content anymore". I'm pretty sure there are plenty of people like me who have enjoyed BSD in the past, but now just enjoy Japanese literature alone or through some other medias that have nothing to do with BSD. Thanks for the annual survey as always. It's been interesting to see how much the fandom reads and who are the authors who people read in the first place. I wish more people would pay attention to some less popular authors, as there are plenty of hidden gems and your favorite author doesn't have to be the same as your favorite BSD character.
there's a redditor in r/templeofes who's working on translating dogra magra and they're working very hard :D
This blog is a national treasure, thank you all <3
This initiative is so beautiful, thank you for all the hard work.
This website is amazing!!!!!! It’s hard to find Japanese classics in America but this list has them all ❤️
Tumblr doesn't show me many of your posts, so I will try to interact more to see them ^.^
Very cool survey! Thanks
Well have have read many of Fyodor dostoevsky books but not any Japanese novels or poems
When I first got into bsd your online library was an invaluable resource and the only reason I have read works by bsd Japanese authors. I use it less now because my hyperfixation has waned but I still really appreciate all that you do and the resources made available to fans. Thank you!
will check the BDS-Bibliophile website <3 hope u have a nice day
yooo!! thanks for this super awesome survey!! happy easter <33 -a migrating tumblrer
You’re one of the best resources I have for BSD and JP literature. I’m eternally grateful for all the work you do

An Unnecessarily Comprehensive Sandman Reading Order
Having now read EVERY comic that I could find based on, using characters from, or tying in with @neil-gaiman‘s Sandman series, I thought I should provide what is, as far as i can tell, the definitive list of everything Sandman, in roughly the order of publication, and also what I thought of them. Warning: there’s a lot of it (over 580 issues in two and a half months).
Sandman (1989) #1-28 [Neil Gaiman] (x) (x) (x) (x) (x) (x) (x)
Obviously we start at the beginning (I hear it’s a very good place to start) with the first 3 main arcs of Sandman plus some single issue stories. This is where the series really leans into the horror side of “dark fantasy,” and I for one love it. Idk, there’s not really much to say here. This is a Sandman blog, we all love this series here, or at least like it enough to talk about it. Go reread this stuff. It’s fuckin good.
The Books of Magic (1990) #1-4 [Neil Gaiman] (x)
The original Books of Magic series is essentially a guided tour of the DC universe’s magic side. Each issue focuses on a specific part of the universe, most of which are callbacks to comics that, I promise, you do not need to have read. The main three reasons to include this is: a) it’s fun, b) Tim as a character gets his own series which becomes part of the Sandman Universe relaunch, and c) it’s a nice place to learn a bunch of DC magic stuff which might show up later without having to drag yourself through the wiki and or read a thousand other comics. Then again this list is over 570 comics long, so maybe that second part’s not much of an issue here.
Sandman (1989) #29-31, Special #1, #32-50 [Neil Gaiman] (x) (x) (x) (x) (x)
This begins with the Distant Mirrors collection (rather than placing them in the Fables & Reflections TP) and runs all the way to the end of Brief Lives and the Ramadan issue (essentially the end of Distant Mirrors, albeit two years later). Brief Lives and A Game of You are still my favourite Sandman collections, the best examples of what I call “human Sandman,” focused on dreamers and their lives and all that, and “Endless Sandman,” focused on the affairs of Dream and his funky family.
Death: The High Cost of Living #1-3 [Neil Gaiman]
The first Death spinoff! It’s based on the one-day-as-a-human thing she does, it’s a lot of fun, and other side characters from Sandman make an appearance! Look, we all know these are good. I don’t have as much to say about them as I do about the obscure comics from the early 2000s that it feels like only I read.
The Children’s Crusade: The Children’s Crusade #1, Black Orchid Annual #1, Animal Man Annual #1, Swamp Thing Annual #7, Doom Patrol Annual #2, Arcana (The Books of Magic) Annual #1, The Children’s Crusade #2 [Neil Gaiman, Nick Foreman, Jamie Delano, Nancy A. Collins, Rachel Pollack, John Ney Rieber, Alisa Kwitney] (x)
This is a crossover between all the big Vertigo titles, focused on the children of each series. Don’t worry about what’s actually going on in the individual series the annuals are from, but the overall plot (by Neil Gaiman) focuses on what the Dead Boy Detectives (Charles and Edwin from Sandman #25) have been up to since escaping Death. They get more very good spinoff content later on, and apparently they’re getting a tv show soon which should be fun.
Death Talks About Life [Neil Gaiman] (x)
This is the short AIDS educational comic. John Constantine has a banana. I like it, I think it deserves a place in this list. Apparently Neil Gaiman almost got arrested for it which is some king shit honestly.
The Spectre (1992) #19-22 [John Ostrander]
This is a very meh arc of a Spectre series that I have not read anything else of. But Lucien is in it briefly so I did read this bit. And in my opinion? Completionism was not worth this boring comic.
Sandman (1989) #51-75 [Neil Gaiman] (x) (x) (x)
The big finale! Worlds’ End and The Wake bookend the massive 12 issue The Kindly Ones arc, so I think keeping all of them together makes a certain amount of sense.
The Books of Magic (1994) #1-20 [John Ney Rieber] (x)
The start of the proper Books of Magic ongoing series (this series being one of my favourite things I’ve read for this) expands nicely on what we know about Tim from the Neil Gaiman miniseries. A lot of plotlines also get picked up from the Children’s Crusade event, and stuff from there is explained and expanded upon. Look, I love this series so much and I think that, while what the Sandman Universe reboot did with it was entertaining, this is still much better.
Sandman: Midnight Theatre [Neil Gaiman, Matt Wagner]
This explores the golden age Sandman, Westley Dodds, and also gives a look at Dream in captivity. The actual Sandman content isn’t a huge part of it, mostly focusing on character that are presumably a part of Vertigo’s Sandman Mystery Theatre series of which this is technically a spinoff. Still, it’s enjoyable, the art is nice, and we get a nice look at the Order of Ancient Mysteries that we don’t really see in Sandman.
Death: The Time of Your Life #1-3 [Neil Gaiman]
Death spinoff 2! This one focuses completely on Hazel and Foxglove after A Game of You and The High Cost of Living, and is less about Death herself (although this isn’t the Death spinoff with the least Death in it. We’ll get there).
The Books of Magic (1994) #21-32, Annual #1, #33-38 [John Ney Rieber] (x)
More of a transitionary period in the series, Molly gets sent off on her own subplot while Tim wanders aimlessly around America for a bit. The America stuff can get confusing and disjointed and doesn’t quite fit into a compelling coherent narrative, but Molly’s plotline more than makes up for it
The Dreaming (1996) #1-16 [Terry LaBan, Peter Hogan, Alisa Kwitney, Bryan Talbot, Jeff Nicholson] (x)
While the best bits of this series are yet to come, there are some good stories in this first, more loosely connected section. That being said, the first 3-issue arc in particular isn’t exactly a perfect example of what the strengths of this series will be, and really it’s just treading water waiting for a writer to come along with a good overall vision for the series. Don’t worry, that’ll come.
The Books of Faerie #1-3 [Bronwyn Carlton]
This seems like a fairly standard telling of an origin story, but it actually ends up providing insights into Tim’s actual true parentage which was left entirely up in the air in the issue of Books of Magic that this picks up from. Which is nice, because I was kinda confused.
The Dreaming (1996) #17-25 [Caitlin R Kiernan, Al Davison, Peter Hogan]
This is really where this series starts to show what it’s gonna be good at. The arc that begins in #17 is the first to be written by Caitlin R. Kiernan, and introduces characters, concepts, and themes which will become very important when they eventually take over writing the series, as well as just being really fucking good.
Vertigo: Winter’s Edge #1 [Neil Gaiman, Caitlin R Kiernan, John Ney Rieber]
These winter specials are always something of a mixed bag. For what’s relevant here, Neil Gaiman offers a Desire-based story which is confusing and vague and has little to do with Sandman aside from featuring an Endless, the Books of Magic segment is just a short and inconsequential adventure for Tim, and Caitlin R Kiernan clealy shines when they provide a Cain and Abel short which is both a fair bit of fun and establishes concepts and themes which will become very relevant for some of their later writing.
The Books of Magic (1994) Annual #2, #39-50 [John Ney Rieber]
It’s time for a big ol’ finale for the John Ney Rieber run on this series! A whole bunch of characters return! Excitement! Action! Magic! Chocolate! A surprise twist involving a character from very early on in Sandman! What more could you want, really?
Destiny: A Chronicle of Deaths Foretold #1-3 [Alisa Kwitney]
This is essentially a series of historical stories that loosely connect to one character who is somewhat linked to Destiny. It’s good, even if the stuff about a huge plague in the 21st century is a weird read now, and the individual issues are also pretty long. Don’t go in expecting a spinoff starring Destiny or providing insights into how all his shit works. The story is rather built around him, like a lot of Sandman around Dream, or the next-but-one item on this list around Death, and if you take it with that in mind you’ll enjoy it more than if you expect something it’s not.
The Dreaming (1996) #26, Special #1, #27-34 [Caitlin R Kiernan, Len Wein, Peter Hogan]
The Many Mansions arc, beginning with #27, is the first section of The Dreaming that’s felt like it’s really shaken up the status quo, and has taken big risks with the characters in service of the story. One of the main strengths of the series, in my opinion, is the fact that it allows what were simple running jokes, exaggerated horror hosts, or side characters to Dream’s angst a time to shine, both in the sense that they get the spotlight, but also that they are allowed to change, grow, and don’t end up in the same role as the series continues.
