Miracle!!! on Ice (Animage 2017/01 Yuri!!! on Ice booklet) Hayashi Yuichiro's comments (ending storyboards, staging, key animation)
Part 1.
Fireworks on the beach
The location is a beach in Hasetsu. Yurio is covering his ears, because he's not used to Japanese fireworks, the type you can hold in your hand. At first he's very cautious, but soon he starts to have fun and wave them around. I wonder if he's going to try to fire at Yuuri this type of fireworks you set on the ground (laugh).
Tumblr media
Wine is the protagonist?!
It's a photo that one of the skaters posted on their social media, and it's simply a photo of a scenery. The location is France, and the vibe I went for is "I'm relaxing while drinking wine at a cafe". It would be boring if all shots had characters in them, so I included this one as a breather.
Tumblr media
Christophe Giacometti
The figure skating season lasts from fall until spring, and summer is the vacation time. In this scene we see Chris relaxing at home, playing with his cat during the vacation season. During a staff meeting with the director, Sayo Yamamoto, she told me that it's fine to give every skater a some kind of pet, and that "in case of Giacometti that would be a cat, for sure". When I asked the director about Chris' image, she's said "What I can tell you is that for sure he's erotic", so I had a lot of trouble with coming up how to show his eroticism in everyday life situations (laugh).

For the Character Bingo, I’m interested in your take on Yurio as we’ve never discussed him!
Tumblr media
thank you for sending this, bestie!
send me a character(s) to bingo!
okay so, as you know, you're not the only one who sent his name in. i've put my current feelings for him in an earlier post, and just for funsies, i'm now adding my first impressions of him.
aight, here goes:
Tumblr media
(you'll notice he already was, and will forever be to me, a pathetic wet cat of a man boy)
LISTEN. this was like, until halfway through my first viewing of the anime i think? and Yurio just... annoyed me So. Much. i could have murdered the guy, except he had the vague excuse of being a teenager. when i found out the fandom loved him so much i was like???? how??? why??? very much an snk Eren vibe to him that did not Do It For Me.
it took a while, but i guess i warmed up to him, and his character growth throughout the second half of the anime definitely helped change my mind.
i'm now proud to say that in cat language, i would gladly tolerate being in the same room as him ! -with several meters separating us for both our comfort. i'm not sure i'd slow blink his way..? okay no i would. probably. and he'd hiss like the angry lil kitten he is.

Phichit managed to catch Otabek as he was hauling in what appeared to be far too much weight in a very long box. "Set up?" The dark man nodded. "Okay. Thanks for this, by the way. It saves Christophe and me so much work."
"No problem."
"So I was thinking..."
Otabek stopped, set down the box, then turned his full attention to Phichit. "I want to set up a group chat with you in it." He could feel the vibes get heavy. Otabek didn't partake in SMS like most people his age. Phichit knew Yuri practically dragged his ‘bestie’ into the modern communication era after disparaging his bullet-proof Nokia and forcing him to upgrade. Otabek’s stare was causing Phichit to falter. "It's so everyone can drop you their tracks and suggestions."
The air cleared. "How many people will be in attendance?"
"Hundred or so? Victor and Yuri are very popular. With the plus ones, and all..."
"How long is the reception?"
Phichit looked like he had been caught with a magnet in his cheeks. "Uhm. Until everyone goes home or passes out?" Otabek stared. Phichit stared back, eyebrows climbing into his hairline.
"How long is the 'dance floor' portion of the reception?"
"Three, maybe four hours?"
"And will you need lyric music to be played during dinner?"
"No, I think that's better for conversations."
"Instrumental undertones to set the mood. Fade in to low-key to pull people from the tables so they can be changed into the dance floor?"
"Brillant!" Phichit beamed. He'd not thought of that. They could use musical cues to keep things flowing! Having a DJ was going to save him so much time.
"With the addition of a push for people to head towards their homes, it's looking like a six hour list. Three of actual dancing. One for focus, including the official opening of the couples dance, and one on either end to build and fade."
Phichit had no idea, but it sounded good. "Sure."
"With a hundred guests, and an average run time of three twenty, you're looking at a hundred and twelve songs at best. Seventy five of those will be dance floor songs. Twenty builds, same amount of drop. Leaving room for wind up, cool down, and the couples dance. How do you want to handle whose songs get priority?"
Phichit stared. Say what now? Otabek returned the gaze, steady and intent, waiting for him to answer. "I um... first come first serve?" Otabek nodded. "No wait! Wait. How about I give everyone up to four songs to choose from and you limit them?"
"Dubious."
"I... what?"
"Dubious. It's shady. Let everyone have four songs. Give Victor and Yuuri each the opportunity to pick one of the four. That will be two songs. I will mix them into the flow so they both have their choices and no one feels slighted."
Phichit blinked. Genius. Genius! "Oh, yeah! I'll do that!"
"Phichit," Otabek said, calling the man back before his twitching text fingers went faster than his plans,"don't put me in the group chat. Put Victor and Yuuri in. Create another chat where they send Yuri their selections. I do not want to be bombarded by last minute changes. This is going to be hard enough as it is, trying to fit everything into the timeline."
"Right. You, me, Christophe, Victor and Yuuri. Planners, grooms, and the DJ."
"Not me, Yuri. I won't be able to keep up with the requests, fall out, and the mixing. He can do request rejection control."
"And… Yurio?” Otabek nodded. “Ah, both! Got it." Phichit raced back to Christophe. "Okay, so we have a plan!" Outlining what was discussed with Christophe, the Swiss man nodded with a considering expression.
"Do you think he can manage an after party mix too? Something for those of us who go all night?"
"I didn't ask him."
Christophe saw Yuri walking by and smiled. "I'll see if I can get it done." Phichit left him to it.

Aaaand Snarly (my mother) has gotten to the Rostelecom Cup! This is the one I’m most excited for, just cause there’s so many new characters.
TIS THE SEASON FOR YURI PARALLELS
She laughs when Yuri calls himself the Ice Tiger
She was very worried by the Grandpa’s back giving out at the fly tackle, and distressed when Nikolai worried about if the piroshki were good.
“Say they’re delicious you little bitch!”
Cringed when I told her “Sala” is a mistranslation of Sara.
She GASPED when Seung-Gil Lee was being rude to Sara.
She snorted at JJ’s little finger guns. And then I told her it was his initials.
She’s worried for Phichit, since he might not make it to the final. And it’s not like he has plot armor to guarantee it — he’s a minor character in the end.
Laughing at the Nishigori triplets antics.
“Is it racist for a South Korean man to skate to some Mexican bullfighting kind of song?” (Right off the bat when Seung-Gil starts skating)
Snarly found the discussion of sexual performance inflation funny. I think. She snorted, at least.
She was so worried when Seung-Gil fell! I get the feeling she hates seeing any of the skaters fail.
Re: Emil — “Why does he have the beard? It’s pubic hair.”
She loved Viktor being cold to JJ.
During Michele’s skate:
“Am I getting weird incest-y vibes with these super close ups?” (About the Crispinos. She’s totally right.)
“VILE.”
“Oh god he’s hateful.”
She did like the note about Michele doing his sister’s signature combination jump. She also gagged when he said they would ‘be together forever.’
She liked Sara talking about how Mickey needed to be able to fight on his own.
She was so sad when Yurio realized his Grandpa wasn’t coming.
She got sad when she saw Makkachin by himself staring at the buns. I don’t know how she’ll cope cause it gets WORSE.
Reiterating the point about the Nishigori triplets being Nara characters.
She loved Yuuri’s little dramatic flirting moment with Viktor.
“Well if he doesn’t if he doesn’t advance to the Grand Prix, the shows over.” (When Yuuri thinks about how he needs fourth place at minimum)
She loves Lilia’s “supervillain lady look.”
She’s SO SAD about Yurio not having his Grandpa there. Constant wailing or whimpering on his behalf.
“What are we gaping at?” (When Yurio comes out in his costume)
“Oh gross” (When Viktor does the skate kiss)
“It’s good that we’re invested in more than one character.” “So you like Yurio??” “I didn’t say I like him, I’m just invested.”
Though when he fell on the axel she said “oh, baby.”
She thinks the animation is better in closeup.
“Aw, kitties!”
When JJ make the ‘ladies first’ crack to Yurio she called JJ a “homophobic fuck.” Here, here!!
She laughed at Yurio’s little pouty stance.
And at all JJ’s inane drama about his “aesthetic.”
