Keep thinking of Rosie allowing everyone else to experience the trauma of war around him in any way they need to. Whether it be after listening to his crew member choke through the Munster story, reaching a hand out to comfort him, making sure the replacements are all settled and feel comfortable with him - establishing that he's someone who can be trusted with any issues - and listening to Crosby tell him he's scared he's becoming a monster and reassuring him, and yet refuses to give himself the same grace.
Thinking about how he doesn't tell Crosby about what he saw after he was shot down, what he witnessed in that camp. He's never really the one telling any stories in the series. He listens and watches, lets others say whatever they need to, all the while keeping his cards close to his chest.
Thinking about Rosie smiling while watching his crew and the other airmen enjoying themselves at the flak house, and yet not allowing himself the same enjoyment. Thinking about how the doctor at the flak house got Rosie to look after himself only when he framed it that looking after himself is looking after his crew.
Thinking about Rosie re-upping, choking slightly on his words as he explains he can't bare the thought of sending some rookie in his place to only get himself and his crew killed.
He won't give himself the grace or patience he deserves, but by god he'll take care of everyone around him.

whenever ryou is described as "polite", I always thought, in terms of jp, that that meant he uses polite speech (aka keigo) regardless of whom hes talking to. iirc the english version of the manga, which I read many years ago, didnt (or cant) really reflect this nuance accurately, so I took that information at face value for the longest time.
now that Im rereading the series in jp (currently on volume 6 of the bunkobons, which means ryous only been around for 3 volumes), Ive discovered that... ryous speech is pretty casual. almost on par with yugi's, actually. the most glaring difference between them is yugi infrequently adds the masculine assertive particle/indicator ぜ at the end of his sentences
and sometimes fuses his vowels (ie. どう → どー).
Im still early into the series tho (duelist kingdom) and Im not sure if yugi stops doing so later on (aka battle city onwards). btw in the DM anime, these mannerisms were only done by atem (which is also markedly different in the manga). I also dont know if ryous speech pattern changes as the series goes on but we'll see! I doubt it tho.
one thing I found quite funny tho is this scene!
JOUNOUCHI: Whoa!! You're still carrying that dangerous thing around!!
RYOU: It's fine! As long as I don't wear it, it's harmless!
ryou uses なけりゃ which is the colloquial/informal form of なければ (meaning "not"). and then he tacks on だもん at the end, which is cutesy/childish (like, "you know!", "come on!", or "listen now!") and expresses dissatisfaction.
so hes being quite petulant/indignant here 🤭 and, well, it says quite a bit about how attached he is to the ring.
if we take ryous words literally, what hes saying is,
"It's fine! If I don't wear it, it's a plain thing, you know!"
but anyway, what Ive learned through my reread is ryou is decent at best, very mild-mannered, and doesnt quite fit the idea of "polite" Ive been led to believe. I mean, he occasionally has a sharp tongue but its not like hes throwing out DA★ZE in his sentences like every other character around him who uses rough language lmao
oh! you know who uses very polite speech tho?
this lil guy!

wait, so if david's new puppet sibling only sticks around for like 2 minutes and doesn't pop up anywhere else in the series, does that mean David legit had to find somewhere to store his brand-new puppet sister who was made with magic that he has no idea how to handle?
I think that resetting the episode would make her disappear because she was created via magic rather than being a real puppet. Canonically speaking I think he would have a bit of a moral panic over whether or not its OK to vanish his new puppet half-sister, before deciding he never wanted a sibling anyway lol.
That being said its waaay more funny if he pussies out and 'rescues' her, only to realize he has no idea what he's doing

**slips and slides into the room with socks on and breaks the wooden table as i fall down on the floor in a haste** so anyways i actually just scared myself because i thought of exactly how deep Malorn's and Malistaire's parallels went. like in post-updated tutorial malistaire was said to have been kind and caring towards his students right. just like malorn right. just like malorn, right? isn't that just like malorn? hey everyone doesn't that sound just like malorn? kind and cares for his students? 'kind' and 'caring' are certainly two adjectives that describe malorn arent they huh? (is slowly sinking in quicksand as i desperately reach out to you as i say this) so if we are to say that malorn and malistaire are two sides of the same coin then what is truly stopping malorn from having one traumatic event from shaping the rest of his life into a descent of madness, grief, and isolation? Guys tell me what the difference is between this reality and an Evil Malorn AU guys? guys hello? hello guys? **(the quicksand has actually transported me to the Backrooms now, no one can hear me call out in distress)**

Thank you for all the kind comments for me and my old kitty. It helps so much to know I'm not by myself with this.
I spent most of yesterday crying on and off tbh. Today's a little better. Although every time I try to talk about it I start crying again, so idk.
I ordered Cato a bulk package of socks. He loves to bring them to me to make me feel better (he brought me a *lot* of socks yesterday) or to hear that he is a good kitty who hunts socks really well, so I'm going to make him a little box and fill it with socks. He can bring them to me every day, and every night when I go up to bed I'll gather all the socks and put them back in the box so they're ready for him to select again. I think doing things like that, focusing on things I can do to make him happy, helps a bit. And in between, I'll just... go one day at a time I guess.