The Girl Who Would Be Death #1-4 [Caitlin R Kiernan]
This is a spinoff of The Dreaming and ties in with characters that Caitlin R Kiernan has already established, as well as establishing a few more, rather than being a sequel to Gaiman’s previous Death series. As with much of their writing in this universe, it’s got a brilliant atmosphere and fascinating characters. Also, it’s now canon that Death was at least one lesbian’s gay awakening which I think is the most realistic thing that’s ever been shown in any Sandman comic.
Vertigo: Winter’s Edge #2 [Neil Gaiman, Peter Gross, Caitlin R Kiernan]
The Sandman segment in this one is much stronger in my opinion, pulling on threads that are hinted at and explaining things from Sandman to give a good look at Death as an actual character. The Books of Magic story is the same sort of thing as the previous years, just a nice inconsequential short story with Tim. Again, though, Kiernan’s The Dreaming story is the best of the ones that I bothered to read, setting up things for the future and also providing some down-time to acknowledge the way that the status quo has shifted.
Sandman Presents: Lucifer: The Morningstar Option #1-3 [Mike Carey]
The beginning of another major spinoff line! This one’s fun, and also the start of the Sandman Presents collection of miniseries that came out from 1999-2004. Its plot also sets up the events of Mike Carey’s subsequent Lucifer series, so read this is you want the start of that to make any sense at all.
The Books of Magic (1994) #51-56, Annual #3, #57-63 [Peter Gross, Peter Hogan] (x) (x)
Idrk what to say here, I’ve already talked at length about how much I love this series. The exploration of private school culture is interesting even if it doesn’t last, and the multiversal implications of the Other are also very fun. That being said, sometimes the Peter Gross run does feel like it’s repeating what happened earlier (awful things happen to Tim’s dad, Tim gives away his magic, an imposter Tim takes his place, idk).
Sandman Presents: Love Street #1-3 [Peter Hogan]
I have no idea if this miniseries contradicts any of John Constantine’s established backstory from Hellblazer but personally, I really enjoyed this one. It finds a way to involve itself in the Sandman universe that justifies its Sandman Presents title, even if the fact that it’s a Hellblazer book could have been more clear. It’s also good to see more of the dreaming during Dream’s absence, and show what the dreams themselves actually did then.
The Books of Faerie: Molly’s Story #1-4 [John Ney Rieber]
IF you can get past the fact that this series has the ugliest art out of any comic I’ve read, the story here is really neat and it’s always nice to see Molly back, and any exploration of Faerie is usually enjoyable. Just, give yourself a second to get used to the art. Molly really doesn’t look like herself.
The Dreaming (1996) #35-43 [Caitlin R Kiernan] (x)
The culmination of Echo’s story has a big ol’ pile of transgenderism, and despite what certain other sandman blogs will tell you, the ending of Fox and Hounds is not just a repeat of The Wake and really, I don’t know how one might come to that conclusion. For one thing, it’s not the end, nor is it as grand in scope, and for another, it scratches my brain in a particular way because, on a more meta level, the ending grapples with how the concept for The Dreaming differs from the concept of Sandman, and how that difference impacts the story and the characters.
The Books of Magic (1994) #64-67 [Peter Gross]
While I know that part of the whole point of this series is that Tim can’t really settle down anywhere for long, this little home he makes in these issues is by far my favourite and I wish it had lasted longer than the Peter Gross run on the series. Also, this is where I started my “hey Tim... you ain’t cis” crusade and I need everyone to know that this child is very very queer.
Vertigo: Winter’s Edge #3 [Neil Gaiman, Caitlin R Kiernan, Peter Gross]
Another weird Desire story that I’m not too fond of from Neil, and Kiernan’s Dreaming segment is nice enough, but my favourite is the absolute pure fluff of the Books of Magic part, which crosses over with Sandman again and also seems designed to make me ship Mary and Joh as hard as humanly possible and, believe me, I do.
The Books of Magic (1994) #68-75 [Peter Gross] (x) (x)
Another big finale, and this one actually represents more of an end of an era than #50 did. Gross ties it back in with the very beginning and resolves a bunch of loose plot threads, as well as giving cameos to a bunch of characters from the John Ney Rieber issues so that The Names of Magic can transition to a different sort of story. It’s just a shame that we have to ditch the entire recurring cast again. Ah well.
The Dreaming (1996) #44-49 [Caitlin R Kiernan]
This is just the Trinket arc which resolves, or at least brings back, most of the loose ends to do with faerie, with Cluracan and the Nemesis and Nuala returning, and also brings back everyone’s favourite transphobic witch.
Sandman Presents: Petrefax #1-4 [Mike Carey]
Look, word of warning, there are a lot of slurs used here by a writer who evidently does not know that’s a slur for romani people. Gritting my teeth and putting that aside, when this series actually gives Petrefax something to do that’s relevant to his skills it’s quite fun. But that only happens a couple of times in the whole series, a significant proportion of it is just fantasy worldbuilding I really don’t care about, and also did I mention they keep saying a slur? Because they do.
Lucifer (2000) #1-13 [Mike Carey]
I wasn’t immediately a fan of this series, but once it starts building out its recurring cast and gets into the characters a bit more, this is really fun. I was 100% sold by #4.
The Dreaming (1996) #50-60 [Caitlin R Kiernan, Bill Willingham] (x) (x)
Another series draws to a close, and while the last arc could have maybe done with another issue just to give it a little more time to flesh things out and provide a satisfying conclusion for every character, this series is so good, if you don’t mind it the fact that it all basically gets erased from contuniuty by the time of the Sandman Universe publishing line (I guess due to the New 52 or some other DC relaunch, or at least that’s the excuse that I expect they used) I would absolutely recommend it as a followup to Sandman, especially if you don’t want the shift to modern comic styles that the other option leaves you with.
The Names of Magic #1-5 [Dylan Horrocks]
Since Books of Magic #75 ended with Tim proclaiming that he finally knew who he was, was free from his destiny, and wasn’t going to be looking for someone to lead him, and now he was meeting his future on his own terms, having his first move be “ask for help” and then have him shoved in the direction of school by a bunch of more established adult characters seems kinda antithetical the the whole point of that last series. Still, this sets up the next series neatly and isn’t too annoying to get through.
Sandman Presents: Merv Pumpkinhead, Agent of DREAM [Bill Willingham] (x)
This book is one long extended James Bond joke. I do not care about James Bond. What’s going on? Why should I care? Why did the woman have sex with a pumpkin man? Help.
Lucifer (2000) #14-32 [Mike Carey]
Ahhh, now we get to the good shit. The Lucifer series reaches its first Big Event Where A Bunch Of Shit Goes Down in the Paradiso, Purgatorio, and Inferno arcs. I don’t know enough theology to tell you if most of this comes from Jewish or Christian teachings but it’s interesting and probably at least slightly heretical so I’m down.
The Little Endless Storybook [Jill Thompson]
This is cute. No other reason needs to be provided. Read it, it’s cute. (Also if you can find a copy I imagine it is a much better experience if you have a physical copy)
Sandman Presents: Dead Boy Detectives #1-4 [Ed Brubaker]
If slightly frustrating with its actual detective side, this is a fun series that explores the boys and how their ghost powers actually work, and I look forward to what the next writer decides to do with them (and apparently they’re getting a show!! fuck yeah) (also uhhhh more like gayboy detectives amiright gamerz?)
Hunter: The Age of Magic #1-11 [Dylan Horrocks] (x)
It seems the little nosedive Tim’s story took in Names of Magic was only a short one, because right out of the gate Age of Magic is fantastic. The timeskip is slightly disconcerting, but it means we can skip all the “Tim learns magic” “Tim fucks another girl” “Tim discovers things” stages of his schooling and just have him finish and leave as quickly as possible, after using the setting to establish all that it needs to, and Tim can be free to do his own thing rather than being stuck in a “misadventures at the magic school“ style story.
Sandman Presents: The Corinthian #1-3 [Darko Macan]
This one’s mostly atmosphere, but it’s good atmosphere. It’s nice to see a little of the original Corinthian (rather than the rebooted version from The Dreaming) and how exactly he went bad, and what he was doing while Morpheus was imprisoned. Apparently elements of this (with the Corinthian’s experience in WW1) will be involved in the show, which is good because I can point at the screen and go “ooh! ooh! I know this one!” while my dad’s trying to watch, which is always fun.
Sandman Presents: The Thessaliad #1-4 [Bill Willingham]
I really wish I could like the Thessaly spinoffs. I love the character (despite her being claimed by TERFs apparently) and I wish we got more of her history, more of her being ruthless and cold and calculating, I’d especially love it if we explored how her normal life functions and how she does magic, but no, instead we get comedy hijinks with Fetch, the most annoying character to be introduced so far. Also the art is by Shawn McManus who is by far my least favourite Sandman artist and the only thing I actively dislike about A Game of You.
Lucifer: Nirvana [Mike Carey]
This is one of those fancy graphic novels with painted art and so on, but all that achieves is making it harder for me to focus on the story really. Tethys the Raven shows up which is neat. At least The Dreaming is still canon at this point.
Hunter: The Age of Magic #12-25 [Dylan Horrocks] (x) (x)
Big wrap-up of everything established from Names onwards, and a good end to the series, even if bringing back Molly again starts to get slightly tiresome (just let her live her life away from Tim. She’d be fine).
Sandman Presents: The Furies [Mike Carey]
Some of the Sandman Presents stories are spinoffs, or stories that happen to be set in the universe, but this really does feel like somewhere between a sequel and an epilogue to The Kindly Ones, giving Lyta more resolution than she got in the few pages she showed up in during The Wake. The “fancy graphic novel” problems I mentioned with Nirvana do make it a bit annoying to read, but it’s a good and interesting look at a character who got slightly left behind by the story once she’d succeeded in killing Dream off.