Mocking the lyrics to Theme of King JJ. It grew on me, but it really is ridiculous the first time you hear it.
“I keep hoping he’ll skate into a wall.”
Gagged when he kissed the ice. “I hope it’s like licking a pole and his tongue gets stuck there.”
“OH NO” when we find out about Makka.
“Why would they tell him? What can he do about it now?” (I reminded her about Vicchan once it ended. She was even more distressed.)
She laughed at their collective shock and horror at the idea of Yakov coaching Yuuri.
And for episode nine:
She thought it was cute when Viktor said to hug Yakov if he needed help.
She already thought the Grandpa was sweet before she saw the Katsudon pirosky. She thought it was so cute!
“Maybe not now???” (about Sara’s intervention with Michele)
“Her timing is not great”
Michele: *Yuuri looks like a closet pervert* Mom: “He’s one to talk”
She HATES the sibling incest. She said “I might have to hide in the other room.”
She likes Mila’s hair
Eyerolls at the sibling incest.
“They both have purple eyes. Anime logic.”
Michele: *this is goodbye, Sara* My Mom: “She’s your sister. You will see her again.”
“Whats with the sparkly gloves?”
“Ew, girl!” (At the start of Sara’s conversation with Mickey)
She really likes the smash cuts from skaters being super serious to the food plates. She thinks it’s funny
She likes Yurio’s hairdo and his skate decorations.
“Nice! …I can’t believe I’m commenting on this like it’s an actual skater.”
“Oh, no!!” (when Yurio says he’s tired)
She thinks the Katsudon nickname is very funny.
I started learning a little Japanese since my first watch of the show, so now I can appreciate just how dickish it was for JJ to call Yurio “Yuri-chan.” But that’s for another time.
“Put in your earplugs, dude” (to Yuuri)
She’s so worried about Yuuri throughout the performance. She said she agreed with him sending Viktor away, since he’d be so guilty if he didn’t, but clearly it had consequences.
“Is he doing good?”
Laughing at Yakov’s glare. A lot of faces made at Yakov’s scary lecture though.
She thought the hug was cute though!
She guessed JJ’s “king” line before it happened.
“It’s kind of funny having the bad guy be Canadian. No one makes Canadians the bad guys.”
Me: He’s the token straight along with Georgi. (My mom: “who?”) Me: the crying one with the eyeliner.
“Please fall. Please fall. Please fall.”
Laughing like crazy at Yuuri’s hugging rampage, but also some cooing.
“It’s funny seeing Yuuri wearing a mask, since this was made pre-pandemic.”
She laughs at Yurio’s little raging, but thought him comforting Yuuri was adorable. And the Katsudon pirosky!
She was relieved that Makkachin lived.
“In real life that dog would be jumping on them.”
She got worried when Yuuri asked Viktor to coach him until he retired, saying “but what if he wants to skate again?” OH HONEY. Can’t decide if I should remind her Yuuri wanted this to be his last season…
“THERE WE GO!!” when Makka leans in on the hug.
Overall really positive reactions to this one! Snarly loved the skating, and the new characters and relationship development are so strong.
She had pretty much the exact same reactions to the Crispinos and Yurio’s development and to JJ that I did when I first watched the series, so I figure she’ll enjoy seeing how the latter develop further in Barcelona.
I’m so excited for her to watch the next episode—since the power imbalance about Viktor being Yuuri’s coach is the main thing she dislikes about their relationship, I’m hoping the episode ten reveal will change her mind.

for the character thing : ash from banana fish, yuri from yoi, and right back at ya with cas / endverse cas (just pick whomever if u dont feel like doing all of them, and good luck with ur day <3<3<3)
thank you ilu <33
this is long and i can't put readmore on mobile so use the J key to skip!
ash
How I feel about this character: listen there's a reason he was voted 'best character' twice 4 decades apart and everything i wanna say about him has been said better in this post
All the people I ship romantically with this character: eiji (self-explanatory), shorter because i like their vibes and dynamic (i've been converted by very talented writers and artists)
My non-romantic OTP for this character: i would honestly love to read a very detailed fic where ash and yut lung slowly become friends, i am so curious to see what that relationship would look like; also cain because 1) i want more of him 2) i feel they share a wavelength that no other characters share and i can't really explain it better than that
My unpopular opinion about this character: i can't think of any right now tbh
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: other than the obvious thing(s), i really wish he could've gotten some closure with his mom somehow.. he barely knew her but her absence had such a big impact on him, i'd have loved to see that explored more
yuuri
How I feel about this character: my main bitch, changed my life, love him in all his contradictive glory <3
All the people I ship romantically with this character: winner winnerson
My non-romantic OTP for this character: phichit :D and i really like the relationship he's building with yurio, can't wait to see how it turns out when he finishes going thru puberty and calms the fuck down a bit
My unpopular opinion about this character: i hc him as gay, not because i am secretly biphobic lmao (@ twt), but because so many of the things he says and does remind me of my own experiences
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: i wanted him to win gold :(
cas
How I feel about this character: the only reason i kept up with es pee en despite not watching it in years
All the people I ship romantically with this character: the shorter brother, meg because 1) as you already said - they're hot 2) i do think he had a crush on her and it was sweet 3) the whole demon angel dynamic is fun :D
My non-romantic OTP for this character: tbh i just wanted to see him talk to animals when he wasn't in episodes
My unpopular opinion about this character: see 2 rows above
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: like, so many things, but rn i mostly wish he he'd gotten a better reaction than
':[ don't do this' to his deathbed love confession

Fanfiction Project List Pt. 3
(Update 10/19/20)
Anime Edition (Because I’ve Been Revived)
Yuri on Ice, Haikyuu, and Prince of Stride. I’m doing what I want.
There’s a request in my Inbox that’s been in there for two years and I’m sorry, but I also want to do it first. Complete! (Link)
There’s two chapters of an angsty whump!Hinata fic that I impulsively started two years ago. Hinata and Kageyama don’t immediately get along as fast as they do in Canon and it causes issues. Might end up a TsukiHina Fic
Some fics that I thought I started, that I might have accidentally deleted off my drive that include two Oikage fics:
Kageyama goes to Aoba Johsai, but doesn’t join the volleyball team because a bunch of other students convinced him to give up volleyball and opts to focus on his studies. Those students convinced him Oikawa hated him, expect he’s really just an idiot with a crush who is bad at showing it. Oikawa tries to convince him to come back. Hinata is at Aoba Johsai.
Kitagawa Daiichi Fic, some upperclassman assault Kageyama after class purposely hurting his hands in order to prevent him from playing volleyball. He wants to quit being a setter/volleyball. Oikawa is completely confused and protective trying to convince him otherwise. Hinata transfers to their school.
Some Yuri on Ice x Haikyuu Crossovers, based on the headcanon that if Yuuri and Victor had a Biological child from Haikyuu it would be Kageyama:
First version, is an A/B/O fic where Victor and Yuuri meet pretty young and accidentally mate, then are kept apart by the ISU probably. Yuuri ends up being forced to give up their child for adoption. Eventually Victor and Yuuri reunite and start a lawsuit to search for their child. Kageyama is their child and was adopted by a couple in an arranged marriage. They get a bitter divorce when he’s in middle school and they tell him he’s adopted, it leads to his King Phase. He fills out forms requesting his adoption papers before high school starts and is reunited with Victor and Yuuri. Probably an Oikage fic.
Second Version, is an gen mpreg fic (IDK it doesn’t vibe as ABO in that version), maybe a small one-shots. Yurio is his older, adopted brother. Yurio would definitely pick some fights with Oikawa. Kageyama is Tobio’s fake name to not be harassed by the media. He also knows Japanese, English, and Russian fluently but has terrible grades because he gets test anxiety from Yuuri but performs fine in Volleyball because he has two Olympic parents and he has Victor’s confidence in that but also zero social skills despite their best efforts.
Ask me more about them, I want to talk about them.
I swear I had a list that I think also accidentally got deleted and it makes me want to cry but the only things I can remember from it are this:
(Update! Started & Link)Victor and Yuuri dated pre-canon thanks to Christophe, but break up due to Yuuri’s anxiety after nationals. Yuuri has issues with an eating disorder and announces his retirement after returning home. Yurio is like their child and gets mad at Victor thinking he’s the reason they broke up and goes to Japan to convince Yuuri not to quit. Yuuri of course tells Yakov. Victor comes to Japan to stop him from retiring because he think that’s crazy when he planned to retire. Also the Video still happens and Vicchan is alive and confused by Makkachin because they never actually met.
A/B/O fic idea that Phichit and Yuuri agreed to have a child together to please their parents but didn’t mate. Yuuri and Victor still fall in love regardless but just with some obstacles
Another mpreg fic, where Yuuri opts to have a child on his own but gets caught up in a scandal, that involved the fertility clinic he used having non-consenting donors requested by high paying clients and unexpected mix up.
Some vague ideas that basically allude to Yuuri having dated other Skaters
A Yuuri Idol AU, where if JPOP was more like KPOP and over all less toxic than it is in real life. Yuuri is basically famous for both skating and being in an all male idol group, but somehow his fans have no idea that those two Katsuki Yuuri are one in the same.
Two Haikyuu x Prince of Stride crossovers with Hinata
First one is that Hinata is really fast because he used to do Volleyball and Stride with his older brother but then their parents divorced and split custody. Heath Hasekura is his older brother because Fujiwara and Yagami are the same age as him, and Kohinta is kind of obvious why not, but Heath’s one sister has red hair so it works. Cue reconciling family.
Second one, is that Hinata got pushed into competing with his middle school’s stride team and that all his former teammates go to Saisei academy and are apart of Galaxy Standard. Yukigaoka didn’t have a volleyball team because Hinata went to an Idol school where it lost interest because the students thought it was a violent/dangerous sport. He figures he’s completely done with stride until Stride association members try to contact him about the non-school organized stride event that automatically enters last year’s winners back into the yearly competition.
A fic where Iwaizumi and Hinata are step brothers.
I’m sure I had more Ideas but they’re apparently lost to time.
EDIT 6/17/20:  I remembered some more!
Kageyama fic where Aoba Johsai inadvertently finds out that Kageyama’s parent’s got divorced during middle school by visiting kitagawa daiichi and meeting his younger half brother. Kageyama has both half and step siblings because his parents had long term affairs before their divorce. He goes back and forth between two households and his bio parents ignore him and he’s very quiet and distant around his siblings.
Hinata fic where he did have a volleyball team in middle school but they treated him like shit. They didn’t believe he could be a spiker and forced him to be a Libero. He gets injured in his second year of middle school and has to go through a ton of physical therapy, which is why later he is ‘bad’ at volleyball. But really he’s recovering and dealing with the trauma. Meet-up with old shitty team. (Note: I edited this and then went to go read fics and someone uploaded a similar fic like two days ago, I’ll still write this but man I’ve wanted it for two years and NOW someone is on the same wavelength, lol.)
Fic inspired by the fact that my school district’s policy let middle schoolers play high school level if they were considered to be varsity level: Hinata finds out about a policy that will allow him to join another school’s volleyball team, as long as their school doesn’t have a formal team and it’s approved by both schools. Essentially, Hinata trains with and ultimately officially joins Karasuno a couple years ahead. Timeline is a the year after the Small Giant graduates but a year before Daichi, Suga, and Asahi attend. Old Ukai teaches the first year then retires. People keep getting freaked out, thinking that Hinata might be older than them while looking really young but he’s not.

I am finally (finally!!) finishing Yuri on Ice. I started watching it when it first came out, then got impatient of waiting week by week for the next episode, so I figured I would binge watch it when it finished airing. Long story short, got busy and never finished it (I did listen to the soundtrack a bunch though).
So, I figured I would finally finish this show! I’ve been a super casual fan of figure skating since the 2014 Sochi Olympics and I knew a skating anime was going to come eventually, after Hanyu won the gold, so I was really stoked to watch YOI too, haha. Life just happened and I forgot about it.
(Not going to lie, I hate watching sports, except for equestrian events and archery occasionally, but I sat down for a brief moment and that so happened to be when Yuzuru Hanyu was skating his SP. It was the most serendipitous moment of my life haha.)
(But I really do mean “super casual fan”. I never dedicated the time to learn all of the terminology and don’t expect me to name any of the jumps. This will also be a super casual live blog.)
Episodes 1-2
Episode 1
When the animation for this anime is good, it really is good. I feel like skating is a bit tricky. If it’s not done right, it’ll probably look rather choppy since so much of the sport is flowing lines and the amount of athleticism it takes to make good performances look almost effortless.
I really like the opening sequence for this reason. The transition from their child-selves to their adult-selves and the reflection of one person’s career. I feel like I have no comments regarding the opening song. It’s got a catchy beat, the animation is gorgeous, and it’s one of the more memorable anime opening songs I’ve heard. It just fits the theme of the show so well, too.
Tumblr media
The Makkachin phone cover is so cute. The amount of detail that went into this show really astounded me. The lanyard clasps and the words on his ID? The website?
As I’ve gotten older, I’ve come to really hate chibi-cut-ins and those little interlude infodumps/intros that are common in anime (I think they work best in a manga medium, personally...), but that’s a personal thing.
First time I watched this, my reaction to Russian Yuri was “lol what’s your problem?? edgy little brat”. Still is haha. “I greatly object to sharing a name with a LOSER” is the vibe he gives off. He’s also lucky Yuri is a nice guy and didn’t just punch him for getting so up in his face and screaming at him.
Tumblr media
Well, now that was just cruel. He’s having one of those “can it GET any worse” days, to which the universe answers “yes, yes it can”. I’m sure we’ve all had those days where nothing goes right and you just want to curl up and die (aka sleep) until it’s all over.
If there is one thing this show really did well as early as the first 3-4 episodes, it’s depicting Yuri’s mental state. His crushing disappointment in himself, everyone around him trying to cheer him up or talk about what comes next while he’s still just living in the moment, trying to get through the rest of this day.
Ha, my name is pretty common where I grew up, especially at the time I was going to school, and I relate so hard to turning because you hear your name only to realize no one was actually talking to you. Even worse for Yuri because it’s Viktor talking! His idol! Also, I felt it when he froze and walked away after Viktor asked if he wanted a photo with him.
Not going to screenshot everything, not going to screenshot everything...
Yeah, even in my hometown I never knew anyone who skated - ice or roller skating, aside from birthday parties. I personally have two left feet and I’m lucky I managed to stand on the ice without falling, but I never did figure out how to move. My dad had to pull me around (I was 10 or so?). But also, that scene adds some perspective to how Yuri is seen by others, which is important given we live in his head as the watchers of his story. It’s clear that his thoughts of himself don’t necessarily reflect what the public or his friends/family think of him.
A large part of the charm of this series, for me, was that Yuri feels like such a real person - him and his story, his doubts and his hopes (even his weight gain haha), are really relatable even if ice skating is so far removed from myself.
Tumblr media
I’m only screenshot-ing dogs now.
Tiny Yuri is so cute though, with his little doggo!
Haha! And his little blush watching Viktor on tv.
Cuteness overload haha Yuko is so cute?? I love how everyone in his life is supportive in their own way.
Tumblr media
Doggos only! Utterly adorable.
Ah, as usual, the live commentary over the skating that I half like because I have no clue what’s going on, but the other half of me just wants to listen and watch in peace lol
No comment on the double performance aside from: ALL THE BUDGET. But honestly if you’re not going to go ham on the performances (especially the best ones) in an anime about ice skating, why even bother lol.
Yuko had triplets. Triplets. I cannot even- (haha I love kids, I work with them for my job occasionally but having THREE of my own to go home would sound like a nightmare).
Tumblr media
Doggo! But actually I just really like his apartment. I really like that they gave Viktor a standard poodle Yuri a miniature poodle because I feel like everyone including myself forgets the big floofs exist and in fact are the “standard” size, not the tiny guys.
HERE COMES THAT SCENE. The one that made the internet explode. I kind of still remember the night it aired, lol. I also can’t believe they got the green-light for that, haha.
I also love the social media posts in the ending. Social media in anime is always fun, it’s such a huge part of our lives nowadays. The little glimpses into the lives of the other skaters is not only fun, but makes them feel a little more alive, especially because they won’t be the center of the story.
Episode 2
I promise this one isn’t going to be as long.
This “farewell” gives me live action drama vibes. It’s hilarious.
Tumblr media
Under the table! I can’t with the adorableness. Also, now I’m hungry.
Tumblr media
I-Is it ok for him to be scratching the tatami like that.
It took me forever to figure out that the random English is likely because they’re supposed to be speaking in English to each other lol. It just makes sense.
At least one of the kids learned their lesson and asked before uploading haha.