Hellblazer: Lady Constantine #1-4 [Andy Diggle]
I’m sure there’s parallels and references that I don’t get because I’ve only read the first few dozen Hellblazer comics, but this was really fun! Johanna is such a fun character and I loved her dynamic with her kid even if I knew they were gonna snuff it the minute they showed up.
Lucifer (2000) #33-40 [Mike Carey]
The Naglfar arc is my favourite sort of comic arc: every recurring character thrown together on a mission and forced to get along. Also, shit goes down with god and while I’m not gonna pretend to know what the precedent is for all this in the Tanakh or in the christian Bible, I’m enjoying whatever is happening immensely.
Sandman Presents: Bast #1-3 [Caitlin R Kiernan]
This is Caitlin R Kiernan’s last offering to Sandman, and it’s also one of their best. The exploration of Bast as a character and how the death of gods actually works is really good, honestly just read it, I’m not sure what else to say except it’s a shame this is the last comic of theirs in this universe.
Death: At Death’s Door [Jill Thompson] (x)
This one’s just a fun look behind the scenes of Season of Mists with Death, Delirium, and Despair dealing with all the dead that have just turned up. The style is so fun, I love the vibes, and also anything that gives Delirium a lot to do is an instant favourite.
Sandman: Endless Nights [Neil Gaiman]
The first of Neil’s followups, and while some of the more abstract or disconnected stories like Desire and Despair’s feel like they’re just there to fill space and give a chapter to every Endless, the (small) through-line of Delirium’s grief is really nicely done, and, again, this captures the consequences of and provides a followup to the ending of Sandman in more depth than The Wake did
Lucifer (2000) #41-49 [Mike Carey]
This part of the series splits its time, mostly focusing on Elaine and Mona’s fates, along with the rest of the supporting cast, while Lucifer does important overall plot things with the angels. I’m not complaining, though, this series has such a good cast of characters and I’d happily read a spinoff with any of them.
Sandman Presents: Thessaly: Witch For Hire #1-4 [Bill Willingham]
Reaching the end of the Sandman Presents series and this is how the original line of spinoffs ends. Not with a bang, but with an aimless and annoying whimper that really isn’t doing any of the things I want this character to be (except murderous. I do enjoy when she kills people). But I think Bill Willingham is somewhat allergic to writing a story with a dark tone that isn’t filled with constant jokes. Like, yes, having comic relief is important in every story lest it become grimdark edgy nonsense, but I would rather see Thessaly at her most fucked up and evil without a ghost trapped in a mirror doing a Funny Bit every other page. Maybe that’s just me, though.
Lucifer (2000) #50-61 [Mike Carey]
Reaching the endgame of the series, and almost every element that was set up gets involved in the last few dozen issues. Not sure what to say, this shit’s just really fucking good. Go read it!
Dead Boy Detectives (2005) [Jill Thompson]
If your detective story ends with the detectives putting together the clues to solve the mystery and publicly confronting the villain and then the villain explains that actually it was all innocent misunderstandings and they’re not guilty at all, I think maybe you shouldn’t be writing detective stories. Also all the crossdressing jokes got old very fast. This is by far the worst of all of these, and there’s some bad shit on this list at points.
Lucifer (2000) #62-75 [Mike Carey] (x)
The gert massive finale of this fantastic series really doesn’t disappoint. Characters get their arcs resolved in a mostly satisfactory manner, it does what DC did a few decades earlier in Crisis On Infinite Earths with resolving a multiverse in a much neater and less confusing way, and we learn that the god of the DC/Vertigo universe looks like the stereotype of a tory civil servant from the 1970s.
Madame Xanadu (2008) #6 [Matt Wagner]
The way Death is used in this is really interesting. For one thing, according to Death the whole “i give you a __” ritual is just set dressing for the intent which summons the Endless, so either Burgess did something really wrong or Death can tell when it’s a trap and tell when someone just wants a chat (and Dream is too stupid to tell and was also understandably destracted in 1916).
The Brave and the Bold (2007) #1-12 [Mark Waid]
The "Lords of Luck” arc, if kinda confusing, is interesting and brings in the Destiny elements in a cool way, even if the way they write Supergirl is sometimes uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh gross. The “Book of Destiny” arc, by contrast, is just a series of tangentially linked stories and some of the most generic superhero comic stuff I’ve ever read, and the Book itself is only an afterthought in #12. Also, they gave Destiny the fancy Desire font instead of the harsh bold italics. Come on guys.
Action Comics (1938) #894 [Paul Cornell]
Another standalone Death issue within a broader series I have no interest in reading. She’s fun here too, and I always enjoy someone making Lex Luthor have a little bit of an existential crisis. This also seems to be the first significant appearance of Death outside Vertigo since the imprint began, as TBATB is for Destiny and Metal is for Dream.
Sandman: The Dream Hunters #1-4 [Neil Gaiman]
The story that Neil Gaiman accidentally trolled a bunch of academics in a tiny afterward to this story is very funny to me. I read the comic version rather than prose, I’m sure the prose is also very good because (shocking) Neil Gaiman happens to be a good writer.
House of Mystery Halloween Annual #1 [Bill Willingham, Mark Buckingham]
Not much here innit just a fun merv story. If I wasn’t going for 100% I would not have even brought this up.
Dead Boy Detectives (2014) #1-12 [Toby Litt, Mark Buckingham] (x)
This is THE Dead Boy Detectives series, it’s the best by far because, amazingly, if you let your detective characters do detective work, the story is more engaging! Also, the series introduces a fantastic supporting cast, and actually delves into Charles and Edwin’s characters and all their masses of trauma from, y’know, being murdered. Also got me excited about the tv show they’re apparently making. Please let it be like this series and not like the shitearse Jill Thompson one. Please.
Sandman: Overture #1-6 [Neil Gaiman]
I have no idea why the reading list on the back of my copy lists this before Preludes and Nocturnes. Like yeah it’s a prequel technically, but if you hadn’t read Sandman before, reading it first would be a very bad idea since it hinges on lore from the series and also spoils the ending if you didn’t know what happened. If you have actually read Sandman though, yeah it’s fucking good idk what to say. It slaps.
Lucifer (2016) #1-19 [Holly Black, Richard Kadrey]
Honestly, I would have enjoyed this regardless of the writing because it has my favourite artist from my favourite Marvel series, Loki: Agent of Asgard (go read it. do it.), but the writing is also fantastic. It’s the perfect example of a followup that on the whole respects the original series, the themes established, and where the characters were left, before bringing things back into the fold in a realistic way to do something new with them, instead of just resetting continuity so that you don’t have to deal with somebody else’s recurring cast, *ahem*, the entire Sandman Universe reboot you do good things but you could leave some of this in canon, *ahem*. (Speaking of The Dreaming, the inclusion of Matthew makes this the first concrete confirmation that the 1996 series isn’t canon any more, which did make me a bit sad). Well worth a read if you’re a fan of the original!
Dark Nights: Metal #1-6 [Scott Snyder] (x)
It’s your usual boring comic book crossover event. Dream shows up and it sort of sets up the Sandman Universe series, but mostly this is about the usual multiverse bollocks that DC always does. "Batmanium” did make me laugh, though.
Sandman Universe #1 [Neil Gaiman, Simon Spurrier, Kate Howard, Nalo Hopkinson, Dan Watters] (x)
Plenty of setup here, but since I have no idea where any of it’s going I think I’ll just... Let my reviews of the series themselves do the work here instead.
The Dreaming (2018) #1-12 [Simon Spurrier] (x)
The issues with the start of this series are a lot more complicated than just “bad writer” or “incorrect characterisation”. In some cases the old characters are spot on, and the new characters are all fantastic, but something about the way Merv and Lucien develop in the first few issues feels a little forced. This series could have absolutely benefited from what the original Dreaming had - short story arcs focusing on specific parts of or people in the Dreaming that slowly, slowly come together to form a larger whole - and just slowed down the breakdown of Lucien and whatever they were going for with Merv enough that we get a good sense of where it comes from. Instead (probably more due to editorial rushing and a need to get the Big Threat of the first arc in the picture by the end of #2 to appease convention in modern comic storytelling, than the intentions of the writer), the political commentary and character progressions end up a bit hurried and I’m left with a feeling of “Yes logically I get how we got here, but like... how did we get here?”.
All of that being said, once it manages to get into the swing of things, this series is honestly a worthy successor to the original, even if I’m still annoyed about it replacing the original continuity entirely. The way that other Sandman characters are slowly brought in is really nicely done, and the development of the central mystery is intriguing and develops at a perfect rate to give answers, but also keep my interest going.
House of Whispers #1-12 [Nalo Hopkinson, Dan Watters]
Now this feels like Sandman. I love the characters, both human and godly, and the Ananse storyline makes me fall victim to my greatest weakness once again: stories that are about stories, that acknowledge that they’re stories, that twist the narrative of the tale it’s spinning and in doing so acknowledge the consequences of the characters existing in a world defined by narrative conflict. That’s my shit! Also I think it’s really cool that a comic published by one of the big two comic companies has a nonbinary character that uses neopronouns who also defines zirself as queer. Ze are iconic.
Lucifer (2018) #1-13 [Dan Watters]
The style and tone of this is very different to the other two Lucifer comics, and it exists outside of the continuity established by them (hence Lucifer having no scar, Remiel and Duma still ruling hell, Mazikeen’s dialogue takes a while to get used to, etc). Instead of being about the end of the universe and Lucifer’s attempts to get out from Yahweh’s rule while also saving the world surrounded by a huge supporting cast of characters we sympathise with instead of him, this series makes Lucifer pathetic in the best way. It’s much more introspective, and focuses on Lucifer, his ex-lover Sycorax, and their son Caliban, and how their relationships evolve. Also, the art is by far the best out of any of these Sandman Unvierse comics.