Viktor not so subtly trying to find out if he likes or is dating anyone is hilarious.
And Russian Yuri has a cat! I forgot about that. He does give off alley cat vibes.
Yuri, you literally just had an “ah-ha!” moment, but then couldn’t resist posting a pic of your new buy on social media lol...
I feel like people either like him or hate him (Russian Yuri), but to me he’s just such a teenage boy. They can be assholes sometimes, you know?? And hopefully they grow out of it haha.
I love Yuri’s smirk haha. Yup, don’t engage. He’s an angry 15 year old, you’re a grown ass adult. It’s really hard to forget age differences in anime but what self-respecting adult is actually going to have it out with a teenager being unreasonable?
I also totally forgot they nicknamed Russian Yuri, Yurio in the actual show lol.
OUCH that self-doubt.
Tumblr media
The Makkachin tissue box...
Anyways, the first unofficial competition of the show starts next episode! I did see that one when it came out, but I think I stopped after episode 3...

Sailor Chibi Moon: Ayano Gunji
She said there was a Sailor Venus that she really liked but she couldn’t remember which one.
Okay, so here’s what she remembers from the musicals she’s seen. I can’t guarantee that this is going to make 100% sense because we were being really silly when I was asking for her thoughts. I probably should’ve asked for her thoughts as we were watching them because she couldn’t remember a lot from some of them, but I’ll do that moving forward :)
Yume Senshi – Ai – Eien ni… (Kaiteiban) – Saturn Fukkatsu Hen: “That Pegasus made me feel scared, I couldn’t tell if it was flying away from or towards me. There should’ve been more Hawkseye” (because Hawkseye is played by Hikari Ono)
Sailor Stars/Sailor Stars Kaiteiban/Eien Densetsu:
“These 3 Lights are my favorites because they are the nicest and they vibe with the other guardians” (in comparison to the 3 Lights in Le Mouvement Final and in the anime)
Kaguya Shima Densetsu Kaiteiban: “The pirates doing their walk is my last few brain cells” (about Kern, Serpen, and Kraken doing that weird walk where they are kind of crawling?? I don’t know how to describe it??)
Dracul musicals:
“Why doesn’t Michiru just bite Haruka and then they can be vampires together?”
“I couldn’t wait until the second one because you told me Vampir was in it, but everyone was mean to her and she just wanted her dad to be there for her, and when she changed her outfit to look like the cool kids he didn’t like it. Also Le Fay wanted to wear matching mother-daughter outfits”
When Vampir says “Damn it!” in “All of You Shall Die” my sister said “Did she forget her line?!” (she didn’t realize that it was part of the song).
Un Nouveau Voyage:
“You didn’t prepare me, I wasn’t ready for the Haruka!! You told me she was an idol, but I didn’t realize she was that kind of performer. I’m not mad, I’m just surprised, I was just so confused” (about Haruka’s idol performance at the beginning of the musical).
“Professor Tomoe doesn’t win father of the year award”
“This Michiru is baby, she looks really young”
Petite Étrangère:
“Sapphir was like ‘Demande, I think you’re being tricked’, and Demande was like ‘Don’t ask questions, just leave it to me’. And that didn’t work out well”.
“Maybe this is more manga-based and I haven’t read the manga, but how upset Usagi was over Chibiusa felt really exaggerated. It seemed like she tolerated her more in the anime and the other musicals. It felt really forced. I like Satomi better in Un Nouveau Voyage”
Le Mouvement Final:
“The 3 Lights were SO RUDE to Setsuna. THE DISRESPECT”
She said that Yaten (Saki Matsuda) reminded her of Yurio from Yuri on Ice. “Yaten is Yurio. If there were a Yuri on Ice musical, you’ve got a Yurio”.
“This Galaxia is terrifying”
10th Anniversary Festival – Ai no Sanctuary :
“Oh my god, they had matching jackets!! Happiest Happy Family!!” (We refer to the outers family as the Happy Family because they’re just so cute and we love them!!)
“I think Marina would’ve been a good Chibiusa. Or if they need an Usagi for like a flashback scene where Usagi was younger”
Her favorite songs are:
“Over the Moon”
“Dream Yume wa Ookiku”
“Onna Kaizoku no Sakusen”
“All of You Shall Die”
“Galaxia Gorgeous”
“Honoo no Messenger”
“Chasin’ After You”
“See Me, Boku-tachi no Jidai”
“Traditional the Grace”

Today's translation #99
Pash! 2016/11 (published 2016/10/08)
Kubo Mitsurou's comments
Yuuri Katsuki
His appearance is quite plain and he doesn't stand out much. He usually wears glasses, but he takes them off when he skates. After the promotional video was released, viewers were naming a lot of figure skaters - "He's similar to skater XX" or "Looks a bit like skater OO", and so I thought that he's a character, in which you can see every Japanese male figure skaters. You can see in him whoever you want, but actually it wasn't our intention. I'm sure when you see him in action, Yuuri Katsuki will become simply "Yuuri Katsuki" and no-one else. I'm really excited, because I just can't wait for you all to get to like Yuuri.
Victor Nikiforov
My plan was to draw the most handsome character I have ever drawn in my life as a mangaka, and with all my strength I pursued an image of a cool male foreigner. When we were gathering information for production of Yuri!!! abroad, together with the director we were discussing things like: "Victor surely lives by this river, doesn't he!" or "Victor definitely walks along this bridge!"… the image of him that we had was expanding more and more. We were even taking pictures, getting very emotional, quite seriously thinking that "Victor Nikiforov grew up in this city!" (laugh).
Yuri Plisetsky
When I saw Yulia Lipnitskaya (Russian female figure skater) in Barcelona in her private clothes, I thought: "It would be so cool if there was a male figure skater with this kind of vibe…", and on the plane back home, I drew the first version of Yurio's character design. Then I started to think about the contrast between him and the protagonist and the idea of "two Yuris" was born. I knew that even if he leaves my hands, for sure he will still be a very charming character, and indeed in every anime frame he's just beautiful! There's just something special about him! It's a charm that Yuuri doesn't possess, so I think we have achieved a good contrast between them!
[Notes: Super retro translation ✨ I think it's the earliest (or one of the earliest) comments about the main trio by Mitsurou! The first episode aired on 2016/10/06, so it was published just after that~]

[THE CHILDISH DARKNESS Recaps, Chapters 1-2]
Note 1: As this book is a direct sequel, it requires good knowledge of the events of Smoke, Soil or Sacrifices (recapped here).
Note 2: Please be aware that the book revolves around a dysfuntional family, bad relationships, heavy depression and self-harm, and that the narrator might not be a very morally upstanding man.
Note 3: Do not believe his lies.
Note 4: Or do. It’s your call.
Note 5: Different people want to believe in different stories, after all.
[tw: gore, body horror, csa, suicide, sorta homophobic undertones?]
---
ONE
[Our narrator is Natsukawa Saburou, a writer of trashy mystery novels and one of the older brothers of Shirou, the narrator of Smoke, Soil or Sacrifices.]
Saburou recalls his time in middle school when he was concerned about possibly being gay and in denial, since he liked to suck girls’ fingers and that’s ALMOST like blowing a guy, RIGHT? But his actually gay friend Okamoto Yasuhiro, known as Okachi, said that Saburou didn’t seem to be actually gay. On the other hand, their mutual friend Kaede seemed to him to have some lesbian vibes. (The three often hanged out together.) Okachi also claimed that while there is a line between straight and gay, it’s faint and sometimes cannot be seen clearly.
--
When they were In high school, Kaede’s father died in a work-related accident, and she reacted to it by eating a tremendous amount of food and falling into a few days worth of sleep. While she was sleeping her left arm started to swell unnaturally. As it turned out, a womb-like structure had developed there, along with a fast growing fetus, which was cut out in surgery and then cut out again when the same unbelievable event repeated. Kaede’s family claimed that maybe it was the dead father trying to come back to help Kaede, as she had a stalker called Araki Kazuo.
Whether the dad thing was true or not, Saburou decided to solve the problem by beating up Araki. The two engaged in a lot of fights escalating to using weapons. After learning about the problem, Saburou’s brother Shirou said that maybe their older brother Jirou was right: just beating up a guy wasn’t enough, you had to use much more drastic measures. Saburou followed this advice as far as cutting Araki’s two fingers off, internally horrified at the act and how much the threats coming out of his own mouth sounded like something Jirou would say. Upon returning home he popped the fingers in the fridge in case one of Araki’s buddies asked to get them back (nobody did) and sat down to play the piano to calm himself down.
At that time Saburou loved to play the piano, but only a single piece: Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3. No other music resonated with him so much, and as the result he was a rather poor pianist. One day when he heard the musically gifted Jirou play Beethoven, he was struck by the artistry and emotion heard in the piece. [By struck I mean he even popped a boner and had to go deal with it, because this is Maijo Otaro’s book.] The difference in skill between them was obvious and depressing. Then Saburou noticed that Jirou in all his genius seemed to get quickly bored with each piece and just randomly choose what to play. Maybe Jirou had genius, but Saburou had just enough skill to play the one piece he loved. Maybe their approaches were both okay. It was hard to judge.
While playing, Saburou thought about how Araki had yelled that his stalking was the proof of his love for Kaede. Surely there was a ‘love’ there, much like both sides of an abusive relationship may be convinced of their ‘love’. Maybe Kaede’s dead father also tried to return out of ‘love’, oblivious to the fact that each time he only hurt his daughter more and more.
[And then Saburou tried to lick those cut off fingers in the fridge and was like ‘well, I’m disgusted, and since these belonged to a guy that clearly means I’m not gay!” ...Whatever you say, narrator.]
 TWO
What is a story?, the narrator is wondering. Why does it exist? Why don’t we employ our power of imagination solely to think of new ways to find shelter or food, but we need stories? Why do we need to give birth to fiction, something that doesn’t exist in this world? Why do we need the lies called a story?
The narrator believes that it’s because you can’t tell the truth using anything other than lies. Every writer knows that using a lie will make something seem more real than just faithfully recreating reality; will make deep emotions deeper. A story is a truth you want to tell, but told in lying words. Something that can ellicit joy greater than just plain laughter, or suffering greater than just normal pain. It’s not really something you explain as much as something you feel.
Maybe it’s not that the writer chooses a story, as much as the story has a chance meeting with the writer and can be transferred to others through him. Maybe that’s why no one can write just any story or pass down just any truth. The story is the one who conveys the truth by using the writer as a tool.
Certainly when Saburou was writing two novels in high school, The White Forest (白い森) and The Hymn (賛歌), he did want to convey truths: about commitment and detachment, and how one could at once be with others but still stay separated from them. When he came to write cheap mystery novels later, he ceased to be the tool of the story. Focusing on monetary gain, he wasn’t able to write something more real than reality.
Shirou noticed that and kept criticizing how stupid Saburou’s new novels were, how he’d sold himself out and that he’d become a factory producing the same thing in a different package over and over again, and even snapped one of Saburou’s books in half once. Saburou understood the point: he should be writing more important things and give his life some value. There was value to someone like Shirou, an ER surgeon saving lives every day, but Saburou didn’t really do nothing special.
After the recent case and Nozaki’s attack [see: Smoke, Soil or Sacrifices], 29-year-old Saburou started to feel like now that he had witnessed a true case, he wouldn’t be able to lie convincingly in his novels, and therefore would be unable to convey the truth. He gave up on the idea of turning the Nozaki case into a book, even if it’d bring a lot of money. Or maybe that was just his attempt to escape the reality of what happened.
Saburou called his editors and announced he’s not going to write anything anymore. He had stable income from a cram school he had once established (with an apt acronym of NAPS), and since nobody there really liked him coming around and trying to help, he could fill his time with whatever else he wanted.
At first he focused on sleeping with women. Many women, who tended to be the girlfriends and wives of his friends. So many women that in an attempt to take each one to a different hotel, he sort of ran out of all good hotels in Fukui, and only then realized how ridiculous this whole way of living was and maybe he should focus on something else.
For some time he was playing the piano in a club called Super Dash Penguins [clearly the greatest club name ever] near the Fukui station. He was doing pretty good when imitating famous jazz pianists, and maybe that was precisely what he was best at: not doing anything original of his own, just putting a little twist on something created by others.
--
Around that time, in March, Saburou accidentally witnessed a teenage girl burying a mannequin in the middle of a field. Quite suspicious activity, seeing as the case of Nozaki burying multiple women was still fresh in everyone’s mind. So when the girl then rode her bike past his car, he decided to stealthily follow her [while commenting about how pretty she is in a highly creepy way. Er, narrator? Please stop?]. She was circling between what seemed to be her house and various places in Nishi Akatsuki, each time taking a mannequin from the shed, riding to some remote place and burying it. Saburou decided to investigate the shed while she was out, but during his first attempt he was almost caught by a thin bespectacled man wielding a hoe – probably her father – so he had to return to the car and wait for a more opportune time.
At the more opportune time, Saburou managed to sneak inside the shed and found a map of Nishi Akatsuki with fourteen red pins. Six of them marked the locations of Nozaki’s attacks, and eight pointed to the places where the girl had buried the mannequins.
Unable to do a lot more, Saburou returned home. His mother was still in a coma, his father Maruo and oldest brother Ichirou were still hospitalized, and Shirou spent a lot of time at his girlfriend Atena’s place, so Saburou was usually completely alone in the Natsukawa house. On that day, though, Shirou was home and slammed a news article on the table in front of him. Together with a bag containing a pair of real human legs.
The article provided the names of people who had gone missing since February, all having the surnames Aoki or Aikawa, which fit the pattern that Nozaki used to choose victims. What’s more, the disembodied legs that probably belonged to a missing person were found buried in a location that would lie on top of Jawakutora’s spiral on the map of Nishi Akatsuki.
Saburou remembered the girl burying mannequins. While the points on her map seemed rather randomly chosen, she might have something to do with the copycat. Saburou was a little afraid that Shirou’s impulsiveness would result in him trying to punch the truth out of the girl, but it’s not like all Natsukawas didn’t have this sort of temper.
They arrived at the girl’s house. Shirou invited himself in and by being loud, flashy and acting like he had the full right to be here, got the girl’s father (who’s not the thin guy Saburou saw earlier) to show them her room. The father stated that the girl – Fuse Yurio – hadn’t shown any changes in behavior recently, but to be honest, she had always been a strange child in the first place.
Shirou in his chaotic investigation of Yurio’s room carelessly threw a lot of books on the ground: a lot of weird mystery novels in the vein of Nisio Isin and Seiryoin Ryusui, as well as a plethora of paranormal trash, mostly about UFO. (“Oh, look, now these are some really stupid books,” Shirou said throwing Saburou’s entire Runbaba series to the ground. Fair enough.)  Finally Shirou found a suspicious bundle of volumes held together with a rubber band saying DON’T TOUCH ME, using hundreds of tiny kanji for ‘death’ to make the letters. How very teenage. The bundle contained several tomes with novel-like titles, one of them called Runbaba Notebook and featuring a poor picture of very effeminately looking Runbaba.
Shirou noticed aloud that the first character of each title put together created a message: Dad comes into the room at night. The possible implication made Saburou so outraged he wanted to jump at Yurio’s father with fists before they even tried to make sure there’s really abuse going on, but Shirou managed to stop him. The father claimed that he had no idea what the message was about. Yurio was apparently weird enough to do a creepy thing like that randomly. Shirou decided he’d want to hear the explanation from the source, but it seemed Yurio didn’t have a cellphone he could call.
Further investigation revealed a file titled ‘suicide note’ on Yurio’s PC, containing a description of her being abused sexually by her father, and: “I just want to know that at least my life is my own. My body will soon disappear from this Earth.”
Saburou really did punch the father this time and Shirou had to hold him back to prevent carnage (“Sorry Mr. Fuse, this guy here loves kids and snaps when he hears about child abuse”). While Shirou acknowledged the abuse might really be happening, he also couldn’t ignore the possibility that this could be just a kind of a cry for attention on Yurio’s part, or that it may be a sort of self-harm done in one own’s imagination.
Shirou then found a set of school books and a middle school uniform, all unused, and only then did Saburou realize that the girl had been out in the fields during school hours. According to the father, Yurio had been homeschooled even since she’d refused to attend classes, probably because her unusual personality had made her a target for bullies. Shirou asked for a way of contacting Yurio’s peers that still were friends with her.
While the father left the room to put together a phone number list, Shirou scolded Saburou for punching people without thinking. “Seems you haven’t used your head properly in years! Is it going to take another dead Runbaba and closing yourself in that damn warehouse for you to actually think?!” Saburou didn’t have an answer to that. Shirou asserted that right now the most pressing issue wasn’t figuring out all the family’s issues, but finding Yurio, who might have really been planning suicide.