Books of Magic (2018) #1-13  [Kat Howard]
Again, a very different take on the same character. I’m not sure I like this one as much as Lucifer though. The focus is on the Cold Flame and Rose from the original Neil Gaiman series, although some elements from the Rieber/Gross series make it through, in particular some interesting things are being done with Tim’s dad. This is fun enough, and I’m interested to see where it goes, but I still much prefer the style of the original.
The Sandman Universe Presents: Hellblazer [Simon Spurrier]
This one-shot spins out of the 1990 Books of Magic miniseries, and explores what the fuck was actually going on in that potential future they showed. I’m sure it also ties into various bits of Hellblazer but, as already mentioned, I haven’t read more than a couple dozen issues of that series yet and it still made sense.
The Dreaming (2018) #13-20 [Simon Spurrier] (x)
The finale to this series is so good! Like I said earlier, the way that the mystery is slowly revealed works so well, and bringing all the threads together slowly is so satisfying when a writer can do it well. Also, the things it does with Lucien as the narrator in a meta sense is very fun.
House of Whispers #13-22 [Nalo Hopkinson, Dan Watters]
The way that this series builds its characters and worlds is so good, the balance between the human and godly characters especially. I’m also a big fan of how weird-looking the Corinthian is, I think some artists forget to draw him like a nightmare who’s slightly out of sync with reality in a “he looks creepy as fuck sometimes” kinda way.
Lucifer (2018) #14-24 [Dan Watters]
Word of warning: you will need to find the 3rd TPB collection if you want to read the actual conclusion of the Wild Hunt arc, because #19 was never published and the next collection was #20-24. I think it had something to do with covid, idk. Putting that aside, the art here is great and I love the way Lucifer works in this series. Probably the best of the initial four Sandman Universe lines.
Books of Magic (2018) #14-23 [Kat Howard, David Barnett]
The second half is much better than the first (as it seems is the case with a lot of these) , and the finale arc pulls in a few other Sandman related characters which are all fun (even if they don’t always make sense entirely). It’s still nowhere near as good as the original Rieber/Gross series, but it’s fun in its own way.
John Constantine: Hellblazer (2020) #1-12 [Simon Spurrier] (x)
I have not read enough Hellblazer to compare it to what came before, but this is an absolutely fantastic series. The tone is brilliantly managed, the supporting cast is endearing, John’s arc is engaging, and the series knows when to be funny, when to be brutal, when to be horrific, when to be tragic, when to be political, and when to force me to look at a drawing of Boris Fucking Johnson.
The Dreaming: Waking Hours #1-12 [G. Willow Wilson] (x)
This is the most Sandman-feeling SU series, and I mean that in a good way. We get a good amount of seeing Daniel in action, the cast of new characters are all fun, and it feels like a good followup to The Dreaming without stepping on its toes - it uses the new characters as a natural part of the universe, and utilises the plotlines left hanging in a good way. My only real problem with it is a problem I have with a lot of comic series that only run for a dozen issues - the wrapup is a bit rushed to fit it all into one issue, we don’t really get time for the characters to settle into their endings before it’s over.
Locke & Key/Sandman #1-2 [Joe Hill]
The first three-quarters of this are very fun, but it does get a bit boring once they go to hell. Lucifer feels out of character, and I do not have any idea what the normal Locke & Key series is about, so there’s no way for me to be invested in these characters. The stuff that actually takes place in the Dreaming itself is fun, though, and I like the look into Fawney Rig during Sandman #1. Also, it’s always very funny to see a series have to write itself around continuity and go “hey hang on, why don’t the various dreams go rescue Dream?” While we don’t get a satisfactory answer to that, it’s not really what they were focusing on anyway so I have no reason to get angry about it like some people might.
Nightmare Country #1-? [James Tynion IV]
This series is only four issues in at the moment so I can’t say anything conclusive, but it’s got some great creepy shit in it (some of it reminds me of Caitlin R Kiernan’s work with the Corinthian in the original Dreaming) and I was convinced enough by it to pre-order the next two issues, which I look forward to reading!
---
I’m probably meant to put a conclusion paragraph here but my English teacher would probably agree when I say I’m kinda crap at them. The best long series to spring from Sandman are Lucifer and Books of Magic, Caitlin R Kiernan was the best writer on The Dreaming, and Waking Hours is probably the best of the Sandman Universe books but you’re absolutely in safe hands with any of them. The Sandman Presents comics are good for the most part, but the quality varies wildly. Every time there’s a non-Vertigo series which involves Sandman characters it’s probably not worth it. Don’t bother with the Dead Boy Detectives graphic novel, read the Litt/Buckingham series instead. And most importantly, don’t tell me that I forgot that one 2008 (?) House of Mystery series. I did indeed forget it, but to be fair I didn’t know it existed until I saw a copy in the library the other day and I cannot be bothered reading it now.

Oh, thank you so much for clarifying! I am again so sorry that's how I took it, but I read and reread and thought about it and I could not see how you actually meant it! It upset me to think you might think that and I'm very glad I was wrong!
Now that it's all clear, I'm afraid I can't say I agree with your thoughts about Nina and Maggie. The ball was too far and completely unfair to the people he was manipulating for his own fantasy, but I don't believe he'd use temptation or miracles to force Nina and Maggie together. In my opinion, I don't think he really cares if they get together. While he does seem to genuinely like Maggie and I think he would like her to be happy, he is rightfully far more focused on Jimbriel. He has to try to get them together because that's his excuse to the archangels, but if his matchmaking doesn't work? Oh well, his massive miracle attempt didn't take it seems. Such a shame. Please continue to ignore the guy in the sweater vest.
That's just my view of events though! Everyone has their own and disagreements about them are natural. Again, I'm sorry for my misinterpretation of your words and thank you for clarifying!
No need to apologize!
Sometimes I screw up my wording and I'm always happy to clarify, and if you disagree in the end then that's perfectly fine! I'm always curious how other people interpret the same situation.
With Aziraphale and how far he'd go with his miracles—I'm not actually sure. Like, I think it is certainly possible that he would use miracles in a temptation/emotional manipulation way, but it is also possible that he does not care enough to try it or simply doesn't want to.
If you had asked me about Aziraphale doing something like the ball before season two, my answer would probably have been "he wouldn't".
I did not think he'd manipulate people like that, but then he did! I did not think he'd ever treat Crowley the way he treated him this season, but then he did. So my expectations around him are completely off-balance and knotted up, and while there are many situations where I can be quite certain my predictions are correct, there are some where it comes down to actually seeing him in it.
Another question is also what he would have done if e.g. music shop guy hadn't agreed to come even with the Doctor Who annual on the table. Since this is about the ball itself—which he wanted to happen so play out his fantasy with Crowley—his approach might be different compared to his matchmaking one.
Would he have forced him to go and do what he wants or would he have looked for an alternative? Although once he has set his mind on something, he will do whatever is necessary to get it.
But yeah, bottom line—always ask if you're unsure about something I said, absolutely no need to apologize 💚

Rereading ACOSF. This was a tough book for me to get through initially and the same holds for round 2. But there are some passages i feel like i completely missed the first time that now have me dead.
Cassian normally looked forward to Winter Solstice for a host of reasons, starting with the usual three days of drinking with his family and ending with the riotous fun of his annual snowball fight with his brothers.
Followed by a steam in the birchin and more drinking, usually until all three of them passed out in variously stupid positions.
One year, he’d awoken wearing a blond wig and nothing but an evergreen garland around his groin like a loincloth.
UHM i literally spit out my coffee.
i need... i need...
fanart.
that is all.

Princess - Frat! Tyler Galpin x FEM! Reader
Literally all I can think about is Frat Boy! Tyler. OMFG I need him out of my head.
Summary: As the presidents of Alpha Sig and Theta Chi, you and Tyler have to Co-Host the annual ASA/THETA CI Halloween party together
Warnings: Tyler is a bit of an ass, language, smut, mirror sex, Dom Tyler, unprotected sex (USE PROTECTION PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!) not proofread!! 🫣
Tumblr media
You ran over your mental checklist, checking to make sure that everything was set up perfectly for the annual Alpha Sigma and Theta Chi Halloween dance.
As President of ASA, you had more responsibilities than others, having to overlook food, music, drinks, and decorations. Your duties were supposed to be shared with the Theta Chi President, Tyler Galpin, but you had guessed the guy, whom you hated, had no plans to help you out., even though the party was at his fucking frat house.
Your phone buzzed.
where r u???? we were supposed to start getting ready 40 min ago!
you typed a reply to your best friend.
Tyler never showed.
what an asshole
You laughed at the message before doing one last check that everything was in place.
As you turned to leave the big room that was designated for the party, you saw Tyler in the doorway. He was looking around the room, at all of your hard work, that he would more than likely take credit for.
“Looks good, Princess.” You rolled your eyes at the nickname he’d given you freshman year. His signature pretty smirk stretched across his lips sent a flutter through you.
“Thanks for helping, dickhead.” You pushed past him. locking the door to the mansion.
The two of you stood in silence with him smirking at you and you glaring at him.
You knew he was going to bring up the duo costume you were required to do, and Tyler, being Tyler, had basically forced you into being a Prince and Princess.
“Can’t wait to see you in what I picked out.”
That was another thing. In the midst of you doing all the heavy lifting, Tyler got costume duty. You had yet to see what he had chosen for you to wear.
“Tyler, I swear to GOD-” He stepped closer to you, his large hand reaching up to move a fallen strand hair behind your ear.
“Don’t worry, Princess.” His voice was low and smooth. “I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.” His eyes glanced down at your parted lips and then back to yours before winking. “After you, M’Lady.” He let you pass him as you walked down the stairs of the frat house, decorated to a “T” for the spooky holiday. “See you tonight!” You got into your car and drove the short way to the ASA house.