And so Saburou had to focus on thinking. He couldn’t afford another Runbaba, couldn’t just close himself off from the world in some dark place. Finding this girl was all that mattered, this girl who smelled of citrus fruit and would surely grow up into a beautiful woman one day [um, narrator, your focus on those things in a thirteen-year-old girl is kinda creepy].
Shirou got a call from his friend Sanbonsugi, who had been watching the place that those disembodied legs had been found at. Sanbonsugi witnessed the murderer coming back to the crime scene. The man’s description exactly matched that of the man with glasses that Saburou had seen snooping around Yurio’s house earlier.
Shirou found a mostly destroyed notebook in an oil drum used to burn trash, which could mean Yurio got rid of the evidence for whatever plan she had in mind. The map in the shed had a new addition that Saburou hadn’t seen earlier, a sentence scrawled on it: YOU CAN’T FIND ME.
The two brothers got moving through the town. Shirou called each person from the list that the father had provided and learned that apparently Yurio had a boyfriend. [“Don’t look so down about it, you lolicon,” Shirou said towards Saburou. Thanks for recognizing the creepiness, dude.] The boyfriend was a sixteen-year-old Hashimoto Takashi. (“Seems you’re not the only lolicon around, huh?”) The brothers split, Saburou searching for the boyfriend and Yurio, while Shirou went on to catch the glasses-wearing murderer.
Saburou was unsuccessful in getting any information from Hashimoto’s parents. They didn’t seem to be interested in their son’s life in the slightest and had no idea who Fuse Yurio was.
Meanwhile, Shirou and his friend caught the murderer while he was checking on the buried body parts. The guy was Takano Yoshiki from the neighboring town Nanjou, and when Shirou arrived at his house, inside he found Yurio’s boyfriend Hashimoto Takashi, dead from suffocation, still tied to a chair with tape.
After beating the shit out of Takano, Shirou discovered yet another map of Nishi Akatsuki covered with pins, this one portraying what Takano had been attempting to do by burying the body parts: draw a giant monkey similar to that of the Nazca Lines. Jawakutora’s spiral would create the monkey’s tail.
Tumblr media
After Shirou called Saburou, and after they beat the hell out of Takano once again, they asked him about the reason for drawing the picture. Takano answered,
“For Great Jawakutora.”
This time it was Saburou who had to pull his brother away to prevent murder.
Saburou then found Hashimoto’s sports bag. Stuffed inside was an array of nine balls used in different sports as well as a globe. The soccer ball had a paper ring around it. It must have symbolized Saturn, the globe – the Earth, and the rest – the other planets and the Sun. Why would a high schooler lug those around? Why would the same high schooler be killed? Maybe he and Yurio planned to do something that interferred with Takano’s little project. That would explain why Takano had been hanging around her house with a hoe: to follow her and dig up the mannequins so they wouldn’t mess up his Nazca monkey design. But what image could be created using ten “celestial bodies” and eight mannequins... and six buried women?
Saburou couldn’t figure this out, but Shirou put two and two together as soon as he saw it, running to the nearby computer to search for it (using awful dial-up Internet, because this is early 2000s) and make sure.
Tumblr media
The Pioneer plaque was sent to space twice, on board of Pioneer 10 and Pioneer 11. Aside from a drawing of two humans and the Pioneer probe, it also featured a message for the aliens on how to find the probe’s origin. The pulsar map using 14 pulsars -- that starburst shape on the left side of the plaque -- could be used to calculate the position of the Sun, and the drawing of the Solar System below pointed to the third planet from the Sun.
Ten objects of the Solar System, fourteen pulsars. Ten balls, six buried women and eight mannequins. A strange girl obsessed with UFO could definitely come up with something like this.
Shirou said that the pulsar map could be pointing them to where Yurio is. Her writing YOU CAN’T FIND ME might have meant that she desperately wanted to be found. Clearly, this was the time for Saburou to step in. Saburou replied that he wasn’t the one who had managed to find all those clues, but Shirou retorted that it had been Saburou who had already found Yurio once, and Shirou wouldn’t be able to figure the situation out without that.
So Saburou started to think about where Yurio could be. Maybe she and her boyfriend Hashimoto had planned to kill themselves so that their naked bodies would symbolize the man and the woman from the Pioneer plaque. If so, then maybe the additional fifteenth line of the pulsar map – the galactic plane – would point to them, just like it seemed to point to the two humans in the drawing.
Saburou put on his warmest clothes (even March is quite cold in Nishi Akatsuki) and walked deep into the dark mountains, moving along the ‘galactic plane’ towards the Hand Pond, called so after its characteristic hand-like shape. The lake seemed like an appropriate place for a meeting between two teens.
The mountain forest at night was cold and frightening, mostly because of the possibility of walking into a bear. But also because of an urban legend claiming that a family of cannibals known as Chiuhi lived in secret underground tunnels stretching all throughout the mountains, and that they’d be more than ready to pull a lonely wanderer like him into a hole and eat him.
Although what really scared Saburou was the possibility of Jirou somehow being there, that horrifying man ready to enact revenge on the family starting from his younger brother.
Finally Saburou caught the distant glimpse of the pond glinting with moonlight. Finally a spot of light in the oppresive darkness. Was Yurio still alive? Dead? If she had already died, then maybe exhausted Saburou could just lie next to her instead of Hashimoto and die too so her efforts wouldn’t be in vain, or something.
Upon arriving at the moonlit lake Saburou turned off his flashlight and became one with the darkness.
It wasn’t a bad feeling. Maybe once you’re caught by the very thing you’re afraid of, there’s no further point in fearing it.
In the quiet darkness, Saburou heard music coming from within him. Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3. He whistled to the tune and in response heard a small sound somewhere in the darkness. Was that Yurio? A bear? The Chiuhi? Jirou? A UFO full of aliens? He continued to whistle until someone asked, “Who’s there?” A girl’s voice with no discernible emotion.
Saburou thought that maybe it’d be better if aliens really showed up right now, responding to “the Pioneer plaque” or maybe “the Nazca monkey”. People had killed or were planning to die just to make these images. That’s why the aliens really should notice them and show up.
If Saburou was writing a novel about all this, he’d certainly make that happen.
A story passed from an enthusiathic creator to the recipient in the sky...
Even if it’d be a lie, that’d be okay. After all, it was the known truth of stories that a person’s great effort would without fail be noticed by someone else.

Brighter - Chapter 16
hey so who remembers brighter??
its my angsty victuuri fic that i started aaaages ago and i know its been 84 years since i updated it but here we are again! full fic is on ao3 here ♡
basically im just posting a 1k snippet of the new chapter here just to see what the vibe is and if people actually remember what the heck this story is even about lmao anyway enjoy and if you could leave a bit of feedback that would really help me a lot!! ♡
(Read the previous chapter here)
After the events of last week and the breakthrough with Victor, Yuuri is finally starting to feel positive again. Whilst Victor and he still aren’t back to the way things were at the start of their relationship, they are growing more and more comfortable with each other every day and the dense cloud of tension that has been hovering over them for so long is finally beginning to dissipate. Sure, there hasn’t exactly been any more deep conversations or emotional revelations since Victor’s admittance to feeling old, but Yuuri knows that they’re at least heading in the right direction now.
Unfortunately, Victor’s improved mood and perkiness has come with a price. Yuuri is glad that a weight has been lifted off his fiance’s shoulders now that he’s accepted that this is his final season, but Victor’s whole ‘going out with a bang’ thing is giving Yuuri more anxiety than a mother hen fretting over her chicks.
It’s early morning at the rink on Wednesday and everyone is raring to go, Victor already out on the ice as he warms up and laughs delightedly at something Mila says.
“Fuck!” Yurio snaps from somewhere beside Yuuri, clumsily dashing over to the rink barrier in his skates whilst tying up his hair at the same time. “If Victor lands a quad axel before I even nail my Lutz, I’ll hack off his hair with his own dumb skate!”
Yuuri sighs as he watches Yurio join Victor on the ice, the two of them far too competitive against each other for their own good.
Yes, Victor’s big finale for his career is to be the first person in history to land a quad axel during a competition. Yuuri had immediately tried to discourage him, lecturing him of the strain that such a huge jump could put on his body, but Victor had simply tapped Yuuri’s nose and reminded him that ‘no one ever created a world record by playing it safe, Yuuri!’
Yuuri doesn’t begin his practice just yet, going to stand beside Yakov as they both watch Victor gearing up for his first attempt of the day.
“I still can’t believe you’re letting him do this,” Yuuri sighs quietly to Yakov.
Yakov is holding a video camera, filming all of Victor’s attempts to show the world if Victor does manage to land the jump. He mutters, “Katsuki, if I was ever in control of anything Vitya did, I’ve have far lower blood pressure and a better head of hair.”
Yuuri raises an eyebrow. “Fair point.”
They both stand quietly as they watch Victor launch himself into the jump, both wincing when Victor falls and lands right on his hip. Victor screws up his face but seems to brush the fall off quite quickly, pulling himself up and shooting a brilliant smile at the two of them.
“Close, right?” Victor calls, skating in elegant loops. “How many was that?”
“Still four,” Yakov replies gruffly.
Yuuri chews his lip. The quad axel is notoriously difficult because unlike the other quad jumps, it requires four and a half rotations to complete it. Many skating enthusiasts say the jump is impossible, but then again, twenty years ago nobody thought any quad jump was possible.
Yuuri can’t deny that he’s curious to find out whether everyone is right about the quad axel or not. He only wishes it wasn’t his own fiance throwing himself around on the ice and risking his well-being trying to prove it.
“Four’s good!” Victor smiles, extra perky today. He beams at Yuuri. “It’s good, right, Yuuri?”
“Four’s better when you don’t land on your ass,” Yakov retorts. “A few more, then break.”
Despite Yakov supporting Victor in his attempts, he’s being much stricter about Victor not overworking himself. Whilst the prospect of setting a new world record is exciting, it’s not worth Victor hurting himself and putting himself out of the Grand Prix altogether. Yakov is still trying to decide if the jump is even going to be a doable part of Victor’s program at all, not wanting to damage Victor’s score if he fails to land it during the Final.
To take his mind off Victor’s safety, Yuuri steps out onto the ice and begins his own warm up. The first half of the morning passes by rather pleasantly, the main sounds on the ice being Yurio and Victor squabbling and teasing each other like a pair of siblings. Victor still hasn’t landed his axel but he hasn’t spectacularly injured himself either, which is a win in Yuuri’s eyes.
Victor skates over to Yuuri whilst Yuuri is at the barrier having a water break, breathing heavily but looking radiant as he wipes his forehead. “Your layback spin is beautiful today, Yuuri.”
Yuuri’s cheeks tinge pink under the compliment, lips tilting up at the corners. “Thank you. You look good as well, I’m glad to see you still in one piece.”
Victor laughs, and Yuuri’s stomach does a little flip. Victor goes on, “So I’ve checked us in online for our flights to Osaka on Saturday. We’ll arrive at eleven thirty in the morning, should give us plenty of time to get settled before NHK.”
Yuuri swallows quietly, already well aware of his second qualifier which is rapidly approaching. He chews the mouthpiece of his water bottle, mumbling, “‘Kay.”
Victor gives him a soft smile, touching Yuuri’s arm. “You have such beautiful programs to share with everyone, it’s exciting. And Phichit and your family will be there this time to cheer you on too.”
“Yeah,” Yuuri nods, relieved by the thought. Phichit is also competing in the NHK Trophy this weekend, and Mari and Minako are travelling in to support Yuuri from the stands. Despite his anxieties over medalling, he’s looking forward to seeing everyone again. “I just… need to stay focused.”
Victor smiles in response, looking like he’s thinking for a moment before taking a small breath and murmuring, “Love, if you do start feeling nervous, at any point this week, then I’m here. I’m here, and I’m listening.”
Yuuri looks up into Victor’s earnest eyes, heart stuttering at the gentle words. He finds himself edging closer to Victor, resting a hand on Victor’s chest and privately marvelling at the feeling of the steady, reassuring breathing beneath his palm.
“I know you are. Thank you,” Yuuri whispers. He leans in a little more, Victor meeting him halfway as they share a tender kiss. Yuuri releases a small, shuddering breath as he pulls away, slowly opening his eyes again. “And maybe… we could share a room this weekend?”
Victor eyes widen slightly, pupils dilating as he nods. “I’d like that.”
Yuuri smiles, blush returning as he looks down at the ice. “Great.”

This is just my opinion but I'm pretty sure that "Ice Adolescence" is gonna be narrated by Victor. Maybe we'll get to see scenes where he's with Yuuri and him comparing his life now that's so full of love to the life he had before (I just got lonely vibes from the photo even if he was just showing his back). But hey who knows anything can happen!!! And I've seen people saying they want to see the other characters too and I'm so down for that like uggghhh baby Yurio and little Yuuri? And OMG JUNIOR CHRIS WHO'S GONNA BE SO INNOCENT AND FLUFFY AND FANBOYING OVR VICTOR? YES PUHLEASEEEEE

Just finished Yuri!!! On Ice and...
I swear to god...
I'm in fucking love.
I knew jack squat about ice skating and had little interest before watching the show.
The last time actually did ice skating was when I was still in a bad school, I had embarrassed myself in front of my ex friends and was even humiliated by another girl who was there who didn't like me that much.
I was already terrible at ice skating before, barely unable to leave the railings. I gave up in shame and haven't skated since out of embarrassment.
I still don't think I'll ever skate, but; thanks to Yuri On Ice, I've developed a new sense of respect and fascination with it. I'm an artist, I want to be an animator some day, and I hope to reach the beauty, hilarity and amazement of this show in my own creations.
My overall thoughts:
- I don't think I've ever seen a chubby character in anime until I saw Yuri Katsuki! It was so great. And he lost weight and trimmed down because of his training, which makes sense.
- However, Yuri is a precious cinnamon roll whether chubby or strongly built, with or without his glasses, he's the best.
- Victor... good god Victor. I get some serious Tamaki vibes from him, and he just a delight to watch. His comedic moments have always been my favourite and I'll never get over how much this man cares for Yuri.
- Victor and Yuri are just the best. You can tell that they TRULY care for one another, and will go above and beyond for the other no matter what. With all they've been through, it's amazing how strong their bond is.
- Yurio...
...no seriously... YURIO. Aka Russian Yuri (sorry); I WILL LOVE WITH MY LIFE. He truly has evolved and I've been so interested in him as a character. He's such a great skater and is so damn adorable, especially when he's mad. XD Also, his Agape performances are FIRE!!!
(Isn't it obvious I have a favourite in the show?💕)
- Seeing so many other skaters with their own ideas and nationalities was incredible, my favorite probably being Phichit. I've hardly seen people of my skin colour in anime, and I might be Hindu and Phichit might be Thai, but it's VERY close and I can really appreciate that. 😊
______
Overall, this anime is also one or my favourites now~

Fandom ask meme
Got tagged by my good buddy ol’ pal of mine @alia-andreth
Pick three fandoms and answer the questions:
Yuri on Ice, My Hero Academia and Voltron. Bet no one saw that coming.
The first character you loved:
YOI: Yuuri K. When he started crying bc he lost and thought he was a disappointment, I knew I would love him. So relatable and sad, I just wanted to ug and cry with him right there in the men’s bathroom.
MHA: I actually did not like MHA the first time I watched it (hard 2 believe since it has taken over my life now), but I remember the first time I watched it I thought All Might was funny. He’s my absolute favorite character by far now, so I’ll go with him.
Voltron: Either Pidge or Hunk, can’t quite remember. I thought their antics in the first episode were really cute.
The character you never expected to love so much:
YOI: Yurio. Thought he was an insufferable prick, then I realized he’s just an edgy dork.
MHA: Kirishima, I thought he was plain, now he’s my best boy and I can’t believe I ever doubted the guy. Mina as well bc I just thought she was a weird pink creature thing but now I realize what an energetic, fun-loving talented gal she is. If only studying was one of her strong suites!
Voltron: Lance, you guys have no idea how hard I SIGHED every time he spoke in the first couple episodes, now I stan for him. Send help.
The character you relate to the most:
YOI: Yuuko, all her reactions and faces are mine. She’s basically my insert into the show.
MHA: Deku. We’re both the same height, have (naturally) crazy curly hair, mumble incessantly, would die for All Might and have waaayyy too much merch of the same damn shit, could talk for hours about our interests, and keep weirdly detailed notes about things no one cares about (though I am nowhere near as organized as he is). Now I realize why i found him annoying the first time he was introduced :,(
Voltron: Lance, bc we both can’t hold back some dorky or corny shit that comes to mind. And Pidge bc she’s surrounded by fighting boys (I only have male siblings, can relate).