...
“Holy shit.” You stepped out of the bathroom, wearing a pale pink princess costume, complete with a fully boned corset. Your friend stared at you, mesmerized by the gorgeous dress Tyler had picked out. You had feared Tyler was going to give you a slutty nurse costume or something like that, but he had, of course, surprised you. It fit you like a glove, the sparkly pink corset extenuating your waist perfectly. You had pinned up your hair in a pretty updo and topped it with the beautiful gold gown Tyler had given you. Complete with your simple but pretty makeup, you looked like a million bucks.
“Holy shit! Galpin has great taste.” You couldn’t help but blush, your cheeks mirroring the color of your dress. Your friend was dressed as Dorothy, the rest of your friend group completing the Oz gang.
You glanced at yourself in the mirror, wondering what you would look like next to him. Maybe even on his arm...
“Fuck.”
You had to get there early to welcome the guests and you were already running late. Your phone buzzed.
I’m outside, princess.
You had to reread the message Tyler sent before replying.
What?
What kind of prince would I be if I didn’t take my princess to the ball in a carriage?
“Tyler’s outside.”
“What?”
You showed her the messages and her eyes widened.
“Shit! What do I do?”
She rolled her eyes.
“Go!” You glare at her and she shrugs in reply. “He’s hot.”
When you got to the main entrance of the house, you paused. Through the window you could see Tyler and an actual fucking coachman. Tyler had rented a horse and carriage ride for the two of you.
“And here the lovely lady is.” His devilish smirk was back, contrasting the large gold crown atop his head.
You had to admit, he looked handsome in his costume, a white medieval blouse with a dark blue cape attached to it, a fake sword sheathed at his waist.
You fought off the little voice in your head that said he always looks handsome.
Tyler held his hand out to you as you got closer to the white carriage. You couldn’t help but blush under his gaze as he took in your costume, suddenly nervous.
As we settled into the carriage, Tyler leaned into your ear, whispering in a low voice that gave you goosebumps, “You look absolutely beautiful.” His hand was still holding yours from when he helped you into the carriage but neither of you let go.
You’d assumed that Tyler would have the coachman go straight to the frat house and when you asked he said,
“What kind of royals would we be if we didn’t make a grand entrance?”
“Tyler we have to be there fir-“
“Don’t worry, M’lady. It’s handled.”
After a carriage ride through a nearby park, the party had been going on for around 40 minutes and Tyler asked the man to bring you to the house.
Your heart beat when the driver slowed down, the horse coming to stop in front of the grand staircase. Once again, Tyler helped you like a gentleman. As you walked up the steps, his hand slipped from yours which made your heart sink, just a bit.
The wide doors were open, the music blasting, sorority girls and frat boys everywhere.
Your breath caught in your throat when you felt Tyler’s hand on your lower back, guiding you further into the large room.
To be honest, you had felt like you were in a cliche. Like in a Disney movie when everyone stops to watch the beautiful girl, or in this case, you and Tyler.
His hand gripped you a bit tighter and he pulled you closer to him.
A group of girls in skimpy costumes immediately formed a half circle around Tyler, telling him how great the party was. You tried to slip from his grasp to go find your friends but Tyler pulled you back into his body.
“Thanks ladies, but you’d have to thank my lovely Y/N for the party. After all, my little princess planned everything, didn’t you?” You suddenly felt shy in his presence, like he was forcing you to be praised, which, in a weird way, was attractive.
“Yes.” Was all you could manage out. But, it was clear that the girls were only interested in Tyler, and not the decorations you had meticulously hung around the space.
“Alright girls, I’d love to stay and chat but M’lady needs a drink.” He flashed his million dollar smile and led you away from them.
You felt so awkward. Having spent the last hour with your rival who was undoubtedly also whom you had fantasized about for four years. It felt surreal. You downed a shot of Tito’s, not wanting to think about it anymore.
Of course, because of course he had, Tyler had hacked your Spotify and added a slow song to the party playlist you had curated. When you heard the music your eyes widened, embarrassed that you had forgotten to double check your playlist. You hadn’t realized that the floor had cleared and that Tyler was standing in the middle of it.
“Y/N.” You looked to your friend, frantically trying to find the device to change the song.
“What!??”
She motioned with her head to where he was standing, causing your mouth to fall open. Everyone was watching.
Tyler held his hand out to you, grinning.
“Girl if you do not dance with him I will kill you wi-“
You cut your friend off by slowly walking to meet him.
“May I have this dance?” You rolled your eyes before placing your hand in his.
“Yes, you may.” His grin widened and he pulled you in close, placing one of his hands on your back. You brought your free hand to his shoulder.
”Everyone is staring at us, Tyler.”
“I’m pretty sure they are watching you, babe.”
“What? Why?” Tyler’s hand left your waist to tilt your chin up to him, his thumb just barely touching the bottom of your lip. Your breathing went ragged.
“Because you look fucking gorgeous.” He opened his mouth to say something else, but stopped himself. He brought his hand back to your waist and smiled at you.
Of fucking course Tyler could dance. Except for actually fucking sucking, he was perfect. More people took to the dance floor with their dates, which made you more comfortable.
Tyler could feel you relax in his arms. He removed his hand from yours, bringing it to your waist, pulling you in closer. You now were swaying awkwardly with your hands hovering over his chest. He was trying not to laugh at your flustered self, your cheeks pink and how you wouldn’t make eye contact with him. Tyler knew he made you nervous, hell that was the reason he was such an ass to you, so he could watch the effect he had on you. And dammit if you didn’t have the same effect on him.
He wanted so badly to dip his head and kiss you but knew it probably wasn’t the best idea.
“Sweetheart just put your arms around my neck.” Your heart beat faster at the new nickname but you did as you were told. Unfortunately, this meant that when you looked up, you were basically nose to nose. You watched, mesmerised by him, how his eyes travelled to your mouth, how his tongue darted out a bit to wet his, the slightest tighten of his grip around you, how when he looked into your eyes once again, his pupils were blown and his smirk was back.
Fuck.
Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.
You cannot be turned on right now. Not by Tyler Fucking Galpin!
The universe seemed to read your mind and the slow song ended, leading you to unwrap yourself from his grasp. He looked a little startled as you smoothed out your dress.
“I gotta go find my friends.” Before he could respond, you were gone, leaving Tyler alone amongst his drunk classmates.
You had been successfully ignoring Tyler, your heart, and the slight ache between your legs for the past few hours, mingling with friends, being a good host, ect.
Suddenly you felt a presence behind you and thinking it was Tyler, you didn’t turn around.
“Do you wanna dance?” A voice that did not belong to Tyler surprised you and you turned around. In front of you stood a blonde guy, dressed as Fred from Scooby Doo, who you vaguely remember seeing at other parties. The first thing you thought was
He is not as attractive as Tyler.
Not wanting to be rude to the guy you agreed and followed him to the dance floor.
The two of you danced to the upbeat music, his hands resting on your waist.
You forgot about Tyler for the time being, getting lost in the music. It felt nice, dancing with someone random, having fun.
Unbeknownst to you, Tyler had been watching you dance with your new friend. He was pissed. He had been so generous. Bought you a very nice dress, rented a carriage for the night, slow danced with you at a fucking frat party, and this is how you were thanking him? He was glaring daggers at the blonde guy who you had been grinding on for the past minute. Tyler snapped when the guy turned you around, trying to pull you in for a kiss.
“Oh fuck this.”
He hightailed it to where you were, wrapping his hands around your waist, pulling your back against his front.
You were startled to say the least, ready to turn around and slap whoever just grabbed you but when you heard Tyler’s voice in your ear, your heart stopped.
“The fuck do you think you’re doing Princess?” His lowered voice sent shivers down your spine. Tyler’s eyes locked on your dance partner who was standing in disbelief at the two of you.
“Listen man, I didn’t know she-” Tyler interrupted him.
“Get the hell out.” He didn’t wait for a reply, promptly turning the two of you around. His large hand grabbed yours, leading you up the stairs.
“Tyler! Where are we going?” You tried to shake your arm from his grasp, but he just tightened his grip. He led you into what you figured was his room. “Tyler we were just dancing!” You jumped as he slammed the door.
“Oh really?” His fingers grazed your arms, his hot breath on your neck. “You were just dancing with him?” You look up and realize that you are in front of a mirror. Tyler’s eyes are on yours. He still looks devilishly handsome, his crown sitting perfectly atop his head.
You, however, look flushed, from the dancing, your cheeks reddened, your chest straining against the tightened fabric of the corset, the tiara on your head slightly off center.
Tyler’s eyes scan down your body and you feel his hand travel to your lower back, right on the tie of your corset, playing with the strings. You can hear the music from the party downstairs but all you can concentrate on is Tyler. The heat radiating off of his body, the featherlight touch of his fingers on your waist, the way his eyes were locked on yours.
“Were you avoiding me,” his voice lowered as he dipped his head further into your neck, “princess?” Suddenly, Tyler pulled you flush against his body, causing you to gasp. “Answer me.” You had to look away from him, far too embarrassed to hold his gaze.
“Yes.”
Tyler laughed.
“I’m gonna ask you a few questions and I’d like you to answer honestly.” His hand slides up your waist, up the fancy pink fabric of your corset, skimming over the hot skin of your chest, and up to your chin. Tyler tilts your chin up with his fingers, bringing your gaze back to his before his hand settles gently on your throat.
“Do I make you nervous?” His mouth was right by the shell of your ear, his voice sending shivers down your spine. All you could do was nod. “Use your words, princess.” Heat rose to your cheeks.
“Yes.” Tyler grinned.
“Now why is that, baby?” Your body subconsciously reacted to his words, rolling your hips back into his ever-so-slightly. He chuckles and his lips graze your neck.