The character I’d slap:
YOI: Georgi needs to get a grip on reality. Luckily he’s shown to be dating someone new at the end of the series. Proud of the guy, even though he’s a hetero disaster
MHA: Bakugou (Iove him but he need a slap), Endeavor (I’m scared he’d hurt me though). I’d punt the grapist into the sun. Seriously he is so out of pace in my hero. I understand how he got into the school, I’m not saying he doesn’t belong in UA, he just seems so out of place in the universe itself. Like the show isn’t really super pervy and it’s a fun show and interesting shonen, yet this weird, and frankly, dated stereotypical gross character pops up and acts like a predator. Not funny. I only ever laughed at two or so things he had ever said, he’s not even a funny perv.
Voltron: Ok, I know I have been reblogging Lotura pics, they are cute but I also don’t 100% trust Lotor. I still feel like every one should be keeping a closer eye on him. While I genuinely believe he doesn’t mean harm, I also think they began to trust him a wee bit soon and that he does not totally have a peaceful mindset. So I wanna maybe lightly bonk Allura’s and maybe some of the other’s heads for not being a bit more suspicious.
Three OTPs:
YOI: In the words of the Galra, “Viktuuri or Death!”
MHA: Tododeku, and also Bakushima. MHA is such a perfect show for shipping. I have had a total of 8-9 OTPS all my life (while I have tons of ships I have certain standards for a ship to be OTP status in my mind), and 2 are from My Hero.
Voltron: K L A N C E
Three nonromantic relationships:
YOI: Podium family dynamic, and Victor and Chris’ friendship, with that dash of one-sided competition vibe.
MHA: I can’t pick. I love everyone’s relationships. Deku and All Might and their mentor/student dynamic. Aizawa the hobo and his 20 children. Bakusquad, Dekusquad. Mirio and Tamaki, the bestest buds ever. Mina and Ochako’s friendship as well (they are always together in official art and seems to be very close friends, I’m 👌close to shipping them but I do like tsuchako).
Voltron: Space Dad and his adopted chidren, the original three (Lance, Hunk and Pidge), but also Hunk and Pidge as the team geniuses and repairman/repairwoman. And Allura and her wacky “uncle” Coran, who now is  wacky uncle to all.

@castiels-playdoll replied to your post “I’m going to end up planning a project runway au bloody hell but...”
*chanting* do it! do it! do it! do it!
i mean...ye there’s a lot that could work quite well.
the whole yuuri and viktor relationship is something that everyone comments on because they’re so obvious. viktor was assigned to yuuri first and pretty quickly becomes attracted to him (but then again that’s all of the models and designers because his intense expression when he’s looking at the clothes is very attractive). Viktor gets hit with the full brunt of it because he’s looking at him that way and viktor spends the entire fitting and hair/makeup with weak knees. The next challenge he actually gets switched over to yurio instead (yurio’s first model was JJ and he cannot stand him because he makes loud comments about how the clothes could be better). JJ’s a lot quieter with yuuri because....well like everyone else he’s attracted to him. Viktor pouts and wanders over to yuuri (he works right next to yurio so it’s easy enough) a lot to try to flirt but usually gets his words caught in his throat whenever he happens to see yuuri’s pretty eyes so.....all the time. The show manages to catch viktor make this really weird laugh when yuuri cracks a sarcastic (but well-meaning) comment about yurio and the interview placed right after it is yurio with wide eyes spitting about how ‘katsudon’ (no one knows how the nickname came about) keeps on distracting viktor and viktor’s an idiot. the audience would assume that yurio hates yuuri with every fibre of his small being but the cameras have caught them both in yuuri’s bed watching studio ghibli movies and cat videos with yurio properly cuddled up to yuuri so they know it’s not true. they rearrange the models again after that because viktor complained about yuuri not being his designer (’yuuri understands my skin tone! we have the same vision!’ and other bullshit excuses are used) and yurio complained about viktor being his model and i quote ‘i don’t wish that dumbass on anyone but katsudon’. yurio is given otabek and they click really well, JJ goes to someone else....minami maybe?? and viktor is back with yuuri where he (wants to) belongs. the cameras happened to catch yuuri being told that viktor had been reassigned to him and yuuri does the. most. adorable. blush and the audience and everyone else thinks ‘oH maybe it’s not one-sided’ because they have caught viktor gazing at yuuri and pouting whenever he’s not paying attention to him and everyone’s heard the giggling and attempts at flirting. (at the reunion episode there’s a compilation of all the contestants and tim gunn saying ‘wow does viktor have a crush on yuuri’ and variations). yuuri definitely flirts too and stares a little too much when viktor is undressed but it’s a lot more subtle because he has more experience with hiding it. This is viktor’s first real crush since he was like 16 so he has no clue how to hide it (the massive virgin honestly).
other ways that viktor has shown his crush: when yuuri explains his designs to the judges (he’s in the top three every time and wins the contests a record number of times) viktor gazes at him with obvious adoration and this adorable little smile and a bit of a blush,
he brings yuuri green tea from an expensive coffee shop every time he goes for his fittings and sighs happily when yuuri smiles at him in thanks,
one time yuuri was on his knees fixing viktor’s hem and viktor blurted out ‘i like you on your knees’ and when yuuri looked up in shock and then laughed his knees visibly buckled. the cameraman is very pleased that he managed to catch that and yuuri’s subsequent smacking of viktor’s thigh as a pseudo-punishment,
they both linger into greeting and goodbye hugs way longer than necessary and properly lean into each other. the camera has caught viktor smelling yuuri’s hair more than once,
viktor picks him up and spins him around a lot (cuts to interview with the other contestants shaking their heads and bitterly exclaiming ‘they’re so f*****g cute’) and when yuuri does the same to viktor after a particularly stressful challenge (which he won) viktor kisses him because he’s so delighted and can’t hide it,
they kiss a few times on camera. yuuri can’t look away from viktor after,
viktor once said to yuuri ‘you make me feel beautiful’ during a later challenge and yuuri immediately replied with ‘you’re always beautiful’. viktor cries a little and kisses him and almost proposes right then and there but figures they need to have a few important steps in their relationship away from the cameras. yuuri ends up subtly hinting at getting married the next day at viktor’s apartment and viktor takes it as an official proposal,
yuuri called him pretty on the first week and he walked into a table.
and other ways obviously but those are what the audience noticed.
they go on a couple of dates during the filming (usually just back to viktor’s apartment so yuuri can have snuggles with makka whilst viktor makes him dinner because yuuri’s too exhausted to do much else). they fall in love quickly and yuuri slowly becomes more demonstrative with his affections. they marry a few months after the reunion episode (and yuuri announces their engagement at the reunion episode).
yuuri goes back to detroit to prepare for fashion week and they cope exactly 5 days before viktor is bundling makka into a plane and shows up on yuuri’s doorstep. yuuri dives right into his arms, phichit laughs at them through the window then smacks yuuri’s ass as he’s leaving to give them privacy. he stays at a friends house for a week as viktor distracts yuuri from his designing. yuuri’s the happiest he’s ever been. tim finds it pretty hilarious that it’s viktor that opens the door to him. he wasn’t expecting it but......well who’s even trying. of course viktor would have hopped straight onto a plane because he misses the love of his life.
yuuri wins the competition and viktor stays on as his official model. it was close between yurio and yuuri (yurio’s a real prodigy, and the youngest designer to make it to the finals, but ultimately is a little too green for something so big). basically, he puts just a few too many animal prints, whilst yuuri’s collection is elegant and represents different forms of love. he’s very tempted to put viktor in the outfit that represents erotic love (because he wants to ogle him) but ends up getting him into the ‘everlasting love’ outfit, which is a beautiful tuxedo that viktor wears at their wedding. the erotic love outfit he wears on their wedding night
this is the most popular season project runway has ever had, because people all over the world want to know what happens to this adorable and ridiculous couple who are obviously so in love. yuuri then becomes one of the most well-respected and famous designers (same cultural importance as coco chanel or paul poiret). haute couture is his speciality, but he does have an affordable street fashion line which is also very popular world-wide. viktor also becomes one of the most sought-after models in the US, and when he retires he becomes very involved in charities that spread awareness and support people suffering from eating disorders. yurio also becomes very popular as a designer, but he does have a completely different vibe to yuuri. if you want to be elegant and beautiful, you go to yuuri. if you want to be edgy and striking, you go to yurio. it works well for them.