“Be-because I…” His eyes lock on yours through the mirror again, a evil grin spread across his lips.
“Because you…?” His lips return to your neck, finding a spot to behind your ear, pulling it between his lips. You gasp, your hips rolling back into his again.
You remain silent, because you are embarrassed, you tell yourself. Not because you are too enthralled in Tyler’s movements. His hand on your throat tightens and your eyes meet his.
“Don’t make me ask again.”
Your arms erupt with goosebumps and you are certain Tyler can feel the heat radiating off of you.
Still, you don’t answer, hoping to remain neutral to his touches.
“Hmm.” You can see a wicked glint in his eyes. “Guess I’ll just have to fuck the answer out of you then.”
Your eyes widen at his vulgar words but you can’t help your body’s reaction. You can feel him, all of him, pressing into your back.
His mouth returns to your neck, his lips and teeth finding any available skin to mark.
You try to conceal the sounds that are coming from your mouth, to no avail. Tyler already knows the effect he has on you. The effect you have desperately trying to avoid the entire night.
“Tyler…” His lips leave your neck and you turn to look at him. You take him in, his beautiful eyes, his swollen lips, his permanent smirk, and the fucking crown that seems to be superglued onto his perfect hair.
His gaze locks onto your lips and your heart races.
Before you can finish your sentence, his mouth is on yours. Tyler’s kiss is hungry. You moan into his mouth and feel him smirk.
Not breaking the kiss, Tyler turns you to face him. You barely register the fact that he’s backed you up against his door. Your hands travel to his face, bringing him impossibly closer while his bring the fabric of your dress up. You break the kiss when you feel his touch on your bare thigh.
“Oh what’s wrong, Princess?” Your blush is permanent and you can’t meet his eyes, only watching where his hands have come to rest on your skin. “Afraid that I might find out how you really feel about me?”
Yes.
You want to say it.
You could feel your arousal. And soon, Tyler would too. And his suspicions would ring true.
“Just say it and it will be so much easier, princess…” One of his hands leaves your thigh to return to your neck, bringing you to meet his gaze again. “I’ll give you what you want either way.” Your thighs squeeze together, Tyler’s hand caught in between them, making him laugh. “Sweetie you’re only hurting yourself here. The quicker you say it, the quicker-“
“Tyler, please.” He stops at your words.
There is silence for a few seconds.
“I need more than that baby.” His hand slides up your thighs, making you gasp.
“Fuck.”
“Oh a pretty lady like you shouldn’t use words like that. Try again.”
You glare at him and suddenly his knuckle drags against your core. You spasm, struggling to keep the curse words from leaving your mouth.
You look at him again and the fucker is grinning.
“Tyler…” You pause to collect your thoughts, and whatever is left of your dignity before continuing. “I’m attracted to you. And I don’t want to be so I was- I was avoiding you.”
“So you like me?” The grin hasn’t left.
You don’t respond right away so Tyler brushes his knuckle against you once again.
“Yes.” You whisper.
“Would you like me to touch you now? I think you earned it, don’t you, princess?”
You can’t help but nod.
He’s gone from your vision in less than a second, on the ground between your legs.
You could take a picture, Tyler Galpin in between your awaiting thighs, a crown sitting atop his head while he looks ready to devour you whole.
His hands slide up your thighs to your underwear, which you had matched the best you could to the corset he’d provided. Tyler groans as the lacy pink fabric comes into his view.
You step out of your panties, wobbling a bit on your heels, but Tyler steadies you. He hooks one of your legs over his shoulders, taking you in. You flush at the fact that you can feel yourself practically dripping for him. You make eye contact with him once more before he dives in.
Tyler’s mouth latches onto your clit, sucking it like his life depends on it, making you let out a strangled moan. Your hands grab onto the back of his head, pushing him further into you. Tyler’s tongue licks up your cunt, dipping into you slightly before swirling around your clit. You gasp, unable to find words, and so he does it again. And again. You feel your release coming, tugging tighter on his hair and his mouth latches onto your clit again, sucking it through your high.
Your gaze travels to the mirror where you see yourself against his door, gasping for air, while Tyler is seeking purchase between your thighs. The sight pushes you over.
As your euphoria hits you, Tyler’s younger is there, making sure he gets every last drop that comes out of you. You struggle at the sensitivity but his grip on you tightens, forcing you to his mouth.
When he’s sure he has licked you clean, he stands, grinning again. He follows your gaze to the mirror.
“Oh… little princess likes to watch herself get fucked, now does she?” He doesn’t wait for an answer before pulling you closer to the mirror, placing your hands on it.
“Don’t move.”
He stands behind you again, gaze on yours while he pulls your skirt up. You hear him undo his belt and zipper. You close your eyes.
“Eyes on me, Y/N.” Your eyes open instantly, finding his in the reflection of the mirror.
And suddenly, you feel him. You have no idea what to expect, not being able to see him, but your body is ready, cunt dripping once more.
“Count of five?”
You nod.
“Five. Four. Three-“ Tyler thrusts into you, one hand gripping your waist, the other next to yours on the mirror.
“Asshole!” You struggle to adjust to his size, trying to calm your body down after he went two seconds too early.
“I’m full of surprises.” He slams into you again, eyes locking in on yours.
His hand once again finds your clit, rolling it between his thumb and pointer finger as his hips slam into yours.
You desperately try to contain the noises, but how can you when you are watching him fuck you like that? The sight of him alone could make you come. The two of you, a prince and a princess, the gold crowns sat atop your heads, a perfect match.
You moan his name as he pinches your clit, coming once again as he groans into your neck.
“God you’re so fucking pretty, baby.” He keeps drilling into you, fucking you through your high while chasing his. You watch him in the mirror, head hurried into your neck, his strained hand on the mirror, fingers barely touching yours, his other hand deep within the fabric of your dress.
Tyler spills into you, letting out a deep “Holy shit.”
His head leaves your your neck and he grins at the sight of the two of you, mostly you, too fucked out to care about what comes next. You whine as you feel him pull out of you, zipping his pants back up. His hands return to your waist, pulling you back into him.
“So girlfriend, why don’t we go rejoin the party?” He kisses your neck, leading you to the door.
“Tyler… give me my underwear.” He grins.
“You know what, princess? I think I’ll keep ‘em for now. That way if you talk to another guy, you’ll feel me dripping down those pretty thighs of yours.” He winks at you before leading you back down the stairs.
:) god I’m so goin’ to hell.

some of my favourite books of 2023
I decided to put together a list of some of my favourite books of 2023. I'll write a couple of lines for each one, and leave the link to my full review as usual in case you want to read a bit more of my thoughts. The list is in no particular order, and I did not include any rereads I did during the year.
Gideon The Ninth by Tamsyn Muir and the locked tomb series
I finally read this series and absolutely fell in love with it. Gtn was surely my favourite out of the three. I had an amazing reading experience. I didn't know what to expect and I was pleasently surprised by the very funny narration. It got into my favourites right away, and I cannot wait to reread it this year. (it's too complicated for me to describe the chaos that this series is so all you get is my general feels)
My Lesbian Experience With Loneliness by Kabi Nagata
This is a manga about the author's personal experience dealing with her sexuality and depression. It was an incredible read, I was not expecting to get as emotional as I did. It was a stunning book that felt incredibly honest, and I am so glad I read it because it had a huge emotional impact on me.
The Priory Of The Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon
I think this is the book with which I had the best reading experience this year. I remember being intimidated firstly by the size of this brick of a book and then at the very beginning by the world I knew nothing about, but I got into the story so quickly. I remeber struggling putting the book down both in the evening and in the mornings, to the point where I had to run to my bus stop to commute to uni, because I spent too much time reading this novel. I adored it, it made me fall in love again with epic fantasy. I also think this could be a great starting point to the genre for people who don't read much fantasy.
A Psalm For The Wild Built by Becky Chambers
This book went straight to be pile of my annual rereads. It was such a comforting read I feel at peace just thinking about it. This is the core of falling love with life again by focusing on the small things, and I am so grateful for this book. I have yet to pick up the sequel but even on its own this is a book you need to read.
Il Satiro Scientifico: Riprodursi Male curated by Barbascura X
This is a collection of short non fiction about reproduction exposed in a lighter tone with the goal of making science more approachable for a larger audience. It was amazing. It made me feel so motivated to pick up more non fiction that is not academia-related. I learned so much, it was a great note to end the year on.
honorable mentions:
The Sandman vol.11 - Endless Nights by Neil Gaiman in particular the short story about Dream. I have been thinking about that story non stop since I read it. It made me feel so emtional over a detail, I loved it. It's one of my favourite Neil Gaiman's ideas.
Nimona by ND Stevenson - I am one of those people who found out about this graphic novel after the movie came out and I loved it. I am still to this day making jokes related to this with my brother, it was one of my favourite graphic novels of the year.
The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang - I decided to include this book mostly because I had a great reading experience with it. I was at the seaside, and I had the chance to fully immerse myself into this novel and overall had an amzing time with it.
Hell Followed With Us by Andrew Joseph White - I have been thinking about this book so much ever since I read it. From now on if someone asks me a ya rec this is the book they will get. It was an amzing mix of dystopia and horror, and the themes of religious trauma and queer rage were used amazingly. It actually left me wanting to read more about queer rage.
De Profundis by Oscar Wilde - yet another book I keep thinking about. And the more I think about this book the more I fall in love with it, it might even be my favourite Wilde I have read to this point. It was not a light read, it was very emotional but I am so glad I finally picked it up.

“Nikolai had been told that hope was dangerous, had been warned of it many times. But he’d never believed that. Hope was the wind that came from nowhere to fill your sails and carry you home.”
Tumblr media
oneshots
needy and tired (poly!nikolai x reader x david) (♡) → Even with two partners, getting attention can sometimes be a bit difficult.
“And I actually need to focus right now.” he started, earning a frown from you, “Why don’t you go and annoy David? That’s why there are three of us after all.”
laughing on the outside, crying on the inside (☾) → Their relationship wasn't going to work out anyway, so why did leaving it behind feel so wrong?
“Watch where you’re going. You may be the prince’s whore, but in the end, you’re not worth more than a mere commoner. I wouldn’t be proud of being Lantsov’s mistress.” Her voice was harsh and laced with straight venom. The other Grisha gave you mocking smiles, straightening their backs and continuing to walk away, leaving you in shock.
you take my breath away (♡) → What happens to the oh so charming Nikolai Lantsov when he starts crushing on someone that - quite literally - takes away his breath?
The Squaller groaned, hauling the papers towards herself again. The two of them had been wasting their time in his sitting room for hours on end, flipping through files and files of eligible royal women that could become Nikolai’s future wife. It was hell - for both of them - but Ravka needed a queen. So as king, it was his duty to find someone that could rule alongside him.
cold feet (♡) → Right before the annual winter ball, you start getting cold feet.
“Darling, have you seen my…oh.” Nikolai entered your shared bedroom, his eyes landing on you in an instant. He could have sworn that he felt his jaw drop when he saw you.
lay my curses out to rest (☆) → When the curses take a toll on him, he needs someone to be at his side.
“Let’s hope that the demon really is that simple-minded…” Zoya grumbled, giving you a telling nod and spurring her horse into a hasty trot. You and the twins followed.
Tumblr media
two-parters
i want you to want me pt. 1┃pt. 2 (☾ / ♡) → The reader and Nikolai are supposed to get married soon in order to please their parents. But is marriage really the right path, when they visibly can't stand each other? Or is the apparent hate just a protective mechanism? Who knows. (I do.)
Nikolai, however, dropped his polite demeanour, once his gaze met yours. He scowled, rolling his eyes dramatically, as he watched Zoya move forward to hug you. The group surrounding him seemed to be focused on their own discussion now, completely disregarding your appearance.
the one you think about as you lie awake pt. 1┃pt. 2 (♡) → After being friends for almost her entire life, the reader never thought that her and Nikolai would ever be anything more than that. But after a new strange feeling settles between the two of them, they both have to learn how to deal with it.
The man in question chuckled, shaking his head with a grin. He sat hunched over his desk, looking over some half-finished translations, which he definitely did not write, judging by the neat handwriting on the paper. From where you were sitting, you could see every little feature that would normally be almost unnoticeable.
in the bright lilac light pt. 1┃pt. 2 (☾ / ☆ / ♡) → After Nikolai gets badly injured, the reader throws all caution to the wind to go and see him. Is there still a chance for him to survive?
You felt sick. Violently sick. At this point, you would have preferred hunching over the toilet to empty the contents of your stomach than obsessively rereading the slightly crumpled-up letter you held on so firmly. It didn't matter how many times your eyes skimmed over the neatly written lines, the words didn't magically distort and somehow create a different sentence. They stayed the exact same.
there will be rain pt. 1┃pt. 2 (☾ / ☆) → A funeral, a coronation and quite possibly another funeral.
Things between Nikolai and Vasily had been going well, great even, with the occasional bumps and disagreements. After their short-lived argument on whether or not he was to invite Fjerdan delegates to the crowning ceremony, their relationship bounced back pretty quickly. You hadn’t heard of any major arguments between them until now – the evening before the coronation.

Alright. Here’s a giant IDW Silver analysis that has been quite a while in the making. Prepare yourself.
WOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOO I AM FINALLY GETTING TO THIS HUNK OF AN ANALYSIS AFTER PROBABLY A MONTH OR SO OF STALLING. For context, here’s the reblog where I mentioned I’d one day analyze Silver’s character in the IDW comics:
And now here is a disclaimer:
This is gonna be a huge, gigantic, mongo beast of an analysis! I don’t know how rushed the ending will be and I don’t know how many images will be included, because I took a lot, and I mean A LOT of screenshots! There is so much material to work with here, and I didn’t even include the annuals! So please, make yourself comfortable, grab a snack and some water, and enjoy the read! It’s most likely gonna be my longest one yet!
Oh and also there are gonna be some pretty big spoilers for the IDW Sonic comics so be sure to read it all before reading this. It’s all connected…
Now, without further ado, let’s get on with the show! Finally…!
———
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bruh. Before we even meet the guy, we can tell what kind of person Silver is. Before Sonic can land a hit on the robot, Silver cuts in, smashing the bot to pieces. And to me, the way he does it isn’t meant to be some basic way of taking out a badnik. When rereading the issue to get some good Silver material, I noticed how everything from the torso and onwards is smashed to pieces by Silver, whereas the rest of the robot is left just chilling on the ground. To me, this is Silver just neutralizing what is actually a threat, the blades, and taking notice of what is the threat and getting rid of it easily. First panel and we already see his perception skills in action!
We see more of it not too much later on in the issue when Sonic is pointing out what kind of powers were used to kill off the other badnik. Silver is leaning in closely, drinking in every words Sonic says, as if he’s learning some secret sensei technique or something! Silver is learning from Sonic about different wispon types and learning how to be more perceptive. Overall, Silver just likes to learn!
This part of his character makes a huge impact on himself as a whole! Silver is anything if not eager and naive, and that shows in a lot of what he does and the expressions he makes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is also where his admiration for Whisper comes into play. Silver adores Whisper at the start of his time in the comic, and aspires to be just like her as well as everyone else one day! She even saved his life! Why wouldn’t he wanna be like her?? All of this just shows how young and naive the white hedgehog is, and how much he truly doesn’t know. Silver doesn’t know how plants grow, he doesn’t know how people work, he doesn’t know anything! And this is where his obvious lack of social interaction comes in.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Silver spent a majority of his life without anyone to look up to. (Assuming the events of 06 did not take place and he really was on his own) He didn’t have any parents, no family, no friends, no home, nothing! The poor boy was completely on his own in a charred, desolate world full of nothing but despair. And throughout that time, he was almost helpless to stop it all. Silver knew there were still people out there in his time, knew there were people just trying to survive, and all he could do was take care of himself. He was starving, cold, and alone. No one came to save him because he could never save them.
This all grows inside Silver’s gut until it becomes just a big, ugly blob of loneliness. All his life, Silver desperately wanted, needed someone to be there for him, needed someone to hold him and tell him it’d all be okay. He needed a savior. So, to mask his insecurities, he finds saviors in Blaze, Sonic, and Whisper.
Tumblr media
Yeah yeah, I know. Just shut up and we’ll get back to this in a moment.
All three of these characters saved Silver’s life at one point or another. Shadow did too technically, but we’re focusing on the IDW timeline here and Shadow hardly interacts with Silver in this comic so we won’t be talking much about him. ANYWHIZZLE, Silver holds these three in high regard, and looks up to them. He considers Blaze his first ever friend, (And as a Silvaze shipper I see them as an item) thinks of Sonic as a legendary hero, and sees Whisper as his Guardian Angel. All people whom he only knows due to his time traveling abilities. If he didn’t have the means to do time travel, he would never know these people and thus would never have any friends or family. He wouldn’t have any hope. And that’s why the connections Silver makes with others creates such a big part of his personality and it’s why he feels so “Off” in 06, because back in that nonexistent reality he only had Blaze. He had something, but it was hardly enough to keep him alive.
However, just like all of us, when you leave such insecurities to boil in your gut for such a long time, when you leave it to rot for so long, it eventually just kinda. Blows up on you. In your face. In front of everyone.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don’t have many good examples without going into the next section so this is all you’ll get for now
Silver is a young, naive, complicated fool. He has so many things whirling around in his head all at once and it’s suffocating him. He doesn’t want to ruin anything for himself or for others, so he bottles everything up in hopes that it’ll all end up fine in the end. But when it does eventually explode on himself, he can’t help but make things worse for everyone else.
Take his short time with the Diamond Cutters, for example. He was dealing with a lot at the time, trying to juggle the stress of knowing his own time is safe while also wondering why he’s even back in the past. He doesn’t know what to do, and that all comes to a head when he suspects the worst about Duo. His suspicions are correct as we all know, but he doesn’t know that, and neither do the Diamond Cutters. He makes a mess of the Restoration HQ just to try and prove a point, which gets him booted from the team, and he can’t do anything afterwards except sulk in his garden.
In short, Silver tends to bottle up his emotions/problems until it all just explodes in his face and he then shuts down from all the intense feelings. He ends up confused, numb, and desperately needs guidance.
Now let’s move onto his power set, and OH BOY does this boy love to show off!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Silver is incredibly prideful in what he can do, and it most definitely shows when others praise him for it. However, there are some limits, and those limits are big!
Silver can only move things with his mind. It’s telekinesis, not pyrokinesis.
He needs to focus to be able to use his power.
Broski has auDHD
He also has anxiety
Welp. As you can see those are all some very big limitations.
When you have powers that can only function when you are focused and know what you’re doing, and when they also only work when you can see what you’re focusing on, well… It doesn’t really help you very much when you’re best friend and idol is a super speedy hedgehog that can go at Mach 7 if he feels like it. Silver’s insecurities combined with his anxiety and auDHD AND his survival instincts… They don’t mix too well. Don’t get it twisted though, he is still a master and psychokinesis and he uses his power shockingly well considering those circumstances. He can do so much cool shit with just his brain alone and it is insane! However, he can’t just do anything with it.
Tumblr media
Just like what he says here! Haha~!
It also provides an explanation for this.
Tumblr media
Silver just wasn’t focused during this time and was probably holding his own against a pretty big army of badnik already, so he wasn’t prepared for this funky little guy. Simple.
Now, back to his insecurities because YES THERE’S MORE. OF COURSE THERE’S MORE. THIS BOYO LIVED THROUGH AN APOCALYPSE FOR LIKE 13-14 YEARS OF HIS LIFE. OF COURSE THERE’S GONNA BE MORE.
Considering all these limitations and how quickly and easily Silver can lose focus, and also considering how young and naive he is, it’s safe to say Silver just can’t compare to all the others in the past.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Silver is always constantly comparing himself to them, always pushing himself to do better, digging himself into a rut deeper than the abyss. He looks up to all these people like they are more powerful than him, like they matter more than him, and that leads to him getting hurt more often than not.
Tumblr media
LIKE. JUST. I KNOW THEY WERE LOW ON STAFF BUT JUST READ THAT AND TELL ME THAT DOES NOT SOUND LIKE A CASE OF IMPOSTER SYNDROME. LOOK AT ME DEAD IN THE EYES AND TELL ME THAT. POOR SILVER.
This all comes to a head though in the battle between Silver and… Uh… Whatever the depressed guy is called, the depresso Zeti guy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In this fight, Silver is going up against someone who can only see the bad in people, who can only see a world of bleakness and despair. Depresso hates anything that is joyful, despises anything good in life, and only wants to see people be as sad as him. He’s a petty, pathetic loser.
But at one point, Silver was just like him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Look at this and tell me this doesn’t give off the same vibes as the fight scene lol
But yeah! Silver was once as hopeless and depressed as Depresso over there! He had no hope for the future, had no way of knowing if anything was gonna be alright, had no one to look up to… Safe to say he was most likely worse than Depresso! But due to his age and the knowledge that there were still people out there, still families wandering in groups hoping for daybreak, he held onto what little hope he had left. He probably ended up saving a few people and they thanked him, and that probably gave him the push he needed to keep dreaming. Just as his own song Dreams of an Absolution suggests!
“Struggle, wriggle, writhe and cry! You can’t escape, you’ll soon be mine.”
That sounds like a certain someone’s depression talking~! And when Silver first attacks Depresso and says “I can be direct! Cover me!” That is Silver’s way of saying “I can’t do much against my own emotions without being upfront and blunt about it, but I also accept your help in fending them off. Will you help me if I accept such help??”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And when Depresso asks, “How can you be so disgustingly heroic and selfless??” Well, Silver responds with this:
“Because I have faith in others. I believe things will get better… And because I have a Guardian Angel watching over me!”
Silver got better, managed to fend off those dark thoughts that plague Depresso, because he is able to look up to people. He is so young and eager to learn that he doesn’t see anything bad in having faith in others and asking for help. He’s prideful in what he can do, but unlike Sonic and Shadow, his pride and insecurity doesn’t overshadow his willingness to learn and get help from others.
———
AND MAN. I WOULD ADD SO MANY MORE IMAGES IN THIS IF TUMBLR ALLOWED IT SO I WILL SAVE THE REST OF THIS ANLYSIS FOR A PART TWO.
Why? Well, because we’re literally on the very cusp of the ending for this thing (Finally) and I can’t just end this giant analysis off without adding any funny Silver pics! So please be patient while I come up with a part two for this whole thing. Such a shame I can’t add more images for now, but this will have to do.
THANK YOU SO SO MUCH FOR READING THIS GIANT-ASS POST. I KNOW IT TOOK YOU FOREVER TO GET HERE, AND I COMMEND YOU GREATLY FOR FINISHING THIS. Part two will be out soon hopefully so stay tuned for that!

Hi there! Just wanted to reach out as I'm going to start my annual re-read of BLCI and thank you for this work of art (no joke here) you have put out into the world :)
Know its been a while since the last chapter and completely understand that life can get in the way but I sincerely sincerely wish you do have plans to continue it :) If you have any Beeromir (?? not sure if there is a ship name? Can't figure out how to do the squared symbol on my laptop for B squared...) tidbits that you are willing to share I would be forever grateful.
Thank you again!! :)
ANNUAL REREAD??
Tumblr media
I'm trying- and failing- to find the right words to express how much this means to me. Thank you so much!! I am hugging this ask to my heart (or I would if I wasn't scared I'd break my laptop). And thank you for not giving up on me- I never meant to go on a hiatus at all, although I did realize that there were still some plot points I needed to iron out before I could move forward with the fic. And then yeah life got in the way. Still, things are looking up- I turned 30, found a therapist, am taking ADHD meds, got an inhaler, traveled solo overseas for the first time, saw the northern lights- I am unstoppable!! XD
ANYWAY! I am very much still working on this fic, and I have a good chunk of the next chapters done. I don't trust myself to give a specific date lol, but it'll be updated again, I promise!
I'm pretty sure at some point I shared the first few paragraphs of the next chapter on tumblr in another ask, but I'll post the beginning of the chapter here as proof that progress is underway and as a thank you for such a wonderful ask! Feel free to reach out any time to chat about fanfics or fandom stuff in general <3
Chapter 33 snippet:
Damn it, the AC is out again.
That was my first disoriented thought as I woke up, overheated and uncomfortably flushed. I tried to wipe the perspiration from my forehead, but my right arm was trapped at my side, numbness buzzing down my fingers. Huh? Sluggishly, my eyes creaked open—and all at once my heartbeat accelerated so fast the cabin seemed to spin.
Boromir’s chest was pressed against my face. The warmth of his skin nearly burned through his rumpled undershirt, and the weight of his torso was squashing my nose into a pancake. He must have rolled over in his sleep, because he was nearly sprawled out on top of me now, his chest and shoulder pinning the right half of my body to the mattress, one of his legs thrown over mine from inside his crumpled bedroll. He was snoring softly.
Oh. A giddy, guilty laugh bubbled up in my chest, and I smiled against his skin. How had I thought this was uncomfortable? I could have stayed here forever, Boromir’s body draped over me like a weighted blanket, his slow exhales ruffling my hair.
But beyond the bulk of his torso and our tangled mess of blankets, a weak ray of sunlight had filtered into the cabin through the crooked shutters hanging over the window. It was morning.
Arm’s length, I’d promised myself. Keep him at arm’s length, starting tomorrow. And now tomorrow was here.
My heart sinking, I poked at his side with my free hand. “Boromir? Hey—Boromir? You have to wake up.”
“Y’r voice…” His voice was thick with sleep, slurred and low, and his right hand slid blindly along my bedroll to splay possessively against my hip. “Mmm, Valar, say m’ name again…”
Heat of an entirely different kind flooded my limbs, and I shoved at his chest in a near panic. “Boromir, wake up!”
“Eh?” Boromir staggered to his feet so quickly I thought the bed frame might break under us. “Beatrice!” He was breathing hard as he turned to face me, dashing a hand through his hair.
I stared up at him, unable to move, trying and failing to look as though I wasn’t about to burst into flames. “Good morning,” I croaked.

Now I feel really bad about Dave. Please let us have all your thoughts on this 💖
OH NO I was being dramatic and now it's come back to bite me in the ass. I will learn nothing from this experience and will do it again. 😂
I admittedly have not done my annual Charioteer re-read (though I did scroll through the "tc fandom reread" tag each day like it was the morning paper). So here are my half-formed and probably inaccurate thoughts about Dave:
-He's a fatherly figure! We love that!
-He was in love with Andrew's dad and never told him, and then Andrew's dad died! We love tragedy and angst!
-His wife gets killed and he's grieving! We love that as well! Seriously, kindly, mild-mannered, fatherly figures who have tragic backstories are my catnip, can't get enough of it.
-I also just think it's really funny that Laurie is all jealous of him. Honey, calm down, he's not trying to get into Andrew's pants.
-He stopped Laurie from speaking with Andrew at the end! Look, I can see why people would have issues with this, but I am a Ralph girlie (gender neutral) through and through, and really don't care that much about Andrew. So I have no issue with this. He's just looking out for his boy! And I'm sorry, Laurie, but Ralph needs you more.
@carrotcakecrumble help me out here, you've at least read the book more recently than I have!

what story/book has impacted you the most?
Ohhh good question!! I get a lot of my personality and influence from various books, mostly ones I read with my dad when I was definitely too young for that kind of genre fiction and he was frantically trying to read aloud the sweary bits so he could edit round them rather than leaving me with them (hhgttg my best friend and only fond memory of one terrible holiday). I think in regular life, one of the books I reach for most is Night Watch by Terry Pratchett. There's a huge emphasis on social change, revolutionary ideals and the radical idealistic spirit facing up to the reality of everyday issues of keeping everyone fed, clothed, and healthy ["You'd like truth, justice, and freedom, wouldnt yoy Sergeant?" "I'd like a hard boiled egg."]. There's a lot of reflection on your own history and your own future. There's a major subplot about the slide of civil society into fascism and about the vital importance of keeping a close fucking eye on yourself to make sure you never let yourself leap to that kind of extremist blinkered violent position. There's a recurring phrase in there which is to the effect of "the world is huge, and horrible, and terrifying, and incomprehensible, but there's one good deed that is the next thing you can do, and all anyone can ask is that you do it, and all that needs to drive you is that you must do it, you must take the next step with the thought in your mind of trying to make this next bit hurt the least it possibly can" - You Do The Job That's In Front Of You, and sometimes that job is defusing a riot and getting scared angry people a safe haven with soup and hot tea to keep them warm and maybe giving some of them arms to take up against tyranny, and sometimes it's training honesty into the new kids on the job, and sometimes it's standing up for what's right even if it gets you a beating, and sometimes it's sending everyone else to safety and staying back just to make sure the fascist burns to death in agony, because someone has to, and it shouldn't have to be anyone else. We're slowly approaching the annual reread for the 25th of May and honestly one day im gonna get a tattoo for it
